Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Did Senator Barack Obama's speech in Philadelphia convince people that he is still a viable candidate to be President of the United States, despite the adverse reactions to statements by his pastor, Jeremiah Wright?

The polls and the primaries will answer that question.

The great unasked question for Senator Obama is the question that was asked about President Nixon during the Watergate scandal; What did he know and when did he know it?

Although Senator Obama would now have us believe that he is shocked, shocked, at what Jeremiah Wright said, that he was not in the church when pastor Wright said those things from the pulpit, this still leaves the question of why he disinvited Wright from the event at which he announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination a year ago.

Either Barack Obama or his staff must have known then that Jeremiah Wright was not someone whom they wanted to expose to the media and to the media scrutiny to which that could lead.

Why not, if it is only now that Senator Obama is learning for the first time, to his surprise, what kinds of things Jeremiah Wright has been saying and doing?

No one had to be in church the day Wright made his inflammatory and obscene remarks to know about them.

The cable news journalists who are playing the tapes of those sermons were not there. The tapes were on sale in the church itself. Obama knew that because he had bought one or more of those tapes.

But even if there were no tapes, and even if Obama never heard from other members of the church what their pastor was saying, he spent 20 years in that church, not just as an ordinary member but also as someone who once donated $20,000 to the church.

There was no way that he didn't know about Jeremiah Wright's anti-American and racist diatribes from the pulpit.

Someone once said that a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe.

Accordingly, Obama's Philadelphia speech -- a theatrical masterpiece -- will probably reassure most Democrats and some other Obama supporters. They will undoubtedly say that we should now "move on," even though many Democrats have still not yet moved on from George W. Bush's 2000 election victory.

Like the Soviet show trials during their 1930s purges, Obama's speech was not supposed to convince critics but to reassure supporters and fellow-travelers, in order to keep the "useful idiots" useful.

Best-selling author Shelby Steele's recent book on Barack Obama ("A Bound Man") has valuable insights into both the man and the circumstances facing many other blacks -- especially those who were never part of the black ghetto culture but who feel a need to identify with it for either personal, political or financial reasons.

Like religious converts who become more Catholic than the Pope, such people often become blacker-than-thou. For whatever reason, Barack Obama chose a black extremist church decades ago -- even though there was no shortage of very different churches, both black and white -- in Chicago.

Some say that he was trying to earn credibility on the ghetto streets, to facilitate his work as a community activist or for his political career. We may never know why.

But now that Barack Obama is running for a presidential nomination, he is doing so on a radically different basis, as a post-racial candidate uniquely prepared to bring us all together.

Yet the past continues to follow him, despite his attempts to bury it and the mainstream media's attempts to ignore it or apologize for it.

Shelby Steele depicts Barack Obama as a man without real convictions, "an iconic figure who neglected to become himself."

Senator Obama has been at his best as an icon, able with his command of words to meet other people's psychic needs, including a need to dispel white guilt by supporting his candidacy.

But President of the United States, in a time of national danger, under a looming threat of nuclear terrorism? No.

Dot Lane in Mass is a ****
You can fill in your own four letter word above.

"Sort of like keeping a black conservative around the GOP so they have at least one person of color to show at the convention, right"?

Ha! I would like to see you say that to Sowell in person. Sowell is no one's set aside. He got to his position the old fashioned way.

He Earrrrrrrned it.

I've seen enough of your posts to understand that your scorn is great praise.

If I ever find you agreeing with me, I'm going to get worried.

And don't challenge me on the Bible or the Constitution. I was 1st in my class at law school, and I take theology very, very seriously.

Gotta love Boone
As you know growing up in Honolulu as a bi-racial is hardly being in a hot bed of racism. If 80% of Honolulu is not bi or multi racial I would be amazed. Hardly a place where a young Black can get his street creed. Now marrying a Black girl from the So side and joining Jeremiah's rabidly antiwhite church might get one started on a political career in Chicago's South side.

I think it is obvious to all that Barack is simply a politican who will say and do just about anything to get elected! That means doing anything from throwing your white grandmother under the bus to having your daughters sit at the feet of one of the worst race haters and race baiters in the country.

The man simply has no moral compass whatsoever! But he does want change and will bring us all together!

Sex, Race and Lousy Preachers
It matters not that BHO is a Kenyan-American, black, brown, blue, pink, white, green or whatever. BHO is a leftist, a socialist and at worst a neo-marxist like Hitlery. I have not intention of voting for him because of his POLITICS and that fact he looks more "red" to me than anything... which is why I'm not voting for Hitlery either.

Left Angle -- Frustrated and Jealous?
Or is it more likely that, given that you are completely incapable of arguing against the message, your only recourse is to attack the messenger?

Tsk.

taft and logic
do you ever take a logic course? you say whites goes to obama's church;
hence, qed, not racist

i am white and i would not go to his church except a few times out of curiosity; sowell, williams. powell, rice would not attend such a church;

nothing to do with white or black; it has to do with people who think and make intelligent choices; there are unthinking blacks and whites;

and the point is that obama made a political decision in staying in that church to get poltical traction; fine; same as jesse jackson etc;

but that is not the kind of leader thinking people want; they want people with practical solutions to problems and that means someone like
obama taking on the teacher's unions which no liberal can do and get elected; and who suffers; yeh, poor people in silly schools and especailly black people; and obama will do nothing about that because he is beholden to these special interest groups

by your comment about whites attending the church, you give away that you care more about symbols than substance

Re: Kermit The Frog
"Dr. Sowell has the right to his opinions. He is not an "Uncle Tom" or a "house negro" simply because his views are libertarian/conservative. Obama is not an "Uncle Tom" or "house negro" simply because of his views are liberal/progressive.

