Distractions for Obama in Berlin

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

The Germans were ecstatic when Barack Obama landed in Berlin. They called him the "American Idol," a political superstar they expected to walk on the River Spree. He didn't walk on water, but he didn't disappoint. He promised to remake the world where everybody would love everybody.

"There is a sort of 'Obamamania' in Germany right now," says an aide in German Chancellor Angela Merkel's office, "but I think a lot of people will have their illusions shattered if he does become president."

He's a novelty who causes skeptics to suggest he paraphrase JFK's famous boast at the Berlin Wall: "Ich bin ein beginner." He draws admiration as much for not being George W. as for being the first black presumptive nominee for president.

Europeans, like many Americans, are besotted by sentiment, basing their judgment on what they feel, not what they know. He sounds like he's running for president of the world. The candidate strings words together with enormous flair, but his speeches sound better than they read. The words dazzle, but lack precision. The cadences make music, but music marred by occasional false notes. He complains that his audiences lack focus and are easily distracted, but the real trick is in his rhetoric.

In prescribing more troops for the war in Afghanistan, he calls Iraq a "dangerous distraction." Iraq is dangerous but not a distraction. Iraq, in fact, is a less dangerous place than it was before the surge, which John McCain supported and Obama did not. (When he had the chance, he voted against sending more troops to Afghanistan, too.)

When his campaign suggested that he might speak at the Brandenburg Gate, and he switched to the nearby Victory Column, he said he didn't want the setting to be a distraction. But an appearance at the Brandenburg Gate wouldn't distract so much as reflect his chutzpah. He forced Merkel into the schoolmarm mode, to raise an eyebrow at the choice the chancellor called "odd" for a candidate who was not yet wearing a president's breeches.

William Safire, the New York Times word maven, examined the language he calls "Obamese" and observes that the candidate's use of the word "distraction" smacks of being "defensive," as if criticism is a "diversion of attention" rather than an attempt to gain insight into the man and his message.

Obama's rhetoric is refreshing after George W. Bush's tangled syntax and mangled sentences. His word comfort contrasts favorably with John McCain's bluntness in the awkward cadences of an old soldier. But speeches are not spontaneous, they're carefully crafted and can hide a multitude of sins. The poet John Milton, the most educated man of his time, intentionally wrote dull speeches unenlivened with simile and metaphor when delivered by the character of God in "Paradise Lost." He gave Satan the florid eloquence to persuade and beguile, expecting his readers to understand that he was showing how words can deceive.

When Hillary Clinton realized she was losing to Obama, she scoffed at his rhetoric. "There's a big difference between us," she said, "speeches versus solution, talk versus action. ... Words are cheap." But words can be expensive, too, depending on their weight and meaning. Words can be golden or merely gold-plated, and there's the rub.

If you should wear Obama words as a necklace, you should expect your neck to turn green. It's the tarnish now beginning to dull the glitter that's driving the cult crazy. The European cultists may soon be disillusioned with a "wiggle-room" candidate who "nuances" his positions on troop withdrawals from Iraq and changes "no preconditions" to "preparations" for meeting with Iran. The golden-tongued seducer may turn out to be an alchemist playing tricks with base metal.

When William Jennings Bryan, at 36 the youngest man to be nominated for president, delivered his "Cross of Gold" speech at the Democratic National Convention at the old Chicago Coliseum in 1896, the Democrats thought their "Boy Orator of the Platte" was irresistible, unstoppable and inevitable. So did the Republicans. The crowds were frenzied and passionate. He was the candidate of change, "the man we have been waiting for." William McKinley, the experienced war hero, had a quieter campaign style, and invited voters to his home in Canton, Ohio, to listen to him speak from the front porch.

When a man sent Bryan a rabbit's foot for good luck, soon others did, too, and thousands of rabbits lost their feet. "If all the people who have given me rabbits' feet in the campaign will vote for me, " the candidate said, "there is no possible doubt of my election." In the end, there weren't enough rabbits.

The German movie director Wim Wenders used the polished red marble of the Victory monument as a setting for his "Wings of Desire," about an angel who is reduced to mere mortal. Barack Obama might retire to a friendly front porch to reflect on whether there might be a lesson here.

Blundering his way around the world
Obama's lack of understanding of history is apalling. He tried to use the Berlin Airlift as a prop in his speech, but he clearly does not understand its purpose. It was about enduring hardships and paying any price to defend freedom against the tyrannical Communists.

In stark contrast, Obama and the Democrats get weak in the knees whenever the fight gets tough. They say it's just not worth the blood and treasure (for Obama, it was never worth any blood or treasure). That's exactly opposite the message we were sending with the Airlift.

JFK's 1961 Inaugural Address:
"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

Pay ANY price. Bear ANY burden. It's hard to believe a Democrat said that. But that was a different era. Now the Democrats kick out members who believe such things, as they did to Joe Lieberman.

Obama flopped.
America largely unimpressed by the rock tour. Even the Germans were. Only one direction ahead: down. The one-trick pony shot his wad!

The Pied Piper Torch Passes
In Berlin, Obama tried to channel Kennedy and Ronald Reagan. Both of them, however, had earned their stripes, Kennedy in World War II and Reagan as the feisty governor of California.

Barack, we knew Jack Kennedy and Ronald Reagan and you ain't Kennedy or Reagan.

Better analogy: the new American Pied Piper. Sorry, Al, it's over. Pick up your check at the door.

