Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I retrieve and open a large envelope from today's pile of mail.

Inside is a press release announcing "Chick-fil-A Founder to Receive 2008 William E. Simon Prize for Philanthropic Leadership."

I discover that Chick-fil-A founder is 87-year-old Atlanta businessman S. Truett Cathy. Reading about Cathy, amidst today's headlines, I am wondering if his story is what America is about, or was about.

Cathy built, and today is owner/operator, of the privately held Chick-fil-A fast food chain, with more than 1400 locations and sales of over $2.6 billion dollars. He's from humble roots in rural Georgia and opened the first Chick-fil-A store in Atlanta in 1967.

In contrast to stereotypes equating business, particularly big business, to greed, Cathy's life and work has been defined by service and Christian charity. The corporate mission statement of Chick-fil-A is "To glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us. To have a positive influence on all who come in contact with Chick-fil-A."

Chick-fil-A stores are closed on Sunday to allow employees to devote the day to faith and family.

Cathy established a scholarship fund in 1973 for Chick-fil-A employees and to date around 23,000 have received more than $24 million in scholarship funds. In 1984 he established the WinShape Foundation which last year alone spent $18 million supporting a network of foster homes, camps, scholarships, and marriage counseling programs.

The Simon Prize, which Cathy has just received, is awarded by the William E. Simon Foundation, established by Simon, who was the 63rd Treasury Secretary of the United States.

Like Cathy, Simon believed in America, in freedom and free enterprise, and was a man of faith. The giving themes of his foundation, as noted on the foundation's website, are in the areas of "education, faith, and family."

Unlike Cathy, Simon built his wealth in the area which is now quintessentially associated with greed -- finance. Before becoming Treasury Secretary in 1974, he was a Wall Street bond trader at Salomon Brothers. After, he set up firms dealing in mergers and acquisitions, financial services, and banking.

As Wall Street executives are dragged to hearings, to be mocked, blamed, and threatened by Democratic Banking Chairman Chris Dodd, it's worth quoting Simon, who passed away in 2000, as his creed appears on his foundation's website:

"The free enterprise system has blessed the United States of America with the greatest prosperity, the highest standards of living, and, most important, the greatest individual freedom known to man. If we can preserve this system, and our freedom, we can look forward to turning over to our children, and our children's children, an America that is more productive, prosperous, and stronger economically, financially, morally, and spiritually, than the one we inherited."

How, from this, did we become a nation of blame, bailouts, and entitlement?

Wal-Mart has just released its quarterly report showing sales and earnings up 7.5 percent and 9.8 percent respectively. Wal-Mart, founded and built by one of America's great entrepreneurs, has been under endless attack from the political left. Now, in tough times, Americans are happy to have a source of low priced, high quality merchandise.

Average nationwide retail gasoline prices this week are $1.95 less a gallon compared to July -- a drop of almost 50 percent. In a Gallup poll done last year, most Americans attributed high gasoline prices to oil company greed. Are they going down now because oil companies are becoming generous?

No doubt, these are hard times.

Here's my prediction. The more Americans believe that our future depends on politicians, political fixes, and bailouts, the bleaker our future will be.

If we see America as a country defined by men like S. Truett Cathy, Bill Simon, and Sam Walton, we'll re-establish firm footing on American principles and re-build our country, our prosperity, and our leadership.

Great column, Star!

Amen
God bless men and women who put honest regard for other ahead of themselves. The current powerbrokers and on-coming far left leadership surely don't. God, while you are blessing us with Cathy, Simon and Sam, please protect us from Barry,Biden and Hillary.

Chick Fil A
When I was a teen I worked for Chick Fil A and it was an amazing blessing. I still have the Spirit-Filled Student Bible (some 20 years later!) I was given as a Christmas gift from a fellow teen co-worker for the store's gift exchange! They treat their employees with respect and kindness and I learned a lot about good work ethics, integrity, and service while an employee. I can safely say that is one job I look back upon with fondness.

Good News for a change!!!
It is great to know a good guy can still win here in America.

