Dismissing tea parties is perilous

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Everybody complains about taxes and government spending, but nobody does anything about them.

Perhaps that’s because whenever they do something, they’re often labeled as racists, right-wing extremists or worse.

That’s what happened when various news organizations covered the April 15 “Tea Parties” across the country; the media clearly did not know what to make of such a robust turnout for the loosely organized events, and wound up dismissing or belittling it.

The Tea Party movement may or may not go forward from the tax-day protests – but any time the media or politicians dismiss a grassroots effort, they do so at great peril.

In this case, people attending those Tea Party events were consumers and voters, with a decent number of registered Democrats and independents sprinkled in.

Pennsylvania state Rep. Josh Shapiro, a Philly-area Democrat who is set to run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Republican Arlen Specter, was not keen on the rhetoric at some of the events, but he is wise enough not to ignore the real concerns of Americans who are angry.

Elected officials “should be trying to figure out where that anger is coming from and address it, rather than trying to find ways to dismiss it,” Shapiro says.

Whether or not you agree with the protesters, our country allows dissent because we believe fundamentally in free speech.

“I regularly remind my students that you know you are living in a good, strong and healthy democracy when you are offended on a daily basis,” says Lara Brown, a political scientist at Villanova University.

She disagrees “profoundly with President Obama’s chief strategist, David Axelrod, that the protestors were displaying an ‘unhealthy’ attitude. The only unhealthy – undemocratic – attitude was his.”

Purdue political-science professor Bert Rockman, on the other hand, was perfectly satisfied with the media coverage and less than impressed by the movement itself.

“But people often like the ‘goods’ (government) produces, they just don't want to pay for them,” Rockman says, calling that the prevailing attitude at the Tea Parties.

“The least the Tea Party-goers could have done was not pollute the common-resource rivers into which they threw their tea, and if they were really against waste they would have consumed the tea or given it to charity,” he adds.

People look at last fall’s financial meltdown and wonder what happened to all of that “prosperity” that they thought the government was helping to orchestrate. It makes them wonder if former Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan really was a financial genius. And what about the federal debt, which doubled under George Bush?

Obama's campaign promised change and hope, yet so far his presidency mostly has been about ramping-up government programs and spending – not necessarily the change people thought they would get.

“In short, I think people are just feeling disillusioned and duped by politicians who keep promising solutions and delivering more problems,” Villanova’s Brown says.

She thinks politicians and the media are behaving arrogantly by dismissing what is going on.

What people should remember is what President Bill Clinton said at the beginning of his 1995 State of the Union address. He made a joke about also having been elected to the presidency on a sentiment for “change” – as he looked directly at Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who had just won a majority in Congress thanks to his “Republican Revolution.”

That was then, and this is now. What, if anything, is next?

“That is the unanswered question,” says Michael Reagan, a syndicated talk-radio host and son of President Ronald Reagan.

“If what people did on April 15 is used as an end-point, then people lose,” he says. “But if the movement and energy continue, then that is something that Washington should be concerned about.”

That means everyone in Washington, not just Democrats, he adds.

Our society moves forward only when it experiences setbacks; oddly, those setbacks insure our perseverance. And the United States is a democracy that flourishes on free speech and the right to gather in protest.

Dismissing today’s anti-tax protests is a little like those dismissals of Ross Perot when he ran for president in 1992: His anti-tax, anti-big-government message – not Bill Clinton – is what really beat George H.W. Bush.

I know of no one that actually dumped tea. They used water.Another idiot that didn't know what he was talking about.

Dismissing tea parties
Didn't Parliament do that before?

msm
Msm took their marching orders from our lyincommnunityorganizingclueless president.I didn`t watch any tea parties.

Rockman, ...so typical
“The least the Tea Party-goers could have done was not pollute the common-resource rivers into which they threw their tea, and if they were really against waste they would have consumed the tea or given it to charity,” (Bert {Rock Head} Rockman)

THIS is SO typical of the progressives. They belittle Tea Party attenders by trying to re-focus the attention onto whether the tea should have been DRANK or given to charity! (those gluttenous and stingy protesters!)
I'm willing to bet the tea party attenders are far more charitable than Bert and his ilk! Progressives love to obsess on DRINKING things! They're welcome to their "koolaide" but common sense American's aren't interested in drinking poison promises. We want policies that are FAIR to TAX PAYERS.
Now that the promised tax cut for 95% of American's is on the chopping block, maybe we'll see an even BIGGER turn out at the next gathering! Then, Bert Rockhead's tea pollution and charity concern will be the least of his problems. I hope so!

Uh, what's Berts
take on the daily pooping birds that fly over or swim on the "common resource river"? Or the turtle and fish poop? How about rotted river vegetation? I guess using the
phrase common resource river makes him look like he's ever so intelligent. I just love the common sense these educated fools don't have.

I hope this does continue, we've begun to get them very worried now we have to have more with more people attending from across the political spectrum to get them running as well as worried.
This is the best chance we have to dump all the bums. And maybe we will get an honest government for a change that will investigate the corruption and some of our entrenched 'rulers' will do the perp walk..well
a girl can dream ya' know.

I hate this web site
I love the content, but the pop ups and gimmicks make me dread coming here for the content. And this is the only place I can find to complain.

Obama and Staff don't get it
Obama and his staff just want to dismiss the tea parties and pretend that it was unhealthy, but would Axelrod be saying the same thing if the protesters were expessing disdain and were against the Iraq War? Like just a few years ago. No, I am sure he was heading up that protest. At the tea parties, we were showing concern over governments wasteful spending. Its because Obama and Axelrod love having the power and that includes wasting the taxpayers money. I hope that this movement the tea parties brought continues to grow. Obama and his staff needs to stop being narcissistic and thinking its all about Obama. We should all be striving to make this country a better place instead of this partisan bickering. But, I do have to say that the LEFT has brought this on us and caused this nation to be divided. Now, It will up to us conservatives to show that we can do what "right" for the United States of America.

Ronald, I agree with you . . .
The content and the intelligence of most of us makes it a extremely worthwhile website. However, those of us with no choice but dial-up have to endure SLOW page downloads as well as having to load the page TWICE to see the whole article and comments.
One last peeve, it seems that Townhall.com is being slightly disengenuous by splitting the articles into TWO parts. Is this done to increase advertising revenue by doubling the number of "hits" that the webpages get??
Again, thanks being here.

