Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Bruce Gordon, who has resigned as president of the NAACP, got a crash course in the difference between the world of politics and the world of business. The former is driven by power and control, the latter by markets and service.

It's why countries with more of the former and less of the latter tend to be poorer than those where it is the other way around.

And it is one particular irony that the NAACP, an organization born with an agenda to advance freedom, over time morphed into an organization defined in every dimension by the culture of politics.

Gordon, a businessman and corporate executive by career, made a bad business call. He assessed the situation he was getting into incorrectly and learned, as we say, the hard way. He thought they wanted him to solve problems and build a better organization. They, or maybe more precisely, Julian Bond, NAACP's chairman, were looking for someone to carry their political baggage.

Meanwhile, it's obvious that an organization where its president quits 19 months after he'd been hired to replace a predecessor who himself left under duress, is a troubled organization. If the NAACP was publicly traded its stock would be sinking.

It's clear that the organization that Bruce Gordon decided to go to work for was not the organization he thought it was.

One reason may be that the NAACP today is not the organization it once was.

Founded at the beginning of the last century, the NAACP's challenges then were clear. The legal and institutional barriers to equal treatment and due process under the law for blacks were real and tangible. It required no subtlety of thought to understand what the battle was that needed to be fought, although there were differences of opinion regarding how best to fight the battle.

With the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act in1964 and 1965, that battle was won. That's not to say the struggle was over. Life's struggles are never over. But it became a different battle. Once the chains are broken, the challenge translates into a human struggle of realizing one's potential in freedom. The battlefield moves from outside to inside.

But the black political leadership didn't want to let go. They wanted to keep the game political.

Today the NAACP has simply become a rote platform for left wing politics.

For reasons that I'll leave to others to explain, the organization has become more highly motivated to promote this left wing agenda than addressing the many problems of its own community.

Discussing his departure in an interview with Tavis Smiley, Gordon observed, "...In business terminology we would argue that organizations that are no longer customer focused, who lose the heart of the customer, who lose the choice of the customer, will ultimately fail."

Practically speaking, Gordon's observations are born out by the following:

Barely one in four blacks support legalization of gay marriage. Yet, one would be hard pressed to find a lawsuit pushing for gay marriage in which the NAACP is not a plaintiff.

Black support for school vouchers is stronger than white support. Almost three out of four blacks between the ages of 26 to 35 support vouchers.

Yet, the NAACP adamantly opposes vouchers and school choice. A great victory was just achieved in the state of Utah which will open the door to vouchers. NAACP opposition to Utah's new law is posted prominently on the homepage of its website.

Similarly with personal Social Security accounts. Young blacks poll strongly in favor. The NAACP opposes.

Even moderate black journalists now recognize and write that the challenge in black America today is social. Aids, abortion, family breakdown, crime, poor education. These are problems of values and lifestyle, not politics.

Yet, like the old saw that to a man with hammer everything looks like a nail, NAACP leaders interpret the clear moral and social crisis in our inner cities as a political problem in need of government solutions. Ironically, and tragically, it was the invasion of government into family life, through the welfare state, that precipitated black family breakdown to begin with.

To Bruce Gordon's credit, he wanted to transform the NAACP into an organization in which blacks take responsibility for identifying and trying to solve the problems in their own community.

This was obviously too much for an organization that wants to pursue "social justice" in a world in which most black babies are born with no father at home.

The NAACP has become a symptom of the problems in black America rather than a source for solutions. Perhaps this latest crisis will provoke some badly needed soul searching and change.

Slaves to Uncle Sam
The Great Society has destroyed the black community. LBJ knocked them down, and the NAACP is making damn sure that they don't ever get back up. And, the ones that do get back up, they are branded as Oreo, Uncle Tom or worse. The government-dependent culture is deeply rooted and will take several generations to correct.

