What would you rather watch?

Did Senator Barack Obama's speech in Philadelphia convince people that he is still a viable candidate to be President of the United States, despite the adverse reactions to statements by his pastor, Jeremiah Wright?

The polls and the primaries will answer that question.

The great unasked question for Senator Obama is the question that was asked about President Nixon during the Watergate scandal; What did he know and when did he know it?

Although Senator Obama would now have us believe that he is shocked, shocked, at what Jeremiah Wright said, that he was not in the church when pastor Wright said those things from the pulpit, this still leaves the question of why he disinvited Wright from the event at which he announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination a year ago.

Either Barack Obama or his staff must have known then that Jeremiah Wright was not someone whom they wanted to expose to the media and to the media scrutiny to which that could lead.

Why not, if it is only now that Senator Obama is learning for the first time, to his surprise, what kinds of things Jeremiah Wright has been saying and doing?

No one had to be in church the day Wright made his inflammatory and obscene remarks to know about them.

The cable news journalists who are playing the tapes of those sermons were not there. The tapes were on sale in the church itself. Obama knew that because he had bought one or more of those tapes.

But even if there were no tapes, and even if Obama never heard from other members of the church what their pastor was saying, he spent 20 years in that church, not just as an ordinary member but also as someone who once donated $20,000 to the church.

There was no way that he didn't know about Jeremiah Wright's anti-American and racist diatribes from the pulpit.

Someone once said that a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe.

Accordingly, Obama's Philadelphia speech -- a theatrical masterpiece -- will probably reassure most Democrats and some other Obama supporters. They will undoubtedly say that we should now "move on," even though many Democrats have still not yet moved on from George W. Bush's 2000 election victory.

Like the Soviet show trials during their 1930s purges, Obama's speech was not supposed to convince critics but to reassure supporters and fellow-travelers, in order to keep the "useful idiots" useful. Continued...

Maybe he really doesnt go to church
Maybe he's an Easter & Christmas kinda guy.
He just needed to play up his dep faith to counter the worries of Muslim leanings because of his middle name.
Maybe he didn't know what Wright preached, because he really didn't go much.

God bless Thomas Sowell
Wish he was running for president.

Nos Nevets
Really? What planet did you just beam in from? He (Obama) has admitted to at least "sporadic" attendance, while he was trying to distance himself from the Rev. He claims he wasn't present in church when any of the offensive statements were made, yet he's admitted that he was aware of how "rough" Wright could be. So why would he not allow Rev. Jeremiah Wright to be present at the ceremony that kicked off his campaign for POTUS? It's called "consciousness of guilt." You need some fresh air, or better yet, a program because you are deluded.

Wobbie
So I ask once again, what is a gedunk (sometimes spelled geedunk)? You must know the answer.

Waco
Wright and Obama both better be glad their names aren't David Koresh. They would have been long gone. No tax exempt status, why should I pay for them to want to kill my white hind end. I mean I thought churches were not to suppose to engage in politics. The Islamics do that sort of stuff. You know theocracies.
if b.Hussein Obama gets elected we are going to have a government run by the church of Obama. Obama is the prodigy of Wright and Obama makes it clear that he is the prodigy of Wright. Michelle Obama has make it very clear how she thinks. We have poison at the well. It can kill a lot of folks who drink it. I mean Koresh was a man who went jogging through the country and played a guitar on the streets of Waco and his followers all took care of their own selves raised their onw food that sort of stuff and they were all toast compliments of the US government.
I mean even Jim Baker was dragged down the steps crying and sobbing but away he went too.Of course that's another story.

Historical speech
Can easily compete next to the best of MLK. Impassioned, intellectually challenging, extraordinarily substantive, rhetoric that forces you to rethink all your latent prejudices.

This is obviously one for the history books. If there is any "bar" for political speeches, this clearly took it into a totally different sphere. Barack supporters can plainly be proud. McCain & Hillary are so pedestrian by comparison.

Nos Nevets
Are you going to cut and paste this very same comment on every thread on TH that is about Obama's speech?

This is the second time I have read it and it is already old. It was also on Machelle Malkin's thread.

Will
We can all be proud of you.

No, not for your 12:41 post which is rediculous in and of itself.

You didn't even work it into your post about being gay, gay rights or any of that other stuff you spew.

Not that there is anything wrong with that...

Will, looks like it worked on you......
As Dr. Sowell stated....

"Someone once said that a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe."

"Like the Soviet show trials during their 1930s purges, Obama's speech was not supposed to convince critics but to reassure supporters and fellow-travelers, in order to keep the "useful idiots" useful."

"speechifying"

I guess the die was cast by Kennedy & followed by Romney. But I disagree that a "speech' was what Obama needed to do. Unless, that is, he adheres to the precepts of "black liberation theology." In which case he should have spoken to that.
In fact, neither Kennedy nor Romney were called upon to explain why they were in close association with a "pastor" who spews vile anti-American, racist rhetoric. Like Clinton with the Jennifer Flowers revelation, Obama needs to sit down one-on-one with interviewers & answer tough questions.
I see his "speechifying" as a political ruse intended to shift the glare: "Since my pastor is an outed racist, isn't it time the country had a 'dialogue' on race? And ain't I just the one to so beautifully articulate such a call?"
Not even a nice try. This one won't go away.
PB

Obama's speech leaves no questions
If after hearing the speech made by Obama leaves questions in your mind. Then you didn't hear the speech. If Obama's speech didn't satify you enough, then you were waiting for Obama to say something, you heard someone else say Obama needs to say. Some waited for Obama to disown Reverend Wright. This Obama said he wasn't going to do. Speak to the members and ask them if Reverend Wright spoke like he does on the tapes 24/7. Obama can't be the only brainwashed person in the whole membership of the Trinity United Church. Neither can Obama be the only one who has attended the Reverends church for twenty years. What Obama is being attack for, can't apply only to Obama. It has to apply to the whole membership of Trinity United Church. In Obama's speech, he spoke a lot about Reverend Wright. Many times he rejected and denounced what the Reverend had said on the tapes. None of the speeches Obama has made, has included any type of influence Obama is being accused of having because of Reverend Wright. How any times is Obama going to have to say he didn't go to the Reverend for political advice. The idea that Obama's judgment is now compromised because of Reverend Wright, is really reaching to further create doubt in the voters. Obama's speech was right on target. Next time Obama delivers a speech, listen to the speech Obama makes and not the speech that has been made to interpret Obama. All of this is because, of words that came out of someone else's mouth and not Obama's.

NObama
Let's see here... we have a presidential candidate who has been attending a virulently ant-white anti-American church for more than two decades.

