Mexican Asylum Applicants: Early Sign of a Failed State?

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Mexican law enforcement officials are walking into U.S. ports of entry in increasing numbers to seek political asylum, and the flow may soon become a flood as Mexico's battle with the drug cartels intensifies. Our first instinct is to welcome them, but there is more at stake than humanitarian sentiments.

The problem is that if our immigration laws are stretched to grant asylum to law enforcement personnel on the grounds that their own government cannot protect them, any Mexican threatened by these violent criminal gangs can claim the same right of asylum.

U.S. immigration law does not easily accommodate these law enforcement cases because they are fleeing threats from organized crime --- the Mexican drug cartels --- not political persecution by their government. If our laws are stretched to accept thousands of refugees from drug cartel violence, it will only exacerbate Mexico's problems.

We can sympathize with the Mexican police chief or prosecutor who lands on a cartel hit list because he will not play ball with them. The Mexican federal government seemingly cannot protect him and his family, so he flees to El Paso or Nogales and seeks asylum. The number of such asylum applications more than doubled in the first six months of 2008 compared to the same period in 2007, but very few have been approved. What will happen if we do not accept these asylum applications as a humanitarian gesture? What will happen if we do?

The rising number of asylum seekers from Mexican law enforcement and the professional classes is a new phenomenon, not merely another facet of our open borders fiasco. These people are not swimming the Rio Grande or sneaking across the Sonora desert. They are walking into our border ports of entry from Texas to California and asking for protection. We must respect them for following our laws and doing it the right way. But we must also ask some hard questions before throwing open our gates. Humanitarian concerns must be balanced against other considerations --- because the fate of Mexico hangs in that balance.

What happens to Mexico if all the good cops flee to the U.S. or Europe and the only ones left are working hand-in-glove with the criminals? What are the consequences if all the honest judges and prosecutors flee and only dishonest ones are left in charge of the courts? What happens if honest businessmen find it easy to flee to San Diego, Houston or Phoenix and only those who will do the cartels' money laundering are running the nation's trucking companies, farms, and banks?

The unpleasant truth is that this new refugee problem is the sign of a deep crisis not in the Mexican economy but in the Mexican political system itself. Mexico exhibits mounting signs of a "failed state," a political system that cannot satisfy the most basic conditions of civic order such as safety in one’s streets, home, school and workplace. Failing states begin to hemorrhage people and their assets. The middle class begins to flee --- doctors, lawyers, accountants, business owners, teachers, and of course, law enforcement officials, who are the first targets of criminal organizations.

These new "civic disorder refugees" are not like the millions of unemployed or underemployed who leave Mexico to a find a job and a better life. These middle class citizens have jobs --- often good jobs by Mexican standards --- but they do not have security for themselves or their families. They would much prefer to stay in Mexico but they cannot do so safely, so they flee.

If police chiefs and judges cannot be protected from the cartels, then how can ordinary citizens feel safe? If we open the gates to everyone who has a "credible fear" of the cartels, the Border Patrol will no longer have to worry only about people jumping the fence. Thousands will be waiting in line at one of over 300 ports of entry.

This new "emigration from fear" poses an urgent challenge for Mexico. If Mexico wants to win its battle against the drug cartels, it must begin by reforming its police and criminal justice systems so that honest cops, judges and mayors --and journalists-- can do their jobs without undue fear of retaliation. To his credit, President Calderon has begun to tackle this problem.

Military operations against the cartel strongholds are probably necessary, but they can never be a substitute for a functioning criminal justice system. Mexican citizens must be able to trust the local police, and local police must be able to trust their government to protect them from gangster-terrorists.

The United States must not become an automatic escape valve for honest officials threatened by cartel violence. If that happens, Mexico will lose its most valued civil servants and become increasingly a militarized (and polarized) society.

Mexico is not yet a failed state, but if humanitarian sentiment and special interest pleadings in the U.S. block sound immigration policy --- as happens all too often in American law and politics --- we will hasten that tragic development.

The man who SHOULD be president ...
... gets this right, and is way out ahead on an issue, as usual.

But it seems to me there's another point here that Tancredo likely hasn't thought about: Mexico's basic narco-state character is a response to how lucrative the drug trade's been. And that trade is with the U.S.. And the money is from recreational-drug-using U.S. citizens.

If the drugs were legal, they'd be cheap, so the money wouldn't be there. Drugs would then become a private tragedy for some people, like alcohol is now. But they wouldn't be a society-wrecking scourge or, as in the present case, a TWO-society-wrecking scourge.

I'm by no means a down-the-line libertarian, but I think the libertarian line on this one is right. In summary, it rarely works to protect people from themselves; they have to make the mistakes (like using drugs) for themselves, or learn by directly witnessing the bad examples provided by others.

Very good point
Very good point Congressman.
Hey, let's present this dilemna to Presidential hopeful Barack Hussein Obama. I'm certain that he has an answer for this problem too (sarcasm intended)!
Why should the average American worry about such a scenario, when it appears that Senator Obama has answers to everything?!
Let us all hope and pray that whoever the next President is, that they will have the wisdom to handle this and numerous other critical issues that face this Country.
Lord knows that I or anyone that I know would not want to be the next President only because we can already see what is coming our way from all directions.
I can honestly say that it is sad that you did not success in your Presidential bid. If only you or someone of your caliber had succeeded, I would be much more enthusiastic about the upcoming election. However, as it currently stands, I have no other option but to pray to the Almighty God to protect us and guide us even though the Liberals have taken it upon themselves to remove God from every aspect of our lives.

