Barack Obama's strange ethnic politics

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It's been equal-opportunity week to attack Barack Obama because of his remarks that seemed to justify a U.S. invasion of Pakistan. Democrats and Republicans alike had a field day at the expense of the poor senator.

In the midst of all this, he addressed the annual meeting of the National Council of La Raza, and talked about realities at home. But those remarks, which I found at least as provocative and troubling, got little public attention.

NCLR is sort of the Hispanic NAACP.

Speaking before an audience of about 2,000, Obama, according to The Wall Street Journal, "compared last year's massive immigration rallies led by Hispanics to the civil-rights marches of African-Americans in the 1960s ..."

Regarding the population of illegals in our country today, Obama assured the crowd that "I will never walk away from the 12 million undocumented immigrants ..."

How odd for a candidate for the presidency of the United States to include looking out for the interests of illegals as a campaign promise.

He appears to have already deemed these folks immigrants. The first and central question, that they arrived and remain here illegally, seems of secondary concern to the Illinois senator, a Harvard-trained lawyer. They are just "undocumented immigrants." We just haven't had a chance to get the paperwork done.

Consider that when a newly elected president is sworn in, he (or she) swears to "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Yes, our Constitution, whose stated purpose is to "... provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity ..."

Obama is running as a new kind of politician. And it certainly is new for someone campaigning for our nation's highest office, aspiring to assume responsibilities to provide for our defense and to secure liberty for "ourselves," to see representation of the concerns of millions who are here illegally as part of those responsibilities.

Can it be that Obama thinks he is running for secretary-general of the United Nations and not president of the United States?

How about his equating immigration rallies to the civil-rights movement of the 1960s?

The analogy is, to say the least, bizarre. And it again gives a sense that the senator's left-wing vision of the world is far closer to his heart than to our own Constitution and how it relates to our citizens.

The injustices that blacks suffered had to do with lack of equal treatment and due process of law for our own citizens because of their race.

The civil rights of blacks, U.S. citizens, protected under our Constitution, that were being violated were clear. What exactly are the rights of illegals that, according to Obama, are being violated? They have violated us, not we them.

Again I ask: What country, or what entity, is it that Obama is seeking to lead and exactly whose interests and what values is he looking to preserve and protect?

The Washington Times reported recently about a heretofore-secret 2005 report done by the Drug Enforcement Administration that discusses Islamic radicals who are "camouflaging themselves as Hispanics while conducting business with violent drug-trafficking organizations." According to the report, "multiple Middle Eastern drug-trafficking and terrorist cells in the U.S. are funding terrorism networks overseas with the aid of Mexican cartels."

Do you get the idea that Barack Obama has some kind of strange idea about what it means to protect this country?

Obama seemed quite at home with the La Raza crowd, dishing out business-as-usual ethnic politics. After conjuring up the mother of all entitlements -- that anyone who can sneak in here is entitled to become a citizen -- he then assured them that virtually every aspect of their life would be benevolently protected by a government under his leadership.

But as Obama shared his vision of America as welfare state to this audience of Hispanics, he failed to also share that, as our nation's youngest ethnic demographic, they have the most to be concerned about regarding the shaky ground on which this welfare state stands.

According to the census bureau, 34 percent of the Hispanic population is under the age of 18. This compared to 32 percent of blacks and 22 percent of non-Hispanic whites.

So Hispanics, and blacks, will disproportionately get washed into the sea of red ink of Social Security and Medicare entitlements that we have promised future generations, but do not have the money to pay.

On the other side of the coin, Hispanics, and blacks, would disproportionately benefit today by being allowed to fund their own private retirement accounts in lieu of paying payroll taxes.

But they'll never hear this from Obama.

And thanks, Star. I've always felt that the current illegal immigration boondoggle is in no way, shape or form similar to the civil rights struggle.

These folks came here voluntarily, and voluntarily BROKE THE LAW.

Why any high profile black politician, pundit, celebrity, etc. would say any different is beyond me, and I have felt that way for years.

However, not being black myself, I never felt it was my business, and I wasn't volunteering in the Minuteman Project just for blacks, but for all Americans.

Did anyone see that the city of San Fransicko now wants to help "immigrant" pay for green cards? The price has gone up on them, but they're still cheaper than paying a coyote. Is San Fransicko going to start subsidizing the coyotes neext?

Foot In Mouth Disease
I'm really angry that Barack Obama (and John Edwards) make Hillary Clinton sound sane, in comparison. She's not but Obama is not helping.

I think of Obama as a goat
you know the one that all the sheep can identify with until he is let out and the sheep are then slaughtered.
He's a Black man (well, at least 1/2 Black!)
He's well-spoken (so they THINK he knows what he is talking about!)
The only thing he will NEVER be is the one to win the nomination. All his support will end up with HC, along with all his voters.
Because wether people like to mention it or not, Obama hasn't the experience to do the job. This IS his FIRST term in office.
But, like a lot of other Harvard-grade-inflated scholars, he has been told 'he can get the job done.' AND believes it. And, sadly, everything else "THEY" tell him.

Harvard and the USA
Obama is clearly stuck in College where you can spout off your beliefs in a protected environment and Mom and Dad will continue to pay all your bills so idiotic remarks won't cost you a thing.