Great article
This article shows there are great businesses out there. Unfortunately, the Democrats love to bash big business. They find one bad apple and paint all with a broad brush as bad because it fits their socialist agenda to destroy success.

Who will define America?
For the moment I can only think that the Republican party "WILL NOT" define America.
It's clear that the Republicans no longer represent "CONSERTIVES".

A Great American
Thank you for honoring this great Amercian. How did we loose this mind-set? I trust the next generation will emulate this man. God Bless America!

"...Wal-Mart, founded and built by one of America's great entrepreneurs, has been under endless attack from the political left. Now, in tough times, Americans are happy to have a source of low priced, high quality merchandise..."

Walmart has adapted and changed or it would have perished. It is now becoming green, factory and grower friendly etc. Sam Walton created more millionaires than almost any other company but then it lost its way as Sam and family faded away. Walmart developed a business plan that foised healthcare and poverty costs on the rest of us. Now it appears to be adjusting to more in line with what Sam wanted again.

No one questions capitalism. Everyone should question unregulated, non competitive oligopolies posing as capitalism. Your failed conservatism didn't bring us Christianity but a nasty varient and your "business model" brought us poverty, war and debt. Change or die - I don't care which ; it is your choice but please stop posing as if the religious right is moral or religious - it is neither.

My prayer ...
is that we have not lost the vision exemplified by men like Cathy and Simon. I have long admired what Cathy has stood for, and I have been fortunate as a small business owner to have met other amazing supporters of the free enterprise system in America who have helped shape my own vision. God help us if we let that vision become blurred by the corporate-welfare illuminati mentality.

Yeah
But Obama wants to raise his taxes. After all, why shouldn't the government get more of Chick-fil-A's money? How dare Cathy use his money to help others without giving a larger amount to Obama!

More about Chick-fil-A...
Often those scholarships awarded to its employees result in those teen employees getting a franchise of their own after completing college. Chick-fil-A has a great track record of supporting and training those minimum-wage kids, giving them scholarships, then helping them become successful businessmen and women on their own. The company also rewards ingenuity. The owner of one the CFA restaurants in my former hometown (and a member of my church) asked for permission to try making milkshakes. The company ok'd it, and soon, people from miles around were coming to his store to get milkshakes. A few years later, the his milkshake process was adopted company-wide, as as I understand it, he was handsomely rewarded for his entrepreneurship. Chick-fil-A, in addition to having the best fast food and most creaitve commercials, is also one of the best companies to work for. It truly embodies the American dream. I just hope we haven't seen the last of men like Truett Cathy.

Lets all say and extra prayer for Hal
Brother you need it

Socialist Hal...
"Walmart developed a business plan that foised healthcare and poverty costs on the rest of us"...can you elaborate on this comment, please?
Walmart is a retailer. Walmart opens stores and hires people to work there.
They don't owe anyone anything. The people who work there can find other jobs with better benefits. What am I missing?

I notice hal doesn't
address the fact that gov't interfering in the way loans were traditionally granted is what brought us the mortgage meltdown.
It was gov't that created even more poverty with the "war on poverty" and the "great society". A trillion a year albatross around our necks for no other reason than to buy votes.

If the schools were so bad, why 40 years after the feds took them over are the kids dumber than they used to be and the drop-out rates higher?

We graduated smarter kids from 1 room school houses than we do now and sure didn't spend 10 grand per pupil to do it.

Of course back then we had teachers that cared more for the kids and preparing them for life than indoctrinating them with stupid liberal ideas.

Liberals all want to be protected from the ills of the world by a nanny state and get angry when there are others who sally forth into the unknown to actually create something.
Those people must be vilified, taxed to death as an example to others lest they proliferate.

The guy who set forth across the wilderness to set up a business braved the elements, wild animals and Indians did so with his family and a wife with a rifle across her lap.
They would have shot the clown who came along later telling them they needed 2 outhouses and one needed a handicap ramp or the lawyer suing them for the coffee being too hot..they were not liberals, they were Americans.

The Sons of Liberty would be ashamed of us, the framers pledged "their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor" to found this republic and we gave it away Nov 4th.

