Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Like my Marine brothers who fought alongside me in the Battle of Fallujah, I know a little something about choices.

When the nosecones of 767 passenger jets punched into the Twin Towers, my choice was simple to make. My choice was not, as the patchouli-smelling Berkeley hippies would have you believe, the duplicitous work of “salespeople known to lie to and seduce minors and young adults into contracting themselves into military service with false promises.” By that rationale, car salesmen are responsible for the 40,000 Americans who will die this year on the nation’s highways.

Nice try.

No, as shocking as it may be to radical anti-military haters, the overwhelming majority of young soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines like myself are deeply proud of the choice we made. As shocking as it may seem to the Code Pink crowd, we feel blessed to have been given the chance to defend our nation and be steeled and shaped by those charged with leading us.

Ironically, for people who claim to be “tolerant,” “open-minded,” and “peace-loving,” theBerkeley protestors and their ilk proved just what a sham their operation truly is. If they were really interested in saving the lives of innocents, they would listen to the countless stories veterans bring back from Iraq about pivotal moments of decision that saved lives—both American and Iraqi.

I remember standing in the blinding sun looking through a sweat-drenched brow at the mortars exploding all around. We were the only unit with a view of the mortars’ suspected origin. I had a choice to make. As a young corporal, it was my job to decide whether or not to unleash our firepower at the suspected source of the incoming mortars. Make the wrong choice, kill innocent civilians. Hesitate, watch Marine brothers die.

I made my decision: hold fire. I could not get a clear look at the area. Later, we learned the area had only farmers and schoolchildren.

Much to the chagrin of the Code Pink crowd, we Marines are not blood-thirsty warmongers bent on killing innocents. Anyone who experiences combat comes away with a deeper and more pure understanding of just how sacred and special human life truly is. You don't walk away from the battlefield with the same perspective you brought to it. And you don't hold the lives of your brothers—and of innocent civilians—in your hands and continue to see life in the same way.

No, like most Iraq veterans, I didn't find broken promises serving with the Marines. I found the courage and discipline to become the man I always wanted to be. That man has a strong streak of peace within him, something the Berkeley peace-loving hippies should appreciate.

I fell in love with the people of the Middle East while fighting for them, and my heart goes out to them. I plan to move to Egypt next year as a Christian missionary to reach out to their needy, and when the war's over I plan to return to Iraq, this time without my M-16.

But if Berkeley has its way, the young men and women of their city won't have the freedom to make one of the most honorable choices they could ever make—the right to defend their country. Instead, they would rather make the decision for them, imposing their will upon their people. That does not sound like the freedom I fought for.

While in Iraq, I wrote an “Open Letter to America” that was aimed at the very people who make up Berkeley's city council. You can read the letter in its entirety here. I supported their right to free speech; after all, I was fighting for it, not to mention losing friends for that cause. But I strongly questioned their so-called support-the-troops-but-not-the-war stance. Angry, I called them ignorant, naïve, hippie puppets.

After my tour of duty ended I hoped I was wrong, that I had written that letter out of my own ignorance. But the Berkeley city council proves everything I said in that letter was true. Thankfully, the American Legion and Move America Forward stood up and said “Enough.”

Groups like Code Pink and the Berkeley city council don't care about freedom. They only care about saddling another generation—my generation—with their hippie-loving propaganda.

"Free speech for me, but not for thee"
Says the liberal.

"I don't agree with what you say, but will defend to my death your right to say it." Says the conservative.

Maybe we SHOULD change that conservative message at long last to read, "Free speech for thee as long as there is free speech for me too."

(Thank you for your service Sgt. Good job.)

Outstanding..God Bless you for serving our country

Thank you Sgt. Conner
We must always be vigilant of our government. That requires us to debate and re-evaluate military deployments, what those deployments are accomplishing, and their strategic value.

But that must be done with the realization that our military is made up of the noblest fighting force on the planet.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice Sergeant.

Thank you Sgt.
Well spoken.

My prayers for your missionary work.

A Marine Missionary, it doesn't get any better than that!

Thank you, Sir!
Words cannot express how much we appreciate you, Sgt. Conner. Thank you, Sir, for all you've done for me to have the right to type these words.

And thanks to all your brother Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen. We love you guys and gals. Thank you never seems sufficient.

Semper Fi!

The Protestors
A Goldberg column in the recent "National Review" took great pains to point out that if you strip out the genocide and bigotry, the basic socieo-economic goals and tactics to bring them about of fascism are usually much the same as those of today's far Left in America.

As I read about those shrill Code Pink women harassing and vandalizing the recruiting office with the expressed consent and support of the Berkeley City Council, I could not help but think of Hitler Youth groups sent out into the streets with the consent and support of their Nazi handlers to harass and vandalize the lives of "undesireables" in the 1930s.

Fascists tactics under the excuse of waging "anti-fascism". I suppose the ends justifies the means...even if we still end up with the tactics and apparatus of fascism at the end of the day.

Hmm. Berkeley. I wonder if they still refer to Willard Park as Ho Chi Minh Park there? Or have they renamed it in honor of some other murderous totalitarian figure recently?

Sgt.
Thank you for your service. Semper Fi.