The NAACP is stuck in a
history of LBJ and Great Society much like the movie Groundhog Day where every day is the same. This organization is now in it for the leaders of the organization and it's day is done. It is a body of "professional black agitators" who care little for the plight of blacks and who care a lot for the plight of officers of the NAACP. If they are not bailed out again by some ignorant corperation they will go under. I say let them, their reason for existence passed a long time ago.

And all of this would be cleard without any politics, government interference? And how?

Well,
Aids is "cleard" by getting tested and staying in a monogomous relationship with another aids free person (stopping the promiscuous sexual behavior)

Family breakdown is "cleard" by getting married before having children and staying married (committment)

Crime is "cleard" by A- not accepting predation as an acceptable means of getting ahead, and b- standing as a community in support of laws and in opposition to crime and disrespect.

Poor education is "cleard" by school choice and parental discipline.

then he goes on with "Of course, by gay bashing. Attacking legal proetctions of gay relationships and families all of the problmes above are solved."

and I'm wondering where that came from.

Curbside at Katrina
The entire problem of the "Black Community" so-called was revealed by the crowd of fat women sitting curbside at Katrina chanting "WE WANT HELP!"

If the NAACP actually cared about their constituency as people, they'd have been in New Orleans kicking those fat backsides and putting a broom in one hand and a mop in the other.

Unfortunately what the NAACP cares about is what all politicians care about. Getting elected, and getting re-elected.

And selling snake oil to the fat women sitting curbside chanting "We Want Help!"

"Help" of course meaning that God Who creates success by emptying baskets of "Fortune" and "Luck" over fat women sitting inert on curbs will steer those baskets their way.

Bjorn Free
Hey, Bjorn, just read your comments on Mike Adams' article. Now you've outed yourself. You really are a one trick pony. Bjorn free. Free to leave. Goodbye.

Which Gospel?
The Gospel Of Cause vs. The Gospel Of The Cross

Kenneth O Gangel, in his book, "Team Leadership In Christian Ministry" talks about the Gospel of cause and makes this point, "Many who follow this Gospel tell us that the church must become more involved in human rights, using the influence of pastors and parish to push for affirmative action, school integration, equal rights and so forth. The problem according to Gangel is that the gospel of cause, therefore, is that it offers itself as a substitute for the Gospel of the Cross."
I say that African American Leaders and the African American Community must realize that the Gospel of Cause has its advantages, but the Gospel of the CROSS is sufficient to solve all problems, be they social, economical, personal, civil or spiritual. There can be no social change with out a personal change.

For the 6.02X10^23 rd time
Follow the money. The civil rights movement has been turned into another govt subsidized cash cow by Jesse, Al & friends. As long as politicians control access to the public teat, the NAACP will be political. BTW the first irreverent definition of the acronym I heard was "Never Antagonize Adam Clayton Powell". have fun with that one.

NAACP--Misguided
Any Organization that has its own National Anthem but argues for inclusion into the American society is misguided. Any Organization that supports one political Party only and then purports to represent all the Black people is misguided. Any Organization that fails to recognize the accomplishments of its own members(large and growing middle class) in our society and extols the perpetuity of the inner city criminals and laggards is misguided. Any organization that vilifies its true role models( Bill Cosby) in favor of its leaches(Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Julian Bond) is misguided. In the words of the old song they should "accentuate the positive and eliminate the negative" to become a guided force for equality and good.

Somehpw parker has no problem politicizing gay lives? But then she's typical conservative: freedom is only for those who think like she does.

The downside of Freedom shouldn't be subsidized by a welfare industrial-complex.

Did it even occur to you that perhaps Ms Parker was talking about Sex outside of wedlock, single women with 3 children by 3 different fathers, an attitude that encourages blacks to throw Oreos at a Black running for governor in Maryland because of his politics? I guess not.

Perhaps, my late grandmother was right. "Throw a rock in a pack of dogs and the one that yelps the loudest is the one you hit"

Oh my!
A political organization seeking political solutions! What will they think of next. Probably a corporation in search of profits. Get real. The NAACP is a political organization not a church. To pretend that the social message is not being presented in the African American community is absurd.