Hal makes a good point (unwittingly?)
Any institutions (capitalism, governments, families) which are not grounded in and governed by a sound moral code are fatally flawed. The best moral code is pure and simple Christianity (love and serve God and your neighbor). So concluded Jefferson: "The philosophy of Jesus is the most sublime and benevolent code of morals ever offered to man." Washington warned us that religion and morality are essential pillars of our society. Politicians, businessmen, fathers and mothers who abandon these essential pillars have no one to blame but themselves for the inevitable harvest of failure.

Congrat's to Chick
I remember growing up in a small town in the late 40's. Stores were not open on Sunday and a lot of them were only open a half day on Saturday. It is nothing but greed today and my hat is off to those businesses that are closed on Sunday. Probably a number one contributing factor as to why our families have fallen from their faith and break up of families.

Watch Out
Hope the libs don't find out about what Chick-Fil-A as a company really believes.

That's ok, I think they can probably handle the attacks.

Certainly, inaddition to hiring illegals and locking them in, they also refused to pay for breaks, by every indication they appeared to keep wages very low so and then encouraged employees to file for medicaid and welfare subsidies. I REPEAT they appear to have changed or are changing these nasty habits. I should not have to pay their employees healthcare so that you can get cheap socks. Sam was an honorable man he would never have approved

I won't argue this point but I will very much point out that the religious right is NOT pure and simple Christianity but a nasty form of christianity that would kill Jesus again if he showed up

Chick Fil A
My first experience with Chick Fil A was in Memphis Tenn. The food was good, but what struck me was the fact that they were closed on Sundays. I reflected back to the Sundays of my youth. Mass, and breakfast with my family, dinner in Brooklyn with my aunts, uncles and cousins at Grandma's. The only stores open on Sundays were Mom and Pop operations and they closed early. We survived. Every chance I get I explain that more than ever we need Sundays as family day and we need to turn back the clock and have malls etc. closed on Sundays. Our lives are complicated and we need that one day to be together.

Seawolfe of VA
What a good post and how true it is.

Some gave all and some gave none.

Religious right - secular left
"I won't argue this point but I will very much point out that the religious right is NOT pure and simple Christianity but a nasty form of christianity that would kill Jesus again if he showed up"

I love it when the secular left, who support the wholesale slaughter of babies in the womb lecture the world of true Christianity. Truett Cathy is a member of the "religious right"(read his books) and his philanthropy proves it. Compare that with Biden's "patriotism." He gave a few thousand over the course of a decade and making millions, legally and illegally. What a joke.Thank God for His church...

Great men
I too applaud these men and I know for a fact that others in lesser known businesses follow the same principles. I shop at a grocery store here in Richmond, VA, owned by several generations of the U'Krop family. They have big beautiful stores all over eastern VA. They close on Sundays so that those employees who choose to do so may worship in their church of choice, they do not sell alcohol, cigarettes nor do they sell the filthy rag newspapers, etc. that abound almost everywhere else. They have employees who have been trained in kindness and helpfulness toward customers and will themselves show you where to find the product you are looking for and, even in a huge store with a multitude of customers, will recognise and greet you every time you enter!!!

These are the kind of people who make America great, and it's OK to wear an American flag in your lapel!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

great story
And one of the reasons why the Dem pandering fools who are always first at legislating businesses to be decent humn beings are barking up the wrong tree.

The vast majority of business owners are decent people, and they do not need a Gov. to tell them how to be good citizens and good to their employees. It is an insult.

There are a few bad eggs. They can be dealt with on their own merits and faults.

For instance, in my opinion, Wal-Mart really needs to rethink its position on offering affordable healthcare to employees. I understand they hav shareholders to answer to and ever increasing demands for profit growth.

But Obama can cajole them and encourage them, create an incentive to do so; we needn't legislate it.

To Hal Donahue
"...hiring illegals and locking them in.."? I've never seen the holding cages or balls and chains for Walmart employees. People work at Walmart by free choice. If they want better benefit packages, let them choose another employer. Walmart succeeds because it is the best at doing what it is supposed to do--providing good products at low prices. The government fails when it requires companies to carry out its social engineering agendas.

