Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Recent news stories asserting that President Obama’s interest in pursuing cap-and-trade legislation is dwindling are premature. These media accounts make too much of rumors that Obama is backing away from auctioning 100 percent of carbon emissions credits and the Administration’s only tepid support of proposed global warming legislation authored by Representatives Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Ed Markey (D-MA).

In reality, sketchy plans and letting Congress take the lead is classic Obama.

Recall that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) wrote the stimulus bill and Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner’s initial bank bailout plan was panned for lacking details.

What Obama lacks in leadership, substance and management skills, he more than makes up for with rhetoric and ideological zeal. Time and again Obama shows he will use his power to drive the left-wing agenda without regard to economic consequences or loss of liberty. Moreover, with the liberal holy grail of penalizing fossil fuel use in his grasp, it’s doubtful Obama will shy away.

Obama’s dealings with General Motors provide ample evidence that his strident left-wing beliefs supersede sound economic judgment. With GM, Obama is leveraging bailout money to shape the automobile industry according to the designs of the environmental lobby.

Soon after Obama fired GM CEO Rick Wagner, the Administration announced it was overriding the recommendation of the president’s own auto task force by deciding to move forward with the Chevy Volt – the company’s electric car.

But it’s no secret that the Volt is going to be a financial loser.

In its March 30 report on the viability of GM, the auto task force said “…while the Chevy Volt holds promise, it will likely be too expensive to be commercially successful in the short-term.”

GM’s new CEO Fritz Henderson acknowledges that vehicles based on first generation technology such as the Volt will not be profitable. In an interview with Automotive News, Henderson commented on the Volt saying, “…the cost is high. And that means, it doesn't necessarily pay the rent. It actually consumes rent when it's launched."

The political agenda behind the decision to sell the Volt was highlighted by an analyst at the Center for Automotive Research, who said, “But the Obama administration has put such a high priority on the electrification of the vehicle that it would be a very difficult policy decision to drop the Volt.”

With politics driving decisions, it was not surprising to see Obama use $285 million of the $787 billion stimulus package to order over 17,000 fuel-efficient vehicles from GM, Ford, and Chrysler, including 2,500 hybrids.

The White House, keeping to its global warming theme, hyped that the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions will “… prevent 26 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.”

Similarly, Obama is ignoring market reality in his quest to significantly increase use of renewable energy. Recent decisions by oil giants British Petroleum (BP) and Shell makes it clear that carbon-based fossil fuels are the most efficient way to power our economy.

Not long ago both companies sought to demonstrate their corporate social responsibility by touting their commitments to renewable energy. BP’s high profile “Beyond Petroleum” advertising campaign was designed to emphasize its pledge to alternative fuels.

Shell is now refusing to invest additional resources in wind and solar power and BP – going back to its petroleum roots – cut its investments in renewable energy.

In fact, these companies are now looking to meet future energy needs by investing in Canadian oil sands – a carbon-rich source of energy that emits more carbon dioxide than does conventional oil.

After dabbling in political correctness, energy companies recognize that wind and solar alternatives don’t make economic sense.

The reason for this was made by Energy Secretary Steven Chu, who wrote in a Newsweek commentary that “Strictly from a physicist's perspective, burning oil for fuel can be understood.” Translation: fossil fuels are an efficient energy source.

Physics and economics aside, energy companies are on a collision course with Obama’s political directive to “make the U.S. a leader on climate change” and “save our planet from the ravages of climate change…”

Enter global warming legislation.

As John Deutch, former director of the CIA and a professor at MIT said, “The important thing is for the government to establish a carbon policy. You can be absolutely confident that oil companies will pursue that, as will any other companies.”

The best way for Obama to achieve the liberal nirvana of electric cars, wind and solar energy is through the brute force of government intervention via cap-and-trade legislation. Alternatives only become cost effective when the cost of traditional energy sources are increased.

Obama reiterated his unyielding support of cap-and-trade in a recent speech on the economy, saying “But the only way to truly spark this transformation is through a gradual, market-based cap on carbon pollution, so that clean energy is the profitable kind of energy… If businesses and entrepreneurs know today that we are closing this carbon pollution loophole, they will start investing in clean energy now.”

If Obama is willing to mandate that GM – a company on the verge of bankruptcy – sell a financial loser for the cause, he will not abandon the opportunity to regulate carbon emissions regardless of the economic costs.

With Obama, it’s policy by ideology; not reason.

The poor is going to suffer
And no one really cares no matter how much lip service it gets.

The policies this admin is striving for is going to raise the costs of all human basic needs.

Food, Shelter, Transportation, Utilities, Clothing.

No Science Here
First - all this talk about carbon without one tangible goal. Laying aside the science that shows that carbon in the form of CO2 is not the cause of "global warming", there must be some ratio that the junk science relies on. Even Al Gore must understand that there is no way to reduce it to zero.

Second - with no concrete goal in mind, there is no way to determine what the "proper" amount of carbon should be. That means that all carbon reduction is a guessing game at best, and a means to impoverish the U.S.

Third - the only positive results of Cap and Trade is more revenue to the government. But anytime the government gets money it has to come from the productive at the producers expense. This translates to a lower standard of living for all but the government.

Fourth - the computer models that "predict" the coming disaster is built from the same models that cannot give accurate results if numbers from any prior year is plugged in. The models are so shaky that they cannot be accurate for a limited area over a short period of time, let alone the entire globe.

