Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Up until the 1930s, the United States maintained a small federal government that mostly focused on the limited number of things the Constitution authorized it to do.

Americans were responsible for their own food, clothing and shelter, and if they could not take care of themselves, they looked to their extended family, their neighbors, their churches and local governments to give them a helping hand.

Charity in America in those days did not mean the federal government compelling you to hand over some of your property to the state so the state could hand it over to someone else.

Americans did not believe in spreading the wealth -- they believed in earning it. The term compassionate conservative had not been coined.

There was no federal welfare state before the 1930s.

That year, according to historical data published by the White House Office of Management and Budget, the entire federal government spent only 3.4 percent of gross domestic product. Because federal tax receipts equaled to 4.2 percent of GDP in 1930, there was a federal budget surplus equal to 0.8 percent of GDP.

Within a decade, things changed dramatically. In 1940, Franklin Delano Roosevelt -- founder of the modern American welfare state -- was preparing to break George Washington's self-imposed limit of two presidential terms.

Although the nation was still at peace, the federal government had grown almost threefold -- when measured as a percentage of GDP -- from what it had been in 1930. Federal spending in 1940 was 9.8 percent of GDP. Federal tax receipts were 6.8 percent. The Treasury borrowed 3 percent of GDP to make up the difference.

In fiscal year 2009, according to OMB's estimates, the federal government will spend 20.7 percent of GDP while taking in 18 percent of GDP in taxes. The Treasury will borrow 2.7 percent of GDP, much of it from foreign creditors, to make up the difference.

And that does not count the $700 billion the Treasury will borrow to fund the financial industry bailout.

Today, the federal government eats up more than twice as much of our national wealth as it did in 1940 and more than six times as much as it did in 1930.

What did Americans get for this massive increase in government? More of their life is now mortgaged to the government, and they are now more dependent on government.

Most of the growth in federal spending has come in the sector that the OMB calls "human resources." As currently budgeted, this includes federal spending on education, training, social services, health programs, veterans benefits and services, income security programs, Medicare and Social Security.

In 1940, the "human resources" part of the federal budget consumed 4.3 percent of GDP. In 2009, it will consume 13 percent, or three times as much.

Before the current economic crisis hit, the American welfare state was on an unsustainable trajectory. The Government Accountability Office informed the Senate in January that it estimated there was a $53 trillion gap between the entitlement benefits the federal government has promised to pay over the next 75 years to people now living in the United States and the tax revenue that can be expected to pay for those benefits.

Then-Comptroller General David Walker said that for the government to cover this gap every American household would need to put up about $455,000.

That is the size of the mortgage the federal government has already taken out in the name of every American family.

We got to this place because politicians for decades have been telling voters they would give them something for nothing -- when what they really meant was they would take money from one set of people and give it to another.

When they borrowed vast sums to keep their welfare-state politics rolling, they were taking money away from future generations -- our children and grandchildren.

Now we are being told we face the greatest economic crisis since the 1930s. And we are being offered the same solution: more federal programs so Uncle Sam can take better care of us.

In other words, the politicians want to take out a second mortgage on top of the $455,000 they have already put on our backs.

America is heading down the blind alley of big government toward the brick wall of national bankruptcy. The only way out is to turn the truck completely around and head back toward small government, self-reliance and freedom.

Common sense
I wish I heard some of this from mainstream media. But would the majority understand it?

small government= restraining ourselves
Small government means planning for your family's OWN education and safety net (retirement, healthcare, disability insurance, life insurance.) Do not talk small government and then rely on government for these things.

Let your children hear and see that you take care of yourself and your own families and extended families. Let them see you give to efficient reliable charities for those in need.

Especially teach them to be disciplined and self controlled. If they can govern themselves we will need less government to restrain them. We have a lot of government for people who fail to manage their personal lives in criminal, civil, and family courts.

Some say it's no one's business but their own if they have a child custody/support dispute or divorce, but the taxpayers are paying for the government entities that mediate and settle disputes and the police that enforce court orders.

