Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Barack and Michelle Obama are poised to commit a classic act of limousine-liberal hypocrisy -- in this case, turning their backs on tens of thousands of inner-city kids in Washington, D.C.

Public schools, it seems, are good enough for poor and middle-class families, but not for rich families like the Obamas.

In July, when he addressed the NAACP's annual convention, Sen. Barack Obama expressed his devotion to American public schools, vowing he would not "walk away from them" by supporting school-choice programs like Sen. John McCain did.

"What he's offering amounts to little more than the same tired rhetoric about vouchers," said Obama. "Well, I believe we need to move beyond the same debate we've been having for the past 30 years when we haven't gotten anything done. We need to fix and improve our public schools, not throw our hands up and walk away from them."

In October, in the last presidential debate, Obama specifically attacked McCain's support for the school-choice program in Washington, D.C., which gives 1,900 lower-income students a voucher worth up to $7,500 to attend the private school of their choice -- and which McCain wanted to expand to include more students.

"The centerpiece of Sen. McCain's education policy is to increase the voucher program in D.C. by 2,000 slots," Obama said derisively. "That leaves all of you who live in the other 50 states without an education reform policy from Sen. McCain. So if we are going to be serious about this issue, we've got to have a president who is going to tackle it head-on, and that's what I intend to do as president."

In case anyone doubted that he still opposed school-voucher programs, Obama made his position clear in Time magazine just before the election. The magazine asked: "Should parents be given vouchers to enable them to send their children to any school?" Obama answered: "No: I believe that public education in America should foster innovation and provide students with varied, high-quality learning opportunities."

The practical effect of Obama's policy in Washington, D.C., is that tens of thousands of students will remain trapped in what are simultaneously the most expensive and worst public schools in America.

According to "Revenues and Expenditures for Public Elementary and Secondary Schools: School Year 2005-2006," a report published by the Department of Education in July, total expenditures per pupil in the District of Columbia's public schools was $15,798, more than the per pupil spending of any state.

Yet, in the National Assessment of Education Progress mathematics and reading tests administered to fourth- and eighth-graders in 2007, D.C. students did worse than students in any state.

Only 12 percent of D.C. eighth-graders were rated grade-level "proficient" or better in reading, only 8 percent in math.

There were 59,616 students enrolled in the D.C. public schools in 2006, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. If McCain's plan to increase by 2,000 the number of vouchers available in the District were enacted, taxpayers would still be spending $15,798 per student per year to send more than 55,000 kids through a school system where about nine out of 10 students do not learn to read or do math at grade-level proficiency by the time they "graduate" from elementary school.

What is Obama's plan to deal with this? Spend $18 billion more in federal tax dollars on public education (as he promised in his campaign) -- and send his own kids to extremely expensive private schools. Currently, Obama's two daughters (ages 7 and 10) attend the University of Chicago Lab School, where tuition is $18,492 for grades 1-4 and $20,286 for grades 5-8.

When Michelle Obama visited Washington this week, she toured only two prospective schools for her daughters: Sidwell Friends, where lower-school tuition is $28,442; and Georgetown Day, where tuition is $27,445 for grades 1-5.

If Barack Obama backed legislation giving all students in D.C. a voucher worth the $15,798 D.C. public schools spend per pupil, poor and middle-class families -- especially those with more than two children -- would still not be able to afford Sidwell Friends and Georgetown Day. But they would be able to afford most of the other private schools in the Washington area, including almost all of the Catholic schools.

But that would contradict Obama's vision of America, a place where poor children remain trapped in public schools, rich children go to very expensive schools, and middle-class parents who work hard and struggle to send their children to religious schools that share their values and commitment to excellence must expect to pay not only for their own children's education but also escalating local and federal taxes to ill-educate their neighbor's children.

Put your children where your ideology is, Mr. President-elect. Send them to public school.

This is just another early example
of Obama and his leftist illuminati rhetoric saying one thing and doing another. Of course the public schools aren't good enough for his daughters! Too bad he just didn't tell the truth about it in the beginning.

Simple Problem, Simple Answer
Raise taxes so that D.C. public schools can spend $28,000 per student. Then, and only then, will student test scores rise above the bottom quartile.

Of course, if you want D.C. schools to excel, the per pupil cost should be raised to $100,000 per pupil.

As Obama himself demonstrated so clearly, money is the answer to all elect... er, problems.

Homeschool Option
Our family chose to homeschool our children. I estimate that we spend perhaps $2,000 per pupil per year, which inludes the cost of all field trips to regional museums and family vacations which often include some form of fun learning. For instance, the bug museum in Victoria, B.C., which doubles as "international" travel.

