Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

A feature story in this week's New York Times Magazine asks, "Is Obama the End of Black Politics?"

This in the wake of a full week of TV talking heads asking if presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama played the "race card" in his response to John McCain's Obama "celebrity" ads. And an opinion piece in the Wall Street Journal by black journalist Juan Williams saying "The Race Issue Isn't Going Away."

Williams is right. The race issue isn't going away. And the New York Times feature, which profiles new young black politicians around the nation -- like Massachusetts governor Deval Patrick, Newark, N.J., mayor Corey Booker, and Philadelphia mayor Michael Nutter -- sheds little light on the issue in what it says.

More revealing about the Times piece is what it doesn't say.

The Times reporter never found it relevant to note that every black politician he spoke to is a Democrat. Nor did he see a need to talk to a single black conservative.

It's not like black conservatives have nothing to say here. Hoover Institution scholar Shelby Steele wrote a book about Obama. Tom Sowell has regularly written about him, as have I.

But black conservatives are not considered relevant to these discussions because race is not an issue of ethnicity but an issue of politics. Black politics means liberal politics and hence black conservatives are not black.

When I do media and speak as a conservative, I can expect emails pouring in from blacks calling me a sellout, who cannot conceive that I actually believe what I say, and for whom there is little doubt that I am a paid Republican shill.

Almost a third of blacks surveyed in a recent Wall Street Journal poll responded that race is the most important or one of the most important considerations in their vote.

But practically speaking, it makes no difference. Despite black excitement and pride in the Obama candidacy, the black vote would go for whoever headed the Democratic ticket, white or black. In 2004 John Kerry got 88 percent of the black vote.

The dynamics that the Obama candidacy has interjected is new only in form, not in content.

In the past, the liberal at the top of the heap for whom blacks overwhelmingly voted was white. Now that liberal is black. That's new.

Barack Obama, as Shelby Steele has written, departs from the Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton brand of politics in that he is far more sophisticated and subtle in how to play on white guilt and how to intimidate. That's new.

But the liberal content and agenda is not new, and this blacks continue to buy en masse.

The points conservatives have been hammering home for the last 20 years have not been for naught. There is increasing awareness among blacks how family breakdown is driving the social problems of the community.

This is not lost on Obama. His speeches paying credence to the importance and relevance of personal responsibility are well received among blacks, but also play well to the whites he wishes to reach.

But the program behind the words remains comfortably lodged on the far left. Big government answers for everything, redistribution of wealth, use of law as a tool for politics, liberal abortion policies, and legitimization of the gay agenda.

The relevant question is not if Obama means the end of black politics. The issue is will black politics -- black uniform support for liberals -- ever change?

In a Pew Research Center survey of blacks done last year, almost 90 percent said that Oprah Winfrey is a "good influence," but only 50 percent said Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and just 31 percent said Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas are.

In the same survey, almost 70 percent of blacks said they "almost always/frequently" face discrimination when applying for a job or when renting or buying an apartment or house.

Despite the fact that the survey showed that blacks have traditional and conservative views regarding crime and promiscuity, the sense of vulnerability defines black attitudes and politically trumps everything else. There's a lot of history driving these feelings and liberals will continue to exploit them.

Things won't change until blacks begin to see that these same liberal politics and attitudes are at the root of their problems today.

Black Liberal Politics
It is a specific form of LIBERAL politics.

Yes, Yes, and Yes!

You said it! I am a 40ish Black female. I agree with you whole-heartedly!

This man, BO, seems to be a seasoned deceiver. The worst thing is that those that practice such deceit are usually vulnerable to being deceived. He scares me, not only on domestic and social issues, but he absolutely terrifies me on foreign policy issues. If Rev. Wright could "pull the wool" over his eyes for 20 years (I don’t think he did, btw) what might Ahmadinejad be able to get pass him?

Black politics
Let's not even get into what the news media does with the term black politics. The really sad part about this is that practically every black friend I have or have ever had is more conservative than I even am. It is sad that so many black people fall for the crap coming out of the democrats mouths and vote for them. The democrats do not stand where the majority of black people stand on the issues. They are just being taken for granted and used by the creep liberals.

Slavery Continues
Great article! Keep up the good work because there are many really decent conservative Black Americans who are respected and admired in this nation. It is a shame that B. Hussein has entered the presidential race because I feel that he, his wife, and some of his friends have created a situation that has set race relations back about 50 years. If only Black Americans would realize that the liberals have merely substituted one form of slavery for another. This a much more dangerous form- this slavery is to a government, to a select group of politicians. This is an enslavement of the mind that worships victimization, grievance, self-pity, and the inability to prosper without governmental interference and intercession. The Democrat party was a proponent of slavery in early American history and this continues today. When will Black America realize this?

President
I nominate Star Parker for President of these United States. I would also like to nominate La Shawn Barber as the Vice President of our country.

Good article.
We all need to start looking at the content of a person's character and not the color of their skin. Obama is to the far left and should not be elected president. But there are always some people who want something for doing nothing.

politics
I wish Sowell was the candidate for the republicans

Presidential Nominations
I would nominate La Shawn for President, and Star Parker as her Vice President.

politics
I wish Sowell or Williams was running on the republican ticket.

Thanks, Katz
Katz is right on mark re: slavery today. The plantation owners are named Sharton, Jackson, Jackson Jr., Nutter, Obama, et.al. Easy abortion in the inner city, easy welfare money, the down playing of social respondsibilty, corrupt and ineffective teacher unions, slap-on-the-hand liberal judges, a disarmed inner-city populace unable to defend themselves and more are the tools of slavery in the hands of the masters. To what end? POWER ! Brutal, merciless power to control, the same brutal, merciless power to control seen in China, Saudi Arabia, Burma, Darfur,Kosovo,Serbia,Cuba ...Do I need to go on? My prayer go out to the innocent victims ... Those stuck living on the new plantations. Please, someone, Think and Wake Up! Stop this before whole generations are totally lost!

We need more Star Parkers...
As one whom grew up in a working class family in Philadelphia, Pa. during the tumultuous 60s I witnessed many of my Black clssmates as a result of their Parochial school education go on to become successful in many fields of endeavor. I also witnessed the failed social experiment and double standards that started to permeate the public school system, dependance on welfare, affirmative action, etc.
The race baiters whom appointed themselves "leaders" within the Black community creating a cottage industry that benefited them financially, thereby creating incentive to find "racism" around every corner.
MLK marched to end double standards, yet liberals and the race baiters fight to keep them alive...only they are reversed.
I would vote for a viable African-American candidate in a heartbeat. It ain't about race, it's about Values, the constitution, Declaration of Independence...upholding what made America what it is- that attracts millions to our shores annualy. Obama and his ilk see nothing but it's faults and feel he must change it to confrom to his Marxist ideology. Neither he or his wife see anything positive in America...until now. Most Americans would disagree...I hope.

Vice Presidential Candidate
If Condoleeza Rice does not want to be McCains Vice Presidential choice; how about Star Parker?

With friends like Democrats...
Blacks voting 90% for Democrats are like addicts voting for their drug supplier.

The drug in this case is either an actual handout or the constant assurance that blacks forever bear absolutely no responsibility for their lives and deeds.

In all cases, the "drug" is very bad for the user. For example, since the 1960's, Democrat driven Welfare and other entitlement programs have destroyed the black family. And still, they keep on voting for them.

The 10% or so blacks like Ms. Parker who have escaped this self-defeating behavior have a solemn duty to keep pointing out what works and what doesn't work. Whites cannot solve this problem. Half of whites (Dems) enable the problem and half (Republicans) have been demonized as "mean" or "racist" merely for suggesting a switch to a simple formula of self-sufficiency that works for every race and culture that tries it (maximize education, have children within a marriage, steady work). In fact, it worked for blacks themselves who were closing the economic gap between themselves and whites until the 1960's.

Handouts weaken people like slow poison.

Of course..
There are some conservatives who I'm sure would love to sound off on the issue.

Ward Connerly? Times should have given him a call, but we know they won't.

Truth is, the media benefits the most from racial strife and it behooves them to search for it.

Liberal Politics
You are right on, Star Parker - thank you! Few black columnists are willing to state the case. As I see it, the black community has been a political pawn for generations following the Civil War. Given the right to vote (which took a long hard fight, mostly with conservative help), crafty politicians found fertile soil in whch to plant their seeds of dependency. This angle was (and still is) played by both sides. The problem is that liberals found a way to keep that community more beholden by way of government give-aways. While conservatives urged them to be independent, self-reliant and break the chain of dependency. New Orleans was a perfect example of thousands of innocent, good people who truly believed the "government" would come to save them. With minimal exceptions they did not take any initiatives. However, many who were forced to leave the city for other locations up north discovered a way of life they never dreamed they could achieve. Juan Williams is of the liberal persuasion, but even he sees the lack of sincerity in Mr O's rhetoric. As for Thomas Sowell running for public office - I prefer him where he is - a respected voice of reason in this world gone mad. There have been good conservative black men run for public office, Alan Keyes for instance. Because they are "conservative" they are suspect - of what I am not quite sure.
BHO could have been a wonderful chapter in the history of this country. As time goes on, his elitist attitude toward the everyday folk clearly shows him to be arrogant and self-centered - despite his rhetorical articulation.

'Race!'
Er, make that 'Black.' Er, make that 'Liberal.'

Boring & tiring. Forty years worth of boring & tiring. My take on 'blacks': Spoiled children. Twelve-percent of the population who refuse to grow up. Constant whining; temper-tantrums; demanding at every juncture to be included with the big boys not on the basis of merit but because of their self-perceived exceptionalism. Feeling cheated & deprived. Ungrateful, nasty, refusing to be educated. Proud of their ignorance. A bastardy rate of 60%. Accounting for over half the violent crime in the country. Full of some crap about a tribal 'soul' which endows them with an intuitive wisdom which whitey can never fathom. OJ as hero; Obama as Messiah. And, above all, certain that their misery, right down to every hang-nail, is directly attributible to whitey.

And right about here is when the chorus chimes in: 'Racist!' Bull! The 'racists' in American society are the p*mps who trot that charge out every time someone nails them with a truthful statement. And the truth is that 'blacks' in America continue to squander a gift that half the world would jump at: being an American citizen.

Pampered & spoiled brats! 'Things' will never change for them... not because of their stars, but because of themselves. Forty years of yakking has proven that.

The Threads Today
I have read each post by heartfelt persons contributing to Star Parker's column. There is not one contribution by the Kimberly's, and the other lib suspects, not one defense of the accusations of Star Parker. I marvel at the contributions of today's posts in support of Star Parker's column, each of them skillfully answering and stating the problem with race in the U.S. I could not add to the posts, but I did want to thank the contributors for their abilities to state the case in support of Star Parker.

Moonbats are still asleep. They will show up.

I would happily vote
for ex-Asst.Governor Michael Steele from Maryland if he ran for President or Vice-President.
The differemnce is he understands World History and Geography.
He knows Iran is a very large, Important country in that part of the world.
If I still lived in Maryland I would have voted for him.
He is a wonderful change from Sen. Pelosi's father and grandfather.

I am a Marylander
and I did vote for Mr. Steele. I am a beltway denizen so I live in the heart of libland. When I vote they say "Hey, Gertrude, I told you there was a Republican coming in today". In the election where Mr. Streele lost his bid for the US Senate we also lost our first Republican governor in a long time. We had a multi-BILLION $ surplus when the morons around the beltway voted in the Mayor of Baltimore, a tax and spend liberal with a miserable record in Baltimore. Before he was even swron in he was talking about Maryland's massive DEFICIT.

Character Not Color
Some black politicians seem to not follow the advice of MLK on race, but white Americans have.

When White Americans see bad character in a black candidate the only response is that we are prejudice.

Yes, I am predjudiced against a character with false accusations against white Americans.

AFDC=less abortion
As long as the welfare state pays (AFDC, WIC, food stamps, etc) single moms for each baby they squirt out, abortion means a pay cut for crack hos and other irresponsible bimbos.