No one threw any tea in waterways
Tea party marchers walked to show DC and the states that we object to endless taxation by gov't's that don't represent individuals anymore and only respond to the MSM and large donations.

The tea party I was in was strictly forbidden to throw anything anywhere, and I cannot imagine that the rest's parade permits did not limit the same.

It is typical of the left, which thinks it owns the streets, not to be able to fathom the actions of others, as the left spends all of its energy trying to propagandize, lie, cheat, and intimidate the masses into conformity but fails at seeing real spontaneous and individual protest.

Leftist protest has degenerated into hired professional *marchers* like Al Sharpton's or the ACORN demonstrators bused to AIG to pretend to be enraged over bonuses the law specifically allowed.

See the net for tea party calenders. Four in NJ for the 4th of July, Sept. 12 in DC.

Time to act!
We Americans are rightfully upset by the amount of horrific government deficit spending. It is the opposite direction which logic and economics demands. I know of someone who is being hurt by our current economic downturn. Instead of increasing their spending, they have decided to sell their home and then rent. They simply don't have the income to meet their monthly mortgage payments.

This young family is willing to make the necessary adjustments so they can survive. But our government takes the opposite approach. They spend dramatically more while income is down. That is illogical and destructive. Government is simply printing more money. It's the same thing as if they announced that people can start using Monopoly money to pay bills. It is against the law to produce counterfeit dollars, yet our politicians do so recklessly. The inflation that will result will steal the value of existing dollars. But the greater fear is that the weakened dollar may not survive.

History doesn't support the hope that politicians will suddenly find the courage to pull back on their spending. It is up to us to demand fiscal responsibility from our politicians, for they will not do it on their own. This is the exact reason I attended a Tea Party.

Adding fiscal insult to injury, this administration to attempting to enact so called "cap and trade" regulations. Though not called taxation, increased energy costs will result. Some experts have calculated that each family in America will pay an additional $4000 for consuming the same amount of energy if "cap and trade" laws are enacted. Call it what you will, it results in consumer taxation on energy.

If Americans want a sound currency, it is time to demand fiscal responsibility from our politicians.

Ms. Zito
Good column. The libs, and the GOP better get there ducks in a row. I will be atending my party endorsement prosses. I will fight for only conservitive candidates. I will only vote for the sane conservitive candidates. The insane libs of the GOP need not aplly. &-4-09, and 2010.
Kirk

Disobedence to tyrants is obedience to God.

Let's do a little creative . . .
monkey wrenching of our own. The obamanauts (acorn) along with george soros and republican stupidity (or complicity) gave the election to our "community-organizer-in-chief".
When the acorn community organizer (oops, I mean census worker) comes to the door or you receive the census forms in the mail, be creative in the number of people living in your household. Technically, it is not a lie if you declare people who are living in your "household" even for one day. In this way, we can get the apportionment skewed in our favor and restore "balance" to our political systems.
A third party solution is ripe for implementation also.

Obozo claimed he "wasn't aware of the

Tea Parties...

That tells us one of a couple of things...

Obozo is either:
A) lying through his big teeth

B) he's not aware of what's going on around him or in the country

C) he really doesn't care about the people

D) ALL OF THE ABOVE!

(My vote is "D"... I'm just sayin')

It wan MORE than a "decent number of registered Democrats and independents sprinkled in." There were many Democrats and independents who not only attended, but who ORGANIZED Tea Parties...

"Axelrod, that the protesters were displaying an ‘unhealthy’ attitude."

THAT is a typical Marxist statement!!!

To Anne and tj
1) The first post to this thread (as of this moment) complains that calling teaparty attitudes "unhealthy" is "Marxist".

2) The second post to this thread urges American citizens to deliberately give deceptive information to the United States census---in other words, to sabotage the census.

Do you not see a connection? I don't know any American, liberal or conservative, who would not go to the mat to protest the right of teaparty people to protest by assembling, marching, carrying signs. What we find "unhealthy" is the eagerness of teaparty people to break the law---carry loaded guns where they shouldn't, shoot their political opponents dead, and sabotage the census---all illegal, by the way---meanwhile calling their actions "patriotic". THAT is unhealthy. You can take it to the bank that every terrorist in Iraq who lays down a homemade bomb to blow up our sons and daughters thinks of himself as a "patriot", just as Tim McVeigh did when he blew up the Oklahoma City federal building because he didn't like federal employees. Let's consider some popular definitions:

Economic Stimulus: Federal money in MY district.
Pork: Federal money in YOUR district.

Excellent Man: Politican bringing money to ME.
Corrupt Crook: Politician bringing money to YOU.

Patriot: Person using violence to interrupt lawful action you don't like (like blowing up abortion clinic if you oppose legal abortion).
Terrorist: Person using violence to interrupt lawful action you approve of (like shooting government agent enforcing law you happen to hate).

Shooting people or withholding tax money to express political resistance, knowingly sabotaging the census or a law---these are ILLEGAL ACTS, not acts of patriotism. If you don't like a law, change it lawfully. Otherwise, obey it.

Ronald

Seven protestors at the RNC is news
250,000+ protestors in locations all across the country -- people who simply want sanity in their government -- is (ho, hum, sigh) SO yesterday!

Barry Hussein doesn't get it. And that's not all he doesn't get.

69% Approval Announced Just Now
Sunday morning, Stephanopolous, 69% national approval of Obama's presidency in latest poll.

With all courtesy extended to the teaparty folks, they would appear to be in the minority according to national opinion.

lilly, I see you have returned...
along with your holier than thou attitude. You said, "Shooting people or withholding tax money to express political resistance, knowingly sabotaging the census or a law---these are ILLEGAL ACTS, not acts of patriotism. If you don't like a law, change it lawfully. Otherwise, obey it."

None of the TEA (taxed enough already) attendees shot anyone. As one of those attendees I am very sure that a majority, if not all, have always paid their taxes, just like me. We know, just like you, that taxes are necessary BUT there comes a point when it becomes unsustainable and we are smart enough to know that the current administration is not just spending this generation into the poor house but generations to come.

We have a lot of problems and one of the biggest is the disregard of our Constitution by our government. Our economy is based on nothing but consumption (due to a lot of contributing factors) but most sane people know that neither they, nor our government can spend their way out of debt.

If this administration, as well as the last one, truly wanted to solve the economic problems they would have never started all this bail out nonsense.