The last assessment test we gave to our 9 year produced shocking results. He scored in the top 1% or 2% in several categories and even scored "post-high-school equivalent" in reading comprhension.

The obvious conclusion is less money spent means better student performance!

We're seriously considering a 25% budget cut in fiscal year 2009. My sincers thanks to Barney Frank for the inspiring idea.

Homeschooling is good
But homeschooled parents are still forced to pay for the government schools they don't use. Vouchers would help homeschoolers too.

Homeschooling works

Liberals are outraged.

Please...
There is no way they going to send their kids to government run schools!

That would make them like the lower/middle class folk he purposes to help. He cannot have his girls coming home listing the compliants from fellow classmates about the affects of his policies on their families.

Besides, Pres. Obama has stated before that public schools weren't the'best' option for his girls in Chi-town, so why should living in D.C be any different.

The only
way to get school choice is to BAND together & MARCH to washington.

When you get there, you point your finger and you say...Obama..Congress we are going to have school choice NOW!

Be sure and touch their nose!

HA,HA,HA, Very Funny Terence..
You are such a kidder Mr. Jeffrey, this I must admit is a wonderfully funny column, but all joking aside the Michelle Obama is not a product of public schools and her children won't be.
Public school is for our children, the ones who score below average in standardised test, our Black High school children who can remember verbatim every verse from Rap and Hip-Hop artist with perfect flow, but can't master seventh grade English.
Yes lord, our children who beat up Teachers and sell drugs in school and the go to churh on sunday right there in DC or Chocolate City.
I know, I went negative, but there is hope.

We have to continue to convince our children that it's okay to excell in the classroom even when you're ostracized and called white for doing so, to pay attention in class and to be more adept at math and sciences, we need more Scientist and Mathematicians than Rappers, and not to be "deluded" by the fact that "some" Rappers make more money than Teachers, Scientist and Mathematicians.
It would send a such positive message if the first kids were to go to Public School, then again it's DC those Secret Service Agents might get their butts kicked.

You racist people
you're always against minorities like me.

I want it to be a hate crime to discriminate against people like me & very severe punishment too. Like, maybe 250yrs in prison.

Signed: white male

Obama's Children in a public school
What would be the cost to the taxpayers of assigining Secret Service agents to guard the President's children (as the law would require)while attending a public school? And wouldn't the high-profile presence of the children and their guards unsettle the the entire school?

C. Navarro

For Carlos
The Secret Service has to go with the first children no matter what school they go to so what difference does that make?

Are you saying it's OK to disrupt classes for the upper-crust, rich kids and it's not Ok to disrupt classes for the poor kids in public school? The kids in private schools won't mind minor disruptions in their daily schedule which includes learning how to read and do math, while the kids in public schools that don't learn much of anything anyway might resent the minor intrusions into their daily schedule?

Come on man, get a clue. Obama, like any other parent that has the means to do so, will not send his children to a public school. He wants them to get a real education, not just get shuffled through the system, learning nothing.

Is this called change?
Obama had a chance to grow a pair and stand up the to teachers union, but instead he wants to continue the failed policies (sound familar?) that continue to produce high drop out rates and low tests scores, all at a staggering cost to the tax payer. Yea, great idea messiah, lets give the teachers union more powere and money so they can continue to sell our kids down the river

Options
We live in a fairly decent school district. We paid our taxes but were underwhelmed with the results we saw. With 5 kids, private school was unaffordable. So, I put my professional career on hold and we chose to home school So far, we have one who served 6 yrs in the army, two professional college degrees, and two currently attending college. All exceeded the national achievement test standards. There are options for those who can afford them. Vouchers should be available for those who cannot...the money is being wasted in many regular public schools!

You got to be kidding
Obama and wife are way too smart to send their kids to that cesspool call Washington DC ISD.

MY God, what person in the worlkd with the means to send their kids to a private school woulkd send their kids into that mess.

I would think the Obamas love their kids too much even thoug their past activities in Chicago help make a similar cesspool there.

Bring the Terroriat Ayers in to run the DC schools. Then Obama would send his kids.

I would not want Obama's kid or anyones in that mess. Why, they might get pregnant when they get older and they would get abortions. I wonder if that happened if Obama would know before the procedure. I am sure he would be fine with that as he would not want to punish his girls with a baby.