Could somebody explain..
Why is it that a stand-up guy like Tancredo couldn't even get to 1st base in the primaries, and a left-leaning dufus like Juan Pablo McRINO
makes it to the big show... Is it because the Tancredo campaign was under funded ? Is it because the media refused to give the man any air time ? I just don't get it..

Its the media and the politicans.
They decided long ago that Tancredo was in the "second tier" and therefore not "electable".

McCain was the most "electable" of their "electable" candidates.

Now lets just see how that works out for them. So far it doesn't look good at all.

In my blog you can see my reasons why McCain will probably lose big and is doing much worse than the media and the talk hosts are putting on.

Tom Tancredo would probably not be having that problem right now. Unlike McCain who is currently losing in Tancredo's state.

So the lesson is we should never listen to media and elite politicans again. We should focus a lot more on congress and good people like Tom Tancredo.

US flow of capital sign of sam thing?
is it possiblw that just a word change here and there would give a very differnt slant to this column. something alonmg the lines os "Massive flow of capitoal from the United States, bothe by government and by private sources . oretells sign of a faile state?

Tanc's a real American.....
Congressman Tancredo is one of the very few politicians who exhibit what I call "common sense nationalism".

Almost all of our pols today are globalists/internationalists/liberals. They care more about others around the world than the American people who put them in office and pay their salaries.

Mexico is a chronically corrupt state that has been using mass immigration as a way to generate revenue instead of truly reforming their pathetic economy.

I only disagree with one statement
Mexico is in fact a failed state. At least 1/3 of it's cicitizens are in the U.S. and members of it's own government are seeking asylem in the U.S. If that is not a failed state I don't know what is.

And LaRaza wants to take over the U.S. and make it pasrt of Mexico. hahahahha

We're fighting
both major party candidates at http://www.patriotsrevolt.com We could have a Tancredo if America would wake up and take back our nation......right now the "political criminal rape of America" goes on and one and on.......

Whose Country Is It?

We the People of the United States of America have the right to have our borders and our laws respected and enforced.

Citizens of other countries illegally in our country have no right to demand anything from our government. They most certainly have the right to petition the governments of their home countries for change if they are unhappy with their home country. If they want to be Americans, we have a path to citizenship, more generous than any other nation, and it starts in their home country.

We need to insist on the equal protection, application and enforcement of the law or devolve into anarchy. Our Republic only functions if everyone follows the same rules. We should not change the laws to accomodate those breaking them.

If America annouces to the world "We can't stop you, so come on in" with another amnesty, the deluge will be overwhelming. If 3,000 a day didn't get your attention, then wait until it's 10,000 a day. We cannot sustain this influx and survive as a nation. We must speak up and speak to each other about this and not let false claims of racism or bigotry be used to intimidate us into silent assent. America is not Congress' to give away. America belongs to We the People. Speak to your neighbors, speak to your coworkers, but please speak up to your Congressmen and Senators. It's O.K. for us to enforce our laws, no really, it is.

Someone please tell Sen. McCain.

GOP=Whig

The Stupid Party

The RNC wants an amnesty candidate.

Don't vote for one.

Another amnesty will result in Democrat majorities for decades, or until they are supplanted by the La Raza Party, why doesn't the RNC know that? How stupid do you have to be to import voters for the opposition at the same time you alienate your own voters? Nominating any of the amnesty supporters is a losing proposition, we will not support them. If the GOP intends to surrender our sovereignty and abandon the rule of law, they will find in November 2008, that they still have their big money/cheap labor donors, but they do not have voters. GOP-RIP

Not so early sign
As Nessus stated, "Mexico is a chronically corrupt state that has been using mass immigration as a way to generate revenue instead of truly reforming their pathetic economy"--true long before Reagan's 1986 scamnesty and is still true.

IMO, you can choose from the following as to when Mexico became failed-state:
(1) around "Mexican Revolution" (1910)
(2) after death of Benito Juarez (1872/07/18)
(3) after Mexican War (1848)
(4) at recognition of its independence from Spain (1821/09/27)

Tijuanification project under way!
Excellent article. I'm glad someone is paying attention.

In my small, coastal California town -- a sanctuary city -- large sections of town are being invaded by Hispanic gangs. Go to the emergency room and you will find families of 5 or 6 Hispanics waiting for free treatment and a translator. Drive around in the middle of the day and you will see husbands, wives and kids walking around together in clothing that screams "Mexico", obviously not employed. Unlicensed push cart vendors go unticketed, but tax paying citizens who dare to cut down a tree without a permit are fined.

Now we have an Hispanic union leader on the City Council who shouts "discrimination" whenever the police try to crack down on the gangs.

Several weeks ago a neighbor caught a man burglarizing her home in the middle of the day. Since he did not speak English, she asked the police if it was possible that he had a criminal record in Mexico or Latin America. The police officer said he was not allowed to try to find this out.

What we are seeing is the Tijuanification of California.

Tancredo For President
Good Article. And yes, we do not need to open any more options for any new immigrants from Mexico, legal or otherwise. We need to pull in the Reigns Here In The U.S. and enforce own own Existing Laws, before we do anything else, period concerning Immigration.