Too many BlacksSwallow Left-Wing Lies.
Truth is without the almost monolithic black vote, there would be no Democratic party.

However, there is a significant, but small number of blacks, who are voting conservative.

George W. Bush would not have won Ohio in 2000 without conservative Blacks, Catholics, and Jews who voted for him.

I'm from Ohio, and we will decide the election again.

Calling African Americans Hos, and Welfare Queens just plays into Democrats hands.

AMERICAS PLATFORM
"THE PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE" says it all.
The FOUNDATION on which America was built was and is a platform of "AMERICANISM"
Our candidates each have their platforms. It has become convincingly clear to me that J. McCain stands on the platform of "AMERICANISM" and B. Obama stands on a platform of "RACISM".
We are "ALL" AMERICANS. Until the hyphenated labels of individuals are erased, we do not stand "INDIVISIBLE" or "ONE NATION UNDER GOD".
Our individual pride of heritage is a tribute to the roots of our past, but not who we are today. We are AMERICAN citizens, we are not English-American, German-American, Mexican-American, African-American etc.
I urge "ALL" PROUD AMERICANS to vote for the platform of "AMERICANISM". And those who are not proud of America, continue to hyphenate and divide our country, I urge to return to their native lands.

the blacks, the dims and socialism
exactly why should whites believe that the message of personal responsibility means anything to the blacks living within the inner cities.

All the public has heard for the past 40 years from the various race hustlers is that racism on the part of whites is everywhere. No matter what the issue, no matter what the problem, no matter what the situation blacks are never told they have to assume responsibilities for their own lives.

The dims and the teachers unions control ever large inner city yet all the country sees is declining cities and failed schools with continuing declines in graduation rates and growing illiteracy.

So what is one of the messiah's solutions. He tells black parents to occasionally turn off the television.

But b hussein is fully engaged is acceptance of rap music and seems to have no problem with it's destructive message and the culture of being a gangsta.

But he has also used the code words that blacks are fully tuned in to. He talks of more govt, more entitlements, more affirmative action and now reparations.

Yet the messiah used affirmative action as his ticket into college, not because of his family situation or the education he had received but only because his skin color was the easiest ticket to college entry

One of the charges that blacks have been making is that all whites have benefited financially from slavery and that is the reason reparations are owed.

Yet when does the messiah say anything that contradicts the false assertion but continues his run using victimization and white lib guilt to propel his bid for the presidency.

When have his supporters ever gotten away from the charges that any opposition to his being elected is first and only based on white racism. And why does the messiah cry that any criticism of him, his wife, his thin resume or his experience is always a racist attack

Alright
Fall in!

For those of you that are interested, my blog is finally up and running.

Click on my name and come read "Blazing Obama."

'Nuff said.

Fall out!

KEEP SHINING, STAR!
I saw Star Parker on CSPAN the other week and it is unreal the amount of invective that came her way from Black callers. "Sell out" was the overall theme, but she (we) have had it with the ideas of the left. I live in the Chicago metropolitan area and you don't need to look anywhere else to see the fruits of Democrat rule. The mayor, the Cook County President and the governor are all Democrats. We have the highest gas prices in the nation, we have one of the highest sales tax rates in the nation, our schools are mediocre at best, and if you take a ride around this city, you will see significant areas of urban blight. I am doing fine, I make a great living, but the people who throw 90% of their support for Democrats year after year, especially the ones at the bottom end of the socio-economic ladder, are getting royally screwed. Star Parker and other Black conservatives are right. Thomas Sowell said it best. Black conservatives are so far in front of positive Black change that most people don't think they are even in the parade. Wake up, my people. For the love of God, wake up.

You're a star in my book Ms. Parker
I'm a white color blind voter. I could personally care less what color a persons skin is as long as they're right for the job.

While Obama is out there trying to play "Robin Hood" stealing from the rich (oil) to give to the poor ($1,000. to American working familys)and defiling our Constitution. And,
changing tacks more than a small sailboat on a gusty day by just giving voters what they want to hear. We're on a collision course with the devil and the demise of true American democracy.

It's nice to remember there are level headed logical patriots like you and Condi Rice,Clarence Thomas and Thomas Sowell.(to name a very few) It's a sad state of affairs when people of all races turn to Oprah and Obama for something they think resembles reason.

Instead of getting ugly Americans just have to ask is this black presidential candidate the right person for the job.
Easily answered ...NO
I would have easily voted for Condi Rice, she would have been an America asset.

I wish sometimes it was the late 1700 or early 1800's when media didn't have photos just type and then Americans would have to read and make an informed decision. Fredrick Douglass turned down a top spot in a campaign...Alas, MSM slants everything and many people black, white and purple listen to the likes of Katie Couric, Diane Sawyer, Rosie O'Donnell, Ellen Degenerate and Oprah.

Well no...
I mean LIBERAL BLACK POLITICS.

Liberal Politics is the basic version - any LIBERAL can play this...

BUT

Liberal black politics is LIBERAL POLITICS played with the RACE CARD.

The kind Obama is playing right now.

In my opinion,
what the liberals are doing to the responsible working class blacks is criminal.

It is also a crime against America & they should be sued for at least half of the cost that American workers have been forced to pay over these last 40yrs.

That would amount to about 6 trillion dollars.

Black America....quit letting the liberals use you for a doormat!

Make No Mistake
Make no mistake in thinking that Obama's rhetoric is about race. Race is just a thinly veiled attempt to divide our country and produce a "class" revolt. It will come down to the "lower class" against the "middle/upper class". If Obama wins and the "progressives" (aka; American Communists) are in charge of the country they will stir the pot of hate and produce chaos. Once choas and hatred reign in America then it will be the perfect time to implement full scale communist policy. We will all then be equal. Equal slaves to the "progressive" government.

I can only hope and pray that when my black neighbors see me and mine defending their rights, liberty and property with the same verracity that I defend my own, we can finally put the "race card" to rest. I will defend, and fight for anyone of any color, when it comes to freedom, liberty, and the throwing off of tyranny.

This column is absolutely absurd
Ms. Parker premises this article on the dearth of coverage the media affords black GOP politicians.

Please note, the one black GOP politician she cites is Steele, who ran years ago. Why? There are no black GOP representatives on the Hill, there has not been one since 2002, and in the 500 races this fall the GOP is not putting forth a single GOP candidate.

By way of contrast, the Dems are putting forth a black candidate for the most powerful position on the planet, and as we all know, blacks Dems are well placed on the Hill.

Bottom line, when it comes to the proposition that race is an impediment to national elected office, the Dems walk the walk, the GOP just talks.

BRYCE--YOU MISSED IT COMPLETELY!
Excuse me, but Star wrote about liberal policies and voices as compared to conservative policies and voices and how this impacts Black people. In your response, you only mention race and you felt the need to compare the number of Black Democrats on the hill to the number of Black GOPs on the hill. Basic statistics will tell you that when 90% of a population lean one way, when someone is elected from that pool, there's a 90% probability that the elected individual mirrors the majority. Please address the liberal policies that Ms Parker spoke of and show yourself worthy of being able to talk issues with out playing the race card. There are only 52 cards in a deck, my friend.

STAR
is a good name for you, lady. I would vote for a ticket of Thomas Sowell and you. I'm having a problem wrapping my arms around the most liberal member of the Senate, however. Call me a racist pig if you wish.

J C Watts
Where did that man get to?

OrpheusMay
The point is that blacks have embraced the Democratic party because the Dems have exhibited by deeds, not just empty rhetoric, their committment to black representation in Washington.

Look at it this way. You are a black parent who dreams of your child one day becoming President. As we speak, which party, by deed not rhetoric, offers a promise of that dream being realized?

What we need
Colon Powell, where are you when we need you.
Barack Obama has the wool pulled over so the eyes of so many people. Few really know the true Obama.
I am a white male, a double tour in Nam and I see a far different nation that the one I knew while when serving the country for six years.
The liberals are redesigning the whole ideology of the Constition. Common sense has become degeneration.
Where the Republicans erred was failing to seek the best man to present to the country as the candidate for president. And that is retired Gen. Colon Powell. He has already proven himself and his worth, Obama has not.
Is he a citizen of the United States first, or a citizen of the world first and foremost.
Colon Powell, where are you. The country needs you.

rtwgmomma
Watts left the Hill in 2002 bitterly disappointed with the GOP's attitude toward minority outreach and support.

SUPER STAR

Enlighten me!

LACK OF VISIBLE BLACK GOP POLITICIANS
I too am concerned about the current lack of highly visible black GOP politicians, but I offer a possible explanation. I believe there are some conservative black politicians who are Democrats for no other reason than to remain electable in their districts. What proof? Consider the treatment Ms. Parker receives. There are too many places where a black conservative GOP candidate would get the same treatment and lose his/her election even to a white Democrat. Surely our country deserves better than that kind of mentality.

rtwgmomma
I just did. Google Watts and see what he has to say about his Washington experience.

WHICH PARTY?
I am indeed a Black parent and as to your question as to which party offers a better chance of that dream being realized, the answer is clear. I teach my kids that all life is sacred, that God is the author and finisher of life. The Dems however, are the party of abortion. I teach my kids that this is the greatest country on the planet. There is a very good reason why people from all over the world come here to live. Yet, the Dems seem to be the party that is slamming this country for one reason or the other. I teach my kids about taxes and how government works and how they are to work hard, get good grades, go to a university to give them a good chance of having the life that they want to have. You know the old saying about giving a man a fish sandwich as opposed to teaching him how to fish? Government is not the answer, my friend. The Dems have been serving fish sandwiches for too long. As to why our people support the Dems, you need not look any further than the major media. 24/7/365 of GOP bashing for the past 40 years is why. Black people were in much better shape socially and economically in the early 60s than we are now. Its not even close. Got another item for you. Survey after survey shows that Black inner city parents want the opportunity to get their kids out of failing inner city schools. Yet, the Dems are against school choice. WHY? Could it be that a dumbed down electorate continues to vote the way of their parents? Could it be to keep people dependent on the Dems to keep "fighting for the little man"? Let me make sure i have this right, its all about choice when it comes to abortion, but I have no choice as to where I send my kid to school? Really? So which party Bryce? Color has nothing to do with it. I would campaign against my own mother if she had the positions the Dems now hold. Hey, wait, she actually does. Good thing she's not running for political office.

OrpheusMay
AMEN!!!

Fantastic Article!
This woman's article should serve as a wake up call to blacks who THINK liberals have their interests in mind. Do most blacks really want to be dependant on federal handouts or succeed on their own merits? I know many black people and I'd say 99% favor the latter but propaganda about conservatives clouds their judgment as stated in the article. Ask yourself how many blacks have held high cabinet positions in past liberal administrations? The highest ranking black(and ONLY)in the Clinton years was Surgeon General. Now ask yourself how many blacks have held high cabinet positions during the past 8 years. The comparison is very enlightening IF you care to look past the liberal rhetoric about conservatives. If conservatives were truly racists they would favor helping only whites, not true. The difference is their approach. A hand UP rather than a hand OUT. Give a man a fish you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish you feed him for life. Blacks need to vote NOT on the race of the politician but rather on how he/she TRULY means to help them. Dependance is NOT helping but merely creating a new "master" for you to serve. Like a drug addiction, governmental dependance is destroying the Black community from within and all the libs have to offer is MORE dependance.

bryce
blacks have fully embraced the dims because the dims enable victimization and the entitlement plantation.

But what black in congress comes from any district that doesn't have a large majority black population. In fact how many blacks are in congress because the courts had to first cobble together districts so that they would have a majority black population.

Other than b hussein and former gov wilder and the gov of mass, how many blacks running as dims have run statewide elections.

B hussein was aided by a political scandal in illinois or he possibly wouldn't have been elected us senator.

But which is it that keeps you crying like someone who fully embraces the victim mentality. Are you one of these bleeding heart libs or just another black fully engaged in victimization.

That the dims and the black civil rights groups have labeled the repubs as racist and the efforts of the race hustlers such as sharpton and jackson, guarantees that blacks will always be a part of the dims party.

