Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Last week, a UK judge ruled that “An Inconvenient Truth” - Al Gore’s Oscar winning documentary – was packed with so many errors and exaggerations that it can only be shown in schools if it is accompanied with guidance notes that will allow teachers to balance Gore’s “one-sided” analysis.

In the ruling, Justice Michael Burton of the High Court in London listed nine specific instances where Gore’s claims were wrong and were presented in “the context of alarmism and exaggeration.”

The ruling was a result of an effort to block the Government’s attempt to include the film in the British school system curriculum.

Assigning a motivation for the distortion, a BBC report concluded Gore made the movie one-sided to deny skeptics any opportunity to challenge the relationship between human activity and global warming.

Even though the political agenda behind “An Inconvenient Truth” is now exposed, it’s hard to estimate the damage caused by Gore’s alarmism. To what degree has public opinion been molded by the film’s shock and awe deception and exaggeration? How many individuals were motivated to take political and social action because of the films false claims of impending doom?

Fear not only sells newspapers and contributes to movie sales but it also affects those in positions of power – especially those who are concerned with public image. Among the most susceptible to these fears are CEOs who don’t want to be held responsible for climatic catastrophe.

This is particularly true for CEOs who are under the corporate social responsibility (CSR) spell. Because CSR requires companies to take responsibility for their environmental footprint – direct and indirect consequences of its business practices beyond legal requirements – global warming policies are a litmus test for a “responsible” company.

Unfortunately for shareholders and advocates of limited government, frightened CEOs make bad business decisions, many of which also contribute to the growth of government. Take for example the consequences of PepsiCo’s global warming strategy.

Under the leadership of Indra K. Nooyi, President and CEO of PepsiCo, the company has gone over the CSR deep end. “Performance with a Purpose” is PepsiCo’s sound bite to describe its role in society. According to Ms. Nooyi, this means, “delivering superior financial performance at the same time we improve the world.”

Playing its part to save the planet from “impending doom”, PepsiCo is leading the charge in promoting global warming fears. Just this year, the company sponsored Al Gore’s Live Earth concerts and it joined the United States Climate Action Partnership (USCAP) – a group of corporations and environmental special interest groups that are “calling for the federal government to enact national legislation to achieve significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.”

The problem for PepsiCo is social pressure from global warming fears is harming Aquafina – the nation’s top selling brand of bottled water.

Responding to the populist theme of combating global warming, elected officials are pursuing efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of bottled water.

The mayor of San Francisco justified a ban on the purchase of bottled water by the city government stating, “As the city advances its Local Climate Action Plan to combat global warming, it is paramount that we initiate policies that limit the most significant contributions to climate change.”

The mayor said that the annual use of plastic water bottles by U.S. consumers “required about 47 million gallons of oil, the equivalent of one billion pounds of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere.”

San Francisco is not an isolated case. Salt Lake City Mayor Ross (Rocky) Anderson prompted the U.S. Conference of Mayors to adopt a resolution to promote tap water as a way to limit greenhouse gas emissions.

Special interest groups are also targeting bottled water. Corporate Accountability International recently launched ‘‘Think Outside the Bottle” – a nationwide campaign to discourage bottled water consumption.

Ironically, the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), one of PepsiCo’s “partners” in USCAP, is a leading critic of bottled water. A NRDC water specialist recently said, “No one should be drinking bottled water and thinking they're doing something good for the planet.”

Most disturbingly, Ms. Nooyi is keeping her shareholders in the dark about the impact of global warming regulation on PepsiCo.

For example, in its 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), PepsiCo acknowledges high-energy prices are a business risk but it fails to disclose that global warming regulation will bring about a significant increase in energy prices. PepsiCo also fails to mention that global warming alarmism is a threat to its brands.

Not only is PepsiCo’s global warming strategy hurting its business, it also threatens to undermine the public policy goal of limited government. In addition to harming the economy, a Kyoto Protocol type cap-and-trade regulatory scheme would create a massive growth in government.

Politically, onerous legislation can only pass Congress with lobbying support from business – special interest groups alone don’t have the muscle to get laws passed. By participating in USCAP, PepsiCo is increasing the likelihood of regulation.

Fueled by a distortion of reality we are witnessing the gradual destruction of capitalism at the hands of CEOs, social activists, power hungry politicians and Hollywood. On the 50th anniversary of “Atlas Shrugged”, the real inconvenient truth is watching Ayn Rand’s words become reality.

Crabbed and Pathetic
Free market extremists are so bent on the absurd notion that corporate profit is the be all and end of existence that they can't see the world whole. Of course Aquafina and other bottled waters are, in most situations, frivolous products with negative environmental impacts. For people who need to carry water on the go, tap water in a thermos bottle is just fine. If they have concerns about the purity of their local water supply, home filters are readily available.

