Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

With all the problems facing this country, both in Iraq and at home, why is Congress spending time trying to pass a resolution condemning the massacre of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire nearly a century ago?

Make no mistake about it, that massacre of hundreds of thousands -- perhaps a million or more -- Armenians was one of the worst atrocities in all of history.

As with the later Holocaust against the Jews, it was not considered sufficient to kill innocent victims. They were first put through soul-scarring dehumanization in whatever sadistic ways occurred to those who carried out these atrocities.

Historians need to make us aware of such things. But why are politicians suddenly trying to pass Congressional resolutions about these events, long after all those involved are dead and after the Ottoman Empire in which all these things happened no longer exists?

The short answer is irresponsible politics.

People of Armenian ancestry in the United States and around the world are justifiably outraged at what happened in the Ottoman Empire -- and at subsequent governments in Turkey which have refused to acknowledge or accept historical responsibility for the mass atrocities that took place on their soil.

But the sudden interest of Congressional Democrats in this issue goes beyond trying to pick up some votes.

They want a resolution to condemn what happened as "genocide" -- a word that provokes instant anger among today's Turks, since genocide means a deliberate government policy aimed at exterminating a whole people, as distinguished from horrors growing out of a widespread breakdown of law and order in the Ottoman Empire during the First World War.

These are issues of historical facts and semantics best left to scholars rather than politicians.

If Congress has gone nearly a century without passing a resolution accusing the Turks of genocide, why now, in the midst of the Iraq war?

It is hard to avoid the conclusion that this resolution is just the latest in a series of Congressional efforts to sabotage the conduct of that war.

Large numbers of American troops and vast amounts of military equipment go to Iraq through Turkey, one of the few nations in the Islamic Middle East that has long been an American ally.

Turkey has also thus far refrained from retaliating against guerrilla attacks from the Kurdish regions of Iraq onto Turkish soil. But the Turks could retaliate big time if they chose.

There are more Turkish troops on the border of Iraq than there are American troops within Iraq.

Turkey has already recalled its ambassador from Washington to show its displeasure over Congress' raising this issue. The Turks may or may not stop at that.

In this touchy situation, why stir up a hornet's nest over something in the past that neither we nor anybody else can do anything about today?

Japan has yet to acknowledge its atrocities from the Second World War. Yet the Congress of the United States does not try to make worldwide pariahs of today's Japanese, most of whom were not even born when those atrocities occurred.

Even fewer, if any, Turks who took part in attacks on Armenians during the First World War are likely to still be alive.

Too many Democrats in Congress have gotten into the habit of treating the Iraq war as President Bush's war -- and therefore fair game for political tactics making it harder for him to conduct that war.

In a rare but revealing slip, Democratic Congressman James Clyburn said that an American victory in Iraq "would be a real big problem for us" in the 2008 elections.

Unwilling to take responsibility for ending the war by cutting off the money to fight it, as many of their supporters want them to, Congressional Democrats have instead tried to sabotage the prospects of victory by seeking to micro-manage the deployment of troops, delaying the passing of appropriations -- and now this genocide resolution that is the latest, and perhaps lowest, of these tactics.

Sloopy, grow up
Fraudulent lies? As opposed to truthful lies? It's stupidity like this that makes the grown-ups ignore you. Of course, you have no proof, but then again what has proof mattered to people like you? Even if Saddam weren't developing WMDs it was still a good thing we invaded Iraq. But no, that's not the narrative. You've got to mitigate Hillary's votes in the Senate that twice authorized the President to use military force in the protraction of the War on Terror into Iraq. She was misled, right?

This political strategy of the Democrats is completely absurd, and it hinges completely on people like you to believe every word they say, particularly when they contradict themselves. Rather than cheer and rally for an American victory and Iraqi prosperity, the Democrats are committing reprehensible acts of treason. The President has been very nice to the Democrats when he has absolutely no right or warrant to be. Rather than pocketing Bush's immense generosity and realizing their own stupidity, they continue down their treasonous path to gin up animus among their base against the President, the Military, and the Nation as a whole. Who wants to be a part of that?

Hang 'em High
.

Brilliant Strategy
Seems to me Iraq is like a huge Terrorist Electro-Magnet... Pulling Islamo-Fascists into our brave troops gunsights! Turn up the power!!!!

And our stomping of said Islamo-Fascists (in Iraq) makes the ones living in our midsts have second thoughts about attacks on American soil...

Brilliant Strategy!!!

Anthony T
Fraudulent intelligence aside, if a certain President, from '92-00, had not slashed the intelligence budget every year. Perhaps we would have better real time intelligence available.

It is a fact, Saddam did have and used chemical weapons against civillians in and out of his country. Saddam did his best to obscure the traces of what WMDs he had, as that 13,000 page document showed. Saddam wanted us to believe he still had WMDs, in poker this is called a bluff. He got called.

BTW; the WAR in Iraq is Over, has been since 2003. It is the Rebuilding in Irag that is ongoing.

Thomas Sowell....
Is one of my Present Heroes and should be acknowledged as one of the most truthful and honest journalist of the Century. I read his articles religiously and he is always right on target. The fact he is Black is not and will never be an issue for me and for countless of thousands of Americans. Again, Mr. Sowell has demonstrated what I have been saying for several years, which is "The Demonrats are America's Greatest Threat and Enemy of Today". Their Actions have made this abundantly clear several times over. Treasonous Traitors should be shot and that is what these Demonrats in Congress deserve and merit, again based upon their numerous instances and actions. How can one be so dumb and idiotic to vote for these Scumbags is beyond me. Our Fathers and Forefathers fought, bled, and died fighting against Communism and Socialism and against that which these present day Demonrats stand for and propose.