Oh lilly: Do you even know who

Stephanopolous is? And what poll?? HA HA HA

Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling
to Earth

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123690358175013837.html

By DOUGLAS E. SCHOEN and SCOTT RASMUSSEN

"It is simply wrong for commentators to continue to focus on President Barack Obama's high levels of popularity, and to conclude that these are indicative of high levels of public confidence in the work of his administration. Indeed, a detailed look at recent survey data shows that the opposite is most likely true. The American people are coming to express increasingly significant doubts about his initiatives, and most likely support a different agenda and different policies from those that the Obama administration has advanced.

"Polling data show that Mr. Obama's approval rating is dropping and is below where George W. Bush was in an analogous period in 2001. Rasmussen Reports data shows that Mr. Obama's net presidential approval rating -- which is calculated by subtracting the number who strongly disapprove from the number who strongly approve -- is just six, his lowest rating to date.

"[Obama's Poll Numbers Are Falling to Earth] M.E. Cohen

"Overall, Rasmussen Reports shows a 56%-43% approval, with a third strongly disapproving of the president's performance. This is a substantial degree of polarization so early in the administration.

"Mr. Obama has lost virtually all of his Republican support and a good part of his Independent support, and the trend is decidedly negative.

Cont.... Read it and weep! LOL

lilly
You're missing the obvious. Producers don't have to withold their taxes they simply have to produce less to starve the beast, and that is where our government's fiscal policies is going to lead.

Producers also can and will spend less money lowering sales tax revenues, the built in to every product taxes, and eventualy income taxes as service providers and consumer products manufacturers lay people off in response to reduced spending.

These would normally be bad things as our economy will not fully recover from this recession, but as any revenue to government leads to more government control and tyranny starving the beast increases individual liberty which is far more important than the strength of the overall economy.

lilly: You really ARE crazy, aren't you?

"What we find "unhealthy" is the eagerness of teaparty people to break the law---carry loaded guns where they shouldn't, shoot their political opponents dead, and sabotage the census---all illegal, by the way---meanwhile calling their actions "patriotic". THAT is unhealthy."

NOT ONLY DID NONE OF THAT HAPPENED... It was duly noted that the Tea Partiers CLEANED UP AFTERWARDS!!!

Oh, and about "sabotage the census!" Good point! You really should speak to Obozo and his henchmen in OUR WHITE HOUSE about that... THEY'RE RESPONSIBLE!!!

Taxation without Representation
President Obama was elected, so was the Democratics party, so the tea party was the wrong symbol. As to the grass roots movement, the numbers would have been a lot smaller without the 24 hours a day promotion by Fox News.

Winner here news corp.

The message of the movement was confusing. Tax protests when Obama's plan is to lower taxes on 95% of Americans. Deficits, there were deficits under GWB but no tea parties then. Where were the signs saying bring back Bill Clinton.

So what was really behind the tea parties? Mourning the end of the Reagan Era. These folks are still having a hard time believing that Obama got elected and even a harder time accepting his popularity.

dissing the tax day protestors
The ones in charge of the leftist agenda dismiss any conservative actions not out of ignorance, (they knew full well what the tea party was about) but, as a means of trivializing any action other than their own Marxist ones. This goes for any of the talking heads, our (impartial?) media and the world government politicians (sadly and ignorantly) elected to office.

JMO51
First, double check, but I believe that they are taking away the 400 pitiful dollars we were promised.

Second, When they let the Bush tax cuts expire next year everyone who pays taxes will be paying more. The average family earning 60k will be paying 2k more. Two-income families are looking at increases from 2k to 15k or so.

Third, Cap and trade will add a burden of at least 2k to most households.

Fourth, All the insane spending of borrowed money will have peoples grandchildren paying off Obama's debt.

Fifth, All the printing of useless dollars will cause inflation a tax on everyone.

Sixth, All higher taxes on businesses will be paid by citizens in prices and lost jobs.

Joel-De Oppresso Liber
Excellent point. Should one get representation if they don't pay taxes? Probably not.

COLLEGE PROFESSORS--WELFARE/NO WORK
It is east to dismiss the complaints of Tea Partys when you have tenure in an Ivory Tower.

College Professors are the last place I would look for an objective opinion.

I mean, come on, is there really any diversity in colleges except for the diversity of false ideas?

It is ironic that where diversity is imposed in the make-up of the student population according to race, the diversity in Ideas, the most important area that colleges should promote, is devoid of real diversity.

HYPOCRITES AND EDUCATED DERELICTS INHABIT OUR COLLEGES AND TEACH OUR CHILDREN RUBBISH.

IS THAT CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU?

ROWDY BOOTS

MIS-represented
Question how can anyone say we've been represented if the government doesn't READ the bills they pass? (hat tip to Vicki)

I'd say we are MIS-represented.

TEA Parties Were About Gov't Spending
TEA Party critics continue to either miss the point or choose to ignore that the TEA Party Protests were and continue to be about the incomprehensible government spending totaling Trillions of dollars. Americans have correctly concluded that government spending on this scale will bankrupt the country. That deficits this large are unsustainable and that we won't be able to tax enough incomes, products or services to pay the interest on such a debt, much less pay back the principal. The numbers are simply too large.
While the good professor correctly points out that most Americans don't like paying taxes, much less, increasing taxes, he fails to understand the underlying realities of the average citizens greater concerns for the survival of the country. Americans have shown on more than one occasion that they are willing to sacrifice for the good of the country; but they aren't willing to squander the riches of this great land on stupidity. Unfortunately many have recognized that that is exactly what the current Congress and the new administration are doing. Hence the TEA Parties.

Tea Party
I went to the Valencia, CA Tea Party and I didn't see anyone dump any tea. Furthermore, when everyone left the area, it was as clean as when they came. No trash, debris or anything.
UNLIKE THE LIBERAL LEFT THAT LEFT TONS OF TRASH AFTER THE CORNONATION IN JAN. Hmmmmmm.

It's in their DNA
Expecting politicians to solve economic or social problems is akin to going to an auto mechanic to have your appendix removed. The political class is genetically predisposed to spending money. It's their sole area of competency. When asked to suggest a solution for any problem, the reflexive answer from any elected official or bureaucrat is "We need more money." Reminds me of the Wayans brothers - Mo Money routine.