They have the right to think as they wish. To curtail that or trap them into predetermined stereotypical roles is beyond unfair."

Excellent comments, Ralph Ellison.

Re: Dr Sowell is jealous
LMAO@this pots. Excuse me, but why would Professor Sowell be jealous of Senator Obama? Sowell is an extremely intelligent and successful Black man in his own right. He is also an ECONOMIST and as such has no political aspirations. As for the fact that 90% of the Black race (allegedly) disagreeing with him-the fact that the majority of a group believes something does not make it right. After all, there was a time when 90% of White Southerners may have supported Slavery. Does the fact that they were a majority make them right as well? As for your house slave commenst-grow up and get a real, logical argument against conservative Blacks such as Professor Sowell. Only children eed to use insults in place of facts.

Carlos, lost in wilderness
As far as lineage goes did you ever wonder why Obama's legal daddy hot footed it back to Africa. Momma's baby, Daddy's maybe. I will wait for the DNA test. His mother seems from her choice of men, an African and then a man from Indonesia to be of a type well known to some of us from the "white" community in America. How is it that in sunny Hawaii a white girl can only find these two men with whom to fall in love? We have all seen growing up in the sixties girls whose purpose was to shock their parents and make a political statement with their choices of men. I assume she could not find a North Vietnamese man for her second marriage. If she had Barack may have spent his early life in a Buddhist Monastery instead of a Madrassah.

Even "Kansas" is a lie
His mother met his father in Hawaii. Her family moved around a lot. She was no more from Kansas than a dozen other places. Barry from Hawaii has been running not for president but from himself. No one would elect Barry from Hawaii. He had to be from Chicago. He had to remake himself as a "real" black man. Barry from Hawaii really WAS post racial. He was lost in the black area of any major city. Blacks would not have supported Barry from Hawaii. It's a long time till November. The year books, the pictures around the campfire, on the beach with his surf board and his Hawaiin shirt are coming. He is John Kerry with a tan. When authentic Black Americans see the kid from the private prep school and Harvard for what he is they will laugh at him. Just like they did when he got of the plane from Hawaii and started taking Black 101 all those long years ago. He needs a theme song. Surely there is one in the Don Ho catalog. Any suggestions?

Not so ModMark
"I doubt you would vote for an atheist and if we ever had an atheist as a candidate, he would be a Democrat. Let be a little careful concerning this intolerance thing."

There are conservative and libertarian atheists. With the right assurances, I could probably vote for an atheist even though their views are quite different from mine.

"I am just tired of hearing all this talk of religion during the election. It seems to be dominating the campaign. Christian personal relationship with Jesus should be personal."

So a personal humanist or naturalist viewpoint should be kept personal?

If religion does not shape your worldview and inform your beliefs and values... including those to do with politics... then your religion is not worth a great deal.

Is it your intent to say that Christ should be Lord over everything in a Christian's life except for political views and votes? Sorry but the NT clearly teaches that Christ wants to be Lord over all.

An elected official who professes to be a Christian but denies that his faith informs his politics... is either lying about his politics or faith.

Barak's accent
where did barak get his southern accent? In Hawaii?, Seattle?, or from the white people that raised him? hmmmmm....

the church as black experience
I recall seeing a documentary tears back; in which various American types spoke to one another. It happens one was Darryl Dawkins; a pro basketball player.

He bragged about his male prowess; an out-of-control sex drive; and other aspects of his life. Insouciant and bawdy.

He also said, no matter what sins he committed; drug-pushing, adulteries, whatever he wanted, etc; he was in no danger of losing his soul. One thing struck me:

"All I have to do is, go to my pastor; he'll pray over me, and it's forgiven. No cause to worry; I'm saved. Haw, haw, haw !"

I also know in the Catholic church I attend; Chuck-- a big strapping, jolly African American of the greatest charm and intelligence. He's about 50 yrs old. He is a lector, sings marvelously. For some occasions, such as MLK's celebrations, etc., he'll wear an African Dashiki, sing gospel music with joy; a lovlier person you'll never meet. He's a convert from the Baptist church. I'm proud to call Chuck my dear friend.

Nellie
Wow, how racist of you. We dont understnand black churches? So then all black churches are the same? Blacks are a bunch of clones who all think exactly the same way?

As for us not understanding the black church, I am a white guy who has been to a couple of black churches in my lifetime. Indeed the issues they discuss tended to be different than those one might hear in a white church.

But let me tell you what I did not hear at those churches: I did not hear the preacher make insane claims that the government created the aids virus in an attempt to exterminate all black people. Did your pastor make such claims? Do you believe those claims?

Wright is mentally unbalanced, based on some of the statements he has made. You speak of hate? Wright hates the United States. "God Damn America!!!" he shouts repeatedly. There is your hate.

