Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

There is not much glory to being the political party out of power, but that does not mean it is without opportunities.

In fact, there is a little more room to act riskily when you aren't running the joint.

The challenge for Washington's remaining Republicans is to think of constructive, not obstructive, ways to help fashion a better plan on every issue facing the country.

One way, University of St. Louis professor Joel Goldstein says, is for GOP congressmen to think of ways to use the stimulus package to strengthen the role of state governments. "Or they might envision ways to make certain that the proposed spending package is not permanent," he adds.

Another approach he suggests is to address some of Wall Street's flagrant abuses that contributed to our economic crisis.

A bold approach by a minority party certainly worked in 1990, when a group of freshman House Republicans - the self-described "Gang of Seven" - began taking on House banking issues and ethics reform.

GOP boldness did not defeat President Obama's stimulus package, passed last week without a single House Republican vote. But it did send a message from the minority party: "We are not going to lie down."

Some observers say the original "Gang of Seven" contributed to 1994's GOP House takeover, and the gang deserves credit for raising topics, such as corruption and waste, that took hold in 1992 and 1994.

"They weren't the critical factor in the rise of the GOP, though," says University of Virginia political scientist Larry Sabato. "Bill Clinton was."

So, can a new "Gang of Seven" arise? And if so, what can it do?

Taking on the ethics issues of the very powerful House Ways and Means chairman Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y., might be a good start. Rangel admitted last fall that he failed to pay thousands of dollars in real-estate taxes for rental income he earned on property he owns in the Dominican Republic.

Seems like low-hanging ethically-challenged fruit to pick off.

Today's political context is different, however. The 1990 "Gang of Seven" were newly elected congressmen; they capitalized on their ability to associate congressional abuses with Democrats who had controlled the House for nearly 40 years.

"The Democrats have only just returned to power in the House in 2007 after 12 years of Republican control," Goldstein says, adding that the GOP years didn't exactly leave a good taste in Americans' mouths.

As House Republicans look to be relevant in the Obama era, a new group of leaders must emerge to challenge the way things are done under one-party rule. They must force the changes that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised to deliver; they must focus on process, on mastering House operating rules.

They should pick fights with Speaker Pelosi, not President Obama.

An emerging leader for the gang is Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va., probably the most trusted member of the GOP leadership and the one who looks out for GOP House members.

Some conservative "young guns" in the House who could work with Cantor on a "Gang of Seven, 2.0":

* Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). Former congressional staffer for his predecessor, Rep. Bill Thomas, and former minority leader in California's state legislature. Aggressive, equipped with a non-stop motor, he's established himself as a leader in the House.

* Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). Smartest guy in the room on policy; cares about conservatism both as an intellectual and a political movement.

* Mike Pence (R-Ind.). Gifted communicator with a Reaganesque quality and a strong following in the evangelical and conservative communities. He seems ready to take on the status quo every day.

* Shelly Moore Capito (R-W.Va.). An all-around talent - smart, very capable - she's an incredibly hard worker who's held a tough district through some difficult elections.

* Duncan Hunter - The Son (R-Calif.). A veteran who served two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan, he is poised to take up his father's mantle as an expert on national security issues.

* Tom Rooney (R-Fla.). Scion of the Pittsburgh Steelers family; a veteran who taught at West Point, and a young up-and-comer on national security.

These talented legislators blend newsness and experience, and they are the future of what the Republican Party should look like.

It's going to be a while before Republicans find themselves in the Capitol's majority suites again.

Yet if they begin with the small battles - not just exposing corruption but using House rules to make the minority voice heard; standing firm on not misspending the stimulus package and on cutting taxes to stimulate growth - they can recreate a healthy GOP brand.

Pelosi should hang her head around Obama
Her wrong headed thinking, "A chance to kick some GOP butt" made Obama look a bit shabby. Obama's trying to overcome with cocktails and communication but he should just call Nancy P and say, "Get a new broom to fly"

PresidentialBalls.com

good news
It's very reassuring to hear of these up and coming Republican leaders. And with Michael Steele in as Chairman, there's even more reason to feel optimistic about the future!