You wrote: "In Berlin, Obama tried to channel Kennedy and Ronald Reagan."

Indeed he did.

But for all of Obama's talk, talk, talk, to the German's about "walls", never once did he attribute Reagan with his most daring and memorable statement to Gorbachav about a real wall in Berlin. Reagan's command "Mr. Gorbachav, tear down this wall" wasn't a suggestion. It was spoken by a real commander-in-chief.

Obama commandeer's the word "walls" to appear more presidential. He is a usurper and a wannabee.

CORRECT THAT STATEMENT, PLEASE

Suzanne, Suzanne, Suzanne, do some fact checking before you repeat the false story, “ … … he paraphrase JFK's famous boast at the Berlin Wall: "Ich bin ein beginner."

NO WAY, JFK DID NOT GIVE HIS SPEECH AT THE GATE.

Just as an example of how the press gorifies ObamBam. John F Kennedy never made a speech at the Brandenburg gate, never. He visited there, but he did not speak there.

But have you seen or heard anyone in the media ever correct that statement, and you repeat it as if it were fact.

We have visited Berlin multiple times, and spent time visiting the then West Berlin City Hall. Rathaus Schöneberg was the seat of the West Berlin city government during the Cold War and is the location where John F. Kennedy made his famous Ich bin ein Berliner speech.

As a matter of fact, the Germans renamed the Plaza where he spoke, “John F. Kennedy Plaza.”

Don't miss this one!!
Great satire from the U.K.

An excerpt:

"The Child was blessed in looks and intellect. Scion of a simple family, offspring of a miraculous union, grandson of a typical white person and an African peasant. And yea, as he grew, the Child walked in the path of righteousness, with only the occasional detour into the odd weed and a little blow."

b hussein speaks
it matters not what he says at any given speech, his bootlickers in the media will ascribe the words as coming from on high to be hammered in stone to inspire coming generations.

However upon reading his words they lack substance and while some may feel inspired most find the pablum issuing from his mouth is totally forgettable.

The idea that the leftists in europe are enchanted sends a clear message they are in total disconnect with reality concerning america and how we decide who will be president.

Even here those having obamagasms feel good about their messiah they just have no clue what he stands for.

Yet the more b hussein opens his mouth the more questions will be raised. We arfe in a political hiatus right now with only the diehards paying much attention to either campaign. Once the conventions occur things will really begin to heat up.

The hussein campaign will find the bloom is off the rose. His soaring rhetoric lacking substance will trip him up. He claims compassion for the un and those lost souls in africa and elsewhere but talks as though struggling american's already enjoy too much and additional scrimping shouldn't bother them

For Ace (#6)
0blahma may have been trying to channel Reagan and Kennedy. But whom he actually channels everywhere are Pierre Trudeau (erstwhile traitorous PM of Canada, dead since 2000) and Brian Mulroney (erstwhile traitorous PM of Canada, other party than Trudeau and still living).

Distractions for Obama
The more criticism Obama dismisses as “a distraction,” the more I think of the Wizard of Oz – “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain! The Great and Powerful Oz has spoken!”

The Wizard of UHHHS
After listening to recordings of the Lord Messiah Oblama's speeches, I think it is more appropriate to referr to him as the Wizard of Uhhs.

Laura

Distractions for Obama..................
Any request you make of him to define his position is a distraction to what he said, which was and is nothing.
Ask him to clarify his remark, you once more distract from what he said.
If you correct him on a ovious gaffe, no no you distract from his original statement and distract what he said to the people.
Lawyerees, say nothing mean everything.

obama in Berlin
Both Kennedy and Reagan went to Berlin as statesmen to lend the strength of their position to the German people in their quest for freedom and unification. obama went to borrow the German people as back drops to make himself appear a statesman.

I can save everyone a lot of time...
McCain will win the election.

The MSM and the left will pitch an unholy fit including civil disturbances, accusations of racism, etc.

The drumbeat of the media inciting hatred towards John McCain will make what they did to George W. Bush look like a junior high prom.

rock stars
no one in the media has reported that 2 rock bands that are very popular in deutschland gave a free concert before barry obama arrived. this probably attracted many more than would have arrived for the dud speaker. and probably the germans have 2 vacation schedules. 50% go on vacation for a month. and then the other 50% go on vacation for a month. there were probably alot of people off from work.

Obama may have dazzled the Germans, but the fact remains that I have more power in seeing who gets elected in November than all 200,000 that were in the audience.

Thanks for continuing to post this link. It's an amazing piece of work that everyone should read.

I just wish Baker had also mentioned all the nefarious characters who were Obama's close friends during his Chicago years. We still know very little about that time in his life.

I also wonder why this is never mentioned as the reason 200,000 Germans showed up. Some were certainly there out of curiosity about this glorified politician who seemed to walk on water, but most must have come for the free concert as well as the sausages. One source I heard say there was "free beer and brats."

Of course, some Germans will flock to hear one who seems to like them more than his fellow Americans (those bitter, gun-toting, Bible-clingers). They knew he wouldn't be praising America and talking about its greatness - That's not in his repertoire as written by David Axelrod. Must have been the music and food.

With all due respect, before calling anyone an "ignoranus", I suggest you brush up on your spelling.

Also, you might want to change "recieve" to
"receive". When I'm in doubt about the meaning or spelling of a word, I use The Free Dictionary.
