Does Barack Obama Play the Fiddle?

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

There is a pattern to President Barack Obama’s public policies. Generally they are the opposite of what makes sense, but delivered in an oh-so-smooth manner, we almost believe him—and 58 percent of the population still seems to. To many of us, it has been clear for some time that much of what he says defies logic and is the opposite of what is actually true. But for the latecomers, Tuesday’s statements on Iran presented yet more proof.

While he once was “concerned,” seven days of bloodshed and brutality in Iran have led him finally to being “appalled and outraged.” But still it is collective. The “United States and the international community” have been “appalled and outraged,” he said. We can’t even have our own personal outrage without including the Europeans and the Africans and the Arab nations he so loves to appeal to. No, we must seek consensus on all things—including outrage. Once we saw that they were outraged, then we were outraged, too, darn it.

“If the Iranian government seeks the respect of the international community, it must respect those rights,” President Obama said. Is he serious? The Iranian government—seeking the respect of the international community? By ignoring years of U.N. sanctions in order to develop nuclear weapons? By killing U.S. Marines and holding our citizens captive 444 days? By repeatedly calling the holocaust a sham … shouting “death to Israel” and declaring America the “Great Satan?” By sending IEDs to Iraq to blow up American and coalition troops? The only respect Iran seems to be seeking is that of Syria and its other evil axis buddy, North Korea. Honor among thieves, but not respect.

Yet he extends the olive branch—or at least hot dogs and baked beans. Up until yesterday, our response to the bloody regime was to offer ketchup and mustard and share a picnic with fireworks in celebration of the nation we love; the one Obama is ashamed of and the Iranian regime hates.

Earlier this week, Major Garrett of Fox News asked the president at the press conference: “Are diplomats still welcome at the embassies on the Fourth of July, sir?”

“That’s a choice the Iranians are going to have to make,” President Obama said, twice obfuscating in his answer to Major Garrett’s question.

Earlier his State Department spokesman, Ian Kelly, had been quite clear. A reporter asked: “Is there any thought being given to rescinding the invitation...” and then was interrupted by Kelly, “No thought to rescinding the invitation to Iranian Diplomats.”

“Is it appropriate to have a social dialogue if they come?” the reporter pressed.

“Well, (loud sniff) we have made a strategic decision to engage on a number of fronts with Iran and we tried many years of isolation and we’re pursuing a different path now (loud sniff).”

Yes, the path to appeasement, lined with apologies and hot dogs while they do what they please to their own people, threaten the sovereign nation of Israel, mock and deride us—and still get invited to the party? Clearly, media attention forced the administration and the State Department to change course from this horribly misguided effort to engage in 4th of July diplomacy while Iranians yearning for freedom die in the street. White House spokesman Robert Gibbs announced yesterday that “those invitations will no longer be extended.”

Nevertheless, the administration seems to have only reluctantly deviated from this path to appeasement, which also included the declaration by our president just a few weeks ago that Iran has a “right” to nuclear development. He’s sure they can be trusted with nuclear materials to develop only power generating facilities … just as President Bill Clinton assured us North Korea would do.

While Iran spins out of control, North Korea threatens to “wipe out” the U.S. and the Taliban teeter ever closer to Pakistani nukes, the State Department official sniffs a “different path” and our president continues to preside over ridiculous policies, deviating only reluctantly and following international opinion.

I’m just wondering: Is Barack Obama fiddling while Rome burns? I think I smell smoke.

To clarify
I think what Rios misses is that Obama and she have different goals. Obama's goal is to avoid helping the mullahs by making this about Iran vs the US when it should be about the Iranian people vs the leaders oppressing them.

One can see this in the way that Obama avoids interfering in their election results, and instead condemns government actions based on international norms.

Rios' interest seems to be in the US expressing its superiority to the Iranians. She is proud of our policy of showing the Iranians what we think of them during the Bush years. That things got worse in Iran during that time does not seem to have even entered into her considerations.

There is a very narcisisstic quality to conservatives. We are watching an impressive uprising by the Iranians that will hopefully lead to positive changes, if not now then in the coming year. And Rios wants the US to act like a 4 year old upset that peoples attention is not on him. Isn't this a great opportunity for the US to tell the world how great the US is. Who cares what the effect of that is on the Iranians themselves this is about US.

What to Do?
The Iran situation is a real problem. However, what is missing from Ms. Rios' editorial is any serious consideration about how we should handle Iran.

We have seen president Bush's approach of threats and demonization. Did he make any progress is halting Iran's nuclear program or improving their behavior after 8 years of effort? None whatsoever. Are you advocating a return to tough talk and no action? What exactly are you proposing? Only another snide and sarcastic editorial with no real content.

lon
it's hard to believe that PA was once one of the active members of the Revolution. Ohhhh! You were on the Tories' side!!!

Sorry-- evasive answers do not cut it. Obama is coming across as the weak sister in today's political happenings.