Cut Out The Pork Republicans
If the Republicans don't take a stand and vote out the pork in the stimulus bill that gives billions to Planned Parenthood, Gay Rights, and corrupt ACORN who is supposedly under investigation but hardly any news reported on it which is ridiculous, and so forth....then the Republican party will lose more members who will feel sold out and bow out before 2012. It's extremely important that the Republicans do the right thing and cut out the pork. The socialist programs mentioned above don't create jobs nor stimulate the economy. There must be accountability, transparency, and oversight before they approve the stimulus debt which future generations will inherit without any benefits as they're financial future is sunk into a deep dark hole with no way to even pay back the billions of dollars in interest every year which will only go on until forever.

Two years
is what 'bama has, not even four, to show his mettle. The demoncrats are so drunk with power they care not one iota that their debauchery is in full view of the world. They can't believe 'bama's bipartisan talk is more than a front, a trick.

I can see Harry and Nancy saying to him Mr prez, are you kidding us? Do you really want to pay attention to those losers?

If he can't check them, all the republicans need do is shake their heads and point their finger, they'll be the majority in 2010 and 'bama is done.

Rose
The house republicans, ALL of them, voted against the stimulus porkfest.
What planet do you live on?

Limerick for My Man Jones
A truculent speaker, ms Nancy
Is making Obama feel antsy
From the Democrat womb
and announced from her broom
"Kicking GOP butt," is my fancy.

Bandu
I guess i read what Rose read. Not a single GOP vote for the stimulus package. Did you not read Zito, or do you believe she is lying?

If we are fortunate
Pelosi will continue her rediculous notion she is a leader. The more she talks the more it is obvious she smoked too much pot in her young days and needs a brain transplant in the worse sort of way. To advocate birth control and abortion as a way of controlling the budget (as she did last week) is beyond the pale. And so, let her prattle on and meanwhile Republicans should respectfully and publically denounce every piece of rancid pork that comes up in each and every bill. Let the democrats roll over them and approve the garbage, the American people are not as stupid as she thinks.

PELOSI HAS AN IDEA?
When Dancey Nancy Pelosi spoke last week of the contraceptive idea to curb unwanted babies as a solution to the current economic problems, could have some merit. If all the male Democrats would be sterilized (Dems spend money) then in the future the national debt would be reduced, as well as a measure of common sense in lawmaking. I don't like the term un-wanted, but farmers use selective breeding to get cows to produce more milk, grow turkeys with big breasts, pigs with less fat and so on. Wondering if a sensible Democrat could actually be produced in the laboratory? This could work. Lots of Democrats follow Darwinism, and buy evolution lock stock and barrel. There then is the opening for experiments to begin. Telling them it's for there own good to evolve into SUPER DEMOCRATS....sometimes my mind runs off it's tracks!

Why is it?
"The challenge for Washington's remaining Republicans is to think of constructive, not obstructive, ways to help fashion a better plan on every issue facing the country."

Why does government have to do anything? Replubocrats have done this for ages and got us where we are today. Negotiating American freedoms to non-existence.

The problem with the Republican Party is they want to join hands in offering welfare, corporate mainly, but now wanting to include domestic. Cut taxes, income, but keep spending.

So much for common sense and the conservative base. Which is leaving faster then the stock market drops these days.

NAZI PELOUSY...aka dipstick..
Has got the elected socialists ballz in a nutcracker and is squeezing hard...

It's pathetic that the porkulus bill even got this far and we have to scream about it!

Slam the reps from your district and make them fear they're not getting re-elected because of it..phone calls, faxes, emails etc..that's all they care about anyway is getting reelected so they can take more of our money to their bank..

If you have a blue dog representative make him squirm...Richard Burr's office is sending me 2-3 letters a week because I bombard him...what are you doing?

They work for us and we need to hold the accountable till we can get these newcomers on board..they sound like they have promise as long as they don't get power hungry like the rest of the idiots in DC

Your Column
Great Advice I think this is what our country and party need.

lopsided system
It seems that the people elected to represent the people forgot that they are suppose to be looking out for the interest of those who elected them. Both parties have forgotten this. Maybe it is time for term limits and no pensions for service.Do you think that some one like Teddy the Swimmer would have stayed for 40 years if it wasn't so easy. It is time we throw the bums out all of them and we take back our country.
Every day we hear how Pres.Obama and V.P. Biden have inherited the economic mess. Well if congress regulates TRADE and COMMERCE where were they the last 2 years. Getting paid to find another better paying job. I guess humannature will always prevail and those elected will do what ever they can to live comfortly at the exspense of the people. Pres. Obama plan is have 57% of the epople pay no taxes and live off the tax revenues from the other 37%. I would call that fixing the race.Straight up Chicago politcs

An unfortunate title
Invoking the "Gang of 7" tag doesn't call up memories of the Gingrich revolution, rather, it calls to mind the complete sellout of the GOP by John McAmnesty and friends.