Star Parker is nothing but black for pay. If you believe her take on African American society than your as clueless as the white wanna bes who think that gangster rap presents an accurate picture of life in the hood. It's one thing to pay someone to tell you what you want hear. Its another thing to foolishly believe them.

I have lived in New Orleans. The lies Star Parker tells are so all encompassing that I can't invest the time in teasing them apart. And, I don't expect you to believe me. But, ponder this. There are many more white single mothers, white drug users, and whites infected with AIDS than blacks. The Christian right admits that these are all problems within its own community. If social solutions are the only answer, then why does the Christian right have such an enormous political machine? Why don't they merely tend to their flock?

Too Bad
Bruce Gordon sounds like someone who could have helped to reshape the NAACP into a relevant modern organization. He found out that wasn't what the entrenched power players really wanted, so he left. Now it's back to business as usual - 1960's Democrat style. And the losers in this farce? Blacks who could actually use the help to better their lives, as opposed to those who expect to be taken care of for a lifetime.

Moonbat: Avogadro's Number. Never expected to see that here.

Robert: Back into the padded room. Be good and someone will return your crayons and coloring book.

STAR PARKER ON THE NAACP'S FLOP
The NAACP went off the track years ago. One example why, is their concern for downright silly crusades of no real substance for black Americans. The latest nonsense is demanding that Robert E. Lee's portrait be removed from the county building in Lee County, Florida, a county named after Lee. Most blacks, as well as the majority of whites have no idea where Lee County, Florida is, nor do they care nor does it really matter to anyone not a resident there.

Robert
“To pretend that the social message is not being presented in the African American community is absurd.”

Perhaps you misunderstood. The social message is not being presented in the African American community by the NAACP.

“Star Parker is nothing but black for pay.”

I’m not sure what this means, but how do I get in on it? It may cost a little more in my case, though. I’ll need a little work to pass as black.

“I have lived in New Orleans. The lies Star Parker tells are so all encompassing that I can't invest the time in teasing them apart.”

I’ve lived in New Orleans as well. I haven’t seen Ms. Parker lie about it. Please invest a little time to enlighten us. It might help if you also tried to invest a little brain power.

“The Christian right admits that these are all problems within its own community. ... Why don't they merely tend to their flock?”

To the “Christian right”, everyone is a member of their flock. They are not targeted to a particular group, like the NAACP. The NAACP, meanwhile, as Ms. Parker pointed out, does not seem quite as interested in addressing the problems within their community, as addressing the financial problems within their leadership.

Robert
Were you in the crowd throwing Oreos at Mr. Steele,

Or were you one that did not complain when MSM depicted Dr Rice either as a big-lipped crow or Aunt Jemima?

Did you complain when General Powell and Doctor Rice were compared to house slaves?

If you did complain, good for you.
If not, why not?

Demosthenes
I always have to ask when I see comments like "Society should not legislate morality, nor should it finance/subsidize amorality," whether the individual professing such a position proposes anarchy?

Whereas I completely agree that government should not finance or subsidize amorality I have to ask how you can make the statement that society should not legislate morality. Do you not want laws against murder and assault? Do you not want your property rights to be protected by your government? Do you not want laws that provide penalties to those who commit securities violations or that regulate banks? Are not all of these examples of society legislating morality? Most of our nation's laws are based upon Judeo-Christian ethics and they are clear examples of the legislation of morality.

Groups that succeed
It is apparent to me as well as to this author that any group that is formed to achieve a purpose and then that actually achieves that purpose must find another purpose in order to survive. The NAACP is one such organization that achieved its original purpose and then found ways to keep its members sufficiently agitated to keep power in the hands of men like Julian Bond. If the organization were true to its original purpose the achievement of people like Condoleeza Rice, Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, Walter Williams, Michael Steele, Colin Powell and Bill Cosby would be applauded, not ridiculed as being black only on the outside. The real purpose of this organization is to retain a certain degree of power in the hands of people like Mr. Bond, not to allow power to men like Mr. Gordon.

