Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

How does President Obama live up to the hype/hope that so embodied him as a candidate?

By keeping the promise of his image in line with the delivery of his actions – and never letting the two pull apart.

Obama is an effective brand built on the image of change. Implemented by a team of brilliant strategists, the brand has gone from the control of campaigning to the chaos of governing.

“The challenge for Barack Obama is that he won this remarkable campaign of being all things to all people,” said Republican strategist Alex Castellanos. "You can’t be that when you govern."

Unfortunately for Obama, a little brand-tampering has occurred in the past two weeks: the tax challenges of Treasury Secretary Tim Geitner; the domestic-help tax issue of first-ever “performance czar” Nancy Killefer; the pay-to-play legal issues of Commerce nominee Bill Richardson; and the car-and-driver tax issues of Health and Human Services nominee Tom Daschle. Three of those four did not survive.

And don’t forget the Obama White House’s all-lobbyists-are-bad-except-my-lobbyists exemptions.

None of this lives up to the whole “Change you can believe in” branding – but neither does it become a Tylenol-tampering moment, when outside influences tarnish the brand, or a “let's re-invent Coke with New Coke” internal-decision disaster.

Obama the Brand was elected on a great wave of hope, that things somehow could be different. What he needs to do is to demonstrate that somehow things will be different.

Every time a Geitner or Daschle moment occurs, it reminds people of the old Washington – not what they voted and hoped for.

The team that protects the brand is on constant guard to deflect outside damage and internal gimmicks that might erode it. That includes what any good marketing team outside of politics does to keep a brand name appealing: focus groups and market research – a tactic that Obama's chief political adviser, David Axelrod, freely admits using.

Axelrod employed focus-group research to poll public attitudes about the economy, Obama’s biggest challenge heading into the White House. Those results are being used for message-framing and language, as the president and Congress talk stimulus proposals.

When the Daschle disaster hit, Obama wisely engaged in a multi-network “I am sorry, I screwed up” tour. That reinforced his "things are different now in Washington" image.

Anything that comes across as politics-as-usual is bad for his brand; all things outside of that, such as bipartisan outreach (whether or not it works) are good.

In many ways, Obama’s different-Washington line in the sand has boxed-in his administration.

All of the adults in the room know that many of the really smart, experienced hands in Washington have been in government before or hang around government – a path that leads directly to K Street, a.k.a. “Lobbyist Row.”

Proselytizing during a campaign about not using lobbyists may look great on newspaper editorial pages. Yet branding lobbying as horse dung leaves you open to eventually stepping in it.

“When it comes to lobbyists, politicians need to stop acting holier than thou,” said Bert Rockman, Purdue University political science professor. “Yes, it plays well with public opinion, but if the bar is set high enough, no one who knows anything will be in a position to do anything.”

The consequence is that we will have a government of incompetents and incompetence.

Our system depends on money. Either we change that system so that it’s less money-dependent, or we accept that people leaving office will work directly or indirectly for the numerous interests that have a stake in what government does.

“Look, everyone knows the Obama brand is ‘change,’ but it does not take much to prove it is not,” warns GOP strategist Castellanos. “… It is something much more fluid and flexible.”

Rockman puts it a different way: Obama is definitely on message, “but this is a message he may live to regret.”

Brand-bad after taste
Seems like a nice guy, good family, but does not know the first thing about being an executive. He also left the bill in the hands of 2 morons, Pelosi and Reid, and he is proving himself as a socialist. He got a bit angry at us that we disagreed the other night for not agreeing to pay for such things as condoms to prevent STD's in Florida waterparks.
Bad after taste with this brand. How much longer is his term?

What We Must Do
The peoples' perception of things is not the result of what they can actually see with their own eyes. Conclusions based on fact is not allowed them.

Their perceptions will be crafted and molded for them. There is absolutely no need for them to waste their limited mental energies making judgements on their own. That is something better left to those entrusted with managing our lives.

Katie and Matt, Oprah, and the others are better at making these judgments and we must concur with them. To do otherwise is diversionary and distracting. We must pull together, support His five year plan, and strive for our Great Leap Forward.

The party will notify us of His success fixing our economy. Our job is to await the results as they are passed on by those better equipped to analyze them and not get hoodwinked by reactionary propagandists who are trying to undermine His valiant efforts at making our lives better.

Reality Has To Set In
It's a little like running on a campaign of the earth being the center of the solar system. It may get you elected but it doesn't fit with how things really work. All these politicians have tied themselves to the concepts of Keynesian economics. It got them elected but now the fact that Keynes was wrong will intrude. They will keep pretending things are going as planned but where we are headed is a bad, bad place.

Clinton Redux
I truly believe that when, and if, we get through four years of Obama magic we'll look back with nostalgia at the Clinton years. Personally Clinton is a womanizing, narcissistic freak but in politics he was a pragmatist and Dick Morris saved his arse with instant polling guidelines.

