Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

As each day passes, more Republicans say they’ll run against U.S. Senator Arlen Specter in next spring’s Pennsylvania GOP primary – making it ever less likely that Specter’s political obituary will be written.

At least not next spring; we’ll get to his general-election problems in just a bit.

A couple weeks ago, the buzz was that Specter’s run for a sixth term was out of reach: He was one of three Republican senators who gave the Democrat-controlled Congress and the Obama administration the votes to pass a near-$1 trillion stimulus bill.

Almost instantly, supply-sider Pat Toomey dropped his plan to run for governor and turned back to a re-match with Specter, who he very nearly upset in 2004. With “tea parties” sprouting across the state over congressional spending, with a union-friendly “card-check” vote looming in the Senate, Toomey seemed destined to crush Specter.

But then more Republicans – two, specifically, to the way-right of Toomey: Johnstown’s Peg Luksik and Philly native Larry Murphy – formed exploratory committees.

“The more, the merrier – that is, if you are Arlen Specter,” said Pennsylvania political pollster G. Terry Madonna. “Specter can only hope for a crowded primary. With possibly four running to the right of him, he comes up the winner.”

Turnout also helps Specter. His 2004 primary battle with Toomey had a larger-than-normal turnout, which staved off Toomey’s surge.

Oddly, Pennsylvania’s famed “T” (the 30 conservative, rural counties across the top and down the center of the state) voted for Specter over Toomey back then. Contrary to conservative legend, Specter did not earn that vote because President Bush and Pennsylvania’s other GOP senator, Rick Santorum, campaigned for him; he won there because he reminded voters of the results he’d brought them over the years.

Unions could affect turn-out. Yes, that’s right – union members voting Republican in a primary. State AFL-CIO president Billy George is committed to converting union Democrats and family members into short-term Republicans to guarantee a Specter win – all because of card-check.

“The card-check issue reflects one of the big knocks on Specter,” said Phil Singer, a Democrat strategist who helped steer Sen. Bob Casey’s victory over incumbent Santorum.

Singer thinks Specter’s problem is not looking at card-check on its merits but evaluating it through a political lens, to gauge its impact on his campaign and “trying to be all things to all people.”

If the still-undeclared Toomey campaign can get Luksik out (which appears unlikely) and expand turnout in central Pennsylvania, Toomey can move from his 2004 primary vote tally of 47 percent to 51 percent. But those are no small tasks.

If the math goes in Specter’s favor, what about the general election?

A very ambitious state representative, Josh Shapiro, is on the verge of challenging him. A Montgomery County Democrat mega-star, he has all the hallmarks that Specter typically tries to run on: pragmatism, smarts, aggression.

A lot of Democrats respect Specter’s service, but elections are almost always about tomorrow. And the state’s 1.2 million new Democrats have no history of voting for Specter.

Shapiro would have to give up his seat – and his meteoric rise in state house leadership – to run. Why take that political risk?

It's pretty simple: Very few opportunities exist for him to seek higher office at the moment. He lives in U.S. Rep. Allison Schwartz’s district, the local state senator is going nowhere, and Shapiro already supports Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato’s bid for governor.

While Shapiro has little name recognition beyond the Southeast, Singer says his reputation as a reformer with fresh ideas and energy will work in his favor.

And Dan Fee, Gov. Ed Rendell's former campaign spokesman, believes geographical identification won’t matter in the 2010 general election. “There has been such a population shift benefiting the Southeast, where Shapiro is widely known and respected, the sheer numbers alone outweigh everything west of Philly and her collar counties.”

Still, longtime Philadelphia consultant Larry Ceisler is skeptical of Specter losing any of these races: “With the exception of Gov. Rendell, I don't think anyone could defeat Arlen Specter in a general election … and I do not think Toomey or Luksik could defeat any Democrat in a general election.”

Adds Ceisler, who thinks the country is at risk if either party wins 60 Senate seats: “For the GOP to put what would be a relatively safe seat in jeopardy is beyond me.”

A Battle Worth Fighting
Specter needs to go. Conventional wisdom is that he votes with his party enough of the time that it's still better than having a Democrat in the seat, but clearly he's outlived his usefulness for us. If Toomey throws his hat in, the others need to clear the field so that he can raise enough money to hold off the unions and other Democrats that will want to face Specter in the general election. We may not win, but we need to give it our best shot. http://theclosetconservative.com

Old Two-Faced RINO Hack....