OBAMA LIES TO GET ELECTED
My question is why would it suprise anyone that he will be sending his children to private school. Has no one gotten it yet. He LIED. Everything you heard in the campaign file it away and wait for the other shoe to drop. Obama is not for vouchers, he is not for tax cuts, he is not pro life, he is not for affortable housing (go look at his former district), he is for nothing but Obama. He now has gotten elected and he has what he wants. So we can do whatever we want if you know what I mean till the next election and he comes out and tells us again how he is the one who will stand up for the common person, you know 'THE LITTLE FOLK"

So for all of you Obamabots you have been had. That is all I can say. He opened his mouth you became in tranced so now follow the leader until the next time. He will take you out wind you up and say "VOTE FOR ME SEE HOW MUCH BETTER YOUR LIFE IS NOW NO MORE EVIL BUSH YEARS" FOLLOW ME

So it is up to us TAXPAYERS if we want changes in our schools not our government. That is what is wrong with our nation now GOVERNMENT

Hypocrisy
What's good enough for other kids is not good enough for Obamas. Is that what I'm hearing? I wonder if this is this because he is one of the greedy rich or if it is something else. Can everyone spell 'hypocrisy?'

Obama's education conundrum
It will be difficult for the incoming president to appear above hypocrisy if he maintains the same education policy with regard to vouchers. The D.C. schools are dreadful, and No Child Left Behind was a farce. Still, we can't expect him to sacrifice his own children on the altar of the the academic illuminati. Please.

REAL REASON FOR PUBLIC SHOOLS...
INDOCTRINATION. Many muslim schools do the same thing. Teaching things like "Mickey Mouse is satan" or "USA is evil". Our public schools teach there is no God, homosexuality is a good and healthy thing and, well "the USA is evil".
If the the libs lose this source of indoctrnation, kids might grow up to be thinking for themselves conservatives. My God, what could be worse!

Public Schools Are For Ignorant Masses
Of course, Obama, like all Democratic leaders will put his kids in elite schools. After all, he is intelligent and knows what is best for his kids, unlike you of the ignorant masses.

Public Schools are for you ignorant masses. As an ignorant, you can not know what is best for your kids. Leave that to the intellectually elite to decide. Vouchers will just corrupt your little mind into thinking that you have any right to the education of your own kids.

Silly, ignorant masses, you are simply not smart enough to decide on your own. The Stepford Democrat, Obama, will decide for you.

Private schools aren't liberal enough
The reason liberals refuse to support vouchers is simple--public schools teach liberalism. Most private schools are much more conservative--some might even teach the Bible as the truth. Liberals can't have children being taught to actually think for themselves in private schools so they must force them into public schools controlled by liberal education philosophies.

Please
The fact that this is even being debated is ridiculous. The Oman and his wife are a prime example of the limousine liberal set.Look at
Al Sharp-tongue,a guy without any apparent means of income educated his daughters in privet school.

The do as I say,not as I do,will fool some of the people all of the time!

Public School Model
Teach to the median; insuring that half will be bored and half not reached.

Mainstream special needs students; insuring distractions and less time for instruction.

Pay an outstanding Math teacher the same as a burned out phys ed teacher; that's a motivator.

Keep misbehaving students in the classroom; they're stealing from those who want to learn.

I could go on but who cares?

Personal Voucher system
So his kids can have a better education he opts out for a personally funded [yeah right] voucher system.

Remember the Chicago Annenberg Challenge for educational reform - that worked.

To Francis
I, for one, care, and I agree with you. Schools administered by government are designed to fail - for all the reasons you listed, plus all the competing pressures of disparate interest groups.

Parents should be required to send their kids to school or demonstrate effective home schooling of the basic three R's. But the schools themselves should compete for enrollments like any other enterprise.

Public schools are like public housing. They are inevitably regarded by their clients more like prisons than accomodations. If people could choose their schools instead of being assigned them, they would feel they had a stake in the educational outcome. Instead, many parents and children consider school to be a dreary requirment more to be evaded than utilized.

What about the security issue?
What kind of public school experience could the children of the President have while they're surrounded everywhere they go by secret service?

In a private school the security demands are less because the environment is more secure to begin with.