We currently have about 40 million illegals in this coutnry. I know the Official Number that Our Worthless Leaders keep telling us is 12 million, but they have been using this number for 4 or 5 years, as if that number is OK, but we have about 20k per day entering and if you multiply that by 365 days and then again by 4 or 5, you have between 40 and 50 million here now. It is time to Enforce Existing laws that make it Illegal To enter Illegally; Laws against Hiring Them once they arrive; Laws That Make It a Crime to Rent, Or Sell Property to Them; Laws that Make It Illegal To Use Forged Documents; Laws that Make It Illegal To Smuggle Drugs and Weapons in; Laws that Make It Illegal to Run Murderous Street Gangs in this country.

No, we need to take our communities, states and country back. Every Local Law Enforcement Official in this country Need To Round Them Up and Not Let Them Break OUr Laws in our Communities. They broke our laws when they came here illegally, and then continue to do so as long as they are here. If you, as an American Citizen go into somebody else's property without invite or permission, They Arrest You For Trespassing. Arrest All Of them here illegally, as a start for Trespassing, then Deport Immediately. Also, BUILD THE FENCE AND MAN IT WITH GUARDS. IT IS EASIER TO POLICE THE BORDER THAN IT IS TO POLICE THE ILLEGALS ONCE THEY DISPERSE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY.

Publicity is what's needed here.
I very much appreciate seeing this reported because I've never seen it mentioned anywhere else.
It is, or should be, shocking to us that a contiguous foreign state, supposed ally and major trade partner's country is so corrupt and unwilling to protect it's citizens that they are forced to seek asylum here.
Where is our world's outrage? And where is our press? I'm old enough to remember when every single defector from a communist country or other dictatorship was front page news in the entire Western world. The stories were replete with details of the horrors suffered by these "seekers of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness" and how contemptible those who threatened or visited the horror on them were. Also, condemnation of weak governments who failed to protect their people from evil doers.
UN & NGOs are all a twitter over the muderous pigs roaming Darfur, but I hear nothing about the muderous pigs roaming Mexico... along our border? In both cases, ineffectual or corrupt governments are responsible. Other than scale, what's the difference?
Keep up the good work spreading the news that matters.
Best regards, Mike Reed

ditto to VIRGINIA PATRIOT
This time around, we have to vote McCain, even though we hold our nose when we do it. But, compared to the alternative, Obama, he is the only choice we have. But, after this, we need to start at every level of our government and Demand Enforcement Of Our Laws. Our government rules us Taxpaying Citizens with an Ironfist on everything from Where You Can Smoke a Cigarette, then tax them at the State, Local and Federal Levels to the point that you cannot afford to buy them. They put Cameras on Street Corners to Police Us Citizens, should we go through a red light, then bill you by mail and extract a fine. They tell us that We have to Drive A Speed Limit, but do not require Illegals even to Have A Drivers License, or insurance. And, of course, they should not be allowed to get A U.S. Drivers License since they are Illegal to begin With. Congress has hearings on Steroids in Baseball. That is no business of Congress. We need to Elect A Representative Government That Represents THe Rights, Protection, and Freedoms Of US citizens, not special interests and especially not Illegals, and we need to End THe Welfare State that Is So Attractive To Lazy People whether they Be Homegown Lazy Citizens or The Illegal One's who are at The Feed Troughs of Our Treasury so generously Offered By State And Federal Socialist Organizations, such as the Local Food Stamp Office, WIC and all the rest of these giveaway programs that Offer More For Doing Nothing, than working for it. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH. IT COST SOMEBODY, AND THAT SOMEBODY IS YOU AND ME, MR. AND MS. U.S. CITIZEN WHO WORKS AND PAYS TAXES. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

WE CAN'T CHANGE MEXICO W/OUT TAKING OVER
This is not a time for quiet discussion and moderation, this is a time that calls for action.

I was in Mexico is 1964 and at that time was told NEVER go to the police. There is no way Mexican citizens will ever trust their police. So now what? Either we take them over or let them deal with their problem...but CLOSE OUR BORDERS!

MSM SELECTED OUR CANDIDATES
Media Monopoly is the problem with anybody who the MSM and Wallstreet do not want to get elected. In the past 30 years or so, our news and entertainment outlets, have evolved into a Media Monopoly, and When You have a Monopoly, you can control how it is used and what will be aired.

The Media Monopoly and Wallstreet are not going to report anything of importance if it Goes Astray from their Agenda, which is Globalization and a One World Government, and For Wallstreeters, a One-World Money Machine.

So, If I am a Wallstreeter, and want to Control Information That Folks Receive, Buy Up The Media and then Control it.

The MSM selected Obama and McCain for us, by either non-reporting anybody who Had A Different Message than the Message the MSM and Wallstreet wanted us to get, or By Demonizing Legitimate Candidates, by bringing Up Their Divorce Problems or Their Religion, such as Being a Mormon, and at the same time, Texas Raids a Mormon Compound. Could this have been Political???Was the 24-7 Reporting of Mormon Child Abuse Political????Tancredo has been for border security for years, and the MSM never even mentions his name.

As for Obama, who is their Golden Boy now, he does not need to spend a time of the hundreds of millions that Special Interests are putting up for him, Because The MSM is his Official Cheerleader. He could not even Buy all the Air Time that the MSM give him for Free. Of course, it is not really free, They, the MSM and Wallstreet Know that he Will Pay Them Back With His Influence and Agenda should He Get Elected. WE Have The Best Political System Money can Buy, with the Emphasis being on Money. But, if the MSM and The Powers THat be On Wallstreet Do Not Want You In Due To YOUR Message or Agenda, You cannot even Buy Enough Air Time to Offset What they Can Do To Destroy Your Chances, which is what happened this time, Once Again.