And Obama wants me, a white male who deeply loves this nation, to vote for him, whose close mentor and spiritual adviser spewed the most vile, racist, anti-American rhetoric from the pulpit of that church?

Obama says he wasn't aware of his minister's controversial words. Obama is lying.

The cherry on top is president Obama is going to bring the races together. Sort of like David Duke or segregationist Georgia Governor Lester Maddox.

Right.

If Barack Were Conservative
I think it's safe to say Sen. Obama's campaign would be in never-to-recover mode if he were a Republican. The networks would not be ignoring this and would be the ones playing the "sermons" from Rev. Wright over and over again. It would be over.

The defense of "I wasn't there when he said things like that" is not wise and will not hold up in the court of public opinion. It sounds good to his supporters, but to any objective person that just will not cut it. It is not possible that he did not know, with exactness, what Rev. Wright was preaching.

There is an old saying that goes something like "tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are". Besides, how long is it going to be until someone comes forward saying Barack was in attendance when the good Revered got revved up and got a little "rough"?

Chugga lug, Will
It seems Will is drunk on the Democrat Koolaid. Someone take his keys before he winds up in a ditch. Whoops... too late

Bman
If you're going to call me "rediculous", please consult your online dictionary (so you don't, yourself, come across as ridiculous).

I Find It Interesting --
-- that these comments were on tapes being sold BY the church IN the church -- !!

I'd wondered how these recordings had gotten out!

So -- for those of you trying to "soft peddle" these words (e.g., Maverick's comment, "... ask [the members] if Reverend Wright spoke like he does on the tapes 24/7" ) -- it doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter whether he talks like this every day, once a week, once a year, or just once.

The point is, THESE are the words THE CHURCH CHOSE for public consumption. THESE are the words THEY chose to represent their pastor.

No matter how often he spoke words like these, the church thought it was important enough, representative enough, true to his message enough, to record them and sell.

These ARE the words of Reverend Wright. There's no two ways about it.

Just Politics
Obama may or may not recall the inflammatory rhetoric coming from Rev. Wright, but that's irrelevant, because Obama didn't join the church for religion, he joined for political credibility in a black neighborhood on the southside of Chicago in which he was a outsider.

For Obama, church membership was never about the gospel or faith, it was about getting elected to the Illinois State Senate. Obama needed Rev. Wright and the members of the congregation to create a base of political support and to work the precincts. It was all just politics for Obama. Now that he's moved up the food chain, he's straining to find separation with the inconvenient reverend, while not alienating the black community.

Obama knew that sooner or later he'd be faced with this issue, so he's trying to finesse the Rev. Wright's hate speech by using the race card (whites don't understand the black experience in America, etc., etc.). Barak Obama has planned this run for the Presidency since Harvard Law School, every move has been calculated, the move to the southside of Chicago, building a political base in the black church community, a non controversial Senate career. Cold, calculated, brilliant. Barak and Michelle make Bill and Hillary look like amateurs.

The same peple who call for
us to move on from this racist diatribe are the first people to call for Imus to be fired. Hypocrits all.

There is no defending this one people. Trying to do so only makes you look stupid. Of course, you are Democraps so you already look that way.

Townhall writers. Your insistance on sensationalizing with come back to bite you.

The lack of dignity you share among you is the anti-Christ.

You are not fit to criticize, because you are, yourselves, horrible sinners in God's eyes.

You can expect personal suffering for those outragous stories you eject into the minds of humanity.

They are what degrades the America we've lost by compromising the values He's so lovingly shared.

Think on these things when you've fallen.

Welcome Maverick
Please welcome the local representative of Obama's Rapid Internet Response Team. Welcome, Maverick. Distinguishing between a politician's words and actions is the issue. For 20 years Obama found Wright's racist, anti-American theology and politics congenial. Or, perhaps Wright's congregation served his political ambitions (that would be cynical) rather than religious convictions. Or what?
I think your master just lost the election. The policy differences between Obama and Hilary are trivial. However, Hilary offers the possibility, with Bill at her side, of having learned from the mistakes of their previous years in office. Small comfort, but better the Devil you know, than the transcendent one you don't.

Not quite fair, Dr. Sowell
"...this still leaves the question of why he disinvited Wright from the event at which he announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination a year ago."

Motives are endlessly subject to speculation. Had Obama brought Rev. Wright, there would have been just as much speculation, and no doubt an equal percentage of it would have been darkly toned. Shall we now question Mrs. Clinton's motives for making use of her husband as a campaign asset -- or for not making greater use of him?

I dislike Obama for his liberal-socialist leanings, his associations, and the unprecedented vacuity of his campaign. (Well, all right, William Henry Harrison ran an equally vacuous campaign, but he wasn't nearly as irritating.) I have no need to question his motives in inviting (or not) this one or that one to this or that event.

Let's stick to matters of substance. Rev. Wright has certainly provided us with enough of those, even if his protege the junior senator from Illinois hasn't.

Nellie
Of course we are all sinners in God's eyes. Even some so-called "pastors".It is bad enough that we ARE all sinners, but worse if we are stumbling blocks to other people.

We,the people you are directing your predictions, etc. to, are not the bad guys here. You need to talk to Obama, Wright & Co.

I think a "sleeping giant"has been awakened and he is angry. You need to pray that he can be appeased,so he will settle back down and cause no more harm.

maverick, why did Obama choose Wright?
He did not explain his actions, choices and bad judgement to pick this man as mentor/advisor. He explained why Wright was angry and racist. He explained/excused the black man's racist views. He asked white people to understand the black man's struggles from a historical perspective. He attempted to explain white concerns (affirmative action). Nothing about his speech answered the most important question, i.e. of all the people he met along his career advancement, community activism, law school, IL senator etc, why pick Wright as mentor/advisor? This is what makes his judgement as POTUS questionable. Rational americans do not want Wright mentoring/advising the president. And since Obama will not distance himself from Wright, then americans are justified not to vote for him. What a shame.

Shocker, Obama's failed to calculate
american pride in their equation to win the whitehouse race. Americans have pride in this nation and a man who will not say Bless America, wear a lapelle pin and pick an angry racist mentor/advisor will not be honored with the presidency especially when his opponent is an american war hero. God Bless America, and God Bless our future president John McCain.

How Does One Transcend Racism
Certainly not by embracing the most vile of racist and hate filled rhetoric. Black racism and hatred of America is given a pass. Were Hillary or McCain tied so closely to a community leader as Obama is to Rev. Wright their campaigns would be over. It is obvious that far too many Democrats are able to listen to the filth coming from the reverend and nod their heads in agreement. In its dreams the Klan wishes it could damage Blacks as much as 'Leaders' like Wright and the Democrat Party.

