Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As the price of gas continues to strain all Americans, Democrats in Congress chose to go on vacation – something many Americans cannot do this year. Instead of staying in town to work out a solution, or at least debate and vote on multiple proposals, Democrats departed Washington faster then the price of gas has risen. Amazingly, while they are in the majority and setting the agenda, Democrats are obstructing any solutions on energy from consideration.

Before leaving town Democrats provided valuable insights as to why they are unwilling to act in any capacity on behalf of all Americans to address the current energy crisis. Case in point is Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi:

“But Pelosi, who has opposed offshore drilling throughout her two decades in Congress, insists opening new areas to drilling won't lower gas prices in the short term. She believes a vote would only help the GOP blame Democrats for high gas prices.” (San Francisco Chronicle, 8/1/08)

So the Speaker of the House believes that voting on any proposals to address the current energy crisis will only benefit Republicans and is therefore a nonstarter; meaning that once again, Democrats are putting politics before national interests – to say nothing of family interests. Yet, addressing the energy crisis in a comprehensive manner is desired by a majority of Americans - highlighted by the news of Pelosi’s home state of California now favoring off-shore drilling for the first time in more than three decades.

Not to be left off the Democrats’ “Leave Americans Behind” Agenda, Sen. Mary Landrieu is stuck explaining why she voted against increasing domestic oil production as a political favor to Sen. Ken Salazar. The same Senator who objected to increased oil exploration and production, even if the price of gas hit $10 a gallon. The same Senator who voted several times against Louisiana interests, but for some reason deserves special favors from Landrieu. Especially as Landrieu is making her seniority an issue in her reelection bid, but is accommodating junior members who oppose her alleged views on increasing domestic oil production.

Mary Landrieu isn’t the only politician scrambling for cover.

Last week Boulder Liberal Mark Udall pledged during a debate that he would vote against adjournment of Congress until a vote was held on energy. Well the vote came and went and Udall broke his promise, in fact he didn’t vote at all. He was at a fundraiser in Colorado and too busy to fulfill the duties of his taxpayer funded job. The adjournment motion passed by one vote and Democrats got their hard-earned vacation. But when backlash threatened to further imperil Udall’s electoral chances, his liberal leadership came to his rescue and made sure Udall got a chance to voice his “opposition” to adjournment.

But Democrats are not only obstructing solutions, they are pandering on the campaign trail. For example, the “Queen of Pandering,” Jeanne Shaheen, is now in favor of domestic drilling. In a July 31st fundraising email, Shaheen brazenly claimed:

“The fact is Jeanne Shaheen supports more domestic drilling.” (Shaheen fundraising email, 7/31/08)

Yet, only weeks before Shaheen stated the exact opposite in a press release:

"More drilling is the answer the oil companies are looking for, not the answer New Hampshire families are looking for." (Shaheen press release, 5/13/08)

Further codifying her position is a section from a Concord Monitor article on gas prices:

“Shaheen, a Democrat, opposes drilling in the Alaskan refuge and the gas tax holiday, saying that both proposals would do little and carry heavy negative consequences.” (Concord Monitor, 5/23/08)

These drilling positions are similar to those she claimed during her failed 2002 campaign. Now in a rematch with Sen. Sununu, Shaheen, shackled by her party’s utter failure to address gas prices, has changed her tune and is hoping no one notices.

The solution to our energy problem is not simply drilling for more oil. There needs to be a comprehensive proposal that explores all solutions and taps Americans’ amazing ingenuity. But Democrats oppose any attempts to debate common sense solutions. From leadership down to candidates, Democrats are doing a lot of talking, but little of anything else.

Democrats in power are doing everything in their power to thwart an open debate on solving our energy crisis, while Democrat candidates are attempting to convince voters they will have the intestinal fortitude to stand up to their liberal leadership. While all this is happening, Americans’ wallets are squeezed as prices on just about everything rise.