Unlike the president's kids, your average public school child doesn't attract paparazzi or random nut cases trying to make a name for themselves

"For the children"
If we would only increase property taxes so that at least $100,000.00 is spent on each child (i.e. more money and goodies for teachers)per year we would have much better schools. Just ask the teachers here in NJ, that, in my town, max. out at $107,000 per year + another $30-$40K in benefits and pensions for a part time job. I pay only $9200.00 per year in property taxes on a modest 3 bedroom split. I want my taxes raised "for the children" and so that the over pampered, overpaid, over perked, over pensioned, greedy, ungrateful, Commie thug teachers can get up to Obama's $250,000 per year threshold

The problem is more widespread...
Many of the problems with our failing schools are our failing families and failing senses of traditional values. When we reward unemployment, when we reward lack of education with welfare, we are simply showing low-income families that they don't need school to succeed. When parents of students don't value education, how are the students themselves expected to value it? The voucher program at least allows the select parents to do care to be involved in the educational process of their children. Pouring more money into schools is not a solution when the root of the problems begin outside of schools.

MSM
I'm sure that he will be asked about this the next time he' on Meet the Press/ Good Morning America,et.al, right? I really expect that they will "hold his feet to the fire" on this. Yeah- right!

Gene
Sorry, not buying it. How can he dictate to other people how their children will be educated (read his zero to five plan), then have the option of choosing a different route for his own children? Do you realize how insane that is? He is proposing "universal" (read mandatory) preschool for three year olds and even proposed "infant" universal education, but his own kids don't have to be a part of that system. No way.
We are homeschooling, but the fact that he doesn't even mention homeschooling - EVER tells me we may get a challenge from his "civillian security force" if we refuse to opt in to his program. But his kids don't have to? Really?
And that is okay with you?
In fact, his website doesn't even mention private schools. Seems to me he would have some ideas since his kids are in private school. Nope. But he has lots of ideas for "infant education".

gene
Parents should be required to send their kids to school or "demonstrate" effective homeschooling?

The public schools have YET to demonstrate effective education. Whom should the parents be accountable to? Whom do they need to demonstrate this effectiveness to? The same people that haven't demonstrated it themselves? Do you really think they would get a fair shake when a mom with little to no education beyond high school has ten times the success of a public school teacher with a degree, or two, or three?
All the studies that have ever been done clearly show homeschool students test at or above grade level (when many public school students test below grade level). To me, it should be the other way around. Public schools should have no access to children until they can demonstrate to parents the can effectively educate a child.

Obama and his camp are liars.
and the sooner we get used to that, accept that, and move on, the sooner we'll be able to work on developing a Conservative Party that actually attracts minority voters...

stbmom
"Public schools should have no access to children until they can demonstrate to parents they can effectively educate a child".

I love it!!!!!!

SUGGESTION FOR BO ON SCHOOLING
Perhaps Barack's Chicago Marxist Democratic Socialist partners could set up some more "Peace" schools (whose holidays were not American but U.N.) in D.C. for his children to attend.

In the meantime, BO and his ideological pals in the Congress could pass the pending Global Poverty Act directing that a large portion of that .7% of GDP (of all members) going to the U.N. could be dispersed to D.C. schools for the "benefit" of all school children with the stipulation that students learn how to "Free Mumia" and hate America, but ignore (Chicago-style) math and the sciences.

Hypocrisy knows no bounds.
The chances of the Obama kids having to associate with the children of “commoners” attending public DC schools are Slim & NONE. The word is that the Obama kids will attend either Cathedral, Sidwell Friends or Edmond Burke. This info has just leaked out from a well placed source working in the DC Private School sector. These schools have 2 things in common: Very Exclusive and Very Expensive. Why are we NOT surprised?

Obama hypocrite school choice
So, the public schools are good enough for the poor in DC, but not for his kids. Why am I not surprised? They are all limousine liberals phonier than $2 bills. No vouchers for the poor, but his brats will cost him almost $60,000 per YEAR to attend toney prep schools. I hope the poor blacks in inner city DC rip his legs off when they see how little he cares about THEIR kids.

JEFFREY AND MOST OF YOU ARE GARBAGE
I guess they should live in the projects and drive AMC Pacers. HYPOCRITS!!. This the PRESIDENT of the USA I repeat the PRESIDENT of the USA. Ivy schooled parents looking to send their children to the best schools is hardly anamoly. Vouchers are a joke any moron THAT knows that simple laws of economics that if everyone was given a voucher the demand would go up and of course price. Voucher would just be discounts to the wealthy..THATS WHY THE VOUCHER SYSTEM IS STUPID. Also you dumb conservatives seem not to realize that these elite schools wouldnt want to deal with regualations that would mostly come with vouchers

to J from CA
Garbage? Nice. Way to help unite us all. We need more kindness in this world just like you have shown here. Bravo. Well Done. Hope you feel really good about yourself and your pres- elect.