Isn't the old Coot 79 years old with recurring cancers? Just shows the inane, "Stuck on Stupid" mentality of Pa... especially the Schmucks in the big cities, like Philly, and Murtha's District.
Of course, he is not the only prescription drug riddled, addle brained Old Man who belongs in a Nursing Home, rather than the US Congress..

Specter = RINO , useless
along with Collins, Snowe, Cochran, Wicker, Bond, Shelby, Murkowski, Alexander Lamar, and anyone else who voted for Porkulus.

Specter for president?
"I hope the upper echelon in the Republican party won't be so damned stupid this time and back the sombeech again."

Maybe the RINOs will rig the nomination again, so that Specter is the Republican nominee for president in 2012. After all, that's what they did for McCain, and he voted against his party as many times as Specter.

A friend of mine worked for Spector
Said all workers had great respect for the man, both Con and Liberals.

The point is...
Specter is a liberal. We need to see a conservative take him out.

I agree that should the conservative lose to another tax and spend democrat, at least a true debate will have been accomplished and watching tax and spend fail again might eventually wake people up to voting for a conservative in the future.

Charles Took the Words Right
out my mouth! Even as a Texan, it shows that Specter's misrepresentation of himself as Republican impacts everyone, not just Pennsylvanians.

And Wrat Wrangler is on the money as well. The Dems WANT us to keep Specter in because it lets them allow one of their own off the hook. How does the make Specter feel, knowing that he is actually helping the Democratic party? He is not just voting his conscience...he must know that he is conciously helping the Democrats!

The same goes for Snowe, Collins, Hagel, Voinovich, et al. So what is the difference? Te difference will be that even if Toomey wins the Primary, it doesn't really matter if he falls to a Democrat. At least he will have done us a service by retiring Specter, and, more importantly, sending the message to all those like Specter: Vote with the Dems at your political peril.

Arlen the Filibuster-Killer
"Adds Ceisler, who thinks the country is at risk if either party wins 60 Senate seats: 'For the GOP to put what would be a relatively safe seat in jeopardy is beyond me.'"

If Specter votes with the Democrats on crucial issues, what is the point of the Republican Party spending money to keep him? Better to run an actual conservative, and even if he loses, what really was lost?

This pearl of wisdom, offered by an old white guy.

Make Specter a Spectator
We must get rid of these A**hole RINO's like Specter, COllins and Snowe. They are killing our country and our party!

We will not regain control by being Democrat lite, we must give a definite choice between the parties! I would rather lose with my flag waving high and proudly and my colors bright a bold rather than win or lose with my flag low and my colors a "pale pastels".

Face it Guys PA has flipped
The Unionistas, welfareites, the weak of spirit who don't think they can feed/house themselves without help, and the dead and cartoon characters registered by ACORN now consitute a SOLID majority of your voters.

Specter WILL lose if he should run again, but it will be to a Democrat, and that will be OK.

Maybe sometime down the road the country can recreate 1980 or 1994 ... or maybe not. Either way folks like Specter, Snowe, and Collins are PART OF THE PROBLEM.

America's moronic voting system
We see right here what's wrong with the plurality system America clings to: a popular position attracts lots of support, and splits the vote for this position, since you're allowed to rank only ONE candidate. So a candidate representing an unpopular position gets through.

In Australia's superior preferential voting, voters are not restricted to rank only their first choice, but rank the others in order of preference. So if your first choice is not elected, and no candidate has 50% of the first preference, then second preferences are added. This way, the elected candidate is the one *preferred* by most voters. E.g. a conservative voter in PA might like Toomey best, but if he can't have Toomey, his preference for other conservatives is taken into account.

Australia's superior system eliminates the voter-thwarting role of spoilers, who hurt the candidates closest to them.

WHAT'S the difference?
Spector, Collins, Snowe, Chaffee et al are RINOs!!!! They vote WITH the Dems 90% of the time and PROUDLY set out to SCREW conservatives at every turn. WHO needs THEM?