Hussein can't be trusted, period!
When he gets his walking papers this fall (I doubt the superdelegates have the backbone to give Hillary the nomination), at least it will not be the whitemen to blame. He can blame the white woman who questioned his readiness to lead and he can blame his black angry racist mentor. What a relief!

Boutte , you can't blame this one on
the house negro. You need to blame it on the negro using social injustice to incite anger and racism. Also, blame the half negro who gives the angry racist pastor credibility by picking his as his mentor/advisor. Americans are not stupid, and so they will express their american pride in November by voting for anyone but Wrights mentee. God Bless America! (I hope Obama and Wright are not offended but if they are, they can go and discuss it with their negro hating americans in IL).

TruLib, in his interview Obama stopped
Dan Abrams when he attempted to ask that same question - what if he were a white candidate....apparently, black racism is justifiable because the whites started it. The problem with this argument is that blacks can't have it both ways i.e. asking for equal opportunity and respect, while practicing the same hatred whites practiced to make them unequal. My 5 year old knows the "she started it" defense does not work when he is being unfair to his sister. Barak seems unclear about this fact...maybe it's grandma's sins that he is atoning for when he embaraces this anger and racism. Perhaps it gives him a table at the "Negro table" or perhaps it makes him feel closer to his black dad who was MIA. Whatever his reasons, he is neither qualified nor fair minded enough to be president.

Doubtfull
As an acive member of a local church, I also get together with other members outside of church. As a member of his church for 20 years I imagine that BO did likewis. At these get togethers we often discuss what the preacer said. If I miss a sunday, during the week someone will bring up the sermon. Then again perhaps they never got together with others from the church. Most church folks consider fellow members as family and travel through life together. Reminds me of the three monkeys, no see, no hear, no see

A well written piece
Thank-you, Mr. Sowell, you are a credit to your race, the human race. I know comments from the likes of Boutte are not new to you, but I hate to read them knowing they are framed to injure.

God bless you and may you continue to expose hypocrisy with conviction and clarity.

Boutte
obviously does not remember that Nixon was forced out of office for Watergate. We didn't know about Watergate beforehand or else would not have considered him for the Presidency. Likewise, we are just trying to evaluate a man that has only had 2 years of national spotlight.

My concerns are 1) If he has been part of the congregation for 20 years and not noticed Rev. Wright's leanings (as he said) then I can't consider him observant enough to lead the country. 2) If he did notice the Reverend's leanings and thought them important enough to expose his two children then he must think highly of that point of view. Enough to lie about not hearing the Rev. Wright talk about them. In this case I can't consider him for POTUS.

In any case, I wasn't considering him because of his extreme leftist GIVErnment leanings.

The Myth of Obama Exposed
Barack Obama, son of a biracial couple, was perfectly situated to be a transcendent figure who "could bring the races together." Perhaps if his mentor had been Bill Cosby instead of Rev. Wright he might have pulled it off. If he had worked in the Chicago slums and helped black youth to pull themselves up by their bootstraps instead of blaming white people for their supposed inability to achieve success he might have "walked the walk" as well as "talked the talk."
Instead, it is obvious he bought into the black liberation theology and all the irrational tirades of Rev. Wright. Race trumped rationality and a Harvard education and Obama stands revealed as a younger, glibber, Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton.
I agree with Newt Gingrich that if Barack had devoted several paragraphs in his speech to why he loved America and appreciated the benefits of his American citizenship the "speech" would have been more effective.
And for God's sake, don't throw your white grandmother under the bus to make a point!

Moving on
I have pointed out elsewhere that the main difference between Obama and Wright is a matter of presentation. Obama stands regally behind the podium and delivers his message in well-modulated tones while Wright stalks the podium, fists waving and spittle flying. The message is the same - America is wrong. It needs to be changed.

I, for one, am getting very tired of minorities - black, latino, women, whatever - complaining about how unfair America is. We ended slavery 140 years ago and it hasn't come back. We can't say the same for Africa or most of the Middle East. We passed the civil rights amendment about 40 years ago. It was a bipartisan effort, when you get right down to it. Since then, Americans of all colors and creeds have had the opportunity to flourish and thrive. Millions of blacks have been very successful. If America was racist, that could not have happened.

Those who suffer as minorities do so primarily because of their own attitudes. Would you want to hire someone who talks like Wright? Would you want to live next to him? On the other hand, if this country were racist, would Thomas Sowell have been able to achieve the position he has? He is just as black as Obama or Wright yet I'd hire him for anything he was willing to do at whatever price he wanted, I'd love to have him as a neighbor, golfing buddy, dinner guest or anything else at which he could tolerate me.

Just by the by, I don't want to hang around with white supremacists, neo-Nazis or rabid liberals of any color. Does that make me racist?

Question...
...If Obama were to be elected President, would he choose Wright to administer his oath of office on national TV?

Just asking.

THE MINDS OF WRIGHT/OBOMA
Let's play this as A WHITE GUY AND WHITE MINISTER .
I GO TO A KKK MINISTER THAT HATES BLACKS AND AMERICA WHO LIES TO SELL HIS POINTS AND MAKES ME OBVIOUSLY HATE BLACKS MORE .
I GO THERE FOR 20 YEARS , CALL HIM FAMILY , MENTOR , INSPIRATION , MARRY THERE .NOT ONLY THAT BUT MY 6 AND 8 OLD KIDS GO THERE .
OTHER THAN DAVID DUKE WHO WOULD VOTE FOR ME ?
NOT EVEN MY OWN WIFE , FRIENDS OR FAMILY MUCH LESS THINKING AMERICANS .
OBOMA AND HIS MINISTER ARE THE GREAT (R)DIVIDE THEMSELVES .
IF I WAS PREACHING MODERATION OF RACES .....
.I WOULD HAVE ''ATTENDED ""A CHURCH 180 DEGREE'S DIFFERENT THAT TAUGHT "MODERATION BETWEEN THE RACES NOT HATE OF AMERICA AND WHITE PEOPLE ! FRANKY OBOMA AS A TAX PAYER I AM TIRED OF THIS WHITE ARE THE DAMN PROBLEM BLACKS ARE NOT .

Mr.Right
I went through all the posts previous to yours. Thanks for making my sign-off a happy one with the best of the bunch. Amen and amen. My day starts now.