Even worse is Pepsi's main product---high-fructose corn syrup and a little flavoring, sold in a one-time-use non-returnable plastic bottle, and marketed vigorously to fat children who are getter fatter and experiencing unprecedented levels of adult-onset diabetes.

In the free-market extremist world, things like negative environmental impacts and sick children carry little sway as long as the shareholders are happy, pesky citizen activists stay out of the way, CSR does not intrude, and the government does not regulate for the public good. What a narrow, crabbed, pathetic world view.

To johninoregon
So how do you fix free market folly? Remove everybody's choices? Ban everything unhealthy? Nationalize Pepsi? Declare high-fructose corn syrup unconsitutional?

What an autocratic, dictatorial, patriarchal world view.

Let's face facts: if people don't care to make wise choices neither you nor the federal government can compel them. That won't stop foolish ideologues from trying, of course.

GloBULL "Warming" is A HOAX anyhow
Anyone with two brain cells to rub together can see by examining the "evidence" of "gloBULL warming" that it's all lies, and that man did not cause it and can not control it.

"Greenhouse gases" are naturally occuring gases and there is no way we can control them, no matter what we do.
The so called "experts" on "gloBULL warming" keep trying to tell us that it's the result of our civilization and cars and truck, but yet will totally disregard absolute proof that the explosions of both the Krakatoa Volcano in the late 19th century, and Mt. St. Helens' in the 1980, EACH, by themselves, put more "greenhouse gases" into the atmosphere than man could have done in the entire recorded history of mankind on this planet.
This "gloBULL warming" BULLSH1T is nothing more than an attempt by anti-capitalist leftists to destroy industry and gain more control over our lives, as Ms. Nooyi is now finding out the hard way.
But since I don't like Pepsi anyhow, I say good riddance to them. It's just too bad so many innocents have to suffer for her/their stupidity.

Reinforcements On the Way
Al Gore may not be a climatologist, I think he needs some backup. Non-experts may fail to adequately defend anthropogenic climate change, but the true experts won't.

If you think you have some "argument" against Anthropogenic climate change, then go here:

http://www.realclimate.org/

This is website run by actual, well-respected research climatologists. They will set you straight.

Here are responses to common contrarian arguments:

http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2004/12/index /#Responses

Here is another:

http://gristmill.grist.org/skeptics

Good Luck

To BillyBob
Sen. Gore's problem is not that he is inexpert at defending anthropogenic global warming -- it is that he felt himself justified to LIE; and others feel justified to defend his lies.

As for your climatologists: they still cannot figure out what caused the Medieval Warm, nor the Little Ice Age. They still are depending on measurements that are inaccurate or incompetently taken:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/science/article227 4346.ece

And let us not forget that your own dear scientists are continually changing their 'truths':
http://www.heartland.org/Article.cfm?artId=9638
http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=2f4cc 62e-5b0d-4b59-8705-fc28f14da388

I don't deny that anthropogenic global warming MAY be occuring. I just contend that scientists who still can't figure out past climate changes don't understand the system well enough to make any credible statements; that the process of providing the data they require is incomplete, inefficient and often inaccurate, and that today's scientific 'truth' too often becomes tomorrow's scientific joke.

Resp to Billybob on climate Change
Billybob I have been to the site. It did not convince me. It plays loose with the evidence.
The truth is the earth has been warming and cooling for eons. So says reasonable science.

I looked at refutation of the Greenland account of Vikings. In the Gristmill account describing Erik the Red’s landing in Greenland it says “It likely was a bit warmer when he landed for the first time than it was when the last settlers starved due to a number of factors -- climate change, or at least some bad weather, a major one.” This is the very site that you claim supports man made climate change saying in the time of the Vikings there was climate change. http://gristmill.grist.org/story/2006/12/13/22437/993

This is from the very website that Billybob claims is reliable and supports “Anthropogenic climate change” . The site then attempts to discredit anyone using Greenland as an example of non-manmade climate change by stating that anyone claiming Greenland was going through climate change long before manmade greenhouse gases were a factor claims , and I quote “When the Vikings settled it, Greenland was a lovely, hospitable island, not the frozen wasteland it is today. It was not until the Little Ice Age that it got so cold they abandoned it.”

Well I don’t know anyone that claims Greenland was ever lush and hospital. But the fact is that in areas that are now permafrost there was grain and corn crops that could not have been there if there had not once been a warmer climate.

Now as I stated on other posts, this in no way means man is not a contributor to climate change, and cleaning up the environment is Always a good thing.

Comment here or on my blog if you would like to discuss this. (yes that is another shameless plug for my blogs lol)

An Inconvenient exposure?
Did Big Al just moon us?