A million EVs won't do much
Obama's cherished goal of 1 million electrically propelled vehicles on the roads by 2015 may sound impressive, but the effect on oil depdency and emissions can't even be detected, despite the expected "thousands of tons of carbon" statements that mislead. It would lower oil consumption by less than 1/5th of one percent. Anybody expecting to see gas price drops will be waiting a long time.

talent scout
Absolutely. The poor suffer the most from the policies of these "compassionate" conservative Republicans and bleeding-heart liberal Democrats. The Obamas and Bushes walk away from their tyrannical rule wealthier than ever, while we working stiffs are stiffed with the costs of it all.

re: kent
I agree. What is not talked about when Obama or someone else totes the "fully-electric" vehicles is that it simply transfers the pollution from the car to the power plant.

Those fancy cars still need energy one way or another, and if you use electricity then you need the power plants to produce it. While it will reduce the day-to-day pollution by some extent, as power plants are more efficient and easier to regulate, the total pollution might end up being higher! Why? The batteries in these cars are notorious for being very toxic to dispose of, and there will be additional pollution everywhere as cities build and expand their power production and electric grids to compensate for the new demand of the electric cars.

Not the wave of the "green" future anymore, huh?

Connect the Dots!
It's all connected to the Global Poverty Act,the U.N. Millenium Declaration, and it's all about money and power and denying us our God-given rights and resourses.("The good Lord giveth-and the government taketh away!")And don't forget,Agenda 21,the "U.N.'s Global Land Grab"!It's as oppressive as it is depressive.I pity anyone who doesn't wake up and see were all this is headed, and understand the forces behind it."As fish are caught in a cruel net,or birds are taken in a snare,so men are trapped by evil times that fall unexpectedly upon them."-Ecclesiastes 9:12

Dknight
You are correct. Energy must be produce somewhere for vehicles. But IMHO, producing the energy ata central location will allow for tighter controls on emmisions. That being said, I believe the power should be used to produce hydrogen. Engines can be readily designed to burn hydrogen thus eliminating the need to expensive battery packs (which need replacing at regular intervals). All the government will have to do is "invest" in research to foster hydrogen production and distribution. They can look to Germany. They have a pilot program in place.

Well, America, what do you think about this?

Unintended consequences...
If you elect to the most powerful office in the world a idealogically driven demagogue with no executive experience, you should expect some disastorous outcomes. The simple market reality is that Obama's silly "green economy" is going to totally destroy the economy.

His ideas of jacking up energy costs to the equivalent of $5 to $6 gasoline and then hoping to sell millions of hybrid and electric cars is asinine. The process of raising the cost of energy to that level through this cap and trade silliness is going to bring on a destructive depression of the economy like the world has never seen.

It doesn't take a genius to see this, but it does take someone other than a liberal.

It gets better...
Neither Congress nor Obama will have to 'pass' legislation on carbon emissions. Instead they will allow the EPA to mandate new policies, promulgate new regulations all under the color of law and pretend they are only following orders from the 'unelected czars' of the lower tier of 'government by unconstitutional bureaucracy'.

The only thing Obama and the cronies in the Congress will do is tell us all how we are going to pay for it. Naturally all of the cost of this ill-timed and useless, flavor of the decade, from the smorgasbord of environmental lunacy will be borne by the end users and the poorest of the poor all while saving no one from the invisible monster.

This is sheer madness...

Happy now ?

If you ask a liberal about
the last ice age, some 20,000 years ago when there were few people, no cars etc and why all that ice melted, you get blank stares.

When that question gets answered, I might consider global warming to be a worry worthy of gov't intervention.

Gov't always needs an excuse or better for them a "crises" to extend their reach and power over the rest of us..this is the latest.

If they really were simply concerned over GW, they'd go nuclear as the French have done getting 85% of the electricity that way.

Natural gas is clean and we have lots of it, drill for more? OH no.

We have more coal than anyone in the world, half of our electricity comes from burning coal, seems to me, investing a little more in reducing emissions from coal plants while we build nukes to replace them would be a much better idea than bankrupting the rest of us with an increase in our electric bills of $3,000 a year as dumbo tells us he will do.

The inmates are in charge of the asylum and we better take back our control or we are lost, this guy is insane.

Scrap Iron
"Engines can be readily designed to burn hydrogen thus eliminating the need to expensive battery packs"

Sorry to burst your hydrogen bubble but hydrogen has already been burned.

H2O is a bi-product. Extracting hydrogen to its liquid state requires either chemical (grossly inefficient) or electrical (electrolysis) reactions to separate the hydrogen. electrolysis is only 30 to 40 percent efficient which means you get less energy out than required to extract it. Costs will ruinous.

Then there is the question of space. While a pound of hydrogen is 2.5 times more powerful than a pound of gasoline, hydrogen even in it's liquid form takes up more space. This results in 4.5 times less energy per gallon.

Dude, your car will have to be 80 feet long unless you are willing to stop for hydrogen 5 times more often.

Oil is the most compact high energy available. Ideology can be anything you want but physics is pretty much set. We are seeing the triumph of ideology over science but it won't work.

EPA just released a report that CO2 is dangerous to humans.
Enviromentalists are thrilled.
Pres. Obama is seriously addressing Global Warming.

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
Common defense. If an asteroid were headed for earth, does the US constitution give the President the power to defend against that threat?

Global warming may be a slower threat but a threat none the less.

Whatever happend to...
...leading by example? Why aren't ALL internal combustion engines banned from Capitol hill, the White House, and the Supreme Court for all government officials, their staffs, and visitors?Battery operated vehicles only,I say.Show the American people how superior these vehicles are BEFORE you impose it, by law, on the rest of society.

Where are the investigative reporters showing what the spouses and children of politicians drive? What is the Newsmedia driving? When we are through with Washington,we can initiate the same standards on ALL college campuses. me.

I say: NO PRIVATE VEHICLES IN THE CITY OF WASHINGTON WILL BE PERMITTED UNLESS THEY ARE BATTERY OPERATED!!!