That successful blacks like rice, thomas and powell have been labeled as turncoats to the blacks seems that blacks fail to appreciate black success if they are repubs.

But three blacks ran for statewide office in maryland, ohio and pennsylvania and received no support from the black community.

Blacks fully believe that blacks can only be dims and will not support anyone outside that party.

Wisdom
?If the 80 percent of the black people who vote for the demonrats had an intelligentquotient of over 85 they would look around and see who is walking to the grocery store for groceries. Any black who desire to be known as African American should
realize they are not, and will not be considered an American by an American, or by any other nationally able to discern what an American is. There are many fine black people who have become American. For the rest let me remind you that all blacks had free transportation back to Africa if they had chosen to do so after the
states right war and Lincoln freed the slaves. The decedents of those who chose to stay in America instead of going home should direct their displeasure with their ancestors not at the white population which was willing to pay their passage back to
their tribes in Africa. There are fine black doctors of medicine, Walter Williams, and Thomas Sowell are black men of tremendous intelligence, either of which I
would vote for President in a heartbeat. I had a black nurse attend my baby who was to sick to eat who loved my baby as much as I. I had a friend injured on the field of battle, and it was not his white buddies who risked their life to drag him to safety, but a black soldier thought enough of him to make a rescue while under fire.
I have a great grandson of black decent, and a granddaughter of black decent. I believe they will tell you that they are as special to me as any other of my relatives. It is time for the black population decide to do for themselves what only they can do, such as do something about the ridicules birtrate of illegitimate children. Take advantage of the education opportunities and as my five year old would say, “Get a
life.”

IMHO
Conservatives are too meek in their approach to informing blacks about their intentions. By that I mean they should take a page from the liberals and POINT OUT how liberals routinely ignore the accomplishments of blacks and promote instead their white "progressives". The author is correct when she says blacks identify more with conservative views but vote liberal almost SOLELY because they've been bombarded with negative images of white conservatives who supposedly hate minorities. Blacks need to ask themselves exactly WHAT has Jessie Jackson done for them REALLY. Promoting hate/racism by a black man is no different than a David Duke promoting supposed white supremacy. BOTH reek of racial hatred. Charles Barkley once said that "The only thing the liberal gave the black man was an inferiority complex" and he was right. By telling someone they cannot survive without a handout you are in fact telling them they aren't GOOD enough to compete. NONSENSE. Blacks are major contributors in all the arts and sciences. Hopefully one day the majority of blacks will see this and change their thinking. It is my firm belief that if blacks ever do that will be THE END of the "progressive movement" in this country.

Tom and Orpheus
Tom, as was repeatedly pointed out during the Gonzales fiasco, cabinet members serve at the pleasure of the President. They can be removed at any time for any reason. Elected officials can only be removed by the voters, or an act of Congress. Additionally, Rice et al derive their power from the power of elected officials to make and approve nominations. Lastly, as we all know, the real power in Washington rests with the money, and it is elected officials who approve the recommendations of Rice et al and appropriate funding to impliment those recommendations.

Orpheus, all of your assertions regarding the GOP are rhetorical. Where the GOP lectures blacks about what issues they should embrace, the Dems actually put forth black candidates who can vote based own their own stand on the issues.

I cite Kitty
As a perfect example of the GOP lecturing to black people.

Who are you to lecture to me and others regarding my self-definition as black, African American, negro, or whatever?

To Edna from CO
From Edna in NC

Nice to have someone who shares my name and has wonderful philosophy.

Lift the shales from your eyes folks
For all of your rhetoric, the Dems have made a black man the leader of the party, while the GOP is extending its' run of zero black representation on the Hill by at least two more years. Are they trying for a record?

Another reason blacks reject the GOP is evidenced by the posts here. According to the GAO, during the years of the last census, 24% of blacks received some sort of government assistance. Yet, if one were to read the comments here you would think that every black in America is standing in line waiting for government cheese.

I, like most black people, have always worked to support myself, and am loathe to associate myself with a party whose adherents see me and other blacks as just another welfare recepient voting for a government handout.

Bryce
Wrote that "blacks are well placed on the hill" and he's right. They are placed in a position of servitude to their white liberal enablers. Tell us Bryce, how many high ranking cabinet positions did blacks hold during the Clinton years? ONE(surgeon general). How many during the Bush years? Not less than 2 (sec. of state and sec. of defense)SIMULTANEIOUSLY. Seems your liberal friends don't view blacks as suitable for those positions, why? LBJ promised to see JFK's civil rights initiatives thru and he did so ONLY with backing of GASP!!! REPUBLICANS on the hill. Dems opposed it by a VAST majority of 73%. Isn'tit IRONIC that the party who pushes equal rights has as it's senior leader a former KKK wizard? A simple reading of LBJ's memoirs PROVES how civil rights legislation was passed and ADDED to by REPUBLICANS. Bryce do you REALLY think Libs support Obama cuz he's black or cuz he's LIBERAL? Obama has adapted their revisionist views and he is a PRODUCT of their public indocrination(schools). His being black is only a PLUS in their eyes because THEY control his every thought. Afterall, he GOT his anti-American views FROM them. He's their PERFECT "Uncle Tom" and they will ride him to victory and this country into the GROUND if not stopped.

Star Parker is a very smart...
young woman, wise beyond her years. She and many others understand that Democrats, despite their rhetoric are not the friends that they would have the Black Community thinks they are.

It is easy to understand why Blacks will overwhelmingly for for BHO. They see him as one of their own. Heck, I voted for Jimmie Carter because he was a farmer but we all know how that turned out.

It has always been a mystery to me why Blacks and Jews overwhelmingly vote for a party that continually betrays them, keeping them dependent on a system of entitlement that totally lacks a provision for empowering individuals according to their abilities.

As long as the Black Community continues to buy in to Socialism, they will never experience the individual liberty that liberal solutions has denied them.

Common Sense Politics
Americans of African descent have a long and respectful list of contributions to what makes America great. The democrats, once again, are taking for granted, that they have this vote in their pocket. I challenge each of these Americans to go to http://www.nationalblackrepublicans.com and read some of their well written articles. Please take the HISTORY TEST of the democratic party. Americans of African descent are not ignorant, 2nd class citizens. They have made to many inroads into our society to allow them to kneel before a world governed by the UN or a foreign religion that demands they surrender their cultural identity to just be lumped in to one of the ignorant masses serving a central government. Juneteenth, Cinco de Mayo, the Asian New year, St Patricks Day,October Fest, and a multitude of others are to be celebrated and respected by all Americans. A socialist government will not allow such diversity. Look at the history of socialism, diversity has no place in its rules. What makes the democrats think Americans of African descent would ignore their pride in being who they are and kneel before socialism, give up their religion and culture to Islamist, all in the name of the good of the world. I think not!

Excuse me, but
Condi Rice, Justice Thomas, JC Watts, Michael Steele, Colin Powell, are all conservatives and they do now or have recently served "on the hill." I'm tired of the attitude that a politician is not considered black unless s/he is liberal. This is nonsense. It is a mandate to pick up one's marching orders. And who is giving these orders? The race pimps: Sharpton, Jackson, et al. Wake up, folks. It was the Republicans who carried the Civil Rights Act over the protests of Al Gore, Sr. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. It was a Republican President that appointed the first two black Secretaries of State. And what was it that constituted Martin Luther King's dream? That man would be judged by the "content of his character, not the color of his skin."

STAND AND ANSWER BRYCE
Enough of this prattling. Were do you stand?
1. ABORTION - wrong. Partial birth abortion -- barbaric.
2. SCHOOL CHOICE - where do elected Dems send their kids?
3. TAXES - aren't your taxes high enough? Dems will raise them.
4. SOCIAL SECURITY- Dems voted no to overhaul Social Secirity
5. TAXING AND PUNISHING BIG BUSINESS -- you either own your business or you work for some that does.
6. JOBS - I'm reading a book where a guy named Paul said if a man will not work, he will not eat. He also says that you ought to work and have an occupation so that you would not have to be dependent on anybody. Its a good book that also says that ALL things work together for good, for those that love God, for those that are called according to his purpose. ALL things, Bryce. Your thing and my thing. We want the same thing, but we disagree on how to get it done. Enough divisive rhetoric, okay my brother?

Tom
I recently raised the issue of LBJ and the Dixiecrats with a neighbor who was a civil rights activists. I asked her why she voted for Johnson when the most vocal opposition to the legislation was from southern Dems.

Her response was that she suspected in her heart of that Johnson was a racist, but the legislation he supported and Goldwater opposed stripped the power of the individual to act upon their prejudice.

Goldwater's vote against civil rights legislation, followed in '66 and '68 by the Southern strategy pretty much codified the racial divide in politics we see today.

Ken Mehlmum briefly showed promise that the trend could be reversed, but the party squandered the window he created.

Bryce
"For all of your rhetoric, the Dems have made a black man the leader of the party, while the GOP is extending its' run of zero black representation on the Hill by at least two more years. Are they trying for a record?"

Last time I checked there weren't any prominent black conservatives that wanted to run for POTUS. But there are MANY black libs that qualified for high ranking cabinet posts under Clinton. Why weren't they appointed? Why is the SOLE black USSC justice a conservative? Why was the FIRST black USSC justice a black conservative? Is BHO really the "leader of the party"? I thought that the DNC head was white? Hmmm or does his current status MAKE him leader in your eyes? Don't you see? You are a TESTAMENT to what is wrong. Your claims that the Dems "made" BHO their "leader" PROVES what we're saying here all along. It insinuates that if not for the rest of the Dem party, BHO would be nothing despite his merits. Classic dependancy on a higher power. Colin Powell was urged to run for POTUS LONG before BHO was even KNOWN, he turned it down. Condi Rice is being pursued to run, she also isn't interested at this time. Your points are POORLY supported by the facts Bryce.
Funny how the party of the seccessionists (dems) is now viewed over the party of the Abolitionists(repubs) SOLELY because of rhetoric.

Lead:
Wow! You are direct. Don't beat about the bush, how do you really feel? ;)

Ropati
I'm referring to elected representation on the Hill. The examples you state are appointees who serve at the discretion of the President.

And let me say here as I have said repeatedly; George Bush has been a shining example of race neutrality in his appointments.

Bryce
Regardless of the percaption of your friend regarding LBJ the fact remains that if not for Repubicans, civil rights was a dead issue after 11/23/63. I don't have to ask because I remember and I have informed myself by research. Those who deny racism no longer exists are wrong but it does so in large part due those who think like Jessie Jackson & BHO. The issue isn't with Obama's skin color it's with his marxist views which benefit NOBODY but his marxist enablers. You said it yourself when you said how they "made him leader of the party". Tell me, would he still be leader if he loat popularity with voters? Are we supposed to vote for who's most popular OR most qualified? With regards to BHO we have only his words and past actions to judge him by. If he touted TRUE American ideals and stopped pushing his global society agenda I could/would vote for him. His skin color is IRRELEVANT to me but HE insists the voter should make it an issue with his rhetoric. Sorry but I vote on merit, not guilt. My ancestors fought on the side of the union and I was raised to be color blind. I promote people under me professionally not by color but by merit/accomplishment. I don't care if BHO were PURPLE if he stood for what I know make this country great, he doesn't.

Tom
The reason there is black Democratic representation on the Hill is because since the post WWII era the Dems have made minority recruitment a priority.

What is puzzling is that when the GOP has made similar efforts, it has paid off. In 1994 the GOP put forth 14 black candidates, 2 won. But as J.C. Watts has stated with some bitterness, the efforts of the few like Ken Mehlmum were not institutional, and what momentum had been gained was quickly lost.

From whitey
I am not anti black but I am very anti Liberal (or in this case socialist) Blacks need to wake up its the Lib's and the professional racists that are keeping them down.

bryce 2
but in your own state of micigan we see a ready example what happens when a city like detroit falls under the leadership of blacks. Coleman young and now the indicted mayor all prove that they lack all clues about governing and making a city work.

That detroit is more akin to a third world country is a valid criticism that victim politics fails all it's citizens.