Parker
God Bless Star Parker! She and many out there like her continue to educate all of us no matter what our skin color! As to the stupid comments by the so called all accepting liberals about her on this board my suggestion to you is do your homework. Star has walked both sides of the fence. Read about her and read her books. You just might learn something. What are you afraid of????

Robert
I would say that the apparent inability of the "disadvantaged" portion of the N.O. population to take any action whatsover to help themselves during Katrina is absolute proof of Star's position. That's your welfare state in action.

Must Black = Leftist?
Ms. Parker correctly points out that there was once real work for the NAACP to do, and real injustices that had to be fought. And the NAACP fought. No reasonable person can deny that, IMO. That organization was on the front lines, & it gained a lot of well-deserved cred for it. That is why so much of the American populace of African heritage follows its lead and repects its positions if not actually belongs to it.

That being said, Ms. Parker was also correct to point out that the NAACP stands foursquare for just about every left-wing big Sugar Daddy Welfare State position out there, and spends that 'cred' promoting those causes & creating the appearance if not the reality that the minority community they profess to serve supports it. It also preaches to its served community a message that looks suspiciously like "socialism is good for you. It is your salvation."

There is a reason for that. Dr. W.E.B. DuBois, the founder of the NAACP, professed admiration for Marxism and Communism and in his later years even tried to persuade the American Communist Party to admit him as a memeber. Prominent Socialists helped organize and support the NAACP. It would appear that some in the NAACP's leadership and support actually planned to acquire "cred" in the battle for basic civil rights that they could then use to promote leftist causes. It is ironic and to the lasting detriment of conservatism (modern Goldwater/Reagan conservatism beginning in the mid-1960's when the racial civil rights movement was already in its prime) that the Left got this one vital issue right and have milked it ever since.

The civil rights movement has long stated its goal as 'equality,' yet now their purpose has morphed into getting special treatment (i.e. "affirmative action," "set-asides," "hate crimes laws," etc) and into advocacy for big government generally. This is not only effectively an abandonment of stated principle, but arguably a denial of the plain meaning and manifest intent of the 14th Amendment. The objective of equal opportunity for prosperity seems to have given way to "get-even" & "give me stuff" & "knock this chip off my shoulder." Instead of assimilation and unity, we have a new racial balkanization. The Left now actively looks for some kind of racial angle in every issue because there are such broad, open-ended doctrines for federal intervention in the name of racial civil rights.

The NAACP is a very top-down controlled organization. I saw how some of that worked when an SC chapter protested the national org's interminable economic boycott against SC for displaying a confederate flag (specifically, the "battle flag" actually associated with Virginia.) There is a national officer, not the president or the chairman, but an office I believe was called the "field operations secretary" which it appears has unlimited authority to dismiss chapter officers and dissolve chapters that don't toe the line.

The institution of slavery has been gone so long no one now living personally remembers anyone who had been a slave. The dogs and firehoses and literacy tests and "white only" signs and back-of-the-bus have gone forever and are recalled only by older adults. Even those who went to segregated schools for even one year are getting on up in years. It is futile and pathetic to continue to obsess over such things when the modern Left threatens all of us regardless of race with present and future economic thralldom and effective political disenfranchisement. It's time to ask "Okay, that's what you did yesterday, but where are you leading me today, & why should I want to go there?" The path such outfits as the NAACP leads one down don't seem to lead to real prosperity and equality.

Robert
The only reason there are more white junkies, unwed mothers, people on welfare, etc. is because whites comprise well over half the population of the United States, and blacks are at about 12%, with hispanics and asians gaining fast.

The percentage of black unwed mothers, junkies, people on welfare, etc. is well ABOVE their percentage of the population, just like blacks are disproportionately represented in the prisons. Blacks comprise more than 50% of the populations of prisons, where they rate about 12% of the population.