We the People must change the
Defining of America, not Dems and not Obama.
Up North they called them 'Sunday Blue Laws', only filling Stations, Resteraunts, and a few 'True' Convience Stores could be open for those Emergencies that Popped up.
I do not work Sundays at all, I do not ask my fellow workers to do it either, unless its an emergency. HVAC is an Everyday emergency.
I have lost money because of it but not enough to cry over and my customers return because of my work and the little extras I give them.
This would be a good 'Change' the Dems would hate.

Hal says:
"the religious right is NOT pure and simple Christianity but a nasty form of christianity that would kill Jesus again if he showed up"

Hal, we would ALL kill Jesus again. That's the message of Calvary. Don't exclude yourself in the equation.

Without the Politics
This article is one that again exemplifies the fact that as America became an increasingly greedy nation (greed is sin) and fought tooth and nail to change local laws that restricted opening on sundays; we as a nation have little by little stepped away from the Lord. When a business becomes a ministry for the Lord its employees become grounded in the truth of a higher moral standard and code of ethics. Those empolyees then share that truth with others in their lives by their actions and conduct rather than their words. But, the temptation of greed and the love of money steps in to corrupt;it can become the directing force if the original words of truth are not followed or even encouraged. As with the slow but steady drumbeat of removing God from all aspects of personal life through mans law, which has fostered the greed and self worth attitude that is corrupting the fabric of our society today. Should we all make the choice to follow the example of a man like Mr. Cathy; my guess is that those ideals fostered upon the nation will be reversed and again we can see a nation that once was great, because of its people and their convictions; not inspite of them.

noboma and the MSM
HAL---Sometimes you do make some small effort at makeing sense--however, can you tell us WHO in THE WORLD, came up with this government sponcered, "from the cradle to the grave" bullsh#t?

I think it's already too late for us with the mentality that is being shown all over our Country.

Hal--your statement that Jesus would be killed if he came back just shows your stupitity.

Thanks Luci Richmond
I use the U'Krop example in teaching, as I lived in Richmond some 20 years ago, and I often wondered if they still operate in the same wonderful friendly Christan manner. I worked for another Christian founder of Overnite Transportation, and the enviroment then was fun and family back then, I understand much has changed since the takeover by another company. Hal Donahue must be a very unhappy person based on his posts. Our country was founded on Christian and Bibical princples. Those ideals and the teachings of Christ still work in business today, its is indeed a shame that we have allowed greed to bring our nation to the point of socialism. Pray for our leaders, and revival across our land.

Hal
We ALL did kill Jesus in the first place. Not one human is or was exempt from hammering the nails in His hand or feet. Both of us, me, and you were responsible for his death. Our hands held the scourging whips that tore his flesh away. We spat on Him and mocked Him and punched Him. Truth be known, that was supposed to be us on that cross. We were supposed to take that punishment for our own and individual sins; but He took it for us; for you, and for me. Whats even more than that, He keeps taking that punishment from man, Willingly, Lovingly; all the time waiting for each and every one of us to accept Him in faith and belief. But He wont force or corerice any of us into believing, He Loves us enough to allow us to make that choice for ourselves. When at that point, we truly understand what we did to Him, we drop the whips and hammers and are willing to serve Him and All men for Him; as His hands, as His feet and as His Words. We then share the greatest Love ever known, and it flourishes, and grows, and then we see truth in/as real change.

Star's ability to real basics
While continue, Star provides a clear, simple yet profound message about what America "was" once upon a time and ,should there be effort by those who are thankful for being an American, what it can once again be. But it will not be easy or instantaneous.

The GOP won't define America until they stage a MASSIVE RINO HUNT!

So when did a HEATHEN like you get a DD Degree? Otherwise how can a HEATHEN state with CERTAINTY what IS Christian and what IS NOT Christian. BTW, DD stands for Doctor of Divinity, not Dilapidated Drunk.