CC's posts (20,21) confirm
that I was correct on Mexico's being a failed state for at least the extent of my life (I will be 45 in November), if not longer.

Take Heart
Earnest!

"However, as it currently stands, I have no other option but to pray to the Almighty God to protect us and guide us even though the Liberals have taken it upon themselves to remove God from every aspect of our lives."

What we are witnessing in this country is a paltry, puny attempt by liberal elites to do the IMPOSSIBLE! Liberals or RINOS or any other form of Dictator, anywhere in the world, cannot crush the human thirst for freedom and prosperity. These "rights" are inalienable, meaning they do NOT derive from MEN, but from a Higher Authority. And that Higher Authority will NOT have His creation in chains or bondage, or His Word and Laws so easily dismissed by such pathetic creatures. His Word will stand and will come to pass. So take heart fellow patriot, not all is lost.

As a matter of fact, these are exciting times. We are witnessing the decline and possible collapse of a world's superpower firsthand, and we have front row seats free of charge. We are seeing the emerging of a collective economic system that will utterly fail and collapse because it does not have a solid and righteous foundation.

Rep. Tancredo was correct in his position about many of his stances against illegal immigration. The entrenched powers that be and political correctness derailed his candidacy. The American people also had a hand in it as well, as they cannot see the full impact of the current trends if continued unchecked. This should be some great TV forthcoming. I'll even pay-per-view....to watch.....should be great!

where I live...
I have no sympathy and yes, Mexico is a failed state. But what it's doing is many things. It's showing the world how easily an invader can enter this country, regardless of criminal history or intentions. That our local and federal law enforcement (not connecting the dots) are hog tied by laws like Special Order 40, and on the street, everyone with a Latino name is suspect because the crush of people flooding our infrastructure makes absorption and assimilation impossible in a timely way. IF the illegal immigrant is even so motivated to bother.

I work for the LAPD in the forensic photo unit. And it's not a matter of perception the damage done to the city.
And the city government is corrupted to the core, with gang members having more political clout than normal citizens.

TeamNRA

The answer to your question is quite simple. American voters don't want to hear the truth. They want sunshine blown up their butts and be told that daddy will take care of them and make everything okay.

American voters by and large are quite ignorant people. They don't want to think, to inform themselves of the issues or to have to make tough decisions. They just vote for either a letter or the media darling.

http://www.trythinking.net

I have no sympathy
For a flood of illegal immigrants who demand our language, culture and laws accomodate WHATEVER they want.

My grandparents and parents suffered the indignity of Jim Crow and governments that endangered and discriminated against them. But they didn't bust into Canada illegally and demand Canada look the other way no matter what they did.
No, black people stayed and made their country do right by them.

And unfortunately, the possibility of what Obama represents as a black President, is ruined by the same whipped dog weakness in American illegal immigrant policy that terrorists have tested with each new election cycle for the last 40 years.

Media's Influence
Team NRA: The media is the reason why Tancredo didn't have a chance in the Primaries. They just focused on the candidates that they decided were "Top Tier." And even after Huckabee moved up in the polls and won the Iowa Caucus, the media still ignored him. When there were still 4 candidates in the race, the media focused on McCain and Romney and ignored Huckabee and Paul. The week before Super Tuesday, they even said that it was two-person race. So this election has taught me that it is the media who controls the elections. And now that Huckabee has joined FOX News, I'm wondering if that's part of his strategy for 2012.

But, back to 2008, the media should've given equal time and coverage to all the candidates. If they had, we might have a good candidate like Tancredo or Huckabee, instead of McCain.

I wrote Tom in--
Yes, I wrote Tom Tancredo in last Presidential election. Also I agree with all the excellent posts here that refer to the MSM as being the reason Tom didn't receive the recognition he so well deserved. I am also proud to say that I contributed along with my family to Tom's campaign this time around. We need Tom for POTUS, and Sheriff Joe for director of Homeland Security .. Tell me if I am wrong.

GALisa
You are so right. Rush warned that media would be in control once McCain Feingold was passed.
This was McCains thank you gift to media for
giving him such soft press, NOW he's learning
you can't kiss a cobra without getting bit.

Silver Lion, I don't know if your post was just facetious or serious, however I do agree with your premise that God is in control. I just read Peter Marshall's commentary on the revision of his book "The Light and The Glory"
in which he chronicles God's plan for this country from the beginning. This has nothing to do with the secular side of our society, but everything to do with the people who are seriously committed Christians (unlike the commitment Obama touts), it is up to us to
repent personally and corporately for our national health. Only then will we see a turn around, I don't believe God is quite ready to
delete us as a nation, He's got more work for our Republic. Everything we are witnessing
and have been witnessing with increasing speed
is God's call to repent and return to Him as a nation..be it mortgage problems, corruption in government, our failures everything is part of
His purpose to wake us up.

It won't end till half of Mexico is here
I may not be a lettered "expert" but I have studied this issue (immigration, legal and illegal) for almost ten years now, and I mean really studied it - daily.

Why you may ask? My brother was killed by an "illegal amigo" back in 1999. I have studied this issue daily since. Obsession, I admit.

Do I hate Mexico and Mexicans? No I don't. I'm not against immigration BUT, I repeat, BUT I am in favor of reducing all immigration, across the board, for a good ten years. Because as Mark Krikorian says, illegal immigration is closely tied to legal immigration (throw in "guest workers", "temporary workers", H-1B high tech visa scam, etc.) I am in favor of deportation for any illegal immigrant, from Mexico, China, Russia, India and Ireland, from anywhere.