What "healthy democracy"
Our founders had learned from the Greeks, rejected de-mob-ocracy, and mandated a republic in Article 4, Section 4. Democracies allow one mob to buy, steal, and fabricate 50.01% of the votes and then force everyone to march in lockstep with their vision of America.

God restore our republic and our goal of individual freedom/responsibility.

JMO51 wrong again...
"Taxation without Representation
President Obama was elected, so was the Democratics party, so the tea party was the wrong symbol"

The symbol was perfect, as it was in the spirit of our forefathers, and it is an acronym also---TEA = Taxed Enough Already.

"As to the grass roots movement, the numbers would have been a lot smaller without the 24 hours a day promotion by Fox News."

No they would not BUT if not for FOX News there would have been no coverage at all by mass media.

"The message of the movement was confusing. Tax protests when Obama's plan is to lower taxes on 95% of Americans."

He cannot lower taxes for 95% of Americans because only about 51% pay INCOME taxes. It is also a fallacy since with the implementation of CAP and TRADE along with national healthcare taxes will go up along with everything else.

"Deficits, there were deficits under GWB but no tea parties then. Where were the signs saying bring back Bill Clinton."

My biggest problem with deficits under GWB was the irresponsibility of Congress to cut deficit discretionary spending during a time of war. Here is the crux of it, both parties were complicit in not being responsible stewards of the people's tax dollars.

"So what was really behind the tea parties? Mourning the end of the Reagan Era. These folks are still having a hard time believing that Obama got elected and even a harder time accepting his popularity."

What is behind the tea parties is a prevailing common sense among common people that government has no common sense and we would like for future generations to continue to enjoy the rights of life, liberty and property. In other words we don't want to work for the government. They are supposed to be working for all of us.

2nd Amendment
Don't forget the Ninth Amendment. It says that we have the right to use guns to defend ourselves even if the founders forget to mention that fact or used confusing (militia?) language.

Tea bag celebration
The tea parties so beloved by the masses were a referendum on the power of Fox News. The masses, moved to protest, numbered what? Tens of thousands in every state of the union? The numbers I heard were 5000 in Sacramento (our state government is really incompetent), 8000 at the Alamo, and then... Even Fox does not give a number to the protesters. Why?

Could it possibly be that the hype of the protest is more important than the protests themselves? And if numbers of protesters were cited, Fox would be in really deep trouble.

You few, you precious few, you band of brothers. My apologies to the Bard. There were more than enough of you to sound the death knell of conservativism.

Bleeding Heart Liberal admits...
his state's (Colliefornicationia) government is really incompetent....hmmmmm, if I am not mistaken it is infested with bleeding heart Liberals, go figure?

Dismiss and mock
Personal attacks have become the standard response of liberals when they are confronted, challenged, or questioned. That's true from bloggers to Congress and the White House. You can get away with it if your personal attacks are against political figures. However, the liberals are now attacking everyday folks. That's not going to work. The more they mock and insult us, the stronger our resolve.

Professors
Based on the quotes from Prof Rockman, it's obvious to me that he "doesn't get it". (Just like that silly CNN reporter who asked a question of a guy with a 2 year old in his arms, then precluded him from answering and "heckled" him over what he said.) The vast majority of the attendees at the tea parties aren't looking for "goods from the government". They're trying to get the meddlesome government out of their lives.

The government does virtually nothing well and always at a greater cost than would be in non-government.

Our education system is a good example. The US spends a profound amount of money on education, yet we don't do well on the world stage. The answer, I'm sure Prof Rockman would support, is MORE MONEY - To which I say POPPYCOCK!

Been to the driver's license office lately?

With respect to Prof Brown from Villanova - Now this lady DOES GET IT. Go Girl!!!!

Ms. Zito - Excellent article!!

A question to those in power...
"Do you really want to hurt me?
Do you really want to make me cry?"

Well, go ahead and do so if you want. Just be mindful of what comes after the crying.

Anger.
Determination.
Increased resolve.

Oh, and more tax protests with bigger crowds.

The way the Left abuses power when they have it in hand these days is both depressing and frightening. It's like turning to the Dark Side of the Force... they're shifting more and more to favor the worst parts of human nature, and they're not even bothering to hide it anymore.

It's for this reason and others like it that I will never seek to run for a public office... not until I've had a certain question about politics and power answered to my satisfaction:

"Is it the person who corrupts the power or is it the power which corrupts the person?"

So far, nobody has provided me with an answer I can accept, one way or the other. Please let me know your opinion (people or power) and the reason why. I really could use a little spirit-lifting today...

Wild Bill here goes...
I could use some up lifting myself.

My answer is that people without an anchor, a belief that there is more to life than mortality are more susceptible to corruption that power brings because they believe that today is all there is.

That is why, I believe, the founders understood this and why they encouraged the belief in God, knowing good character and good morals must have a base or anchor, because without them humans become lost in a sea of causes that are not really important in the bigger scheme of things.

I am grateful for that anchor and for the knowledge that this world is not my home. I'm just passing through.

Tea Parties & Taxes
I went to my local tea party. Like most citizens, I recognize that some taxes must be paid. But the federal government has gotten too big, and will get much, much bigger under the current administration.

Additionally, I do not like a lot of the programs my tax dollars go to. Abortions, whether domestic or foreign, should not be federally funded. The government didn't pay my medical bills when I chose to have a baby, so why should they pay when someone chooses to throw it in the trash?

And Cap and Trade legislation scares the heck out of me. How will the poor and elderly handle the huge increase in their utility bills? For that matter, how will the middle class?

Lily
You seem to be okay with the huge amounts of debt being incurred by this administration. You don't seem to care if excessive inflation occurs, or if the currency itself is able to survive this onslaught of irresponsibility.

Well you should care, and will care when double digit inflations erodes the purchasing power of the dollar. The course of fiscal action taken by both Bush and Obama is obscene and will prove disastrous.

While politicians of all both parties are responsible for this problem, Obama has taken deficit spending to levels never seen before. Levels that practically guarantee the end of our currency. Unlike politicians, mathematics don't lie. Time is of the essence, wake up before ideological dreamers like yourself allow irresponsible politicians like Obama to destroy this country.

Bleeding Heart Liberal
Last count on PJ Media was over 700,000 - my state FL had few counts on that site. I know *personally* of three other small towns that had 200-500 each. if this trend across America - then 700,000 is a drop in the bucket.

