Look to the Webb campaign for the real racists

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

While the mud gets thrown, the real issues that need to be addressed are pushed to the sidelines. Is it any wonder that the country's many problems are ignored, accumulate and get worse?

Racism is one of the more popular allegations for the sleaze sleuths to dredge up. The Democratic operatives who found a few individuals, who for whatever reason want to damage George Allen, must have been thrilled with their find.

Again, whether or not the allegations are true, the operatives have done their job and have hurt Allen and can cash in for themselves. Does anyone think for a minute that these operatives care about blacks and improving their troubled lives?

Forget it. Today race is not an issue that is raised out of concern for the exploited. It is raised to exploit. The objective of the Webb campaign is to slander Allen and generate mistrust. There is no issue here about protecting black interests.

The fact is that Allen, with a conservative agenda to protect life and families, and to keep taxes low and limit the scope of government, would be far better for improving the lot of blacks in America today than his Democratic opponent.

But it would take some thought to appreciate this. The only thought the Webb campaign is interested in is how to smear Allen and brand him as a racist.

With the big-government formulas of the left irrelevant to dealing with black problems today _ of family breakdown and 50 percent high-school dropout rates in urban areas _ character assassination is the only thing left for Democrats to campaign on.

Voters should understand that today's real racists are those who choose to play political games while blacks languish as a growing underclass in America's cities.

What the ... ??
Big belly writes that Webb's waiting to "cash in" on the campaign like Lamont and that "Webb's campaign managers have already set events in motion by sending limos and private jets for Sharpton,Jackson and Maxine "wierd hats" Waters to accomodate their busy schedules."

NRALifer calls him a "liberal" and a "quitter".

Where do you guys come up with this garbage?

NRALifer, perhaps you are not familiar with Webb's strong pro-second amendment stance. It's totally indistinguishable from Allen's. And since you seem to be impugning his character, upon what do you base the assertion that he's a quitter? He spent four years in the Reagan Administration, not 10 months as misrepresented by that lying campaign ad. And he resigned rather than see a reduction in the Navy's fleet. He was a policy level guy. If he disagreed with the policy then he had no choice but to resign or to do something that offended his conscience. As for the "liberal" tag. You really crack me up with that one. I guess you mean by that he isn't blindly in favor of going to war without an exit strategy or a decent plan for the occupation. Maybe that's because he knows what it's like to kill and have people trying to kill you and thinks we should only do that when we have to.

And Bigbelly -- Mr. Webb was doing quite well without having to "cash in" on the campaign. He's got plenty of money, so what's your point? You talk about people like Sharpton and Waters. Where the heck did that come from? His campaign never had any money until the last couple of weeks ago and I haven't seen anything about limos for Sharpton or Waters. Oh, I get it, you're just throwing it out there because it'll get the more ignorant readers of this column all twisted up. It's misinformation deliberately put out there to manipulate people instead of making them focus on issues. Well, carry on, you're a worthy acolyte of George (I never met an issue I really wanted to debate) Allen.

Getting Tired of Same Old Saw
I'm getting tired of hearing all this nonsense about Webb's campaign discussing Allen's racism while poor old George just wants to talk about issues.

Webb has never been focused on Allen's racism, even though the issue has been pervasive thanks to Allen's own persistent missteps and outright lies (Does anyone really believe that a confederate-obsessed young man never once used the n-word?). A few days ago Webb even refused comment when flatly asked by Wolf Blitzer to give one.

Webb keeps asking everyone to get back on the issues. Instead, we were treated to Wolf Blitzer asking him THREE times about an article he wrote 27 years ago. Then, when Webb finally asked whether they could just talk about foreign policy Wolf wanted instead to discuss whether Webb thinks Allen is a racist. Webb DECLINED.

This is all a lot of crap. Webb desperately wants to talk about issues. Allen, on the other hand, claims to want to talk about issues, but is running nothing but a smear campaign consisting of finding middle aged women who think Webb insulted them when they were 20 years old. I think the latest ad from Allen is one where Webb is accused of being for higher taxes. Did the Republicans actually quote any speech or read any Webb position paper to make this assertion? NO. They simply named a couple of liberals and said Webb wants to be like them. Absolutely pathetic.

If Allen wants to talk issues, why doesn't he?

By the way, I see no mention in your column of the fact that Allen refused to debate Webb in front of the NAACP, even though Allen claims that he's much more in tune with African Americans than Webb. What's he afraid of?