The Pot Calling the Kettle Black
The real and perceived sleights by some whites are not the reason black children are raised without black fathers. Those sleights are not the reason blacks are seven times more likely to commit homicide than whites.

It's time for American blacks to take responsibility for the decisions made in the black community. What blacks need to do to improve their lot in life is no different than what whites, Asians, and all other ethnic and racial groups need to do: abstain from sex until marriage, stay married, work full time, save money, buy a house, and otherwise follow the ten commandments.

Nam 65-66
I think the oath of office for POTUS is always done by the CJOTSC

boutte
scribbles:
"Thomas Sowell was a good Friedmanite economist, but he sure has let himself down since in old age he became the house negro of the Republican Party."

You liked that comment, huh? You are a pig, a racist, a bigot and a loser. Try to go get a life idiot! Its actually fun out here!

Mr Right
"My friends, we live in the greatest nation in the history of the world. I hope you'll join with me as we try to change it."
-- Barack Obama

Bout somes it up for me as well.

Change to what? SOCIALISM?

Obama's mindset, that of a racist
J. Wright is clearly a racist.
B. Obama supports, by his presence, his tithes and offerings, and his previous words, J. Wright.
If folks support racists, they are generally called racist themselves. So is Obama merely a fake racist?

Get Real
Those of you who use the Obama didn't know defense are p155ing into the wind. I have been logging on to this web site for about a year and a half and can tell you what this blogger or that blogger thinks based on his/her posts. Don't tell me BHO set in that church for 20 years listening to that man and wasn't aware of what he was saying. In all fairness Rev Wright says some things which are true however going over the top and blaming rich white people for poverty in other parts of the world is nonsense. Africa isn't poor because America is rich Africa is poor because the people there lacked the skill to extract the minerals, clear the land, and build a civilization and this goes double with American Indians. I am not middle class because Bill Gates is rich I am middle class because I am not smart enough to invent an operating system that the world would beat a path to my door to have. Quit blaming other people for your lack of success and do something about it. The real question concerning this issue is how much of this does BHO believe and will he use this when governing?

The damning line
I have not seen it mentioned anywhere, but to me the most damning line of the speech was:
"This union may never be perfect, but generation after generation has shown that it can always be perfected."

Aside from being a non sequitur the line shows a clear tendency towards utopianism, which is a central principle of Marxism. This feeling (rather than logic) gives rise to the hate speech and conspiracy theories of Rev. Wright.

Obama Doubletalk
The videos of Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr. are for sell from the church library. This egotistical man is not ashamed of his diatribes of pure Racism against America, whites and Jews. He has retired from TUCC, but on occasion, he will preach a sermon for some extra pocket change.

Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright, Jr., "The government gives them drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants to sing 'God Bless America. No, no, no, not 'God Bless America' -- 'God Damn America.” FULL STORY:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/politics

"I understand MSNBC has suspended Mr. Imus," Obama told ABC News, "but I would also say that there's nobody on my staff who would still be working for me if they made a comment like that about anybody of any ethnic group. And I would hope that NBC ends up having that same attitude." FULL STORY:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=3031317&page=1

Senator Obama will destroy our military and surrender to al Qaeda in Iraq and round the world. He wants to have tea with Iran’s Ahmadinejad and Syria’s Asad and make friends with Osama, Hamas, Hezbollah, Fatah and all the Jihadists who want kill all infidels and swap some ideas on how to bring about ?peace with Israel.

He wants to tip a glass of rum and smoke a good Cuban cigar with Raul and Fidel of Cuba, Hugo of Venezuela and the other Latin American despots to discuss the merits of Socialism. He wants to bring change to Washington, D.C. by raising taxes on everyone who earns a living, tax corporate America into bankruptcy, he wants to leave Social Security alone to finance entitlements his Socialist ideas.

His “Global Poverty Act” sends $845 billion to the UN to feed, clothe, shelter, educate, medicate and arm Third World Muslim countries and others who hate America.

Either or
I like what Newt Gingrich said about the speech -
Either Barack is lying if he maintains he didn't know until recently what Rev. Wright's political attitudes are, or Barack didn't have the courage to go to Rev. Wright and tell him how his racist attitude was wrong.
If it's the first, then he isn't qualified to be President; if it's the second, then he doesn't have to courage to stand up to foreign leaders and tell them what his convictions are.

Poretto, you missed the point
Sowell's mention of Obama's dis-invitation of Wright to the invocation of his run for POTUS was only meant to show that Obama cannot claim he was unaware of Wright's controversial nature. For Obama to claim that NOW he knows, but he didn't back then, is nothing but damage control and a LIE!

Let's reverse this for a minute
Suppose material comes up on McCain's Pastor/friend/mentor of 20 years in the pulpit spewing Aryan White Supremicist stuff.
How God damned Africans because they are of the devil. Same kind of stuff Wright says only reversed.

How long do you think McCain would last? How fast would he have to withdraw from the race? And he already has the nomination. I give him a week, maybe two weeks before he would resign. And that's just one side of Wright's persona, he also is virilantly anti-American.

The African-American motiff of, I'm okay, you're a racist routine just doesn't wash anymore.

Please someone remind
Obama and his pastor that America did not enslave black people because America did not exist until the late 1700's. These two 'hate whiteys and hate America' don't understand that it was the Queen of England that brought slaves to America. Within 75 years, America ended it with death of hundreds of thousands of 'whitey's. Get your reparations from England.

On Town Hall Today
There are ten articles about Obama today on T.H. and not one covering the most important news concerning our war in Iraq.

BAGHDAD, March 13 -- Iraqi leaders have failed to take advantage of a reduction in violence to make adequate progress toward resolving their political differences, Gen. David H. Petraeus, the top U.S. commander in Iraq, said Thursday.

Petraeus, who is preparing to testify to Congress next month on the Iraq war, said in an interview that "no one" in the U.S. and Iraqi governments "feels that there has been sufficient progress by any means in the area of national reconciliation," or in the provision of basic public services.

Lz
That isn't true.

LzVandy
Excellent point I never thought of before; how is it that radical blacks blame whites for enslaving them, but never mention, much less memorialize, the hundreds of thousands of whites who died in the Civil War to free the slaves?

Nice Work, T. Sowell
Of course, BHO's speech could be summarized before he even made the speech. He had no alternative but to make a "speech." Read the words, pause at the marker, and apply the emphasis where noted -- speeches. Please note that there was a comment that Michelle Obama cried when the speech was done. Fawning, bowing, crying, kiss-the-hand stuff. BHO has not said what I wanted, that he is going to a different church, where he will hear words of good, not evil. And talk of setting the US back in our racial history. BHO has done it all by himself. Well, almost. Wright has a church full of people who are cheering, clapping, standing, back-slapping at every crazy accusation and lie. Could Barack find a black church that is on an even keel? I'm sure that he could have but I do not delve into church's motive. Long ago I gave up two after they started hinting at the stuff that Wright preaches.