BTW getting a accurate count is difficult since GRASS root movements are not well organized. (Unlike the lefts ongoing astro turf protests - organized by "community organizers" and special interest groups)

Just imagine how many *would* have come but had to work??

And many have become revved up for the 4th of July thanks to leftist media insults. Thanks MSNBC, CNBC and CNN! We couldn't have motivated them without you!

Dismissing tea parties?
Nothing is more American.

The Tea Party in Phoenix was a success, around 5000 participants, some decent speakers, and plenty of right on signs and loud exhortations like: NO NEW TAXES!, NO BAILOUTS!, and THROW THE BUMS OUT! I got there an hour and half early and there was already about 500 people there. I wore my DPMS Arms cap and there were many pro-second-amendment people in the crowd. One guy had a sign that said "Impeach Obama" and when I went by I said to him, "Yeah, and send him back to Kenya". A good time was had by all.

We must take our country back and not just by donating money to causes that squander it and that may not truly represent their purported and often conflicted goals but by everyday citizens being involved and shaking things up. Taking money out of politics is one big first step. First, limit campaigns to nine months max and each politician want-to-be gets a lean, fixed budget with no outside contributions and equal media exposure. Term limits for elected office (2, 4 year terms for Senators,; 3, 2 year terms fro Representatives) and pay-for-performance, as determined by an unbiased methodology, is a must. Also the benefits attached to any office should be on par with main-street and not politicians voting their own long list of privileged and elitist benefits on the taxpayers’ dime like their full pay for life after serving one term. This will get their attention. Vote the bums out and demand reform as above!

lilly
"If you don't like a law, change it lawfully. Otherwise, obey it."

Now that's the spirit that made this country great. Read your history.

545 People Decide For You!
This is a great article of interest to grassroots activists and political leaders alike. Please read, share and discuss!

http://sovereigntyalliance.ning.com/profiles/blogs/545-peop le-decide-for-you-amp

Conservatives know what's at stake
It is very plain what is before us. The liberal elitists that have indoctrinated the poor, the elderly, the minorities and the youth now have complete control of Washington, many states and metropolitan areas in spite of their record of mismanagement and corruption. Through the pmm (Propaganda Media Machine aka msm) and their merry band of celebrity and special interest propagandists they have demonized fiscal, social and national security conservatives.

Well now we have an economic meltdown and we don't hear anything about causes other than Bush, Bush, Bush. You know that's how they won in 2006 and still managed to pass off their ineptness with the same mantra for 2008. It seems odd that after 2006 in all their attempts to get the war lost in Iraq and prosecute Bush we didn't hear one little thing about the looming economy. Because they didn't have a clue and they still don't (Their payoffs and actions regarding Fannie/Freddie prove that). To them its, we've got power and let's spend on all our projects, our union heirarchy, our wall street cronies, our energy and climate boondoggles and most definitely all our propagandists from ACORN to the pmm not worrying about the financial consequences.

We have to defeat these leftists district by district. Here in Texas we have a few lib enclaves in Dallas and Austin and along the Rio Grande but I can't believe Chet Edwards won in Waco. You talk about a Oblaba/Hi-liar-y suckup.
I think it is important to organize in districts for the Fourth of July. It has to be platfomed and loud and clear.

the messiah vs the tea parties
with the trolls they fully believe in total adulation of their messiah and savior. Despite everything the messiah has done to date will harm the country the trolls can't stop praising his efforts to diminish america

Now citizens get together to protest both the agenda of the messiah and the compliant dims and they are labeled as haters, engaging in homosexual activities or simply anti american.

The fact that unlike demonstrations organized by the left, the tea parties had no reports of violence, no reports of vandalism and no confrontations with either the police or the leftist agitators that showed upo to harrass the tea parties.

But no matter the left refises to understand why american's have learned that flap ears is not only a world class liar, but a fully committed leftist determined to destroy capitalism and instill his flawed vision of a socialist america.

But as history has proven, socialism always fails because they finally kill off the ability of society to pay the never ending plans of the socialists to reward the parasites and punish the earners

Jo and other conspiracy lovers
I saw msm video of 3 protests, Sacramento, Chicago, and the Alamo. These totaled maybe 15000. You would have me believe the MSM would show 15000 people but ignore another 650,000.

My local paper "reported" demonstrations of over 2500 people in surrounding areas that total over 2,000,000 in population, but actual video of about 25 protesters. Why is it any punk can whip out a Video camera to document police brutality and conservatives cannot do the same to support their own statements?

This was a fox media event that fizzled. Yes, we don't like to pay taxes. My taxes did not go down under bush and they have yet to go up under Obama.

SAD BUT TRUE
It's so sad to read that Axelrod labeled tea party participants as having an "unhealthy attitude." He must think we're already living in some sort of thought police nation. He'd do well to check his attitude at the door on his way out.

You should be afraid administration
We live in a small county in southern Utah and there must have been at least 2,000 + people there. Planning on another event at the state capital on July 4th. The sheer folly of this must stop.
My family lives on a budget and not off our credit cards. We work for ourselves and answer to no one but uncle Sam on tax day and the state taxes four times a year. My taxes where down and now they are up on nearly aspect of my business, from purchases of material to sales in the final product.
I don't want the government taking care of me, I do it just fine if they would leave me alone.
Not going to answer to any of you bleeding heart liberals here as you most likely still live in your mom's basement and haven't run a business or give to charities just because you want to.
God bless America and this movement will not just go away and they will be a lot bigger next time. Don't give the MSM any time, just ask where is the press?
Get together on July 4th. make your voice hear. Our constitution is the civil rights movement of the 21 st. century. A battle we can not afford to lose.
God bless our military men & women who are the real ones keeping this country safe, not the administration.

Selena Gives MSM too Much Attention
The Tea Parties are the building blocks. Patience, everyone. And I disagree with Laura Ingraham who thinks naming these "tea parties" was a bad idea. The name drives the libs into conniptions, so you know it's a keeper.

karen
axlerod is the same political adviser whop has made a career of using race to promote his candidates. Having successfully run campaigns that elected a black mayor in cleveland, the current black govenor of massachusetts and now the pretend president of the country.

Oh course axlerod is threatened by the tea parties. They directly refute what his campaign was all about and how flap ears used race over qualifications to win the election

Our "wonderful" democracy
For so long as we continue to agree that "the United States is a democracy" we will continue to see 473 sheep voting against 527 wolves on what to have for dinner.

