Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Take a leap of faith. Assume Sen. Joe Biden is an intellectually rigorous man who never fails to act on his own convictions when he votes in the Senate -- and that he is especially careful in thinking things through when he votes on matters of life and death.

Now, try to entertain Joe Biden's logic -- on a matter of life and death.

"I'm prepared as a matter of faith to accept that life begins at the moment of conception," Biden said on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday. "But that is my judgment."

Biden's implication is that it is equally plausible to conclude that life does not begin at conception and that this conclusion ought to command as much respect from rational people as the conclusion that life does begin at conception. For Biden -- if you take him at his word -- the question of when life begins is not determined by science but by religion. It is not only a multiple-choice question, but a question with multiple correct answers.

"It's a personal and private issue," he said. "For me, as a Roman Catholic, I'm prepared to accept the teachings of my church. But let me tell you. There are an awful lot of people of great confessional faiths ... who have a different view. ... They believe in their faith, and they believe in human life, and they have differing views as to when life (begins)."

Now, try applying Biden's reasoning to a mammal other than homo sapiens.

Try it with polar bears -- a species whose life is so highly valued by our political establishment that the Bush administration listed it as "threatened" even though its numbers have been increasing.

Let's say one religion says polar-bear life begins at conception; another, when the polar-bear fetus is viable; another, in the third trimester of polar-bear pregnancy; another, at polar-bear birth; and yet another, not even at birth -- if the polar-bear cub is disabled.

Of course, no organized movement is demanding a "right" to kill unborn polar bears, so no organized movement is promoting the propaganda that polar bear lives don't begin at conception, and so Biden does not have to be conflicted about whether to act on his own convictions about polar bears or someone else's. On "Meet the Press," Tom Brokaw -- in a half-hearted way -- challenged Biden on the contradiction between his affirmation that life begins at conception and his pro-abortion voting record.

"But if you, you believe that life begins at conception," said Brokaw, "and you've also voted for abortion rights --"

"No, what I voted (was) against curtailing the right, criminalizing abortion. I voted against telling everyone else in the country that they have to accept my religiously based view that it's a moment of conception," said Biden. "But then again, I also don't support a lot of other things. I don't support public, public funding. I don't, because that flips the burden. That's then telling me I have to accept a different view."

But Biden has in fact voted to force taxpayers -- no matter what their religion -- to fund the deliberate killing of human embryos, who Biden acknowledges are human lives.

On July 18, 2006, and on April 11, 2007, he voted -- along with Republican presidential candidate John McCain -- for the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act. It ordered the Department of Health Human Services to "conduct and support research that utilizes human embryonic stem cells ... derived from human embryos that have been donated from in vitro fertilization clinics."

In other words, it said taxpayers who share Biden's understanding that life begins at conception must pay taxes to fund researchers who kill what Biden affirms are human beings. (The bill did not become law because President Bush vetoed it twice.)

The Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act had nothing to do with abortion. Biden needed to answer only two questions before voting on it: 1) should the government approve the deliberate killing of innocent human lives, and 2) should the government force taxpayers to pay for it.

Biden answered both questions: yes.

On July 25, 2006, Biden voted against the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act. It prohibited "knowingly transport(ing) a minor across a state line, with the intent that such minor obtain an abortion, and thereby in fact abridge() the right of a parent under a law requiring parental involvement in a minor's abortion decision, in force in the state where the minor resides."

In other words, Biden protected the ability of a stranger to sneak a teenager across state lines to have an abortionist kill her unborn child, even if the teenager and her parents, like Biden, affirm that life begins at conception and even if they belong to a religion that teaches abortion is murder.

When it came to these issues of life and death, Joe Biden would not have forced Americans to bow down to his convictions, he would have forced them to bow down to someone else's.

O"Biden
I still can't believe Hillary didn't eat this two Pansi blowhards for lunch.
Why can't liberals ever answer simple questions with simple answers? Oh yeah, their liberals.

McCain-Palin win in a landslide.

Eliminating Religion from Public Law
It seems the argument for supporting abortion eventually hinges on the 'separation of church and state' - that apparently invisible demand placed in our Constitution by those very clever Founding Fathers. It used to be explained by saying "You can't legislate morality."

So how much 'religion' and 'morality' shall we demand be removed from our public law? Theft? Gee that stems from "Thou Shalt Not Steal." Murder? "Thou Shalt Not Kill." What laws, in a society founded upon Judeo-Christian beliefs, are not morally or religiously based? The answer is obviously, "None."

It is the adherence to, not the elimination of, religious standards and mores, which give our society foundation. Without them we must devolve into anarchy.