Liberation theology
Jeremiah Wright said that James Cone had a great deal of influence on him. Obama said Wright had a great deal of influence on him.

James Cones words:

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . . Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love".
James Cone
New York's Union Theological Seminary

Addendum
We, of course, will also regret it.

B'HO
I am perplexed by those who are troubled on the subject of slavery.
I , like most who post here, will be working on the gubmint plantation for at least six more weeks. This is a heritage we all share.
I harbor no hope that the new 'massa' will be any more pleasant than the others that came before.
If this young fella should find himself elevated to this nations highest office, he will rue the day that he threw his hat into the ring.

Think Jimma C to the tenth power.

"context"
The next time a Barak/Jeremiah apologist says that we need to know the "context" of the incendiary remarks, I'd like that person to then go ahead and give us the "context". Imagine the things we might hear.

lostinwilderness...

1/2 White Man ?

Being Kenyan doesn't necessarily mean that Obama's father was 100% "Black". Kenya has a several hundred year history of trade with the Arab, Persian, and Colonial Powers. I seriously doubt Obama's father could be considered much more than 1/2 "Black" himself. He is likely a mix of Black, Arab, Persian, and European.

In trying to find his "Identity", Obama may have made a serious mistake. Arab blood could be equally to blame for his mildly dark skin tone.

Arab-American Obama ?

eloquent garbage
As one commentator said...obama's speech----
was eloquent garbage!

elvis

The privileged, 1/2 white man
Obama is a rich, privileged 1/2 white man who's black father is not even an American. Obama has no roots to slavery. He has no roots to the civil rights movement. He's more like me and you than any oppressed African-American.

But he butters his bread with reverend Wright's racist, anti-American rhetoric while trying to sell the rest of us the con that he's transcended race. I think Obama has been exposed, and his wife was right when she said we'd only get 1 chance to elect him. Because if didn't do it right away, he was going to be exposed.

Big Endorsement for Obama
The New Black Panther Party endorsed Obama. They had the endorsement posted on Obama's campaign website.
But since the issues with his pastor they decided it might not go over to well with those independents. So it's gone now.
New national polls. Hillary has a 8 point lead over Obama. You go girl.

sjt18
Good answers.
Osama came out today threatening doing bodily harm to persons who ridiculed his people. Not the first time, either. Even cartoons offend him. How thin skinned can he be.

It did remind me of the same way it is in our country. There are certain people that just cannot be critized,or every word you say will be held against you. I wonder why that is?

Once upon a time in America,we had free speech. Now, many of us do not. We must watch closely what we say at all times. After all, political correctness must be upheld at all times......By some of us.

Hey Thomas
Many Bloggers are accusing you of not being Black enough!! Im not sure I understand this whole concept. I am Hispanic and we dont really have that concept going on. You are either Hispanic or your not! I mean Obama is Black enough but he is half White...exactly how does this work?

Hate is really fear

I hope and pray that love will eventually win out at TH.

You criticize Rev. Wright because I suspect you have never attended a church like Trinity, even once. You do not understand its sermons. I assure you, this is so silly. These churches have had the same sermons for a hundred years.

Show me the ills they produce!? You can't.

I've attended a few. When you come to realize what time you've spent on this non-issue, while Barack is on the campaign trail continuing what he does best...you're gonna feel like such fools.

Your blogs make me feel as though I'm in a time tunnel in America. Where is the sense of it all?
There is none. You're afraid of yourselves.

Will, your 4:46 pm post just...
underlines the hypocrisy and intolerance of the left. God forbid anyone should have any ideas, theories, philosophies etc. that differ from yours...they must be total idiots! So much for free speech! I dare say comparing people who believe that there may come a day that all humanity is judged for its sins versus someone who says that white people are using blacks and our own country is evil is disingenuous at best.

Rob, really well said!
"Why didn't Obama denoune Wright? He said abandoning Wright would be like abandoining the black community? What in Heavens does that mean?? Wright is an equivalent to the black Community? Is he an example of the black community? Is Obama as fond of Wright as he is of the black community?? I hope it's none of the above, but I seriously do not know!"

So, so true. The seminal point being that Obama is equating Wright with the black people. Does that not elicit disgust among blacks? What an insult!

John Konop
thank you for the site.

I wholeheartedly agree with Mike Huckabee's sentiments.

Isn't it ironic that only in Republican
party do black women achieve a high level and isn't it ironic how black Democrats are so quick to brand black republicans as something too offensive to print here, despite the fact that black republicans speak much more the way that Dr King said he supported, i.e., that the color of one's skin not be the reason to be hired, fired..or to belong to a group of people as a point of interest or pride.

sowell not a republican
mr. boutte? Dr Sowell has never been registered as a Republican. He is a self professed 'realist' and like many was at one time a Democrat. At present his party affiliation is I believe independent.

still more, LA is way too easy

"i told you why blacks and minorities dont vote republican..they consider the republican party to be racist. comprende?"

So basically since that is not true, you would agree with some who believe that blacks vote Dem because Dem's have systematically convinced them to believe lies about Republicans?

I can live with that answer... a rare moment of clarity and honesty for a liberal.

More time for Left Angle
"Dude do an experiment, tell your black friends how you think blacks are irresponsible, ignorant and dependent on "government handouts and free stuff"."