God save our republic.

Dear CACTUSHEAD in AZ
I do wish Axelrod would apply for a job in Russia. He must admire the way Vladimir Putin runs the country in such a focused, strong willed manner. What Putin wants, Putin gets! They have interesting ways of dealing with those "bad attitude" citizens. It's a beautiful country, and he could maybe have a dacha besides a condo in Moscow. If he'd read the book "Vodka", or "Archangel", he can learn a lot about it. And would we miss him if he moved????

Question?
I wonder how Mr. Rockman felt about the polluting garbage and utter destruction of The Mall in D.C. after the king's coronation.

THANK YOU MR PRESIDENT!
Your actions and those of the lying Democratic Congress has encouraged me to return to a basic civics course. Since your inaugration, I have read the Constitution and all amendments again, Alexander Hamilton's thoughts on forming our banks, The Federalist Papers, many of Jefferson's writings and the biographies of Andrew Jackson and John Adams.

Last November had we elected a President that could be trusted not to destroy our country and our liberties all of this reading would not have been necessary. However, the refresher courses has been rewarding because my viewpoints and understanding of our government have changed since college days and I now better understand how our founding fathers were trying to protect us and provided the tools to do it. When it becomes necessary we shall rise to the cause.

So, Mr. President & Mrs House Speaker Pelosi, if you don't listen to what we are saying at the Tea Parties, we'll see you in Washington D. C. soon.

Where was it that Tea Party
where people were shot? If that had really happened the media would still be headlining it and using it to discredit the demonstrations. This Lily must truly be crazy.

I have no doubt that some people were armed, since many law abiding citizens have been vetted and have carry permits. You can bet your last dollar that if anyone with apermit shot someone it would be crowed about in every liberal propaganda instrument in America.

What is funny to me is that where Democrats are in control in cities those places are crime ridden. Sleazy Democratic politicans try to blame guns. Not drugs or single parent families or their own leftist policies that are really responsible for conditions.

In fact liberals are liars. If facts don't serve them they simply lie. Unbalanced liberals like this Lily person simply go overboard so far that they reveal their lunacy.

to REBA IN TEXAS
You go, Reba! Good for you. I've been saying the answer to all this disastrous election will come out of Texas. Call me psychic, but I know that it will. There're some things you just know, that's all!

And, REBA, another thing!
I've been reading too since this disastrous election. I've been reading up on Russia, cause I want to learn more about their government's methods to keep citizens in line, since our leaders are so bent on steering us in that direction. I have learned one thing for sure: Vladimir Putin would never curtsy to anyone!

Look into the mirror
Those who have been ridiculing the Tea Party 9using Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals #5 - ridicule the messenger in order to neutralize the message ) or owe some of their livlihood to George Soros's many, many funds - need to chill out and find their inner humanity. Then, they need to look in the mirror and practice this little speech.
I'm sorry." Then, they need to find all of the children in their family under 10 and sit them down and say "I'm sorry" to each and every one of them. These children are the ones who will be paying for the bloated spending Obama is pushing. That is what the tea parties were about. Not taxes - but dooming our babies by putting the cost of today's spending on their shoulders. I dare anyone to defend this action. It's like buying a car today and putting the loan - principle and into an envelope to be opened by their son, daughter, grandchild, on the day they begin their first job so the price can begin to be paid. It's unfair. I also remind readers that it is Congress who writes the bills to spend money - and the President signs them into action. Bush had refused to sign the Omnibus Bill so it was dragged out for Obama. He pledged to stop pork. He had his chance to put his honor where his mouth was. He failed. Enough said.

I suggest readers check out the Shadow Party. The American Socialistic Party - and then link to members of Congress who are members of this "progressive" group. Explain how they can swear to protect and uphold the Constitution of America when they also have sworn to change our country into a socialistic one? Can't do both.

To skip
If you read my post again you will find that it does not say anyone was shot. It says that teaparty participants were eager to shoot, which either they were or else they were lying on townhall when they repeatedly used such phrases as "I am locked and loaded", "I have buried extra guns in my back yard", "I am stockpiling ammunition," "I am ready for them", "just let them come, it will be Ruby Ridge all over again", and "let the new American Revolution begin---we are just like the patriots at Lexington".

If you constantly talk about how armed you are and say how ready you are to use those arms to shoot your political opponents and agents of your elected government, you may be taken seriously. And somehow I think the people who write such posts on townhall want to be taken seriously. Their purpose seems to be to scare and intimidate their fellow Americans. Why else would they brag about their guns and their ability to use firearms?

Unless you are selling so many glass beads that you are making over $500,000 a year, your federal taxes will not go up. If your property taxes are up, that's a local matter, not a federal one. How is that Obama's fault?

Tea to charity - not!
Our local Tea Party collected about five pounds of teabags to present to Mark Begich's office. Mark was in Anchorage and they didn't present tea to Lisa Murkowski or Don Young because they voted against the porkulous bill and the budget. Mark was the only one we had a beef with. Since he wasn't in his local office and the secretary said it wouldn't be sent to him, the organizers agreed that they would return the following day to take the tea to the Food Bank. The staff there agreed to that. When the Tea Party organizers returned the next day, however, they were told that Mark Begich had instructed the tea be thrown out.

Yeah. That's where Rockman's suggestion goes.

To Liberty Son
Read the post that follows yours. It describes a citizen protest aimed at impeaching a lawfully-elected President of the United States, who happens to be the first black President, three months into his Presidency. It emphasizes Second Amendment rights, a favorite subject of townhallers who don't like Obama. Then it makes light of the situation by saying "a good time was had by all". Do you wonder that people put all this together and see folks who talk that way as dangerous extremists?

Did you ever read Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath"? There's a scene when a community of country-raised folks, who feel they aren't getting a fair shake, decide to make a point so on a quiet Sunday afternoon they all march through the town carrying their guns---they are just going outside of town to hold a turkey shoot. That's all. But they do it to send the silent message "We are armed and we all know how to shoot so don't mess with us".

How is it any different now when you constantly brag about and recommend shooting and express your vehement desire that Obama should be removed from office, ASAP? What message do you think you're sending if not one of threat?