They say it's no one's business who they sleep around with, but the taxpayers pay a lot of government subsidized childcare, healthcare, food stamps and housing.

Some say it’s no one’s business how they handle their personal finances, but we’ve all felt the results of bad lending practices on our 401Ks.

The list goes on.

There’s been a failure of parents passing on the traditional values of self discipline, hard work, savings, fidelity, civility, charity, self control, etc. for at least three generations now and we’re paying dearly for it.

on second thought...
I should have written ...but we've all felt the results of bad personal financal decisions on our 401Ks."

Subject: Banana Republic ?

America has chosen it's poison. It looks like America wants to go the way of California ; Bankrupt financially, economically, morally and spiritually. No amount of "Kumbaya" will change this.

Say hello to the new, prosperous, capitalist societies such as China, India and Brazil. They all had varying degrees of experience with socialism and Marxism and have decided to emulate what truly works : Capitalism.

We are embarking on a long bitter journey to find out what they all have known for a long time.

I just hope that the new economic giants will be as generous with foreign aid as we were...we will need it!

Downsize Government
As long as government keeps growing, we will continue to pay taxes to support employees that are rarely fired, get paid better than the average taxpayer, and have better retirement benefits. The ignorant electorate just ensured that the government will keep expanding.

AMEN Homeschool Mom in AZ.
I too am a homeschool mom and can't agree more.
My fear is under the Obamanation reign we'll no longer have the right to homeschool...He wants to indoctrinate our kids starting at age 0 and then his buddy Bill Ayers will get them after that.
Good Lord I'm scared for my kids...The 14th amendment gives us the right to raise our kids as we see fit it's only a matter of time before the socialists do everything in their power to change it.
This is the saddest day in American History I've yet to witness.
I have the determination to do everything in my power to do what I can to stop what's coming but all the real constitutionally correct Americans have to band together to stop this plague.

God Bless the USA...we sure need it

I have two requests for Republicans:
1. The Dems have been annoying us with Bush's supposed illigitimacy because of the close race in Florida in 2000. Don't do the same thing with Obama - he's an American, and he won fair and square. Hawaii validated his birth certificate the other day. NO WHINING!

2. Next time, don't fall for this "nominate someone moderate enough to pick up the independant vote" garbage. I hope the results of this election repudiate that fallacy for the next generation at least... Let's run a good conservative next time.

downsize government
Bravo, Sam in Iowa! And bravo to most of the people who post on Townhall. Now is the time to let all of your elected representatives in the House and Senate know that for every new spending bill they propose, they must scrap five in existence. Every single one of us certainly can write our distinguished officials with clarity to suggest that they stop spending our tax dollars faster than we earn the money. They need to be reminded frequently by all of us that that they are replaceable.

Small Government
So let's start talking about the Constitution Party, and put "big government" Republicanism on the antique shelf. If your "principle" is small government, then why not vote your "principle"?Simply too much ignorance among the conservatives. Quit wasting your vote, and start putting in office people who believe the way you do (man, that's an interesting concept).

America is getting what it deserves
It's too bad those of us with common sense have to suffer for those who voted Obama. Americans are in for a rude awakening. Wait til those of you who voted for the messiah find out what you really got. If you think the economy is in bad shape now wait til you see how far south it goes under the dems. For those who have forgotten the horrors of 911 there will be another one soon and it will make 9/11/01 look like a picnic in the park.

Re: Constitution Party
For those that are nodding their heads at this proposal, there is a really good read (10 part series)at Robert Ringer's website on the need for the Liberty Education Solution...which I believe is a first step needed to lay the foundation for the Constitution Party. Not until there is an informed electorate can we begin the journey of return to the America our Founding Fathers blessed us with...check it out:

Common Sense 101
I used to think that maybe conservatives were too hard on taxers and spenders. That maybe illegals and social services needed new laws to help them out. Then I asked myself what happened to the old laws? What happened to the money already spent? Then I looked at government inefficiencies run amok. They've never got it right all the way. Some good starts but continuous bureaucratic boondoggles in the end.