Why should Democrats care what we think?
Why would the treasonous Democrats care in the least about what any of us think about their sedition? They get away with anything and everything they do. They are never called to account for any of their actions, big or small.

The idiot we have as President never says anything to them nor ever uses his influence as a bully pulpit. He is totally worthless so they have no fear whatsoever of him. The media support them and give them cover.

They won't be satisfied until they have totally destroyed every ideal and institution we have that has made us great. Rather than the Democrat Party, they should be referred to as the Demolition Party because that's exactly what they are doing. And the Chimpmeister is aiding and abetting their work while destroying our party for a generation in the process. God help us when our own government deliberately tries to sabotage our efforts in a time of war thinking only of their own potential gain. Someday they all will be forced to bow to the East and pray 6 times a day. They will be too scared to defame THAT religion.

How do you defend the indefensable?
Why you come on here and try to spread outrageous lies about Bush, about the first gulf war, and about the second war. The typical communist(D) technique that was handed down from Uncle Joe Stalin, the big lie.

I too, find it reprehensible
that we invaded a sovereign nation based on fraudulent distortions and lies. Those are the worst kind! Why, when I think back on all the stupid things I've been suckered into doing based on fraudulent lies, it just really gets my goat.

Or did you mean
that only the troops that fought in the Pacific, oops, scratch that, in JAPAN are above reproach?

If I understand Anthony Thomas,
when he says:

"Sir please do not dare compare WW2 to the Iraq war. You do a disservice to the brave men that died during that war. We were directly attacked by the Japanese in WW2. This is why we got involved in WW2. Who attacked us on 911?"

what he is trying to say is that he supports the troops, even if they are not worthy of being compared to troops who died fighting Germans after we were directly attacked by Japan. How DARE anyone compare these shiftless, immoral, dumb troops we have nowadays to such righteous warriors? Afterall, we weren't DIRECTLY attacked by Japan this time. These present day losers in our armed forces just don't get it.

Did I do a good job of summing that up for you, AT?

Anthony Doubting Thomas
Have you forgotten the terms that ended the first Gulf War? I guess that war was illegal, and Iraq really did not invade Kuwait and, eventually, attack Israel and Saudi Arabia. If all that had been real, instead of 'Hollywood', the second invasion of Iraq was perfectly legal, according to the peace terms of the first Gulf War. Oh, I forgot, that war was illegal, too. I gotta go throw up.

why no bipartisan foreign policy?
The answer is that for twelve years the neocons have governed with little or no bipartisan support. The Iraq war is president Bush's war and his congressional supporters. The neocons have given us whacky domestic policies that have mostly benefitted the rich. Now they want to call traitors those who do not support their whacky foreign policies!

Because Bush Promised

Washington, DC -- In a powerfully worded letter to two of his leading Armenian American supporters, Republican presidential hopeful Texas Governor George Bush acknowledged the Armenian Genocide, called on Americans to join with him in remembering the crime committed against the Armenian people, and pledged as President to ensure that the United States properly recognizes this terrible atrocity, reported the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA). Governor Bush's rival for the Republican nomination, Arizona Senator John McCain, has yet to speak out on Armenian issues. He has remained silent, in particular, on the Armenian Genocide, despite having received an unprecedented number of postcards from Armenian Americans as part of the ANCA's million postcard campaign to leading presidential candidates - including Governor Bush, Vice President Al Gore and former New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley.

The two hundred thousand postcards addressed to Sen. McCain ask him to explain his vote in 1990 against former Senator Bob Dole's Armenian Genocide resolution and, more recently, his 1999 vote to lift the Section 907 restrictions on U.S. aid to Azerbaijan, despite Azerbaijan's failure to lift its blockades of Armenia and Nagorno Karabagh. (For more information on the ANCA postcard campaign, visit http://www.anca.org.)

In a September 1998 speech in the U.S. Senate, McCain attacked a Congressionally approved ten million dollar aid package to the American University of Armenia as an "objectionable program," and a "serious diversion of scarce resources otherwise needed for truly worthy programs." (For more information on this speech, visit http://mccain.senate.gov/frop99ap.htm.)

"Exorcists" Needed
Democrats to America are like Delilah to Samson.

Men may repent, but the demon-possessed persons will not. To preach the gospel 2000 years ago, Jesus gave the disciples authority to drive out demons.

"He (Satan) was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him." (Rev. 12:9). That means that all the demons are on the earth now. What we lack are modern-day 'exorcists' like Thomas Sowell.

May I suggest a resolution
condemning the Democrats for the slaughter of nearly 70 million unborn American children, since we're being so "moral" and indignant.

Talk about genocidal maniacs...........

Well
We got what we deserved for the most part, Lousy governing by the republicans in the House and Senate led to a Democratic majority. This my friends is the political landscape in this country if a Democrat gets in the white house.

Anthony Thomas:

How courageous was it of Barack to speak out against the war, seeing as how he had that high-profile job before he went to Washington?

You do understand that he hasn't got a snowballs chance of winning the nomination.

Impact writes
"Ignorant public
Another thing the Dems are counting on and have for years is a public too ignorant and uncaring to grasp the ramifications no matter how much it is discussed."

Thanks to the wonderful folks of the NEA - and the dumbing down of our education system, kids can put a condom on a banana, but don'w know beans about history or economics, or government.

When is Janet Reno
going to be held accountable for the butchering of children, women & men in Waco? Democrats have no problem murdering American civilians, yet they defend their allies - socialist fascists (who also have no problem murdering Americans). The Democrats make Nazis look better than Democrats (though Barnie Franks & Adolph Hitler were both homosexuals).