Big Al has joined his
buddy Bill in being an ajudicated liar. Pepsi is just another example of a large company being steered in the wrong direction because of internal PC politics. That is unless their board knows something that we do not know. Perhaps they have a few of the AGW politicians in their back pockets so when the "caps" are allocated they will be on top and they can "sell" CO2 offsets instead of bottled water, both are about the same thing...a useless product marketed on the premise of public stupidity.

Not long ago...
... I had the privilege of glancing at an article in the tabloids (written by some wingnut, as usual) predicting that the next Civil War in the United States would be over the supply of drinking water.

Now, with the Southeast gripped by a nasty drought, I'm beginning to wonder whether that wingnut may have been on to something...

GW
Yes their is global warming. And we know where its coming from. It's that dog gone big yollow thing up in the sky. Now you'll have to excuse me while I go ride my big old CO2 belching motorcycle.

MISSING LINK
Before the NY Times of Algoreasaurus, Kerryassaurus, Newsweekassaurus, Timemagassaurus, there existed the big search for “Missing Link”. Every four to six months one of the major purveyors of ink on a platter would announce the latest discovery in the darkest of dark dark Africa another ape like fossil remains that would prove beyond a reasonable doubt Darwin’s Theory of Evolution. During the then war of the scientific skeptics it was necessary to have a museum thing somewhere which would be the symbol par excellence convincing all believers in Alien Abductions and/or Christian Genesis thinking that good ole ground earth evolution developed Joe Sixpack as well as Albert Einstein; but, what these Evol-Believers needed more than ever before was an exemplar primo a primo of a stand erect pre-historic ape with the mental quick that could play Scrabble. After several years this quasi-competition between the various news media which then included the NBC Today Show with David Garraway and J Fred Muggs evolved where the energetic search for “Missing Link” faded away into who cares already oblivion. Horrors happen when stock options, bonuses, and pay raises scream for a new catalyst into the financial stratosphere thus preserving the variant existence of these dancing dinosaurs sending their offspring off to Yale and summering at Quaque that they create the need for Global Warming – Climate Change.

COOLING OR WARMING?
YES.Cooling and warming, and cooling, then warming, then cooling, then....

If you own Pepsico stock...
...dump it fast, while you can. That political ideologue is using YOUR money to support HER ideology.

free markets are best
Free market extremists? Silly talk from Oregon. If you think free markets are bad, try not-free markets. Such markets are the least efficient... i. e. most wasteful... markets. I defy you to find a contradictory example.

The reason Aquafina has a market, a huge market, for it products is that governments have not atisfied their constituents that the publicly supplied and delivered water (tap water, for example) is safe and healthy.

The real problem at hand is that we have no good way yet of accounting for the negative externalities of making water bottles, shipping, storing, recylcing, or disposing of the same.

I wonder what the externalities of tap water are?

save me
Please help me johninoregon, I have this uncontrolable urge for coffe and some trans fats! Please vote for comrad hillary, so me and my family no longer need to think for ourselves!Uh oh i can hear the bacon calling my name! Eat me, drink sugary beverages!!Oh God when will this end!!Save me comrad!!

Ex- Politicians
When politicians vote to raise taxes and destroy jobs they become ex-politicians. This is what will occur if the anti warming agenda is implimented. The politicians that understand the dynamics of this reality will stay in office. Those that push policies that damage the economy will be finding other employment.

What should the temp be?
The Paleocene era was 25 degrees warmer. What should the earth’s temperature be and how do we know that it should not be 25 degrees warmer?

Globull "warming" is a comparative phrase. Warming compared to what? Not compared to its prior temperature.

The entire globull scam is based on the premise that today represents earth's perfect and normal temperature. This is statistically insane when we look over the history of earth, but is politically brilliant when the present man in the street compares everything to his reality of today for temperature.

I wonder what Algur’s strategy would have been to lower the temperature 25 degrees during the Paleocene era?

"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed -- and hence clamorous to be led to safety -- by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary." “A plan to save humanity is almost always a false front for the urge to rule.” H.L Mencken

Trulib
Call me cynical but I just don't believe that anymore. The politicians have "fixed" the elections with McShame-Findsumgold and gerrymandering of the districts so that it is virtually impossible to overturn an incumbent. Currently if you are an incumbent any election is yours to lose. You really have to mess up big as a Republican to be ousted and NOTHING will oust a Communist(D) in a safe district (just look at cold cash Jefferson). The number of competitive districts gets lower every year.

Kennedy and his pals in MA have been behind every tax increase in the past 40 years and he continually get reelected. My prediction is that he will be in office until his liver finally gives out. That is one good thing about him, he’ll never live as long as old Strom did.

Stupid, stupid, stupid
"...the annual use of plastic water bottles by U.S. consumers “required about 47 million gallons of oil, the equivalent of one billion pounds of carbon dioxide that is released into the atmosphere.”"