People our message should be one thing. "Government, either show me you can follow existing laws and live within a budget or cut it off and start over!" Two years isn't long if you make this point with congress. If we don't organize today we have only ourselves to blame. We can be just as efficient as Oblaba was and won't even have to cheat.

For NY Connie @ 08:46
Your prediction mirrors Canada's experience 1993-2003 (admittedly, I had already left Canada for US by Jan 1994, but...).

1993, GST was one of the issues that brought down the PC's--and Liberal leader Jean Chrétien actually had promised to abolish it (which he didn't). I voted a Reform candidate (who has been incumbent MP since 1993) due to both the disaster the PC's had brought and my unforgiveness of the disaster the Liberals had wrought earlier (including NEP--which had been architected by Chrétien).

C$ went down during that time from US$0.72 to $0.59. After 2006 (election of Harper), C$ went up again (even briefly going over the US$, a rate not seen since 1976).

Yes, I see bh0 as a black syncretistic (he claims to be a Christian, was educated in a madrassa and actually keeps a Hanuman charm) version of Jimmy Dhimmi Carter.

The "Constitution" Party...
...does not support The U.S. Constitution. Check out the The 7 Principles of the Constitution Party on their Web site. Only two of them preserve the intent of The U.S. Constitution.

But do we have the resolve?
Of course America needs to do a 180 on our out-of-control government entitlement philosophy. But when you offer the people the easy way out for long enough, their resolve weakens and they tend to take the path of least resistance. We are selfish beings with "desperately wicked" hearts, from a biblical perspective. Even our Church illuminati are getting it wrong today. Sad.

Today is the day
we need to start rebuilding a party that believes in the constitution and small government. I've looked at them all and cant find one.

Ahem...
Give me the children until they are seven and anyone may have them afterwards.
St. Francis Xavier
Its already happened and they have them till they are 21

Well,
That article was informative, well written. Like children, the American has become spoiled. Trouble is, the cure for a spoiled child is an a$$ whoopin'. Trouble is, even the innocent have to get one because of the self-indulgent brats in this country.

FDR and the Great Depression
FDR is hailed as a savior for ending the Great Depression. One of the great fallacies of our times. FDR floundered about until WW II pulled us out of the depression.

But his New Deal lives on as though it were a great success. Social Security, intended as a small addition to savings for retirement, has now become an "income" that those who save nothing can live off of...and complain that it isn't enough.

If his policies had been a blip, ending after a few years, it might not have metastasized like a growing cancer.

Ironically, a "Living Constitution" seems to coincide with the dying principles that American was founded on. Modern politicians who fancy themselves better suited than the Founding Fathers to "manage" the Constitution represent the worst that America has to offer.

But these days, we have to seek the favor of the "global community" to validate our way of life.

Must be the heroic way that Europe saved the US in two World Wars in the 20th century. Oops! I forgot for a moment: it was the US that saved THEM! Given that, whence comes their presumed superiority to America in all manners of things?

Oh, well. Prez election break is over. Back to teaching our kids to speak Spanish so that they will be able to thrive in the 21st century.

Or is it Chinese?

Big Government Conservatives
How many marriage amendments did the Big Government Conservatives champion this year?

It is no coincidence that Conservatives, Islamo Fascists and Communists, all support the oppression of homosexuals and support government regulation of our private moral decisions.

We already have a party for small government. It's called the Libatarian Party.

Liberalism is the ideology of small government...

Conservatism, whether in North Korea, Iran or the USA, will always bring us bigger and bigger government.

voxoreason its just a suspician
but I think china is where a lot of money came that was spent on this election. Before the left responds they had the MSM for no apparent reason declare the winner over a year ago. OK sheep can you all say Baaaaaaa.

yet another confusing, non-sequitur lefty post. If you like state-sanctioned gay behavior, move to Massachusetts, it's not that far from New York.

ideology vs. results
The theme continues that conservatives prefer ideology over results. So you'd prefer to have the Great Depression back?