Sand-bagging Democrats
There is no question that the Democrats are trying to sabotage the war effort in order to keep George Bush from having any success in Iraq, no matter what the cost to America.

During the Vietnam war, Nixon "turned the dogs loose" in Vietnam and was allowing our forces to run the war from the battle field and fight to win. The U.S. Army chased two-thirds of the regular NVA troops completely out of Vietnam and into Laos. This had the North Vietnamese ready to renew talks in Paris and possibly surrender. This was intolerable to Teddy Kennedy, since a win in Vietnam would mean success for Nixon. Kennedy went to Nixon and threatened to cut off funding of the war, unless Nixon ordered our troops to back off, erasing the postive gains we had made.
Nixon had no choice but to back down, strengthening the enemies will.

In the end Kennedy bragged about his ending the war by cutting off funding for our troops, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. He found it better (for the Democrats) to surrender, rather than allow Nixon a successful presidency. Once again, he did this with no consideration of the cost to our country.

I believe you can find an editorial in Time Magazine published early in Nixon's second term, urging Democrats to do "what ever necessary" to keep Nixon from having a successful presidency. The consensus was that a strong second term for Nixon would probably keep the Democrats out of The White House for a generation or more.

Sound familiar?

Mr. Sowell...please go and...
RUN FOR PRESIDENT ALREADY!

You'd get so much support it would be crazy.

Another great article by one of the greatest minds of our time!

If only I had half your intelligence.

The Democrats are so low that ........
The Democrats are so low that no one can even crawl under them; e.g., crawl under a rock! Or in some parts of the country, I'd say the Democrates are as low as a snake's belly! Sorry! I just could not help myself today! :-)

Condemnation
The Democratic attempt to condemn the Turkish govrenment for something that happened over a hundred years ago. That is interesting. Has the Republican party considered passing a condemnation of the Democratic Party for enslaving millions of blacks and then, when they were freed, spending another hundred years keeping them from having full citizenship rights? Bill D.

since the ghost of Fred Douglass has appointed me to shephard you into a full blown rational person, I will give you some to read; these are red blooded and intelligent americans; compare the writing style and how even in spite of difficulties and mistakes as in our current war, one does not lose sight of the goal. we try to help the disadvantaged in thinking. IF sadaam no imminent threat, then what about hanging nooses from a few telephone pools; that is no imminent threat; just trying to get your goat. What about we kill one black a year for racist reasons; that is not an imminent threat; after all, many more blacks die from crime from other blacks that is not racists.

So you will have to think somewhat. What about potential threat. Do you walk in certain area at 2 am; not an iminent threat, but potential. I wont go into the details to explain such to you, but you need to improve your reasoning ability, That is why I post: to help you; affirm action with no quotas.

Your posts are very emotional and heartfelt; but you have to learn to think clearly like Sowell, and Fred Douglass. I will keep trying to get you there.

No sir it was a mistake, all of our intelligence validates this now. Also what you are saying now is not what the Bush administration told us they were going into Iraq for.

drivebyposting
Thomas Sowell does not need a degree in political science to know what is going on. He is a historian, and his knowledge of history, nations and peoples eminently qualifies him to speak on this issue.

If you had half his intellect and knowledge, you would easily see that.

John Konop
“We’ve treated the Arab world as a collection of big gas stations,”

I get so sick of this. Only in the Middle East would people think that their customers are their enemy. So they think they have been treated like a big gas station. I should be so lucky. If they don't want to be oil salesmen, all they have to do is quit selling oil. Oh, I forgot, that's all they have. Without the west to buy their oil, they would all be eating sand!

Cry me a river!

Traitors all
"Large numbers of American troops and vast amounts of military equipment go to Iraq through Turkey, one of the few nations in the Islamic Middle East that has long been an American ally."

It is this very sort of thing that has led me to conclude that liberal Americans should all be tried to treason, because they are deliberately trying to destroy the United States. They are no longer entitled to the benefit of the doubt that they are simply misguided.

They are actively working for the other side and anyone with a conscience should start stating that fact loud and clear.

Congressional Subversion
Perhaps we should call it Congressional perversion. Any way, we are still at war with an enemy which would like to Kill Americans; any time, anyplace, anyhow. So, we not only live in a more dangerous world, we also now live in a more dangerous country- our home. Someday, we may turn on the news and see a mushroom cloud emerging above a major U.S. city, such as Los Angeles. (The Port of Long Beach is America's busiest port). What will Congress do then?? (I would not want to be a politican or former Congressman living in the U.S. in such a worst case senario).
Political Gambling against our future is irresponsible and should not be tolerated by the majority of voters.

Dumb war???
Every war in human history has its tragic and ill-conceived moments, "dumb" as Barack Obama and Anthony Thomas might say.

The consequences of our "dumbness" during WWII would have been our defeat by the Axis if we hadn't been persistent, changed tactics when necessary and accepted enormous casualties, in spite of monumental "dumbness" on the part of Allied leaders, including FDR, Churchill, Ike, Montgomery and MacArthur.

The losses in Normandy and Italy, the surprise offensive of the Bulge and the waste of lives in places like Tarawa and Peleliu were all results of "dumbness," plain and simple.

However, the Allied leaders and their people never went wobbly, the press was fully supportive, not seditious as they are today, politics stopped at the shore line and victory was the only goal and at any price. There was never any attempt on the homefront to undermine the troops and invest in defeat for blatant political advantage.