The sad thing is that he clearly does not have any advisor, including his wife, who is willing to take him by the shoulders and yell "Snap out of it!" as he keeps right on digging. Perhaps if the hole gets deep enough, they will bury him in it.

HUH!
Sounds like obama's handlers need to do a better job. Perhaps this guy is taking the title of golden child, the nexr JFK too seriously. He's too inexperienced to count on teflon protecting him. Maybe he's watching to obama girls on the net too much.

Let him keep talking
The more he talks, the more he reveals himself as an empty suit who panders to the group he is talking to. He has no principled stands. He is naive and too inexperienced to be trusted with national defense. And the fact that he panders to illegal aliens who can't vote makes me think that he hopes that they are able to commit election fraud and vote for him. Despicable. But, with every day he shows himself for the novice he is. I say, let him keep talking.

More time
Obama will have plenty of time to spend with those "undocumented workers" he finds so attractive after he fails to win the nomination and must fade back into obscurity, a place where he best belongs. He is a disgrace to America and someone of his caliber should not be running for president.

But, every time he opens his mouth he makes it worse -- so I hoping he keeps opening his mouth. I hope that someday soon he says something so outrageous that the rest of America wakes up and realizes what a total fake and fool he is.

I am sick of this racial pandering
The dems want power period and they get it by giving away our money to those whose only interest in this country is selling their vote for more welfare goodies.
Blacks who are Republicans are considered "sellouts", I ask my buddies one of whom has an MBA, sellouts to what?. No answer.
Another, when queried about the money wasted on the "great society" says "well it was an experiment"..A trillion bucks [or more] wasted on an experiment that any fool could see was just another vote buying scheme. My answer is vote for what is good for ALL Americans, not what you can get from SOME because you think we owe you something...want respect? earn it.
If the pols ever get their way and this amnesty scheme gets approved we will have lost this country. There are not enough productive people to pay for all this garbage being promised to those who contribute little or nothing to the country.
Cut off the welfare gravy and watch the jobs get filled by citizens and the illegals will go home on their own.The guy with that message will win a landslide.

La Raza should be illegal
Much of La Raza's West Coast propaganda assures Mex-AM's and Mex-Nex's that CA is really theirs and promotes a "return" to the days before the Mex.-Am. War of the 1830s, 170 years ago for heaven's sake.

La Raza invented the "undocumented" lie.

It provided the Mex. flags flown during the "civil rights" demonstrations a year ago.

But as I am a former teacher and current NEA member surrounded by lib.-whacko socialists daily, I can state that I never hear my colleagues either praising or defending illegal immigrants; ergo, I think they have a lost cause.

Only elected pols. seemed enthralled with amnesties and gimmicks for giving away college tuitions and Soc. Sec. to people who shouldn't be here.

All the time the libs. blather about how we should be more like Eur. with socialist prog.'s etc., but in Eur., you still need your documents to cross most borders, register at a hotel, rent a car, even use a credit card.

Tens of millions of illegals are a national security risk beyond imagining.

Lastly, hardly, the leaky sourthern border floods the US with illegal drugs. My only libertarian impulse is to legalize drugs to get rid of the illegal market. Tax them, sell them through dr.'s and pharmacies, and if people insist on jumping off buildings on PCP, the more fool thou.

Support American Citizens
Citizens are being forgotten as politicians pander to persons who either entered our nation illegally or overstayed visas. Why not announce plans to help citizens who lack jobs, skills etc.
Our black citizens deserve better!

Obama
I have heard Brigitte Gabrielle speak about the Islamic take over of Lebanon and am very wary of anyone with ANY Islamic background running for office in this country.
In addition, Obama's church is an anti-white church; it seems to follow the Black Muslim Louis Farrahkan's thinking. There is some food for thought. I have been wondering just where our native born Black Muslims fit into this jihad and worry that the jihadists have been sneaking their mission into our country for the last 40 plus years.
And his stand on immigration just reinforces my fears.

Anthony Thomas
Here and abroad, "Muslim converts" are engaged in terrorist training and terrorist acts. E.g.
http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/017494.php.

Not ALL Muslim converts, but it doesn't take ALL of them. And quite possibly more than one of them has managed to stay under the radar, avoiding detection, awaiting "marching orders." Their color doesn't matter, their attitude does.

Anthony Thomas
And this is the same guy who wants to pull the troops out of Iraq to invade nuclear armed Pakistan to catch OBL?

Barack O'Teflon Mama's
campaign slogan will soon be "what are you going to believe, your lying eyes or these truthful lips"

Obama's church here in
Chicago is an anti-white church with an outspoken race baiting, anti White pastor who has been put on hold until Obama is done with his campaign. Any White person who belonged to a similar kind of church would not be allowed to run for dog catcher. Obama is getting a lot of passes just because of his complexion.