Because religious republics work so well
... like in Iran.

There's a reason why we have free speech; because people take the time to think and reason and consider and DOUBT.

You don't do that when you are so far into a particular religious creed that you no longer need to think and doubt and consider because you've already got the faith in the right answer.

As a liberal, I do not like Code Pink, nor do I like the "Anti war" protestors who call soldiers baby killers. The recruiting stations themselves are wonderful! I fully support a station in university campuses around the country. Many young liberals or those with a liberal bent sign up to defend their country, and they also provide a new sense of looking at things that the armed forces, like any other part of the country, should be open to.

Who would deny all those young Republicans of the Union army in 1861-5 who fought for the noblest liberal ideals of freedom from slavery and the Union their right to both be soldiers and liberal at the same time? Certainly not me.

I think everybody should have that chance, liberal or conservative, and that's completely separate from the policy directives that put soldiers in harm's way. You are a soldier; you fight for your country, and if your country says do this, unless it's genocide or the most heinous of war crimes, then you must do it, no matter your political bent.

That means that the policies that direct the soldiers must be considered. I don't think they've been considered enough by either side (Since the Surge obviously works- But are we willing, as a nation, to put in the sacrifices to sustain it? Not just soldiers, but ordinary citizens who complain about high taxes.)

Do we really support the troops? I hope we did.

An honorable choice indeed
For those of us who have serve, will never forget basic training to permanent duty. It is indeed an experience the youth will never forget. You not only get the experience, but you bond with others you never knew and come away closer to them then you own family. Your more then a team member, your part of of family that will never die, no matter where you serve. Your uniform says so, as you cross paths with members of other branches of service. You all know, we're family. No one forces anyone to join, but those in uniform knows that it took personal time, questions asked, and a decision on their own to be in the uniform they wear. Most of those who have join will say, since I was a kid I wanted to join the Marines or one of the other branches. I don't ever remember speaking with another GI, who said he joined because he had a low IQ, but a deep desire to serve and see the world. Like everything else life is full of changes. No one that I knew ever said if I knew there was going to be a war I would have never joined. Something like that never enters the mind of a person when they want to wear the uniform of their country. There's another choice a person makes in joining. They choose to leave behind the civilian mentally for that of a military mind. There is no way, they can both exist while serving in the military. This is the problem most colleges face today. They want to apply civilian thinking into military objectives like protecting this country.

Thank You, Sgt. Connor!
On behalf of my family and future generations, thank you for your service. It is hoped that your good work and the others in the military will result in peace in Iraq, as well as a new ally in the region. Just as Japan has become democratic and an ally of the US, your work, with God's help, may result in the same for the people of Iraq.
Also, keep writing!!

Sgt Conner
I salute you and all the soldiers, sailors, airmen (hooah!), and MARINES who are serving, have served and made the ultimate sacrifice. Those wacky Berkley and code pink libs no nothing of duty, honor, country, integrity, or service before self.
I thank you and salute you.

KC
Msgt(Ret) USAF

Thank You
Thank you for your service!! You make me proud to be an American. God Bless!

God Bless you and God Bless America
It is almost frightening how American's can live here, but reject everything our country's founding fathers began. Thank you sir for your commitment to God and Country. It is sad when people of faith, morals and character are verbally attacked for their faith, morals and character. Shouldn't it be a good thing to believe in God? Shouldn't it be a good thing to have some point of reference that gives clarity to the truth? ALL 12 step programs refer to a "higher power" - this is NOT a new concept. Our country needs to have an awakening and it's not to kick God out of the United States- we need him ALL the time. Amazing isn't it how we as a country rallied with people of faith after 911. Why can't we acknowlege him in ALL things and not just crisis????? I believe in the separation of church and state, but I also believe in the Freedom of Religion.

Automatic
5 stars. Great job in both places.

Sgt. Conner
As the sister of an active duty Marine all I can say is God Bless you and your men. I agree whole heartedly with what you say.

Semper Fi, Marine

Thank you!
The most upsetting part of the protests to me is the fact that they are so deeply entrenched in our universities--which in turn produce the teachers in our schools. Parents send their students off to college often unaware of the indoctrination they will face there. Look long and hard at the institutions to which your student applies. They have a lot to lose! The academic elites have declared that they don't care what values parents have tried to instill in their children. Give them four years, and they will straighten them out.

Thank you, Sergeant, for your service and your very important message. I look forward to reading your book. More uplifting news about our troops can be found if you search on Task Force Marne. It's the info site for the 3rd division in Iraq. It's the news you wish you would see in the MSM.
Blessings, Kathy

Let Freedom Ring
Seth says "Groups like Code Pink and the Berkeley city council don't care about freedom."
True, of course.

But unfortunately, there are many other groups in America about which the same can be said - starting with the U.S. congress.

Read the Declaration of Independence. The Constitution. Jefferson. Lincoln's speeches -- not just the Gettysburg Address -- prominently displayed inside his memorial on the mall in D.C.

Then compare the words of those freedom loving, liberty loving, greatest of all Americans to the reality of life as an American citizen today.

Freedom? What a sham.

I spent 20 years of my life serving this country in the military, "defending freedom." I was too stupid and naive to realize that what I thought I was helping defend had already been stolen generations before I was even born.