Walmart again
Walmart is being sued for forcing workers to work overtime without pay, and has already settled a similar suit for $50 million. "Look! The wages you failed to pay the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty."- James 5:4

Victor Reply # 27
Victor, if you are a Republican, it may be up to you to help the Republicans to define America again. It is conceivable that as individuals, we too often, too heavily depend upon elected officials; who have time and time again proven not to have America's best interests at heart. Could it be that we, the people; one individual at a time, will need to act, and act decively to bring back American values?

Subject: Thanks Chick-Fil-A Store
It was a breath of fresh air to see that we still have stores that will close on Sunday's and allow for family and faith. I remember growing up the time when nothing but maybe a gas station or a couple of others might be open part of the day. This would be awesome to see more of this. As was said in another comment we all need more family and worship with families as use to be. America was founded on faith in God and family values. May we come back to that through prayer and putting God first back in America. Blessings to S Truett Cathy for keeping the principles upon what America is really all about a faith in one true God and the Christian principles we need to come back to.

Wonderful, but....
I personally think we are all individually responsible to be more like Mr. Cathy. We have neighbors and relatives, and people in the supermarket that could use OUR help.

You don't have to be rich to change the world.

We need to stop gossip in its tracks. We need to realize that this is slander. The Rabbis teach that the tongue is far more deadly than the arrow. It reaches farther and wounds deeper.

We need to think of the other guy in this society of me, me me.

We do not need to put these great humans on pedestals to represent what we think we don't have to achieve.

We need to be Mr. Cathy in everything that we do.

Change for the worse
In societies with strong religious and family values, the world of business worked mostly in harmony with civilization. A business was established to last for generations, being passed down from parent to child. Up until the "cultural revolution" of the 60s, such was the norm for American businesses.

The anti-establishment attitude of the hippies taught America to question tradition and mocked looking at the past or planning for the future. America was taught that life is all about what the individual can get now!

And now we have businesses failing and corporate executives lying about profits to milk as much as they can out of the company before it goes bankrupt. Business in America is no longer about building something to last for generations, it is all about serving the greed of now.

While it is true that there were ruthless businessmen in the past who were corrupt, greedy, and evil, they still built corporate empires with an eye to the future. Even that is gone now.

Cathy an example of what God can do
I was poor at one time and it affected my political views. I'm sorry to say that I favored political candidates whom I felt could "do something for me," without much consideration of their integrity or truthfulness.

I'm not poor now because I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. Now I realize I don't have to rely on politicians to provide me with what I need - God will help me. And he wants to help ANYONE who will entrust their life to him.

God has made it possible for me to prosper and excel in my profession. I now look at political leaders through the prism of which will be most likely to lead in a manner consistent with a manner that is pleasing to God.

God loves us; obedience to him and his word, as detailed in the bible, is most important to him.

Do your part
I personally will not shop on holidays or Sunday. No going out to eat either.

Figure if sales drop enough they will close to honor family and church if one chooses.

Americans think of themselves and not others. If we thought of others we would deny ourselves.

Who will define America?
During these difficult times, I think that closing stores on Sunday, like Chick-Fil-A, giving employees and employers time to rest, spend time with family, church, and friends, would save a good amount of money for retailers. It would be a stretch for people to learn the new way of doing business but I believe it would be a positive move in the long run.

Obama, et al, are Wrong
I applaud Cathy, Simon, Walton and all like them. I hand signal also to the Clintons, George Soros, Barack Hussein Obama and all like them – a one-finger salute. Cathy, Simon, Walton and those like them honor God living by Christian principles. The latter are Godless, greedy, self-centered, their own little gods and hypocritical in the extreme.
Who will define America? The former, not the latter.
I am a Christian but not a martyr, rather a soldier in the Army of God. We are under attack from the Godless in a culture war both domestic and foreign.
I follow the Jesus Christ-Messiah, Son of God - incarnate on earth who made a scourge, drove those who sold sacrificial creatures and the money changers out of the Temple, overturning their tables. I follow the Jesus who so vexed the powerful attempting to control the people that the power-hungry urged the foreign occupiers to crucify Him.
I fight by all means legal and right the latter – domestic and foreign enemies of the U.S., free people everywhere and God – to my death if necessary because I know my reward is eternal life with God. There are many like me. We and even the martyred Christians will enjoy the ultimate victory. The latter will suffer death without honor or grace unless they change their ways.
Those who honor God have in the past and will continue ultimately to define America – still a Christian nation - and the rest of the free world. Obama is wrong.