This Fall when you go to the polls, the choice is clear; the choice is Republican.

blood transfusion
I blogged on this yesterday - the Dem's emphasis on anything BUT oil leaves us with no viable options for the forseeable future. I liken it to going into surgery, with the doctor saying, "Well, the blood supply is a little tight; so we're going to do a transfusion using vinegar instead." You would cancel the surgery and have the doctor committed.

No option should be off the table. But until we can produce an all-electric car that goes faster than a golf cart, can drive 100 miles on a charge, and doesn't cost $50k, we're stuck. Oh, and even then, we still have to generate the power to recharge the darn things.

But let's not let those inconvenient truths get in the way of "saving the planet."

The only error in this article
is the admonition to vote Republican! Why would anyone want to vote for those guys? For 35 years, they did nothing to plan ahead or anticipate further blackmail by OPEC. Not one of these politicians even thought about what would happen.

Now of course, they are all riding their self-righteousness to the polls, hoping to get re-elected once again. The answer is to vote Independent/Third Party. Another elite from either party in the Presidency will only continue the partisanship that is destroying our beloved nation!

If you care to learn how the elites have pulled off the greatest scam ever, please visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. It is the one place you will see how the myth that we have no other choice, nowhere else to go, is exactly that, a myth. The entire election process has been engineered to keep power in the hands of the elites.

Check out the site, why not? The elites have robbed us of our inheritance! When are we going to act to reclaim it? Thanks, Joe

Democrat Energy Policies. I Object.
LOL. They don't have any. It's like telling the cat to bark.
Their "energy poliicy," is: taking off for 5 weeks Aug-Sept; come back into session in Sept for a while, and then (according to the House Calendar) take off the entire months of Oct. Nov. and Dec.
I count less than 8 months work for 12 months pay.
Now, I'd say they've save a lot of energy. It takes energy to get up, shower, dress, and got to work..Some people do it everyday.
Gee, it'd be a sweet deal for anyone to have a boss who says, okay..shut off the lights, turn off the machines, send the maintenance men away, and let' GO OFF FOR 5 WEEKS!!! And get paid for it, too.
Yes. I am in the independent/undecided group whose approval rating of this "Congress?" is 3-6%. If anyone votes Democrat again, they are asking for it. I'm not.
"Burn me once, shame on you; burn me twice shame on me." Once burned by these do-nothing
Democrats was enough.
In the less than 8 months of sessions - if they go by their calendar: They have passed 290 bills, 30% of which (I've read) were for just naming Post Offices. Oh, they had one to name a "Watermelon Month," too. GREAT JOB GUYS.
You saved a lot of electric bills by not being at your jobs for so long. That's an "energy policy?" Guess it is, for some.

"The only error in this article

Actually, you are wrong. During the President's first term, the House passed a bill to drill in ANWR. HOWEVER, the Senate did not pass it because you need 60 votes to pass it and the vote was right along party lines. BTW Joe, the President has also funded research into alternatives.

THE DEMS WILL ALWAYS BE THE PROBLEM.

If we vote for a third party, the dems will win, but I believe that is probably what you want.

Have a good day, Joe!

Joe Oliva
I understand your sentiment. Who is really capable of representing us.?My opinion is that we use each party to bash the other as needed. Right now the Democrats are in control and a decided voter shift to the GOP side will certainly make them rethink crossing the voter. But it is much deeper than that in that we need to make congress more responsive by keeping them on the edge. It might take some time but congress needs a good dose of do it our way or lose your jobs and party doesn't matter.

Shaheen and the Democrat Axiom
Jeanne Shaheen is the epitome of what you can expect from anyone running for elected office as a Democrat. A Democrat will always run on a populist/socialist agenda with energy, enthusiasm and commitment when they believe their message of government for everyone will sell.

Should they face any opposition of any significance whatsoever, they will fall back on Conservative values. If this doesn't reveal the depth of deceit that is the Democratic Party, no example can.

You can trust a Democrat to run on any agenda or platform necessary to get elected. You can also trust them to betray that position the instant they take their hand from the Bible. Think of it as the Democrat Axiom.