And now, massas Obama and Hillary want to create even more so called "entitlement" programs, to seize a little more liberty.

Freedom ain't easy. And it ain't always pretty. But it sure beats slavery, or indentured servitude. If a socialist makes it to the big house, I'm going to quit working and go on the welfare gravy train. Or at least work for the government (but I repeat myself).

You're the best of US
Soldiers like yourself, Sgt, have did more to improve our relations with the Mideast than all the politicians' visits and foreign aid to corrupt regimes we've made thus far. Thanks for your service from a 1st Marine Division represented family member. Semper Fi

HooYa
Great article and thank God for war! It's a shame that those peace loving hippies don't understand that we need wars to thin out the herds from time to time.. And I made a bundle in defense/oil stocks. Thanks for defending my right to make money off of your playing John Wayne in a country that NEVER poised a threat to our security no matter what the lying neocons say.

raoul
Talk is cheap, and yours cheaper than most. As an old man who has seen karma catch up with many a cheap shot artist, i smile thinking of what awaits you. Simply, you will never be happy, poisoned by your own venom.

Sgt Conner
You are the embodiment of all that is great about our country and our military. I'd rather know two marines than all of the bark-humping hippie freaks in CA. God bless Sergeant.

Thanks you Sgt. Conner & About Raoul
FIRST and foremost, Sgt. Conner, as an Army veteran I want to thank you for your service to our country. You deserve all of the praise you're getting here and then some.

Semper Fi, Marine

SECONDLY, I knew that sooner or later some liberal moron like Raoul would make a stupid comment.

I'd pay good money to see his smug face as some Johhny Jihad that he's defending here is sawing his head off with a dull knife.

Think he'll be calling our miliatry people "John Wayne's" then? Or will he be begging for one of them to come rescue him from his own stupidity?

Oh Robert
There is no such thing as a Christian Republic. That's a tired old straw man that gets dragged out everytime that someone wants to go live their faith in the marketplace, and it's not worthy of your time to utter.

U.S. Brought ‘Worst of America’ to Iraq

GOP Loyalist Says U.S. Brought ‘Worst of America’ to Iraq
Did Bush get the memo?

ABC-In a confidential memo, a long-time Republican operative who has served in the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad for the past year says the State Department’s efforts in Iraq are so poorly managed they “would be considered willfully negligent if not criminal” if done in the private sector.

“We have brought to Iraq the worst of America — our bureaucrats,” writes Manuel Miranda in the memo, which was addressed to U.S. Ambassador Ryan Crocker and cc’d to “ALCON” or “all concerned” at the State Department.

You are doing a job for which you are not prepared as a bureaucracy or as leaders,” Miranda writes. “The American and Iraqi people deserve better

Raoul . . .
. . . El Presidente?

Hmmm..
First, it was not 747's that hit the WTC towers.

But that aside,

those who believe there were no terrorists in Iraq, two words: Abu Abbas.
The day after we took bagdad we drove right up to his crib and snatched him. It was not by accident, he was there, a murderer of americans, under the protection of saddam.

Here's another word: Dhimmitude.
Islam offers you three choices, death, conversion to islam, or dhimmitude.

The choice is simple, fight and win, die, convert or enslavement.

Which do you choose?

Sct. Conner
"But I strongly questioned their so-called support-the-troops-but-not-the-war stance. Angry, I called them ignorant, naïve, hippie puppets."

Is this what you call the thousands of troops and veterans in and out of Iraq who oppose the war but support the troops? Do you support Rush's comment calling them "phony soldiers" too? The American Legion long ago gave up supporting the troops when they began supporting Bush's war and ignoring things like medical care. To quote Bob Dole: "Where were the VSO's?" Well we all know that answer - they were kissing Bush's ring and forgetting the troops.

John Konop
Don't forget the Rand study the Army is hiding. It slammed Bush Regime incompetence.

Sgt Relic
"... and you know as well as I do that Limbaugh was referring to soldier wannabies engaged in "stolen honor". "

Actually I heard that show and no he was not. He was doing what he does best -- trying a smear to see if he could get away with it. At least it cost him and his 4 mil and helped some soldiers kids. Next you will tell me Rush didn't compare a wounded Iraq vet to a suicide bomber?

"The answer to Mr. Dole's question is that the VSO's were at the VA facilities where they usually work providing benefit assistance, not medical care."

This is a war and they are supposed to support the troops and veterans - They didn't do that job well at all. They should be advocates and they were not thet became cheerleaders

Sgt Relic
FYI: Iraq is Bush's war he let Al Q go and now Al Q is in a position to threaten Pakistan and gain Afghanistan back. Perhaps it is time to consider results not propaganda?

Hal Doofus Strkes Again
Shut up Hal Doofus! You are just a bitter, passed-over LTC. All you ever did in the USAF was push papers around and try to use your rank to force your beliefs on lower ranking officers and enlisted personnel.

How many times were you "brought up on the carpet" by your superiors for doing this?

Verdict is in on this war. Deal with it.
If people want to be Christian missionaries and take the message of Jesus Christ to the muslim world, fine.