Lilly - you're wrong!
Our taxes have already gone up! That credit in our paychecks (you know, $10-15 a week) is coming from a credit most of us take on our return in April. Most people are unaware of this so will find they aren't getting a refund next year, or worse, that they owe taxes. That is happening to everyone of us who draws a paycheck RIGHT NOW. It's got nothing to do with how much money you make. And, it's not $500,000. It's $250,000 if you believe Mr. Obama's rhetoric and that's only for next year. Within five years anyone making $100,000 a year will be paying a higher tax rate and within 10 years, I suspect anyone making a paycheck will need to pay a tax rate of about 40-50% just to keep up with the interest payments on Mr. Obama's deficit spending. You know, that money -- we have to borrow it or print it. If we borrow it, we have to pay it back and if we print it, that leads to inflation. I'm sure you're old enough to remember the 1970s and how much fun those economic times were.

You are plenty old enough to not be so naive, Lilly.

Lilly dear Lilly
I make less then $50,000.00 a year and yes I see increases in my electric bill as of two months ago. The suppliers I buy glass from are ordering less and less to cut their inventory and now I can't order in discount lots anymore, so yes my glass supplies have risen 33% in the last two months. My sales are down by 75% since Sept. 29, 08 and they keep going down.

If it's not a tax increase and a small bussiness hassle I don't know what it is. To old to find a job outside the home, so I'm stuck. Working three times as hard, it cost me more and I am making so much less. If they finally tax all of us like they will have to, (to support obama's budget) They will get me there too. I have my own health insurance and don't want to go on medical or S.S. won't take the blood money.

I guess you never ran a business from the ground up or had to build business models like I have had to do twice. When you grow up you'll get it.

pathetic and senile old lilly
seems you forgot how much you bored us with your professed love and admiration of the messiah and savior posing as presidnet.

The problem with you old lefties is you think that the 60's are finally a success with your corrupt agent from acorn posing as presidnet.

It just can't penetrate that vacuum between your ears that many of us have no desire to prostrate ourselves before the flae messiah you love to worship.

But funny how you lefties always think you know the only way.

We constantly hear from this old senile harridan that to disagree with flap ears is our fault but unlike her we recognize a snake oil salesman.

Too bad pathetic old lilly remains so blinded by the messiah she can't discern the truth.

Lilly do us all a favor and retreat to you corner and gum your strained carrots

Re-tea again on July 4th.
http://www.reteaparty.com

Forgetting History
Before the American Revolution, there were several protests that should have warned England that there might be a problem in the colonies. The Boston Tea Party was one. The British arrogantly ignored it and eventually things turned violent. The Civil War had a similar genesis -- in non-violent protest that was ignored by the Southern states. The Civil Rights movement started out as non-violent, but the riots in some cities that followed later were due in large part because the gov't insisted upon ignoring the demands of the non-violent movement that came first. Now the disinfranchised voters of this country are peacefully protesting the mortgage of our country's economic future for (well, I haven't seen any benefits yet of Mr. Obama's overspending; someone get back to me on that). If the government arrogantly (and this is a VERY arrogant administration and Congress) ignores the protests, then what follows?

Those who refuse to remember history tend to end up repeating the horrible parts of it.

Observation from the Alamo
My father-in-law did not participate in the tea party there, but he did drive over from Austin to check it out. He noted how neat and orderly the scene was and that people weren't even trampling the grass. He was impressed with the peacefulness of the crowd.

And, he's more or less a liberal.

My local tea party was also peaceful and non-littering. Our local river was just unthawing so dumping tea in it wouldn't have been worthwhile even if someone had thought of that. As far as I've heard, it didn't occur anywhere in the country. You'd think MSNBC would have been all over it if it had.

Pity the Kool Aid drinkers
You know, you really have to pity the DEM Kool Aid drinkers like the few in these blogs that try to defend an administration that is so obviously "paying back" it's backers with billions that even the Kool Aid drinkers can't defend as having any positive effect on our economy. They try to pretend that the tea party participants are somehow mentally "off" since they're not part of the Obama "Lovefest", yet the few among them with at least a little bit of intelligence secretly know Obama has never done anything to even warranty the job he has now, and the fact that printing money to save the economy MUST turn into out of control inflation, like it always has in EVERY case in history.

Lilly - who mentioned impeachment?
If Mr. Obama does something worthy of impeachment, I'll be all for it. I felt that Mr. Nixon deserved to be impeached (and not pardoned) and that Mr. Clinton deserved to be impeached. I don't know that Mr. Obama has risen to that level yet, though he's certainly not serving the best interests of this country.

The tea parties were not about impeaching Mr. Obama. They were and will continue to be about a significant portion of the electorate being disinfranchised by a slim majority and forced down a path to higher taxes and more government. You might want to remember that not everyone in the American colonies wanted to secede from Britain. If Britain had listened to the early protesters, we might be Australia now. They arrogantly refused to do so and ... well, we know the history.

Of course, if we're really honest, that slim majority has been polling toward minority status and on some policies it would appear a significant majority of the country is really not happy with the direction Mr. Obama is taking the country. Check out Rasmussen sometime.

aurorawatcher
at the phoenix tea party, we had a great variety of speakers but what more impressive was how up[ to date on the issues all the participants were.

But the clarion call was for getting involved locally, doing work at the precinct level and of course alerting friends and neighbors to get out and vote and to hold the politicians accountable for what the have done and the positions they have taken.

The time has come at long last where people have decided the status quo got us in to this problem and the time is long past to vote out the career pols more interested in catering to the special interests rather than heeding the voice of the electorate.

There is a new consciousness that is growing but of course those who are drinking the messiah's koolaide don't want to believe it

Why Mr president
Lilly the tea parties were focused around a central issue that was easy to understand but was just the tip of the iceberg. How is it that the main stream media ignored or at best downplayed the newsworthyness of hundreds of thousands of citizens from all political parties that had as a common interest to protest the the fear of bankrupting our country as well as facing individual financial ruin. I'll make it simple for you--if you were broke do you believe that you could spend your way out of debt by borrowing money from a resource that you would not be able to repay. Why--because you spent the money on things that do not generate a profit after expenses that you would be able to use to pay off the debt.

That is just one issue,,check out this list at my blog entitled Why Mr. president:
http://davidspears.blogtownhall.com/2009/04/26/why_mr_presi dent.thtml

Lilly and guns
Lilly, you have become quite a star. However, the comments on this site from freedom lovers about their guns generally refer to using them for defense and not for offense. Unfortunately, your mob in our "wonderful" de-mob-ocracy has become dominant as it is quite willing to send out armed representatives to force everyone to open their wallets for their benefit. That offensive use of guns is very offensive to me. Hence, tea parties.