Chick-Fil-A
Our youngest son got his first job there. He didn't care for the way customers tended to treat the kids behind the counter, including him, so left, but he has nothing but praise for his former employer.

Today I'll be lunching there with a friend, of all things! I'm glad knowing that I'll be helping a fellow believer in his works of charity, which are far more common among men of his stripe than either the Obamabots or the press would ever admit.

Well done!
You are absolutely, 100% correct, Star. We are becoming a nation who waits for a handout, who clings to its mother's skirt and whines for a cookie. We need to remember we are self-made men and women who rise to the top through hard work and skilled entrepreneurship. Please hold on to this legacy and don't allow the liberal illuminati to debase us into a motley crew of beggars. PS. LOVE CHICK-FIL-A!!!! I might just have to have that for lunch.

not all liberals support abortion. that's like saying all conservatives are redneck racists. I notice the same people who spout off about Jesus and Christianity are the same people who spout off hateful responses to those who disagree with them.

Whatever, whoever is your God,
from Pantheism to the belief in the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost, you'd better be sure that Obama-Rule does not take that from you. When Fascism overtook Germany and other areas of Europe during WWII, people had turned their leaders, like Hitler, into their God. In order for America to rot from within, we will also have to give our beliefs up and worship Obama-Rule and whatever he says is the truth. May the good Lord stand by us and help us not to do that or we will all have sold our souls to evil. Always remember: History is Prologue.

Wal-Mart-- maybe not!
Not all would agree with the Wal-mart policy of having goods manufactured overseas, taking those jobs away from Americans, their low pay for many hours of work, and some of their food items that you wonder how many times someone slapped them up against a wall before putting them on display. And, how about all those mom and pop stores with good quality products and friendly personnel who knew your name, that were replaced by impersonal mega-Wal-Mart stores!!!!

Another good column--
Star writes another thoughtful column about how a small business can do a lot of good for its employees, but many small businesses have been forced out by the big corporations who can sell the same products for less. We here have always chosen the locally owned stores that always give good service, are honest, and really care about their employees and customers.
Stores like these is what America needs more of we believe.

Sobering thoughts...

...about the mission-minded of America. How did we lurch into this strange age of corporate and personal entitlement? It is so troubling.

Daniel

There are plenty of good and bad
small stores and business people. You know who you are.

I wish there were more like Chick-fil-A!
Cathy certainly has the right idea to encourage family time. I grew up in the days of "Sunday Blue Laws" which prohibited stores being open on Sunday. That was a day for families whether you were religious or not. My heart goes out to anyone who has to work retail on Sunday or a major holiday. If stores were only open 24/6 instead of /7, I think everyone would still be able to find time to shop.

We have good examples
of benevolent young people, but the national press ignores them. I really think the media is a big reason why there is an epidemic of narcissism in this country.

Good article.

I agree with ur referenced blog 101% I spent 25 years in the Military, from 53-78, and I got a real good look at the Flower Children up close and personal going thru the "Great State of Ca" on my way to 3 helpings of "Fun in rhe Sun and Sand" AKA SEA Wargames!!
Not to say that Ca represented all that was bad , but I've never gotten over it to the wxtent that I've never set foot in the State again..It's hard to brelieve that Most participants in the Movement didn't learn much!!
Just MY Opinion--Doesnt count for Much11CHEERS

The more pressing question is
who will be left to support America? It has already been redefined, as evidenced by the elections.

"How, from this, did we become a nation
of blame, bailouts, and entitlement?"

The next question is: How did we allow this to happen in 2 years?

America is being dismembered before our very eyes... without anesthesia. Sounds sort of like an abortion doesn't it?

Depends on your point of view.