That's different from launching a war against a nation that didn't attack us, with Bush desperately invoking the need to bring democracy to the muslim world.

But is that not up to muslims? Tolerance and respect for dissent must come from them. We can't impose tolerance.

As we've seen, and been made embarrassingly clear EVEN to Bush, when muslims do adopt democratic institution of fair elections in Gaza, Lebanon, Egypt, who wins? Hamas, Hezbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, respectively.

Jack Mehoff, Bush is not advocating converting muslims to Christianity. He believes Islam to a religion of peace, compatible with western ideas of tolerance that undergird true democracy.

Perhaps you need to educate him of the practice of dhimmitude. Maybe he is ignorant of it. I would not be the least bit surprised.

American people do not believe the costs of invading, and nation-building, in Iraq were worth it.

And unlike Bush, Americans are not hopelessly naive about the nature of Islam.

"Islam", or, for those who still cling to their illusions, "radical Islam"(as if there is a fundamental difference between the two), is not compatible with tolerance and respect for dissent that are prerequisites of liberal democracies.

On Japan, it first had to disavow more militant aspects of Shintoism and belief the emperor was divine prior to democracy taking hold there. And we firebombed Tokyo, used nuclear weapons on other cities...the nation was totally prostrate, and we went in there dictated terms, even wrote their constitution.

Are some saying we must do in Iraq what we did in Japan? Use nukes on them, force them to disavow belief in Mohammad?

Japan is an insular nation, with an homogeneous population, unlike disparate peoples Brits and others grouped together to form modern Iraq after WW1.

And another thing, assshat Hal
You still insist that Rush was lying about that statement, yet you have never read PatriotDefender's Blog about all of that, now have you?
Of course not, because you are so convinced you're right and someone who NEEDS to be right all the time has an issue with facts and reality. Get a clue, Hal.

Boutte: Pa-lease! That has been refuted!

Bogus claim! Phoney! Fictitious! Spurious! Fraudulent! Sham!

Now you can put yourself in the same category as wobbie and halD! BUSTED!

Have a nice day!

HEY SARGE
Welcome! Great title for that book, btw. Thanks for your service.

And listen, never let the Code Pink morons or the Berkeley loons of the country get to you. These sad-sack, hopeless, self-hating losers (we've a got a few around here) will never understand the commitment and sacrifice of our fighting men and women.

Now you're making a difference right here in the USA. Good work! One more thing. About the code pink goof balls, the moveontraitors.org jerks, the Berkeley wack jobs and some other anti-military types, don't worry too much. If a hundred of them came at you it wouldn't be much of a fight. For that matter, an army of them wouldn't be any trouble. I doubt you'd work up a sweat.

Great you're back. Do me a favor will ya? Visit us anytime here at TH.

You're dumb enough to be cannon-fodder
and you'll probably get what you deserve: children with birth defects due to exposure to the residue of DU ordnance, the possibility of being blown up by an IED, serious psychological problems, and a massive middle finger from the Bush malAdministration.

Take a lesson from the Romney clan: The object of war is not to die for your country -- it's to have that idiot down the street die for your country.

If we ever go to war, we should REQUIRE that the draft-age children of our leaders serve not just in the military (think GWB's champagne squadron), but right on the front lines. That will make them think twice about getting us into needless wars.

To raoul, wobbie, Doofus et al...
As a hero comes home again, writes his story of a war in which he fought, made very difficult decisions concerning fellow marines, versus civilians in harms way. As it turned out, he chose the civilians safety over the safety of his brothers-in-arms. A decision not likely made without much fear for himself, and his marines. Unfortunately, you morons cannot stay on topic for just one comment that you post here. I feel sorry for you lugheads, as your pathetic, miserable, idiotic foolish minds must live a lonely unfullfilled existence in this world. My only wish is that you would make comments like this in the presence of one of these heros. Now that would be poetic justice.

adios
Perhaps later

Seth
Trust me: you will be able to hold your head up high for the rest of your life. The MoveOns, Code Pinkers, Phelpsers would be rightly ashamed if they ever woke up and realized what they do. They use (I'd say abuse) the freedom you gave them. Some of them will grow up, some won't. They are silly at best, vile at worst.
But you have honor for life.
Thank you for the decision you made, for defending America.

Robert/BeastieBoy
"convince their kids to go to the fight"

I thought this "convincing" is exactly what the Berkley council folks are protesting?

...and just for the record, men and women are not convinced to fight; they are asked to serve, and should they VOLUNTEER, they do so with the complete understanding that the service might include fighting, but that there is ever so much more service in uniform than fighting, even in a time of WAR.

Robert
Get off it already about President Bush's daughters.
Obviuously you don't have any kids. FYI, they don't do everything their parents do, say or tell them to do. (Did you?)
What a person's children do or don't do is a nonissue.

beastieboy
it's too bad our military can't be selective about whose freedoms they defend. If they could, I'd put you on a list to be left out.
I flagged your post as offensive.

Finally happened.....
The leftie useful idiots have arrived, uninvited, to criticize Sgt Conner and all the troops who serve. He has laid his life on the line in the best tradition of Marines for over two centuries. Sgt Conner, if you read the babblings of those retards, please consider the source.