Eric Cantor already demonstrated his meddle last fall when he lead the cheering section for the "big boondoggle". That is not exactly a confidence builder!

The GOP got into trouble acting like democrats and will not make a comeback by playing nicely with the liberal power structure.

Pelosi and company already changed the rules of the house to virtually silence all republican dissent. The GOP must stand against bad legislation on every count. They must refuse to engage in a debate which is nothing more that arguing over how much money to waste.

They must make their argument to the people whenever they oppose legislation and explain how they would have done it differently and revisit those arguments when these policies fail.

In other words, the GOP must avoid being culpable. The old argument, "Hey, I know it was a bad bill but we needed a bill." will not fly.

Americans still respect principled people with the courage to resist being seduced by power. They will never respect the official who raises their taxes, and then doesn't pay his own.

It's time for the GOP to decide who they stand for; the people or the DC power elite.

The GOP...
...is just as enamoured of big government as the Dems.

Where is the Lone Ranger
Ron Paul - he's the truly lone Gang member. A voice crying out in the wilderness.

Ron Paul...
...appeared on a news program a few days ago. I caught only part of the exchange, and I cannot remember which show, but I noticed that the interviewers listened to Paul, and took him seriously. The sad part is that the interviewers are so steeped in Marxist ideology they seemed bewildered by the obvious truths contained in Paul's comments.

Let's See how GOP Senate does
Make it a litmus test: The Senators who vote for this monstrosity are OUT! Maine's Rinos come to mind.

Attack only Pelosi?
Come on now.
Reid is equally incompetent.
And the stimulating recovery bill is targeting a payback to every corrupt Democrat constituency.
Obama is the leader and his feint to the center was misleading. His moves to the hard left are in character.

Rangel
Someone should inspect these houses to see if he is a "Slum Lord".

Not Quite
The Dems cast a template: for 8 years, they had no ideas, and they spent every waking hour demonizing George W. Bush - even when he did things that they would have loved to take credit for (like aid to Africa.) They really didn't have any complaints; they just decided to make it personal.

It worked, to some extent. No ideas, no solutions, but they succeeded in wrecking President Bush's reputation (which history will restore.)

Of course, what Republicans did - in part - to Clinton wasn't much different: he was demonized even on those few occasions when he was right and in agreement with conservatives. The Book of Proverbs was prophetic with regard to Bill Clinton, and the gloating over his anticipated fall:
(Proverbs 24:17)
"Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:
Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and He turn away His wrath from him."

Clinton got off easy, so-to-speak, never being held accountable even for things that might rise to the level of mole-ish behavior.
And Bush was punished, metaphorically speaking, when he did a nice imitation of Odysseus, calling out to Polyphemus as he and his men rafted away.

You're right about one thing: pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey will work, especially when the donkey is named Pelosi, Reid, Rangel or Frank. What the Dems did to Bush will be easy to replicate with these corrupt clowns.

Michael Steele equal to Ron Paul?
If the Republican party, my party, is ever to regain the White house etc., it is my hope that Mr. Stteele is as clean and pure as Ron Paul is, in respecting the US Constitution and all the additional urgings that of the Founding Fathers, which is being claimed constantly by both parties, which in action, is nothing but the greatest swindle ever!

Presently the Republican party has behaved worse than the Democrats ever have. No question, it is the Republican party that is handing Obama an America, so fully bedeviled with Socialism/Commununism plus Imperialism; Imperialims especially the darling of the Republican party, leading America to the very hell of things.

If someone may challenge me, as to my suggestion that America is now an Empire, than I ask, why is it that now America is in full possession of the two basic ingredients that all previous Empires met? Number one: Borders little by little abondoned as not necessary, which is right before our eyes as to how America's borders are, right? Number two: Each Empire in the past created for themselves the most powerful military machinery of their time; now more so met by America than all previous Empires.