Energy policy and Dems in a sentence?
The fact is that when Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi took over, they promised the American people that they had an energy plan. Clearly they did not. They're running from this debate because they have no real answers. Joe has a point, the Republicans did nothing to safeguard against this and they should have. Our founding fathers warned us not to rely on other nations but to be self sustaining. We've failed them on that. I also understand that Joe has a campaign to run and so that is why he would come here and represent 3rd party candidates and put his name out there. I've got a grassroots movement in my own state of Delaware asking folks to write me in for Governor. That being said, I also understand that we are talking about President of the United States. We're talking about an extreme liberal and a moderate Republican. We're talking about drilling, Nuclear expansion, and clean coal versus tire pressure and unnecessary tuneups. (By the way, has anyone asked if Obama is in the tank for mechanics like McCain is for the oil companies?) This is Just words versus Straight talk. We can't afford to miss this pitch. We've got to drive this one home folks.

TIRES been inflated for 10 years !
GAWD:

90 % of us, truckers, bus companies, cab drivers, and auto owners have had their tires inflated for over 10 years and our engines tuned forever:

OBAMA sounds like a 5 year old:

GOOGLE / Yahoo windfall PROFITS
Have to assume:

Obama is going to steal the windfall profits from every major corporation to pass out to the parasites and to buy more votes:

WE WILL PAY for every dime he steals from the shareholders of the Oil companies:
THEY WILL SIMPLY charge more to pay for obama's raid:

Jail wheat speculators TOO
Obama wants to jail the oil speculators

WHY NOT THE WHEAT speculators TOO: THEY had record increases this week:

Obama cannot really be that stupid:

Oh yes the Democrats do have...
an energy plan. It is called the "No more energy from oil" plan and involves their pipe dreams that not only will America be independent for foreign oil but free from oil, period!

Just because the greenies are pushing AGW, Climate Change or whatever they are calling it today doesn't mean it is a real threat. It means that it is the means they are using to sucker an uninformed, publicly educated, government will save us population into selling their individual liberty for the privilege of an all powerful central government to save them from absolutely everything including stupidity.

Too bad that by the time they wake up it will be too late. That is, if there are not enough American "can do" people to stop them.

BHO says he will make us energy independent in ten years at the same time he says drilling for oil is stupid because we won't see any of for 10 years?????

Americans have always met adversity and problems with ingenuity and attitude of "we can" like WWII, putting a man on the moon, building the Panama Canal, not to mention defeating the British and establishing this great nation.

one thing you can bet on ModMark...
it that T Boone will not be getting his grubby paws on anything at my farm. I would rather deal with more trustworthy types!

But thanks for the good thoughts!

Dems had a plan
It was the Renewable Energy Act of earlier this year which would have shifted the oil subsidies and tax incentives to renewables.

Now, considering the type of profits oil companies make and the overall free market rhetoric of the right, answer me this. Why should highly profitable companies be receiving taxpayer funded subsidies and incentives?

The author has it right.
On issue after issue, Democrats put the interests of their Party before the interests of the nation.

And the GOP?
The GOP knows full well that opening the restricted areas for drilling will no immediate positive effect, nor any significant longterm effect. Our contribution to the worldwide market is, and always will be minor compared to OPEC, Canada, Venezuela, or the former Soviet block invidually, and miniscule compared to the four combined. A minor reduction in output from any or all of these players would wipe out any increased US supply.

Heck, the million bpd lost in the recent PKK pipeline is equal to 2/3 of current US exports. And that's just one pipeline.

Failed to mention
Had it not been for Reagan pulling the plug on Carter's domestic plan to become energy independent, Ken Salazar might not have to ask that the moratorium on commercial oil shale be extended a year.

Several energy companies have leases where they are working on technology that will make oil shale a viable commercial product, but it's not there yet, mainly because the technology was mothballed in 1982.

In the meantime, the Green River formation is producing lots of traditional crude and even more natural gas.

Methinks ....
the lady doeth protest too much. The Dems are not really being honest because their objections don't match their adamant refusal. Ask yourself when you listen to them if their bogus objection leads to the conclusion that the drilling should be prohibited. I don't think so.

Failure to understand
There is nothing partisan or mystifying here.