The polymers used to make plastic bottles are BY-PRODUCTS of refining crude into gasoline. If we weren't using it to make plastic products we'd have to throw it out (despoil the earth with it).

Stupid.

The refining process that separates the polymers from the gasoline is going to happen whether people drink bottled water not, so there is no additional CO2 released into the atmosphere.

Stupid.

Doing the math, in order for "47 million" gallons of crude to release "1 billion" pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere each gallon of crude would have to contain enough carbon to produce more than 21 pounds of CO2. Even combining a carbon molecule with two oxygen molecules this is highly unlikely since a gallon of crude weighs less than 10 pounds total.

More importantly, the whole purpose of refining crude is to separate the carbon-based liquids used to make gasoline, deisel and other fuels from the by-products that are used to make things like water bottles. That means almost none of the carbon in a gallon of crude goes into plastic (has Gavin Newsom ever wondered why plastic MELTS more than it burns - I doubt it). so how are water bottles putting CO2 into the air?

Stupid.

Gavin Newsom - stupid.

Rocky Anderson - stupid.

Al Gore - stupid.

Anyone who lets these three stooges tell them how to run a for-profit business - stupid, stupid, stupid.

Finally, for Johninoregon. Profit is what has made our economy the most prosperous in human history. The same libs who decry the "greed" of the "rich" idiotically think these selfish and greedy people will perform at the same level for charity.

Stupid.

pepsi
I have been a life long drinker of pepsi-cola and after I read about pepsi being in bed with the worst polotian in the history of America (al gore) I have decided not to buy any more pepsi products. There, I feel better already!

One thing more
Why are these eco-whackos only going after bottled water?

Every Pepsi I've drank in the last ten years has come in a plastic bottle too.

Sgt Relic,

LOL

This article made me want to say : " Where's my Coca-Cola?"

Dolly Dear
When Democrats are in power they raise taxes, lower economic incentives, and make everything more expensive. Why, then, should people who vote for Democrats not be assessed at a higher tax rate to pay for all of this?

Dolly guess the memo missed is
that when it comes to the law judges trump editorials every time.

Dolly-Yammerer
As soon as you can prove any of your stupid allegations someone may listen to you.

doug: You broke the rule!!!!!

DO NOT, under any circumstances respond to the dolly.

It will just stay on the thread, mucking it up for hours, or maybe all day!

And I got in big trouble last week for not warning EVERYBODY about the dolly....

So, EVERYBODY, consider yourselves warned!

Dolly
Your process for environmental cleanup is the same argument made for a number of things the government involves itself in. The problem with politicians of all stripes is they use that argument to extract funds from citizens through user fees and taxes and then instead of actually doing somehting about the supposed problem they use the money to buy votes to maintain their positions of power. Our Founding Fathers knew this would happen which is why they attempted to limit the power of government.

Anne
Sorry, I type slow, missed the warning. Will endeavour to do better in the future.

TruLib: You are soooo cooool! :-)
.

Aw shoot Anne
its so hard sometimes, Its early and I havent had coffee? uhh okay I got it... I know every one else has tried having discussions with it but hey its like communism, everybody else failed becouse nobody has the unique genious of me?.........NO how about I messed up and please forgive me. I even posted to Gretske's blog on the subject.

oh boy did it loose the post?
I posted but lets see whered it go

wiseone
Great post, won't really matter though. people like Dollylame will never get it.

By the same token, the switch to alternative fuel requires a massive investment in infrastructure, which is in itself rendered almost impossible by the wasteful war in Iraq. Again, as the markets cannot lead the way, government must.

Asinine just asinine...

gee having to post
again to push the last one through but anyway I also acknowledged him on another thread man batting a thousand......uh gotta go feed the horses they saw the light on in the house and will keep bellowing every fifteen minutes til fed.

Alternative Fuels and power sources

Many of the options for alternative energy have been fought,

Nuclear has been fought,
Wind power has been fought in MA and CA but is welcome in TX and NM.
Ethanol is now being fought because it uses corn.

I wonder if we can use cow and horse manure. No on second thought, politicians need that for their platforms.

SMART MOVE
Indra K. Nooyi, NOT! What happens if we return to glass so you can pound your corporate chest and then people find out how much heat from gas ovens it takes to make glass containers? What the heck will you do then? Maybe you can import coconuts and fill them. I see little difference because you are NUTS! I am glad I do not own any of the stock, I would trade it in a heartbeat for oil futures. HEY! Maybe you can buy a million dollars worth of carbon footprint vouchers a year from uncle bore. Think of what that will do for the environment! Nothing, that’s what!