Back to Mexico....it won't end till half of Mexico's population is here and we're getting close to that each and every day. There are likely OVER 20 million illegal aliens here today - stealing identities, committing social security fraud, income tax evasion, driving without a license, etc.

The elites (Jorge Bush, the Clintons, Osama/Obama, Juan McAmnesty, etc.) want to diminish borders to "globalize" the world, for they are serving the "world community"; they are no longer American patriots. They feel obligated to raise the standard of living of every person around the world instead of tending to business within our nation, as they are elected to do.

"Globalism is the new one world government - (communism)......."

You ain't seen nothin' yet !!
Could it get any worse in Kalifornia ? Ponder
this - Tinsle Town Plastic-Man AHH NOLD terms out in 2010.. So who is the early front runner to replace him ? None other than Mr. "Sanctuary City" himself - Gavin Newsome !! and who is expected to give Newsome a run for his money ?
Surprize !!! None other than La Raza front man - Antonio "Nut Job" Villaraigosa... May God have mercy on Kalifornia...

Give Calderon credit
Felipe Calderon is making unprecedented strides to crush Mexico's drug cartels and deserves some recognition from conservatives. Had Obrador (the leftist drug-cartel puppet) won, Mexico and the USA would suffer disastrous consequences.

Unpleasant Facts
Demographics are unattactive facts, because they point out the unpleasant realities. Not including illegal aliens, almost 30% of our population is non-Europeon. In 30 years, 1/2 the population will be non-Europeon. If we provide amnesty, it will take place more rapidly. And, if we continue to have essentially open borders, it will happen even more rapidly. We've reached the tipping point. This election is the last opportunity we have to alter this trend. Sadly, both candidates and both parties are now pandering to the 30%, and will do nothing to alter the trend. Both believe themselves to be reasonable. To change the trend, we'd have to deport all illegal aliens, lock down the obrders, and then end the ability of people to sponsor close relatives for citizenship. This is not going to happen with either candidate.

You will vote, but no matter who you vote for, you will lose. As the power of non-Europeons grow, after all, immigration laws will continue to be manipulate - per their demands. So, we're just under 30%. In 30 years, it will be 50%, and in 75 years, it will be 66%.

Like I said, Demographics are unpleasant facts.

Vote for McCain, Vote for Obama. You lose.

And yet again, Redlac
"Not including illegal aliens, almost 30% of our population is non-Europeon. In 30 years, 1/2 the population will be non-Europeon."

Except for the white supremacists among us, who cares what the population of the US will be in 30 years or 50 years. Who cares if they are white, brown, or blue. Only a racist would care.

What is important is that respect the Constitution, the rule of law, etc and these traits aren't restricted to only whites.

If so thank them
"Also I agree with all the excellent posts here that refer to the MSM as being the reason Tom didn't receive the recognition he so well deserved."

Look if the MSM is so biased toward liberals then the MSM would have done anything in its power to have some nutcase like Tancredo get the nomination. Mondale at least won one state, He would be hard pressed to win a single state. Obama would be up by 40 or 50 points at this point if that had been the case.

The MSM didn't cover him is because it doesn't cover nuts that have no way of winning the nomination.

Again, no
GALisa:

The MSM didn't decide who were top tier the people did. The MSM didn't cover Huckabee at first either and he got traction after Iowa and he was covered. The MSM covers people that have a chance and Tancredo never did. He was a one issue candidate who would say crazy things. Sorry those types don't win and the media don't cover people who can't win. If you people are right and the MSM is a giant liberal conspriacy--then a Tancredo/Hunter ticket would be their dream.

Pop quiz time:

Name me the last time a sitting House member got the nomination and won the presidency. Hint: He fought in the Civil War.

mexico
their economy and their govt is in the toilet, they would be better off if we invaded and conquered them, but what a mess

Culture matters Akagi....
I'm sorry "my friend" (Juan McAmnesty's favorite expression), cultures matters.

Who cares? I care and I dare to say three out of four Americans care and that includes most black Americans, for blacks are Americans.

Who are we getting today? Mestizo peasants from south of the borders, essentially Mexican-Indians with grade school educations. Fundamenalist Muslims. If you wear what is essentially a burka and walk a few steps behind your father/husband, you are not likely to ever become an American in the true sense of the word.

Furthermore Akagi, who gets to decide what the racial/ethnic make-up of the US should be? You? Immigrants? Business owners? Political office holders, who are paid-off to allow higher and higher immigration? The public is supposed to be the sovereign in this country.

This country was created by caucasian, Judeo-Christian, European-based, English speaking people who were already here (not immigrants). I venture to say, the public should be consented before the elites in the media, politics and business "decide" to change the United States into the United Nations.

FYI...racism and preserving heritage/culture/language are two different concepts.

Illegals and the cartels................
Stopping Illegal immegration into the US and possibly ending the rule of many drug cartel leader reigns is really simple.
Make Mexico our 53rd State after Puerto Rico.
We would get all the automakers back under US tax laws, Major oil revenue would be coming in from Petroleos Mexicanos, the tourist trade and thousands of other vital assets they have.

"This country was created by caucasian, Judeo-Christian, European-based, English speaking people who were already here."

You mean here after they slaughtered the native inhabitants--who were neither white, nor English speaking.

It is a Failed State Already
I mean, why else are they coming here in droves? Was it always this terrible for them in Mexico, or has the US made it so much better for them overtime? I think I know the answer to that one.