Why would I do that since that isn't even what I said here about all blacks. In fact, my black friends agree that way too many blacks are irresponsible and dependent on gov't programs.

I talked to a nice black mother of a 14 year old in a suburb of Chicago who was working the night desk of the hotel I stayed in. She was very concerned about her daughter. The girl had always been a great student but upon reaching HS was running into rejection by her black peers.

You see- making good grades was "too white". Any kid that studied hard was selling out to the white man.

ALL of my friends regardless of how they voted had similar laments of problems within black culture that are reinforced by the convenience of gov't programs and favors that are destroying black people.

"tell them that they vote democratic because of this reason. then get back to me and tell me if they are still your friends...lmao"

Yes. I have discussed issues with my black friends and after we've agreed on most of them including taxes, social programs, abortion, etc... have asked them bluntly why they vote against their own interests.

Again, one mentioned earlier splits his vote (though he didn't tell his momma). The other still votes Dem if he votes but his wife (one of the smartest, most beautiful people I've ever met) is a die-hard Republican.

I try to not be offensive... but I don't mind voicing my disagreements. If a friendship won't hold up to an honest discussion then it isn't much of a friendship to start with.

will rants
"Time to investigate Condi Rice's church!
And Colin Powell's church! And Alan Keyes church! And even Thomas Sowell's church!"

I'm surprised you even so much as acknowledge that they're Republicans. I thought "black Republican" was supposed to be an oxymoron?

"I'm sure if we scour every sermon given in the past 10 years, we can uncover a hotbed of inflammatory comments somewhere."

Well, that's not the point, is it?

The point is, no scouring was needed. These comments were recorded BY THE CHURCH, chosen and selected BY THE CHURCH, and published for public consumption BY THE CHURCH.

In other words, as I said before: it doesn't matter if he said it daily, weekly, monthly, annually or only once in his entire life. It would seem the CHURCH ITSELF believes those words are worthy enough to be given out to the public.

They did their own scouring on our behalf. They picked out the "juicy" parts for us. These words represent the message they wish to convey.

"Maybe this witch hunt into black churches is the conservative's way of purging african-americans from future presidential politics."

What witch hunt? The church had those tapes up on You-Tube, all by their lonesome. It would seem clear that, other than possibly affecting their favorite son's presidential aspirations, they're quite proud of those words.

Why should anyone think otherwise?

If I were on trial for murder ...
I'd definitely hire Obama as my lawyer. "But President of the United States, in a time of national danger, under a looming threat of nuclear terrorism? No."

I agree. Morton Zuckerman writes that foreign troops assigned to keep terrorists out of Gaza were too blase to do the job because it wasn't their own people at risk. Israeli troops would have kept those rockets out of Gaza.

Obama is not a traitor to the U.S. But I think Obama is too blase about American national interest -- too confused in his heart, his gut instincts -- to do what is necessary to protect America. I don't care how many 'tough guy' speeches Samantha Power writes for him about unilaterally invading Pakistan, or how much time Obama spends practicing his Reagan imitation in the mirror. Power has already said his speeches are just politics, not policy. This 20 year embrace of Jeremiah Wright tells us more about his instincts than Obama's political speeches aimed at 'useful idiots'.

Sowell on Obama
Like Frank said, if only Thomas Sowell would run for President of the United States!
Marcy

Why is Obama running for Pres?
Why is Barack Obama running for President?
He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler in Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best, still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) when he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well sums up the qualifications issue.

It'll End
Only when the race-baiting industry ends. Pride in oneself (at the very least for trying) replacing victimology in every facet of life is the only way forward. Governmental programs to redress past grievences will never work. When is the grievence redressed??!! Never, if your part of the hate-industry. Why kill the cow that's giving you somebody else's milk? Prove your worth, stop blaming others, you're no longer children, nor are you slaves. America isn't a plantation. Take responsibility for yourself and your actions. Stop being such a democrat/liberal!

Left Angle
Stop lying or start substantiating.

The best boss I've ever worked for was a black man. We still contact one another occasionally. He is a model of what a leader should be... I could only hope to attain his level.

The smartest person I ever knew was a black man. Much smarter than me.

Do you think I haven't talked to my black friends about voting? The first guy I mentioned split his vote at the time.

One guy voted straight Dem and said it was just habit... I have white relatives that do the same "ignorant" thing.

Any time now... When are you going to answer the question? Why do blacks vote Dem?

Will
I'm sure the black republican's church you mention have aleady been inviestigated a long time ago. Nothing like a Christian Radical Right to get the MSM going...

If there was a story, we would've heard the story a long time ago.

Odd how you despise Falwell and those like him who have condemned gay people, and I will have to agree with you 100%.

But how is Obama's pastor any different than Falwell? There is no difference in my mind and you know how I can see it both ways. Plus, Obama has a long history with this guy as you must know.

You're not being intellectually honest with yourself if you cannot condemn what this Wright says and wonder about Obama in the process.

Left Angle
How ignorant of psychology are you? There are some smart folks here... probably even some of the liberals... who know that mind control techinques are real and have been in practice for all of recorded history.

Some slaves required physical hobbling to keep them from running... most only needed psychological and emotional hobbling.

For a period during our history, American slavery began to look more like Greek slavery. Blacks were often well educated. They served as vets, masons, engineers, carpenters, blacksmiths, etc. Much if not most of the great architecture in Va and DC was by black artisans.