If we can not have security FIRST, the rest won’t matter!
HUNTER /Tancredo 2008!
http://www.gohunter08.com

Packrat
Who's funding the fight? Were I OPEC I would be funneling cash to selected environmental groups. They would push programs with no hope of success and fight those that offered the most. Ethanol is being pushed because it uses as much fuel as it produces. Hydrogen offers a lot as an energy transfer system. Nuclear as the power source for that system makes the most sense. With the warming scare opening a window for us we may be able to get some plants built.

WORKERS UNITE
WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE - YOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE BUT GLOBAL WARMING STUPIDITY!

Global warming impacts
Just keep an eye on global waming impacts. If global warming is pneumonia it is now in the chills and fever stage. One thing they have warned about the spread of diseases, it is happening in Europe. Cattle and sheep viruses from Africa have now spread into Europe killing thousand of cows and sheep. Since it has never been in that part of the world before there is no means of controlling it.
Heat waves dropped agriculture production by 10 percent in Europe last year. This summer's down pours and floods in the mid west destroyed crops and ruined hay that was cattle food for the winter . That will ultimately impact our food supplies.
Georgia is in the grips of a record breaking drought and the lake that supplies Atlanta is due run dry about mid winter. See the severe water restrictions they have imposed. Give it a few years and see what we have to deal with as we continue to delay reducing our C02 emissions. Once climate change comes knocking on your doors, you no doubt you will be screaming for the government to do something.. but by your definition gov. should keep its nose our of your lives.

solar system warming
It is known that ALL the planets in our solar system are affected by solar (global) warming.
Maybe we can get the industries on Mars and other planets to cap their emissions and get their drivers to swap their SUVs for more environmentally responsible vehicles.

CO2 Bad???
Pepsi-co battles with the complexities of balancing their business interests with environmental concerns while everyone debates the relative harm that may occur from their use of plastic bottles. So why is it that we have yet to hear the enviro-weenies launch an attack on the soft drink industry for CARBONATING!! their beverages? I haven't heard a peep. Anyone? Certainly there must be a huge amount of CO2 released into the atmosphere from these drinks. What about beer? Oh my god, the humanity!!!

The reason you don't hear hysterical rants from the demented ones about this horrific source of CO2 "pollution" is that there is no symbolic reason to do so. Attacking such evil manifestations of rampant capitalism as the oil indusry satisfies this need. Why else would we have to hear about the environmental disaster caused by the farts of "agricultural" animals? Wild animals or even humans are never mentioned, are they? Raising farm animals is, of course, a cruel and inhumane practice. It's horrors are exceeded only by the actual eating of our fellow citizens of planet earth. That source of CO2 is therefore bad.

The whole AGW issue would never have reached such a fevered pitch, and Uncle Albert would not have produced his little fantasy film if he had succeeded in stealing the 2000 election. In the late 90's the Senate unanimously proclaimed that there was no way that they would sign on to the Kyoto Treaty for the very same reasons that GWB has not signed. Therefore Clinton never sent it to be ratified by the Senate. It was not a big issue back then. The sole reason that AGW is the huge issue that it is right now, is that there is a Republican president in the Whitehouse to blame. Period!!

BTW, for the benefit of the mouth-breathers out there, I am a conservative and I care about the environment, as the vast majority of my fellow conservatives do. We are opposed to environmental wackoism, not responsible environmental practices.

screw
the environment. There is no "the environment". There are thousands of "environments". My current environment is my office.

I haven't liked Pepsico for years, ever since their insulting commercials suggesting only old people drank America's soft drink, Coca-cola.

My preferred drink is Coca-cola in the 8 oz GLASS bottles. Coke tastes best under glass. Until very recently, I could buy them at Sam's club. We have a Coca-cola bottling plant right here in OK City.

Last time I went to Sam's, the only glass-bottled coke I could find was 12 oz MADE IN MEXICO bottles. My friend said I should get it because it uses sugar, not corn syrup, and so it was healthier. I pointed out to him that it was made in Mexico, so how could it be healthier? Probably has rat-urine in it. Besides, why would I ever buy Mexican when we have a bottling plant right here??

As for globular warming... the Earth heats up. This heats the atmosphere. What happens when the atmosphere heats? It expands. When it expands, it has a much larger radiating surface. So it releases more heat into space. This may cause a thinning of the ozone layer, which might could develop "holes" in certain areas. this also increases the rate of heat emission. Self-healing wound, so long as ecophreaks don't go picking at it.

PS - Aquafina
tastes NASTY. I far prefer Ozarka, which I get in 5 gallon plastic bottles for my water bottle machine, from which I refill my 16 oz Ozarka plastic bottles.

If there's a drought in the Southeast, the answer is not to conserve, or to badmouth mankind; the answer is to build desalinization plants. Good Lord, the planet is mostly covered in water, in places miles deep. It's stupid to whine about droughts with the power resources at our disposal.

Dolly - the sun has gone out
Can you tell me, Dolly, where all the neutrinos have gone to?