Election farce
The 2008 Presidential Election was a farce. It was not between a Democrat Party candidate and a Republican Party candidate. It was between a CPA (Communist Party of America) member and a RINO (Republican In Name Only). The RINO candidate was chosen by the CPA because he had military experience, and their anointed CPA candidate didn’t. The RINO candidate was nominated by Democrat voters in states with open primaries where they could use crossover votes to select the GOP candidate before Republican voters had chance to vote for their choice.

The big mistake was in the selection of the VP candidate for the RINO Party. Sarah Palin was the most qualified, and exciting candidate in the campaign, including all the members of Congress in line for the Presidency. As soon as they realized their mistake, the CPA sent out the attack dogs to vilify Palin whenever and wherever possible. The RINO Party put her in the crosshairs of the CPA wherever and whenever they could.

The RINO Party candidate campaigned as a RINO, not as a Republican. Whenever possible, the RINO Party candidate praised the CPA candidate, and crossed over to the CPA whenever possible. He had established a record in Congress as a RINO, not as a Republican.

CPA members of Congress deliberately caused the national economy to go into the worst recession in decades and blamed the RINO Party. The RINO Party candidate happily accepted the blame.

The CPA spent as much campaign money as possible on the CPA candidate; while the RINO Party spent as little as possible on their candidate. This election was like a soccer game where the net at one end of the field was one foot larger than the ball diameter, and the net at the other end was ten feet high and as long as the field was wide.

After deliberately losing the election, the RINO Party candidate is praising and kissing the a@@ of the CPA candidate.

Crowded Primary, Oooo
Don't blame Zito, she's just running with same old narrative Republicans use every time an imcumbent invites a credible Primary challenge.

But Zito neglected to note that Toomey had to fight against his own party besides Rick Santorum and President Bush.

Note to PA-GOP (the RSCC, Newt "the backstabber" Gingrich, et. al.): Here's the thing...like it or not this is Specter's last term. If there is anyone in your outfit with half a brain cell still firing, they would advise PA-GOP to STAY OUT of the next primary. If you are LUCKY Pat Toomey will agree to run!

If you are lucky, conservative activists supporting Toomey will allow Republicans to help his campaign.

submarine specter
Pull all republican party support from specter and encourage him to run as a demo--then go after him. He should have been removed for screwing up the supreme court votes. He should not be allowed to call himself a republican.

some kind of wimp???

You DIDN'T watch those videos, did you?

BUT, I think I figured out your problem... well, at least one of them!

Pres. Bush knew he was PRESIDENT... unlike Bozo who thinks he's "king" or "czar" or the "Easter Rabbit" or something.

There is a separation between the branches of government, (it's that old "balance of power thing! Who knew!) and as PRESIDENT, Bush went to Congress (as he should have done!) instead of whipping out that Exec. Order pen...

And yes, there is that issue of a Republican controlled Congress, but then there's that pesky ol' rule about "majority"... simple and two thirds, etc., and then you get into votes to prevent a filibuster, etc., etc., etc.

You really should do some reading about that... You'll better understand how thing really work on The Hill, and how it's not just a simple and simplistic as you'd like to think.

But the bottom line is, the LIBERAL IN CONGRESS LIED about Mac and Mae, and were just hateful when the very question of "investigation" and "more oversight" came up....

Meeks even said he was "p!ssed off." Whoa!

Shallow Hal
If conservatism were dead, you would not be here arguing with conservatives..."

Sure I would

"...Conservatives did not unite behind McCain..... In any event, Hal, enjoy the day, as tomorrow (meaning the next election cycle) may not be what you hope for..."

Conservatives are less than about 20% of the electorate now and should stay that way. While you folks stir tempest after tempest the rest of America is trying to rebuild the country you folks damaged so badly

Wrong on all counts, Salena
First, the "temporary Republican" phenomenon mentioned in this article was first seen in 2004, which is why Specter won the "T" counties, and there's no doubt, as Salena says, that we'll see it again. She just forgets to mention that it happened in 2004.

Second, by election time in 2010, it will be obvious to everyone that the stimulus is not only a huge failure as far as economic recovery but also that it has triggered rampant inflation, returning us to the "stagflation" of the 1970s. While the Dems will get most of the blame for that, Specter, as a willing accomplice, will also get the blame. Average Americans will figure this one out, just as they did in 1980.

Third, Pat Toomey is a good man and more than conservative enough for me and most other Pennsylvanians. We'll unite behind him to nominate him, and his message of fiscal responsibility will resonate with a majority of voters here as he retains our Senate seat for the Republican Party and regains it for conservatives.