Geedunk
was a big deal. When we moved from our beginning barracks in San Diego after about three weeks, we got ones where we could spend some change and buy geedunk. It's not to be confused with geoduck, however.

Boutte, what column did you read?
Sowell did not compare Obama's misteps with Watergate. He only said that Obama will be asked the same question Nixon was asked, namely, what did he know and when did he know it. Have you ever had your reading comprehension checked? It might do you some good.

Michael Brown
Do " virilantly anti-American" people usually join the marines during a war? He gets mad about the plight of Black people in America, surprise surprise. 1 in 9 young Black kids are in prison and it's easier sometimes to blame someone els. This isn't Obama's style, as anyone who bothers to listen to im knows. He thinks Black's should be better parents and take up the responsibiliy of the drug problem as something they themselves are responsible for.

Proud that he threw his white grandmother under the bus to try to maintain his political viability? How sad is that? And what does it say about Obama's supporters that they are proud of it?

If he'd sell out his own family, he'd sell out his country.

Is this what your talking about?

"Martin offered no evidence for any of his allegations, other than quoting from a March 27 Chicago Tribune article, which reported that "the Obama campaign declined to make Madelyn Dunham, 84, available" for an interview and referring to a New York Times article in which, according to Martin, "Dunham told the New York Times she was not well enough to speak." That Times article, published on March 17, reported that "Obama still visits his maternal grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who lives in the same high-rise apartment where Mr. Obama spent much of his childhood. 'I'm not well,' she said on the telephone, explaining her refusal to meet for an interview."

Obama made a wonderful speech!!!
However, Just like his other wonderful speeches, it was all a bunch of Poetic Crap!

He basically said that he can understand how his Pastor can be a American Hating, White Hating Racist.

Because his grandmother was a Racist, and Geraldine Ferraro is a Racist, and Talk show host are racist.

You see, his Pastor is just another victim of the Racist, Bigot society that envelopes all of America.

But in the 20 years of listening to his Pastors hate speech, he has learned how to bridge the gap between the Racist Black Victims and the Guilty White Racist Bigots!

Just like he has learned to work with Republicans in bipartisanship by consistently voting against them on every major issue.

And as the true Socialist Liberal that he is, he ended his speech telling us we need to tax the hell out of the greedy white racist, along with all other people that work, and use it to provide social programs for the Victims.

As Usual He did not say "GOD BLESS YOU" or "GOD BLESS AMERICA"

How Telling!

P.S. I want some GEDUNK!

Interesting yet typical response from Sowell. No suprise there. I'm just curious if he actually read Shelby Steele's most recet book. Shelby insists that Obama can't win the nomination as well as the presidency. He is likely wrong on the nomnation (unless Hillary goes nuclear on my beloved party)as well as with the presidential campaign. Just wanted to point that out.

As for christheprofessor from DeVry, I must ask how did Obama through his grandmother under the bus? By stating a flaw in her character? Did he say h rejected her as a person? Have you read his 1st book? Did you even read the speech?

Guess what, sometimes family memebers say the most racist things imaginable. I just wrote a blog piece on that in my family. My grandfather was anti semitic. My other grandfather was a sexist. My great grandfather hated African Americans and Italians with a passion.

Am I throwing them under the bus? No. Do I hate them or not love them? Of coursenot. Just pointing out their flaws.

Obama's Lies
For years I've had to listen to the "Bush lied, people died" mantra, despite the dearth of evidence of any Bush lies about WMD's. Many of these same people are now saying that one speech by Obama counteracts twenty years of his own behavior. Please. There is now more available evidence indicating that Obama is lying than there is about any supposed Bush lies. Obama lied, let's hope his candidacy just died.

b Hussain"s
first inclination is to LIE. How big and how many depend on how quickly the TRUTH is exposed.
How can anyone trust ANYTHING he has to say since it all is said for the same purpose... his own agrandizement.

Talk about liars
"Fox News' Sean Hannity and Brit Hume falsely asserted that Sen. Barack Obama's church, in Hannity's words, "deleted the Black Value System from [its] website," a claim put forth by conservative media outlets on March 16. But as FoxNews.com noted, a link to the tenets of the Black Value System can be found on the front page, "where it says 'Click here to read about the Black Value System.' "

Did anybody just hear that?
If you're wondering what that sound was, it was the sound Obama's grandmother makes as the bus he threw her under rolls over her.

Funny how similar it sounds to large amounts of hot air being released from Obama's campaign balloons.

Sorry Ralphy, you're wrong!
Obama "through" (threw) his grandmother, the woman who raised and nurtured him, under the bus by associating with someone who hates her simply because of the difference in her skin tone. If he didn't agree with Wright, he shouldn't have called him a close friend, mentor, and spiritual advisor.

You see, as one of thirteen children, we used to pick on each other like crazy. I could and would say all kinds of derogatory things about my family, parents included. But as soon as someone else did, it was a war.

So, tell me Ralph, would you allow me to say derogatory things about your family? Could I rag on them and call the names? I would hope that wouldn't be okay with you. If you don't have that same defensive posture about your family, well, I feel sorry for your family.

Taft
No, I'm referring to his comment during the speech that he cringed when his white grandmother admitted to being afraid when encountering blacks on the street (Jesse Jackson made a similar comment about a decade ago, if you recall), as he had when she made other comments that were racially or ethnically insensitive (my term, I can't recall his exact wording).

My point is that I find it disgusting that he would drag his grandmother (white, black, red, green, whatever color) through the mud in a pathetic attempt to defend that racist Wright and salvage his campaign hopes.

As I said above, if he'll sell out his own grandmother (who, as he admitted sacrificed for him time and time again), he'll sell the country out.

Taft writes of style
As an US citizen and proud of my country, I'm more concerned with substance. Style doesn't protect us as citizens.

Oh! What are you trying to imply with the followind statement?

Do " virilantly anti-American" people usually join the marines during a war?

Ralph
Struck a nerve, eh?

Since you can't respond without first insulting, I see no point in reading further into your drivel, let alone responding to it.

Snap Out Of It Obamaheads
Facts:

1. Obama is half white and specifically CHOSE this radical church, out of the multitudes of churches in Chicago.

2. Mr. Uniter and Change could have chosen a church that catered to all people, whites, blacks, Asians...but no, he specifically CHOSE a radical anti-white and anti-American church.