Why continue with crazy policies?
To keep warm this winter, I can (A)buy a lot of fuel from Hugo Chavez and the Saudis, or (B) hire American workers to insulate my house and buy less fuel. If I choose (B), I pay 14%+ social security tax out of every dollar I spend. If I choose (A), I don't. Obvious answer: cut tax on(B), raise tax on (A) to make up lost revenue if necessary. Also, dump the income tax and replace with VAT. Get rid of government subsidies and "incentives" (politicians' slush funds) and let the market work. Make America independent of the foreign thugs; no cost; more jobs. Also has the side effect of reducing CO2 emissions. We don't need to know whether CO2 is causing warming, because the right policies which would reduce CO2 emissions are good for our economy in other ways.

UK court says Gore is a fraud
UK court says Gore is a fraud. August 2007 Update: Man-made Catastrophic Global Warming Not True. In order to be an intelligent reader you must have a basic knowledge. Please do your own homework; a starting point http://www.InteliOrg.com/ further, flawed NASA Global Warming data paid for by George Soros.

Arrogance
I think it is the height of arrogance to claim that we humans are responsible for any warming that is taking place. Climate change goes in cycles. The normal activities of nature will cause warming and cooling alternately. I have nothing against responsible actions against pollution and yes we need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. But I fear this AGW thing is a scam meant to bring us closer to socialism. Indeed as some posters have indicated why did the Senate not ratify Kyoto back when Clinton was president. Don't blame Bush when even the previous president wouldn't act. I think minky raises a good point. If Gore had won in 2000 we wouldn't even be hearing about global warming. Congatulations to him on his Oscar and Nobel Peace Prize. Any takers on a bet that he will jump into the 2008 race. Hillary must be a little worried right now.

Gore
Did anyone else see the party the Goreacle had in Phoenix after he won the Nobel prize?
Everything on the menu, was something exotic that had to be flown in from other countries. wonder how big a carbon footprint that left?

What a maroon!!

Also anyone with half a brain, can look throughout history and see that the earth has always warmed and cooled naturally.

What A Delemma
On one hand the elite want to save the world. On the other hand, they love their bottled water (one of the things that helps make them elite).

Maybe they can simply follow "St. Albert's" example and preach about "global warming" while leaving it up to the "little people" to make the sacrifices.

Fair and Balanced ain't
When any news/talk show say's it's presenting a 'fair and balanced' discussion because it has an equal representation of guests (usually 1 to 1), I would submit that is in fact not fair or balanced.

Generally, in an effort to get ratings a show or network will use the most inflammatory subject matter that they can possibly call newsworthy. This results in an aboundance of extreme opinions and situations being presented as news. For instance, take the case of the 11 year-olds getting birth control pills at school story.
Should this strory be considered news- absolutely!

My problem comes when a host of a program presents the situation and then solemnly intones " we will have a fair and balanced discussion" on the topic where one sane rational expert is pitted against a WACKO. Then both the sane and the whacko positions are presented as though the are EQUAL!!!!!

This Idiot=Sane politically weighted panel discussion automatically gives the completely ridiculous and insane position equal stature with the sane and rational.

This totally stupid idea of 'fair and balanced ' is ruining our country!

Wake up folks if you want fair and balanced then give some weight to widely held opinions by having 8 or 10 sane rational folks to every one crazy! PLEASE.

And this changes the political discourse in this country. That is why totally crazy ideas, morals, philosophies, religions, and mores come to be regarded as EQUALLY RATIONAL POLITICAL thought , though such ideas are held by tiny minorities of WACKOs.

"To keep warm this winter, I can (A)buy a lot of fuel from Hugo Chavez and the Saudis, or (B) hire American workers to insulate my house and buy less fuel. If I choose (B), I pay 14%+ social security tax out of every dollar I spend."

Let me fix that for you...

"to keep warm this winter, i can A) buy a lot of fuel from Oklahoma which produces a lot of natural gas, or B) hire a company employing illegal aliens to insulate my house. If i choose B) I put nothing into social security, since they are illegal aliens."

There ya go. Fixed that for you.

Hubris
It's all hubris. I'm sure that Al could convince the population that if we all jumped up in the air simultaneously we could make the earth lighter.

mrs. Paddy: Right on!

I'm still loving you bumper sticker idea....

"I (heart) My Carbon Footprint!"

Just makes my day every time I think about it. One for the front bumper and one for the rear! :-) Annoying liberals coming and going! LOL

I'm just amazed beyong words that there are those who still actually believe this crap! The evidence WAS NEVER there to support this hoax to begin with.

How could anyone with two functioning brain cells actually buy into this?

Wait, there's the answer! Those who have bought into it DON'T actually have two functioning brain cells!