Finally, the 2010 elections will be a dress rehearsal for 2012, when we elect the next generation's Ronald Reagan. Keep the faith!

Until recently...
...I was a voter in Pennsylvania for many years, and I am proud of the fact that I never once voted for Arlen Spector, either in the primaries or the general election. Now I am lost here in upstate New York, where I don't have ANYONE to vote FOR! :-(

Safe Seat for GOP?
Specter is not a RINO, he is a closet Democrat. I find Ms. Zito's analysis an exercise in the numbers game with little to no consideration for how PA voters view Specter both for his "Porkulus" vote and his constant support of the Dems in committee.

As for the Dems running against who ever wins the Republican primary, they have their own problems to deal with, specifically, an incompetent, arrogant, failing president.

Shallow Hal
If conservatism were dead, you would not be here arguing with conservatives.

Conservatives did not unite behind McCain. Wu Wei complains about how primaries are set up in states but forgets that the GOP, on the state level, agreed to it. His/her candidate would have been equally divisive. The point is, we had no slate of candidates from which we could agree upon one. Maybe the GOP and conservatives have taken this lesson to heart. In any event, Hal, enjoy the day, as tomorrow (meaning the next election cycle) may not be what you hope for.

Remember that your candidate, the Porcine Pot-bellied Pantsuiter, was not chosen by over half of the people voting in the Dem primaries even though Rush was encouraging conservatives to get out and vote for her for the primary.

Specter welcomes all new rivals
Because of our flawed voting system, of course Arlen Specter welcomes more people to challenge his Senate seat to dilute the competition. A much fairer election method is the use of Instant Runoff Voting ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting). At least with this method, voters get a consensus of who they want to serve them.

NOT stuck with RINOs
“For the GOP to put what would be a relatively safe seat in jeopardy is beyond me.” - This attitude is exactly why we're stuck with all these RINOs. Specter has to go, along with the two Maine girls to start with.

First, I hope the sombeech gets all the rivals he cares to debate, and then some.

Third main issue with primaries
There is a third issue with the Republican primary, probably the biggest of all. Some of the largest states, blue states, awarded their delegates winner-take-all. This worked exactly the way the RINO party leadership planned it: McCain won based on winning a tiny plurality in a 5 candidate race in Democratic states (by Democratic cross-over vote).

If instead delegates had been split based on vote count, like the Democrats did, then Romney would have been in the lead on the day where in real life he ended up dropping out.

Define it.
The reason there is little agreement on who is a RINO and who is a CINO is because the words "conservative" and "liberal" have no real meaning in the minds of either party.

What would Obama do?
Whatever Obama would do, do the exact opposite. It’s not too hard to figure out. Arlen Spector ran as a sick man in 2004 and announced that he had cancer. I believe that some may have voted for him because he was sick. He fell on the Joe Biden sword, the sympathy vote. Well, it’s dangerous to buy into all this, poor me, feel sorry for me crap when our Nation is in this current spending and spending a lot, liberal mode. Spector has already shown where his feeling lie, he proves it often that his vote is for sale and weighs both parties offers to see who’s willing to offer more. Buyer beware.

People need to stop voting for these representatives because they know their names, know what they’re for and against. But, as with Spector and the other RINO, their votes are for sale and when given the chance to do the right thing, they don’t and side with the liberals in Congress. When they get ready to run for Office again, they suddenly return to being a moderate or conservative, when their votes in Congress reflect the truth.

The problem with ALL politicians!
"Singer thinks Specter’s problem is not looking at card-check on its merits but evaluating it through a political lens, to gauge its impact on his campaign and “trying to be all things to all people.”

This isn't just a Specter problem, this is a problem with ALL politicians. They look at everything through the political lens. No matter how idealistic they once were, once they get to Washington it's all about enriching themselves and getting reelected.

This is the reason we will never have real change in Washington. Everyone thinks we need to throw all of the bums out - except for the bum THEY elected.

spector
continually proves he is more dimocrat than repub. But it seems come re election time he decides to lie to the repub voters that he is their senator and that those votes he gavce to dim issues are just a mirage.

The old story is spector telling the voters, who you gonna believe, me or your lying eyes.