I'm also deeply suspicious about this fear amnesty. Not to say that the drug cartel out there isn't scary, but I think perhaps it might be used as a convenient excuse for most just to come over here with gates wide open.

Our country is changing and not for the better. It's a terrible burden for us all to endure and we're not equipped to handle this onslaught coming through. Throwing more of our tax dollars at the problem won't solve this.

Mexico should just sell itself to the highest bidder and have someone else take over. It will never improve.

Nessus
Just keep telling yourself like all the liberals do that no matter what, all white people are inherently evil, we kill off every one who is darker than us, and that we fear and loathe anyone who is not white.

Can't do that? Neither can I for that matter. I guess we'll simply be chalked up to be racists because we want to sustain our heritage, language and culture.

"I mean, why else are they coming here in droves? Was it always this terrible for them in Mexico, or has the US made it so much better for them overtime? I think I know the answer to that one."

Mostly due to the diaster known as NAFTA. In 1994, there were 2.5 million illegal Mexicans in the US--since then at least 8 million have come across. Why? Because NAFTA has basically destoryed the economy for the peasants and urban poor in Mexico.

Look at these stats:

NAFTA, by permitting heavily-subsidized US corn and other agri-business products to compete with small Mexican farmers, has driven the Mexican farmer off the land due to low-priced imports of US corn and other agricultural products. Some 2 million Mexicans have been forced out of agriculture, and many of those that remain are living in desperate poverty. These people are among those that cross the border to feed their families. (Meanwhile, corn-based tortilla prices climbed by 50%. No wonder many so Mexican peasants have called NAFTA their 'death warrant.'

NAFTA's service-sector rules allowed big firms like Wal-Mart to enter the Mexican market and, selling low-priced goods made by ultra-cheap labor in China, to displace locally-based shoe, toy, and candy firms. An estimated 28,000 small and medium-sized Mexican businesses have been eliminated.

Wages along the Mexican border have actually been driven down by about 25% since NAFTA, reported a Carnegie Endowment study. An over-supply of workers, combined with the crushing of union organizing drives as government policy, has resulted in sweatshop pay running sweatshops along the border where wages typically run 60 cents to $1 an hour.

Under these conditions, is there any wonder that there was been a flood of Mexican migrants since 1995?

Akagi
No, it's not about racism. It's about culture. This country is grounded in English Common Law, the French Enlightenment, and Europeon Culture. Change that, and you, by definition, change the culture. The irony is that to point his out, one is accused of racism. It has nothing to do with white supremecy. I travel the world. I have business relationships in a number of countries, including Asia. I like the cultures, but I don't choose to live there. Further, in most cases, they don't want me living there and they certainly would never permit an influx such as we are experiencing. In that context, and by your rules, they are aslo racist. Every country chooses - or at least most do - to protect their identity and their cultures. Only in America is one accused of being racist if they should dare assert that this is in fact that basis of America. Which it was. Now, I could pretend that it wasn't. Or I could pretend, I imagine, that the basis of the Constitution was some other source, but I'd be lieing. To be blunt, If I want to live in Mexico, I'll move there. Over 1/2 of those non-Europeons will be "hispanics", and in 50 or 70 years, they will eventually be the majority in the US. Don't even pretend to assert that when that transpires, that the US will not undergo a cultural change, nor that this will not affect the laws, their enforcement, and the publics perceptions of those laws. It is already happening.

By your assertion, the US does not have a culture. It has only laws. After all, to assert that their is a culture here, is be be accused of racism. How convenient.

You Gotta Vote

Please do NOT stay home. You must vote. You do not have to vote for Obama or McAmnesty. There are always other parties and people on the ballot. You could write in Joe Oliva. The important votes are for House and Senate seats. Conservatives MUST win seats in the House. The House is where things get done. It was the passage of H.R. 4437, an enforcement bill, in Dec.05 that sparked the illegal alien protest marches and moved this issue to the front burner. It was the Senate that tried to jam amnesty down our throats. The D's that won seats in '06 were conservatives running on enforcement platforms. One of them, Heath Shuler D-NC, introduced the SAVE Act. Call, e-mail, or write your Congressman and urge support of this legislation. Enforcement is what Americans want, not amnesty.

miseducated Akagi......
Asians, Arab/Muslims and Mexicans come from the leading racist, intolerant countries/cultures in the world and now they're gonna preach to us? What a frickin joke!

Akagi-boy needs to learn the meaning of big words like: sovereignty. That's a foreign word to his people/culture. They have been ruled by elites for centuries and still are half-slaves.

Redlac
Japanese immigration law is racist and since they are ungoing a long term population collaspe stupid as well. China's immigration laws which only do not allow Chinese citizenship unless you are a member of one of the 56-recognized ethnic groups is also racist.

But this thread and your comments aren't about Japanese immigration law, but US immigration law and your crying over whites not being a majority.

If someone wants to write a column on Japanese immigraion law sometime on TH then we can discuss Japanese immigration law--but that isn't the topic of this column now is it? Oh and in 70 years what happens to the US won't be any of my concern. I am pretty sure I'll be quite dead by then and if not too old to care who lives here.

Nessus
Who is exactly they?

Oh and one more thing
Care to list what countries you considered to have populations of half-slaves?