There are hard-working people that voted for Obama because they can't get health care and when people in their position in other countries can. They enjoy better health and pay less per capita. They're also willing to make sure their countrymen are all well educated. They pay for their education so they don't have to pay for their incarceration. Unfortunately, there are still so many selfish, short-sighted people in the US who believe the Every Man for Himself credo will build a better society.

Proud to be an American.

The Citizens of America have Spoken

The American citizenry by an overwhelming margin, has spoken for 'Change' from freedom and the rights of the individual citizen, to 'Socialism' and the rights of 'Collective' citizens.

Americans are free to chose what form of government they want, and they have chosen.

The Liberty and Freedom to choose a form of government is an American right and I support that right.

Socialism has brought untenable problems wherever it has been tried and will continue too, until the end of mankind.

Socialists and Marxists always believe that the reason their theories of government has never worked, is because the leadership was never the right person.

Socialists and Marxists now believe they have the right leader in Barack Obama.

Only time and history will tell, whether Barack Obama is indeed that 'Socialist/Marxist' leader that can bring Socialism to America and make it work.

Until 2010, We have a chance to start turning America back into a Constitutional Republic and an economic system that built America into the greatest country in History - Capitalism

Liberate TarahnHall
Michael that is the point. It shouldn't matter were I live in these united state. Not matter were I live, people should have the right to wed any consenting human they want and for that matter as many humans as they want.

Government should not decide who is married and who is not, churches should make that decision for their own congregations.

But Big Government Conservatives, like Islom facists and Communists, are not happy just living by their own philosophy. No they feel compelled to force it on everyone else as well.

Well here is my worning to Republicans. Either abandon the values of Big Government Conservatism, or loose lots of more elections, cause American wants government out of our private lives and limited to protecting Life, Liberty and Property.

Geek
Why do students from the "socialist" countries outscore ours?

Why do they "socialist" countries enjoy better health for lower per capita costs?

If their "socialism" is so bad, why hasn't one voted to remove it?

American wants government out of our private lives and limited to protecting Life, Liberty and Property.

No, they don't. Prop 8!

GOP voters don't want smaller government
Otherwise, they would have voted for Ron Paul in the primary.

Open letter to the RNC
Part (A)
Here is a letter I sent to the RNC and every person I could find the e-mail for.
I send it off in 2006. Not one soul answered me!

An open letter to the R.N.C.

Educate Via Ads

I strongly believe that the RNC and / or conservative groups should advertise. The ads must be run well in advance of the political season. I strongly believe that this advertising should be simple, attractive, and upbeat. These ads should quote from the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the writings of great Americans. These ads should celebrate important people and events in American history, the adds should present the real facts about big picture issues, (the economy, the family and immigration) and reveal the truth behind common liberal rhetoric (e.g. government spending = tax payer dollars). The government creates no wealth, just redistributes it. Our citizenry needs to understand that “Free health care” is not FREE.

The left plays the envy/race card with: “tax cuts for the ‘rich’”. The ‘rich’, the top 50% of the population, pay 96.54% of the taxes, and the top 1% pay 34.17%. Americans value fair play, and the fact that we over-tax the producers and reward the non-producers goes against our country’s most basic beliefs.

These ads should not focus on narrow policy debates or highly controversial issues (e.g.,capital gains tax cuts, abortion), but should be aimed at promoting core conservative values of limited government, private property, free enterprise, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and patriotism. The ads must be rigorously nonpartisan. Any open party affiliation will undermine the integrity of the message. Cultural and political transformation, not partisan point scoring, must be the touch stone. The ads must have a website attached for further information.

Open letter to the RNC
Part (B)
Both parties spend 10’s of millions on ads at election time. Don’t wait until election time. Educate the citizenry about true conservatism before election time and you won’t have worry at the polls. Conservatives are working at saving our nation. Ronald Reagan will NOT be riding in to save our country. Why not use what he did best? Go straight to the people over the head of the MSM. How can you hear the line: America, the shining city on the hill and not feel proud to be American. Or, how can you not have a tear in your eye when you hear the line: These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. Americans -want- to feel good about their country. You will be making converts for life. We are not selling people / canadates, we are selling ideas!
It can be done with advertising.