But spector already betrayed the country with his support of porkzilla and now his promised support for the unions which represent an even smaller minority of voters than the dims favorite victim group, the blacks.

But unlike the blacks and the dims, the unions gave the dims $450 million in the last election cycle and that money buys lots of dim loyalty, including the pretend president, flap ears their phony messiah and savior.

Seems like spector will suck up to the unions to try and keep himself in office where he hopes to return to the senate and continue his betrayal of the repubs who voted for him,

The Brownshirts are coming!
Click my name and go to my blog and read about Obama's new brownshirt force.

The time to take action against the founding of this force is now, people.

Make sure to let your elected officials know you're against this new development on Obama's part.

Pistol, Pistol, Pistol... How many times

do I have to tell you... Specter doesn't even rate "CINO" or "RINO."

He's a liberal dumbo who is sitting on the wrong side of the aisle!

We've seen "CINOs" and "RINOs"... and Spector isn't one! :-)

PA is a blue state
because Rendell and Democ-rat legislators officially made PENNSYLVANIA THE VOTER FRAUD STATE.

Because of his votes, Specter should resign from office and stop all medical treatment per the Porkulus Bill, because he is old, useless, and a liberal traitor.

PA Republican Party in PA, do not let specter run as a Republican. Do not give him any money or other support. Make him run as a Democ-rat.

Send a message
It is most important, IMHO, to get the CINOs out of DC, and this must be done in the primaries. If turncoats like Specter don't win their primaries, the message will get through to those elected as conservatives who do the bait and switch. Better to have a clear left winger like Dumbo in there messing things up, than McCain doing the same. At least Dumbo is flying an accurate flag. Bush and cohorts were lose/lose. It is better to have identifiable libs in there than Republicans voting lib. I am sick of hearing how Bush and his "conservative" congress messed thngs up.

Conservative Republicans
Obama voters have reduced your numbers to the point that the liberals don’t even need RINO votes to pass everything they want, and that’s bad. It’s at the point where Nancy Ex-pelosi-ve is eliminating rules that allow you to have any effect. We need to get CONSERVATIVES back in the majority in Congress

WHAT ALL OF YOU MUST DO FROM NOW ON IS VOTE UNANIMOUSLY AGAINST EVERY BILL AND TAX THAT LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT VOTE FOR ANYTHING LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT GO ALONG TO GET ALONG WITH THE LIBERALS!!! DO NOT GO TO THEIR PARTIES!!! TOTALLY VOCALLY OPPOSE THE LIBERALS IN EVERY WAY, ESPECIALLY ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY!!! THE LIBERALS ARE TRYING TO STICK YOU WITH PART OF THE BLAME FOR ALL THEIR FUTURE FAILURES; DON’T LET THEM DO IT!!! DO NOT CLAP WHEN OBAMA SAYS ANYTHING!!! JOINING LIBERALS IN ANYTHING IS SELLING OUT AMERICA!!! THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!! THEY ARE YOUR AND AMERICA’S WORST ENEMIES, AND WILL DO ANYTHING THEY CAN TO DESTROY BOTH!!! GET ALL THE RINO’S AND BLUEBLOOD COUNTRYCLUB ELITES OUT OF THE GOP!!!

You cannot stop their bills or even slow them down beyond calling for roll call votes for them. Make everything they pass totally theirs. What you will be doing is getting on record as opposing all the destructive liberal bills. They are trying to get you on the hook with them, so you can’t blame them fully. Why should money we give you to elect conservatives go to RINO”S like Specter, and McCain who spend all their time voting with the Democ-rats.

When all these liberal actions make things much worse, as they will, you can point at the record and show the people that none of you had anything to do with them, and that you had no control over their passage, that all this destruction was caused by liberals.

This column
puts the cart before the horse.

I suggest Conservatives get act active with the party to reign in the RINO's and then get active supporting the candidates against Specter in the primaries.

So what, John!
Specter will revert to the tough DA when he's grandstanding, but he didn't block any of those pinkos, did he? And his undermining of strict constitutional judges during his stint as Judiciary Chairman still leaves a bad taste in my pie hole.

PA is a beautiful place, full of great people who, unfortunately have been made into sheeple by unions. Unions didn't keep them from becoming the center of the "Rust Belt," and at the same time convinced them it was the fault of someone else, mostly weepublicans.