As far as the media not paying attention to Obama and his major suck up with LaRaza, I certainly was. This immigrant thing is one of many reasons I won't vote for the guy.

obblahma
One would have to ask, what does this light weight truly believe in. Other than seeing only victim groups he seems to lack an understanding of what america stands for. But for a lawyer to lack an understanding of criminal activity seems oddly bizarre. But the dims know their entitlement plantation must be continually replenished with those who love the socialism. You know who I mean, those who don't prepare for their future and thus rely on govt handouts, but always vote for dims. Despite his denials obama is nothing more than a panderer who sees only victim groups being exploited by the greedy rich who see that the great unwashed get marginal execation and are thus unable to threaten the current social order. Oh wait, my mistake it's the libs who control the education system and are running the entitlement plantation. It seems obama was seeking to be the plantations new master, but lacks the wherewithal to displace the prospective plantation mistress, scarlet o'clinton

Anthony Thomas
Barak is not in any way uniting the people of America, and is not attempting to do so. By implying that those who want to see the borders enforces are racist or xenophobic, he encourages division. By pretending that Republicans and conservatives (not one and the same, mind you) are only opposing "comprehensive immigration reform" due to racial and ethnic bias is not a unifying action, either. And going to speak before a group that is among the loudest and most strident of boosters for the illegal influx of Hispanics in this country, and one that is committed (along with MECHA) to "reconquista" is certainly not a unifying act.

You have obviously bought into the notion that Obama is some sort of unifying figure, without ever really listening to what he's truly tryng to sell. Barak, and the Democratic Party in general, have spent the greater part of their political existence trying to sow discord among races, economic classes, and ethnicities for their own political gain. They are the dividers and have no interest in ever uniting us; that would do too much to waeken their political power.

Barack O'Teflon Mama supports SOME wars

Remember a while back he made the statement "God doesn’t take sides in war, but that the Civil War and World War II were JUST wars fought against evil."

Can you imagine Barack O'Teflon Man making a statement like that DURING the civil war, while hundreds of thousands of Americans are dying? I can't. He'd say we need to "get out of the South now!!"

History proves as ugly as war is, sometimes it is neccessary. History also proves there's liars, there's damn liars, and then there's politicians. And this guy is a great big politician.

Protect and Defend and other Stuff
Star, I so sorry, you apparently didn't get the memo. The new oath of office is a 72 hour covenant with the American people---upon its completion it's back to economic and social policies of high democatic (Obama, Bill and Hill and other really smart folks) inspiration.

Many of us just like you believed the U.S. Constitution granted ownership of America to the people. Sadly we are very poorly informed. America belongs to folks willing to fight for it... and our numbers are smaller and smaller as time marches on...

Obama and friends are fighting for an America that is not yet fully operational---give them another forty years!

UneasyRider writes:
"Obama's church here in Chicago is an anti-white church"

That's not entirely true. Their mantra is to get rid of the white middle class. They feel that's the root of all evil and the source of all their problems. It's interesting, since the story first broke in the Chacago Tribune last year, there's no been a peep since.

Phylo is right
Many of us ARE scared of Obama. I am. I find it astonishing that a person could run for president of the USA and very early in the campaign tell La Raza that he will never abandon illegal aliens. What the heck is that all about??? (Don't answer, we all know where you stand, Phylo.) I think he should be ashamed of himself. He is an embarrassment to the American people.

While I disagree with some of the hatred and viciousness I see posted here, I DO agree with those who have said that a candidate with true guts, who would stand proudly for what the American people really want and articulate it clearly, would win in a landslide.

If it is true that Obama's church wants to eliminate the white middle class -- how in heaven's name could anyone even consider electing this grandstander to any office? And that's all he is -- an opportunist and a self-promoter. I hope his mouth promotes him right ff the political landscape.

All sound and fury...
"NCLR is sort of the Hispanic NAACP."

With the added objective of commandeering a large portion of the US southwest for "the homeland," a goal similar to that preached by the Nation of Islam (about which surprisingly little is being said these days)...

Obama and the second-tier Dem candidates are just playing out their parts in a scripted play, in which HR "wins" the nomination and all the True Believers flock to the cause swearing undying loyalty to the Exalted Leader of the soon-to-be United Socialist Republic.

I WAS afraid of Obama
He was/is getting the buzz as the 'cool' candidate and getting alot of money. But then...

...He opened mouth and started discussing policy.

Oops.

I still wonder how much time he really puts into his thoughts. They are an ill-conceived mess. I think a whim pops over his head during his morning shave, and that will be the platform he runs on for a day. He probably spent more time 'working with his family on getting the light bulbs changed over in his house' than considering his platform.

I think if Hillary plays her cards right, she'll destroy this empty suit in the end.

Phylo
are these meetings and mutterings that are coming from obama the figment of some one's imagination or someone who doesn't understand that everything out of his mouth is broadcast and interpreted. It seems that obaba doesn't seem to understand he is under 24 hour scrutiny. Worse still is this someone who in the public setting where one's expects and situations that demand someone quick on their feet, someone who is not nimble. Obama seems more rookie like than seasoned and that shows he is not ready for the demands of presidentcy. His greatest strength is that he makes clinton look both intelligent and reasoned

Obama
is very skilled at sounding articulate and well reasoned while saying nothing at all. When one is able to pick out the occasional nugget from what he says, it is more often than not a paraphrasing of one element or another of "The Communist Manifesto". Yes, he is principled. Unfortunately, he is a principled Marxist. No politician who doesn't believe in our system of constitutional government in favor of socialism can be called a "uniter". He is the worst sort of divider, and a symbol of what has gone tragically wrong in our country.

Anthony Thomas
Ever hear of Reginald Denny and the LA riot of 1992? How many killed? 53?

Desperate Times
Hillary is pulling away from Obama, he knows it and there is nothing he can do about it. Next thing, he will attack a Conservative Commentator and then beg for cash or pitch a Screaming Fit after he loses a primary. Obama is, was and will always be a lightweight. The fact that Phylo supports him SPEAKS VOLUMES!