It is no me speaking, but the very Founding Fathers of this great nation. These words come handy even though not comming from the Founding Fathers: "I am concerned for the security of our great nation; not so much because of the threats from without, but because of the insidiuos forces working from within". By General Douglas MacArthur.

Yes, while America blames the whole world for all its onw problems and that of the whole world, while Empires always created problems for tthemselves and the world.

With Dems. not paying taxes
I would think a good slogan similar to Culture of Corruption that Pelosi blathered for years should be concocted:

Rangel owed back taxes, the Clintons amended their taxes several times when in DC, the new Treasury head didn't pay payroll taxes, Dodd dodged taxes with his sweetheard loan deals--

Someone dream up a catch phrase that accuses the Dems. of not paying taxes, ESP. SINCE BIDEN HAS SAID PAYING TAXES IS PATRIOTIC.

Dems. hate being called unpatriotic, because that's exactly what they are.

If you and I didn't pay taxes, the gov't would be taking our houses.

Maybe it should be a reverse: No representation without paying taxation. That's my take.

H.D.
The United States is the most benevolent world leader of all time. Ignoring state sponsors of terror for years was the easiest barometer to show this. How easy would it have been in 1991 to shut off southern Iraq not trusting Saddam which was the UN's right for saving Kuwait and protecting the Kurds in the north. He would have been neutered and forced to give up weapons. Instead we went along with the game of patsy while he worked under the table with our "allies" and loaded with cash and terrorist connections thumbed his nose at the U.S. What empire in world history would have allowed that?

The dim plan
What is it? We've been hearing about it for ten years but have yet to see it. We've been throwing money around and creating tons of bureaucrat jobs for a decades so how's that a plan? I want an alternative to the so called tax cuts for the rich. Because when they're repealed and I pay more on my salary I call that a lie. Because I'm not rich.

As soon as you libs and idealists out there understand that the better off we all will be. You see the DC crowd has bought into the pmm (Propaganda Media Machine) notion that we are a bunch of dupes to be manipulated by handouts and our poor children. That's the dims, always talk about the children, except those being birthed and having scissors injected in their brains.

The few dims that have a clue aren't anywhere near the twin idiots, Pelosi and Reid, and the ones talking to Oblaba have to be figured into his big political picture that he plays to. So we have two years of posturing and propaganda while its the same-o, same-o with a strong push towards massive big brother and European socialism. OBTW, which is being voted against over there. As much as it can considering how indoctrinated they are.

2010 is our only hope and the Republicans have shown the way by slamming this travesty of goverment led by Ms. Nitwit. Now if we'll get off of apologizing for not being team players. The dims and pmm have tried to lose a war and degrade our economy for eight years and they may actually have succeeded in both. We have to hope that we can build on 60 million that the others will see they picked the worst of two evils in November and we won't recover from this one. But we need conservative energy and these reps and Michael Steele are our best chance.

Perhaps Republicans are beginning to get the message that we did not vote them into power so they could help the Democrats to do business as usual.

Hopefully the next time we vote them into power to make changes, they will make some changes!

Some show, someplace,
suggested the BHO pretend he has the line-item veto. He should go through the bill and simply tell the Dems to remove this, this and this.

Except, despite the bleating that evil Nancy wrote the bill, he isn't really all that upset about it.

Did anyone really believe he would "look at all programs, and if they don't work they'll be eliminated." Come on. He's a Chicago Dem, and he will spend whatever it takes (of productive taxpayers' money) to make more and more Americans dependent so they'll be reliable Dem voters!

It's the Democrat Voters in Perpetuity Act.

MyOpine

I just watched the debate on This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Guests included, FedEx CEO Fred Smith, Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., and Google's Eric Schmidt.

I was very buoyed by Sen DeMint's strong and coherent argument against the boondoggle Obama, Pelosi, and Frank are presenting to the public as a "stimulus" package. He literally took their entire philosophy apart; HELPED BY Smith and Google's Eric Schmidt.

I think a lot more Americans got educated this morning.

KNOWLEDGE is POWER!