Every time Pennsylvanians re-elect Murtha or Specter, I have to shake my head. What the heck are they thinking - oh wait, they believe they can only survive with more pork from Washington. The whole state has been turned into a public housing project.

Why wouldn't dhimmicrats vote for Specter? He's one of them.

We are lucky to have conservative observers to "worst-case" our grassroots election endeavors. Now, what about Maine, where we ought to be giving the heave-ho to those Rino Bobbsey twins, Collins and Snowe?

Snowe & Collins
Don't forget the other 2 traitors! Work to unseat all 3 of these RINOs!

Time for Specter to go.
I am so sorry that Santorum backed him and now Rick is gone. I hope Toomey runs again against Arlen and Rick runs for governor. Specter is a total , total sellout.

TERM LIMITS !!!
Sphincter is the PERRFECT EXAMPLE of why this Republic is CRYING OUT for TERM LIMITS....along with his fellow %&**&% traitors (Snowe and Collins)....when are the American sheep gonna get off the couch and take our country back....or is it too late?
Your children are gonna curse you for your inaction!

Disunity
Specter is a RINO, and he understands completely that conservative infighting during the primary will benefit Specter the most.

Hey PA Republicans: you need to unite behind one candidate NOW and not let Specter and the DNC work to divide and conquer.

Specter Take Him down
I am originally from PA and remember all the lies this Jackass wanna be has told over the years. Just the bit in the article tells all. The fact the union leaders want their members to short term convert for the primary to help him stay say's it all. Must have a very heavy wallet taking money from those members union dues the same one's by the way getting laid off because of the economy. I say to you Arlen 1776 and remember what happened to traitors and Tory's. Pennsylvania has a proud heritage in the founding of our country. Watch when the revolution start's.

Eventually Specter will die
And that's probably the only way we ever get rid of him.

Jeanne
Hi Jeanne. Please don't condemn me for wishing ill on Specter and Creekboy. My cousins from Waco and Dallas will come over and put Obama 2012 stickers on your car if they hear you saying bad things about me.

Tim
you may live in Pa. but you aren't good at understanding it's politics.
Arlen would kick both Toomeys and Sanitoriums butts. Have you checked out my new house at the end of Longcourse Lane near your YMCA?

Specter
I would encourage every true conservative to do four things;

1. get as much information on-Pat Toomey, Peg Luksik and Larry Murphy. Find out where they stand on the issues. Find out if they are truly conservative.
2. send money to the campaign of the one that is the strongest conservative.
3. e-mail Specter and let him know you are sending money to those running against him and that you will be e-mailing anyone you know in PA to do the same as well as encouraging them to vote against him and for one of the three previously mentioned.
4. e-mail friends, relatives, bloggers and anyone else in PA to tell them to work against Specter in anyway they can.

In addition, do the same for Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Let them know that "we the people" will no longer put up with them and we will vote them out of office.

Finally Terry may be right, it may be "way too early for a column like this." We need to be careful about getting discouraged...it would seem that, intentionally or not, Zito is attempting to do what the Great Oz and his sycophants tried before the election even came, i.e. telling the conservatives to "give up".

Terry From RINO Oppressed Maine !

For You " The Northern Oppressed " in Maine,it may be TOO LATE !

Your Twin Ugly Old Girl Coon Cats are a Testimonial To RINOISM !

You want RINO Specter ?

You can have Him.

Now,Up The Rebellion !

We Rally on TAX DAY !

All across Our Nation on April 15th,Tax Day Tea Parties Comin' At Ya !

my 2 cents
It's way too early for a column like this.

Ceisler
In the article, Ceisler said: “For the GOP to put what would be a relatively safe seat in jeopardy is beyond me.”

...Maybe because Specter supports the party on 0% of the issues! He's not a social conservative. He's not a fiscal conservative. He's not a neoconservative. He's not a libertarian. He has nothing in common with the Republican party whatsoever.

What we need is one candidate, a Conservative, to run against Specter. Toomey, Luksik, and Murphy constitute too many challengers going after too small a base of opposition to Specter.

Based on what I've read of candidate policy positions, my first choice would be Toomey. I admire Luksik and Murphy both for their pro-life activism (Luksik has the gender card bonus and Murphy has the racial minority bonus), but Toomey also has a solid pro-life voting record, and seems to have a more deeply established base of support in the state.