Until that happens, they are wasting their time talking to me.

Seawolf
DO you want to know why the country has abandoned you. Because conservatives can't get their own act together. Some are denying that global warming exists, some say it exists but man is not the cause and some say it does exist is man made but want a market based solution like a carbon tax.

In other words at the end of the day all conservatives can agree upon is that they don't like Al Gore and the liberal solution to the problem. Thats what makes Republicans the party of know.

The same thing is true about Univseral Healthcare. When Hillary was touting her plan, Republicans said they had an alternative a more conservative market based approach to the uninsured. When the Republicans came into power that did nothing. Their alternatives were never alternatives they were only a strategy to prevent the liberal solution. Given the option of a liberal solution on one side and no solution on the other moderates will take the liberal solution.

JMO51...
...What kind of car do YOU drive?

Just asking.

Clean energy
Now, that global warming has become climate change which may become thinner crust under Greenland (hence the melting of its ice cover), the argument for clean air is "public health" (nobody can dispute its importance). CAT (Cap-and-trade) will be shoved down our throats with the help of our children's health. Efficient and cleanest known energy source today is nuclear but that, of course is off the table and politically unacceptable. JUST WITNESS WHERE THE IDEOLOGY-DRIVEN SOVIET ECONOMY ENDED UP. IS IT WHERE WE ALSO WANT TO END UP!!! Has anyone asked lately the consequences of destroying the tropical forests in order to produce more bio-fuel (and paper for the 9 million word long US tax code?) A few decades ago that was behind the public hysteria. One is under the impression that Obama et. al. are methodically want to destroy the USA.

How?
Global Warming? Climate Change?

For all the liberal retards out there, please answer this simple question. When has the climate ever been stagnate? You idiots are all aware that the planet has been around far longer than man has been on it. The climate will change whether we are here or not.

For JMO51 you are an idiot. Please tell me what liberal/democrat ideas are in place? How will universal healthcare improve medicine? Look at England, look at Canada. For basic checkups, routine things, the system works. Costly treatments, everyone gets screwed and the government tells people who have the money they can't go elsewhere. Screw that. I refuse to let some idiot parasite in public office tell me that a life saving procedure will be denied to me or a loved one because it isn't fair to my neighbor. Liberal idiots, congratulations you are destroying the greatest nation the world has ever been witness too. Once were broke, I can't wait to see which nation steps up to help in the next, earthquake, typhoon, tsunami, etc.... You should be proud.

More absurdity...
JM05 and his straw-man

An asteroid heading for the earth would not require a restructuring of the entire economy of the United States.

Perhaps if little green men showed up with space dollars that might be cause for such a "presidential decision."

As things are, however, the earth happens to be getting cooler -NOT WARMER- due to a decrease in sun spot activity but then that doesn't fit the environmentalist power grab template does it?

Part One
The following was written by a Mr. Pombo. We (the USA) need to pursue this policy. It is the right thing to do:

Offshore oil and natural gas production will devastate our beaches, wreak havoc on tourism, and destroy sensitive ecosystems. Unlike every other developed nation in the world, the United States cannot safely produce oil and natural gas on its outer continental shelf (OCS) to grow the economy without harming the environment. At least, that’s the age-old drone of opponents to increasing offshore energy production here at home. And, speaking as a cattle rancher, it’s all a load of bull.
Thankfully, according to recent polling data, most Americans know this to be the case, successfully demanding last year that their government remove the bans that prevented offshore energy production for nearly three decades. But not all of our elected leaders seem to have accepted this new reality. Later today, the secretary of the Interior will be in San Francisco – rallying support for the old line of reasoning that says economic gain cannot be achieved without environmental pain.
Interestingly, it’s an event being billed as a forum to help find new ways in which America can better and more efficiently utilize its abundant energy resources offshore to achieve key economic and strategic goals. But actions speak louder than words, and the only pro-energy action we’ve seen out of the new Interior Department to date is delay, delay, delay.
While the secretary is likely to stir up colorful protests in San Francisco today – with help from passionately ignorant environmentalist left - the facts governing our ability to safely and responsibly explore for energy resources offshore are far less controversial. The simple truth? We know there are abundant energy resources far off our coasts. We know how to reach them. And we know how to produce them safely, efficiently and without harming the environment.

Part Two
The following was written by a Mr. Pombo. We (the USA) need to pursue this policy:

Environmental activists are famous for trotting out images of the 1969 Santa Barbara spill, but a lot has changed since offshore energy development began so many years ago. Cutting edge 3-D seismic and 4-D time imaging technologies make it possible find oil and gas more accurately. That means less drilling, less disturbance and more resources. Equipment like storm chokes and new devices like blowout preventers—which would have prevent the Santa Barbara spill — are now standard operating gear.
The billions of dollars invested in new technologies and practices have yielded impressive results: the Interior Department, itself, found that from 1985 to 2001, offshore operators produced seven billion barrels of oil with a spill rate of .001 percent – an infinitesimal quantity compared to the volumes that enter the marine environment through natural seeps in the ocean floor. That’s just not good enough for those who continue to prefer that America keep its abundant energy resources under lock and key, but it should be.
The federal government estimates that more than 86 billion barrels of oil and 420 trillion cubic feet of natural gas lay ready to be discovered along America’s Outer Continental Shelf—that’s enough energy to replace 50 years worth of imported OPEC oil. And a recent study found that access to currently off-limits offshore energy resources could generate 160,000 jobs and generate $1.7 trillion in local, state and federal revenue. In fact, it may surprise most Californians to learn that our state received $325 million in energy-related revenue last year alone. That total can increase immensely—without damaging the environment—if the secretary of the Interior follows through with offshore energy development.