I am a retired Army Green Beret of the Viet Nam era, and please let me thank you for your service to our country. God Bless you in the work ahead.

My favorite Ronald Reagan quote applies here: "It's not that our liberal friends are ignorant, it's just that so much of what they know isn't true." But as applied in this instance, he was too kind. Hal, donohue and their ilk are ignorant, plus they are stupid. They transfer their knee-jerk hatred of Bush to those who have chosen the honorable profession of arms.

What a waste of DNA hal, donohue and their ilk are!

Hey wobbie
heres another news flash!
There are about 280,000,000 others in the United States that chose not to serve in the military. Are they all related to the POTUS??????
Oh, thats right, its only about his kids. Your a coward and a moron. BDS BDS BDS, common lughead, say it with me!!!

Hal D

I am disappointed in you.
You usually are accurate in your comments.

Limbaugh did not call the soldiers who served and opposed the war " phony soldiers", he was referring to those who either never served or never got outside the continental US.
Neither are in a position to comment on the rigors of live combat.

Well Done, Conner

From a vet snfd the dad of a soldier and an airman, thanks for your service.

Well,Hal
Later for you, too. I sent that letter and copied your disrespectful and negative comments and sent them to Amderican Legion HQ. I will not put up with your bs. I have seen enough of your lying and now, we'll see what National thinks.

To all the trolls
y'all know who you are.....we sure do.
If you are gonna bring up the Rush thing again, first go stand and look at the letter from your "leaders". Stand and stare at that for about 15 minutes. Do you still want to associate with such igonrance. The people of this country spoke to the ignorance of Nanny-P, Ted swimmer kennedy, Harry white flag waving Reid and the rest of the dhimmicrats when we purchased the evidence of ignorance for national display. Oh...did I say it was IGNORANT???
The code pinko pukes will rreap the benifits of their ignorance also. Soon I hope.

Robert lies again.
Gawd.....Robert absolutely has no values....he lies about even having children and then about where they are/what they are doing.
Robert you are lower than whale $hit when you start using fictional children to further your LIES.

Nee
did you notice how quickly the Doofus split when you wrote that you were gonna zag the Legions national HQ about the lies he spews here? HAHA
He ran faster than wobbie runs to the Wal-Mart Helo pad!!!!

Note to:
The likes of Hal the disgruntled ex LtCol, WOBBIEDACHICKENSH!TBULLSH!TER, And the rest of you military hating types. You would not know Honor if it came up and bit you on your low life arses.
You get an F and a Y you cowards.

Five starts Sgt. But only because that’s as high as TH goes!
Sgt. Seth Conner, Thanks for your service. Indeed, thank all who serve with Honor and courage!
HEY WOBBIEDACHICKENSH!TBULLSH!TER, YOU EVER ANSWER TAIL2LONG or Tinsldr2 .MIL ADDY YET? Didn't think so, Coward !

Write in a name folks, it is still a free country! Well, until McQuack comes up with more ideals on how to kill free speech.

50 Stars for Sgt. Seth Conner!
__The Code Stinkin' Pink crowd, Berkley brained dead hippy's, and all of their ilk, are arm chair war veterans. Veterans of an army, who's commander in chief, promises them the world of self, and self-love. These people never faced a situation of turbulence requiring personal action to overcome its cause, as there trust is in the world. A choice they make in order to deny the truth of their responsibility to fellow humans. These people will gladly rally around a program meant to assist others, as it gives someone else the responsibility, thereby washing their hands of the situation. Their passions are not of saving the lives of Americas brave men, and women, who fight this war against the evil of terrorism. Instead it is of the same evil, with a different face. Remember those passionate pleas of the democrat leadership, "We're losing this war!", as they rallied their troops. The left recognized the voice, and power, that built this republic had been awakened. A unified voice that, they thought, had been lulled into a deep sleep. Sgt. Conner is one, of many voices, who are now insuring they are going to lose this war. A Unifying voice of truth, and our responsibility to each other with the Word of Truth.

jerabaub writes:

You better check your history Commrade.

Joint Resolution to Authorize the Use of United States Armed Forces Against Iraq

“Whereas the current Iraqi regime has demonstrated its continuing hostility toward, and willingness to attack, the United States, including by attempting in 1993 to assassinate former President Bush and by firing on many thousands of occasions on United States and Coalition Armed Forces engaged in enforcing the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council;”

Iraq committed several acts-of-war against the USA and we were more that justified by attacking Iraq based on the cease fire of the first Gulf War.

sarge
thanks brother and semper fi! Robert i hate to even bring your commie name up in the same post as this honorable mans. Stop speaking for america, You sit behind your key pad and blather on about america not wanting to fight etc...you woul never have the balls to say this crap to any marines face, just like your bretheren on the left. You all may get your wish this year and one of the left may become president. As that little troll in Iran, is salivating for, Then as we are drawn to war with another dictator, that saw your vote for a weak military stance lets his bombs fly, or terrorists kill more innocent people. You left wing fools will be scrathing your heads,"we voted for peace" why doesn't he understand? idiots , innocents, also i am sick of you jerks saying Bush's kids should serve. Thats their decision, i hang out with plenty of people who never served, what the hell does that mean? The same argument could be said that people who never served should never run for president! right Robert? there goes your canidates! Also why doesn't hillarys daughter serve? Her mom voted for the war!Do you ever stop and think of how hypocrytical you on the left are? Just like global warming, that only was found once a rebublican is in office? Why didn't gore care when he was vice pres? The next 4 yrs , like the last time a lib was president, could cause major damage ,to the country, and the militaries strength. .