Terrence
We could have used you the past eight years. Where were ya??

Republicans did have the 'audacity' to increase farm subsidies from 2001-2007 to the princely sum of $34 billion a year.

We have ethanol mandates, sugar, cotton, soybean, wheat and many more agricultural handouts for the Midwest. These teat-suckers need to get their mouths off the nipples of the government sow. This is a Republican wealth-redistribution program from America's east and west coasts to America's heartland, with America's heartlands values.

Why would one believe that sugar should be subsidized, unless, of course, you are a dentist?

Why should cotton be subsidized, since most of it is exported, the number one importer of cotton is China? Who believes that Chinese manufacturing should be subsidized by the American taxpayer?

It takes a gallon of oil to make a gallon of ethanol. No more mandates! If an American farmer can't compete in the global marketplace, then they can always get a job at Walmart, as a 'greeter.'

once again, Terrence
Where were you the past eight years???

The Democrats shouldn't win, but the Republicans deserve to lose. Here's why.

It's Republican thought that has brought on this financial meltdown. Spending more than you have will surely lead to disaster.

It was Republicans who spend more than the Democrats. They increased pork barrel spending from 3,000 to 14,000 projects a year, NOT PAID FOR.

They have engaged in a five and half year social engineering project in the Middle East that costs $120 billion a year and may well last another 100 years, NOT PAID FOR.

They have added another layer of entitlement spending that costs $50 billion a year called Medicare Prescription, NOT PAID FOR.

Mandated $4 billion a year in ethanol subsidies, as well as drastically increased cotton, sugar, soybean, corn, wheat handouts, NOT PAID FOR.

Doubled the size of the Department of Education, NOT PAID FOR.

How would you pay for all this spending? It took 210 years for the first $5 trillion and debt and only 7 years of Republican control to double it. It's nigh time for some fiscal Republicanism.

Retired Geek
Isn't the $750 Bush-Bolshevik bank bailout Socialism? The Republican party is very similar to the Bolshevik party in Russia circa 1917.

Russia was governed by a tri-umvirate of three men called Vladimir Lenin, Leon Trosky and Joseph Stalin.

Today Republican Bolshevists are George Bush, Hank Paulson and Ben Bernanke.

To bad
the GOP doesn't agree with you Terry. Who is this article for? Do you think McCain would have brought us smaller government?

There was one republican candidate that truly supported smaller government and he was rejected by the GOP.

You have Boehner writing articles on TH about how they have learned their lesson, yada, yada and then he pushes the bail out on us. What a hypocritical liar.

And guess what? Now that these republicrats have been rejected they will start blabbing again about small government and the constitution, and no one is going to beleive them.

You know the saying, Fool me once.........

2 Connie NY
Americans have stronger recall of who won on Dancing with the Star's then what happened on 9/11. It is quite remarkable, and most do not realize that 9/11 greatly effected our economy.

An attack now will be the final blow, yet a Messiah was elected.

As a fellow NY'er you understand all to well the bloated corrupt government that runs this state and now wants Americans to bail them out for their dysfunctional mismanagement.

Wall street is quietly closing down, with the Messiah in the Oval Office and his looming capital gains tax, look for all money to be taken out of the market and the final collapse of NYC the economic engine that runs this state!
All other states will quicky follow

Short Term Loss Long Term Gain
The defeat of John McCain could be the best thing to happen in the conservative movement since the Gipper. It is time for traditional small government, fiscally responsible Republicans to take our party back.

Since 2000 the Rockefeller's Republicans, and the neocons, have run this party into the ground. "Compassionate Conservatism" was a joke. This election was all about George W Bush, his out of control spending, the war, and GOP corruption. Republicans must offer a real alternative to the Democrats. We are expected to be the responsible adults in government, not the spoiled brats like the Democrats.