It is simple Econ 101.

Oil is on an inelastic demand curve. More profits may be had when reduced supply increases prices. Witness the aftermath of hurricane Katrina.

This is why Big Oil funds the Global Warming Hysteria, and "lubricates" Congress to prohibit exploration.

What Harvard MBA would invest capital monies in developing oil supplies knowing full well that increased supply will REDUCE the profitability of his company? He wouldn't get his bonus!

No, we do not need "permission" to drill, we need Congress to REQUIRE drilling! Short of that, there will be no new energy resources developed.

It simply doesn't pay.

Term Limits for Congress
That's the only real solution!
Lifetime career politicians inevitably get cynical and corrupted, having as their main focus their own "careers".

I object to obstructions by Congress

Personally, I think that NAZI Pelosi and hard luck Harry need to be tried for corruption, treason, insainity and whatever else some smart constitutional lawyer can come up with.

Then, we should shoot the caribou and serve them up to all the people who are hungry because they have to put gas in their cars instead of food on their plates.
Gasp, PETA and ALF will have my head for that one..aw, who cares.. I'll volunteer for the hunt!
My message...DRILL NOW

Drilling now and making solar cheap enough for the average American makes sense. There's a lot to be said about the fellow who is harnessing the oceans tides to move pistons generating electricity too. Shale to oil, there are a huge number of ways that are being held back and we can't allow the "save the planet" freakjobs to undermine the American Way.
Americans are an ingenious lot and if we can get incentive and necessity together we'll be rid of middle east oil.

Put the pressure on....
REPUBLICANS, WAKE UP!!!!! Put out the contract. vote for us, we drill Jan. 20th. Vote for the dems, pay $6/gal gas. Then the most important part... follow up and DO IT! 'nuff said.

Freakjobs
>Shale to oil, there are a huge number of ways that are being held back and we can't allow the "save the planet" freakjobs to undermine the American Way.<

The freakjobs are the ones who want to strip mine 500 square miles of the Rocky Mountains without consideration of the environmental degradation involved.
The American way is to balance a need with common sense solutions that take into consideration a healthy environment for future generations.

I'll believe drill now conservatives are serious about energy issues when they mix in a little Conserve!Conserve!Conserve! along with their Drill!Drill!Drill! demands.

Until then I'll just dismiss them as partisan hacks in the same vein as Nancy Pelosi.

Its Time for a Revolution!!!!
Its Time the American people pull there heads out of there (you no what) and start a Revolution to take this Country back from those who have done the most damage to it.Be honest with your selfs,Neither party has done anything for a long time to make our lives or our Country better.I could care less about Money or Greed or Power and thats exactly how we have been lured into thinking that is how we will be better but look at what has happened because of that thinking,we have aloud our Government to sell off our land for greed, aloud big business to control our lives thru greed, have surplused jobs to foreign countries for greed I.E China,India,Mexico and the list grows,Have allowed just about anybody to cross our borders (I.E Immagration)and have done nothing about it.We pay higher prices for almost everything from food to gas,Housing ECT...and who benefits the most from that,A clue( not the American people)The oil Companies have recorded record profits but we are paying higher and higher prices for it.We have been talking about other forms of Energy for years and still nothing,Why because the Government is in bed with those Record profits. We need a French Revolution of the Economic type to get control of this Country and its future Polices from those who have done nothing but benefit from the Past direction that we are on.I don't give a Damn about any Foreign Government or there People,Its not the Responsibility of the American Tax payer to give your hard earned pay to our Government for them to take it and give it to some other Country and there people when we have so many glaring problems here that needed to be fixed,Our Government and Politicians are in bed with Greed and Power and those who create it but that has not translated to making this Country or its people better.Vacations are to be earned and our Politicians ( both Parties) have done nothing to earn that time off.