Part Three (last)
The following was written by a Mr. Pombo. We (the USA) need to pursue this policy:

We all know that any balanced, comprehensive energy strategy must include three important components: greater efficiency of the energy we have, greater access to the energy we need and greater investment in the technology of tomorrow that will allow us to generate more energy from alternative, renewable sources. Developing just a portion of our nation’s massive energy resources offshore could satisfy a number of these requirements, all while creating thousands of new, high-paying jobs for California residents, millions in new state revenue and putting our nation on a serious, sustainable path toward energy security.
The fact is resources fuel our economy. They are the building blocks of our society. Without them we produce nothing. Restricting balanced access to them in America is tantamount to cutting off one’s nose to spite one’s face. But this was the choice the Congress and the federal government made thirty years ago. It was a false choice - based on the notion that America had to choose between economic growth and environmental protection. With today’s technology we can and must have both – in balance - at the same time. The all-or-nothing, lock-it-away, look-but-don’t-touch underpinnings of these policies have resulted in just such a scenario: America’s abundant resources have been kept under lock and key, jobs and economic security has been exported.
No matter how aggressive our efforts to pursue alternatives become, the short to medium-term needs of our nation will require increasing amounts of conventional resources, lest the nation risk an even deeper economic recession than that facing us today. Today, you have an opportunity to help move that important plan along by making your voice heard at the UCSF hearing. And hopefully while you’re at it: reject the false choice between affordable energy and a clean, healthy environment.

Breathing
I wonder when we're all going to be taxed for breathing. We all exhale carbon dioxide.

ThomasPain
Oh great. You would have to bring facts and reason into the discussion!!

Well said.

Cap and trade
We are having tea parties. It may be time to have Crap and trade parties. The liberal power grab and the destruction of our nation has to be fought. This gorbal warming BS has to be stopped. However, any society that teaches neo-darwinism to be the truth, has to expect bad science as the result.

To Sgt Relic
Sarge, I appeciate your respnse. I ubderstand that Hydrogen has less BTUs/unit than oil. But I also understand that oilis too precious to waste as a fuel (bit of a catch-22, no?). I was unaware of the inefficiency of hydrogen production. I won't take your word on that until I can verify it independently. However, using nuclear produced energy to generate the hydrogen (which when burned is VERY clean) would be a great start for local commuters. I don't know the costs of hydrogen, but in Houston, we could use the lower emmissions to aid in cleaning up our air.

(Liberals, take note) Sarge I appreciate the fact that you disagree with mr without the use of name-calling and other tactics employed by those without facts.
PS Army or Marine?

JMO51
Even God does not give the president of any country or group of countries the power to deal with a global issue such as atmospheric CO2 concentration. The US, which emits less than 20% of global CO2 annually, could not "solve" AGW, even if it reduced annual CO2 emissions to zero instantly.

If AGW is a problem, it is a global problem and is amenable only to a global solution. Anything less is doomed to failure, no matter how pure our motives or how great our sacrifice.

Obama - Idealistic Tool or is it FOOL?
Obama is such an Idealistic Child. A product of a Liberal Mother that hated White men, who went out an got knocked up by a Kenyan Goat herder. Then the Mother being a Typical Liberal 60's Hippie type, went to Indonesia discover herself, got married to a Muslim. Got Divorced and then dropped little Barry off with the Grandparents in Hawaii, so she could continue her self discovery. Its no wonder why this guy is so screwed up in the Brain.

When the decisions seem insane
Question the goals.

What are the other costs?
Will Colorado provide aquaducts for California, Arizona and Nevada to put solar panels in the middle of the desert? The panels will need to be cleaned.

Will the energy produced from a wind generation farm be enough to pay for the cutting of the grass or the individual maintenance on each of the 1000 generators it will take to provide energy for a medium sized city?

Damn the costs we will save the planet!

Obama's Energy "Plan"
If Obama truly had a workable energy plan, we should have seen a basic outline explaining the transition away from the use of fossil fuels to the use of its fabulous, new replacement; a vast source of efficient, renewable, non-polluting energy which, incidentally, has yet to be discovered.

As unbelievable as it may be, it has become clear that he has no real plan. He seems to believe that he can effect this metamorphosis by driving up the cost of traditional fuels through restricting their availability and burdening the producers with onerous new taxes. His disciples aren't sure exactly how it will work, but work it must. He simply can't be wrong.

So now the world awaits the General Obama Motors $60,000, all-electric "Volt"swagen just in time for those skyrocketing electric rates the "Great One", in his wisdom, has promised us.

That's what we get for hiring a far-left, activist, college kid to run the country.

Energy Policy
What's really unethical here and a major conflict of interest is that Gore, Pelosi, and many other politicos are investing in green technologies on the ground floor while at the same time they promote them (with scare tactics and otherwise) they craft legislation (or otherwise influence legislation) to mandate green technologies in order to boost their investments, usually as a tag team with lobbyists. Many of these technologies, like ethanol production from corn (VERY inefficient), have been shown to be NOT in the best interest of the majority of the American people or the planet, either now or even the future. Yet ethanol production from corn was subsidized heavily. Global warming as Gore is pushing is far, far from a sure thing. So this is, again, a pack of lies or orchestrated deceit in order to capitalize on investments they’ve made and other nefarious reasons. How low is that?!? I’m not against “going green” and don’t discount global warming completely but since these proposed remedies have such an impact on the economy and people’s lives any measure taken has to be on very firm ground and with a maximum return on investments…not just monetarily but also quality of life for ALL. The solutions must be analyzed from a complete lifecycle perspective to ensure that the downside is absolutely minimized while the upside is maximized, again, not just monetarily but also quality of life for ALL.