Like ancient Greece, for a very short period, there began to be classes of slaves with some even able to buy their freedom. The Greeks had at least 4 classes of slaves- from oppressed laborers right up to a professional class of doctors, lawyers, artists, etc. The basic definition of a slave is "one whose labor as a resource belongs to someone else".

For various reasons but in part due to unrest and abolitionist terrorism, states passed laws prohibiting the education of slaves. They were not to be taught reading or math. Some people in slave states were motivated by fear and ideas of racial superiority of course... but people then weren't nearly as monolithic in their ideals as liberals like to color them.

The first abolitionist movement btw was amongst patriots and both the north and south around the time of the Revolution. In part, slavery was a compromise to prevent renewed fighting with Tories... who were usually richer and owned more slaves.

I know liberals would much rather ignore history... but the truth still matters.

stj18
You asked LeftAngle: "Why can't you just deal with facts rather than running off into ad hominem?"

Because liberals are incaple of dealing with facts, that's why.

sjt18: what a coincidence...
you know your ideas about black people are so outmoded, ignorant and silly that it defies comprehension. what i really find galling is that you have black friends and yet you secretly think they are intellectually inferior than you.

Dude do an experiment, tell your black friends how you think blacks are irresponsible, ignorant and dependent on "government handouts and free stuff". tell them that they vote democratic because of this reason. then get back to me and tell me if they are still your friends...lmao

i told you why blacks and minorities dont vote republican..they consider the republican party to be racist. comprende?

Oh Left Angle
You STILL haven't stated why you think blacks vote for Dems if it isn't the reasons we gave.

bporter: a response
you stated:

"It is factual that slaves were often punished for trying to get educated or trying to learn how to read. It is well-documented that slaves secretly met to become better educated and took great risks to do so."

sjt18 stated:

"They (black slaves) were intentionally kept ignorant and dependent..."

bporter, did you notice I said nothing about book learning in my post? what you and sjt are implying is that black slaves couldnt think for themselves and deduce the situation going on around them period. that is total bs..and you know what really ironic, people such as yourself
STILL think that about modern blacks. that is what is so offensive to blacks and a big part of why they dont vote republican.

What on earth does this even mean? I am kept ignorant and dependent? On what? I gave you a well documented fact of history. The white masters systematically made their slaves fear freedom.

"the very idea that you expouse is above is silly. you might as well call black people monkeys..."

Why? I said nothing of the sort. Is your comprehension really that bad?

When you convince people that they can't succeed if free and responsible, they will stay dependent.

It has absolutely nothing at all to do with skin color. I have a white niece that has been spoiled by my in-laws for so long that she can't function. She can't hold a job, pay her bills, or live responsible for herself.

"you want to know why blacks vote republican?

because of racist attitudes like yours which are prevalent in the republican party."

You haven't even come close to establishing that I have said much less am racist. Why can't you just deal with facts rather than running off into ad hominem?

" you seriously
underestimate the intelligence ane wherewithal of minorities period. you offend me with YOUR ignorance."

I have known, befriended, attended church with, worked for, worked with, managed, teamed with, respected, and been respected by black people all my life. I grew up in NC but have lived all over the US. My wife and I have found black friends in every city outside the south specifically because we have more in common with them culturally than we do the whites around.

Again, why don't you try a reasoned, factual exchange of ideas instead of name calling? You might actually learn something.

Obama's Drama
I could say alot but nothing could sum it up quite as succintly as Mr. Sowell already has.

All I can add is this....Obama may live in the heart of America, but it's obvious that America doesn't live in the heart of Obama

Thanks Dr. Sowell
You said what I have been thinking. That Barak Obama hasn't fully defined himself, for himself.

I listen to him, and I can't help but think that he believes some of the things he says (and that is what resonates with Americans), but he isn't very atuned to the 'culture' into which he has immersed himself.

That he cannot see the hatred espoused by Wright for what it is condemns his judgement and his clarity. As long as he buys into the two-Americas mind-set, we have a long way to go.

It is one thing to want to UNITE, it is another to embrace and identify with the 'Black culture' instead of the American culture.

For a smile
I invite you all to my blog. The latest parody is about Obama. enjoy.

These wackos are not going to vote for an atheist.

Do you think that somebody willing to drink Christ's blood & eat his flesh is a rationally thinking person?

McCain's new campaign advisor (Tim LaHaye) has written a series of evangelical books, the "Left Behind" series. See, when Jesus comes back (called the "Rapture") lots of bodies will rise up, up, up to the heavens. Little piles of clothing & jewelry & watches will remain for those select few who are "chosen". The "Left Behind" series starts out with an airliner flying & suddenly some passengers & the pilot unexpectedly rise up to heaven, leaving little puddles of clothing, as the remaining passengers (those "left behind") scream & carry on. Luckily, the co-pilot is also "left behind" & takes charge of the plane. This scenario goes on all over the U.S., all over the world. A select few rise up into the heavens while others are "left behind". General mayhem ensues. Massive car crashes. Plane crashes. Complete disorder. Business shuts down. Oil production, stock markets, every aspect of modern existence is affected. This apparently sets the scene for an "anti-christ" to take over.