Excellent article
Excellent article, thanks for sharing, and thanks for keeping us free to choose liberty.

Thank you for your service
My son in law just got back a month ago from Afghanistan and returns to service as a police officer. My daughter works for a clinic specializing in the repair of hearts. They both work in Search/Rescue in their spare time. I am a TaeKwonDo instructor. Our club is made up mostly of fire/police/medical people. I have worked at a National Guard base in the summer in security.

I also am a teacher in a public school, and even though most of my fellow teachers are liberal, a small percentage do serve in a limited capacity. I serve as a counterbalance to them and my students respect me for it.

MY point? In my experience, it is not the liberals who serve. They are the ones who need to be served and they believe it is their right to be served.

Maybe only a Marine or ex-marine can say Semper Fi to you, sir. But you get my point. Without guys like you, we will not have a country or society as we know it or want it.

If you are anything like 90% of the people that I associate with, you will keep on serving even after your obligation is technically done.

God Bless You!

Liberals
When liberals are "concerned", the rest of us get a new layer of taxation and regulation.

I believe their reactions come from a deeply imbedded insecurity. Like three year olds, they have an Off/On switch. If an issue is important to them, it it vitally important--10 on a scale of 10. If it is important to someone outside their group, it is a 1. And not only is it a 1, they then MUST denegrate and tear down their opponents. Very childish. Very scary.

Dvangura
I don't think the term "commrade" applies, even with your misspelling or insinuation that I am a(gasp)"comm"unist. Again, the clueless trot out accusations that if one does not wholeheartedly support this administration on Iraq, one is either a traitor or a "comm"unist.

Well, if that is the case, then well over 60% of Americans are either traitors or communists.

On this issue, the joint resolution was little more than window dressing, figleaf, for the justification of the act. It provided a narrow legal basis for an action, but did nothing to explain the underlying rationale for the war, which was the belief by Bush the political landscape in the mideast must change, beginning with Iraq.

That is why Bush constantly invokes "democracy" regarding Iraq. He says nothing about a 1993 assassination plot, nor anything about violation of resolutions. The underlying rationale was why we went to Iraq. The resolutions merely provided the pretext or excuse for a decision that was going to occur anyway.

I listened
to a code pink hate filled woman on Fox News one day. She said that they had to "protect" young men and women from some "choices." Funny that she never mentioned having to "protect" them from "choosing" abortion. They only needed to be protected from "choosing" the military. It's so sad that these old hippies are so burned out that they have no idea how ridiculous they look and sound. Killing brain cells will do that to you....

...not sure where I heard this, but...
(As it applies to Hal & Robert and their kind):

"If you're 20 and NOT a liberal, you don't have a heart. If you're 40, and are STILL a liberal, you haven't got a brain..."

Now, if it were just plain stupidity, I could easily ignore these twerps. When it's a lie, that makes these people not unlike vile rodents.

Florida Republican Fascists
Citizen Carrier: So the people that the GOP bussed into Florida to storm one of the offices counting votes and create such a rucus that the vote counters decided to quit - these were fascists you say?

Code Stinking Hippies
Dweebs such as those in The Pink City often make me wonder why it was that I crossed the wire every day.

Then, I recover from that thought knowing that the vast majority of Americans think these insignificant twits on the hind-ends of the world are just that...insignificant twits.

Sarge? HOOAH!!

Thank You Sir
Sgt. all I can say to you is thank you.The main problem we have now is our kids are being raised by silver spoons who NEVER served NEVER will serve but say "We support our troops".Willard the moronic mormon is a prime example of this with a mansion full of sons raised by this silver spoon lifestyle they dont know what it is to GIVE BACK to the same country that has GIVEN so much to them.As a true conservative I and many others who think not from my wallet but my common sense I see how our country has a "code pinko",it is this "silver spoon" lifestyle.Until TRUE CONSERVATIVES make our children serve all they will have is this expectation of others doing the hard work while they set on theyre gutless asses and say "I support our troops",disgusting at best.

Great article
very moving but it fails to account for the 1,000,000 dead Iraqis
I am very sure there are lots of Iraqis making money off the US pressence and are very exited about our pressence their. I assume the closer to the bases the better of they will be.
But that does mean invading a thrid world nation that was not a threat to us was the right thing to do.
IF we are the leaders of the world. We just set up a hell of a postion to follow. All Russia needs now is some bad intel and the can invade any one they want.

We are stuck in Iraq and cant do anything about it.

It figures
that Hal Doofus and RJS would make disparaging comments about Sgt. Conner.

Thank you for your service, Sgt. Conner

A great thread until...
This was a great thread, full of admiration and thanks to Sgt. Connor, and an intelligent military-focused discussion -- until the likes of Robert, Beastie Boy and Hal Donahue showed up. Then it deteriorated, as it ALWAYS does, into unmitigated dog-doo. Is there no way to get the handful of goons like Robert, Beastie Boy and Hal Donahue who continually come back and ruin things OFF THIS WEB SITE permanently???