IDEOLOGY AND OBAMA'S DOG
Even the selection of the White House dog was driven by ideology. It is a good socialist mut trained and rasied in the liberal household of Ted Kennedy.

The NEW AMERICAN DREAM
Pass laws to prohibit the growth of an upper middle class and protect the outragiously wealthy. New tax policy will not have much affect on those who already have because they can put their money into tax defered or tax free investments. The upper middle trying to break into the elite status of politicians must pay the new taxes.

Generate laws that create a banking crisis so you can come to the rescue with hundreds of billions of dollars. Government money always gets funneled off to corporations close to politicians.

Instead of putting money into the hands of builders who can hire people and give them tax incentives to build new and remodel homes to meet energy standards put money into wind and pretend wind generation is the answer to saving the planet.

Agreed, this is going to take a world wide effort. But the US cannot be a moral leader if it won't sign onto International Agreements as GWB did. I doubt whether we have the capability of coming together on this issue. One thing I know for sure is that most conservatives are part of the problem always promoting policies that match the agenda of ExXon Mobil.

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
Maybe we don't have the will to do the long term things that are in our interests. But one thing is for sure when the day of reconing finally arrives as people of that time ask why the people of our time did nothing, they can all agree that conservatives with views like yours were the reason.

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
I strongly disagree with your premise that if the consitution did not explicitly spell out a power of the federal government it is not the Feds Role.

THe founding fathers did not anticipate an airforce of NASA because airplains and Space Travels did not exist. They also did not spell out the need for an FCC, no Radio, TV or Internet.

The constitution cannot be taken literally. You must take into account the orginal language, acts of congress and interpetations by the federal courts.

If you think that something is unconstitutional file a lawsuit and if you win you are right and if you lose you are wrong.

Cap & Trade Scheme
If Obama really wanted to address the fossil fuel pollution ( I don't believe the Global Warming Premise) then why doesn't he just tax these companies (cap them) And then give tax credits to companies that produce green products and clean the air?
The answer is simple: Trading the Credits is a money making scheme of who all the Al Gore's of this world will make billions. They will be traded somewhat like stocks.
I smell a big rat here. Even if you believe in the Global Warming Issue, explain to me why the carbon credits is a good idea?

Thanks, I was hoping someone would bring up off-shore drilling.

To Obama
it's all about social engineering. Our cars, houses, jobs, beliefs are all things to be shaped by liberal Dems. Remember the movie "Demolition Man"? A politically-correct society was used as a backdrop for comic relief. It is Obama's dream!

JMO51
JMO51 says "...the US cannot be a moral leader if it won't sign onto International Agreements as GWB did."

If you want to carry on a rational discussion you really should educate yourself on civics and history.

Presidents may sign on to "International Agreements", but not until ratified. This is done by the legislature. Before the Kyoto Protocol was brought before the Senate for ratification, a vote was taken on the Byrd-Hagel Resolution which specified that, before they would ratify such a treaty, it must apply to all countries, and must not cause serious harm to the economy. It passed the Senate 95-0. President Clinton never submitted Kyoto to the Senate due to lack of support.

Do you recall, at any time during the Bush administration, Democrats clamoring to ratify the treaty? No, they didn't want it either. Instead, they created the illusion that Bush and the Republicans were obstructing their environmental goals. And you idiots bought the lie.

JMO51, etc.
JMO51: So you actually believe in this doomsday scenario of CO2-AGW catastrophe? Have you read anything about the Pacific Decadal Oscillation? Do you realize that CO2 comprises 0.038% of our atmosphere and is therefore a "trace gas"? Don't take my word - read Dr. Roy Spencer, Dr. Richard Lindzen, and any number of other respected climatologists / meteorologists. The sky is NOT falling!

As others have said, if the environmentalists were true to their cause, they'd embrace nuclear power due to its inherent efficiency, density and durability. Check out Hyperion Power Generation for an alternative to large-scale power plants. Amazing! and Safe.

Obama wants to lower the standard
of living for Americans because it would be more fair to nomads in the African bush. When electricity costs $2000 more per year and gas is $10 a gal. then he'll be telling you to stop eating meat or drinking beer. In the meantime, O is addicted to cigarettes but the MSM will never show him with one.

I don't see him lowering the thermostat at the WH or walking instead of riding in limos.

We pay $2.36 BILLION for Cong. to ride in limos and towncars. I should think there would be a small savings.

Email Conf. relentlessly.

They are evidently scared to death. The poor MSM is all in a twist over tea parties they simply don't understand (and you cannot report CSNBC or CNN to the FCC for making porno jokes about teabagging as they are cable).

The right has never taken to the streets before. We are encroaching on Lefty territory and their lower brains (the reptilian ones) are responding with fear and loathing.

Today, tea party in Phila. today, also in Athens, AL, and Inverness, FL.

I do believe have the same position as most of the legitimate climate community. You know when the Tabacco Companies were telling us that there was no link between smoking and Cancer. There were articles written by this Doctor that reseacher that backed up the Tabacco industry's claims and the conservatives of their day were quoting them. The evidence for Global warming is compelling. As to nuclear power, not everyone in the environmental community is against it, but there is the problem of nuclear waste which as you know even the reddest of red states is not offering to store for the rest of us at any price.

P.S. in fairness, I am not sure I buy the arguments of the most alarmist of the environmentalists either. If you read the predictions about the state of the world in the year 2000 based upon what the environmentalists said we would all be bead. That said, we as a country have done a lot to clean up our natural enviroment, more under dems than Republicans. Again to be fair, Noxon created the EPA, Bush Senior was an environmentalist, Junior was a disaster.

minky
I need to look into what you are telling me, but I would not be totally surpised.

obama's economic illiteracy
obama does not understand economic realities. He thinks that if he raises the cost of conventional and cheap carbon based energy to the cost of the "green" energy that somehow we will all be as productive.