Many evangelicals actually believe this BS. Some of the same people who are lamenting about Barack Obama's pastor would have no problem voting for a candidate that believes all this "left behind" voodoo written in the Book of Revelations.

John Acton:
This practice of black Muslims kidnapping non-Muslims into slavery exists to this day. Jeremiah Wright isn't concerned about it, though.

In defense of Revs. Hagee and Parsley
There is no rule saying that a pastor can't offend people. Pastors need to speak the truth, whether someone is offended or not. It's the job of an evangelical Christian pastor to teach that his faith is true, and this necessarily implies that other faiths are false.

Rev. Hagee is doing his job as a pastor and theologian when he explains the grave theological errors of the Catholic Church. I haven't reached a conclusion about the subject, but there are some really spooky parallels between the actions and belief of the Catholic hierarchy and the Biblical predictions of anti-Christ. What is Rev. Hagee supposed to do? Falsely claim that there are no significant theological differences between evangelical Protestantism and Catholocism?

Likewise, Rev. Parsley is doing his job in identifying Islam as a false religion, and its leading elements -- the radicals -- are waging all-out war against our civilization. "Moderate" Islam is helpless before the radicals because the radicals are the ones true to the teachings of their bloodthirsty "Prophet."

God bless Revs. Hagee and Parsley for having the courage to speak these truths.

On the other hand, Wright and his "Black Liberation Theology" hate America and hate whites, and believe simply crazy conspiracy theories. You can believe such drivel if you want, as can Sen. Obama. It's a free country. But if you hate America and falsely accuse it of heinous crimes, don't be surprised if patriotic Americans want nothing to do with you.

Re: The African Connection
"So, when you go about condemning slavers & 'white' racists, you need to take a good look in a mirror. Like it or not, they are your ancestors, not mine."

Truth is that the slavery of black African was made possible by other black Africans, usually Moselems, who went into the bush and capture non-Moslem blacks to be sold to the white slavery traders. The only active slave market I have ever seen was in Sokoto, Nigeria, set of the most powerful Islamic Sultanate in Nigeria.

Of course, even today Sudanese Moslems capture and sell as slave black Moslem and non-Moslem Sudanese.

Being of Moslem heritage on his Kenyan father's side, it is very likely that back in Obama's genealogy there might just be a slaver.

Moral equivalence
Liberals say examine what other Pastors are doing.

Obama has free will and is responsible for his own decisions, what others may be doing is a type of reasoning that is foolish and often dangerous. This erroneous thinking is emotional, not grounded in logic and is usually used by teenagers and others who have not achieved adulthood.

Will, I'd love for you to scour ...
the last 5, 10, or even 40 years of the messages from my church. Maybe you'd hear a message of hope and love to help you see there's room at the foot of the cross for everyone. From those full of lust (that'd be me) to liars to homosexuals (that'd be you) to idolators. Go ahhead. I challenge you! Go to http://www.southlandchristian.org and download some of the previous sermons and listen to find those "hatefilled" messages of hope.

I read once (and, based on physical appearances, I suspect it is true) that roughly 70% of 'black' Americans are of mixed (with 'white') ancestry. Me, I'm an Irish guy. St Patrick condemned slavery 1500 years ago & my forebears have kept out of it since. The same can be said for most present-day 'white' Americans.
So, when you go about condemning slavers & 'white' racists, you need to take a good look in a mirror. Like it or not, they are your ancestors, not mine.

No, all potential conservative black candidates, like those mention by you, are done in by the Democratic Party and the MSM hitmen!

Only those black candidates who have a bigoted, anti-American, hate monger like Rev. Wright, as their pastor and religious guide need be "purged".

Yep!
"Like the Soviet show trials during their 1930s purges, Obama's speech was not supposed to convince critics but to reassure supporters and fellow-travelers, in order to keep the "useful idiots" useful."

Just like the NY-Times writes it's headlines for the international socialist of which Obama and democrat party leaders aspire us to be. These are the same folks that hated Harry Truman, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush because they wore them cowboy hats besides talking tough. The perception of cowboy (John Wayne) is an American thing and why international socialist hate cowboys is to hate America just like the left does.

I don't want Obama healing the wounds with these people in the world, international socialist have always envied and hated America and isn't just some new phenomenon under President Bush.

Content
Compare Obama's speech of yesterday with the column written by Thomas Sowell. The column is informative in that the words are put together so that thoughts, opinions and facts present a concise and accurate view of the subject, and allow the reader to form his own opinion on the subject without having to plough through unnecessary rhetoric.
Obama's speech was one based on a part of the subject only, disjointed, and did nothing to clarify any part of the matter in which it was purported to refer.
His other speeches are the same. He does a lot of talking and says nothing.

"These constantly recycled videos, offensive or not, represent a small minority of Wright’s work."

Oh, really? And just how would you know? Did you heard all his sermons? If not how could you possibly jump to such a conclusion.

However, seeing that Trinity United Church of Christ and Rev. Wright espouse Black Liberation Theology, a hateful form of racial-centric religion that insists God destroy the what race if He is to be accepted as the blackman's God, it seems quite logical that the hate-speech that is apparent in the "Best of Rev. Wright" video collection is undoubtedly representative of the garbage his parishioners heard every Sunday.

