For the past several months I have been discussing with you the upcoming election, the issues affecting it and the candidates running for office. Well, we are nearing the end of the election season and appropriately Halloween is later this week. I say this because we are fighting off the very real possibility of a 60 seat, filibuster-proof majority. I am not conceding defeat, nor are any of my colleagues, but I am being realistic. Therefore, I feel it is imperative to remind people of what is at stake this election – quite simply it is the future of this country.

The Democrat party has been trending left for years and is now dominated by out-of-touch liberals determined to undermine traditional American values. Republicans in the Senate are all that stand in the way of Democrat pet projects which include activist judges, higher taxes, elimination of the secret ballot and restricting your First Amendment rights. These are just some of the “values” a 60-seat Democrat Majority will mean. And don’t forget any legislation passed by such a majority will require a similar Republican majority to overturn – meaning a 20 seat swing to give Republicans a filibuster-proof majority.

Few rights are more sacred than an American’s right to a private ballot in elections – perhaps that is why 87% of Americans support them. This allows the process to be fair and free from taint, unless ACORN is involved. Yet, the number one piece of legislation from a filibuster-proof Democrat majority will be the elimination of the secret ballot in union elections. As a payback to union bosses, who are seeing membership numbers and dues decline, Democrats will make it easier to force employees into an unwanted, and possibly unnecessary, union. This will drive American companies away to more business friendly nations, hardly a wise move during tough economic times. But this move is not just a payback to Big Labor; it also greatly benefits the Democrat Party, since greater union membership means more dues to be used for political activities on behalf of the Democrats.

Not since the Alien and Sedition Acts of the 18th century, has free speech in America been in such peril. Democrats have indicated their desire to restrict the First Amendment rights of all Americans by censoring broadcast media. Although the Democrats are not calling it censorship, they are masking their actions under the guise of the Fairness Doctrine. Why do Democrats want to restrict free speech? Simple, they are losing the battle of ideas and this result manifests itself in the popularity of right-of-center talk radio. Prior to the abolition of the Fairness Doctrine radio shows such as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity could not have existed – alternatively, Radio America could not have existed either. But as Limbaugh and Hannity (among others) succeeded in the marketplace of ideas, Radio America and other liberal talk radio endeavors failed miserably. So since liberals cannot win the battle, they want to change the rules.

“Spreading the wealth” is the current statement du-jour. But nothing can more accurately portray what is in store for America if the Democrats control government. After driving away jobs with Card Check and stifling debate through the Fairness Doctrine, Democrats are coming for your money. In fact, they may not wait that long to take your earnings for the common good. Is there anything more un-American than punishing the success of those who create jobs? If Democrats control the government say goodbye to low personal income tax rates, job-creating low capital gains taxes and incentives to earn more. Say hello to government handouts, activist judges and forced unionization.

It is not hyperbole to say the fate of this nation hangs in the balance of this election. Democrats have laid out a plan that will destroy this country economically at both personal and corporate levels. And don’t be fooled by Democrats who claim they will stand up for the wishes of their constituents. Sending Democrats like Jeanne Shaheen, Al Franken, Jeff Merkley, Kay Hagan, Ronnie Musgrove and Jim Martin only empowers Harry Reid and Chuck Schumer, and not the constituents of those states. A vote for any of those candidates, or any Democrat candidate for that matter, is a vote against lower taxes, smaller government, free speech and self-determination.

The effects of this election will be felt for generations. That is why when you vote on November 4th, the choice is clear, the choice is Republican.