It's apparent, however, that Obama is an ideologue pushing policies and programs that are anathema to most Americans and that will ultimately reduce every one's living standard.

He's a Che Guevara in a nice suit and without the beret.

Jerseyvet
There's a poster for you. Put Obama's mug on that poster of Che. It will sell like hot cakes.

America's version of Our Dear Leader...
Just drive around any major city anywhere in the U.S. and count the big billboards with our Dear Leader's face hoisted high and proudly.
Never in the history of our republic has a sitting President engaged in this type of public hero worship. It is dangerous behavior and should always be viewed as unacceptable.

The names have changed but the ideas are as old as Marx, Lenin, Mussolini, Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Roosevelt, Dewey, Che, Castro and all who believed in the generally theory of governing through Socialism.

All the proof you need: "Planned Chaos" by Ludwig Von Mises

Let's find the lady
who told cameras that Obama would pay her mortgage and fill her gas tank. Maybe she can expess how much she appreciates a $900B appropriation that will do neither.

THE RETURN OF PAPER TIGER AMERICA
America is seriously disconnected from reality with a leader who minimizes the danger we are in and widens the gap by the day. As weakness begets war its reality will return with a terrible vengeance with turmoil in the Middle East or new attacks on our shore. The 60s born Obama is the right man at this time to lead our war weary nation into peril. People and leader are suited to each other for both are blind and fast asleep, ignorant of the enemy and the reason for this war. 9/11 is prelude and the years preceding that attack are mindlessly being restored with an administration staffed with Clinton insiders and Hillary at State, a woman with the veneer of strength masking a soft liberal core. It’s the 1990s all over again with Bill and Hillary playing the role of mentors-in-chief schooling Obama in the soft-on-terror politics of the past, when America was seen as a "paper tiger" for treating combatants as felons and weakly striking back. Yes, leader and people are fast asleep lulled into lethargy by Bush's success in keeping us safe and the absence of an alarming threat. But the menacing clouds are gathering strength ready to explode and we'll be shocked out of sleep by the scourge of Moslem terror at home or abroad before long.

He promised the impossible
And now it's impossible to keep the promise.

ropati
Exactly. And even worse, having promised the impossible, he is takikng the least likely methods of achieving his promises. Is he uniting the country? No, judging from what the trolls post here. Is he producing change? Not from his re-tread cabinet and appointees. Is he creating hope. Hardly. He promises years to reach recovery, even after proposing as necessary the most drastic and dangerous economic actions ever taken by the US government. Transparent government? We can't even see his thesis to get some idea of his economic principles and philosophy. Fiscal responsibility??? BBWAHAhahahahahahahahah

Still campaigning
Obama is heading to Indiana and Florida in an attempt to sell Three RINOs his grab bag of financial tricks purported to cure everything from lost jobs to foreclosed mortgages. Since campaigning as every victims hero is his thing, it just might work. Hide and watch! and I do mean hide.

reality vs the meesiah
I wonder when the reality of being president for all the country will supplant his desire to only cater to the left.

Seems he is intent on spending trillions because when he was winning the nobel prize for economics this strategy worked.

But other than his handlers who is the mee siah listening to. We know he can read the talking points they place on his teleprompter but it seems he is now showing us his angry side for failing to understand he knows what is best for all.

Oh wait, I forgot, he won and it will be done his way. Praise the lord mee siah and anointed savior of the universe

Obama owes his election to the
excellence of the thugs he broght in to do the community organizing. Now he is governing "by direction" of George Soros and Move-on.org. Well, we are moving on, right into a new depression. Unlike a lot of folks I've been thru one, don't need another but can survive it. Now is the time to take charge of our party, get rid of the Spector, Collins and other RINO's and gear up for 2010/2012

Same rythme, different tune.....
yes we can, hope, change you can believe in......blah blah blah.....when the GREATEST depression begins, now that will be change we can believe in......lol......

what a 3-ring circus.......Barnum would be proud...

"but does not know the first thing about being an executive" As I've posted here several times, Obama reminds me of a newly-minted 2nd LT. who even tho a Grad of *Hudson High*, *the Springs*, etc. is absolutely clueless as to how the world really works! That's why he had no re-course but to go along with whatever Pelosi/Reid came up with., A LOT of folk got exactly what they wanted,,Gonna be a LONG time for those suckers TOO!! CHEERS

P-BO's Approval Rating
Any one interested in getting up a betting pool on when the O's approval drops below 50% I'm guessing before May day - no pun intended

No He Can't!
Obama set such high expectations in his "campaign rhetoric" only a true Messiah could achieve them. Obama knows he can't. He asked before January 20 that his "campaign rhetoric" and later "childish things" be set aside, and for bipartisan support. He has failed in all of those things he has asked of all of us.
I have been challenging his most ardent supporters - Lib Dem Obamaniacs - to name one thing and be prepared to defend it that Obama has done right on or since January 20. Few have tried; all have failed, as he has failed daily for 19 days now, even admitting on only two things, "I screwed up."