Going into Iraq was not a mistake. If we were going to fight this war in any serious way where would we fight it after Afghanistan? Iraq was the obvious and correct choice. We put allied forces right in the front yard of Islamic terrorism and instead of them fighting us here we are fighting them there---right next door, not coincidentally to Syria and Iran.
Have "dumb" mistakes been made? Of course. Re-read the first two paragraphs. What would really be a "dumb" war is one that you wage and then don't have the will or courage to win. That's what most Dems and Libs want.
BTW, Anthony Thomas is spot on about Hillary and the other pro then anti-war members of his party. It's refreshing to see some honesty from a TH poster who is a Democrat.

Genocide, what about ???
Darfur, Ruanda, the killing fields of Cambodia, Japan in the Pacific War, the Soviet gulags are these worthy of condemnation ?? Adolf Hitler wrote a book, "Mein Kampf", telling the world what he would do. Today with our 24 hour news cycle of electronic communications we again have someone else in Iran telling us what he plans to do. Are we listening ???

When history will be written many years from now I have a suggestion for a title for that book. I would call it "Why America Slept". Oops!! Is it plagiarism to change "England" to "America" in the title ? Where are the good democrats when you need them? Where is JFK ?

Read his inaugural address if you want an education. That is, if it is not too "aggressive" for you.

Tibby

Another option is that the dhimmicrats got a boost from Rice's foolish insistence that a "Palestinian State" be formed ASAP--and then decided on such a shenanigan.

Unfortunately, this could be a harbinger of worse--as Rice has moved clearly into the "Israel curser" side, this may hand the country to the dumbocrats in 2008.

Obama for 2008 part 2 continued
continued:

"But I also know that Saddam poses no imminent and direct threat to the United States, or to his neighbors, that the Iraqi economy is in shambles, that the Iraqi military a fraction of its former strength, and that in concert with the international community he can be contained until, in the way of all petty dictators, he falls away into the dustbin of history. I know that even a successful war against Iraq will require a US occupation of undetermined length, at undetermined cost, with undetermined consequences. I know that an invasion of Iraq without a clear rationale and without strong international support will only fan the flames of the Middle East, and encourage the worst, rather than best, impulses of the Arab world, and strengthen the recruitment arm of Al Qaeda. I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars."

Everyone else got it wrong , he got it right. He deserves to be president!

Obama for 2008
Obama's 2002 speech on Iraq war

After September 11th, after witnessing the carnage and destruction, the dust and the tears, I supported this administration's pledge to hunt down and root out those who would slaughter innocents in the name of intolerance, and I would willingly take up arms myself to prevent such tragedy from happening again. I don't oppose all wars. And I know that in this crowd today, there is no shortage of patriots, or of patriotism.

What I am opposed to is a dumb war. What I am opposed to is a rash war. What I am opposed to is the cynical attempt by Richard Perle and Paul Wolfowitz and other armchair, weekend warriors in this administration to shove their own ideological agendas down our throats, irrespective of the costs in lives lost and in hardships borne.

What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks like Karl Rove to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income -- to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics. Now let me be clear -- I suffer no illusions about Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal man. A ruthless man. A man who butchers his own people to secure his own power. He has repeatedly defied UN resolutions, thwarted UN inspection teams, developed chemical and biological weapons, and coveted nuclear capacity. He's a bad guy. The world, and the Iraqi people, would be better off without him.

Typical Sowell/ Larger ISSUES though
However, As liberal I do believe that the republican neocons have had a huge hand in promoting this so called "War on Terrorism", and our republican president has disgraced himself and this nation by invading a sovereign nation based on fraudulent, distortions and lies. I think when we look back on history, we will see that George W Bush was a liar, and that he will be considered one of the WORST presidents in United States history. But what's even worse, is that our complicit members of congress will be remembered as the spineless men and women who backed down from this war monger in order to maintain their senate seats so they may continue to govern over the very citizens they betrayed for their own self interest. For voting these people in office, we as Americans should be ashamed. I know I am

Typical Sowell/ Larger ISSUES though
It is very enticing for me as a liberal to blame the foreign policy failures of this country on conservatives. But Liberals bear much of the blame for the disastrous situation in Iraq as well. Although I don't agree with Sowell's partisan attack on just liberals for their opportunistic politics, I do generally agree that most of our senators and congressman are useless and self serving. Many of the Democrats want to blame president bush for waging war in Iraq, but these same Democrats gave him the authority to take this action. Most did this not out of concern for our country, but so they would not appear to be unpatriotic to the American public.

Leading the charge of hypocritical Democrats is our so called "front runner" Hillary Clinton. She gave president Bush the power to wage this war based on the same fraudulent information that she herself saw, now she criticizes him. She needs to be held as accountable as Bush for our failed foreign policy. Clinton is not alone, complicit members of the senate John Edwards, Joe Biden, Chris Dodd, and John Kerry followed suit in authorizing this moronic war. Senator Obama was the only one that spoke out and predicted the situation as it currently is; For this reason he has my vote for president.

Treason...
...is the only crime specifically defined in the Constitution of the United States. Article III, Section 3 states: "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to lthe same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court."

If the authors of this resolution and those who support it, i.e., The New York Times, et al, are not guilty of treason, then no one is.

The same people who are constantly carping about how they support the troops are attempting to undermine them at every sordid opportunity. At a more sensibe time in US history they would be tried and hanged. Wishful thinking.

Marion, it will be worse if the Dems
win! Then they will think that they have a mandate to implement all their communist agenda and really screw the country. We must elect a Republican and hopefully nominate a conservative one. We also need to take back the Senate and the house if possible. Voting demoncrapic (not a spelling error) is a vote for traitors!

Christforall
If they're not out at an anti-Bush\war\republican rally somewhere, then they are probably on another thread bashing Anne Coulter.
Liberals only pick fights with those who can't fight back.

What will happen to the country
If the Republicans win? I'm concerned the Dems will go off the trolley with anger and bitterness and attempt to destroy our country. I am stunned at the venom and the total disregard for the well being of the country.