Care to explain that??

Also, the Great Society social experiment of the 60s can now be called an utter failure. All they did was reduce black men to the level of sperm donor, instead of provider, husband, resident father.

What are young men who have little responsibility wont to do? They destroy things and commit crimes.....do the math.

Packrat
Great reply. The fact that blacks are far more racist than whites should not be a surprise. I hear the "N" word daily, from the mouths of blacks on the train or metro. I cheer the rise of Powell, Dr Rice, or Michael Steele while the racists in the Dhimmicrats taunt them or chuck Oreos at them. Dispicable.

Star Parker's 3/12/07 Column
How sad that such a wonderful origanization like the NAACP in the past should die out. So much work is needed in black homes I hope someone will be able address the problems of black homes. Maybe the NAACP should go back to the churches they started from.
Mary Swann

Don't EVER Rely on Stereotypes
While I respect Ms. Parker's opinions on various issues, it must be stated that she doesn’t speak for the entire black community. It is amazing how some seek to treat the African American Community as a monolithic group. When you refer to African Americans as "blacks" or "the blacks",it sounds as if you are addressing a child or a person unable to reason. Just because someone shares a similar ethnic background does not mean they all think alike and that they have identical experiences. Treat everyone as individuals. Never underestimate, undervalue, or marginalize a group by making broad statements that at best apply to a small percentage of an particular ethnic group. Not doing so shows ignorance, not compassion.

Well Put Star
Why have African-Americans as a group underachieved for so long? There are some African-American models to admire (Bill Cosby, Condi Rice, Colin Powell, Hank Aaron, MLK, etc.) who have risen above the I'm a victim mentality to be great success stories. Why is it that the MSM chooses to glorify parasites like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Julian Bond and William Jefferson? For the sake of our country we have to care that many do not take responsiblity for their actions (drugs, crime, sloth). Read some of what Bill Cosby is saying. Tough words but spoken honestly because he cares and because he feels that he needs to speak up.

Naacp
This article is dead on target.
Julian Bond and his cronies are living (and want to stay) in the past!

Great Job Star !
It seems that slowly, ever so slowly, prominent Black Leaders (not Jesse or Al) are coming to side with Bill Cosby, Star Parker and Walt Williams.

The NAACP could again be an organization for helping the Black community, but you have to dump Jesse, Al and Julian Bond first !

You can bet the (D)s will do all they can to prevent this from ever happening !

NAACP
Just a side note on the NAACP.

The NAACP needs to get out of churches !

Church is for worshiping God, but the NAACP has invaded the Sanctuary and turned God's House into a House of Politics, very much like the Pharisees did in the time our Lord Jesus was preaching in the Synagogs.

Pastors, get the politics out of God's House !

“Were you in the crowd throwing Oreos at Mr. Steele,”

I don't know who Mr. Steele is. Give me a first name and I'll look him up when I have the time. I don't know how to respond about the Oreo thing. It is the kind of stunt I generally associate with college republicans who are seemingly unendingly creative in using foodstuffs for political theater.

I personally don't have problems with African American conservatives per se. There conservatism is certainly as legitimate as any others and indeed many aspects of it are expressions of central themes in African American Culture. But I do have problems with African Americans who further the misconceptions and lies about the African American community. The African American community is one with a long and complicated history that has brought forth cultural features that are hard to truly understand if you have not been a part of the culture or have not seriously studied it. In this sense it could be in some ways considered analogous to the Catholic or Jewish cultures or even for that matter southern white culture. If your a member of one of these cultures or one that is similar you might get what I mean.

I'll give you one example. The breakdown of the family, drug use and violence are endemic to poverty itself. Thus people often talk about white trash. If you don't know what I mean watch some Jerry
Springer. Similar traits are associated with Mexicans and in the past have been to other ethnic groups such as Italians and Irish. Asians in general present a special case. Since immigration from Asia is expensive Asian immigrants have on the whole been more wealthy and educated than their European or South American cousins.