Anthony Thomas says
"I challenge anyone on this website to name one African American that has unjustly murdered, hung, or raped a white person in America because of their cultural self empowering beliefs."

Well Anthony, here's a very small snapshot of your black brothers of Islam, or don't they count?:

7/18/73 Washington, DC Nation of Islam members shoot seven members of a family to death in cold blood, including four children. A defendant in the case is later murdered in prison on orders from Elijah Muhammad.

10/19/73 Oakland Ca. Nation of Islam terrorists kidnap a couple and nearly decapitate the man, while raping and leaving the woman for dead.

10/29/73 Berkeley, CA. A woman is shot repeatedly in the face by Nation of Islam terrorists.

11/25/73 Oakland, CA A grocer is killed in his store by Nation of Islam terrorists.

12/11/73 Oakland, CA A man is killed by Nation of Islam terrorists while using a phone booth.

12/13/73 Oakland, CA A woman is shot to deah on the sidewalk by Nation of Islam terrorists.

12/20/73 Oakland, CA Nation of Islam terrorists gun down an 81-year-old janitor.

12/22/73 Oakland, CA Nation of Islam terrorist kills two people in separate attacks on the same day.

12/24/73 Oakland, CA A man is kidnapped, tortured and decapitated by Nation of Islam terrorists.

1/24/74 Oakland, CA Five vicious shooting attacks by Nation of Islam terrorists leave three people dead and one paralyzed for life. Three of the victims were women.

4/1/74 Oakland, CA A Nation of Islam terrorist shoots at two Salvation Army members, killing a man and injuring a woman.

4/16/74 Ingleside, CA A man is killed while helping a friend move by Nation of Islam terrorists.

3/9/77 Washington, DC Hanifi Muslims storm three buildings including a B'nai B'rith to hold 134 people hostage. At least two innocents were shot and one died.

I am not a black basher
but I am very concerned about Obama's backgound which has shaped his beliefs. He was raised in the middle east for a number of years by a radical muslim stepfather(and an atheist mother)and spent his impressionable years in a Hadassa learning the Koran. When he graduated from Harvard (not a bastion of conservatism), he worked as a community organizer in Chicago.

I trained with students of the community organizer ilk and notice they had a mind set that detected supposed injustices and inequality that exceeded my capacity to identify because of excess.

I am concerned that his conversion to Christianity occured about the time of his political ambitions. I am concerned that conversion was orchestrated by a radical black preacher from whom he will have to distance himself if he is the democrat nominee.

He has lulled voters with his message of unity and downplayed his background. We all long for more unity and harmony in Washington but cannot let this longing screen us from considering these major influences that shaped him in his early life.

Intellectual lightweight
What we're finding out is that there's a big difference between writing a book and or delivering a speech before a predictable audience and actually developing practical domestic and foreign policy solutions.

Barack Obama is a flash in the pan. He gave an 'impressive' speech at the DNC Convention.

That's his resume. Period. Since then he's been running around chasing the political wind; always a step behind it. The fact that this guy is the second leading Dem for the Presidential nomination is a tribute to utter vacuousness of the DNC with respect to leadership.

Anthony Thomas

anthony
how do you describe sharpton's action and freddy's fashion mart

Anthony Thomas
Some of the offshoots of the Nation of Islam is as troubling as the KKK ever was. There's dozens of "Muslim only" villages in this country that's getting ready for the Jihad that's coming to America. Many of these "residents" are released black prisoners who converted to Islam while incarcerated. They live off of the stipends given to them from Saudi Arabia.

anthony
i have always maintained jackson and sharpton are media creations. They are in fact more of an insult to humanity. For reasons that only the press understands, they have labeled sharpton and jackson as spokesmen for the black community but for some reason the press doesn't think whites have or need a particular spokesman. Yet both these "reverands" have been know to expolit situations and the misery of others for their own personal benefit. The press never seems to report the situation after sharpton and jsckson depart

Phylo
RE: "If you're looking for honest, stimulating, debate with thoughtful and insightful opponents, this site, unfortunately, is not the place."

This is a hillarious statement coming from someone like you. You frequently do a "poop and scoot" on these columns, your post are often just rhetoric and slander, and you rarely answer any direct questions.

Then again, I thought you would've come to your senses by now based on the way the leftwing pundits have been spinning the news coming out of Iraq for the last few years. I guess there's no underestimating the loyalty, stubbornness, and downright ignorance of the Democrat base.

Anthony
Have you ever heard the hate-filled speech from the Black Panthers or the Nation of Islam?

I don't think any race is without their own extremists groups.

Mr. Thomas: Really?
Although your criticism of Obama's view on immigration maybe somewhat valid, is this necessary:

"Disgusting, racist, traitor, piece of filthy garbage is what this man is."

Is this the Republican/conservative movement that I hear so much about, this! How is he a racist? Who is he discriminating against? Please explain this?

+By pandering to “LaRaza”, Mr Obama is discriminating against the majority white, male, progressive taxpayer base (top 50% pay 96% of all income taxes)who will be stuck with the “bill” WRT paying for all of the social services/public assistance said potential 12M voting block will require following amnesty. A 2004 “Center for Immigration Studies” whitepaper indicated that (a) 41% of all lawful immigrant, high-school drop-out households, and (b) 28.5% of all illegal immigrant dropout households are enjoying some kind of public assistance. Guess how many of these immigrants are LATINO?

wildwest writes
"The press never seems to report the situation after sharpton and jsckson depart."