WHERE ARE THE DEMS NOW?
IN A QUICK REVIEW OF THE COMMENTS I DO NOT SEE ANY DEMS RESPONDING. THAT SAYS IT ALL!

Treason....
-a crime that undermines the offender's government
-disloyalty by virtue of subversive behavior
-treachery: an act of deliberate betrayal

That's what is happening here.
Every single elected official who voted for this in the house and will vote for it in the senate is a traitor, plain and simple.
It is time to use the DOJ for it's intended purpose and turn the tables on the communists who masquerade as primarily democrats.
It is time to take them to task, investigate them, their motives, and their intent and begin the treason hearing immediately.
There is simply no other reason for this than to close a critical supply point and cripple the military by cutting off their supply of weaponry, armor, ammunition, vehicles, food, water, clothing, fuel and other vital equipment necessary to prevent their slaughter in the region.
Remember, this is the party of the left that accused the Bush Administration of not supplying our troops properly. Now they seek to destroy the military position that will include loss of life. They are attempting murder on our troops and creating an enemy out of an ally over something that:
1) We have no business discussing
2) We have no business discussing
3) Will only result in making an ally an enemy
Shame on every single elected official who supports this nonsensical resolution about a tragic historical event 90+ years old perpetrated by a govenment that no longer exists.

Traitors and Wimps
Face it: The Senate and House have become cesspools that need to be flushed out. Until the politicians there become more loyal to our country then to being reelected we are all in big trouble. And yes I question their patriotism!

Jamble
Good luck and keep up the fight...I'm praying for all Conservatives in California.

orlandocajun
Royce represents one of the last bastions of conservatism in CA --Orange County.

Until this fiasco, he has been about 99% in favor of Conservative principles. If I can't get him to change his tune on this one I may not have anyone to vote for and I'll be unrepresented in the house as well as in the Senate where we have those 2 gems, Boxer and Feinstein.

The Ottoman Empire?
How is something done by the Ottoman Empire relevant today?

Jamble
He's from California! That's the same California of Pelosi and Feinstein. The same California that just outlawed mom and dad from school books and allow gay freak shows to take place on public streets.

Your guy has probably calculated his re-election probablilties based on his support of the resolution. Everything they do is based on that. California is being consumed by the secular progressive virus and there's no cure. Your guy Royce is infected. Get out while you can.

What I can't understand
is why my congressman, Ed Royce (R-CA) has cosponsored this idiotic resolution.

Up til now, he has been a model of Conservatism. I can't imagine what he is thinking. I have written an email to him teling him what a stupid move that was. I'm going to follow it up with a phone call when his office opens this morning. If any of you live in his district, I'd urge you to do the same.

Globug
I am in agreement with you about Africa. The stories I have read about the Congo make me ill.
And I also have to wonder, how can we NOT help these people?

I was talking with a family member who is a lefty--there argumentation boiled down to, we don't acknowledge the suffering in Africa because if we acknowledge it we will have to "do something" about it. So much for the ideology that really cares.

They can play this game with Turkey, but the atrocoties have ended, so no real world solution has to be formulated. No heavy lifting required--and they get the added bonus of hacking off one of our allies in the current war and somewhere down the road, rest assured they will point a finger at Bush for what they have caused. They are truelly ungly people.

Where are my lib pals...
Phylo, Lilly, Anthony Thomas, Hal Donahue, et al?

Surely they all have cogent, thoughtful explanations as to why this non-binding resolution is so imperative that it simply must be passed without further delay.

Help me, Phylo! Help me Hal!I'm so confused! On the surface, this appears to be another lame liberal attempt at sabotage of the war effort, but I'm sure you can enlighten me as to how I am mistaken.

I know deep in my heart it must have something to do with the "neo-cons" or Haliburton, but yet it remains unclear.

I anxiously await your pearls of wisdom.

Deductive Reasoning Pt 2
To the Dems, Bush is the enemy. The enemy of my enemy is my friend - why the Dems root for the terrorists. The friend of my enemy is my enemy - why the Dems are trying to subvert our ability to fight the war on terror specifically and our ability to conduct foreign policy in general. They also suffer from the Illuminati Syndrome which is distinguished by the delusion that when they regain power, they can blame their predecessors for all of the insults they hurl at foreign countries and that the leaders of those countries will swallow that line of BS. Just think - will this resolution save any lives? I don't think so. Will it punish even one person responsible for the killings? Not likely. Is the resolution an attempt to claim moral high ground? YGBSM, from people who make a sewer look like moral high ground? If these Bozos were truly committed to eliminating genocide, they would be calling for action in places like Darfur, but compared to real action which requires real deeds, not just words, they lack the moral courage to do anything that requires sacrifice in the military sense.

Is Soros Armenian?
That the only other reason, besides what Mr Sowell has expressed, that the Democrats would so blatantly act against USA interests once again.

Follow Abe Lincoln's lead
After one of our acknowledged greatest presidents, suspended Habeus Corpus, he imprisoned liberal Democrats known as "Copperheads". This was done because they emboldended the enemy and got in the way of winning the war. Sound familiar?

This action is long overdue.

Bushs' War?
Is that anything like :
Johnson's war?
Truman's war?
Roosevelt's war?
Wilson's war?
McKinley's war
Lincoln's war?

Or were all these wars OUR war?

Labeling History.
With its current display of logic, one wonders why congress has limited itself to 90 years in labeling history. Why not go back to the cavemen and label them as unhygienic? Unfortunately, unless congress is simply incompetent, they do have purpose in mind and that purpose is contrary to the best interests of the USA.