It's not like it's hard to do, right?...
Here's an item from today's news. Barack Obama's frequent trip to the local barber shop has turned the business into a "tourist mecca"...To handle this bottleneck, the Obama team has asked the barber to cut the Pres-elects hair at a private apartment.....Now. Let's look at this public school thing REALISTICALLY...We're going to have his kids attend a public school which has open access- by law!- to any and every curiousity, plank and/or threat wihtin an environment that's improbable to control (this ain't 1976)...We're going to dismiss the obvious security concerns because "hey, it's Obama's kids and it's an ideological message"....Better still, let's forget about the whole Whitehouse thing and suggest that Obama rent a 3 bedroom townhouse and commute to work. He can establish his "man of the people" bonefides...Don't you guys have a political party to put back together?...Could it be a NEW STRATEGY for the faithful to worry about their own gameplan and stop with the smears, fears and put downs of a guy who's yet to take office??...Maybe it's time for the GOP to start talking about a plan FORWARD rather than slamming the Dems?...Maybe it's time to broaden the scope and outreach of a party which consisted of a total of 8% minority representation (Black,Asian,Hispanic) for their latest convention?...Maybe....Ah forget it..It's clear that the Party of Lincoln is bankrupt of anything other than criticism and intolerance...With that in mind: Palin!,Palin!, Palin!

OBAMA KNEW VOUCHERS ARE NEEDED
OBAMA HAVE BEEN A HUGE FAN OF THE DC VOUCHER PROGRAM ONLY COMPLAINING THAT MORE CHILDERN CAN NOT GET IN IT. HE CAN HELP AS PREISDENT BY SEEKING THE FUNDING THE VOUCHER PROGRAM NEED. THE VOUCHER PROGRAM WOULD ALLEVIATE OVER CROWDING AND ALLOW THE PROGRAMS THE SUPERINTENDENT HAVE BEGUN IN THE SYSTEM TO CONTINUE TO GROW. I DO UNDERSTAND THE CHAOS OF SECRET SERVICE BEING IN A PUBLIC SCHOOL DAILY.
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY NOT EVEN OBAMA COULD BLOW.

Hypocrisies abound...
Why do we see so much hypocrisies, especially from the liberal Democratic leadership?

This is just one example. Few Senators and Congressmen/women who support revitalizing public schools actually send their kids to one of them in D.C.

Then you have a guy that says is "patriotic" to pay taxes to help the poor and the middle-class, but give a paltry $3000 dollars in charitable donations in the past 10 years, despite making more than $2 millions in the same period.

You have a guy who lives in a mansion that consumers more than 20 times energy than average American homes, flying around in private jets to lecture people to reduce carbon emission.

You also have someone who "champions" alternative energy but shot down a plan to build a windmill farm at his favorite sailing place near his mansion.

The sitting President, who supposedly favors big oil companies and destroying the environment, actually built a far more echo-friendly ranch than the Chief Priest of the Global Warming cult:

http://www.snopes.com/politics/bush/house.asp

Security Nightmare
All of my children attended public schools ...and they're now high-achieving adults [an engineer, an investment manager for a major pension fund, etc.]. So I'm a strong proponent of public schools ... and I agree with Gene and Carlos on most of their points.

A private school setting is the ONLY practical solution for the Presidents children. There are too many "crazies" out there..and the risks for the children in public schools would be unreasonable [indeed unconscionable].

Jim-Too

Only reason
The NEA and teachers union...that's why Obama will oppose vouchers. It has nothing to do with getting educated. He will sacrifice the children in return for votes. He just another political hack.

Truth hurts....
Truth hurts ???? Do libs even know what that word means??? The truth is McCain was 100% right when he stated that school choice is the new civil rights movement it’s obvious and the stats prove it The truth is that minorities have a higher percentage of their children in falling schools and just as with civil rights it will be the Republicans that will set thing right because the Dem’s are hooked on the monies of big unions just like a cheap crack whore and will sell out those they pretend to care about . A shift is coming when finally the people stuck in all these failing public schools, stuck there by economics really see who the Dem’s are watching out for, “big money unions”. Just then “ A beam of light will come down upon them and they will experience an epiphany … and they will suddenly realize that they must go to the polls and VOTE FOR CONSERATISM!!!!!!

OK, TruthHurts
Here are some ideas. Teachers must demonstrate knowledge of the subjects they teach, and preferably have degress in those subjects. Teachers of subjects that can command higher salaries (math, science, etc.) are paid accordingly. Better teachers get bigger raises than lesser teachers, based upon annual performance evaluations. The worst teachers can be fired for underperformance. Children can be disciplined, including expulsion, for poor behavior without school fear of punitive damanges from lawsuits. These are all common sense prescriptions, yet not the way of the world in just about any public school. Why? All but the last are opposed by teachers unions. Note that I didn't include vouchers in this list - if these steps were taken, we probably wouldn't need them.