Americans dont want moderate big governemnt conservatives. Look Fred, Barnes talked with such disdain about the Republicans that went to Sarah's rallies on Fox News last night. He referred to us as low class, low income, not your traditional Republicans. Im sorry if were are not eliete enough for you but last time I checked John, wasnt getting 13,000+ @ rallies in places like Indiana. The middle class is the base of this party. We have always been the party of the working man!!! Sarah Palin is the only reason I voted for McCain, and supported him with such enthusiasm.

2010 and 2012 are golden opprotunities for us to run young, "true believers", in the model of Reagan. That is how we compete. We must get back to our core values!!! We have to make being a Republican cool, like Ronnie did in the 80's. Mike Pence, Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, they have to become the fact of the GOP.

I have so much respect for John McCain, but at the end of the day we was too old, too out of touch, too little too late, and too much like GWB. It was never much of a contest.

We live in a far different society than we did just 8 years ago. We cant keep being the same party. The GOP must stand for something, otherwise we stand for nothing, and this will happen every 4 years.

Lies about Marriage Amendments
Where do all the Constitutionally ignorant people keep coming from?

STATE amendments to define Marriage as one man and one woman aren't "Big Government."

First of all, it is State and not National law. Secondly, it is an amendment to the Constitution, not another document added to the pile of massive government programs.
Thirdly, it RESTRICTS that size of a State Privilege to its original boundaries - rather than expanding an entitlement.
Lastly, it is a response and counterweight to an unprecedented abuse of Judicial authority to expand the influence of Big Government.

Passing laws that hamstring Big Government is only "Big Government Conservatism" from a truly warped perspective.

In a similar vein, passing a Constitutional Amendment that eliminates the government's fabricated non-human status for unborn infants would likewise be hobbling big government. Passing a law that says, "Infanticide is infanticide," and eliminates another Big Government Judiciary power to create a separate class for Abortion ALSO shrinks the size of Government.

National Socialists are always trying to ride Big Government to create new special classes and privileges to by votes - even privileges to murder their fellow human beings.

The problem with Obama
and his leftist illuminati ideals making it to the White House is that too many of us are going to be punished as a result of his actions. Just wait until America sees the real Barry Hussein Obama now that he doesn't have to act nice and say the right things to get elected.

Real Democracy Restored

If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

Its the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

Its the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled - Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.

Its the answer that led those who have been told for so long by so many to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful of what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.

Its been a long time coming, but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment, change has come to America.

HA! HA! HA!

"SMALL GOVERNMENT" talk from the GOP!

From the BUSH party that BROKE the bank EXPANDING GOVERNMENT while giving our money to private companies, who more times than not, RIPPED US OFF.

EXAMPLE:
COMMITTEE ON GOVERNMENT REFORM; GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING UNDER THE BUSH ADMINISTRATION

Procurement Spending:
"Between 2000 and 2005, procurement spending rose by 86% to $377.5 billion annually. Spending on federal contracts grew over twice as fast as other discretionary federal spending. Under Bush, the federal government spent nearly 40 CENTS OF EVERY DISCRETIONARY DOLLAR ON CONTRACTS TO PRIVATE COMPANIES, a record level."

The Costs to the Taxpayer:
"The report identifies 118 federal contracts worth $745.5 billion that have been found by government officials to include significant waste, fraud, abuse, or mismanagement."

"The turmoil in financial markets clearly was triggered by a dramatic weakening of

But the loosening of credit standards and terms in the subprime market was symptomatic of a much broader erosion of market discipline on the standards and terms of loans to households and businesses."

Good luck
With President like GwB and Obama, this ain't gonna happen. Wish it would, though.

Right on, but too late.
Sadly, anyone who believes in limited government lost big yesterday. Now close to 40% of the American electorate is completely dependent on government. With the expected amnesty of between 30-50 million illegals, we will continue adding to the electorate those who neither understand their duty of personal responsibility in a free society nor care to learn as long as they can continue to receive panem et circensis.