Obonzo = American Caligula
Lilly scrawls with her pink crayon on yellow paper:

"Sunday morning, Stephanopolous, 69% national approval of Obama's presidency in latest poll."

Yes, well . . . .

The Roman emperor Caligula was initially popular with citizens of the Roman Empire, too. But it became quickly apparent that he was not only depraved and monstrous, but that he was also insane.

Caligula spent enormous amounts of public money on foolish projects.

Who does that remind you of?

Caligula claimed to be divine; in fact, he claimed to be ALL the gods of Roman mythology at once.

Who does that remind you of?

Caligula threatened to kill the entire Roman Senate.

Okay, so we haven't reached that point--YET.

A vivid contrast ...

The folks who attended the Tea Parties of 15 April were united in the desire to have less of their property expropriated by the government and more personal freedom.

The folks who attended the numerous Obama campaign events and subsequent affairs are united in the desire to have more from the government (after it has been seized from taxpayers) and are happy to trade that for less personal freedom. The unasked question: when everyone is suckling from the government, who will provide the milk?

One is tempted to consider labeling the latter gatherings as Teat Parties.

Bud in OK...
I love that..."Teat Parties" how appropriate!

Well as I know of it…
A party is in the works for July the 4th Nationwide. The last party had (I guess I seen posted) about 400,000 people turn out. Prices are still going up, pay is the same or going down, and the Gov. is still stealing money from the masses and giving it to the “Cannot fail corporations”. I will have to make a guess on this next one, (I do not want to see this happen) and that is “IF” the Gov. and that is FED, STATE and LOCAL do not start backing off on the Tax, Fee’s and Sir Charges I do think that there are some Americans that may start taking it personally. I do think that it is getting closer to the breaking point of many Americans; and those that think the glass is half full and all is fine and that the “DOOM and GLOOM” people are just crying well, you best hold on to your shorts! You can only put an animal in a corner just so long before it bites.

Turn your local July 4th celebration...
...into an Independence Day Tea Party!

Now THERE'S an idea!

If the Left can laugh off one Tea Party Day, they won't be able to laugh off a WHOLE BUNCH of such days throughout the year!

Just like the incoming tide, be as unyielding as the ocean waves and your opponents will stop ignoring you.

Bleeding Heart Liberal

I saw msm video of 3 protests, Sacramento, Chicago, and the Alamo. These totaled maybe 15000. You would have me believe the MSM would show 15000 people but ignore another 650,000. -- BHL

====================

YES!

Do you seriously think Olberman, Matthews, Mardow, CNN, The NY Times, and other MSM were counting people they were busily bashing?

Big Government!
We didn't know what big government was until our new President came to the high office. He wants to run every thing. I heard today that Ford is doing a lot better, and they were the only car company that didn't take money.Seems like if the Government would keep out of private firms they would do a whole lot better.

I also finally figured out why some one like Soros would back the left policies.Last year he made a couple billion dollars betting that the US government would do badly. What better way to insure he will have another good year was to back the most liberal person to run the country. He didn't back Obama because he thought he would help America,he backed Obama because he knew his policies were bad for America and good for him to make more, much more money. Sick, there is no other word for it. SICK!

Yes Yvonne, "SICK" it is...
"You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot lift the wage-earner by pulling down the wage-payer. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. You cannot establish security on borrowed money. You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves."

~ William Boetcker (1873-1962) German-born Presbyterian clergyman

With what justification might a reasonable person acquit the current administration of ANY count??

Bleeding Heart Liberal
My father-in-law drove to the Alamo from Austin out of curiosity. He's more or less a liberal (if he'd bother to vote, it would be easier to pin him down). He estimated 15,000 at the Alamo and he said the local paper quoted the Alamo administration as saying there were close to 20,000.

My own local tea party didn't make the national news, but there were about 300 who signed a petition and the crowd grew after the petition sheets were full. The estimate was about 500 total, plus people driving by on the main thoroughfare honking their horns in support. Our tea party occurred during the work day, so a lot of people couldn't get it off. It was also cold outside (April in Alaska, it's snowed that morning). I can't speak for all of them, but the local organizer here doesn't own a TV, so I'm pretty sure she didn't get the idea from Fox News. She said she got it off of a blog attached to the Constitution Party webstie. Friends around the country attended local tea parties as well. They all reported a few hundred to several thousand attendees, but depending on how liberal their community is, they noted that their local news coverage was spotty. My friend Mark lives in Los Angeles and he attended one. He knew of several others. Yet the local news hardly covered it.

So, if you're getting your news from CNBC or CNN, you might not realize that there is this grassroots movement getting started, but that just goes to show what poor news sources they are.

IMF vs. Tea Party
There sure has been plenty of media attention for the 100 or so protesters against the IMF in Washington DC this weekend....the ony thing missing was the full-court press by the MSM to belittle and dismiss them as irrelevant.

The fact that they were battling the police seems to have not been worthy of any commentary either.

At every Tea Party I have attended (3 so far)I have seen Police Officers smiling with their thumbs in their wastebands, enjoying the easiest duty of their careers.

Contrast that with ANY Liberal Protest before or yet to come and there is the wholesale evidence of the double-standard that I will not allow to exist any longer.

Last night I attending the organzation meeting for bringing together the various movements and groups (Tea Party, 9-12 Project, Founding Fathers, etc.), that are completely fed up with the Federal Government of Obama down in Dover, Delaware.

We are coming together quickly and with civility to achieve our goals.

The government is going to listen to the people or the government is going to be replaced.

There is much more to come.

Obama Blusters
Heard Obama's 100-Days celebratory speech on the radio tonight. He took a couple of swipes at the tea parties. Sounded rattled by the assemblies, in my opinion. He should be rattled. He knows where his policies are taking us ... I think he's just worried we will be able to get to congress before he does more damage. He really, REALLY doesn't want to irritate Soros.

Off topic: One thing I've noticed about Obama. He talks very aggressively when mentioning banks and auto makers, et al. He almost sounds like a very tyrannical father scolding a misbehaving child. Where is all this bravado when addressing the Unions bosses or Chavez or Ortega?? What a paper tiger this buffoon is. Not even Robin Hood would want to keep company with him, regardless of "honor among thieves."