In many ways African Americans are stuck at the second generation level of immigrant. Like second generation immigrants they speak English natively and like second generation immigrants they aren't really welcomed into American society.

Ah, but you say African Americans are welcomed into American society. I am going to assume you're genuine in considering what I say is true. Think back on your life and the life of your parents and the life's of your grand parents. Your grand parents probably fought for our country in WWII. There service gave them a leg up in job interviews and probably gave them an entré into the middle class. The probably bought a car. But they didn't need one because they lived in the city and their was an excellent public transport system. Eventually they moved out to the suburbs.

The African American came back to racial segregation and an economy that no longer needed skilled African American labour. They swept up in office your grandparents worked in. That is until the company moved with your Grandparents out to the suburbs. The buses did go out to the suburbs but only ran on a schedule for the maids. The African American Father could get to work but had no way to get back.

Your parents had a stable home. Probably mother stayed home. They went to good schools. State subsidized college education or vocational training awaited them and there was no holding them back.

Their African American counterparts where stuck downtown in schools that stunk. Both parents worked yet the combined income kept the family in a constant state of stress. Some went to college, vocational school, or the army and excelled. Those who weren't smart or lucky stayed. Affirmative action whisked even more of the middle class African Americans off into the suburbs. More businesses left the city. Those who remained were leaderless, less bright, and without career opportunities. Even a hard working African American man had to compete with welfare for the affections of an African American woman. If you've ever been poor, you would know that a steady check beats good intentions every time. Those who remained in the city experienced the same ills of all urban poor—family disintegration, drug use, and violence. Because they lived in America, a uniquely violent country, they were especially violent.

Even so African American culture kept the majority of the people on a productive path most of the time. But having missed the great elevating effect of the Truman-Eisenhower years, they have been kept on the brink. Whether you want to believe it or not, this is endemic of American society. Statistically there is very little upward mobility since the 1970's. If you are born poor, chances are you are going to die poor. Are there people who beat the odds, and break out? Sure, but statistically they are insignificant, whether they are black or white.

Even today racism is a significant downward force on African Americans. If you want to understand how this works, think back on your life. Think of all the close calls where things would have been very different, if you didn't get a job or find the a house in a good neighborhood for a lucky price. It takes so little to change things in a big way. A taxi who refuses to pick you up can so easily be a lost job. A invite to a party can be the difference between rising to the top and staying in the mail room. The African American is going to lose so many of these little battles. And, for a certain percentage, that little bit can make a huge difference.

“Or were you one that did not complain when MSM depicted Dr Rice either as a big-lipped crow or Aunt Jemima?

Did you complain when General Powell and Doctor Rice were compared to house slaves?”

This is a complicated issue. I think everybody is disappointed in Powell and Rice. Many thought that Powell would be president. But he feel on the sword for Bush. It really hurt a lot of people. Rice has had all the advantages that so many African Americans didn't have. And, plus she is by all accounts a genius. But unless she brings peace to the middle east, she will never be compared to Kissinger. People are frustrated with the situation and perhaps express it unfortunately. But to put it in perspective compare these representations to the way that Supreme Court Justices who were appointed by conservatives only to turn liberal have been treated by the conservative media. It would be nice if we lived in a more civil society, but we don't.

Carol

I suggest you go rent a few versions of the Titanic, read about the sacking of Rome, and the reaction to the volcano in Pompeii. Also in fiction read the Lord of the Flies. We'd like to think that every responds to a catastrophe with Godlike heroic courage. But the reality is far far different, for the majority of people. Even in New York where everybody but those in the immediate area were safe not only from physical pain but even property loss , there was considerably less heroism than would have been hoped. Just one example, you think the bastion conservative bravado, rolled up their sleeves and help rebuild Manhattan. Think Again!!!! Though their willing to send our troops into untold danger at a drop of hat, they took one sniff of the smoke from the towers and high tailed it off to New Jersey (Not even terrorist want to be associated with the garden state making it the perfect refuge for the cowardly).