In may the messiah was citing kilpatrick as the type of dynmaic leader that blacks could look to in the future. This is even after kilpatrick had already been been indicted for his role in abusing the police force and the city paying damages exceeding $10 million dollars.

Then kilpatrick claims he goes to church and the people there called him by the n bomb. The implication being white racists were calling him that when in fact it was his fellow blacks.

But even the media can't report the facts and fails to mention that kilpatrick is nothing more than a corrupt dim who is in trouble because of his own disregard for the law.

But if your messiah is this great unifier why did he need to resort to using affirmative action to get into college when both parents were college grads plus he attended priced prep schools. It seems that he needed his race to get the preferential treatment.

But that is the common cry from far too many blacks, that without affirmative action they can't succeed. I guess that explains why detroit, with a black board of education and black teachers has a 70% illiteracy rate.

Tom
I'm a liberal, I'm going to vote for the candidate whose positions are closest to mine. As much as I admire and respect McCain, he doesn't share my point of view on a host of issues.

For me at least, the breaking of the color barrier is just icing on the cake.

Bryce a couple questions
As a black man what do you see as the accomplishments that dems have made over the past 40 years in uplifting blacks?

Has the great society welfare state enhanced blacks?

Have churches such as Trinity UCC which preach black victimhood and hate for ole whitey made the ghettos places of tranquility even between blacks?

What in your opinion has caused the 80% out of wedlock babies in the black ghetto?

Do you see the breakdown of the black family as the most basic of all problems in the ghetto?

Which party has contributed most to this problem?

Sorry could not stop at just two!

Great article, Star!
I am so sick and tired of the "white" and "black" and, the term "race"! There is only one RACE and that is of the human variety. Let's look at an "american" and one with true moral qualities and vote for that person.
Hopefully, it would be an individual that totally respects life and believes in the all loving God and Creator of everything and everyone!!

Keep up the great job Star!!!

By the way Tom
How many southern Republicans voted in favor of the legislation?

Another question Tom
Where was the opposition to civil rights legislation from outside the south based? With the Dems or the GOP?

OrpheusMay
Well said!

Bryce again
True. cabinet membera are appointed and fired by the administration but that STILL doesn't answer the question as to WHY haven't prominent blacks held high cabinet posts durning Dem administrations. Appointing someone to a cabinet post is show of CONFIDENCE in their ability to carry out policy and accurately/intelligently inform the president. The posts held by Rice and Powell are NOT posts for yes men but responsible statesmen/women entrusted with overseeing policy. Sec of Defense is THE MAIN advisor to the POTUS with regards to military fitness and national security. Sec. Of State is THE MAIN advisor/prosecuter of foreign policy, BOTH very important/prestigious posts. Why no blacks during Carter or Clinton? You can spin the facts all you like but you do so in obvious denial of GLARING realities. FACT: The democrats were the party that opposed civil rights legislation and tried VERY hard to blook it's passage. FACT: If not for congressional REPUBLICANS said policy was a DEAD ISSUE. Add to that the FACT: that congressional Republicans ADDED FURTHER RIGHTS for minorities before passing the resolutions. Blacks have been LIED to for 4 decades with MYTHS based on propaganda and phoney phobias about conservatives. The liberals have succeeded in convincing the majority of blacks that without them, THEY (blacks) would still be defacto slaves. Only by the grace and kindness (not the hard work/tencity of blacks themselves) do blacks succeed. Keep on believing that.

RECOMMENDATION FOR YOU, BRYCE....
....from one Black to another. I have given you two opportunities to:
1. Respond to two instances of my invoking God into this discussion
2. Respond to the issues without bringing up race
....and you seemingly have declined to respond without doing so. Take it from a reformed race card player, I've played them every kind of which way and I know it when someone is dealing them to me. Instead of talking solely about the issues, you pick one thing out of someone's argument, slant it to race, and usually the other party backs down due to guilt. I am not backing down, my friend. No guilt here. I have some books I'd like to recommend for you to read.
1. The Bible (various authors)
2. Black Rednecks and White Liberals (Sowell)
3. They Think You're Stupid (Cain)
4. Setting the Record Straight: American History in Black and White (Barton)
5. Unfounded Loyalty (Perryman)
Warning! These books have been known to change people's thinking.

Answer to Bryce
You'll be surprised to find that outside the south MANY Democrats opposed civil rights legislation. Not all but many. Most because they were afraid to anger constituents back home. Bryce let me tell you something. Racism does NOT end at the Mason/Dixon line. My father was from Wisconsin and HE told me about how there was a sign on the edge of town saying "N----r don't let the sun set on your A$$ in this town". This is not in Alabama or Mississippii but in WISCONSIN. It is a popular myth on the left that racism only exists in the Southern US. NONSENSE. States as far north as Maryland were sympathetic to the southern cause but remained neutral. You see, hate and stupidity knows no boundaries. True, the south had most of the racists in this country at one time but NOWHERE NEAR all of them. Trying to cling to the belief that only "Dixiecrats" opposed civil rights is once again buying into the myth that is so prevelant today.

Jag
Black accomplishment through the Dems-Elected representation at, hopefully soon, all levels of government.

Great Society-Indeed a crutch, but its' initiation halved rates of black poverty and literacy that had stood for a hundred years. I'm not defending its' continuation.

Trintity and others- An abomination. Racist and incindiery. Wright in particular is a self important, racist, idiot.

Illegitimate Births- Way complicated for this forum. Ulitmately of it comes down to personal responsibilty, but is also based in part on the demunication of the black families since their arrival at Jamestown. Please note that rate of black illegitimacy have been double that of whites since records were kept.

BLACK LIBERALS DON'T SEE THEMSELVES

....AS VICTIMS ...to use a term I first encountered when I was in the Army ...they see themselves as being "slick" ...they are putting one over on the man ...outfoxing Mr. Charlie ...they are getting something for nothing (just their vote) ...

.....In the Army when work details were assigned, the prevalent attitude among most blacks (any many whites) was to shirk their duty and to get by doing as little actual work as possible ...those who were most skilled at this were held in high esteem by their peers ...

.....This is a Liberal trait per se, and not representative of all blacks, only to all blacks who vote for Democrats .....COLOSSUS

Jag cont'd
As to your remaining points, it really is all about the individual and their sense of responsibilty.

Tom
I have no way of knowing what is in the heart of men, nor do you. When it comes to the issue of civil rights legislation and the two parties the rubic is the vote.

Again, which party outside of the south opposed the legislation, Dem or the GOP?

WANDERING FOR 40 YEARS, BRYCE.
Tom from TX brought up a point that I made a over an hour ago, that you have not responded to, Bryce. I made a comment on how Blacks were better off socially and economically in the 1960s than we are now. The facts are overwhelming. Employment, nuclear families, out of wedlock birth rates, etc. ..... check it out. Anyway......it has been over 40 years of wandering under liberal policies, save an occasional conservative (actually there has only been one TRUE conservative during this time). Forty years of wandering in the wilderness is enough, don't you think? Forty years, Bryce. Does that number have ANY significance to you?

OrpheusMay
Your rhetoric is mute in light of the factual evidence.

FACT:There is no such thing as a black GOP voice in nationally elected government. It simply doesn't exists, has not existed since 2002, and will not until at least 2010.

You know what Bryce?
You say you identify with liberal views so I fully support your voting on your convictions. Afterall that IS the American way and YOU ARE an American (even if I disagree with you and suspect your reasons). BY all means vote for BHO but before you do ask yourself some very hard questions such as:

1)Exactly what have liberals done for minorities in this country in the last 4 decades?

2)Have any of their policies advanced the social standing of blacks and other minorities.

3) Who was the last prominent black or minority that held a posision of national trust during Dem administration?

4) How well did welfare work in erradicating the poor? What are it's remaining effects?

5) How well has the liberal approach to education worked for ANYONE, not just minorities?

6) Why must liberals point to myths about their philosopbical oppoenents to gain voters rather than the realities of their past policies?

Answer those questions HONESTLY and tell me how well you think liberal policies have worked for you or this country and why you still favor them.

Tom here's a clue
One of the non-southern GOP opponents was the Presidential nominee in '64.

Does that help?

Black double standard
OK, so John Edwards is being castigated for his "indiscretion", and will not attend the Democrat convention. You can bet the house however, on Jesse Jackson being there.

This attitude of blacks as victims allows this double standard. How sad that so many blacks do not see how they are being manipulated; how they are being taught that when a black man fathers a "love-child", it is ok because he is black. What else would you expect from him? The white guy of course, is more intelligent and more moral, so he will be banned for his sin.

Perhaps someday the black community will wake up to this deception and realize that the liberal Democrat philosophy is all about power for the elites, not the betterment of the nation, black and white. Once they begin to vote for real principles, they will see the changes occur in the black community.

Continuing to vote for more big government will not help the black community escape the poverty, crime, drop out rate, and number out of wedlock births that are harming black people.

The real solution is to not vote for any of the elites in either major party. The entire election process has been engineered to keep power in the hands of the elites. This scam is promoted by the DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda machines for that purpose.

If you care to see how the elites have managed this, I urge you to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. It is the one place where this myth is truly exposed for what it is. Check it out, why not? The elites have robbed us of our inheritance, and we need to reclaim it now in this election! Thanks, Joe

FWife-OMay-Lolo-Tom-Others
"Things won't change until blacks begin to see that these same liberal politics and attitudes are at the root of their problems today."

The above is the final paragraph in Star’s Column. Replace “blacks” with “union labor” and you have ANOTHER voting bloc that Liberals have deceived lo these many years. Look at West Virginia, the economy is in the crapper, but unless Byrd and/or Rockefeller are caught with a live boy or a dead girl, they WILL die in office.

Actually Tom
For a change, this time out I'm pretty much a single issue voter. For me it's all about retaining a balance on the Supreme Court.

THE LONG AND SHORT OF IT, BRYCE.
Still no response from you on the issues. Thanks Bryce. I site you as an example of what is wrong with the left. Long on rhetoric and emotion, short on logic and reason.

Question for bryce
Where are you getting your information on JC Watts? I have read several articles, and they are not backing up what you are saying.

You seem impressed that the Dems have a black man heading up the ticket, but you make no mention that he is woefully unqualified for the office he seeks. In a year that the dems should have walked away with the presidency, your guy will most likely lose. The more people find out about Obama, the less they like him. It has nothing to do with the color of his skin, either.

OrpheusMay
Bull. In the south of the early sixties blacks did not have the fundamental rights of citizenship, and were murdered, by local governments, for even attempting to excercise their rights. Further the final outcome of any aspirations a black had in the sixties was determined by the acquiescence of the larger culture and not by the merits of the individual.

Sorry, there is no argument justifying your rosy view of American apartheid.

Bryce
for someone that refuses to answer his detractors questions you sure ask alot of questions! I answered you already regarding which party OUTSIDE or INSIDE the south, REPUBLICANS by 73% FAVORED civil rights legislation. Democrats OPPOSED it except for some nothern democrats and LBJ, a southerner. Are you aware that it wasn't some yankee politican that RUTHLESSLY attacked/eradicated the KKK but LBJ? Funny how it took a "racist southerner" to eradicate the Klu Klux Klan but then again, "Dixiecrats" are ALL racists right? Tell me Bryce, it was a popular notion at one time that the Earth was flat, do people still believe that? EDUCATE YOURSELF from sources OUTSIDE your political circle then judge for yourself what the truth is. OrpheusMay speaks from EXPERIENCE not party affiliation as you do. Your remarks REEK of popular myth, misinformation, and outright LIES perpetrated AND invented by the very party you support. I suspect you support BHO because he is black and don't really know what his true political philosophy is. Europeans ignored Hitler's "Mein Kampf" and his "plans" for European Jewry until it was too late. You claim you "can't see into the hearts of men" but you CAN ignore what they say in your zeal to elect a man based SOLELY on his skin color!! Now I ask you Bryce, WHO is acting like a racist now? If you truly respect McCain it must be because of his accomplishments, what has BHO accomplished that garners your vote? His skin color is THE only possible reason OTHEREWISE you are a supporter of an Elitist Socialist who's ideas of a "global coummunity" you cannot or will not understand. Educate yourself Bryce. Knowledge is more powerful than rhetoric.