Akagi
This is the first time I can recall a claim of NAFTA worsening conditions in Mexico instead of the US. Sounds sketchy to me. Protectionism is a universally bad policy. Likely, if their economy has worsened, other factors are culpable (corruption, anarchy, high-taxation, etc). I'm personally staking substantial hope on Felipe Calderon's administration. Should he fail, Obrador will usurp power and serve as the drug cartels' puppet dictator ala FARC/Hugo Chavez.

Please stop being such a cynic over the USA's founding. The Indians did not claim the country as their sovereign nation. Constant territorial wars between the tribes amounted to near anarchy. Moreover, inhospitality to white settlers warranted protective measures. I won't deny that criminal atrocities occurred in the process. By and large, however, America was founded honorably.

NAFTA
"This is the first time I can recall a claim of NAFTA worsening conditions in Mexico instead of the US. Sounds sketchy to me."

NAFTA's horrible impact on the Mexican poor is well documented. While there has been some negative impact on the US in regards to NAFTA it has mostly been positive--especially to the likes of the argicultural interests and American-based multinationals like Wal-Mart who have flooded Mexico (and the US) with cheap Chinese-made goods.

While many TH people shiver in fear of NAFTA it has mostly been a benefit to the US--as the article "The NAU Farce" points out "A poli-sci undergrad can tell you who will prevail if Canadian, U.S., and Mexican negotiators get together to set out a common agenda. (Hint: it's not Mexico or Canada.)"

So it can sound dubious to you all you want. The fact is the the agricultural sector and small retail sector in Mexico has been slammed since NAFTA and this has in turn lead to increased illegal migration to the US when NAFTA was sold to the US people as cutting illegal migration it actually did the opposite.

A simple solution
Remove the welfare-state entitlements and the illegal immigration will drop. Having removed the incentives for the lazy, only dilligent, enterprising individuals will desire US citizenship. They will be much easier to accommodate and good for our country.

No evidence to make this claim
"Remove the welfare-state entitlements and the illegal immigration will drop."

The vast majority come to the US to work. They will come because there are more job opportunities in the US than in Mexico and they will come no matter what social services are offered in the US.

In the 1990s, Taiwan had a problem with illegals from Thailand and the Philippines and there were NO social services at all offered to these people. They came to work because you could earn more money in Taiwan working in a factory than being a nurse in Thailand or the Philippines. Despite the myths, few Mexicans come to the US for the welfare.

Akagi
Every country has to compete with China, pure and simple. No one can hide in their protectionist shell hoping to live in the past. At worst, NAFTA has merely accelerated the inevitable and, at best, offset an economic crisis of Smoot-Hawley proportions.

Large-scale agricultural exploits can also prove economically valuable. Large multinational corporations bring advanced farming technology which boosts food production and increases arable land use.

Akagi
If immigrants have no social services to exploit, then let them come. Let's work to crush America's social programs in order to ensure only the most dedicated individuals come to our country. In addition, the alleged bilingual programs must cease in earnest. Willingness to learn America's prevailing language reveals commendable devotion to the American dream.

So long as their criminal record is clean, I have no problem welcoming such people to my country.

To Akagi
This Ain't Taiwan. This is the USA, and we do Have A Socialist Social Welfare Program, and yes, These Good Little Workers Do Come Here To Make More Money, But That Does Not Keep Them From Exploiting Our Welfare System that Is Too Freely Offered and Dispensed With. Our Homegrown Welfare Recipients Have Made A Livelihood Out Of Exploiting This Same System For Decades now. And, Of Course, The Welfare Bureaucracies Themselves Encourage and Recruit New Victims to Add To Their Roles, Because With Addend Numbers, Comes Added Funds, and Thus Power For the Agency. That is The Problem With A Government Agency Being Formed To Begin With in The Case of "perceived Social Problems" Once the Agency gets started, it grows to Empire Status, and The "Perceived Social Problem" is guaranteed To Never Get Fixed or It's Numbers of So-Called Victims Decrease, and in Fact, Will Grow in Numbers As the Agency Becomes a Bigger and Bigger Empire.

To Akagi
Social Welfare Empire Status Agencies Created By the Liberal Government. (continued)

And, of course, These Huge Federal and State Bureaucracies continue to grow in size, breadth and scope, and go out and recruit New Victims To Increase Budgets. The problem with this is that "Somebody Has To Pay For All this." The abuse of the California system has put numerous hospitals and other health care providers out of business in the past few years, thanks to the services given freely to Illegals. The same is true in many states. Every state in the Continental U.S. now has more than their share of these illegals. Right here in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, they are growing in numbers daily. They are not making any attempts at Assimilating or otherwise trying to Be Legal and Become Citizens. They already show their Arrogance here and carry a Sense Of Entitlement attitude. Almost every place you go, you have to wait in line while somebody makes an attempt at translation. The only thing they do not need translation for is How To Count Our Money or How To Get Social Services, or to get out of a Car and Run, never to be caught, after they crash into your car. Recently, in a town nearby, Two Hispanics were caught on tape at a Rural Convenience store murdering the Propietors after robbing them at gun point. They left and have not been caught, and in fact, the local affiliate TV station, only carried the news item for about 30 seconds, and you have heard nothing about it since. All these illegals are not docile peasants who just want a better life. They are Criminals who have sought out new territory. And for the ones who just want a job, then do it legally.