By the way, if I was an above-average teacher I would be livid with the unions for forcing me to be paid the same as a below-average teacher. Who in this scenario benefits the most? That's right - the worst teachers. Great system.

Home schooling, vouchers & NCLB
This was posted in a H.S. Might have some relevanxce to the discussion:

No Child Left Behind in Football Terms:

1. All teams must make the state playoffs and all MUST win the championship. If a team does not win the championship, it will be on probation until they are the champions, and coaches will be held accountable. If, after two years, they have not won the championship, their equipment will be taken away UNTIL they do win the championship.

2. All children will be expected to have the same football skills at the same time, even if they do not have the same conditions or opportunities to practice on their own. NO exceptions will be made for lack of interest in football, a lack of desire to perform athletically, genetic abilities, or disabilities of themselves OR THEIR PARENTS. All children will play football at a proficient level.

3. Talented players will be asked to workout on their own, without instruction, because the coaches will be using all their instructional time with the athletes who aren’t interested in football, have limited athletic ability or whose parents don’t like football.

4. Games will be played year round, but statistics will only be kept in the 4th, 8th and 11th games. This will create a New Age of Football where every school is expected to have the same level of talent and all teams will reach the minimum goals in Paragraph 1.

Remember, if no child gets ahead, then no child gets left behind.

Stupidity uber alles wins again.

Send Your Children to D.C. Public School
I wander how the president would handle his children being restricted to a public school where only conservative Christian values were taught, where his beliefs were ridiculed, and violence ran rampant because Godly values had become prehistoric.

The decline of the belief that the Bible and Godly values have a place in ever home has a direct correlation with violence.

You can be assured that the president will not put his children in harms way. To bad that ever school doesn’t have secret service looking out for your child.

Great article Mr. Jeffrey!
Lets make certain that we understand that the same worthless Congress which brings us mortgage and banking disasters, also provides the residents of Wash., D.C. with public schools...at outrageous cost! (have you ever heard of cheap from Congress?) And, of course, those crappy teachers are guaranteed their HIGH wages by the NEA and their union!! Do I have the mantra right? more $$, more $$$, more $$$!

And, of course, YOU ARE DAMN RIGHT President and First Lady Obama ARE DARN WELL NEVER GOING TO PERMIT THEIR TWO (beautiful) CHILDREN TO ATTEND THOSE CRAPPY SCHOOLS! Thanks Congress, thanks NEA, thanks teacher's union! The Obama's are no fools!! It's NON-UNION for them!!!!!

Wonderful response, wish I'd thought of that!!

Interview with President-Elect Obama
Q: Since you will be moving to Washington and therefore moving your daughters from their current school in Chigago, do you anticipate enrolling them in DC public schools?

BO: Are you kidding? They suck!

Q: Are you aware they are run by our Democratic Congress after complete failure by the Democratic DC City Council?

BO: Sorry, the teleprompter was down. What I meant was it sucks that we can't send our daughters to DC public schools because the security issues would be unfairly disruptive to the other students. Now excuse me, I have a transition meeting with President Bush. Or something.

bfred
You are right on !!! Wish we could move to Texas. But we are in our twilight years. Our grandchildren are down there and hopefully, with "w" staying in Crawford ,we good people ,4 years from now might have a chance.
NO OBAMA AND NO OSAMA FOR THIS OLD BOY ! God help us. WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obamas and vouchers. Hah!
Public schools are "for the people" sillies.
You know, the ommon folk who need their kids re-educated in the true Obama theory. At best.
Should have been with me today. Showing a house near Dillard High in Ft. Lauderdale. 15 yr. old girl shot and killed another 15 yr.old School in lockdown like a max security prison.
Dillard is and has been rated a D school for years. Hayull of a football team though.

No Public Schools for Elites..
Actually kids can get a decent education in Public schools even in WV!! My son went to public schools and never had any problem getting at LEAST ":wait-listed" at Brown, Duke etc and had no problems graduating Emory in 4 years..He's not a Genius, so public school isn't a death sentence. But I truly believe PS is out of the question for the Obamas, even if they were receptive...TOO MANY potential pitfalls...

When are the people of America
going to wake up. Amost all the politicians who reside in DC and their staffs and high-level bureaucrats send their kids to private schools -- while demanding the poor and middle class send their children to crappy public schools.