He does not understand that the rest of the world is not buying into this stupidity and neither are industries. This will cause the largest exodus of jobs to parts of the world that are perfectly willing to take this windfall and build their own economy.

What will this mean for the US? Actually, with the Chinese willing to take the lead in capitalist markets, we will have a new giant. Talent will leave this country to new dominant markets.

Obama will turn this country into what Europe is now; a mere shell of its greatness content on dying a slow quiet death.

Cap & Trade
As a long time conservationist, I have been interested in the topic of climate change. I have read many articles online and in periodicals and newspapers. What I have found is that this whole idea of anthropogenic global warming is nothing more than a theory - an hypothesis. The reality is that scientists are not in agreement about any of this. And our federal government wants to enact additional costs on the entire citizenry over a questionable scientific theory? My theory is that our leaders in Washington D.C. (and Al Gore also) know that this is junk science, and they do not care, because they see this as a way to get more money for the government- plain & simple.
Their timing could not be worse. We are trying to climb out from under a recession coupled with unprecedented federal government allocation of money - which they (we) do not have. Sorry, but this tax on carbon will not make wind and/or solar happen any sooner. If anyone had the technology to make either (or both) of those, or something else entirely workable on a mass scale, surely there would be no holding back, because there is too much money to be made.

never waste a good crisis
If the Pachyderm party had half a brain in their backsides, they would recognize that this cap-and-trade BS is giving them the greatest electoral wedge issue in the history of the universe. If the Obamites double people's electric bills and give them $6/gal gas, and then lie in their faces and tell them it's for their own good, but they are just too dumb to realize it, they are going to alienate about 90% of the electorate -- make that 98% of the electorate outside of San Francisco, New York, and the Commie-wealth of Taxachusetts.

It doesn't matter what other issues are on the table. If the Elephants take a stand against this Algorian global warming nonsense and promise free flow of oil at market prices, development of coal-to-gasoline and also oil shale, and removal of restrictions on nuclear plants, the Jackass Party is absolutely doomed in 2010.

Will the Repubs see this? I doubt it. People don't call them the Stupid Party for nothing.

JMO51
Your are a total tool my friend, just remember what you and your kind did to us when you wonder a few years down the road....How the hell did it come to this?

Tom in Georgia,
There is a pretty good debate on youtube. Both sides get to make their argument. Any hypothesis or model must be tested with real data. To see how the AGW models compare to temperature observations go to about 5:30 of this link. If you can spare the time the whole debate is worth watching.

The Need for Cap & Trade
Obama & friends need this money to bankroll their coctail parties with $100/lb Japanese beef burger appetizers.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed...
We still have ALL the energy we've ever had--in one form or another. Even the "extra" people are STILL energy that's always been here, not additional.

SOOO--we are going into another cycle of ice and cold--not the other way around; and energy will simply be converted again into what the earth needs to survive. We will die, be replaced by others. The coal will be burned, and more is forming right now. It's an endless cycle--we do not matter to it AT ALL.

Global warming? HA! So why did the US just record the COLDEST year since they started keeping records?

It's all about the money--the global takeover--and the fact that BO is selling us down the drain. Did you know that that $12 a week will get used up next year because he's raising the percentage of tax? It's true--go look.

I'm simply appalled--we must get him out of office. Demand that the SCOTUS hear a few of those "natural-born citizen" cases. THEN--all of 'em will be out on their ears, we will have learned a very valuable lesson, and we can start over with a REAL election!

Joel-De
You need to go back and actually READ the Constitution! The Judicial Branch does the JUDGING--it's only real job IS to "clarify" the Constitutional Law in regard to specific issues placed before it!
Then, they must write an "opinion" stating exactly WHERE in the Constitution the rule they "found" to make their decision IS. THIS is the reason that nobody wants to touch the "natural-born citizen" cases! He is very CLEARLY NOT eligible for the office, and they would be absolutely UNable, after hearing and seeing the evidence--to try to prove that the Constitution says he is! Their solution? Don't actually HEAR any of the evidence at all! Eventually--they will have to hear them though--by the sheer weight of numbers!
Go back and READ the Constitution! It is a marvelous, God-given document; and we need to uphold it and hold it up as the highest law of this land--as it is.

EPA decided that CO2 is a "pollutent"?
I wonder why none of them ever actually took a High School Biology class--and passed it?
CO2 is what all the plants in the world USE--instead of oxygan--to PRODUCE oxygan for us air-breathers!
The very QUICKEST way for all of us to get sickly is to get rid of the CO2! CO2 production is the ONLY way to get oxygan into the atmosphere!
Are those people crazy--or just stupid??

for liberals
reality is defined by their desires. For conservatives, reality is created by their actions. Desiring something doesn't make it so. Creating something does. This is why liberals are not well grounded in reality.

Unintended Consequences
You know what is going to happen after they enact cap & trade, don't you? In the winter, people who don't already have them are going to start purchasing pot belly stoves, if they don't already have fireplaces. Stoves are more efficient. And in addition to the coal that will still be burned to produce electricity, there will also be perhaps millions of additional chimneys spewing out wood smoke. Talk about a carbon footprint.

If the feds are really concerned about pollution, they would be better off to keep the status quo of relatively clean natural gas, electricity or fuel oil, and not enact a tax that will force some people into heating their homes with wood.

Loonies
The loonies can't even agree on what will be a harm!

Insanity
Cap and Trade - Economic insanity.
Health Care "Reform" - Medical insanity.
Card Check - Labor insanity.