People who love america define and love America for all the Conservative good deeds we do around the world. Disaster relief, Global security, freeing and protecting the weak.

People who hate America will continue to do so based upon what evils Liberals project. Muslims in particular hate America for liberals imposing their morals on the young of their country thru Hollywood films and music. For imposing their values concerning marriage, child rearing, justice, healthcare and just generally being culturally insensitive.

As always,
...another excellent column by Star Parker. If only the public schools taught simple, honest truths like this, maybe then, the tide would turn. (How can a man like Cathy be so unknown by his own countrymen?) The kgb media are criminal in there lies and obfuscation of what America is really all about. Just criminal.

They actually have a U.S. postal stamp commemorating the Islamic holidays of Eid al Fitr and Eid al-Adha which have nothing to do with America's Christmas holidays which is a Judeo Christian celebration. Why would the postal service use America's tax dollars to do this after 911 and the beheadings of our military and civilians from around the world; bombings and killings of innocent people and threats against America and our soldiers still in harm's way on their soil. Why didn't they publish a U.S. stamp with our soldiers fighting in harm's way instead? I haven't seen the U.S. Postal Service fighting for Judeo-Christian stamps or Mormon stamps or Catholic stamps nor Merry Christmas stamps recently- I wonder why! Hmmmmm - Maybe, the millions of Judeo Christians should think about why their tax dollars are used to commemorate a Islamic holiday in America where the far left is attempting to kick Judeo-Christians to the curb and mock them and didn't commemorate our soldiers who died and are injured for the U.S. Postal Service employees.

Good article!
Thank you, Star, for another good article. We, and our government, need to get back to basics. Too many of our countrymen have been too liberally indcotrinated in our school systems and have no idea what the exceptionalism of America means any more.

@ Rose:
Rose, please do not embarrass yourself! Islam is a direct derivative of Judaism and Christianity, estupida! Go and learn about the world before you come here and make a fool out of yourself (to our great amusement).

Your post was somewhat rude, in my opinion. Have you read the texts of the three religions you cited? Do you know the basis and underpinnings of Sharia law?

While I do not object to your ideas per se, I do not think it appropriate to put someone else down publicly.

And before you ask, yes I have done my homework relative to the religions and their texts.

@ If only:
It is fully permissible, even desirable to publicly put down those who use their own ignorance to foist intolerance on the rest of us. Rose is limited when it comes to her knowledge and as such should be quiet until she has informed herself properly so she can join a conversation with the adults. I concur that I might be a bit harsh in my choice of words, but such is the life: sometimes it is hard.

"Wal-Mart-- maybe not!
Not all would agree with the Wal-mart policy of having goods manufactured overseas, taking those jobs away from Americans, their low pay for many hours of work, and some of their food items that you wonder how many times someone slapped them up against a wall before putting them on display. And, how about all those mom and pop stores with good quality products and friendly personnel who knew your name, that were replaced by impersonal mega-Wal-Mart stores!!!!"

Where in the heck do you get this stuff? You wanna tell me WalMart owns companies like Johnson & Johnson? Walmart purchases the goods wholesale and sells them to you retail...nothing more. Bet you shop at Target which has the same made in China products you goober.

Star, you are a star!
I just love you, girl. You are the proof that we can overcome what our circumstances and bad judgment get us into, and succeed. The truly successful demonstrate this every day. It's about a great idea, hard work, smart business sense (and/or hiring the right folks), and faith in God, Country, and the unlimited possibilities of the free market. The true entrepreneurs are the ones who provide jobs, inspire loyalty amongst their employees, and give back to the community that patronizes their establishments. It's a great story! Government subsidized industries can never compare. They are not what our nation was built upon!

Star hits a home run
As a small business owner for the past 23 years, I have treated my customers the way I would want to be treated.Fairly. During this past year, My cost on products triple being petroleum oriented, packaged and transported. My competitors have raised prices to coincide with thier costs... I did not. I made less profit but lost no customers. I feel its more important to stay in business, be trusted by your clients, and have a clear conscience. Kudos to Star Parker on hitting that one out of the park!