The press and the public share the blame. Example; not far from where I live, there's a town called Gary, Indiana. High crime, low employment, dispicable schools, you name it, all very sad. A couple months ago, Jesse and his posse came to town and held a press conference to talk about how the govment needs to spend mo money for the children (the fact that the government spends more money per pupil than anywhere else in the state is beside the point).

When he was finished pontificating, the head of the local Board of Education stood at the podium and invited all the parents to stick around for a round robin discussion on what could be done to help solve this grave problem. You know, just in case spending more money isn't the answer. Guess what? Everyone left! No parents, no camera's and certainly no Jesse.

Recent crime statistics
reported just last week: 93% of black victims are killed by other blacks. 86% of white victims are killed by other whites. These numbers appear to me to indicate there is less interacial killing then we are lead to believe by the media types and politicians who, as stated by an Mr. Obama himself, love to try to divide us.

C'MON PEOPLE!!! Get with the program and SCREW this racial divide crap! Let's talk about what is best for the WHOLE country not a select few.

Anthony
re: Obama's church

I think the problem or controversy with Obama's church is the specific wording. I took these directly from Obama's church and just changed one word. Imagine if Romney's church had these values:

- Commitment to the White Community

- Commitment to the White Family

- Adherence to the White Work Ethic

- Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the White Community

- Pledge to Allocate Regularly, a Portion of - Personal Resources for Strengthening and Supporting White Institutions

- Pledge allegiance to all White leadership who espouse and embrace the White Value System

- Personal commitment to embracement of the White Value System.

Needless to say.....every American in this country would hear about it. Changing "White" to "Black" does not make these goals any less offensive.

How about changing the word "Black" to simply "Christian"?

*wow*
After reading all these posts, I didnt realize Caucasians had it so bad. I truly feel sorry for you all. Blacks wanting equal rights and respect. Hispanics taking all those well paying jobs. I apologize from the bottom of my heart. Maybe a majority of blacks vote for Democrats because they speak to our issues and actually care about our needs as well as those of other races. It kinda sucks in 2007 that this racial divide is still a dominant part of all of our minds. I guess we'll never be able to judge a man on an individual basis by his character and actions. Rather, we'll continue to judge based on their race and the actions of others who share that common thread with them. I shouldn't let my son go to school with caucasian kids. They might shoot up the school and kill the teachers. See how silly that sounds. Grow up people and stop blaming people who are different races than you for all the ill's in this country. Stop getting your dose of black culture from BET and rappers. They grossly misrepresent us.

Anthony
I read your post, and your interpretation of the meaning of these values, but the words speak for themselves. I know you believe "White Power" means something evil and "Black Power" means something positive, but to many Americans they can both have negative connotations.

Again, why can't the church support "Christian" peoples and values....why must these worthy values be qualified by skin color?

Anthony

White Power vs. Black Power
The difference between the two is white power is a phrase designed to simply state the caucasian man's superiority over all other races. Black power is a phrase designed to state black people's belief and awareness of their being equal in stature and abilities to those of other races. When the KKK or skinheads scream "white power", it's usually in accordance with them denouncing other races as inferior. When a black man screams "black power", its usually to imply his strength and ability to do anything he puts his mind to. Im sure many will not agree but it is what it is. The difference is the context in which it's said.

Obama bin Laden - Who.??:

How could any serious person or even a liberal consider a person like this as a candidate for President. He's not even close. Sounds like MTV talking about which singer or group is most `popular, not about real politics.

I said I would leave the country if Jimmah Cahtuh got elected, and I did. Well, if this loopy excuse for a senator ever gets elected president, I will probably pull my citizenship.

Come on, can't we get serious.??.

RELAX
Anthony Thomas, good to see you in here.

Relax! TopGun, You really think God or jesus would stop poor people from crossing the border for a better life.
Get some rest.

free to think
jesus said: render unto caesar. He did not advocate disobeying the law. Mexico has recognized they have a large population that is poorly educated and unskilled. Mexico is a very corrupt country and has decided to keep their wealth in the hands of a relatively few. We live in a technological society and poorly educated and unskilled illegals is nothing more than a drain pon our economy. Economists estimate illegals take more than $20,000.00 in social services and contribute less than #120,000.00 to the economy. A very bad deal for us but nirvana for the law breakers. Once congress gets them into the social security system and medicare, look forward to the collapse of those programs, severe cutbacks or hefty tax increases for those in the work force. Or don't you think our laws should be honored and enforced?

OBAMA= Flash in the Pan?
I remember in the 2004 campaign, Howard Dean was the hot flavor of he month, with all this grassroots internet support, etc.. and seemingly cruising to the nomination. Some guy named John Kerry was a virtual afterthought. Remember how quickly things turned around. Before you knew it, JK was the front runner and Howard Dean became an also-ran.

I predict the same thing for this Obama in 08. Sure he's hot right now, but the more he speaks, the more he'll expose himself as an intellectual lightweight. Just give him time. Hillary is much smarter than he is politically. I predict she'll probably pick Bill Richardson because he's Hispanic. The Dems already will get 90% of the black vote so Obama doesnt really bring votes tot he table like Bill Richardson does.