OrpheusMay
I have been discussing the facts on the ground which clearly demonstrate that on the proposition that race is no longer an impediment to nationally elected office, the Dems walk the walk, the GOP talks the talk.

DOTTIE - WATTS info -- Don't tell Bryce
In 1994, JC Watts was elected to the U.S House of Representatives by winning Oklahoma's mostly white 4th District. This info is in his book "What Color is a Conservative?" How many of Black Dems on the hill (as Bryce continually points to) were elected in majority white districts? Okay, thats enough slopping around in the race issue for me. I feel like I gotta go take a shower.

From J.C. Watts
Who should know something about the issue:

"I am grateful for what Ken Mehlman did when he was RNC chairman, but I knew it wouldn't last-that was one person. I've never gotten the impression that it was instituionalized."

The lack of a single black GOP voice on the Hill since Watts' departure in 2002 pretty much confirms his impressions.

Dottie makes my point
Watt's won because at that time the GOP was expanding its' minority outreach and actively recruiting candidates. And guess what, as Dottie points out, the got results.

Today the effort amounts to rheortic.

GOVT MURDERING BLACKS IN THE 60s?
Hey Bryce.....it was the Democrat party that was so outwardly hostile toward Blacks in the 60s. Sorry to be the one to tell you that.

Tom
Goldwater, you remember him the guy at the top of the ticket in '64, voted against the legislation.

bryce1
Apparently few people know that the Democrats were responsible for keeping the blacks from voting. From owning property and having the same Constitutional rights as white. It was the Republicans that tried time and time again to make changes, effording blacks to vote, own property and live as free Americans.
It just might change peoples concepts on the race/color issue if we thought of each other as different shades of brown.
You see, there are no truely black people, nor are there any truely white people but just shades of brown.
And it is the Democrats and the Liberals that support every ungodly law and action that has infected the United States. Furthermore, it is the Liberals and their agenda that should take responsibilty for the wantom crime that has overtaken us.
You might consider the reason (so called) blacks (a larger percentage) take to the Democratic Party. It has more to do with regional politics than anything else.
For anyone to say they vote a straight party ticket goes to show the mentality of some people. I look as the person (because in all reality nearly every politician is a thief and a cheat) and look at the issues they support.
I am against abortion and support the death penalty. It's too bad the death isn't used more often and for crimes other than captial murder.

Tom for all of your rhetoric
Can you dispute the fact that there is no such thing as a nationally elected black Republican, that none have existed since '02, and that none will exists until at least 2010?

YOU ARE RIGHT ON ONE THING, BRYCE....
....JC Watts is disappointed in the GOP. So am I. But JC Watts, like me, is very conservative and we don't like how the GOP has strayed from its conservative ideals. But JC Watts, like me, is still a conservative, and therefore, still will vote Republican.

Have to run errands
Hope everyone is here when I return.

PLEASE STOP AT BORDERS BOOKSTORE, BRYCE.
Take my list of recommended reading with you. I'll check back with you in a few months.

Huh
Is the complaint that the Times confused black politics for Liberal black politics, or that black politics is so overwhelmingly liberal black politics? The second complaint pretty completely undermines the first.

Given that Kerry got 88% of the black vote, it is hardly misleading of the Times to focus on democratic black leaders. Is Star calling for affirmative action for republican black leaders?

Presumably republicans will get a higher percentage of black votes when they support policies that more black voters support.

But it is an interesting question whether this new generation of black politicians whose appeal is strong outside of the black communities is in fact replacing the older black voices, or coexisting with them.

This article does not do much to shed light on that question because it is simply focused on the writers complaint that blacks are too liberal for her tastes.

Candidates
There are a number of candidates (okay, LOTS of them), that I would prefer to John McLame. Some of them are black, and two of them would have been in my top five before the primaries even began. They are J.C. Watts and Michael Steele.

Presumtive and Presumptous...
BHO is both for his party's nomination and the presidency of the US. He's an empty vessel that that good press has propelled to stardom.

Star hit the nail on the head. I wish she were in the forefront of conservative republican politics. Her voice would have greater influence in the ongoing conversation of Blacks in today's political atmosphere.

Uncle Toms???
Rush calls it the NAALCP...National Association For The Advancement Of Liberal Colored People. How right that is.

Folks wonder why there are no Republican blacks in office. Most blacks are Democrats. Only they know why.I have my take on it,but I am not black and won't try to speak for them.

There are many conservative blacks who are Republicans. They should run for high office,in my opinion.

Most probably don't want to be demonized by their Democrat brothers, who would surely fight them much harder than they would a white.

Democrats hate blacks who 'stray off the farm'. They are Uncle Toms and the lowest form of humanity, according to Dems. Conservatives would support them if they would give it a go.

ROWLY
The GOP would do well to push a conservative for POTUS. I'll take that as a first step. This centrism over the last few years is not going to cut it. I'll take ANY conservative.....Black, White, or otherwise.

Black Politics
Is there really such a thing as "black politics"? In my view there are issues important/unique to the black community but is that really Black Politics? The use of the term intimates that somehow the plight of the black American differs from that of the white or yellow or brown American. I don't recall there existing a special set of laws pretaining to one certain skin color. Sure there is Affirmative Action (which was supposed to benefit those seen as overlooked) in America but that isn't "black politics". The very fact that the left uses the term indicates what they mean when they refer to it. In other words "Black Politics" is taking issues important to blacks and politicizing them to the liberals benefit. Bryce confessed to being a "one issue" voter this time out. He claims it's for USSC appointees. First of all, the USSC is NOT a legislative arm of the government. It's role is that of interpretor of existing legislation regarding said legislation's validity according to the constitution. Despite the actions of recent liberal justices, it is NOT their right to legislate from the bench. If it were then we would have a dictatorship of 5 kings/queens rather than one. I think Bryce suffers from 2 very real problems with regards to his supporting socialists and their agenda. First he has no life experience or real idea exactly what Socialism is and two he practices an apathetic approach to educating himself outside the confines of his political affiliation. Not all Nazis hated Jews, but ALL Nazis believed in Hitler's infallibility as "Fuhrer". Bryce by accepting someone to do his thinking/research for him allows himself to be misled, indeed he invites it to happen. The Democratic party is the SOLE perpetrator of "black politics". A simple cursory look at their words is proof how they use issues important to blacks and other minorities to advance their myth as the "caring" party.

There is a Real Danger

There is a Real Danger in judging a 'group' of people by one or a few people.

Judging ALL Blacks by Obama or Sharpton is as empty headed as judging ALL females by Nancy Pelosi or Paris Hilton - as empty headed as judging ALL men by Bill Clinton or John Edwards.

We are a society that lives in a 'Shock Value' and 'Bad News'. During Katrina all attention was placed on Looting and those who were suffering because Government leaders had failed miserably.

The focus of who was at fault was shifted from the 'Real' culprits of local and state Democratic government leaders to Pres Bush and the Federal Government.

The 'Real Danger' is when people judge by 'intuition and feelings' - knee jerk reactions - instead of facts, logic and reason.

Democrats had successfully blocked the 2001 Bush energy plan which contained 540 million dollars to shore up levees in New Orleans.

The Posse Comitatus Act passed by Congress in 1878 prevents a president from sending federal troops to a state without the governor’s consent.

The Democratic Governor of Louisiana refused to cooperate with President Bush when the president asked for her consent to begin a mandatory evacuation four days before the storm.

The Democrats in the Louisiana homeland security office also refused to let the Red Cross bring truckloads of food, water and supplies to the Superdome.

There is a real danger in making 'snap judments' NOT based on facts, logic and reason.

I am on my feet CHEERING at your intelligent, eloquently-expressed responses to bryce1 -- you have presented your cases well, but, alas, it seems as though you're beating your heads against a brick wall! Bryce1 doesn't WANT to hear reasoned, well-researched and documented data and information; he hasn't been able to intelligently refute ONE BIT OF EVIDENCE that either of you has presented in your arguments, but, instead, prefers to chant the liberal mantras which are so deeply and hopelessly ingrained into his thought processes, and he has no qualms about surrendering his precious vote to any incompetent boob with a "D" after his name on the ballot, despite his candidate's GLARING lack of experience and competence to assume the leadership of this nation and of the free world. Intellectual laziness at its best....I seriously fear for this nation. :o(

as a black conservative
...and a member of the GOP since 1998, I can tell you that the Republicans have a very long way to go. I've worked with the Republican outreach groups for years trying to relay the conservative message to those groups that haven't traditionally been Republican.

However, the message gets lost when the party you are promoting isn't very conservative and is just as liberal as the alternative. It's a tough sell when spending is at an all time high and Republicans want to tap phones and disregard the Constitution. Equally liberal. They just have different priorities and allegiances.

I can also tell you for a fact that there were plenty of qualified black conservative candidates seeking office. However, these candidates did not get anywhere near the support they needed from national party to have a successful campaign.

There were four black Republican Senatorial candidates running in '06. Only Lynn Swann was able to gather any support from the national party. Even longtime members like Steele and Blackwell were on their own in their respective races. Herman Cain was almost on an island.

All that being said, we aren't going to start voting for tax hikes and socialist policy. We have to simply work harder to elect those of similar thought. Hopefully, the national party will eventually follow.

Bryce
You call facts "rhetoric"? You admit to the facts but refer to them as "rhetoric", do you know what rhetorical means? While you are out running errands stop off at the local public library and read about the civil rights movemnet and other near modern issues regarded as important to minorities, blacks included. Read for yourself how your party used "rhetoric" to advance the notion of "equal but seperate" and how that notion was NOT only observed below the Mason/Dixon line. I sense that you have become frustrated because the facts do not support your beliefs. Indocrination is indeed a tough nut to crack. You must feel kind of dizzy at times when you are honest with yourself and realize that LITTLE of what you were taught during your indocrination has supporing historical facts. Your consistently pointing to Goldwater and his wife as your SOLE proof of conservative hatred is PALTRY at best. You continue to point out how no black conservatives have been elected to the hill since 2002. Does that mean conservatives were only racists since then? You offer no REAL proof to support your beliefs, only abstract percieved references of conservatives ignoring the black voice and Barry Goldwater. Tell me my Leninist disciple how many blacks (prior to BHO) were in a position of power EVER since the civil war? Not just 3002 but the 130+ years SINCE THEN? You love to find one percaption and harp on but PLEASE enlighten us on the track record of the Democratic party since the abolition of slavery. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Don
The problem for Republicans is that those people who know that the democrats were the party that tried to keep blacks from voting happen to be the same people that know that when democrats repudiated such techniques the Republicans happily stepped in to endorse them.

The democrats who tried to keep blacks from voting were people like Thurmond and Helms who then became the Republicans and become the dominant movers in the Republican party.

For democrats the history of southern democrats and race is an embarassing one. But for Republicans it is not so much history. Which is why the black vote for republicans is so poor.

So glad YOU said it, Ms. Parker
Since only black people are allowed to point out truthful criticisms of other blacks, thank you for taking the initiative with this column. If nothing else you took the wind out of the sails of those who challenge any negative discussion about blacks by crying, 'racist!' Their goal is always to prevent any real discussion. At least now we can have an open debate.

Black Conservatives

Since this article is about 'race' I will comment regarding race.

Over 2.6 million black Americans voted conservative in the last Presidential elaection.

These American citizens are standing for 'personal' character, self-determination and a chance at the American way of life for themselves and families.

They have been castigated by others of their skin color and are looked at by many 'whites' as 'part of the black problem'.

When I was a young man I remember hearing the words of Dr King when he said 'I have a dream that someday my four little children will be judged not by the color of their skin but by the content of their character'.

I remember thinking maybe it is possible for America to have the same rights and protections for every American citizen under the Constitution and Bill of Rights - no more - no less.

Them along came the nay-sayers and the 'Race Hustlers' that destroyed the vision that Dr King had for America.

I am still optimistic that someday all Americans will share the same rights and protections.