Why Did Germans Allow Genocide?
Hitler kept them focused on themselves and what the government can do for them...And when the Jews started disappearing they stupidly believed that they were just being moved to other countries.

Why do Americans allow Democrats to use their power to manipulate them? They stupidly think that the Democrats are doing it for our values.

Why bring a genocide incident against a country that didn't exist at the time?

Why not the genocide going on today in Africa?
Do they stupidly turn their backs on the African continent because there is no political profit in it?

Had it in Ohio
Traitors are all they are. When the Islamofacists detonate one of the nukes they surely have, I hope D.C. is the target. Starting over with politicians who put America first would be great. I don't know how anyone could support the trash we have in Washington today. Pathetic!! I say again, PATHETIC!!!!!

How low can you go?
This is typical Democrat pandering to the left to
upstage the war. So if Turkey decides you can't fly over my territory anymore who loses? The cost for the war will grow ever higher. Democrats
are petty morons.

OldRelayer
Why is it that POTUS is limited to two terms but fatuous halfwits like Kennedy, Kerry, Byrd, Pilosi, McCain and the rest of the idiots in Congress can stay there for lifetimes?

Thanks FDR for your monumental stupidity on that issue.

Thank you, Mr. Sowell
I've already written both my own congressman and Ms. Pelosi about this. While I suspect Sowell is right and the Democratic leadership sees this as an opportunity to undercut Bush, I imagine a lot of the rank-and-file Democrats (and some Republicans) are just viewing it as an opportunity to speak out against some thing horrible. Both are wrong.

What happened to the Armenians was tragic, but no resolution by our congress or any other body is going to make those people any less dead or give any meaning to what happened then than already exists. Foreign policy should be based on logic and on the best interests of the United States, not emotion.

Every great power, including the United States, has some skeletons in the closet. To engage in this sort of finger pointing is fruitless and weakens our position in the world.

Obscene
We're at war. Turkey is our ally. Only a drooling moron would punch an ally in the face when said ally is providing the base through which half of our supplies flow.

Ask yourself why Pilosi is picking this particular time to press this absurd resolution through the house instead of before or after the war. Why THIS atrocity which happened a hundred years ago? Why not the present atrocity still going on in Darfur, or the Rwandan massacre, or the hundreds of millions of people massacred in Russia by Stalin, the million plus by Saddam Hussein or the millions killed in Cambodia by Pol Pot?

It's simple. Pilosi and the rest of the obscene party called the Democrat Party want to do everything possible to undermine the war effort in their fanatical quest for political power.

The tragedy is that there are millions of Americans who are apparently too dense or too ignorant to understand the significance of the insult, not just to Turkey, but to the American soldiers who'll suffer even more at the hands of that hideous fool heading the House Of Representatives.

We need to clean house
Every time the Congress does something or one of their spokes people that is suppose to be responsible speaks, I am more and more convinced we need Congress to serve no more than 2 terms. These people are so detached from the real world and the people of this country, why because they are an automatic. Which apparently gives them the liberty to do what ever they want and the unread masses will reelect them, we have to save our country from our lazy selves.

BTW, great article, although the conclusions I have been hearing and reading for a couple of days. Word gets around quick. Please, contact your Congressman and let them know you mean business and intended get them out of office if they don’t start supporting our troops which they have sent into this situation. I guess it is the partial birth abortion people, they want to abort this mission when it is so close to being born.

Ignorant public
Another thing the Dems are counting on and have for years is a public too ignorant and uncaring to grasp the ramifications no matter how much it is discussed.

Anne
LOL; he should change his posting name to "scrollby" because that is what the people who have been here for a while do.

Where's the petition, I'll sign
livefreeordie writes: Monday, October, 15, 2007 9:33 PM
Let's sign a petition
that we want the Dems that support this tried for treason. It's not enough to vote them out...

Let's start one up for real I know we can get a lot of signers here alone.

WIN the war
p!ss off the dhimmocrats.

No question
about it. The Democrats are traitors. They do not care how many people die as a result of removing Turkey as a valued ally in the middle East. Turkey is a fairly moderate Muslim nation. Turkey contributes to stability in the region.

The Democrats do not want stability anywhere as long as George Bush is president. There are no words to describe how filthy the Democratic Party has become. This level of hypocrisy has been unheard of before these niwits assumed leadership roles in the Democratic Party.

Just look at them. Harry Read, Nancy Pelosi, Tom Lantos, not one of them is fit to be involved in the struggle to survive Muslim jihadists. Muslim monsters who are bred to want to kill every one of us.

Frankly, they should be arrested, tried and sentenced for treason. We all know what the penalty is. Unfortunately that will not happen.

1968
Finally, if you really want to read about the disconnect between the Democratic politicians and their constituents you should "1968".

http://www.amazon.com/1968-Year-That-Rocked-World/dp/034545 5827/ref=pd_bbs_2/105-8060430-8543621?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1 192503168&sr=1-2

You'll get to read such lovely tales about how Democratic Mayor Richard Daly called out the Chicago police and had them physically beat the liberal students who were rioting for peace.

You'll also get to read about how JFK increased America's involvement in Vietnam and how LBJ would rather resign than end the war. The "Howard Dean" of his day, Herbert Humphrey, insured that Nixon, the unelectable, got elected. LBJ comes from a long Texas tradition (read Haliburton) of war profiteering.

You people just don't realize there is a huge difference between the liberal voters and the politicians who pander to them.

Here's a good eye opener for you:

What sowel doesn't tell us
CA Rep. Pelosi has rich Armenian-american contributors. She is trying to please these folks. That is why the congress is involved with in this ridiculous process.