This was a terrific article. The Code Pink brigade is bad enough, but it truly is the city fathers who deserve finger-wagging and shame. While Berkeley has always been a shining beacon for liberal thinking (if you could call it that), this latest activity is the most blatant and repressive move to limit freedom of choice that I have ever seen in this country. Those who support this measure don't DESERVE to be defended by our brave sons and daughters in the military. They deserve to be thrown to the wolves.

Miserable Creatures
"War is an ugly thing, But not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself"--John Stuart Mill (1806-1873)

We owe more than we can ever repay to the men and women who have served in uniform throughout the history of this nation. I believe that the people of Berkeley and others like them, know this to be true. They want to rid themselves of the presence of the military for they are a constant reminder of their hidden feelings of inadequacy. John Stuart Mill over 100 years ago knew well the people of Berkeley.

God bless all who have served. God bless the USA.

Tibby

Thank you
Thank you for putting your life between me and those who would destroy me.

That's inadequate, but there's nothing that would be adequate.

Advice to Liberals
You will never persuade anyone to change their point of view by attacking the heartfelt opinion of a returning marine.

If you cannot thank him for his service, at least have the good grace to remain silent.

"I HATE your freedoms, Beastie!"
Arby: "Is there no way to get the handful of goons like Robert, Beastie Boy and Hal Donahue who continually come back and ruin things OFF THIS WEB SITE permanently???"
-----------------------------
Probably not. It's too easy to re-enlist.

George Patton used to say that when everyone agrees, no one is thinking. If that's what you want, that's what you want.

Read the Article, Robert,....
...before you post! The good Sgt. does accurately mention 7-SIX 7's and not 747's as you imply in your post. If an imagined error of no real consequence is worth mentioning, then a real error regarding such is worth a mention as well. Moron.

Seeker of truth

Me thinks you got too many zeros in your calcualations. That great conservative publication Slate puts the figure lower like 100,000. ( See http://www.slate.com/id/2108887/ )

Either you made a mistake, got info from a bad sourse, or you are bent the truth.

The source was Rueters. They scaled the claim back from 1.25M to 1.0M. I am not sure if you can get a better estmate than that.

Of course not! Jarheads are taught not to think. I remember the HS classmates who became Marines -- and shudder. But he's probably not reading, anyway.

I'm just trying to talk some sense into the "I love the American Empire" crowd; we are losing America as a country and an ideal, and none of you seem to see beyond American Idol. And yes, it is probably just as futile.

Get ready to spend those Ameros.

Beastie Boy:
Having read some of your so called intelligent comments on this thread and others about the U.S, and the military, I have a suggestion for you. If you hate this country so much, and think socialist "paradises" are so much better, move your sorry butt to one of them.

WHAT WE NEED
if for all the liberals in the government to be arrested and tried for treason because of their giving aid and comfort (and more) to the Islamo-fascist-terrorist murderers. The penalty for this crime should be the maximum punishment available. Hopefully, their replacements would be honorable, conservatives who would work for the good of the country.

Beastie Boy

I served in a previous war . too old to fight in this one, and have 2 sons now serving.

You have your right to speak and I have the right to disagree with you.

Why is it everytime a liberal disagrees with someone, they ask " why aren't YOU serving?"

Supporting the troops is easy
Conservatives are not making the hard choice here.

Everyone loves a hero. Everyone loves the glory of war. Everyone can increase their own face - and a lot of that is going on in this thread - by praising the troops, etc.

Being a hero in a bad war is still being a hero.

The story of this war is that first meeting after 9/11 when Dick Cheney said "Let's get Iraq." That's it. Period.

Conservatives cannot seem to be able to make the tough decision to acknowledge that this is a bad war. And the courage to make the distinction that fighting a bad war does not make the soldiers who fight the war bad.

An accurate Body Count is needed
IF ( note the IF) there is a civil war. A large body count can attribute to the rise of peace. Simply because there are less people to kill, not less reason to kill.
I am not saying that is what is going on but it is a honest question.
Let's say I hate Liberals ( I do)
If I sucessfully kill all the liberals in my neighborhood, the number of dead liberals would down. Not because of any outside source. Simply because there are less liberals around me.

You referenced one of my top 3 quotes by Mr Mill.
It pretty much sums up the liberal mind set.

Great article!
Thanks for your service Sgt. Seth Conner! Your active service shows your concern and caring for others. You voluntarily giving of yourself, as a possible sacrifice for others is truly divine. A fact most of the miserable human-hating liberals can never grasp...the most unselfish act of love and the greatest gift of all is sacrificing yourself for others.

savage jackoff writes:
-because we are willing to fight for what we believe in, even if it means hate-filled moe-rons like yourself attack us for it. but you cheer for your side like you watching a game.

Savage Jackoff

Conservatives do make the hard choice
"Conservatives are not making the hard choice here."

Of course they are, as it is not (liberals for the most part)who even join the military. They even make the choice to fight for your right to espouse stupidity. It is understandable that you cannot understand.