Remember a government that does NOT go by rule of law and grants rights to one group or 'collective' that the rest of the individual American citizen does NOT have, can just as easily take it away.

Michael Steele is one of the finest political minds in our country, regardless of skin color or political affiliation.

However, national party chose not to support his candidacy. I think that your state, the GOP and our country as a whole is worse off because of it.

When the Marylanders decided to host the presidential debate at a traditionally black campus, the top 4 GOP candidates decided not to attend. Michael Steele was a co-host of the event and had a great message for those in attendance.

Until the GOP realizes the stupidity of actions like these, we'll always concede the black vote to the Democrats.

Thank you for your support of conservative ideals and values in this country. Don't lose heart!!!

If the likes of Thomas Sowell or Michael Steele (I donated to his campaign when he was running for the Senate), -- or even ORPHEUSMAY !!! ;o) -- EVER bless this country with a run for office, I feel CERTAIN that there are MANY registered Republicans who will RUN, not WALK, to their polling place to "pull the lever" for them (I'm giving away my age, aren't I?). I'd love to be EXCITED about a candidate again, rather than just voting for the lesser of two evils (McCain chapped my hide with his stand on the illegal immigration issue, but I'm going to hold my nose...) -- if you have any clout with any of the aforementioned "potentials," please BRING 'EM ON!!!

Thank you Independent
As I said in an earlier post, look at the comments here. Why would I, or the 76% of black people who receive no public assistance, choose to align myself with a party that sees me as caring about little more than government cheese.

R.A.M. good post at 1:47 pm

All conservatives need to remember that Liberal policies, starting with Woodrow Wilson have been 'chipping' away at the 'Rights and Freedoms' of every American citizen.

We like minded citizens need to remember some simple things and speak out about them.

1) The individual American Citizen is the 'real minority' in America.

2) There is NO 'silver bullet' for our present dilemma in government.

3) One person cannot turn the present government 'around' but one person can take us deeper into the abyss.

4) We need conservatives at the lowest levels, especially school boards etc.

oldsocialworker, a black lady from NJ, who posts here often, tells 'hair raising' stories about the steady encroachment of the Liberal agenda.

I remember a post she made not long ago where NJ is making public schools into community centers. She said parents were actually coming to schools dressed in pajamas and nightgowns to eat at the school cafeterias.

She is a lone voice and takes much ridicule and disdain when she speaks out truth. I always try to encourage her and remind her she should work to save as many children as she can. She has told stories that will give one nightmares about what some of the children go through in the name of 'government help'.

We WILL LOSE a whole generation of black children if more like her do not fight this liberal madness.

oldsocialworker is an American hero to me! !

She suffers from arthiritis and could retire but she 'fights the good fight and is determined to finish the race'.

God Bless the American Hero!

Black Crime
I am taking the liberty of re-posting a comment by oldsocialworker about black crime:

"Subject: Its difficult to quantify
a multi-level value shift. Corrections has become very big business, and inmates can certainly get their college degrees while incarcerated, so education is not separate from corrections .

America, overall, is not at all tough on crime, which is why the recidivism rate is astonishingly high and jails end up overcrowded.

We create career criminals and (literally colonies of crimials) by enabling them through constant psych intervention, ridiculous loopholes, incessant "helping" those who rather like committing crimes.

We have a much higher tolerance of and tendency to redefine criminal behavior due to the chronic state of what I call displaced compassion and political correctness. As a result, many who choose to live lifestyles of crime and violence now feel entitled to it, and the average spectator looks at certain populations, such as some black communities, as victims.

Victims of political correctness and social experimentation, yes, but not oppression and the brand of racism the pc lot are deluded into ascribing to.

Statistics of what crimes are up or down, demographics of crime and incarceration indicate nothing relevant; and therefore mean nothing where the rubber meets the road.

Look at the overall direction of society, and especially the conditions of communities/institutions governed by politically correct thought and ideology.

There's all the information needed." oldsocialworker

black racism
You notice that the blacks said they would vote for a black man over a white man,but this also means he has to be a liberal. If a white person says he is only going to vote for a white man he is called a racist

bryce
so now you claim that only some 9 million or so of the blacks are receiving govt assistance.I guess this is the same percentage that is also committing all the crimes, primarily against other blacks and having all those babies out of wedlock and are dropping out of school and are the functionly illiterate.

Than why aren't the other 76% of blacks doing more to help their fellow blacks escape the trap they find themselves trapped in. Since blacks already maintain whites are at heart racists and keep putting up barriers that keep blacks from achieving, it seems that blacks are likewise just as heartless and uncaring as they acuse repubs of.

But I guess that means with so few blacks now on the public dole, we will see the end of affirmative action and all govt handouts.

But if blacks are so successful why are marriage rates so low and out of wedlock births so high.

You claims don't seem to match up with the high numbers of failures and wasted lives that persist amongst blacks

Discrimination
I'd be curious about something. That 70% of surveyed blacks who believe that they frequently or almost always face discrimination in getting a job or a place to live, how do you know?

Seriously, how do you know it was discrimination?

I'm not saying that discrimination never happens, that would be idiotic. But what's the criteria for discrimination? Is it when a white person gets a job that a black person didn't? Was the black person qualified for the job? Was he more qualified than the white person? If it was close, did the black person get along with the prospective supervisor? Does the simple act of giving a job to a white instead of a black automatically entail discrimination?

Discrimination: Hypothetical question
Here's a hypothetical: You are a hiring manager, and you are interviewing candidates for a job in an office environment. The job does not require specialized knowledge, but management skills, people skills, and communications skills are necessary. You have two candidates to choose. One, a black man, is in his early 30s, has a degree from the University of Phoenix (from which I graduated earlier this year), and about 10 years of experience in various and sundry jobs, not all of which were in office environments. The other is a white, retired 33-year Navy Master Chief Petty Officer who has supervised or managed sailors for 25 of those years, has given briefings at the Pentagon while serving as the senior enlisted man in his career field, and has served as the Command Master Chief (the senior enlisted member) on an Aircraft Carrier but he has no college degree.

Who do you pick?

If racism
means favoring ones own race then I submit that ALL people tend to be racists.

So what?

For whites only, this is a crime.

Why?

Conservatives do Not like Black People
How many of you people have black friends? Every black person I know have a white friend. And all of their white friends are Democrats. Why do Liberals have more black friends than Conservatives? From the comments on townhall.com, I think that you conservatives fear or hate black people.

It's funny how you ignorant people think most black people want government handouts.

Please educate yourself before commenting on issues you know nothing about.

Go and befriend a black person.

Hey, Retired Geek!
Thanks for the re-posting! I've not had alot of time on TH this summer because I'm repainting the entire interior of my house, including dealing with popped nails and repairing seams. I do hate spackle dust! Then there's the summer programs that have just wound down. Its amazing, even my most "poor" go on vacations I could never afford!

I find there is a confluence of obstacles when it comes to changing the traditional view in black politics. One is the "new guard" in social services tend to be painfully misinformed younger people (or financially supported women who work "for meaning") who seem to think nothing has been done in the social welfare world until they showed up on the scene. They do their student internships in various agencies and programs, inadvertantly keeping some pretty crappy places (that really need to go away) in operation. Most of these people fall away over a relatively short period of time- but there are ALWAYS more. The newbies, fresh out of university indoctrination, will keep the pc/big gov't solutions turd stirred indefinitely, and these are the people offering front line social services in a variety of capacities.

There's also the indisputable fact that gov't is now big business, so maintaining a type of allied "board of directors"- in the form of communities of perpetual victims- is essential.

Many veteran social workers know this is true, but see that its not going anywhere. We try to help as many people as possible to avoid systems, and they are ALWAYS better off for doing so.

The 'Thhinker' of 'Thinkers'
"If this is a class-ridden society denying "access" to upward mobility to those at the bottom, why is it that immigrants can come here at the bottom and then rise to the top?

One obvious reason is that many poor immigrants come here with very different ambitions and values from that of poor Americans born into our welfare state and imbued with notions growing out of attitudes of dependency and resentments of other people's success.

The fundamental reason that many people do not rise is not that class barriers prevent it but that they do not develop the skills, values and attitudes which cause people to rise.

The liberal welfare state means they don't have to and liberal multiculturalism says they don't need to change their values because one culture is just as good as another. In other words, liberalism is not part of the solution, but part of the problem.

Racism is supposed to put insuperable barriers in the path of non-whites anyway, so why knock yourself out trying? This is another deadly message, especially for the young.

But if immigrants from Korea or India, Vietnamese refugees, and others can come here and move right on up the ladder, despite not being white, why are black and white Americans at the bottom more likely to stay at the bottom?"

It isn't that anyone is insinuating that blacks vote almost stictly liberal because they are stupid, only misled. Don't agree?
Tell me this:
A) What liberal domestic policy has helped inner-city black kids to excel?

B) What liberal policy has helped middle class black families to realize the American dream?

C) How does excessive taxation, wealth redistribution, and government entitltments raise ANYONE'S (including blacks) self image or social standing?

D) What makes white elitist liberals more qualified to know what is good for a black family struggling to survive and prosper than the family themselves?

E) How well has liberal domestic policy worked for black families and other minorities thus far?

F) How does advocating amnesty for illegals benefit the poor and minorities in this country, many of which are minorities?

G) Don't you find it strange that practically a whole ethnic section of this country votes for the SAME party all the time? Are you so naive as to believe just beacuse someone is black, he/she thinks exactly as his/her neighbor does?

H) Isn't singling out blacks for entitlements etc... the same as telling them you don't think they can compete in the job markets?

I) Do you think black parents who's kids attend public schools view the system as working? Remember this is a system the liberals constructed and TRY to maintain.

These are questions minorities should ask themselves before they believe what some politican says about their opponent. BHO is a proponent of MORE OF THE SAME and means to finance it with money taken not only from whites but blacks who work hard to pay for it.

about intractable black liberalism
In addition to service systems fraught with the well-meaning deceived providing front line services to communities full of victims, there is also the issue of incorrect assumed truths. As a rule, I do not discuss politics at work unless asked direct questions. When some co workers find out I have many conservative views and do not like guys like Barack Obama, they are absolutely amazed. They are amazed because most have been taught that conservatives hate gays and minorities, that they don't care about the poor, that they want to make Bill Gates richer, that they are "greedy" and indifferent to human suffering, that they want to destroy the environment, etc... Really stupid, simplistic stuff that completely flies in the face of long demonstrated realities. Many blacks have conservative values, but will not even think of identifying as conservative because of the assumed truths drilled into their heads at a variety of levels.

Now that many communities ARE detroyed, thanks to great society policies and practices, the younger generation experiences the pain and ruin, then turns to the perpetrator for help because they don't know any better. Add pampered, pseudo-educated whites into the mix of the PC and we can be sure none of this LBJ garbage is going away.

my wife hired a black woman who came with great references, impressive resume and a couple of degrees.

It didn't take long before it became apparent that rather than doing the job she was hired for, she was actively trying to bring in the union.

When the administrators heard this they fired her, but the woman then said the reason she was fired was purely racist and that the job needed to hire someone to teach these people how to work with blacks and understand the special needs of blacks at the workplace

Your arguments are ludicrous, absurd, self-serving, and downright idiotic. First of all, your small inner circle of friends is by NO MRANS a yardstick for a whole country OR the white race. I am WHITE as the driven snow but guess what? I was reared by a black woman whom I love to this day depite her untimely passing some years ago. Some of my dearest friends and most respected colleagues and acquaintances are black. I live in a major US city and I have met all different kinds of people, NONE of which I judge by the color of their skin or their ethnic origin. I am a member of a patriotic orgnization for veterans and many of our officers are blacks elected to their positions by whites! GO FIGURE! I am old enough to remember the racism that once permeated this country and I am still subjected to the few remaining racists of today and one thing I can say is that NONE are part of my circle of friends but ALL are Democrats. I'm not saying that some who call themselves Republican aren't racist but what I am saying is that MOST who call themselves Democrats ARE racist from my experience. You attempt to stereotype all conservatives by using but a small sampling(which I doubt is the truth). Stereotyping is the same as proclaiming all blacks are ignorant or all whites are racists. Humans are much more complex than that. My advice to you is find better people to be friends with.