His name is Michael Steele, was a candidate (R) for Maryland governor.

The wikipedia version of the incident is: "[edit] Oreo cookie incident
After a September 26, 2002 gubernatorial debate, which had occurred without reported incident, Paul Schurick, Ehrlich's communications manager, claimed that the Townsend campaign handed out Oreo cookies to the audience.[7] Five days after the debate, Steele said that one or more Oreo cookies had rolled to his feet during the debate suggesting a racist statement against him. "Maybe it was just someone having their snack, but it was there," Steele said. "If it happened, shame on them if they are that immature and that threatened by me." At the time of the debate, Schurick had not mentioned any such incident, but in November 2005 he claimed "It was raining Oreos... They were thick in the air like locusts. I was there. It was very real. It wasn't subtle."[8] In a November 2005 Hannity and Colmes appearance, Steele agreed with Hannity that cookies were thrown at him. [4] Neil Duke of the Baltimore NAACP, who moderated the debate, praised the "passionate audience" and noted their "derisive behavior"[7] but did not see this behavior. "Were there some goofballs sitting in [the] right-hand corner section tossing cookies amongst themselves and acting like sophomores, as the legend has it?" Duke said. "I have no reason to doubt those sources; I just didn't see it."[8][5] [6]. The operations manager of the building where the debate was held, interviewed three years after the event by the Baltimore Sun, disputed Steele's claim and said "I was in on the cleanup, and we found no cookies or anything else abnormal. There were no Oreo cookies thrown."[8] Some eyewitnesses including AP reporter Tom Stuckey who was at the event have said cookies were handed out.[7][8] Other eyewitnesses could not corroborate Steele and Schurick's claim. [9] [10]

However, on September 16, 2006, U.S. Representative Benjamin Cardin's campaign had to fire a junior staffer that ran a blog on behalf of the Cardin campaign. The blog entries indicated that Cardin staff members had to be careful and secret about eating Oreo cookies because "The subterfuge would be unnecessary, and snack time would be far less amusing, had an angry citizen not thrown the aforementioned delicious snack food at one of our opponents to comment on his lack of racial loyalty," the blog entry reads.

Now you know most of the story.

Robert ,by the way
My father's parents died before he reached the age of six, my maternal grandfather was too old for WWII, was a sharecropper, grandmother worked in laundry and a truck stop most of her life. My father joined Air Force as WWII started, died when I was six.

You assume way too much based on stereotypes.
Not every body grew up like Beaver Cleaver, in fact dog-gone few of us did.

You are correct on one thing. Much of the societal problems are more poverty than race. That is why Bill Cosby is pushing so hard for people of color to quit using whitey as an excuse. Yes, I am very aware of white trash, saw plenty of them growing up. Don't have to watch Jerry Springer, I can drive down the street and look.

You are disappointed in Dr. Rice, former Provost of Stanford University, plus a number of other firsts/ Does she have to be perfect to not disappoint you? You might even look at:

Nice chatting with you.

You said "It is amazing how some seek to treat the African American Community as a monolithic group. Never underestimate, undervalue, or marginalize a group by making broad statements that at best apply to a small percentage of an particular ethnic group. Not doing so shows ignorance, not compassion."

True, every individual is unique, but you cannot ignore the commonality of a group. For example, you can say that most Chinese are short, even though the tallest player in the NBA is Chinese. Similarly, you can say fatherless families are devastating the black community, even though there are plenty of fine intact black families. But, the fact remains fatherless families is at the heart of the problems faced by blacks. Stereotypes don't happen overnight. They have roots and are developed over time as a result of repetitve actions or displays by a large percent of a group. And, by pointing out these common traits of a group does not make the one pointing them out ignorant or lacking compassion. You have to meet these common problems head on if they are to be fixed, even with the possiblity of offending a few.