Re: A mind is aterrible thing to lose

By the Democratic Party and their bosses at the NEA. This keeps them on the Democrat Plantation which is run by "overseers" like Barack Hussein Obama, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, etc. with the "rhetoric of hate" that was so well demonstrated by Obama's mentor the hateful Rev. Wright.

Polls -Black voters
The new polls from Public Policy Polling are showing Obama is actually starting to lose some black support. Obama has been getting 80% of the black vote. It's now in the low 60% and still moving down.

Black Theology
A white guy who wrote for JFK wrote Obama's speech. Ever listen to Obama when he doesn't have his prepared words? He's just not a JFK orator when he's not being fed the words.

Here's some words regarding black theology that maybe explain Pastor Wright's sermons.

Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

Obama on Wright

Correcting Anthony

Anthony: “…the media… has unfairly condemned a black/far left pastor.”

Correction: Wright’s own words are what condemned him – not the media. Nice try blaming the messenger, though.

Anthony: ‘Also, Wright never said “I hate all white people” and “they should be deported to Europe”. Your assertion that he did is just a flat out lie.’

Correction: The question put to me was whether Wright had said “ANYTHING LIKE” that statement and the answer is yes, Wright’s rhetoric was every bit as hateful and outrageous.

Anthony: “Any other time you whine and complain about how unfair, bias and inaccurate the media is…”

Correction: Then I guess if even the media thinks there’s a story there it can’t be as trivial as you’d like to make it. But who says it’s just the media? Based on what I’ve seen, people from all walks of life find Wright’s rhetoric (and Obama’s acceptance of it) to be appalling.

Re: What did he know?
"Had Obama brought Rev. Wright, there would have been just as much speculation, and no doubt an equal percentage of it would have been darkly toned."

I believe Obama's relationship with the Rev. Wright goes to the subject of associations. If the "Hipe of Hope" didn't know of Rev. Wright bigoted anti-white hate-speech, why did the Senator un-invite his 20 year mentor to give the invocation at his "coming out" party?

Maldain
“Sorry but it's hard to refute the man's own words caught on film by people friendly to him”

You miss the point, obviously. These constantly recycled videos, offensive or not, represent a small minority of Wright’s work. He’s been preaching for forty years and the recently played videos don’t represent a comprehensive examination of him as a pastor. I suggest you read his Audacity to Hope speech to get a better perspective of the man.

Re: Black Theology 101
"The lack of dignity you share among you is the anti-Christ."

No, according to Rev. Wright, white folks are the anti-Christ.

Dr. Sowell keep shining your light
Liberals are narcisstic elitists. The incessant gnawing inside them is their fear of inferiority.
They try to validate self by attacking the wisdom and knowledge of someone like Dr. Sowell.

Not worthy of shining his shoes liberals resort to despicable labels and name calling. Liberals expect us to recognize their “superiority” and give them the special treatment they so richly deserve – not because of skill or what they have accomplished – but because of whom they are.

Liberals believe their very presence solves problems and relieves pain. Liberals have great disdain for those who do not see their “special” abilities and uses those who believe in them – like tissue to be disposed of when no longer needed.

Dr. Sowell described this behaviour well "useful idiots"

Polls - Obama is Plummeting

These polls were taken over the weekend. The Obama pastor story had just broke. So it may not have sunk in yet.

Pennsylvania - Hillary up 26 points. It's a blowout. Now we know why he had to give the speech.

Sorry but it's hard to refute the man's own words caught on film by people friendly to him. The tapes were purchased from the church store and judging from the crowd's response to his message he's got a great deal of sympathy for his view point in that church. To say that it's unfair to judge a man by showing him doing what he does for a living is hilarious. And I'll do you the favor of not assuming you actually believe what you wrote.

It’s amazing that conservatives like you have all of a sudden see the media engaging in rationality, fairness and accuracy now that it has unfairly condemned a black/far left pastor. Any other time you whine and complain about how unfair, bias and inaccurate the media is, but I guess that depends on who the media is criticizing and who it isn’t criticizing. Ralph Ellison: “So how exactly is Jeremiah Wright a bigot or anti-white?”

Where have you been, Ralph? Based on the news coverage it’s pretty clear that the rest of the rational world sees Wright’s rhetoric for what it is, so if you think I’m going to waste time having a ‘depends on the meaning of the word “it”’ style argument with you, no thanks.

“Are his comments on the USA worse than those of Robertson or the late Jerry Falwell in regards to 9/11?”

Yes.

“Also, did Wright ever say anything like "I hate all white people and think they should be deported to Europe" and follow it up with an uplifting sermon?”

Yes, and you libs think that makes everything okie-doke.

Apparently you and Anthony come from the same elementary school. Your ‘debate’ is equally juvenile.

AT and Waldo: Criticizing America
There is a huge difference between criticizing America and criticizin elements within American society. In a post above (a little love-fest between you two), Ellison states:
"Many people, especially some conservatives, focus only on the "safe" King. They disregard his anti-war record as well as his great mention of the evils of American society: racism, materialism, and militarism."

The distinction is right there and I don't think you realize it even though YOU WROTE IT!! MLK didn't criticize America he criticized the problems within America. See if you can get this difference: My son makes a bad choice and I say, "Son, I'm disappointed in you." Or, I could say, "Son, I'm disappointed in your choice to disregard what I asked you to do." There is a HUGE difference between the two and if you don't see it, well, this time instead of being sorry for you family in general, I'm sorry on behalf of any children you may screwed up.