I have 'learned' a lot from you! Do NOT get so busy that you don't post here.

I like getting information from those working in the trenches - you are a valuable resource!

One of my pet peeves is public housing, which in many Cities are nothing more than government owned and operated 'Crime Centers'.

I still think Camden NJ is more dangerous than Bagdhad Iraq.

Many poor and defenseless older citizens live in a virtual prison in their homes because of crime their.

My wife and I have worked since my retirement in helping those who are 'home bound' by either age or physical and mental handicaps.

We are a large group of ethnic backgrounds and political persuasions and age. These people break your heart because most have NO ONE to check on them or care about them. My wife spent over 100 hours last month calling them on the phone and sending them cards.

Some of the younger volunteers check their homes for safety and needed repairs. One of the construction types told us that an elderly lady 94 - invited them in for coffee, he asked her about the Birthday Card she had beside her chair. He said she picked it up and held it to her breast and started crying - she said it was the first card she had rexeived in many years.

The card was sent by my wife.

There is so much we all could do.

Defining Racism
Racism is a arrogant form of bigotry that attempts to use race as an indicator of personal worth.

If a white person refers to a black person as inferior due to race, that white person is a racist.

If a black person refers to a white person as inferior due to race, that black person is a racist also.

If a Catholic refers to a Protestant as inferior due to religious beliefs the Catholic is a religious bigot and vice-versa.

A persons worth should be based on their merits, not their color or religious beliefs. There are Islamic terrorists and there are Christian ones also. Attempting to paint one group with the same brush IS bigotry and no different than racism. The only difference is the criteria used to measure one's worth. If a white person stated that he/she would vote for someone SOLELY because they were white I would consider them a bigot because they believe color alone has merit. The same goes for blacks or other minorities who vote accordingly. Just because conventional racism was white vs black doesn't mean it can't be reversed.

Racism?
I believe most behavior some call racist ,is predjudice. We all have predjudices, but that is not racism.

I have hired hundreds of techs

I have hired hundreds of technical people in my career.

The only thing I have ever been interested in is ability and performance.

The last corporation I worked for before retiring was one of the largest companies of its type in the World.

I was in charge of a rewrite of their Customer service and fraud detection applications.

My fees were set but a large bonus was also a part of the contract based on time and accuracy of the computer programs.

I hired over 50 computer programmers from all over the US and other parts of the world.

I hired strictly on knowledge and experience.

My top programmers ended up being a young woman from India, a black American male from Atlanta and two white hillbilly brothers from Kentucky.

All had IQ's in the 180 up range and all had incredible work ethics.

All races and genders have their fair share of genius and morons.

I was able to retire on the bonus and each one of my four team leaders received a large bonus also.

RG- you and your wife are offering only what people inspired by compassion rather than employment can do; providing personal loving care to others in legitimate need, not enabling destructive people to create ill-conceived "need" (entitlements). My fear is that, over time, we will all be so worn out by the incessant demands/costs of the nanny state that those who take the time and care to volunteer will not be able to. I see this in terms of private contributions already. Public housing?? Big business, as the ever-reelected and now convicted Sharpe James can attest! We have created "passive gulag" colonies thanks to the unwillingless of many to defect politically! Seriously- many public housing ghettos are difficult to escape, very dangerous, run by corrupt bureaucrats, and outright deadly for the most vulnerable.

Definition of Racism

"Racism is the lowest, most crudely primitive form of collectivism.

It is the notion of ascribing moral, social or political significance to a man’s genetic lineage—the notion that a man’s intellectual and characterological traits are produced and transmitted by his internal body chemistry.

Which means, in practice, that a man is to be judged, not by his own character and actions, but by the characters and actions of a collective of ancestors.

Racism claims that the content of a man’s mind (not his cognitive apparatus, but its content) is inherited; that a man’s convictions, values and character are determined before he is born, by physical factors beyond his control.

This is the caveman’s version of the doctrine of innate ideas—or of inherited knowledge—which has been thoroughly refuted by philosophy and science.

Racism is a doctrine of, by and for brutes. It is a barnyard or stock-farm version of collectivism, appropriate to a mentality that differentiates between various breeds of animals, but not between animals and men.

Like every form of determinism, racism invalidates the specific attribute which distinguishes man from all other living species: his rational faculty.

Racism negates two aspects of man’s life: reason and choice, or mind and morality, replacing them with chemical predestination."

Understanding our America
A sizable majority of american blacks live in large cities. A substantial portion of these cities have Democrat administrations. Chicago and San Fransico are spectacular examples.

This environment is in no may conducive to an understanding of our unique system of government. The very freedoms that we enjoy as citizens of this great nation are sytemically denied these urban dwellers.

These cities and their "ghettos" virtually define the "Nanny State". The people there simply can not see The America of The American Dream through the fog of local politics, local gangs, and the self-perpetuation of the supposed Black Leaders such as Jackson, Cone, Wright and others.

Creation of this "underclass" (of voters) has taken tens of years to reach its current state. It will take an act-of-will of gigantic proportions by the entire people of this country to ever make headway against the sheer inertia of this american tragedy.

We are talking "revolution" here

Here is two examples of racism:

Farrakhan is quoted as having said, "The white man is our mortal enemy, and we cannot accept him."

Farrakhan believes "Six-thousand years ago, an evil wizard called Dr. Yacub created the white "race" in a genetic experiment." Whites and blacks do not have the same creator.

Farrakhan boarded a UFO "mother wheel" piloted by 13 youths now orbiting Earth, waiting to destroy the whites and rescue the blacks.

Farrakhan stated that North America will be encapsulated with a "shield" and then the atmosphere will be burned off after the "mother wheel" rescues blacks.

Obama and Mentor Wright awarded this 'racist' with a 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.
------------------------------------------------
Another example of 'racism' by the person who Mentor Wright based his theology on and Obama
sat and listened to over 20 years.

"Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community.

If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him.

The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community. . . .

Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy.

What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love."

...thanks for the laugh of the day! :o)

Dixiecrat=Republican

You are a moron!

JAG CA thanks

I have so noted and I intend to add that to my blog.

Dixiecrat-Repubican
The typical conservophobic, white male hating, close minded liberal who's opinions are based solely on someone else's perception related to him/her by then. He/she diseminates hate based solely on political acclimation and party affiliation. He/she cries about others "hypocrisy" even while he/she espouses his/her own hypocritical tendencies. He/she points to the morality of others while supporting moral equivelence as an alternative. He/she judges all by the actions of a few and refers to others as racists and bigots yet it is he/she exhibting bigotry while doing so. This is a TROLL with nothing meaningful or even remotely relevant to add other than to let it be known he/she despises all who disagree with him/her. You have made it clear that you posess a fermented hatred for those with a different opinion and your point is taken(like anyone cares what a bigot thinks). You are free to TROLL on some other message board and spew your hateful tripe so they too can be repulsed by you lunacy. You are what foreigners refer to when they say "Stupid American". Congrtulations, you are indeed worthy of that moniker.

Voting Democrat....
...for a "typical" black person means you don't have to try in life.

In Detroit, a black city by over 90%, the schools are paid many thousands per student, but the dropout rate is well over 60%. Black kids have kids at a rate of over 70%, and no, they aren't married.

Over half of Detroit's population is on the dole in some form. These people know they don't have to try. It's called, "gettin' ova", meaning, there's a scam to learn, a hustle to work, and a government program that hands out unearned cash.

The above being said, there's also the "black backup plan", towit: affirmative action, quotas, set-asides, preferences, radically lowered standards in hiring, a complete rejection of personal responsibility, and active use of the lawsuit lottery. Again, why should a typical black person try to get ahead in life on their own merits? Where's the incentive?

It's all justified by so-called "reverends" in the ghetto, as demonstrated by Jerimiah Wright, and the toxic-tribal demand of making whites pay for ancestral sufferings. Young feral blacks preying mostly on other blacks? It's white people's fault, and it will take tax money to solve -- in an unending stream.

The Dems promise more of the same, and over 90% of blacks want it that way, even if it kills them, which it does. That's why they vote Democrat.

leewolf your post at 4:29 pm

Leewolf great post - right on!

Tom good posts today! !

Never grow weary in doing Good!

Lady X I told you so !

I told you oldsocialworker is a 'KEEPER'.

All of those "I'm not racist" types
...check out "pro from dover"'s post.

Now, I would point to Detroit as a "perfect storm" of liberal policies and outsourcing. However, I would not classify the issues as being solely the responsibility of the black community.

For him to say that 90% of black "don't even try" is insane. I'm not going to justify this point by debating it.

When asked, only 5% of whites say that they will/will not vote for someone based on their race. However when rephrased, the same whites say that 20% of their white friends/neighbors would not vote for a black person. There's a little bit of the Bradley affect going on here.

Just like I mentioned earlier, even well qualified black conservatives had a tough time getting a fair shake within the party. Until fair-minded whites began to recognize/condemn evil when it presents itself, we'll be fighting these race issues for years to come.

monolithe
AS A CAUCASIAN DEMOCRAT 4TH GENERATION, 4TH GENERATION UNION IM PUZZLED BY THE BLACK MONOLITHIC VOTE FOR LIBERAL CANDIDATES? WHEN I WORKED FOR THE CITY MOST OF OUR COMPLAINTS (BLACK AND WHITE WORKERS)WERE ABOUT DEMOCRATIC INITIATIVES THAT MADE IT INTO LAW. WITH THE LIKES OF SEN. K.K.K. BYRD OF VIRGINIA IN MY PARTY IT LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THE BLACK VOTE HAS A SEIGE MENTALITY. STAR PARKER IS A DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH. UNFORTUNATELY SHE"S SEEN AS A CHEAP STONE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY. SAD, VERY SAD!

Retired Geek
Also,I believe there is more predjudice against class or 'caste',than anything....no matter the color. That too,is not racism.

Why are you people Conservatives?
I bet most of your reasons can be linked back to FEAR, HATE, and GREED.

I give you Abortion. I'm also against Abortion.

Dover
While I can identify with what you're saying I cannot agree that this is "typical" of blacks. Blacks unfortunately have been unfairly stereotyped in this manner but I don't believe that to be the case. It is true that welfare and entitlements have created a new class of poor, many of which turn to crime because welfare isn't enough. This is true but not only among blacks. I think it is unfair to stereotype people based on one groups behavior. But this whole problem is one created by the Democrats and financed with taxpayer money. You are correct in your summation that these people reason why work when you can live free? But had not the Democrats enabled them with free rides this may well not have happened. Welfare was supposed to eliminate the poor class. If failed miserably. Public housing was supposed to provide decant housing and a safe place for inner city poor families to prosper. It failed miserably. Public education is supposed to offer the chance for poor kids to better themselves but thanks to liberals lowering the standards it is now failing miserably. What is alarming is that some people still think liberal social programs actually worked! From inner city slums to retirees who can't afford their medicine because the liberals were financing illegals using money from the SS fund. Everywhere you look there is evidence of failed liberal policies and the situation is much worse than when they started. I can understand what you are saying, just not who are the main culprits. Human nature is that most humans will seek the best life using the least amount of effort. Handouts pander to this tendency and after awhile becomes an addiction. I have read about the sitution in Detroit but I'll bet it isn't much better in say LA or some other liberal haven. As you said, only an unending stream of wealth distribution is the liberals cure for the very problems they've created.

R.A.M
The problem is that the MSM will not show the suffering of poor whites in city slums because it doesn't support the notion that only blacks are poor and only blacks suffer. I agree that Dover's comments were inappropriate and based on faulty perceptions. But the fact remains, liberal policies have failed since their inception here and they continue to fail. Dixiecrat-Republican asks "why are you people conservatives" and my reply is "because we aren't blind". I think some minorities have been conditioned since birth to believe that without liberal social programs, they cannot survive. Similiar to Dixiecrat they believe that anything of a conservative leaning is automatically bad and rejected out of hand. This is not from personal experiences but from political indocrination of the left in this country. They have been pandering to minorities to garner votes using taxpayer money to buy these people's very incentive to excel. Masquerading as "caring politicians" they've managed to convnce these people of such idiotic things as a "vast right wing conspiracy" and other nonsensical notions. Similar to Islamic fundementalists telling Palestinians that jewish people make cookies out of Palestinian children. A logical mind would find that too fantastic to believe, an indocrinated one wouldn't.