There you have it! :-)

Parody #2
To the tune of Sleigh Ride

Just hear those Al Gore Followers
Quick to swallow his line
Come on it's just the weather
Not a climate catastrophy sign.

Don't need those carbon offsets
Or sign the Kyoto Pact Line
Come on it's just the weather
Not a climate catastrophy sign.

We agree, we can see, going green's not bad
Just keep it in hand
No need to worry 'bout our natural land.

Don't dispair, we all care, keeping clean our share

Just don't believe all that Al calls for
He's living in fairyland.

Our land is quite remarkable
A big blue marble, so fine
Come on it's just the weather
Not a climate catastrophy sign.

Liberal brain cells are single function units. They act as spacers to keep the ears apart.

Remember...
the coming 'ice age' in the 1970's? Yup...it was 'global cooling' then. All those that said 'hogwash' to the certain ice age were called names, insulted terribly, accused of being uncaring and selfish.

Who would of thought in just 30 short years the tune would have changed to global warming? Scientist & libs were CERTAIN of the cooling that was bringing an ice age. They had 'facts' and 'truth' on their side. Now they hold the same claim of global warming with 'facts' and 'truth'...only this time respectable scientists are NOT in bed with them. A healthy number of scientests have stepped away from the claim based on other facts and truth. Go figure.

I don't know whether to break out the parka or bikini.

TruLib: Keeping their ears apart!!

Excellent observation! :-)

And, obviously they don't have to actually be functioning as anything else... just spacers!

Now that actually answers a lot of questions!

Very astute observation on your part. :-)

(Guess there's no multi-tasking going on in a liberal-idiot's head!) :-)

Globull warming
The sad simple fact is, despite all the monkey poo flung about by "dolly" and the rest of the usual barking moonbat suspects, that the majority of the people who are actually entitled to an opinion on the subject (climatologists, meterologists and the like) still say "AGW" is a crock, certainly the "A" part.

True, the average temperature of the Earth has increased by 0.7 degress centigrade. But it's been slowly increasing since the end of the "Little Ice Age", back in the early 1800s.

Indeed, the data show conclusively that the Earth has experienced wide temperature variations, not only over geologic time, but even during recorded history.

Furthermore, the data being promulgated by the AGW truthers to back up their story has enough holes in it to sink a battleship, along with falsified data, and motivations that are, um, questionable at best.

And yes, it's not just the Earth that is warming. NASA announced not long ago that it had discovered via the various space probes and other means that Mars, the moons of Jupiter and Saturn, and even little Pluto (OK, it's not a planet anymore; whatever) are warming up as well. Last I looked, there were no SUV's, coal fired power plants, or even the e-vil Halliburton on the other planets as yet. Not that this will convince the truthers, but then nothing will, since this does not fit "the narrative"...

I will be selling my Pepsi stock
This is the final straw. Pepsi has had a decent run, but Coke is back up and moving ahead. Fact is, anytime these social reform groups get a hold of these corporations, they attempt to transform them into the CSR mold. Recall when Coke was blackmailed by various minority constituencies into implementing -- with a vengeance -- various affirmative action policies? Look at what the stock did thereafter, as the corporate focus became less on profit and more on how to put up a politically correct front for the media. Pepsi is moving into the same pit, even more quickly.

Pepsi and Coke
All soft drinks are basically unhealthful trash. Drink tap water and carry bottled water only in your car or on your bike. You can also get refillable plastic bottles. Pepsi and Coke are cancers on civilization.

Gullible Warming
Anyone who actually believes in AGW has never bothered to look at the actual facts and has never developed the ability to identify cause and effect.

I'm just out of patience dealing with idiots and power-mad politicians.

POLLUTION FACTS OR FICTION?
DOLLY LLAMA writes:

The classic example of this is pollution: I make widgets for $10 each, and my cost is $5. But in making those widgets, I put effluent into a local stream, that costs $10 per unit to clean up. Why should I not be assessed a $10/unit tax, to allow for the real costs of my product?

**************************************************************
Well DOLL, if pollution is still that widespread just what the devil are we getting for our money from the EPA. How do you justify your effluent costs?

Synchronicity! Synchronicity?

Crabbed and Pathetic
"Free market extremists are so bent on the absurd notion that corporate profit is the be all and end.... What a narrow, crabbed, pathetic world view."

I was going to make a comment on the greater danger PepsoCo faced from the leftists. The threat of villification, and the cost to market share. The fact that if PepsiCo failed to comply with any demand to capitulate they would be called names, prior to their ruination.

Please, someone count the number of times leftists have been the first to post, first to name call, first to follow their Cult of Death, Cult of Fear religious dogma.

Is it just a coincidence that my first thought is the leftists first post, or are they too predictable?

Gore Bull Warming
Socialists are happy to trade being wrong for feeling good. Problem is, Stupid should hurt...but the real costs and pain are absorbed by capitalists so that no one, it seems, can feel them.