Re: Morally Challenged jive talk
"Can easily compete next to the best of MLK. Impassioned, intellectually challenging, extraordinarily substantive, rhetoric that forces you to rethink all your latent prejudices."

Obama is a "moral relativist" of the worst order. He is even willing to say that his white grandmother's fear of black men is the moral equivalent of his mentor and pastor's spewing anti-white hate speech.

For someone who claims to be able to bring ALL AMERICANS together, he should first start with his great friend and inspiration, the evil Rev. Wright.

Black Leadership Needed
The first time I heard Jesse Jackson, I was very impressed and inspired. I saw in him a much needed leader. His message then was "Be somebody".
Unfortunately, Rev Jackson dissembled, stumbled, became corrupt, and so did his message. he became invested in keeping people believing they were oppressed, and has made an industry out of it. Much like Pastor Wright has.

Now it occurs to me that Mr. Obama could be the guy. He's bright and articulate and cool. He's been wrongheaded, gullible and naive so far. But he is capable of an epiphany.

I think he was genuinely taken aback by this firestorm (because he's not accustomed to being questioned and therefore of questioning, and because he's been gullibly trying to punch his political ticket). He sat in that pew, and didn't question.

He's gotten a big surprise. He is capable, I think, of recognizing that's he's been worshipping at the wrong altar, and capable of leading others to conclude the same thing. He could lead those people out of the slavery they've bought into.

It's possible therefore that he may have a higher calling, to become a leader of real substance in the racial dialogue in America.

I do not believe he's got anything it takes to be President of the United States. But I do believe that it's possible for him to become a fine leader. He needs to think and question (and convince his wife, most likely) that these ways are not the right ways toward justice.

Perhaps he'll decide that politics is not the place to be. That would be a great American story.

nonsense, leftist angle
Am I to understand you haven't found out our great Thomas Sowell is a black American ?

If Sowell ran for president of this country, he'd sure get my vote(s). Would he make the perfect President ? Probably not; it's a horrendous job for anyone. If strong principles and a deep understanding of our nation's potential make a great president, Sowell would easily distinguish himself.

Like Reagan, he'd have to delegate a lot of his authority. This always presents a risk.

I can picture Barack Obammy delegating his-- to Danny Glover or a cousin from Kenya. And, naturally, he would invite "Reverend" Wright to sleep over in the Lincoln bedroom any time it pleases him. Like so many good citizens of Chi-Town; they would roll dem bones every evening. Yeeahhh!

If Obama didn't know
If Obama attended that "church" for 20 years and didn't know about the racist rantings and ravings of his "uncle", he's way too dumb to be president. "Useful idiot" perhaps, president no.

Yesterday you promised to tell us why blacks vote for Dems but never did. You only protested in a very shallow way the idea we suggested.

Do you have an answer today?

You are an absolute moron if you think the free thinkers like Sowell are the house n--gers running to tell mass anything.

Do you know why most slaves didn't run? At first it was because of beatings and threats. By the Civil War, they didn't run because they'd been convinced that they couldn't make it on their own. They were intentionally kept ignorant and dependent... and the Uncle Toms helped in that effort. The dependent slaves feared or else despised those who ran and created problems for them wid da massa.

This is PRECISELY what liberalism is doing to blacks today- making them dependents. They and their Uncle Toms like this Wright character, Jesse Jackson, et al demonize any rebellious ni--er that dares deny gov't dependency and makes a run for freedom... that's why they absolutely hate guys like Sowell, Williams, and Elder... that's why they give no credit to Bush or any of the blacks that have served in high positions in his administration.

Conservatives WANT blacks to be free and self-dependent. We specifically DO NOT want them dependent on us, the gov't, or anyone else. We want them to take their place as free individuals in building a nation true to its founding ideals of personal freedom, responsibility, and self-government without the biases and prejudices that many of that era held.

The frailties of the men who founded the country have no bearing on the truthfulness and worthiness of the ideals they espoused.

Hope is dead!
The speech was appalling. He threw his loving grandmother under the bus instead of this virulent, anti-American racist "preacher". I guess he hoped that we would all be glad that he talked about race but the speech was pap and answered no questions and if he gets away with it we should all be ashamed. Loyalty is good only when combined with judgment. Nobody is thanking Bush for his loyalty to Rumsfeld (or Bremer or Brownie). And nobody should celebrate Barack's loyalty to this hate monger. Yesterday was a day when we got to see Obama's judgment and values and character. A day when he chose sides. Unfortunately, for him( I hope not America) he chose the wrong side.

Why was this speech about race?
Sorry, Barry, but the crazy stuff about the CIA creating the AIDS virus, 9/11 being America's fault, Heck, 9/11 being an inside job, and generalized hatred of America are available all night on Coast to Coast AM along with some really cool alien abductions and talking to dead people. The non-spooky stuff is available on AirAmerica all day and BOTH of these are almost entirely white people ( except the grays ) Why do you answer people with a speech about RACE relations? Of course, it's because if you make everything about race you cannot be challenged. Too bad the GOP is too dumb to run a real Black American on their ticket. You would be shredded.