My prediction... Hillary and Bill Richardson vs. Giuliani and Fred Thompson. I think Richardson will carry the Hispanic vote and help the Democrats to win. Personally, I don't WANT them to win, but if they play their cards carefully, this election seems to be theirs to lose.

Lemme tell you what God says. He says "Judge not lest thou be judged". He also says "he who is without sin, let him cast the first stone." It wasn't illegal when Christopher Colombus came here and "founded" America when in fact, Indians were already here. Please stop with the illegal immigrant bashing. I mean them damn illegals taking all those "well-paying" jobs has to make you sick doesn't it. That's the problem with people in this country. So concerned about what's going on in the next man's house, that your son can build bombs in his room and blow up the neighborhood elementary school. Clean up your own mess before professing to tell another man what to do with his. You're gonna pay taxes regardless of who's in office, how many illegals are here etc etc. And by the way, exactly what makes you an expert on the "ills of black america"? Since when did you become apart of the expert community on this issue?

TopGun
I really dont know the answer to all those questions you posed. But in your superiority, im sure you do. Lemme give you examples why I wont vote for a Repub like Bush. He wants tax cuts for corporations, but says no to funds for Veterans education benefits. He says cut funding to students in the form of grants because those are "government handouts" but the Feds pump millions into the housing market so the richest among us wont lose too much money. No money for levees in New Orleans because they cost too much. On and On and On. 1/2 a trillon dollars poured into Iraq when they're telling us we can go home whenever we want to and Maliki is holding hands with Iran. Any offer of hope and help to those who truely need it is viewed as "government handouts" and those who advocate it are "socialists". That's why. Because Repubs find it funny that a rich man like John Edwards can fight for the poor instead of for other rich people. But im not the only one. A majority of Americans, black, white, latino, asian, rich and poor alike are starting to see things differently. One of these days, your blind loyalty will wear off and you'll see thru your own eyes, not just with blinders on.

*one more thing before i go to work*

The funniest thing I've seen or heard in a while is all these experts on black culture and the problems within the black community who just so happen to be white. Wow. I didn't know simply having an opinion makes you a bonafied expert. Keep up the good work, TH. With friends like the ones in here, who needs enemies.

PopYoMouth on racism 101, says:
"When the KKK or skinheads scream "white power", it's usually in accordance with them denouncing other races as inferior. When a black man screams "black power", its usually to imply his strength and ability to do anything he puts his mind to. Im sure many will not agree but it is what it is"

Soooo, can I take from this: when a white is proud of being white, it really means everyone else stinks, but when a black is proud of being black, it really means he's strong and confident. Interesting analogy. It certainly explains a lot.

Now, about the Trinity United Church of Christ: would you care to explain to the class what the 12 covenants are? You know, things like

Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”

Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System

Adherence to the Black Work Ethic

Commitment to the Black Community

Pledge to make the fruits of all developing and acquired skills available to the Black Community

Pledge allegiance to all Black leadership who espouse and embrace the Black Value System

Let's see if I can sum up: Black good, White middleclass bad

Did I miss anything Mr Mouth?

Anthony Thomas
That is a real shame. You state that Black churches are for empowering blacks at the expense of whites. Jesus taught the empowerment of everyone through Him. If your church is so far off the mark that they teach that blacks need to oppose whites, I suggest you find another church. This actually brings me to an interesting observation. I go to an ethnically mixed church, although it is predominately white. We have many Hispanics, and many Asians, but very few blacks. This is not due to any discrimination on the part of our members, although you will have to take my word for that. This makes me think that blacks want to be segregated to their own churches, or at least wonder. Maybe you can clue me in on that.
If we are all brothers and sisters in Christ, can we all not congregate together for the greater good of Christ and unity in the Body? I don't mean the racial body, I mean the Body of Christ.

Time to change campaign strategists...
...and perhaps his rhetoric.

Senator Obama has lost the plot. He has, unsuccessfully, tried to be all things to all people and, ruefully for the junior Senator from Illinois, it's not working. He needs to pick a policy and stay with it. He cannot be a pacifist liberal and threaten to invade Pakistan. He cannot appeal to the black community (who already have problems with his "authenticity") and compare the immigration protests to the painful and vastly different civil rights movement. What he is doing just isn't working.

Perhaps, in 8 years - after some much-needed seasoning - Senator Obama will be a viable presidential candidate.

Right now, he is not.

Cheers,

Ron Albright

reading over your list of some of these 12 covenants, I wonder where this new strong black community exists. A reading of the list would lead one to think that that church is opposed to govt assistance. That they want to develope strong communities that are self reliant. However there seems a dis-connect between rhetoric and reality. BTW i have had many run-ins with the above pop. He is all of 27 years old, a very limited understanding of history and an undying love all anything dimocrap. They understand all the problems confronting blacks, whereas repubs only know how to exploit. He has hissy fits if you insult his heroes, which is any dim but has no compulsion about insulting the president as though that is acceptable. But above all he is an incessant whiner, in particular chastising any critism as nothing more than proven racism. Thus no white is capable of fully analyzing the black community and it's societal failures as whites can never understand what they haven't experienced. He claims to be open minded but has assured all that his total support is behind missus clinton and that she will be the new savior of society.

wildwest
Good points. He, sadly like so many African Americans today, suffers from "squeeky wheel entitlement syndrom". Why? Because even sadder to say - it works.