I'd like to add
to The Big K's comments, it's not just genocide
against the blacks although they do make up a large percentage of murdered babies, but it's a genocide against babies period. It's payback (or kickback) to Planned Parenthood, NARAL and the assorted other ghouls who prey and make money on the bodies of dead infants and the souls of their misguided mothers. It is the DemonRats who consistently fight to keep partial birth abortion going; the demonRats who under the guise of medical progress demand that human embryos be destroyed when adult stem cells seem to be a much better alternative..again payback.
They did NOTHING when the poor souls in Ruwanda
were being brutally murdered, and only pay lipservice to Darfur. And Yeah, what about
China, what about Myamar? They pick a sad story
from 100 yrs. ago? They are beneath contempt.
I've said it before and will again, the blood of our troops are on their heads, yes they are
traitors, but they only make laws for us to obey.
They should apologize not only to Benedict Arnold but to the Rosenbergs too.

driveby posts a lot, yet has nothing

of worth to say... and of course, he isn't correct about ANYTHING!

Yet, he continues to post again and again and again.

Does he realize that mostly people don't even bother to read his posts. Probably not!

A little history.
Who ended the Korean War? Republican or Democrat?

Who ended the Vietnam War? Republican or Democrat?

Democrats will not end the war. That's like saying Democrats will cut spending. It would be cutting spending. Not going to happen. It was a Republican, Eisenhower, who warned against the Military Industrial Complex. The perpetual money sink.

Tell yourself that and then look at what transpires in the next year and it will all make sense.

Dems Condone Genocide Against Blacks
The same Democrats that are codemning Turkey, refuse to condemn the extermination of 40-50 million babies in abortion clinics since Roe v Wade-more than half being black babies.

In fact these Democrats support and condone it. The horrifically high number of black abortions is the result of Planned Parenthood's Project Negro, started in 1939 by PP's racist, Nazi founder, Margaret Sanger.

Because of these same Democrats, America has sunk lower than Turkey and even Nazi Germany.

Sucker punched
Unlike Ann Coulter, who just likes the sound of her own voice, I'm going to *actually* predict liberal behavior.

Liberals are going to increase troops fighting the war and they are going to increase the spending.

The next Democratic President, irrespective of who it is, is going to put an Iraq War budget at least 1/2 again the biggest budget Bush ever submitted.

Turning the tables on the Republicans and sucker punching them. What? You are not going to vote for the war? Republicans in Congress will be left with worse or worster choices. Vote against the war budget or vote for it. It's lose lose no matter.

The Republicans are playing right into the Democrats hands. Terrorism is a perpetual war budget, a perpetual excuse to raise taxes.

Unfortunately it is also the oldest reason in the book to raise taxes. The peasants are revolting? Declare war and raises taxes. The Republicans handed that to Democrats on a silver platter.

Sowell Misses it Completely
What I don't understand is:

1.) Sowell is an economist
2.) Sowell is a Washington insider.

So how can Sowell get "it" so completely wrong?

Again Sowell demonstrates he's long past any notion of having "it".

Here are the facts.

1.) Democrats have never seen a government dollar they didn't love.

2.) The Iraq War is $100 Billion of "free" money.

3.) The Democrats are salivating over that money.

4.) Every major Democratic political candidate, including Barak Obama, have already come out and stated they do NOT believe troops can be pulled out before 2013. Trust me, the Democrats will expand the war on terror before they shrink it. If the Democrats refuse to "bring the troops home", who are the liberals going to vote for?

The only losers in 2009 will be the Republican contractors like Haliburton and Black Water.

Make not mistake about it. They will be *replaced*.

That money ain't going anywhere.

And Sowell should know this.

The Democrats are insuring the war continues by annoying Turkey and agitating for further instability in the region.

Hopefully the leaders in Turkey are smarter than Sowell.

I Read This Somewhere
Deductive Reasoning
Thursday, June 14, 2007 9:42 PM

.Who does the downstream part of America consider responsible for the war on terror (as well as everything else wrong with the world)? Right, the Bush Boys. Who, then, in the Lib's opinion, are the two sides in the war? Right, the Bush Boys vs. the terrorists. Since this is not a real war, according to some Demwits, which side are the Libs going to support? Naturally, the side that does not have anyone named Bush, the terrorists. But, since this is a REAL war, what does that make anyone who gives any type of support to the terrorists? You're right again. The sad part is the Libs are so out of touch with the real world, they do not realize they are helping the terrorists destroy freedom when they do everything they can to keep the Bush Boys from succeeding at anything.
However, it is scary to realize the power behind the entity that has all of the federal government defying the vast majority of Americans in order to keep illegal invaders coming into America to the point our country is turning into Mexico, with a small group of extremely rich, a few middle class, and a huge majority of uneducated, unambitious, poor ,but cheap workers (if they work at all). Now, I HAVE to go throw up

Cherry picking
And why don't the libs target and decry China's more recent atrocities in the last century? Because everything is made there and it's not tied directly to Bush. In fact, why don't we just sell some military secrets to them? Oops, too late, been there, done that.

Get Real
Next your going to say that we lost one of our guys because it took 11 hours to get a fisa warrent.Oh never mind.

They Are Only Fooling Themselves
And other idiots. Just one more treasonous act by the left, which will kill Americans and Iraqi's. They have been doing this since they realized they have no other way to gain power, but for us to lose the war on terror. They still do not realize how much is at stake. I gotta go throw up.

Dr. Sowell, on target as always!

No matter how many truly stupid and inane things our Congress does, they never cease to absolutely amaze me.

And now they're wasting time trying to pass a non-binding resolution condemning the massacre of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire nearly a century ago!

Last I heard, (today) we have some very real and very serious issues on our hands... Helloooooo!