We need one champion. And we need to freeze out non-Republicans from our primaries.

PS
It's very UNCHRISTIAN to wish ill on anyone because of this..shame on those that do..

Specter is a DISGRACE
He isn't a conservative by a long shot in his approval of the big bogus unstimulus bill..he is also guilty of the AIG debaucle by voting for it...Let's hope a real conservative wins elections there next time..that is the only way RHINO's will learn their lesson!

And Creekboy Too
Oh, by the way Lord, take out Creekboy too. I don't want Specter to be alone. Creekboy is a progressive, thus he serves no purpose on this earth. He merely casts a shadow and breath's air that better people need.

Thank you Lord,

Amen

There NO "blue states"!!
There are only a few heavily populated (with social welfare-dependent and indolent liberal losers) which artificially turn states blue. Look at Kentucky. 99% of the lib-tards are concentrated in Lexington and Louisville. Take out those blocks and the state GLOWS red. Take out NY City, Westchester and Nassau Counties and NY is crimson.

Arlen Sphincter has been targeted and his days are numbered. He fast-talked the governor and Dubya into supporting him last time PROMISING not to be a RINO and lied through his, well, sphincter. That's one reason we have that POS Rendell in PA.

Don't count Philly with Mayor Michael Nutter, an appropriate name if ever. Take out the block of votes from South Philly and the state goes red. We have turned into the United COUNTIES of America and the 17th Amendment is part of the problem.

The House was meant to represent the average guy but the Senate was meant to represent the various state houses. THAT'S why they were chosen by the Governors or the State Houses.

calling for the death of a sitting senator of the United States.

She is a grand ole party.

JD's Handsome Son
LOL - I can't say I don't share your sentiments. But the odds are against it.

While I know full well that Specter would vote to deprive us of our right and ability to provide for and maintenance our own health care, he himself will obtain the best health care the free market developed and government financing can provide - free of charge.

He probably gets thoroughly cancer screened each week.

We might fantasize about a conservative working on him and 'accidentally' shooting an air bubble into his carotid artery, but, as we know, only socialists, communists and fascists do that sort of thing - and none of those types would have any incentive to do so in Specter's case.

Specter SELL OUT by Jeff Schrembs
Specter is NOT a Conservative and has NOT supported the Republician Party...for many years now.
I don't know WHY the Republician Committee allows these SELL OUTS to "run" under the cover of Republician...election after election.
I use the ANALOGY of this pertaining to Specter and all the other REPUBLICIANS IN NAME ONLY (RINO's) and that is this:
Let's say that you have a 7-11 big gulp cup and you fill 1/2 of it with your FAVORITE Frosty "beverage". Then I come up and fill your cup the rest of the way up with COW MANURE. Are you going to drink it? NO!
That is EXACTLY what these RINO's have done. They are 1/2 Republican, in name only, but the other 1/2 is LIBERAL. Thus it is a MUTT subject to "biting the hands that feed it".
Specter, like 99.9% of all Politicians, FORGETS that they took an Oath to the CONSTITUTION for ALL American Citizens (yes I said CITIZENS and NOT ILLEGAL ALIENS). They ONLY focus on what's best for them and for THEIR families. The revolving door of "pork" they give to their powerful connections who in turn "magically" donate money back to them. If someone came up to you and said HERE is a MILLION dollars in cash and all you have to do is donate $50,000.00 to my campaign AND another few thousand to my parties campaign...would you do it? Well, that is EXACTLY what these CORRUPT LIFETIME POLITICAL SELL OUTS do...24/7.
When caught they say there are only "helping their constituents"...yeah RIGHT!
Specter...GOOD RIDDANCE to you and all of your THREATS about "leaving the Republican Party". The fact is that you LEFT IT years ago but now you want to finalize it...in name only. How appropriate.
Jeffrey Schrembs, American Citizen

Questionable analysis
Once again, I think Zito's FOS. Sure, more republicans are 'exploring' a PA senate candidacy against Specter. Why? Because they smell weakness and blood.

But there is only one who has a name so far: Toomey. He came a hair away from disposing of the lizard-faced Specter in 2004. Now that Specter's a republican outcast, he is more vulnerable.