3. Pastor Wright married Obama and Michelle, he baptized their children, he blessed Obama's house, Obama's book Audactiy of Hope was inspired by Pastor Wright, Obama stated Pastor Wright is his spiritual mentor, and Obama remained with him for 20 years.

4. Obama's Pocket-Oprah was a member of Pastor Wright's church in 1984 and IMMEDIATELY left because of his racist and radical preaching.

5. Obama stated last year, on the Imus case, that if anyone of his staff members spoke like Imus, he would fire them.

6. Are you really serious thinking that during those 20 years and close relationship with this pastor (see #3) that only on the days Obama attended that church, did Pastor Wright behave like a normal preacher?!

7. Do you think Pastor Wright's opinion of white folk in America after 911 convinced Obama not to wear a flag pin? He said he was embarrassed of our country, remember?!

8. Why was Pastor Wright, who convinced Obama to run for president, was taken off Obama's staff for being too radical if Obama said he had no idea that he was radical to begin with?

9. And if Obama truly didn't know Pastor Wright was radical, just like he didn't know Rezko who contributed to Obama's campaign and received funds from an Iraqi who is on the pentagon's most wanted list--doesn't this prove to you Obama's lack in good sense and judgement, especially if he were to be president against foreign enemies? "Gee, I didn't know the head of Iran would lie to us....give me two days to give a flowery speech after someone writes it for me and I'll explain it in a way to lull you to sleep..."

WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robert:

You're budget was out of balance due to Clinton's recession when Bush took the oath of office for the first time. We "darn near" lost Iraq, what does that mean? "American power has been badly spent"--another platitude that means nothing.

Try again, Robert. I don't speak liberal.

And About Granny Under The Bus
Why did he reference his white grandmother who raised him when he also should have mentioned his white mother who also raised him?

I can answer.

To distance himself further away from a white bloodline to appease the radicals who follow Pastor Wright's word.

Chains....
....You are absolutely right. What I should have said was "Give the convocation".

Thank you.

Shells
Good point. Only whites, after all, can be racist.

FROG pt.1
"Obama "through" (threw) his grandmother, the woman who raised and nurtured him, under the bus by associating with someone who hates her simply because of the difference in her skin tone."

I apologize for the misspelling. Also, what Obama did was talk about the unfortunate remarks that close friends/family members sometimes make. Also, did Jeremiah Wright ever say that he hates white people? Indeed, why has his numerous white friends/congregants/acquaintances defended him on this point. Unless you believe all these whites suffer from "white guilt" and are lying.

"If he didn't agree with Wright, he shouldn't have called him a close friend, mentor, and spiritual advisor."

Do you actually think Obama agrees with his former pastor on everything? Do you? Do you appy the same standard for John Hagee and Rod Parsley when it comes to John McCain?

"You see, as one of thirteen children, we used to pick on each other like crazy. I could and would say all kinds of derogatory things about my family, parents included. But as soon as someone else did, it was a war."

13 children. Damn!

WOBBIE
that was a great response to the article. moron

Jerimiah Wright
I am proud to say I am a 57 year old white woman who agrees completly with Thomas Sowell!!! This gives me hope because it makes me feel we are really looking beyond the color of skin.

Frog pt.2
"So, tell me Ralph, would you allow me to say derogatory things about your family?"

It depends who the family member is and if what you are saying is based on truth. My mother? hell no. My cousin Peter? Go ahead.

"Could I rag on them and call the names?"

"rag"? You mean joke. Yes up to a certain point.

"I would hope that wouldn't be okay with you."

If you were to say that "Ellison, your grandfather doesn't like Jewish people does he?" I would find that acceptable and explain to you why he is wrong.

"If you don't have that same defensive posture about your family, well, I feel sorry for your family"

In my family, we always valued truth. It takes true love to criticize you loved ones when they are wrong. To allow them to make mistakes isn't love, it is sick complacency.

It sounds like you would allow a family memeber to do drugs in front of you, but if your neighbor calls that family member a "meth head", I get the impression you would attack that concerned neighbor instead of addressing the real issue.

HongKongCharlie
I'm referring to when Jeremiah Wright joined the marines, not drafted.

American Guilt
American Guilt
This is the game Obama's playing. Sorry it's not going to work. the Chicago tribs John Cass had an excellent article on Obama's speech.Obama was saying: "I love Wright, who is black. I love my grandmother, who is white. Would you have me damn my own beloved grandmother by damning Wright, as he damned the United States"? Some pretty sick stuff.

Not-so-Surprising fallacies
I was not so surprised to hear Obama repeat the oft stated fallacies of how blacks could not succeed in America before the Civil Rights Movement because of the lasting effects of slavery and the inherently inferior nature of the segregated schools prior to Brown v. Board of Education. However, having read "Black Rednecks and White Liberals" I knew better than to believe what he was saying... and thus I saw that part of the speech for what it really was: the same old tired "victimology" card the liberals play every election.

How are you my dear?

Also, you said why didn't he mention his mother?

" am the son of a black man from Kenya and a white woman from Kansas. I was raised with the help of a white grandfather who survived a Depression to serve in Patton's Army during World War II and a white grandmother who worked on a bomber assembly line at Fort Leavenworth while he was overseas. I've gone to some of the best schools in America and lived in one of the world's poorest nations. I am married to a black American who carries within her the blood of slaves and slaveowners - an inheritance we pass on to our two precious daughters. I have brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, uncles and cousins, of every race and every hue, scattered across three continents, and for as long as I live, I will never forget that in no other country on Earth is my story even possible."

He actually mentioned his mother and his whole family.

You didn't hear/read the speech did you? Be honest baby.

Shells
1. Yes he chose this church, he turned down high paying jobs to work in the community, and this church was the most active in doing good works in the community. Often a pastor is secondary to why a person goes to church.

Shells baby
Mya I respond to your 9 point diatribe on my blog?

These 2000 character limits irk me.

BULL PUCKY

No wonder Michelle Obama hadn't been proud of America until now.

"...but no, he specifically CHOSE a radical anti-white and anti-American church."

Shells, don't you think thats far fetched? The reverend blew his top when Hillary was going on about MLK, I've seen people on your side loose their temper after hearing her too. Whites have been and are very welcome to go to his church, period.

Maybe it's Ralph "Waldo" Ellison?
Since I equate "Waldo" as being synonomous with doofus, I dub you Sir Ralph WALDO Ellison. Boutte's comments about comparing Obama to Watergate did not make "since" (sense). As I pointed out earlier (see my post of 8:27am), Sowell DID NOT compare Obama's situation with Watergate. He merely used the famous line of "What did he know and when did he know it?" Hardly the same as a comparison.