Dixiecrat=Republican: Well is your ...
opposition to abortion based on fear, hate, or greed?

Are you a liberal btw?

If so, why are you a liberal?

Uh, R.A.M.....
How did you find my previous post racist?

Think of the anthropologist describing a culture in their research. By your definition, Margaret Mead must have qualified as a Grand Dragon in the Klan.

I lived in Detroit for a few years and a few more in another predominantly black city, Pontiac. Both are now third-world disasters due to black "thinking and planning". As well, I learned first hand about how blacks work the system be it from food stamp fraud, claiming each others children as their own to fatten the AFDC check, or feigning mental illness to get on social security. And this "black list", as the bruthas and sistas say, goes on. It's truly pathetic.

Business (and city)-killers such as high taxation and radical unionism are loved by black people. And they have very few city services because they don't hold city management responsible.

Other "chocolate cities" in Michigan such as Benton Harbor, Flint, and Saginaw are the same: overridden with crime and decay.

No suh, liberal politics kills cities and people, and it's what a vast majority of blacks want. If you were an anthropologist, how would you describe it? In your description keep in mind one fact: There is NO PLACE ON THE PLANET where blacks have settled that they haven't drastically increased the crime rates, and preyed on the native population.

Just get it over with and vote Democrat, RAM, and feel the righteous pain. They'll give you all the rope you need....if you get my drift.

DIXIECRAT

.....What do you have against FEAR, HATE & GREED? ....these are all natural human defense mechanisms that are built into our genes ...to deny them is to deny oneself ...

BRYCE

.....When we gonna reach dat Mountain top, Dog?

.....No need to reply ...I already know the answer ...NEVER! .....COLOSSUS

Excellent artice, the last paragraph...
"Things won't change until blacks begin to see that these same liberal politics and attitudes are at the root of their problems today."

says it all.

When will blacks in this country wake the h*ll up and realize that they've been used for decades by the very party (Democrat) that claims to support them?

My God it is way past time for the black community to wake up.

To the black community, I say: "H*ll no I am not guilty and for God's sake stop playing the d*mn race card! Stop playing the victim. There is no power in that whatsoever. Grow up and take responsibilty for your lives!!"

Another thing for blacks to ponder
You'd think that blacks would start asking themselves why their plight has not improved at all since they've been monolithically voting for liberals.

Hey black community: You've been voting for democrats/liberals for decades believing their lies that they're on your side and will "help" you, blah, blah, blah. Well, how's that been working out these past 40 years? How come your neighborhoods are still a mess? Your families torn apart? Abortion clinics rampant in your cities?

WAKE UP!

Black Conservatives
Black conservatives must be filled with self-hatred. Here is a tradition in which
• Conservatives – the Buckley-Regan kind as well as the Dixiecrats – fought tooth and nail every attempt towards equal rights for blacks.
• Conservatives supported the Jim Crow laws.
• Conservatives physically blocked the doors of universities to blacks.
• Conservatives smeared Martin Luther King and called him a communist. They didn’t want to honor him with a national holiday.
• Conservatives glorified the apartheid rule in South Africa and branded Mandela a terrorist.
• Conservatives support by their silence their colleagues who make cruel fun of asthmatic and autistic children, in thinly veiled references to blacks.
• If Conservatives had had their way, blacks would still be riding in the back of the bus and would have no right to vote.
How could a self-respecting black person not confront self-righteous, remorseless conservatives with this history?
Not all conservatives are bad, of course. Perhaps you should read George Will’s post of 8/10/08 titled, “Things have not always be the same,” and compare it with the comments it received.
Don’t feel bad; black conservatives are not the only ones that seem to be filled with self-loathing. The orthodox Jews, who in these pages, defended antisemitic comments about Jews being unperfected Christians who considered Jesus Christ a lunatic are equally so.

An Obama vote
I will consider voting for Obama when he promises to put qualified individuals like Thomas Sowell and Armstrong Williams and Shelby Steele in his cabinet. And of course, Star Parker as Secretary of Health and Human Services.

gv
i guess all those dims in the south were really interested in the welfare of blacks until the repubs forced those poor dims to found the KKK and introduce segregation and jim crow.

But then came the 60's and the southern dims forced those northern repubs to vote for the civil rights legislation. But the conserv movement is traced to barry goldwater and bill buckley. But the conservs have also been aligned with the repub party.

But I guess those evil conservs have been behind everything that is anti black.

Too bad those evil conservs forced bull connor to turn the dogs and the water hoses on those poor blacks that the southern dims wanted to give full rughts and access to the ballot box and other civil rights.

But I guess it was also those evil conservs that forced all of those loving dims from the south to totally oppose all the civil rights legislation.

But I also gather that the conservs forced old sheets bird, that lib hero of the dims to utter the "n bomb" and to put on his sheets when he was a leader of the kkk.

Too bad the evil conservs have forced the kindly dims to treat blacks as second class citizens

But I guess the fact that mandela went to prison for murdering a policeman and that he was also a commie was the fault of the conservs as well. But perhaps the evil conservs are now forcing poor old nelson to support mugabe and his murderous ways in zimbabwe

Gv sounds like you are the racist, blaming others for blacks and their destructive lifestyles. But perhaps one of these days the evil conservs will quit forcing blacks not to get married and stop having babies out of wedlock. And I am sure the dims will force the conservs to finally stop conservs from preventing blacks from getting education and forcing blacks to commit all those crimes.

STAR IS A STAR
Her article is about political positions, not race. Good stuff, Star.

Another excellent column--
Another great column by Star. If we had Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams in charge of the economics of the US, things would be a lot more solid.

Another fabulous black man in politics
is found in Colonel Allen West. Check out his website.

Dumbocrat=Retardican
Were you born gutless or did you learn it in college like a Typical Liberal?

Dixiecrat- I'm conservative because...
25 years as a social worker has taught me many things:

* That "greed" is natural state of being for all humans, and that those in gov't are just as "greedy", only cannot be held accountable and can force us under penalty of law to subsidize whatever they decide we ought to support. The private sector has no such power.

* That human will, undergirded and driven by personal values and priorities, is the crux of all human behaviors. It is never helpful to ignore this and bend reality by enabling destructive and expensive behaviors in the name of diversity, tolerance, acceptance, etc... You can see the results in many inner cities right now.
* That the best any society can do is afford the climate that offers the most opportunities to the most people. This is accomplished by behavioral expectations, low taxes, crime management, and tort reform; which serve as incentives to work hard and for businesses to grow by hiring others because there is profit to be made- which is subsequently shared throughout the economy.

I have found that clients over the past couple of decades who enjoy the best overall quality of life (many stay in touch- you should see my house over the holidays!) do so by AVOIDING gov't programs and systems and employ basic conservative principles- self reliance, industry, doing what is needed rather than wanted, and exercise impulse control. I can go on and on about what happens to those who remain in a state of receiving incessant "help" from gov't programs- there is much to fear for those who do.

So, that's why I'm conservative. I think you may have the wrong impression of what it means to be conservative- I find this is often the case.

OSWorker
You are preaching to the choir :)!

GV-I'm a Black Conservative, Not a Hater
The only thing I hate is they way our people continue to throw 90% of their vote to a party that is pro-abortion, that will increase taxes, is against getting minority kids out of failing public schools, and is only interested in holding on to keeping Blacks voting Democrat every election cycle. You do your thing on the left, and I will continue to free up people from the left and move them to the right. Do you own any stock? Is 90% of your money locked up in one fund or company? Would any financial advisor suggest you do so? Of course not! So be it with our people continuing to put 90% of our eggs in the same basket. Its a bad financial strategy and an even worse political move.

oldsocialworker....
EXCELLENT response to Dixiecrat and any others who still don't "get" why we "mean ol' conservatives" believe in a hand UP, NOT a hand OUT -- at least not for the long term. A lifetime of living on the public dole strips people of their motivation, self-confidence, and the development of a sense of personal responsibility.

...ANOTHER home run! ;o)

GV -- CHECK YOUR FACTS
If you check your historical facts and look at the role of Democrats, you would wonder how could any self respecting Black person could continue to align themselves with a group with such a history. Walk your talk, GV....look it up! The Republicans have a much better track record on civil rights than the Democrats. Read Unfounded Loyalty (Perryman).

THANKS LADY X!!!!
I appreciate your kind words. I get a little jazzed sometimes. If someone stand is grounded in facts, I'll respect that. However, this emotionalism has held Black people hostage for too long. My friends hate this about me, but color does not trump facts. Thanks again for your thoughts and support.

OrpheusMay
How can you say with a straight face that the party that has not had a single black representative on the Hill for years has a better record on race than the party that has black representation at, hopefully soon, every level of elected office?

Sorry sweet
The party that loves to lecture blacks about what issues they should embrace, yet has zero black elected representation in national politcs is hardly in the position to characterize the party whose presumptive nominee is black as embracing plantation mentality.

Patently absurd.

Obama is a Kinder, Gentler Race Hustler
Great piece Ms. Parker. You hit it right on the head though. About 85 to 90 percent of blacks always vote democrat. So, for this race, it would not have mattered which of the DNC stooges marched out there, they knew they would get about the same percentages as Obama is now getting.

The black conservative is never looked at nationally unless he or she is about to be considered for a prominent position, such as for the Supreme Court, or Ambassador, or Secretary of State for example. When a conservative who is black or white is nominated for something that requires Congressional Scruitiny, the Liberal Democrats always turn it into a Political Attack rather than seeking out views, suitability, intelligence, etd. The Liberal Democrats never Make Any Decision That is Not Political. The Liberal Democrats Have No Scruples, Morals nor Genuine Interest in the People of the United States. All they care about is Power and Staying In Power. They obstruct justice. They obstruct Progress. They Threaten National Security, all for the Sake of Politics and Power. The majority of congress could be tried for Fraud, Abuse, other illegal acts, and a few could even be tried for Treason, given some of the lengths they go to to stay in power, playing politics all the time.

The Liberal Democrat says, "Don't Ask Me What I can Do For My Country, but What Can Power and the Country Do For Me?"

We need to Vote Every Liberal Democrat Out Of Office, and Then Begin To Dismantle the Bureaucracy That The Liberal Democrats beginning with FDR have built. Now, Big Government Bureaucracy and Liberal Democrat is Synonymous. The Loser is You and Me, my Fellow Americans.

Vote These Scoundrels Out of Office and Vote No to Obama in November.

bryce
what's wrong with the notion that more blacks contribute to this country as producers as opposed to being takers.

Why shouldn't america expect blacks to take advantage of opportunities given such as finishing school and taking care of their own responsibilities

Why shouldn't america expect blacks to stop victimizing each other and live in peace with other.

But why shouldn't the rest of us one day to think that blacks give up their notions they are victims 24/7.

But many wonder why blacks continue to identify with the party that only values blacks as a voting block and does little to change the status quo.

The dims have called repubs racist for so long that blacks fully accept that as true even though there is no evidence to back up that claim. But just like the little boy who cries wolf, these accusations of racisam are essentially viewed as meaningless and are not taken seriously

It's not a notion Dave
It's a reality, most black people DO produce not take. Check the stats. 24% of blacks received some sort of public assistance during the years of the last census, the rest of us work for a living just like you. And the fact that you and others propogate this erroneus stereotype goes a long way towards explaining why blacks vote overwhelmingly Demcrat. I mean really, why would I associate myself with a party that views me this way?

Correction
I made the divide too distinct. I have no doubt that among the 24% who received some sort of public assistance there are many working poor who contribute as much sweat equity to this economy as any third or fourth generation CEO.