End Entanglements With Mexico and Canada
NAFTA, CAFTA, UN, WHO, AND all the rest of the alphabet soup entanglements this country now has need to be permanently severed. Before we get too much further away from the Ideals of Our Founding Fathers, and the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, we need to reign in our government and it's Multi-National Agenda. Our Congress has not represented the interests of the Average American Working Family for over 40 years now. They, instead, cater to The Highest Bidders Who Buy Them The Elections, and Thus Their Influence and Access To The U.S. Trasury. On the low end, you have the Welfare Recipients, to whom they cater to for continued support and votes, and at the same time, they Know That Hungry Bellies Cause Revolutions, so the Socialist Government Makes sure That People Have Food and enough Money To Pay for their Vices such as drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. and of course, teach them that "they are victims" to begin with and are entitled to be lazy and not work. On the high end, you have them catering to Multi-National Corporations that hold no specific alliegence to any particular nation.

These One-World Government types have totally infiltrated our government and our system, and our congress and other branches have Sold We, The People Out.

As a nation, we need to demand an end to all these foreign entanglements. Most of the junk we import from China, could be produced here. Since, most of it is junk anyway, we do not even need to produce it. How many junky plastic toys do we really need.

Don't Forget The Neighbors
The U.S. government, during most of it's empire phase, wanted a weak Latin America. Thus, the American government supported dictators and PINOs(Presidents In Name Only).

We are now paying a huge price for our stupidity in the Western Hemisphere. We are not really trusted by the elites or the general populace. China, a smarter government, is moving in to fill the void of our neglect. They are more trusted than the "Greatest Nation In World History"(and one of the dumbest governments in world history).

We should have tried to spread genuine freedom in our own neighborhood. Give it a real shot, anyway. Guess the USA assumed Latin America would always defer to us. Business people, foreign relations experts with phds from Stanford, and semi-conscious politicians erred on the side of control. Should have known better. We were trying to undo the same basic attitude concerning the Russkies. Irony, a concept not usually grasped in Ketchup On Everything Land.

Oh Akagi,
How dramatic! We didn't slaughter the Indians. We fought them and won. Just like every other country in the world who did the same thing. The only difference is that in this country, we gave them rights and citizenship and didn't make them permanent slaves like many other places would do. I don't know what utopia you're living in, but on Planet Earth, that's the way things happen.

RazorRead
Have you ever bothered to read about the governments to the south of us?

How you come up with blaming America for all that corruption is astounding.

To Akagi---Shut Up
It is obvious that Akagi has his own agenda and ignorant views to support it.

It is also obvious that Mr. Akagi has no interest in the future of this country or it's traditions, as he states, "It doesn't matter what happens in 70 years as I won't be around."

See, that is the problem with Socialists such as Akagi. They only care about themselves and Immediate Gratification, and have no concerns for the future of others, such as children and grandchildren, nor the freedoms and privileges we have as a nation, because We Worked For Them, and Many Sacrificed Their Lives for it and so that Mr. Traitor Akagi can even Live Here and Experience Our Freedoms and Tolerance. He is a typical Socialist who tries to brand everybody a Racist when they do not agree with folks. It is not color or race that the majority of Americans have a problem with. It is the Rule Of Law. Playing the Race Card has long been overused and abused, and basically, most Americans are sick of hearing it and ignore it. I am caucasian and aborigine American mix, but for all practical purposes, I am just an American, A Patriot, A veteran, and proud of all the Above. My black buddies are sick of their own Race Hustlers such as Jesse Jackson, Sharpton, Farakhan, Jeremiah Wright, Obama and the rest claiming to speak for them, and they are sick of blacks who Use The Race Card everytime that they are held accountable for their behavior, which so often times happens. Blacks I know Are Americans and proud of it, and are sick and tired of being treated Inferior By Their Own Self-Appointed Spokes Persons. They work and play on an even field and do not want to be treated like they need Special Treatment or Unfair Treatment, such as Quotas, to get a Job. They want to be picked on qualification. All you other crybaby Socialists need to do the same thing.

handing it off to somebody else
I am signing off. Got real work to do. Gotta pay the bills. It is the traditional American Way, and I am proud and grateful to be able to do it. So, I am signing off for now, and leave it to some of you other sane conservatives to educate and dispute the likes of Mr. Akagi and some others who come on here to espouse their ignorance at times. So, have a great day, and Happy Trails to You All.

Mexico & corruption
This is nothing new. Every banana republic has to have a very stern dictator in order to curtail a humans basic instinct. Mexico is no different. Unfortunately, Mexico need a very strong but honest dictator. That way he can remove every corrupt politician in the country, thereby getting rid of the drugistas who is tied to the corrupt politicians or vice a versa

Corruption, just misunderstandings per
And these are the people that Bush says are good for AMERICA.

Join the sacred fight to save America!

Presidente Jorge has put out a, "Bienvenido, amigos" sign down on the border. It will not be easy to force the political will against the powerful Conspiracy Of Evil, even though > 70%+ of Americans want the result. The survival of America depends upon enforcing EXISTING laws.

Many pols have been bought and paid for by the Reconquista lobby ilk, and mainly by the miscreant employer/Chamber lobbies who bray the disingenuous drivel about "America must have that cheap labor to do those jobs Americans won't do."

HOGWASH- Americans simply expect a living wage to do those jobs. When the govt. makes token show raids on meat plants, etc., Americans return to reclaim those jobs immediately. ILLEGAL alien employers are NOT saving YOU money-- your hotel room or head of lettuce is NO cheaper to YOU... the lawbreaking employers are simply pocketing more profit at citizen expense.

The above forces of evil are aided and abetted by the PC multicultural cabal, including the remote "elite" MSM, and the scandal-ridden Catholic Church trying to fill those vacant pews with better paying ILLEGALS.