Don't people get it -- the elites take care of the elites and make darn sure that the riff raff don't join their ranks.

The Senate is full of millionaires, political appointees leave "public service" and immediately become millionaires. Many people enter the House of Representatives as middle/upper middle class and by the time they leave they are worth millions.

If the American people would wake-up and stop with the partisan insanity maybe we could hold these people accountable, but no the same failures get elected over and over.

As I said just before ur post..PS kids can get ahead..The one I spoke just spoke recently bought a house in Burke, so he's OK

I know that Roy
and there are public schools that might as well be private.

But there is a point here the politicians tax us more and more to pay for schools they themselves would never use.

And then there are schools like DC's that are so bad they determined a few years ago that the longer a child stayed in them before dropping out the lower their basic skills became.

And don't ever believe that the elites don't like segregating their kids from everyone else.

Lulu
Please don't confuse me with a proponent of the Elites, whoever they are..Schools should be left to the States/Municipalities and keep the Feds out of as much as we can.\
I spent my "year or two of Penance" in Ulcer Gulch, AKA The Pentagon, and left never to return!! I do go to Burke once in awhile,,CHEERS

This is just another sad
example of Obama and his leftist illuminati rhetoric. He promises one thing and does another. We're going to see plenty more of this between now and 2012.

BHO Knows
The public schools are govt. institutions that indoctrinate and babysit your kids while you are out earning money to support the government.

You know it is patriotic to pay more taxes- at the expense of your kids. It is your constitutional right.

Get real
I believe the last child of a President to attend public school was Amy Carter, in the 1970s. If Obama sent his daughter to PS it would cause too much of a disruption to the school and other kids. Plus, these are more dangerous times, he probably feels safer with his kids in private school. Come on, he'll be President. Hid kids don't need to be thrown into the middle of things.

Public Schools?
Barry is going to get this own spit in his face, if he does not send his girls to public school. He had promised to fixed all the ills we have, but I think either he is going to find a private school for them or have someone to tutor them. Now he is power and has to be treated as so. Meantime we the people, can't afford special schools has to take what we have like it or not, that's what the boat brought us, there is nothing we can do. Is good to be in higher place, have money and tell others you can't have it & must sacrifices to help others? WOW, how sweet it is and more coming your way. You have the change you voted for and have to suffer the consequences.
Most of you did not even bother to get informed what the candidates stand for in issues and how they will affect everyone as a whole. Voted spiteful or their pockets, their stomach, and the freebies offered without proof. Wake up America we are going down the hill and it's not a pretty picture. Our country is put in bankruptcy by the self-centered, selfish liars politicians sent to Congress that become millionaires once they get their job.

Obama's promises?
Jeff.
If the messiahs had told the truth to the American voters, he will not had been elected. He knew it and that's why his sweet smooth talks with a grinning smile he could not hide. It means now that voters got the messiahs they asked for, no use of complaining now. It's too late, so be as happy as you did voted. Be a real good sport and bear it with the same valor.
By the way go to African Press International-API and get some interesting news you will not hear on our socialist/leftist media. It's amazing. Hint: 41 Kenyans, 3 of them cooks, his Indonesians step father's relatives and schoolmates will join the White House as his employees, while American citizens are without a job and are struggling to survive!??????
How sweet it is to be lucky to get a job, just by being a relatives, friends, or well known person!!!!!!!!!!!Was this preach before by BHO?, yes, it was his promised, while visiting his country, if he got elected! Promised kept. WOW!

Clinton v Pres. Bubba
At least the reprehensible anti-Semite Jimmy Peanut sent Amy to D.C. PUBLIC schools. The Clintons PRAISED the D.C. schools then sent Chelsea to the exclusive EXPENSIVE and elite Sidwell Friends School.

That will be Obama's modus also. First talk up the public schools and then send the kids to a private school, preferable a Swiss boarding school.

Soli Deo Gloria!!

Hmmmm
Such a dilemma. What would Hugo Chavez do? Elitist radical socialists never live the life they create for the proletariat. Black American children will be the education victims of the Obama education policy.

Do As I Say, Not As I Do
This is akin to Barbra Streisand ranting about humans contributing to global warming while flying around in a private jet.

Remember President Carter? He may have been a rotten president, but at least he wasn't a hypocrite -- he sent Amy to public school. Of course, he should have advocated for vouchers AND sent her to private school - look how she turned out.

Meanwhile, I'll continue to pay to educate the huge number of illegal immigrants in my public schools AND my kids tuition; I don't expect to get any help from Mr. Obama

school choice and school choice
repost from Cal Thomas article but applicable here too:

Any one with the means can do just as the Obamas
did. This is one form of school choice.