Each and every one of these items, if implemented in the manner which this administration proposes, augurs a death-knell for economic productivity. If ever a plan were devised to seriously dampen capitalism and impair the proper functioning of the medical profession, these proposed programs present the platform to do so. Time to wake up before it's far too late. The "tea parties" are only a small start - the "loyal opposition", Republicans, Conservatives and Independents combined, had best plan to act in concert to preserve the quality of life as we know it.

Reply to Moses - 3:29PM April 18
"Obama's Economic Illiteracy" - should get the attention of any legislator in Washington with an IQ above 50 - that probably means that we're doomed!

Tom in Georgia,
I think you are right about the wood stoves. Not to mention the extra trees cut-down to supply wood for stoves (trees that could be soaking up atmospheric carbon dioxide).

I hope all who blog here
are also writing the MSM such as they are and Congress on a daily basis because

it is only from hearing from real citizens over and over that we can stop cap and trade,

any more bailouts, the healthcare blackmail when the gov't has all of our private records,

and the degradation of our armed services is to let our *elected representatives* know

how we feel all of the time or they function according to the NYSlimes.

Go to tea parties. Rant relentlessly.

tgwWhale and others.
We Republican conservatives know and have known that the entire Global Warming aka Climate Change ALGORIAN myth is a gigantic SCAM.

As to oil, what do you think Newt Gingrich was talking about when he coined Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less, Add to that McDumDum's call for 30 new nuclear facilities as fast as they could be constructed. Even he, in his dotage, realized that we really only have two choices if we are going to have any hope of maintaining US supremecy in an increasingly scary world. We drill and develope our shale resources now and we build nukes and refineries like yeterday.

Relatively cheap and abundant energy along with American exceptionalism has been and always will be the route to our success.

Tom
"Their timing could not be worse. We are trying to climb out from under a recession coupled with unprecedented federal government allocation of money"

As I understand it, the cap-and-trade program wouldn't go into effect until 2011 at the earliest. We should be well on our way out, if not all the way out, of the recession by then.

HIT THE STREETS FOLKS

FIRE UP THE PHONES

Great article
"With Obama, it’s policy by ideology; not reason."

Yes, our dear leader is a true believer in all the wrong things.

Frey, cap and trade in 2011
Actually this worries me a bit more. Pass a law and then not have to face the consequences at the ballot box.

There is something to your point, but I also think that the uncertainty about the system and rules will do a lot to stifle business. Who would want to start any type of business relying on energy and fuel if they don't know what the taxes will be? The effects of this will be felt long before the law is signed.

Ticket to Totalitarianism
Of COURSE it's driven by ideology, specifically the ideology of totalitarian statism. It's about artificially creating energy shortages & rationing so we have to go to Mommy Government for more & more of our daily needs.

When they talk about 'conservation,' it's code for 'doing without.' It's code for 'rationing.' The insidious thing is that there is about a decade lag on power plant construction; the real cost, in terms of 'rolling blackouts' of goofing around will hit after Barry, & much of the current Dem Congresspersons are gone.

Signs that THEY don't really believe it, but just milk it for their own empowerment:

We can't develop nuclear power, belatedly, to supply more power without CO2, even though France has done it quite well & very safely. We've still got "China Syndrome."

Where are the super-rich 'libs' investing their OWN hard-ready in solar & wind generating plants? If it were a viable proposition, they could sell power to the utilities & make tidy profits. Apparently they can't, so they don't. Instead it's all about the taxpayer & the established utilities being forced to piddle with these things.

In fact, I see little in the "stimulus" about siting & building these things, either. Wouldn't that be a no-brainer?

Red China has floated the notion that their customers (us) rather than they themselves should have to offset the CO2 they emit bruning coal making stuff to export to us. If the elite statists go for this, it will prove they don't believe it themselves, but just want to reduce the USA to totalitarianism & economic serfdom.

An inflationary tax...
Passing a cap and trade rip-off of America, regardless of when they schedule it to take place, will be nothing more than time, what businesses do remain in America will need to move off shore to a more business friendly nation.

Likely a commie nation very similar to the one these neo-Marxist here are working to erect within out borders.

You talk about an inflationary tax that will hit the folks on the bottom of the totem pole the hardest....

$3000 a year my foot...Wait until all the grocery stores, gas stations, and any service provider (for this is all that will remain) has to load the cost of their new energy tax on your goods and services cost to you.

Drop your pants, bend over, grab your ankles, and prepare to receive what all these neo-Marxist DemwitOCrap minions have been receiving for years now.

Eliminate co2?
Larger amounts of co2 would present an opportunity to increase growth of any number of a variety of plants. Why is the government so fixed on eliminating rather than using the co2? This maybe an opportunity for low income areas to develop floral types to be sold in more prosperous nations. Create more lumber for funiture and houses. There are interesting possibilities being developed for algae.
Where are the programs to take advantage of what's given.

Green house gas
If eliminating green house gases is an important issue then we should embark on a program to put all waten in underground aquifers. Water vaper is the number one green house gas.

All the nations swimming pools could be filled in and planted with co2 consuming plants.

Let's take the problem seriously and eliminate excess co2. By the way how much co2 is excess?

Yes, Mickey
From the land of fruits and nuts of the left coast to the union strongarming of MI, IL, NJ, NY and New England there have been enough minions to maintain the dim/lib fantasy of high taxes, no growth nirvana. However they've been living off the govt teat and that will soon be evaporating just like the wealth that Oblaba and the dims just insured from the stock market devaluation by squeezing that teat shut. Cap and trade is the next rung in this "tax em out of business" agenda and don't worry about the jobs because there will be plenty of green (money for us and jobs for you-NOT). But if there aren't any jobs and energy cost have driven up the price of everything from food to vehicle maintenance to heating/cooling don't worry because we've got a welfare plan for you.

