Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Suddenly, the liberal establishment is earnestly interested in traditional family life, and there is a good -- if cynical -- reason for this.

When Michelle Obama, a Harvard Law grad, appeared at the Democratic convention last week, she did not come a la Hillary Clinton, who bragged when her husband first ran for president that if you elected him you would also get her -- "a two-for-one, blue plate special."

Mrs. Obama did not pitch a co-presidency, but the image of a traditional family.

In her carefully crafted text, she said "Iraq" twice, "health care" four times and "family" or "families" nine times.

The Democrats made a calculated decision: Present Michelle Obama as a sister, daughter, wife and mother.

"I come here as a wife who loves my husband and believes he will be an extraordinary president," she said. "I come here as a mom whose girls are the heart of my heart and the center of my world. They're the first thing I think about when I wake up in the morning and the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night."

Sen. Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential candidate, struck a similar familial theme.

"My parents taught us to live our faith and treasure our family," Biden told the convention.

When Republican candidate John McCain, in the afterglow of the Democratic family fest, picked Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate, we instantly learned she was the ultimate working mom: five kids, just one husband, youngest child a 5-month-old with Down syndrome born in the second year of her gubernatorial term.

Left-wing blogs soon slimed her with a vile lie. To knock it down, the Palins revealed that their 17-year-old was pregnant and intended to marry the father of her unborn child.

Some in the liberal media took this as a perverse opportunity to expound on their newfound dedication to family life. They saw the Palins as a bad example.

ABC's "Good Morning America" ran a segment Monday titled, "Family Secrets: America Reacts to Palin Family Pregnancy." It consisted of a focus group of women -- none from any part of America west or south of the Delaware River -- answering questions from Kate Snow.

Snow hit them with this zinger: "This is a bit of a flashpoint question: But does it (their daughter's pregnancy) say anything about the Palins' parenting; that, or the fact that she is away from the house so much?"

Did ABC News expect Palin to stay home and bake cookies? Why would a 21st century American television network promote as a topic for national debate the proposition that any woman might have been out of the house too much?

The answer: The like-minded liberals running the TV networks and the Obama campaign read the same polls. They show that married people could very well swing the election to McCain.

The Gallup tracking poll for the week that ended Aug. 24 -- just before the Democratic convention -- showed McCain trouncing Obama among married people, 53 percent to 38 percent. That was up from the week ending June 15, when McCain was defeating Obama among married people, 49 percent to 40 percent.

We are often told of the "gender gap" in national elections. Female voters, we are frequently reminded, tend to vote Democratic. Yet, this is not entirely true.

The Gallup poll completed Aug. 24 did show Obama ahead of McCain among all women voters, 47 percent to 41 percent. But among married women voters there was an even bigger "gap" -- and it cut the other way. McCain enjoyed a 10-point lead, 49 percent to 39 percent.

Married people gave George Bush a second term in 2004. According to the network exit poll, Bush beat Sen. John Kerry, the Democratic candidate, 57 percent to 42 percent among married voters, and 59 percent to 40 percent among married voters who had children -- call it the "parent gap."

Married voters tend to vote for Republicans over Democrats because married people tend to be more conservative, both culturally and economically, than unmarried people. A 2003 Gallup analysis, for example, showed that abortion was deemed morally acceptable among 36 percent of married people, 38 percent of divorced people, 51 percent of never married people and 52 percent of people living together.

The Democratic polling firm of Greenberg Quinlan Rosner reported this April that "unmarried women are 19 points more likely to describe housing assistance as very important to their lives, 12 points more likely to describe child care assistance as very important to their lives and 10 points more likely to describe raising the minimum wage as very important."

Palin's daughter is keeping a baby and getting married. She appears to come from the America that the Democrats tried to fool last week, not the one they would like to govern.

Michelle's Plate of Cookies
Yes, I almost expected Michelle to reach under the podium and bring out a plate of cookies for the media to check out. But, one must also remember that as a mother, she chose to take her young impressionable children to Rev Wright's church to listen to his words of hate for white people and our country. I wonder what her girls thought when they heard him rant & rave about people who looks like their grandmother?

Liberals really don't believe...
...what they say they believe. When actually confronted with their so-called beliefs (feminism, gun-control, catch and release legal system) they suddenly find that they are appalled by the reality. Some run for a latte, some grab a gun and some hide under a rock. Hoepfully, the majority will hide under a rock this go-round.

Trig's DNA Testing
We still need to scientifically resolve the issue of Trig's parents. How about DNA testing, Straight Talkers?