The kind of school choice Cal is talking about
could cost us taxpayers about another 12% of
our paychecks as I reckon - since about 12%
of students are outside the public school
system.

Now me, I am for public school choice - as long
as a public school is not filled to capacity
and a child of school age that can get to the
school's doors every day that child should be
able to attend. Additional cost to the
taxpayer - minimal (not none - I think some
would leave private schools to attend a public
school of their choice)

did obama promise to send his kids tops?
can someone please cite this?

Many thanks.

So let's see
The same vile spewing, underwear showing hip hip ghetto rap thugs that got out the vote for the Omen are not good enough classmates for his daughters?

One would think that they walk on water just like their father and mother, and would not only provide but exude from each and every pore of their bodies the essence of CHANGE to their classmates in the public school system in DC.

If in case they feel differently then the time has come Omen & South Side Barbie to give the same advantage, you know vouchers to the hard working families and their children.

Like, start speding the wealth of a good education that you apperently seem to enjoy and stop ignoring the rest of us!

This is sick period.
We lost an election fine deal with it . I don't get what his kids has to do with this. These are young kids man ,what's next you're going after babies next. So what he against vouchers, what does that have to do with his kids..Don't bring kids into politics ...

Faux pa
Can you answer your own questions. Thought this all had to do with CHANGE! Those that thank God, like the Omen did, should walk the walk that they talk, right?

Yo Faux
Let;snot get into the baby issue, yo knw bro abortnation issue that all you trolls like to bring up! Thank your mamma for her clear heart when it came ta ya!

Where are the trolls defending
Obama. This is just an early obvious example of his real elitist career politician self. Anyone who believed a word he said deserves all the crud headed your way. He probably got 99 per cent of the DC vote and what were they relaly voting for. Change? Don't be silly. Obama is the very refined essence of the one way snake oil salesmen who piously proclaim their pain for the common man as they make certain they legislate huge retirement benefits for themselves, well funded and completely separate from the non-funded social security program. He is tremendously beholden to unions, just like Carter, and the economy will take the same dive into stagnation. When business slows, as it is now as the innovators and entrpreneurs play CMA, it is the unskilled illiterates at the bottom who get hit first. And when things get tough they blame so called big business. As if big business loved slowdowns and low profits. But come on trolls. Join Faux, who drags in the red herring of keep kids out of politics. Maybe you can find another explanation for why Obama makes certain it is more difficult for the common man to have his advantages.

2 Dr Chaz
No Hugo has his children(alibet under a different surname) in schools in Switzerland along with his billions!

Omen
And South Side Barbie, need to walk the walk and talk the talk. Their daughters are now the young examples set forth to our nation that a public school education is best for all our children.

walk the talk
Can someone show me where Obama has said he
does not support private schools or that he
only supports public schools?

Many thanks for your help.

public vs. private schools
a repost but one worth some good info:

"A $10,000 to $16,000 voucher would put your child in the finest private schools in this nation."

Actually it wouldn't. The finest schools all
cost more than this - see previous post.

Most are $20,000 +

The schools the Obamas are looking at are
Sidwell Friends - $29,000 tuition + $1000
to $1500 fees
http://www.sidwell.edu/admissions/tuition.asp

Georgetown DAy School - $29,000
http://www.gds.org/adm/tuition.cfm

Maret Hope about $27,000
http://www.maret.org/admission/affording_maret/index.aspx

The Chicago Lab school where they currently
attend is a little over $20,000

The best private schools all cost over $20,000
+ as far as I know. There might be exceptions
to the rule but those would be exceptions.

Dude these are kids 10 and 8 year olds
I don't don't care what anyone politics is bro. Kids to me is are out of it period. These are young kids bro. Calling people troll because they don't agree with you .Only show that you're really weak minded.

Doesn't make sense
As a teacher in a public school, a single mother with two children, I know first handedly the school system is not working. I currently am making sacrifices for my children to receive a better education. One that is not being offered in the public schools at the present. Why would one expect the President, who can afford better for his children, to send his children to a system that is failing to prove a point. That is crazy. The system needs to be fixed first, then once fixed, I can see his sending his children to public school. My advice, fix the schools, which may take a while, then if his kids aren't already in college then put them in public school. Leave the President alone. At the present, lets stand behind him to fix the schools instead of ridicule him for being a good parent who is financially secure enough to afford a better school for his children. It is not his fault that the education system has been neglected for inner city schools since they were opened for all students.