Socialism delenda est.

Cave Bear, they don't mention the fact that they point to the melting of ice that was formed during that time frame. Over two hundered years and the glaciers and ice packs formed during the little ice age are still melting.

...talking about.

I have wrpped my comments with the only responce the wacko's will have. No one ever tells them that the ice formations they see in "hysteria" videos was formed in recent history. As far as they are concerned, if no one tells them, its not true.

5 step plan to decrease Carbon footprint
Cleaning the Environment is good. Here is my plan to fund it.

1) Suspend all Earmarks for any env. group or cause, any wildlife studies, any art programs, etc. Take all these monies and do a dollar for dollar match into a single gov/large business cooperative project to convert our infrastructure to reduce greenhouse gases.
2) Al Gore funds a multi-Billion dollar voluntary donation program with the monies going to the aforementioned program. Get the large donors like Soros, Buffet, and all the Hollywood movie stars to cough up millions of their own money voluntarily to help fight greenhouse gases. For example Gore himself could donate 10-20 million. Sen Kerry another 20 million voluntary. Sean Penn, Barbara Streisand can give 5 to 10 million more. Ask Hollywood to make movies with 80% of profits voluntarily going to single project to fight greenhouse gases. Have the money go to one entity that overseas projects in areas that show results. If this is such a dire threat lots of people should donate and BIG people should donate BIG.
3) Build one new Nuclear Power plant in every state in the union in the next ten years. Goal is to have 10 new major energy producing plants in each large population state and 5 in the smaller states in next 50 years.
4) Increase research in alternative energy and recycling using money from above programs. Just stipulate that all the money for it come from an offset in current programs or private donations.
5) Windmills off prime real estate around the coast for power generation.

Why would this never work? Because people don’t want to make individual sacrifice they want you to make sacrifice. People want gov to fix things but Gov is totally inept at dealing with problems and success can only come from private enterprise. Everyone wants alternative energy but no one wants a Nuke plant in their back yard. Sen Kennedy stopped windmills being built off Mass because it was in his yard.

The size of your carbon footprint
is only important if you are buying shoes for you carbon feet.

And Algore will never donate one dime to fight greenhouse gases. Instead, he is making millions from the suckers who believe his rantings.

Pepsi
It may not be much but in my own way I do not support Pepsi. I have boycotted them (and I let people know) since they paid money for Geraldine Ferraro appear on a show they where sponsoring. I will drink tap water rather than drink Pepsi or use any of their products.

Putting the stop
on the liberal invented, man made global warming epidemic is no sweat (pun intended).

All we have to do is ban liberals from voting, put them all on collectives (they'll love the idea anyway) and take half of the money they make in taxes (they'll like that idea too) and force all liberals to use public transportation (they should be in heaven at this point).

Give every American liberal exactly what they hope for and resell their cars for their upkeep.

Its a win win win situation and global warming will cease (at least at that point we could convince the collective loving liberals it has).

If nothing else my anti warming plan would be tons of fun and a great idea for a reality show too.

Tapwater...
I for one will never drink tapwater. Just recently here in my South Florida city, we were under a boiled water notice for almost two weeks. And the city knew about the presence of fecal bacteria in the water supply a full 9 days before they let anyone know.

If the activists want to drink water that was just in someones toilet, let them go kock themselves out.

I think I need to go buy a water distiller... =/

Americans cocerned about GW!
Poll shows Americans getting more concerned about global warming

How much will this issue hurt the GOP in 08?

CNN- Most Americans blame emissions from cars and industrial plants as the primary cause of global warming and believe the United States should reduce levels even if other countries don’t, a survey shows.

Fifty-six percent of poll respondents said the phenomenon of global warming has been proven, and can be largely blamed on human endeavors, such as power plants and factories, according to the CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll.

In comparison, 21 percent of those surveyed claimed global warming problems are caused either by natural changes or are unproven.

Sixty-six percent of Americans believe the United States should do what it can to reduce global warming, even if other nations ignore it. This compares with 52 percent of respondents who believed that way in 2001.

The Mayor of San Francisco
should ban all an*l sex. Afterall, statistics show this results in a much shorter life expectancy. The science is certainly more settled here than it is on "global warming." Also, the danger is much more immediate.

Gore's Just Weird
....so totally weird. So we read this article and are reminded of the decision makers in the private sector who are falling over themselves to be politically correct and tripping themselves up, business-wise in the process. Scientific theories are just that, theories, but we keep plugging for better answers. Weird Gore, however, says "there's no room for discussion regarding global warming." So, unlike Jesus, Gore discovers something else: He's the annoited one. He's the one who says when the scientific discussion stops. Woopie, and among those dim lit followers of his are, in this country, registered voters! Now that is truly scarey!