Are our Congressmen/women dumber than dirt, or what? (Oh yeah, it's a democratic Congress. I must have forgotten.)

Every generation
has its Benedict Arnold.

Nancy Pelosi is ours.

And she's just one of many, hoisted up as she as by the anti-war, moveon.idiotorgers, et al.

We're in deep dooo.

The General tells us the problem!
Abizaid: ‘We’ve Treated The Arab World As A Collection Of Big Gas Stations’

FROM GENERAL ABIIZAD

SD-“Of course it’s about oil, we can’t really deny that,” Abizaid said of the Iraq campaign early on in the talk.

“We’ve treated the Arab world as a collection of big gas stations,” the retired general said. “Our message to them is: Guys, keep your pumps open, prices low, be nice to the Israelis and you can do whatever you want out back. Osama and 9/11 is the distilled essence that represents everything going on out back.”

Lot of sense
No doubt about it -- Sowell makes a lot of sense. Timetables for withdrawal, the Petraeus affair, the smear of Rush and now this -- what won't a liberal stoop to? Nothing. The Dems in Congress are contemptible, and in my opionion treasonous. Le'Chaim.

Clinton 08? Hill No!

Right on Dr. Sowell
I have been saying since this story broke that the Communist(D)s were either treasonally attempting to hinder the war effort or they were so stupid that they had lost touch with reality. There is no room here for anything in the middle. The Turks have warned them strongly in the past on this issue and they ignored them.

And what possible good is accomplished by the vote? The only real thing it does is p*ss of a U.S. ally. An ally that has been on our side sine the end of WWII.

Taxman
Next the Dems they will be condemning the Crusades! We all know that’s the start of all our problems. Anything to hurt our country and help there election prospects is acceptable.

It Is Always Faith-Based
Dear Mr. Sowell and commenters:

No one does anything that requires effort without some kind of strong motivation.

We go to work because we need the money.

We seek a mate because of a strong emotional and physical - perhaps even spiritual - imperative built into our genes.

We argue our public policy viewpoint, whether domestic or foreign, based on our firmly held beliefs.

In other nations, the impulse is often monolithic: A strong Islamic, or Hindu, or Catholic influence, for instance.

America's responses often appear to reflect a nation-wide bi-polar disorder.

This is because of titanic conflict between two powerful belief systems: The old Judeo-Christian system and the new, Humanist (Bill O'Reilly incorrectly labels it 'secular progressive') belief system.

The Judeo-Christian belief system relies on the assumptions of our Founders that all men are created equal and endowed by their Creator with unalienable rights.

The Humanist (http://www.jcn.com/manifestos.html) system begins with its own 'first commandment' of man's emergence as the result of a continuous process, and places mankind's significance and liberties squarely in the hands of ........ other men, based on their intellectual superiority and their enlightened, well-meaning impulses.

A quick perusal of the Manifestos will reveal every mantra of the political Left, and it will also expose the fact that the Left's effort to 'establish' it's viewpoint is based specifically on a new religion.

If the Judeo Christian viewpoint wins out in both domestic and foreign policies, mankind will remain free.

If the Humanist viewpoint wins out, mankind will be enslaved, under the relentless social engineering of an inescapable transnational federal government.

People like Hillary Clinton view such an arrangement as Utopia.

People who still have the blood of the Patriots in their veins view it as hell.

We support the troops but not the war
This is how the left supports the troops.

By trying to p*ss off the Turks so we can't re-supply our troops.

The Source Of
Dear Mr. Sowell and commenters:

The Word Treason . . .
has become meaningless. My dictionary tells me it means:

a violation of the allegiance owed by somebody to his or her own country, e.g. by aiding an enemy.

Does this sound familiar? Who are all these gutless wonders who voted to go to war and now stab us in the back at every turn? And don't give me this crap about Bush lied. Congress had access to the same intelligence as the President. Besides, that's all water under the bridge anyway. We have troops in Iraq now and to do ANYTHING that undermines or hinders the prosecution of that mission, in my opinion, fits the definition above.

And I strongly advocate the traditional punishment for treasonous acts and behavior.

Right on target!
Dr. Sowell is as usual right and puts this issue in its real world context. He points out the adverse consequences for the United States if this irresponsible behavior in Congress is not shut down.

Ah HAH!
I remember when I saw this story, and thought, "HUH?" To quote the generic comedian, "What's up with that?"

And the reaction in Turkey -- a little overblown, methinks. But not surprising. I guess the Turks aren't into the self-hating guilt trip that Americans have.

Yah, Ok, horrible things happened a hundred years ago. Even worse things have happened elsewhere and elsewhen. Is Congress going to have a "non-binding resolution" for all of them?

So, Dr. Sowell points out the ulterior motive. Now suddenly it makes perfect sense.

AND WHAT'S WITH ALL THESE NON-BINDING RESOLUTIONS?

I thought we had a Congress for the purposes of making LAWS that are BINDING. I mean, heck, *I* can have a "non-binding resolution" as easily as the next guy, and with just as much lack of teeth, and just as much lack of meaning.

But at least when I do it, being the complete nobody that I am, I don't get any of our allies mad at us.

Tell me how is this not treason?
The Democrats must be in real trouble for them to stoop to something this low. It wasn't enough to divert attention from themselves by sliming Rush. Next, it wasn't enough to pound their chests anew over allegations of torture.

No. The Democrat House leadership is undermining the war effort by _actively_ destabilizing the region.

Please explain to me how this is not treason. Or is _anything_ justifiable as long as you don't agree with the war?

Sowell Nails It AGAIN!
Does any seditious act embarrass today's liberal? Apparently, not a chance!

What a waste of oxygen - besides being CO2 emitters with no redeeming values ... that's today's liberal!