The President who 'Won'
In the first few weeks of his 'leadership', President Obama has managed to:
1. 'Forgive' and drop charges against terrorists who killed American citizens, thereby losing support of any American who was related to an individual killed in any terrorsit attack anywhere - anytime.
2. 'Hire' individuals for his Cabinet that are corrupt, lobbyists, and without integrity.
3. 'Move' the census of the United States to the Whitehouse, which will ensure all Americans that the count will be WRONG.
4. 'Back' a spending bill that is absurd. He knows it and Congress and the Senate know it, but they'll vote the 'party' - even knowing they will have a hand in destroying this nation.
5. President Obama can take FULL responsibility for dissassembling the United States and creating the States of Obama.
6. Promising tens of millions of 'illegal aliens' automatic 'amnesty', then asking Americans who have already lost their jobs and their homes, to pay for these 'illegals' to have free health care, meals, schooling, etc.
7. Giving ACORN millions of dollars...so that they can get busy finding the names of dead people to vote for President Obama in the NEXT election.
7. Is considering the 'Fairness Doctrine'.
The Americans have lost all faith in Government, and are beginning to realize that President Obama and his wealthy friends are attempting to turn the United States into a Socialist country.
When the still 'United States' begin to cecede from 'Socialist Obamaland' the President will finally realize that he has to depend on his wealthy friends to pay for the 'illegal aliens', who have NO intention of learning the language, paying taxes, fighting for Obamaland OR voting for him. His next campaign could very well be with a non-English speaking individual. (He can't ask for proof of citizenship...he already set that precedent).

Knowlwdge = ?
With all the power of the Internet ,that BHO with all his and his cohorts seem to forget, there is an underlying tone. This tone is that the Internet is diverse and independent, even when foreign influences are involved. In other words he just doesn't yet have it. His cohorts are just superficial Internet junkies trying to circumvent basic Democratic free will by offering an opiate of discontent to shadily sway their opinion. This going to be temporary in the short run. As evident by his recent speech to followers and showing puerile juvenile rhetoric "stimulus IS spending, thats the point" and confessing "I screwed up" which marks him a child saying sorry. Even saying sorry is noble at first blush, that is not the mark of seasoned politician. Methinks he needs more practice as a junior senator plus a few more terms.

Outrage
Has anyone noticed that Obama is outraged that people are questioning him. Is this a surprise. After all no one questioned him while he was running for office. He was marketed by our MSM and like all good marketing campaigns we heard what a great product he was. Unfortunately, just like all that junk you bought that is sitting in your closet Obama is the product of the great marketing. We bought him and then found out he was not going to do anything that was promised. Unlike the junk we just throw in the back of the closet cause it didn't work we are stuck with this guy and he has the opportunity to ruin our country. Perhaps next time we will spend more time questioning and less time listening to the marketing hype. Lets hope we survive and have another chance in four years to do it right.

The Obama brand
Remember the Yugo brand? Cute advertising, a car everyman can drive. Then something happened. A few Joe Wurzelbachers did buy the Yugo, and pretty soon, without any news media or ad buys bashing the Yugo, word got around it was a POS.

Then folks who'd been considering buying the Yugo went elsewhere.

Politics is different for core ideologues who will defend their man to their last breath, ignoring all evidence. They'll happily drive the Yugo. They'll extol its many virtues. "The rear window defroster is awesome, dude. It works so well it even keeps your hands warm while you're pushing."

They'll forgive that politician right to the grave.

We're not after them. We're after Joe or Jane, who really wants to do his/her job, advance there or elsewhere, take care of the family, pay down the house and have enough left over to have a hobby or two--neither of which involves getting hepped up watching Fox News or MSNBC. Joe cares about politics when it collides with his life, but he'd rather see just about any commercial than a political one.

He still feels pretty good about Obama because he's not really paying attention.

The news media will try to keep it that way.

How do we reach him?

We just had a Yugo forced on us and we're unhappy about it. Joe's still not thinking about it, but when he finds out what a POS this president is, he's likely to look elsewhere for his next one.

I think it's word of mouth on this one. Grumble like your grandpa whenever you get a chance. Make sure your unhappiness with this POS is known.

Word gets around.

9-11
Ur Yugo analogy beats My 2nd Lt hands down!! Well said.. Back in the Yugo days, I actually came across a Dealer in Atlanta that had a deal: Buy a particular Model of Cadillac and get a Yugo Free!!
Looks like the Obama *buyers* got the same deal..Only this time the name olate says *Mrs O*
Have a good day!!