Popyocolla rewrites history
White power vs. black power.

The terms have ALWAYS meant political power.

The terms date back to the early 1960's.

White power meant that the political beliefs of a substantial majority of whites would always become public policy because there weren't enough blacks to outvote the whites if the blacks disagreed.

The term 'black power' was coined by blacks like H. Rap Brown who never held public office and were considered radicals at the time. They (quite logically) were frustrated with 'white power' and wanted 'black power'.

Popyocolla's contention that the terms differ because of "context" is pure, unadulterated BS. It's just one more feeble attempt by a liberal to re-write history and redefine terms to create and uphold another self-serving double standard.

wiseone
i thought I heard recently that good old H rap is back in another public instution. It seemed life was tough on the outside so he decided free meals and a 6 x 10 room at tax payers expense was what he needed for his retirement years. If I got my black panthers mixed up, my apologies. I guess we had better check with missus clinton, perhaps she maintained her affiliation with those lovers of peace after all these years

I'll give you an example of Black Power
that could only happen in America. Remember Black Panther Bobby Rush? He was elected to Congress in 1992, he took over as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection last year. He's already held 100's of hearings and says "hearings are a crucial step toward policy change, not to mention a lot of fun" for him.

"The gavel," he said this spring, a few months into the new Democratic majority, "is the best part." "Whatever you're interested in, we can have a hearing in our subcommittee on that." Rush laughed, "it's our turn now!"

Now that's Black Power.

You have the right panther
Brown, now known as Jamil Al-Amin (his muslim name, imagine that), was convicted in 2002 for murdering one Sheriff's Deputy and shooting a second in 2000 and was sentenced to life in prison.

What you may have heard about recently is that the State of Georgia doesn't think it's safe to continue housing this emmissary of the 'religion of peace' in its own max security prison so they shipped him to a federal facility in Oklahoma.

It's coming back to me now
The guy who actually coined the term "Black power" was Stokely Carmichael. Brown, other Black Panthers, and other black political activists were involved with popularizing the term by getting a lot of media attention and using the term at every such opportunity.

The term was never intended by Stokely Carmichael to encourage violence, but it became associated with militant black activists because of the number of times militants who were accused of violent crimes were using it in front of the media.

Anthony Thomas
Who was the author of your history book, Malcolm X?

Anthony Thomas
Great job. Keep going. Ignore those like Boromir's Horn, Icedog, and even wildwest. Not worth your time.

Boromir's Horn
Can you name the pastor of Obama's Church? Ever been? Ever heard of Saint Sabina too? How about Otis Moss? Father Pfleger?

Anthony Thomas
You so conveniently leave things out of context. Yes white "power groups" and religious groups have done some very dispicable things since Adam and Eve walked the earth. But these groups have, for the most part, evolved into a semblance of civility.

Now, take a look at the trouble spots in the last 30 years in this country, by and far it has been with the Black community. More recently, it's been with Hispanics. Both groups have troubling organizations that are not on the wane, like the white power groups you keep referencing, but on the rise. That my friend, should be a concern to both of us.

Boromir's Horn
30 years out of 231 years ain't that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Some of you TH posters kill me!!!!!!

Oh yeah
"You so conveniently leave things out of context"

You got some nerve Boromir's Horn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Executive experience?
Color does not qualify anyone to be President and Obama would still not be qualified even if he was orange with green pokadots!

There probably are several black people who ARE qualified.
Someone like Powell would be qualified.
I don't like him but he could actually do the job.
Obama does not have enough executive experience to manage your local super market.

Ralph Ellison
Reverend Jeremiah Wright, a young black activist from Philadelphia. Why?

Ralph Ellison says
"30 years out of 231 years ain't that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of you TH posters kill me!!!!!!"

Oh, I get it, so it's all about getting even. Don't stop the violence until you perceive the score is even? You sir, are sick with your vile hatred.

Boromir's Horn
I wouldn't call Jerry Wright "young". A man in his late 50s isn't all that young. Sorry wildwest.

It seems as if you:

1)Barely understand who the pastor is and his current status/past accomplishments

2)Have very little knowledge of the church or its origins

3)Never heard a sermon from Rev. Wright

4)Rely on Faux News a tad bit too much

5)Stereotypes abound and interfere with your critical thinking process

Boromir's Horn
"Oh, I get it, so it's all about getting even. Don't stop the violence until you perceive the score is even? You sir, are sick with your vile hatred"

You sound kind of paranoid.

Reading your previous postings, maybe you need to realize that relying on stereotypes and biased sources for your the basis of your ideology on life, race, etc is not a good idea.

Keep fixing up Gary!!!!Glad to see you stayed!!!!

ralph ellison
accuse me of what you want, but don't blame me for statements I didn't make. I have stated obama has shown a lack of experience and has made many mistatements, but I have not commented on his religion or who is the minister of the church he attends.

wildwest
Now you know I didn't mean you right? You know you are my conservative brother from another mother!!!! Lol!!!!!!!!!!

I stated that it was Boromir's Horn.

Ralph Ellison
Yea I know, it's all about the roots. Well, let's see if we can really get to the root of the matter and put aside all political correct protocol, shall we?