Are they the same people?
Are the people bawling about Sarah Palins *poor parenting* because her 17 year old would never have become pregnant if Mommy had been more hands on, the same people who regularly show up here to shriek that a 14 year old girl is Mature Enough to decide to have an abortion and DEMAND that Mommy not only keep hands off but not even be told?

How can it be that a [Republican] 17 year old is a Child when she chooses to get pregnant, but a Mature Adult when she chooses to get drunk?

Do you guys even read the signs your masters hand you and tell you to wave?

Iowa Patsy
I don't recall anyone asking for Chelsea Clinton's DNA.

libs
Libs and traditional family values reminds me of that old joke about Religion, Airplanes, and Earthquakes.

Some replies
For AudiR10 @ 07:50: since most groats have rodentlike minds, they cannot see the contradiction.

For MBE @ 09:40: IMO, Iowa RoadApple's dad actually did his misdeeds with gophers or rats rather than sheep--RoadApple being the evidence thereof.

Oh IowaPatN: You ARE an idiot
Has it occurred to you, genius, that it would be impossible for Bristol Palin to have given birth to Trig, who was born four months ago, since Bristol is now five months pregnant?

Go back under your rock and stay there. You are bringing down the level of the gene pool.

Depends
Demo/lib/marxists are soiling their underpants at the thought of a *conservative* woman stealing their thunder.

Governor Palin is everything they are not.

She is in favor of giving live birth rather than abortion.

She knows how to shoot and likes it.

She is a supporter of the military.

She is someone who loves her country and means it when she says "God bless America", and would never countenance someone who says instead "God d*amn America."

She is authentic and has common sense.

She is fearless in the face of criticism.

And so on.

So, a message for demo/lib/marxists: stock up on Depends!

Single Dad for Palin
The more I read from the MSM and hear from the left, the more angry I get. Here is their premise:

If you are a woman you can't have kids and a career. Or the other one if you are a parent, you can't have dreams if your kids aren't perfect because your a bad person.

How very progressive of them.

I'm a single dad of 8 (6 six still at home) and just hearing everyone say that she can't be a mom and still be VP is a huge slap in my face. Why? Because I have big dreams and I don't plan on anyone telling me that because my 2 teenagers are acting like idiots that I have to give up my dreams or the fact that I'm raising two special needs kids that if I don't sacrifice myself completely then I'm a bad father. Trust me I've faced a ton of judgement for having the audacity as a white male to actually live Dr. Kings dream and adopt 4 hispanic kids and 2 special needs black boys and still have 2 biological kids of my own.

Please Sara Palin, set an example to all of the girls of this nation, and even the single moms and dads trying to still dream big, that you can still shoot for the stars even if you happen to be a parent or ghast a woman.

I'll take four more years of Bush/McCain over four years of Pelosi/Obama anyday and twice on Sunday.

Learn Your Tolerance Any Way You Can

I'm pleased that so many members of the Republican party have learned to embrace and encourage a hard-working woman and her family, and not to disparage her parenting, her morals, and especially her "judgement" when her family goes through such travails as the Palin's are experiencing now.

You know, while it may be at least eight years tardy, it's still not too late to learn from the example of the *previous* VP's daughter, and be more tolerant and accepting of gay and lesbian people...

The Diddlin Democrats !!!
Boy is this issue living proof of the hypocracy and lack of validity in the Democratic Party and their agenda. In their opinions it is perfectly okay and moral for a sitting Democratic president to repeatedly committ adultery (even in the Oval Office) but heavean forbid that the 17 year old daughter of Gov. Palin get herself pregnant. Would these same highly offended MSM liberals, and Demo's criticize the young Ms Palin if she availed herself of an abortion unbeknown to her parents ???
As for a working Mom who is VP not being home raising her family ??? How about all of the political Dads who are very seldom ever home to aid in the rearing of their children.
As far as I know Rose Kennedy was a stay at home mother while father Joe was out runnung around peddeling Bootleg Whiskey, as well as tip toeing through the tulips with who knows how many girls and look at how her little boy Teddy turned out.So the Stay At Home Mom argument by the liberal MSM and Democrats doesn't hold water.
Also in closing I might mention that the Tabloids are now reporting true or not that Ted Kennedy has given a Near Death Bed confession that he was having an intimate affair with his sister in law Jackie Kennedy. I wonder if the MSM is checking that story out ???
The Democrats had better stay away from the DNA testing suggestion for Gov. Palins youngest child as it could be Pandora's Box for them.