Dhimmi-rat "energy policy"
First off, lib-tards, the Repub held a majority in Congress only 12 years out of the last 40. During that time they introduced 20+ energy initiatives, only to have the Dhimmis defeat those bills. EVERY TIME!
Repealing the ban won't effect prices at the pump for 5-10 years? Look at what happened when Bush repealed the Presidential ban! $20 drop in crude, IN ONE DAY! Imagine the drop if the Dhimmis FINALLY dropped the Congressional ban!
Environmental disaster if drilling begins again? Look at Norway, 80% of their oil comes from the North Sea, via pipelines, 0 spills in 20 years! Face it lib-tards, technology has advanced since all the environmental laws were enacted in the 70s. We CAN harvest our own resources safely and be energy independant. We have between 200 & 300 years of domestic consumption, within our borders. We'll probably have non-petroleum alternatives within 20. Drill now, drill safely and invest in alternative fuels that don't need subsidies to survive!
BTW, those humungous oil company profits? For every dollar you pay, for a gallon of gas, oil companies get $.04 and the government gets $.15 in oil taxes! Whose "gouging" the consumers??? (Plus the average profit margin, for an American business, is 8.9%.)

Obama energy policy
For a good laugh go look at Obama's speech on energy. He spends half the time complaining about McCain's stance and the rest he promises miracles with renewables. Europe is the example American's should follow.

He says we can't drill because oil won't be available for ten years. We can't have nuclear until there is some place to put the waste. We shouldn't give the oil industry incentives because they make money.

With the Obama plan we will have alternative sources of energy when? What sources of energy does he believe we can have in what period of time? What if he put the same resources into getting oil? How about offering incentives to getting oil in a shorter period of time?

Obama says, to the voters of Nevada, be very afraid of John McCain because he supports storing nuclear waste at Yuka mountain. France and Japan get what percentage of their power from nuclear, Mr. Obama?

The man from Illinois is still pushing bio-fuels. Libs will not ask if the big agriculture supports BO.

Wonder how much money Mr. O. will invest into the technology of having algae produce oil?

Alternative sources
Alternative sources of energy will offer relief far faster than exploring, drilling, and building refineries. And it will provide sources that are not going to run out on us. We have ripped through the world supply of oil in a short 50 years. With world population growth at its present rate will bring the population from 6 billion to 11 billion by 2050. There's not enough oil in every crack and crevice of this planet to serve that many people.

PLug in cars are expected to be on the market in 2010. Plug them in during the down time for the grid at night. Wind farms are sprouting up like freckles. BLM who manages the sunny south west public lands has so many applications for solar farms they can't handle them all. It doesn't take 10 years to put in some solar panels. With luck we need the oil will have greatly diminished by the time they get to it. Off shore and drilling in the Arctic is tough territory. Its not easy in those areas to put in a pipe and start sucking out oil.

All this hand wringing about drilling is pretty much an empty issue.

wait a minute chicaree
... why is there such resistance from the left to exploring for oil? I think you must be operating from another agenda. Be honest and just admit that you liberals envision a world free from the evils of carbon fuels. Just imagine a world with no more NASCAR racing and no more rednecks riding around in hopped up Chevy Silverados with gun racks. Oh, the utopia of it all!

Why can't we all just ride bikes and shovel horseshit for a living?

Obama supporters? Time to assume
the position!

On your knees Obamies of all races and religions.

It is time for your daily call to worhsip your lord and master - SWAMIE-OBAMIE!

So get the H*** off TH, bow before your autographed photo of Obamie, and recite your sacred incantations:

Yes we can!(stolen from Hugo Chavez)
Yes we can!(stolen from Hugo Chavez)
Yes we can!(stolen from Hugo Chavez)

Now click your heels three times and say:

Obamie's the ONE (because OPRAH said so)
Obamie's the ONE (because OPRAH said so)
Obamie's the ONE (because OPRAH said so)

and then your favorite mantra of all:

Anyone against Obama is a racist...
Anyone against Obama is a racist...
Anyone against Obama is a racist...

There! Feel better?

Your Swamie-Obamie hears you because he is all hearing .... I mean have you seen the ears on this guy?

Geez! Is that a racist comment?

It probably is to the ZOMBIE-OBAMIES!

Even Mickey Mouse says drill for oil
Even Mickey Mouse supported drilling offshore drilling...