Also, you are correct about Boutte's comments being racist, but not Sarah's. The reason? Sowell is an independant thinker who happens to mostly fall on the conservative side. Sorry that those opinions offend you and Boutte, but he is not a slave to any side. However, as politically incorrect as it may be, Obama is a "house negro" because has not strayed far from the Democrat plantation and does a great job of toeing the party line while kissing up to his masters. So Sarah's characterization, while crude, is accurate.

nellie
what kool-aid are you drinking?

Robert
I have to say, Hannity tried his hardest to get McCain, in a Fox interview, to join in the hate feeding frenzy, but he with much dignity said he thought it was all baloney and that he's spoken with Obama many times and thinks he's a good person.

Obama's background
Sowell writes:

"For whatever reason, Barack Obama chose a black extremist church decades ago -- even though there was no shortage of very different churches, both black and white -- in Chicago.

Some say that he was trying to earn credibility on the ghetto streets, to facilitate his work as a community activist or for his political career. We may never know why."

I'm glad Dr. Sowell noted the selection of churches available. Obama lied in his speech yesterday; Dr. Wright does not represent the normal black church. I've attended plenty of black churches, and have served under 3 different black pastors; none of them embraced the racist-laced Marxism of Dr. Wright.

Obama himself is the child of Marxist activists, was mentored by Marxist activists, hung around college with the radicals, went to work for Marxist organizers, and, we now know, attended church with the radicals as well. Obama is not a traditional liberal; he's a neo-Marxist radical.

I've written some about this on my blog. See "Barack Obama: Communist???" at http://www.plumbbobblog.com/?p=215, and my comments about his speech at http://www.plumbbobblog.com/?p=244.

For christtheprofessor
You wrote about Obama: "If he'd sell out his own family, he'd sell out his country".

I do hope that it doesn't come to where the US would vote in as top leader who DOESN't EVEN PRETEND to love the country, as did its northern neighbour (which actually honoured such a leader by renaming an airport--in this case Dorval in Montreal--after him).

Robert
You are very mistaken, Obama was an active member of this church for not 1 yr or 5yrs but 20yrs!!!!! He absolutely is lying he knew exactly what his pastor is all about!!! I can tell you most Americans Today who are Church Members that participate by baptism, tithing, and working in their church either agree with their Pastor or they leave!!!! If my Pastor who I love dearly began using the "N" word I would walk out immediately!!! Racial Bigotry absolutely does not belong in the House of God!!! I am so glad America for the most part has moved along way from Slavery and Jim Crowe!! Many Churches today are mixed black, white, asian, hispanic, etc etc. Sorry Obama is a Racist Pig who absolutely does not belong anywhere in Gov't, especially in the White House!!!

Obama = Clinton
As we know, most politictions shift with the wind. This latest episode explains the real man. In order for one to think highly enough of his pastor to perform his marriage ceromony and the baptising of his children. One would have to believe in his pastor. Obama is spinning. Sound familiar. A man of convictions: What do people think?

The company we keep.
"tell me who your friends are and I'll tell you who you are".

I'll go one step furthur. Show me the Preacher of a church, and I'll tell you what everyone in that church is like and believes!! They follow the man for a reason. And follow the man they do. I know.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
I've heard many Anti-American, Liberal, Socialist commentators comparing Obama's speech to Dr. Martin Luther King's.

I'm so glad our that the media can be objective and would not try to push their Socialist agenda!

HA!

To compare Obama's speech to Dr. Kings speech is kind of like comparing a pile of Horse $hit to Filet Mignon.

Dr. King preached equality.

Obama preaches victimization.

Dr. King wanted fairness.

Obama wants Preference.

Dr. King loved America.

Obama despises America.

If Obama gets the Democrat Nomination, John McCain will be the next President.

Once again the Democrats snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Here is what Mrs. Obama 'really' said.

"thing is overblown but a big difference is that Hagee and Parsley are not McCain's preacher."

True enough. However, Wright is no longer Obama's pastor either.

As for McCain, he states now he has belonged to the North Phoenix Baptist Church. However, he also stated to some news outlets that he was indeed Episcopalian and even alluded to the fact that he wasn't yet baptized into his present church; his wife and 2 kids have.

He also did call Rod Parsley his "spiritual guide" and also said he is "proud" of John Hagee's support and endorsement.

I just think if you want Obama to distance himself from Wright(which he has rightly done already), should we not expect the same from a good honorable man like McCain?

(Sorry fellow libs, I don't hate John McCain)

Robert
Saddam Hussein is dead and gone, and no longer terrorizing his own people.

This is something you guys on the left refuse to understand. Iraq under Hussein was a threat, recognized by both political parties and most of the international community. This is "one thing" Bush had done right. I also recall two free elections in Iraq, in which hundreds of thousands of people stood in line for hours, risking their lives, to exercise the right we take for granted in the U.S. This had not happened in Iraq in decades. I also see free markets opening up in what was once a totalitarian country living under the boot of a vicious dictator.

Sorry Robert, you are off-base. Plenty has gone right in Iraq. Stop listening to the mainstream press for once and truly compare what Iraq was versus what it is. Recent polls indicate that Iraqis agree they are better off now than under Saddam. "Thank You USA" - That was the sign held up by an Iraqi woman right after Hussein's regime fell. If only the American left fel the same way. Goodbye Robert.

my 2 cents
Fact: On Sunday September 16, 2001 Wright gave a "America had it coming!!!" speech.

No matter WHERE bo was on that day there is no way he could not have heard of that speech. If he was not at that service and tells us that that being the case he never knew about the speech he is, quite simply, lying.

Now, 6 1/2 years later after that day, in the midst of a heated primary season that speech - among others - comes to light.

If you believe he knew nothing about that speech you will believe anything he says.

Personally - He has a lot of presence, he has a terrific speaking voice and he is very eloquent, but - and this is a question I have asked many times - is there any THERE there?

BTW - Comparing Obama/Wright to McCain and Rob Parsley and John Hagee and the like is idiotic - were McCain and his wife married in front of either of them? Does McCain go to their church? Did either one of those yahoos baptize his children?

Obama, NOT a uniter.

Thank you, Dr. Sowell... again.

Folks, racism is racism... REGARDLESS where it comes from. And it is always wrong. Always.