Zito discounts Bush and Santorum's help in getting Specter through the 2004 GOP primary - dumb. Their appearances on his behalf made the difference. Bush diverted critical marginal republican votes toward Specter by pleading that he needed his vote for securing Supreme Court Justices. In fact, he provided little help - and actually began stabbing Bush in the back immediately after winning the primary.

And don't forget Toomey's been running the Club for Growth - he should be a well financed match for Specter.

Toomey's likable and well spoken. Specter looks - and talks - like he should be in a grave. He may even make it there before the election. That's no small thing in politics.

As to the general election, momentum should see Toomey through as the out of power party away makes gains in the off year elections. Toomey could be a major rising republican star from PA.

Congressional Democrats & the 3 Stooges

"Congress is outraged. Really, really outraged. Unbelievably, incredibly outraged. And there are certainly grounds for anger...

...shocked to find AIG doing what it was allowed to do."

"This is an outrage! We'll pass a new tax to get the taxpayers' money back if we have to! I want the names of all those executives who received bonuses to be released to the American public! This is an outrage being perpetrated upon the American public!!"

Conservative Reporter:
"But Mr. and Ms. Congressperson the provision for the bonuses to be paid out is in the President's "Stealfromus" bill. A bill which you signed into law."

Congressional Democrats (and the 3 Stooges):
"Why...ah...er...ah...This is an outrage against the American people!! We will seize these bonuses to return to the American..." taxpayers. This is outrageous..."

Conservative Reporter:
"But Mr/Ms Democrat Congressperson? Didn't you sign the President's Stealfromus bill?"

Congressional Democrats (and the 3 Stooges):
"Yes...but..ah..er...This is an outrage!!...If I'd known this was going to happen, I never would have signed it!!"

Conservative Reporter:
"Well how did you not know it was in the bill?"

Congressional Democrats (and the 3 Stooges):
"Why...er...ah...I...er...I never read it..."

I don't care how you do it...
Really, Pennsylvanians, I don't care how you do it, but you need to get that mother, Specter, out of office. I would rather see an actual registered Democrat win the seat than have an idiot like Specter continue to tarnish the Republican label!

Give Toomey the shot. It's about time we got serious about RINO hunting and purge the GOP, so it can rise up as CONSERVATIVE again!

Sorry ...

In a pro-labor, pro-union state, govened by liberals in the population centers, and regardless of the conservatism of the majority of the population, Spector wins the primary and general when he turncoats on Card Check. This law is a South Philly Union Thug's dream...legalized intimidation!

Write off Pa as long as Spector's there. The only thing the GOP can do is excommunicate him and his girlfriends, Snowe and Collins. Look, the vote Demo-Lib anyway ... why saddle the party with that bagage?

Ranger29
Interesting you mentioned Ricky. The writer, Salina Zito, worked for him.
Small wingnut world.

Toomey Can Take Down RINO Specter !

Arlen Specter won that Republican Primary Dog Fight against A Self-Term Limiting Former Congressman and President of The Club For Growth , Pat Toomey by only 17,000 votes out of over a Million Cast.

Specter only won by 1.7 Percent ,after The Bush White House and Ricky Santorum propped Specter up .

A recent Susquehanna Poll has 66 Percent of Registered Republicans want someone else and only 26 Percent saying Specter deserves another term.

Bush Is Gone !

Santorum Is Gone !

Specter Is Toast !

Real Conservative Pat Toomey Can Clean Specter's Clock.

Let Democrat Josh Shapiro run. He's one more Philadelphia Collar County Candidate, with no influence in Pennsylvania's rural counties.

Toomey hails from The Lehigh Valley.

With some truth,Pennsylvania is Philadelphia and Pittsburgh with Alabama in between and We're Damned Proud "Gun and Bible Clutchers ".

Specter and Shapiro Ain't Us !

Up The Rebellion !

We Rally across Our Nation on Tax Day ,April 15Th !

Pa's newsmedia is very Liberal..

Actually most Pennsylvanians are right of center. However the liberal media refuses to print anything negative about any candidate that is left of center so Specter has enjoyed years of good media coverage.

At the same time, the Liberal media will report the slightest blemish of any conservative candidate and keep on the story until they can dig up something else negative.

The result is indepedants and people who recently moved into the state vote for whoever the media gives the most favorable coverage.