My point is that Mr. Biden wishes not to base his decisions on his so-called religious faith... and if we apply that to all laws and decisions, he - and we - are in for some serious trouble.

Bin-Biden ?
Oblahmas' judgement in picking Bin-Biden as his running mates is more obvious with evry passing day. He has turned into a ball and chain drag on his campaign.
In the meantime, McCains pick is arguably nothing short of sheer genius.
We have Oblahma now histerically running against Gov. Palin and his MSM scurrying like cockroaches exposed to sudden light.
Oblahma Bin-Biden : inept, evil, corrupt and Marxist.

Senator from Delaware
Would you say that the senator from Delaware is, at the very least, inarticulate? And is that a requirement to running for office in that and many other states?

dc
Well said...of course all our laws stem from morality based on the laws of God. We should be saying that louder and louder.

This is why Biden didn't get 10% in Iowa
Even Iowa Democrats are smart enough to see past this fellow's mincing words.

He's either an evil man who lies about his faith or he's an incompetent party hack who doesn't understand what he's supporting.

Either way, not qualified to be "one heart-beat away from the Presidency"...

BTW, Nancy Pelosi, a grandmother with five kids is two heart-beats away from that job. I think she's more qualified than Obama or Biden... but I wish she'd get her story straight, too...

Catholics believe the Pope is 100% correct when speaking about church matters. Popes have always been against abortion. If Nancy doesn't believe, she should find another religion to follow... If she does believe, she might need to start voting a lot differently...

The Ten Commandments
are GOD'S law, not man's. What a mess this is - but you are correct, the left would go to the wall defending the "right" of the Polar Bear's baby to live - just like the baby seals. God is going to make them pay someday.

OBAMA the Acronym
Obnoxious
Buffoon
Always
Mismanaging
America

On Abortion
All Biden did was spin his own reasoning to make himself feel better about knowingly killing unborn babies. And I know a lot people who have the same or simualr things. I call them hypocrites.

Re: The True Brainwashing!!
Look, all Mr. Biden did was brainwash himself to believe he was voting for something that is so wrong in the evangelical culture that it is right up there with Satanic worship!! Look, both of these candidates, Mr. Biden and Mr. Obama are really stumbling all over themselves and it is really pathetic to think that Americans are REALLY considering putting these two clowns in the most powerful positions on earth!!!

Biden Bows to himself!!
Biden is a complete and udder Joke!! dc has it right our founders believe in the seperation between church and state, its time we got back to it.Now on biden being a Good Catholic, another Joke,he believes in same sex marriges and Abortion the Catholic church does not on both Counts, now we can believe in the Bible but there is Common sence law that has it where we don't have to like or agree with Abortion but in some cases it is needed and even if they repeal Roe v Wade would Abortion stop, would it be safer,no on both counts, so sometimes Common Sence is the only Logic.

Bible Thumpers and Prolifers
For all out there unaware that Palin is a hunter killing innocent animals just like babies. I am a pro-choice person and a Libertarian. I believe in allowing you to live your life as you see fit as long as you allow me to do the same. I’ll be good meeting my Maker. I do not believe in abortion personally, but do believe in the rights of every woman to control her personal life and she’ll meet her Maker too soon enough. If you are so serious about banning abortion you should have 4-5 adopted crack babies living with you but I know you don’t. You talk the talk but don’t walk the walk, I work in a homeless shelter which none of you have ever had the time to visit never mind volunteering for or you would really get to know the working poor. You should be ashamed of your mindless ineptitude but don’t worry Jesus and I forgive you. You’re also the ones blowing up clinics like terrorists not me. Does that make you feel closer to God?

Biden Conflict of Interest
Joe Biden deserves scrutiny regarding numerous conflict of interest issues.

A few years back, MBNA - the credit card giant -not only was Biden's biggest contributor, but also employed the services of his lobbyist son, Hunter, with a very lucrative contract. Biden was one of few Democrats that voted for the new bankruptcy legislation that favors credit card companies.

Now Hunter Biden is contacted by one of the largest law firms representing victims of asbestos suits. This firm is now Biden's biggest contributor and he is fighting to remove any ceilings on asbestos lawsuits.

Barack Obama also sponsored $3.4 million in earmarks for Hunter Biden's clients.

Two-faced Thomas:
You claim to believe in God, but your stated beliefs fly in the face of that God.
To say you believe in God but also say, in effect, that it is perfectly all right for a woman to kill her unborn child as a form of contraception is the height of hypocrisy.
And your screed about adopting crack babies is just outright asinine.
Don't you have even the tiniest bit of logic in that befuddled brain of yours?

joe biden
everyone everywhere , regardless of
race, sex, ethnic origin , religious belief,
party affiliation , or whatever should recognize by now that biden is a " poor
excuse for a human being " .