To all the race-baiters, black or white; shame on you.

double standards abound....
when "race" is talked about. Even though I nor any of my family have ever done anything even remotely prejudiced against blacks, I am always aware that I cannot treat a black person the same as anyone else. If I pass by a black person in the grocery isle whom I have never met and say "hello" as I do to any other human being, I am met with either a glare or totally ignored.

So many blacks do not want to be treated as equals, they want to be treated special. I believe this is due in large part because they have been indoctrinated for so long by the likes of Jackson and Sharpton and Rev. Wright.

There are just as many white folks who are susceptible to this sort of indoctrination as there are blacks. The majority of any race will always look for the path of least resistance. Then there are those in all races who will strive to overcome resistance and reach for something better.

Resistance and adversity of one kind or another plagues all individuals and for some becomes their excuse for their lack of achievement while others find ways to excel in spite of it.

The "human" race have all things in common. Each race within the human race may have trials and adversity unique to their race but whether you are black, white or purple your own personal headache will be worse in your opinion than someone else's headache because your cannot feel the pain in their head.

There always have been and always will be people who exploit the pain of others, whatever it is, claiming they can feel it and use it to their own benefit.

BHO is one of those people and he does it so eloquently and so well that many actually believe he can feel their pain and that he can "fix" it.

Will is easily impressed

Will said: “This is obviously one for the history books.”

Clearly it doesn’t take much to impress a liberal.

The problem with Obama’s speech is that it tries to give a satisfactory explanation to something for which there is no satisfactory explanation. What kind of an unprincipled person chooses to sit through this hateful garbage year after year? Indeed, what can we say about the judgment of a man who would invite a lunatic like Wright to officiate at his wedding and at the baptism of his children? Unfortunately for Obama he can’t “move on” from what he really is. His actions speak louder than his words.

All thoughtfulness aside, though, should we be surprised that the Left is swooning – yet again – over Obama’s speech?

Obama is All Wet
Only his apoligists will defend him now, the people who would defend him regardless what he does or says. This is all identity politics in action. The media has helped to create this new savior for the masses, and the media will not let him fall easily--not before he is president anyway. No American president should ever be associated with a church such as this one in question here. Let Obama's followers be blind; let's hope enough of us see the light. All of the defenders in these postings are changing the subject to defend Obama. Stick to the subject: The man went to a racist, anti-American church for twenty years, donated > $20K to that church, had the racist preacher perform his marriage ceremony and baptise his kids. Those are the facts. Everything else is just noise.

svpallava
I agree completely.

btw, it's christheprofessor (not christtheprofessor) -- I'm good, but not that good!

Frobusto asks:
"Can you name a single thing bush has done correct in Iraq?"

Yes - he didn't appoint Frobusto as "master and commander" of Centcom...

My Last Word for Today
I guess the First Black President, Slick Willie, didn't get it done, did he? So what is it that he did for the African (a.k.a African-Americans) population in the US?

Let us all pray for people like Sowell
In his speech, Obama openly admitted that he had heard his pastor say things that would be considered controversial in the general public. He stated that he had not heard the extreme things that have been recently cherry picked and played repeatedly in the media, but he heard things that would be considered radical nonetheless. Despite this obvious moment of truth and transparency in the speech by Obama, Sowell takes no time in his column to discuss that distinction that was made by Obama. Instead, Sowell spends more and more time adding more and more doubt and suspicion to Obama’s character and association with Wright, even though Obama clearly answered many of these questions in his speech.

Despite Obama’s recent transparency on this issue, Sowell in an underhanded way still equates Obama’s questioned relationship with his pastor, to Richard Nixon’s Watergate scandal, and Soviet communism and intolerance of 1930’s. Sowell then adds the cherry on top by likening Obama supporters to “useful idiots” who need to be kept “useful”, and so callously suggested that Obama’s speech was an attempt to do this. It’s amazing that Sowell constantly calls others demagogues while engaging in his own form of thinly veiled demagoguery and smear tactics for his employers on the right. It’s amazing that Sowell would smear his American and African American brother in that manor for his own economic gains. I think Sowell should be prayed for not praised.

Lastly, has anyone taken the time to understand that the media has searched for the most provocative excerpts of Rev Wright to play on television, while ignoring the vast amount of his teachings that cover 40 year period? Why have we not seen any of his positive sermons in the media? Why have we not been given a comprehensive examination of Rev Wright, opposed to the character assassination we have been given in the media.

Race relations in our country.

I disagree with Obama on many issues, yet this speech open up dialogue that could transcend race relations in our country.

I was very touched by his story about his white grandmother. I am Jewish and my wife is Christian and her grandparents made comments with similar insensitive type tone about Jews in front of me. Yet when they were alive they treated me like their own son.

I had many mix feelings about what they said and how they open their hearts to me. It was comforting to know and refreshing that America can have this real conversation about race and religion.

Uncle Max
"BTW - Comparing Obama/Wright to McCain and Rob Parsley and John Hagee and the like is idiotic - were McCain and his wife married in front of either of them? Does McCain go to their church? Did either one of those yahoos baptize his children?"

I agree. The relationships are different. Wright loves this man like an uncle. I don't think McCain loves Hagee or Parsley in such a way.

However, shouldn't McCain distane himself just like Obama has done when it comes to Parsley and Hagee? Does there presence as well as their past comments automatically offend Muslims, Catholics, and GLBT Americans? Should the same standard be applied to McCain as it was to Obama?

"God DAMN America!"
If you've been on the business end of injustice, you feel it. It becomes an integral part of you. Even Huckabee is willing to cut Rev. Wright some slack.

Shame on you Sowell!
People ask: Why didn't he leave that church?

This question is based on the assumption that those snippets are all there is to Rev Wright, and all there is to Trinity Church. And to take such unyeilding positions on the man and the church, based on so little information, is a sign of a severe deficiency in critical thinking skills. Just imagine if the whole world knew nothing about you except thirty seconds of film of you in your worst, weakest moments. How would you feel about that?

Thomas Sowell knows exactly what he is doing here. He is exploiting your ignorance. He knows that all too many of you are all too eager to assume the worst about Obama and his church, and he's taking full advantage of it.

Thomas Sowell is the classic definition of a demagogue: one who appeals to the emotions and the prejudices of his audience.

he said it well himself: "... a con man's job is not to convince skeptics but to enable people to continue to believe what they already want to believe."

Shame on you Sowell, you shameless demagogue!

Slavery in America
Taft, LzVandy does not lie.

Chronology Of The History Of Slavery: 1619-1789

1619
The other crucial event that would play a role in the development of America was the arrival of Africans to Jamestown. A Dutch slave trader exchanged his cargo of Africans for food in 1619.

Why do you liberalsl never have any actual facts?