People listen up. You have to get to people in your district to wise up. There is no recovery plan. This is an experiment by a lightweight neoMarx. Hey that sounds good. Our new tag word for the anti-neocon crowd. The plan is to tax us into submission for all the fantasy boondoggles of bloated bureaucrats past. Look at the govt jobs and union jobs and academia tenure jobs and judge jobs and minority activist jobs and you will get the picture.

2nd Verse
What is wrong with this picture? All those jobs are paid by you. And how do you pay for them? By working at a company that can afford to make a profit. If you look at the lib list from part 1 you notice that the ones at the top plus their rich cronies in Hollyweird and pmm (Propaganda Media Machine aka msm) are making plenty of money and keep their underlings banking on "their" system. If you put a pencil to it you can probably make the case that this group's taxes make up about 30% of their pay (unless there are more Geitners out there than we know). We already know Teddy skims about $600K off his annual trust and salaries. But the other 70% is footed by the middle class and businesses. And most businesses pass it on if they can.

This whole fiasco has been painted as an either/or with no middle ground. The fact is that the government is broken and fat and Oblaba is feeding it on a twinkie/dingdong diet. And he's getting plenty of help from every dim but a few Democrats that are showing some fear. Republicans aren't conservative enough for me but I'm willing to let them debate but the libs don't want debate. They're wrong on subsidizing illegals even the criminal element, they're wrong on energy/climate when 6 billion use oil/nuclear/coal every day, wrong on taxes because it costs jobs and middle class way of life and wrong on foreign policy with commies and cutthroats. If that message can't stir up people for 2010 than we're doomed.

environMENTALists are terrorists . . .
with a misguided goal of human destruction that they feel benefits the planet (for them alone). They are too stupid to see that they are being manipulated by marxists in their own organizations (sierra club, fund for animals, greenpeace) as well as the marxists running the government. It's about CONTROL using other people's money. These environMENTAL organizations are so flush with money that they could purchase land to make it off-limits to humans. Instead they use the power of government to seize land from lawful owners by invoking environMENTAL laws such as the "endangered species act". Look at the "lynx fur hoax" that was perpetrated (and was almost successful) by government "scientists". Their "limp" wrists only got slapped whan they got caught.
environMENTALists are like children who cannot discern fantasy from reality. The "disneyfication of animals (where animals are given human characteristics such as human empathy) is responsible for much of the stupidity that these supposed "educated" persons exhibit.
Scientific "truth" is often sacrificed on the altar of "government funding". One only has to look at the "global warmimg" (oops, I mean "climate change") hoax that is about to be unleashed on us with the messiah's "cap and trade" system (of which algore is a major player).
Viva la revolucion.

Origins of Obama's policies
Can we not see that Obama is radically pursuing the mandates of Agenda 21, the UN protocol signed onto by the US at the Earth Summit in Rio, 1992?

In '93, Clinton by Exec. Order established the President's Council for Sustainable Development, and Al Gore took the ball and ran with it. He wrote the environmental bible – Earth in the Balance - stating changes the USA would have to make to fulfill the US’s promise to lead the way in satisfying the mandates of the UN protocol for restoring the earth.

By now you are saying, this writer is crazy. Watch the video Agenda 21(link at end) and do some research. Read Gore’s book and ask how much is becoming reality. McCaslin’s article has stopped short – but is on the right track. Put the pieces together. That is what this administration is doing. Pieces of the puzzle have been created over the last few decades, and now, using “climate change” as a cover and a blind since 1992, the next step needed was to find a President with such appeal the populace would accept anything unquestioned.

The actual plan for the future of the US was detailed in an 87 page special publication distributed to environmental activist groups. The title was “The Wildlands Project.” Editor John Davis said in his chapter, “WE Role in the Wildlands”: “Wild Earth’ exists in part to remind conservationists that in the long run all lands and waters should be left to the whims of Nature, not to the selfish desires of one species which chose for itself the misnomer ‘Homo sapiens’, humanizing of landscapes must stop now and be reversed.”

Summarizing his thoughts on the Plan, Davis concludes, “[d]oes all the foregoing mean that Wild Earth and The Wildlands Project advocate the end of industrial civilization? Most assuredly.”

GM and Energy Policy
Now that the government has taken over General Motors, the Chevy Volt can be built, because the issue of financial viability has been taken off the table. The issue is no longer viability; the issue is now subsidizability. The Volt will be built --- subsidized by the American taxpayer. GM will be forced to build it, and people will be given tax credits to buy it. Long live the Union of Soviet States of America.

George, on target.
You understand about sustainable development and Al Gore’s bible on the subject.?

Would you agree that this intervention by gov’t into auto makers affairs is in part fulfillment of Al’s prophecies? End of the combustion engine by 2017?

So the Volt is to be America’s folksvag?n (Volkswagen) the people’s car? Sort of a play on names, isn’t it?

The Cap-Tax HSM On The Economy

Last Thursday, this Administration implemented its first part of Cap-n-Tax through new EPA regulations.

They are deciding right now on whether to spend TRILLIONS of DOLLARS to POSSIBLY launch a MISSILE to THRUST POLLUTION into the ATMOSPHERE to CURB GLOBULLCRAP WARMING.

The Gorelegionists are convinced that sea levels will rise 6 inches in the near future and that Caribbean destruction will wipe out California. They also, evidently, believe that Christopher Colombus used Hummers to pull his Galleons through the ocean.

Obviously, we will all be better off living in caves, pulling meat off the bone with our teeth and watching Russia aim missiles at us. Not!

Yes, the Cap-n-Tax to curb crapbull energy policies is a heat, seeking missile aimed at the economic heart of America. Also, none of them will make one iota of difference on how China or India decides to drive its economies.