Our modern welfare state captures more and more people in its nets and once there, it is unlikely they will ever get out or will have the desire to do so. Why is this such a bad thing? When the segment of the population dependent on government for its sustenance shares the same rights and privileges as those who support everyone else with their productivity, we have perpetual mandated wealth redistribution (it isn't new) until the productive segment paying the bill decides it has had enough. Typically you get a revolution or a bloodbath and a dictator. It's happened throughout history and there is nothing so special about the United States that it can't happen here at some point. Dangerous waters ahead.

Republicans=No Credibility
Under Bush, Republicans were supposed to be about small government, fiscal responsibility, freedom (not spying on fellow Americans),protecting our borders from illegals, restoring honor and integrity to the White House and at the very least capturing Bin Laden or finishing the Iraq War.

They've failed on every since count, and even ruined our economy to boot. Why should Republicans be given a second chance when they owned the Presidency, Supreme Court and both Houses of Congress for at 6 of the last 8 years.

Any intelligent person who believes this party is capable of reform and integrity is smoking something illegal. Time for a clean slate and a new Party.

The Republican Party is an entrenched Big-Government, Pro-War, Anti-Constitution, Anti-Freedom, Pro Bailout, incompetent party. I will never vote for anyone who wears the Republican label again.

START AT EDUCATION
KICK OUT THE UNIONS OUT OF EDUCATION, ELIMINATE THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION AND PROHIBIT ALL CIVIL SERVANTS, CONSULTANTS, AND HANGER ONS FROM BEING ABLE TO BE EMPLOYED ON THE STATE OR LOCAL LEVEL OF PUBLIC EDUCATION. PROHIBIT THE HIRING OF CONSULTANTS, ADVISORS, OR ANYONE WHO IS NOT DIRECTLY WORKING WITH CHILDERN ON THE PUBLIC SCHOOL PAYROLL. SUPPORT SERVICES SUCH AS NURSES, FOOD SERVICES WORKERS, TRANSPORTATION, MAINTAINCE, SECURITY, GUIDANCE CONSELORS, AND LIMITED ADMINISTRATORS. WHEN AMERICA WAS AT IT BEST IN EDUCATING ITS YOUTH THE NEA AND OTHER UNIONS WAS NOT CORRUPTING THE EDUCATION PROCESS.

Kennedy Quotation
Ask not what your country can do for you; ask that it stop doing so damned much!

Al
Karl Rove's quote, "We are building a permanent Republican majority."

This permanant majority lasted less than Adolf Hitler's 1000 year Third Reich.

Wanted: Small Government
Excellent message but, unfortunately, completely at odds with the majority of voters with their heads in the clouds sucking the rarified air of socialism at our collective detriment.

Two words to describe the majority of voters: DUPED DOPES! Our Nation just took a sharp left turn and the Framers of the Constitution just got a slap in the face by grossly ignorant voters. History shows that once a country takes the road we are now on decline is sure, possibly rapid, and direction is almost impossible to reverse.

Obsessive self-interest is what is driving the democrats/liberals, heck everyone it seems, rather than the ideals of liberty as envisioned by the Fore Fathers. Self-interest says it's OK for some other family to make the precious sacrifice of sending their loved ones to war so these "entitlement hounds" can keep on doing their pathetic little "me, me, me, routine". Let's face it, the pioneer spirit is deader than a doornail and in its place we have a Nation with their collective hands out. Ridiculous and pathetic!

O
Please take a good look at the Republican record from 2001-2007.

Spending is done by congress
I have a full analysis coming out on congressional spending, GDP and the DOW correlations. The liberal congress does add more dollars than the GOP, that said, the GOP lost all credibility and has suffered badly for it when they dropped this principle. Bush just wouldn't veto his own party in power and they abused it badly and now we all suffer. Those are the historical facts. The question remains, the right way forward isn't to elect people who will just spend more money on different stuff.