I can see the history books of the future--"Obama, the man who could not say either "yes" or "no"".

No, He's not fiddling
He's throwing gasoline. What in the world is it going to take to make the media call a spade a spade. This guy is pure radical with a cool, "Hey I'm an American too" delivery.

He's trying to fool you. Make the conservatives sound like scare-mongerers. But his actions are starting to unravel and thankfully in record fashion. Go to a Tea Party and organize. Don't just mouthoff and make neat signs. There are Democrats who fooled you into believing they were conservative and now have made a deal to give us energy taxes that will raise EVERYTHING.

In addition they're about to screw up all medical just like Medicare and VA besides, did I mention, bankrupting the country and future generations. These people have to go. And we have to look at each state and city. It is rampant and will only get worse. Rise up now or you won't get another chance.

Vote out dims and rinos. And let them know we have the votes on the Fourth of July.

Re: Robert - What to Do?
Robert,

For eight years, US policy was to treat Iran as a fringe, illegitimate, rogue nation.

You say that didn't work - fine.

So now for six months we've tried an approach 180-degrees different.

And not a darn thing has changed about Iran. In fact, you could argue that they are more dangerous now than ever.

This would teach the rational person that Iran is going to be Iran no matter what we do. So why would you choose the behavior that only weakens the US? Of course, you don't seem all that rational, so I'm sure it's lost on you.

Lon, that is true, Sandy wants the USA
to survive and prosper and the One wants the destruction of the USA and capitalism. You are obviously on the side of the enemy!

rich not wealthy
the problem for the country is that the left continues their class warfare pitting the earners against those who enable and reward the parasites.

The left has morphed into pure socialism where gov't is the answer to everything and living under big brother cures all of societies ills.

But the dims fail to understand that socialism totally fails when the earners are all reduced to the same level of poverty enjoyed by the parasites.

And despite the warnings bening voiced by economists and lessons of history, flap ears and the dims fully believe you can spend and borrow the country to prosperity.

And when there is no money left to borrow, just enact huge tax increases to tap into the remaining dollars in the economy.

Under the dims there will never be enough taxes or spending to fully satisfy their desire to make the entire country a socialist nirvana, that is until finally the country fails from the burden of paying for total gov't

Obama a Muslim?
AIUI,a child born to a Muslim father IS a Muslim automatically.Obama's father is Muslim.
In Indonesia,Obama went to Muslim prayer services with his Muslim stepfather, studied the Koran, and was registered at two Indonesian schools as a Muslim. In one of Obama's own books,he says he CONVERTED to Christianity in his 20's,at Rev. Wrights church. The Koran says one who renounces Islam is an APOSTATE,and says they must renounce their conversion or be killed by one of the Faithful. The entire Muslim world considers Obama to be a Muslim.
Yet,there have been no fatwas calling for Obama to be killed.
The Koran says that it is permissable to lie to infidels. If Obama actually still is a Muslim,it would explain his statements about "standing with the Muslims","57 states",and his actions weakening the US economically, militarily,,supporting Hamas, and allowing Iran to achieve nuclear weapons.

Regardless...
Whether or not you like America, like American institutions, like free market capitalism, believe we actually have a free market capitalist society, believe America is morally superior, or almost anything else, one thing other countries dabbling with socialism could count on was that since WWII, Americans have been able to create wealth and material goods that make life better for everybody. If you don't like your country's healthcare system and you can afford it, you get your healthcare in America. If you want to get the latest technology, you buy, steal, or improve on American Technology. If you want to carry on a financial transaction in disparate parts of the world, you use good ol' Yankee greenbacks. Well that is all going to change if we continue down the path democrats are advocating. And where will we go when we want to go to Mars or simply get the latest healthcare. If we kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, the one thing you can count on is that there will be precious little innovation or improvement and probably more backsliding. Without competition, there is no reason for anybody to invest in anything new. Government is the greatest example of living in the past and it doesn't matter who is in office. It is a result of the fact that government doesn't face competition for the delivery of services and in fact, has the perverse incentive to do things as innefficiently as possible in order to grow their budgets and to reward their friends rather than those who are deserving on the basis of merit.

Rome or "Fahrenheit 451"
The best analogy for the "0" is to liken him to a Fire Chief in "Fahrenheit 451". He is not fiddling while Rome burns he is setting fire to the structures to burn America to the ground.

Rich not wealthy
Feeling morally superior and being morally superior are different things. The neo-cons talked about how moral we were and then advocated pre-emptive invasions and torturing prisoners to get information they wrongly assumed to be true. None of that helped the US to survive and prosper.

Of course we will survive whatever happens in Iran. But we will be paying for the Bush Administrations mistakes in confusing toughness with wisdom.

The division that one sees regarding Obama's approach is pretty stark, people who don't know anything about Iran think he is acting poorly. People with understanding of the country are applauding his approach.