JO
Obviously you can't read, I am not cheering a game. I served, so you could spew.

Did the government take away your right to post this? Obviously not..you may or may not get get banned ( I could care less if you do or don't)but it's not going to stop you from posting again under a different moniker. you are wrong and right. the hippie culture was NOT one of anarchists; they did live in communes, ergo, their economic system was communist. They believed that all the members of the commune should have an equal voice in decisions effecting the commune, ergo, they embraced a pure system of democracy. Hippies were Libertarian in that they believed that personal was private.

Limbaugh never called ALL of the soldiers were phony. He called those who never served, but said they did, phony.

Where the hell do you get off saying the Legion gave up on the troops or even the war effort. You obviously don't attend senior VA meetings.

I have found the VA works pretty well for me also!

You are patently wrong about pretty much everything! How do you live with yourself.

OBTW. All you morons that believe that Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran, etc were no threat to America live in a Pollyanna dream-world. They were/are making verbal threats and seeking ways to fulfill them. They were/are complicit with and supporting Al Quaida in fulfilling these promises. It's just a matter of time. 9/11 was a peremptory strike against our way of living.

TR
C'mon man, was it insulting and vile??

Did you have a point at least or were you just being a tool?

Be honest now, I can smell a lie like a fart in a car...

Thank you Sgt. Conner
I'm proud of your choice to serve, inspired by the 9/11 attacks. You are a much braver person than any of our current political leaders.

I'm ashamed that you weren't sent after the people who actually perpetrated those attacks, but rather to a country that had nothing to do with them. Maybe you could take a squadron over to Pakistan and find bin Laden? Or over to Afghanistan, where the Taliban are re-emerging? That would be awesome. Saddam was bad, tyrannical, but so is the Saudi royal family; yet we remain allied with them, as their money continues to fund terrorism. I'm sorry you aren't able to do anything about that.

Please take care of the Iraqi people as best you can, now that we've bombed their country into rubble and displaced their middle class. Please try to protect Iraqi women, who are now living with the Islamic Republic of Iraq (whose constitution states "no law shall be made which contradicts the teachings of Islam"), and are more persecuted now than they were under Saddam. Thank you.

I for one will be the first to admit that I do not have a degree! I wonder if that made any difference when I was working at the NSA back in the eighties, or when we briefed General Schwartzkopf in 1991 on enemy forces. They did not seem to mind. And the life experiences, priceless!

I thank You and I thank McCain
Semper Fi! Seth your sacrifice and that of our fellow Marines and others in the Armed Force makes me wonder why anybody on the right would want Hillary or Obamma to win the the Presidency to spite John McCain. The only issue I agreed with Huckabee on was a Human Life Amendment. Mitt Romney would be OK but there were issues where he was to the left of McCain. McCain was the resaon that funding for the Surge passed Congress. I voted for Goldwater and lived through the sixties. The extreme left has always hated the Military. The Hippies used to spit on the Soldiers returning from Viet Nam. I have a lot of respect for President Bush and Senator McCain for their steadfastness. yea, it is funny that many hippie types are now the people they dispised when they were young.

actually hippies were a small minority of the youth in the late 60's early 70's because most youth did not want to make the commitment to live a life without material possesions.

Comments regarding comments:
1 - State Dept. staff and career employees (along w/ most govt employees) are Dems; Dems don't believe in defending America; hence, Dems sent to Iraq - possibly questionable performance.

2 - Iranian interviewed by BBC when we attacked Baghdad - "I wish the US Marines had come to Tehran."

3 - Stalin's comment: "Useful idiots are a Communist's best friend" so true, Code Pink and others.

4 - Pres. Jefferson sent Marines to Tripoli to stop the Arab Muslims from raiding American ships, demanding bribes for release or selling Americans into slavery in Istanbul. Estimates of westerners sold as slaves in Istanbul in the Muslim slave market: 1,500,000. Any of you volunteering to go back to that environment? What keeps us safe is our military, our VOLUNTEER military.

Thanks guys and gals, thanks a ton.

HalD: "Do you support Rush's comment calling them "phony soldiers" too?"

Once again you prove the point made by this Marine Sgt. You show how deranged people have become when they resort to twisting the facts to fit their agenda. There have been many "phony soldiers" that are currently serving prison sentences because they were "phony soldiers". This is exactly the point being made by Seth, the misuse of "FREEDOM" by incompetents like yourself. Try using facts in context like Seth instead of twisting with the socialist wind.

I feel the term applies to anyone who distorts the facts because it is aimed at undermining the US Government no matter who is the President.

Your comment that Iraq did not attack us is proven false by the quote from the Resolution and by history. I guess you conveniently forgot about Iraq firing on US and British war planes patrolling the UN sanctioned "No-Fly Zones." Nor do you care that a foreign power aimed to assassinate one of our presidents. It must be ok since you hate those on the right.

So the term, Comrade, fits quite well to you and anyone else who undermines the influence of the United States.

Oh look everbody
The Doofus is back. Yeah, we saw the support on a Legion website that they were giving you. Something like, we don't want to talk about what you have to say. I'm sure the Gunny archived it. I read it myself. If the members of my post treated me the same way, I don't think I would g