Dear Thomas in IL

That was a fine tirade!

So you're a "choice" defender? OK.

Explain why you said: "You’re the ones blowing up clinics like terrorists, not me."

Two short questions, Thomas"

Why do you call abortion mills "clinics"--???

And, since you have this "choice" of snuffing out millions of innocent lives; why can't I have the choice of blowing up the murderers' clinics?

(Actually slaughterhouses; clinics treat illnesses.) I should have the choice, because the Constitution says I do.

"Does that make you feel closer to God?" I certainly DO. But feelings aren't morality.

Biden
has become the single handed most insignificant person in this campaign. I wonder how he's feeling! Ooh...poor thing!

Biden is as befuddled as Pelosi
They must be thinking with one brain as both profess to be unable to protect the unborn by voting against abortions; yet they turn around and vote for legislation that allows the death of those same babies. Huh???

Biden’s Partial Birth Ban Flippery
Senator Biden can’t even make up his own mind about whether Partial Birth Abortion should have been banned. Of course he claims that he was the only Democrat to “vote” for the ban. This isn’t exactly true.

On March 13, 2003, at 09:45 AM, The Senate voted on PASSAGE of Bill S. 3. The ban passed by a vote of 64 to 33.

Senators Biden, Kerry, and Kennedy did not cast votes.

Why did Senator Biden not cast his vote one way or the other? He needs to explain his strange silence.

October 21, 2003, the Senate voted 64 to 34 to pass the Conference Report. Senator Biden voted yea on the Conference Report. This is the vote he refers to when he claims he voted to pass the ban. This is at the very least, a disingenuous statement, which is par for the course for Senator Biden.

Then, in April of 2007, when the Supreme Court upheld the ban, Senator Biden was highly critical of their decision. He said their decision,

"contains troubling reasoning that could lay a powerful foundation to dismantle basic legal precedent. . . The Supreme Court's rationale reflects a decided turn to the right under the new leadership of the Chief Justice Roberts and Justice Alito, both of whom I objected to during their nominations,"

All the court did was uphold the ban that Senator Biden claims he voted for.

Senator Biden, this isn’t all that difficult. You are either for it or against it. Stop lying about your original vote, which was no vote at all.

Trying to figure out what you really think about this issue is pretty much impossible.

Maggie reply #9
You are absolutely right. I don't know how Joe Biden can even profess publicly to be a Catholic. Like it or not, the "life begins at conception" tenet is one that has been dearly held by the Catholic faith forever and a day. And "like it or not" IS a big part of living up to one's faith.

Catholic and Joe Biden are contrary terms and all this idiot is doing is indeed spinning his personal beliefs so that he can live with himself. You are so correct.

Speaking of idiotic behavior, Thomas posting here as about his fantastic libertarian attitude demonstrates about as much true Christian belief as a junkyard dog. The Bible says, essentially, pray in a closet. That means, Thomas, you don't go around saying "I volunteer I volunteer I volunteer and you horrible people don't." You show how little you know about true Christianity and about real freedom with your rants. And clearly, you know nothing about people here.

Glad YOU feel comfortable meeting your maker. Most real Christians don't. We all know that we all fall short. We all come up short on virtues and evidence of virtuous living, and we START from that premise and believe that Jesus already paid the price for us and our behavior. And it's a good thing, too.

I don't care where you volunteer or what you do. Your mouth belies your claims. I hope you still feel comfortable when God asks you why you felt killing innocent babies who did nothing at all of their own accord was okay, all in the name of "choice" for women. The aborted babies didn't have any choice at all. YOU go defend that position to God, Thomas. Good luck.

October 2 Debate
Mark your calendar. I cannot wait to see this contrast between Joe Biden, baptized a Catholic, and Sarah Heath Palin, also, I'm told, baptized a Catholic.

In the latter case, apparently, the sacrament "took."

Actually, it "took" in both cases.

But in Sarah's case, well, we will "judge them by their fruits," i.e., by their glory and beauty in the standard of Christ.

Re: Navy-baby
Do you really think Biden and Pelosi have a whole brain between them? I don't know if that's true maybe a ganglia or two but a whole brain stretches credulity.

Integrity versus opportunism
Regardless of one's personal views on abortion, the current political issue is integrity versus craven opportunism. Biden is an opportunist.

I READ THE TITLE WRONG
At a first glance, I thought the title to this piece was "To Whom Joe Biden Blows."

Never mind to whom, Biden just blows!