It happens in all families
Girls getting pregnant before marriage happens in all families, even the best. Check out some of who are pregnant early. At least Bristol and her boyfriend are getting married and plan to raise their baby together. Too many now don't plan on that at all. Or, as pointed out, they get abortions rather than keep the baby.

The farce (notice there is only one letter different between farce and force) the MSM and the Dims are making about this really makes me wonder about where their priorities are. One moment they say that a woman can have career and family; the next they say they can't. They say it is okay for a girl to have sex and get pregnant at a young age but then they say she shouldn't get married. It makes you wonder about them.

Iowa PatN
Down's Syndrome happens when mothers are over the age of 30.

Iowa PatN
You said "We still need to scientifically resolve the issue of Trig's parents. How about DNA testing, Straight Talkers?"

Who is this "we" of whom you speak? Why do "we" need to "resolve the issue"? How is any of this any of your business? Are you some sort of stalker with a "need" to know this information? Or are you just another teenager, using mommie's computer, and this is just some form of mental m*sterbation for you?

Do you know who *your* daddy is? Scientifically

Sheesh...

On to something - demographics
Here it is again. Another reason the media is freaking out over a family woman in a VP slot.
We'll be hearing about the latest item VP Palin has added to her list of accomplishments while caring for the family and her country. Talk about multi tasking!!! She's doing it already. Oh, the other problem is more immediate for the Dem campaign as they won't get much sympathy for the Biden daily Amtrak ride as it compares to Governor Palin's family life.

Home School
Actually Downs can happen to at any age, but the risk becomes greater as the mother gets older which is why insurance companies start to pay for the screening at 35 because the risk of having Downs (or other issues like Downs) is now greater than the chances of a miscarriage caused by the test. Some now are wanting all women tested for Downs no matter their ages which causes some anti-abortion and Downs supporters to cringe. Most people born with Downs are to mothers under 35 because they aren't tested and a good majority of women over 35 do test and if they have are carrying a fetus with Downs, most usually opt to abort. If there was testing at aby age there would be less Down births, but more Downs fetuses aborted.

George Will who has a Downs child wrote about this a number of months ago.

Oh and Iowa
Since the number of Downs children that are born to 17 year olds is quite low and rather high to 44 year olds, I can bet the child doesn't belong to the 17 year old.

Speaking of Rose Kennedy
wasn't there a handicapped daughter born to her and Joe that was later forced to undergo a lobotomy?

Is that FEAR of DEFEAT, I hear ? ?
I can't imagine what Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are going through right now with all the attention being exploited by the media and Obama supporters in order to smear Governor Palin. There have been many political leaders (including past presidents) whose children have made mistakes -- to say nothing about the "skeletons" in many of their own "personal" closets. Those who spend their lives judging others deserve to be harshly judged for their own moral failures. The fact that Bristol is not HIDING and Levi will join the Palin family at the GOP Convention speaks volumes for the character of these young people. And of course, the Obama supporters leave out the fact that Bistol Palin and Levi Johnston had planned to marry as soon as they graduated -- BEFORE it was known Bristol was pregnant.

I assume we are all human beings and therefore, we have all made mistakes in our lives. At least, I know I have, as have my children, my parents, my brothers and sisters . . . and on and on and on! If we are looking for a candidate with a perfect record (much less a PERFECT family) we'll have a long, long wait.

Levi and Bristol
There was a photo of the two. Levi looks like a class act as does Bristol--rapper do rag with his baseball cap sideways and she flashing gang signs. But who cares? Levi and her aren't going to be the VP, their mother (and future mother-in-law I guess) is.

Now if Mom goes out and starts flashing gang signs, then that is an issue.

Nana
According to the msm and the Democratic party only they can make mistakes and get a pass.

The MSM thinks
Americans won't notice the hypocracy of their grilling of Sarah Palin? The truth is that if she had a "D" representing her party, this would be a non issue, and they would attack anyone who brought it up. If Americans thought about it, they would be disgusted with how dumb the MSM thinks them to be. The MSM is headed the way of the newspaper. If their audience cannot get accurate info from these sources, they'll find it elsewhere.

Akagi
Better to give Iowa 12 year old a Math lesson!!!

5 Months along in a pregnancy & a four month old baby...kinda like "if two trains leave their stations going in opposite directions..."

Or because Iowa sounds like a 12 yr old mind with too much time (look out at 17 hahahahah) to do nothing maybe a BIOLOGY lesson is MORE in line!