It seems the biggest obstacle to understandings and improved relations between black and white in this country always, eventually, ends up with the dreaded slave thing (though it amazes me how blacks gravitate toward Islam, since slavery is clearly accepted in the Muslim world even to this day).

Anyway, can you be honest for a moment and put yourself in George Orwell's time machine and take yourself all the way back before the first slave was brought to America. What would your life be like today? Would you even be alive? What would life be like here in America? These are some pretty heavy points to ponder, I agree. But have a few cocktails, heck have a bunch if that's what it takes, and think about it. I dare you.

Ralph Ellison
While were waiting for the alcohol to take effect, let me ask you a couple easy ones: why didn't you way in on my questio about the 12 covenents at the Trinity United Church of Christ? That is your church isn't it?

What does {Disavowal of the Pursuit of “Middleclassness”} and {Personal commitment to embracement of the Black Value System} mean anyway?

Well, I never!
.

For Anthony Thomas
My memory is even better than I thought. Because you (apparently) googled "White Power" you forced me to go back and actually research where I got my recollection of "white power vs. black power". This is what I found, and it matches my memory and my previous posts EXACTLY.

The following is part of the text of speech made in 1966 by Stokely Carmichael at Berkely in which he coins the term "Black Power".

"Who has power? Who has power to make his or her acts legitimate? That is all. And that this country, that power is invested in the hands of white people, and they make their acts legitimate. It is now, therefore, for black people to make our acts legitimate.

Now we are now engaged in a psychological struggle in this country, and that is whether or not black people will have the right to use the words they want to use without white people giving their sanction to it; and that we maintain, whether they like it or not, we gonna use the word "Black Power" -- and let them address themselves to that; but that we are not going to wait for white people to sanction Black Power.

Please note the line quoted above that reads "...that power is invested in the hands of white people..."

This is the "white power" reference to which I was referring.

For Anthony Thomas, Part 2
I had to break my post to you up because of TH's 2,000 character limit.

Here is the rest of it.And this is the long and the short of it for you. Guys like you, and PopYoColla and Ralph Ellison can view every discussion, every event, every word you hear or read from self proclaimed victim status if you want. But that hasn't done the black man (or anyone else) any good anywhere ever. PopYoColla can BS about "Black Power" being a verballization of a Black man's "ability to do anything he puts his mind to" all he wants. It does not change what Carmichael meant when he coined the term; that BLACKS DON"T NEED ANYONE"S PERMISSION to achieve, to succeed, to prosper. They didn't need it in 1966 and they don't need it today.

All you do when you google "white power" is empower the white racists who used those words to counter Carmichael. When you cry 'foul' in 2007 over something some stupid white racist said in 1966 you begin to undo the very definition that Carmichael identified for you in 1966.

Nobody is discriminating against you. Nobody is oppressing you. Nobody is making you nearly as unhappy as you are making yourself. Get over it, get past it, and get on to something that matters today.

BTW - thanks the Klan link (insert sarcasm here). There wasn't a bloody thing in it about "White Power".

Some thoughts
1. Old Teddy Rosevelt had it right, when he said that we had no need for "hyphenated Americans."
2. Most people who choose to call themselves, "African-Americans", aren't. Only a person who was born on the continent of Africa, and subsequently emigrated to this country and became a naturalised American Citizen could rightly use the term. Anyone who is born here is, and should consider himself to be an American, period.
3. One of the most important things that Mr. Obama and Mrs. Clinton have in common, is that neither one has accomplished anything of substance, on their own. Each has at least one book of which each is the alleged author, but that isn't a qualification for becoming President. Exactly what have either of these poseurs actually done of any importance during their brief time as Senators?
4. People who have entered and remain in this country illegally, are criminals. No candidate for President should be pandering to criminals. In fact, as has been pointed out, since the President takes an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States, to take the part of the illegal aliens automatically disqualifies one as a serious candidate.
5. Considering what Christianity is supposed to be, why are there any such things as "black churches" and "white churches" anyway?
6. The best way to achieve failure on a permanent basis is to blame it on others, whilst making excuses for yourself. Of course, personal achievement must be repeated, but one good excuse can last a lifetime.

The reason I won't vote for Obama
is because he's a liberal. I find myself on the opposite side of most liberal arguments. Nothing to do with skin color. Someone along the lines of Thomas Sowell. Unfortunately, most blacks are liberals, so it only appears to be a racial problem. Liberals will not or cannot see this reasoning and instead resort all too often to accusations of racism.

Amazed
In all the comments I've read here, it strikes me as telling that none of Obama's defenders is willing to address the fact that he's a communist. That, in and of itself, should disqualify him from any public office in this country. Sad to say, I live in the socialist republic of Illinois, whose politics are inordinately influenced by the welfare state of Chicago. It's getting about time for a Constitutional Revolution (this is why we have a second amendment).

planting ground
plant a seed, let it grow

Obama has no roots with African American
Obama's equating the plight of illegals in the U.S. to the struggle of African Americans in the 1960s once again raises the question of "is he black enough?". To not understand the difference between struggling for rights and equality in a nation where one's ancestors were brought against their will versus an effort of people attempting to circumvent the immigration laws and secure full rights and privilges shows a lack of any historical perspective on his part.

Disgrace
For a black women, you are a disgrace to your own people. It's sad, you disgust me. Go ahead and and keep living your life as a white women.