Ignorance can be a good way to make oneself feel good, but it is not a good way to survive and prosper.

Mistermilo
Evasive answers to what? Why do you think that the demonstrations in Iran represent a question for Obama to answer? That seems just confused.

We can help the mullahs as we helped Ahmadinejad get elected in 2003, or we can stay out of the way while affirming our principles. The latter seems to be the better approach. I am glad it is the one our president is following.

Obama knows what he's doing
I heard today that the small print in Obama's health care plan call for union workers and government worker to be exempt from having their employee sponsored health care taxed. It makes perfect sense for a liberal Democrat to exclude his voting base from taxes while taxing the private sector. Plus, of course, the uninsured that he wants insured at everyone else's expense would mean even more Democrat votes. This man know exactly what he's doing.

Kudos Sandy Rios, Kudos!
I post from Wonderland where down is up and up is down. It is where Barry Dunham has placed this nation,Wonderland! Your article validates my Wonderland post.

The total Idiots in our Congress outnumber those with any sense of rationality or dignity.
Cap n' Tax, Govt. Cars, Govt. Healthcare, every program designed to destroy the Greatest Country in the World! UGH!

Remember Neda! Barry has forgotten her already!

Lon PA. ,Robert CA.
Hey guys, please oh please...,loosen the ties on your Barry Bonnets. They're WAY TOO TIGHT!

This is the deal. You're losing your audience. Your ignorance of what is happening is posted for ALL to see.Your posts are asinine and defy the reality of what is happening.

Two books guys. Marcus Lautrell"Lone Surviver", Bridget Gabrielle "Because They Hate".Read them.Trust me, you need to. It's a start.

Oh, and by the by...,the next time you see a soldier, THANK HIM! You'll probably never understand why the THANKS, but believe me, you need to.

Khamenei responds to Obama
The "supreme leader" has responded to Obama's outrage by escalating the crackdown on Iranians protesting the theocratic dictatorship in Iran. Both Khamenei and Ahmadinejad have verbally excoriated the President of the United States for his conciliatory deference to the "sovereignty" of Iran. To this reply, Barack Obama was heard to exclaim, "Hot Dog!"

The Fiddler
Like Nero,Obama is fiddling while we burn. He is dancing with joy that it is all crumbling better and faster than he ever dreamed possible.

He and his Den Of Thieves in Washington and his socialist backers are playing with fire, though. He needs to rethink what they are doing.

All may not be pleasant when their victims see just how much damage that has been done to them. What has been lost.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong...
"Yet he extends the olive branch—or at least hot dogs and baked beans."

Now, correct me if I'm wrong (I've been a vegetarian for almost 3 decades), but aren't hot dogs a mishmash of many kinds of meat--including pork? So it seems that extending the "hot dogs and baked beans" to the mullahs would be an appropriate response to them.

i

Concerning Obama's ratings
They are in high 50's now but not for long in my opine...He's going down and the Rasmussen poll is a better and truer reflection!!!

sqrt(cos(180)) #18
Flap ears will serve Hebrew National Kosher hot dogs (the most expensive ones) to the Muslim terrorists. He wouldn't risk offending his brothers in Allah with cheaper ones.

Maybe
he is fiddling, maybe he's playing a flute that the rats of this country don't seem to be able to resist. Either way it's not good.

Iran and IED's
This is a minor quibble, but many reporters and commentators do not understand that IED stands for "Improvised Explosive Device." An IED is usually made by rigging together several fragmentation type artillery projectiles. Iran is almost certainly supplying our enemies in Iraq with smaller, more lethal land mines specifically designed to destroy armored vehicles with either shaped charge or explosively formed projectile (EFP)warheads.

No, Obama does not play the fiddle
Neither does he speak a second language, correctly identify the language of Austria, or correctly name the number of US states.

The only thing he does well is spend money. He is a handsome, charming idiot. The most unfortunate part of this is his self-assessment as a wise, young ruler.

He believes so strongly that his wisdom transcends the ages that he feels no pain in lying to those he governs, mischaracterizing his actions, and leading our once-great country down the toilet.

He is the epitome of the Robin Hood philosophy. He will reappropriate the fruits of your hard work to some welfare queen who has no desire or intention of working.

Welcome to Zimbabwe West.

Robert
We could bomb them back to the stone age--wait, aren't most of them still living in tents and bonking their women in the head? Hmmm. They have nuclear plants that even tiny Israel took out once. But great big America is full of Lons now. Apparently lack of prayer seven days a week does make one weak. Oh, dang not that religion junk again! Thought we had replaced that with "choice". "Times" are different now. Not. The only thing that gives a man or a nation the stamina to fight is faith and good moral judgment that come from a God greater than himself. o doesn't have one of those. Like the late Michael, his demons will come for him, but how far are we willing to let o take us with him? It's already been too far for me. Surely he has already committed an impeachable offense. Remember Nixon? He would have been king too.