Conservative GOP members
Obama voters have reduced your numbers to the point that the liberals don’t even need RINO votes to pass everything they want, and that’s bad. It’s at the point where Nancy Ex-pelosi-ve is eliminating rules that allow you to have any effect. We need to get Conservatives back in the majority in Congress

WHAT ALL OF YOU MUST DO FROM NOW ON IS VOTE UNANIMOUSLY AGAINST EVERY BILL AND TAX THAT LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT VOTE FOR ANYTHING LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT GO ALONG TO GET ALONG WITH THE LIBERALS!!! DO NOT GO TO THEIR PARTIES!!! TOTALLY VOCALLY OPPOSE THE LIBERALS IN EVERY WAY, ESPECIALLY ILLEGAL ALIEN AMNESTY!!! THE LIBERALS ARE TRYING TO STICK YOU WITH PART OF THE BLAME FOR ALL THEIR FUTURE FAILURES; DON’T LET THEM DO IT!!! DO NOT CLAP WHEN OBAMA SAYS ANYTHING!!! JOINING LIBERALS IN ANYTHING IS SELLING OUT AMERICA!!! THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!! THEY ARE YOUR AND AMERICA’S WORST ENEMIES, AND WILL DO ANYTHING THEY CAN TO DESTROY BOTH!!! GET THE BLUEBLOOD COUNTRYCLUB ELITES OUT OF THE PARTY!!!

You cannot stop their bills or even slow them down beyond calling for roll call votes for them. Make everything they pass totally theirs. What you will be doing is getting on record as opposing all the destructive liberal bills. They are trying to get you on the hook with them, so you can’t blame them fully.

When all these liberal actions make things much worse, as they will, you can point at the record and show the people that none of you had anything to do with them, and that you had no control over their passage, that all this destruction was caused by liberals.

Then you can tell the people about the tax elimination plan that you proposed that was kept from a vote by the liberals, and other bills that you proposed. You did not vote for the Algore hoax which multiplied the cost of everything many times, and made energy and home heating inaccessible.

True stimulus
We the people pay all taxes, and we are the only ultimate source of all tax revenue. Regardless where government initially collects the money, all tax money ultimately comes from us, the people.
Since we the people are the one and only source of all tax revenue:
There should be only one tax to collect all tax revenue.
It should be a single, simple, fair, direct, graduated, individual, full-income tax levied on living persons for each level of government: One Tax and Done.
You cannot convince a person or a corporation to start a new business or expand an existing business, increase jobs, and hire new employees, when you tax away the operating capitol he is using to operate his PRESENT business
The best thing that government can do to help the country, the people, and even government, is to repeal all of the many hundreds, or thousands of existing taxes, fees, and charges. These taxes are the federal deficit. These taxes are the high price of everything. These tax eliminations are spending cuts. Every tax that is eliminated is a tax that we the people no longer have to pay. These taxes are the difference between the price we pay for health care and everything else, and the price we would pay if these taxes were repealed. Eliminating these taxes will remove them from the price paid for everything by everyone.
One Tax and Done will provide many benefits to all, even government:
One Tax and Done will reduce the price paid for everything by one-third.

Also John Campbell-CA
John Campbell (CA-42)is also a smart, witty telegenic, CPA & business owner. He cut his political teeth in the CA Assembly before advancing to Congress, so he knows how things work.

I'd also add my new rep: Tom McClintock (CA-4). Tom is smart, extremely knowledgeable of history and can run circles around the Dems on policy. One of his challenges is that he tends to be too intellectual, but I'll take intellect over emotion any day.

horrible advice Zito
Zito may not realize what she is saying because she is one of the millions upon millions of Americans who have been trained to think that the present manifestation of government is actually legal..IT'S NOT IT'S HORRIBLY , HORRIBLY ILLEGAL, we have strayed so far from Constitutional government that most people don't have an inkling what it really should look like. There is NO AUTHORITY given in the Constitution for economic meddling or policy setting. NO AUTHORITY given for bailouts, funding of the arts(NEA), Medicare, Medicaid, job creation, or any such creature. We need leaders(and citizens)who will let the plain language of the Constitution guide them. In the meantime our wealth, our resources are being stolen to fund other peoples agendas. Zito said to not obstruct, IS SHE CRAZY?, not just obstruct but rally the people to fight this ugly tyrannical usurpation of the government. Cantor is put forth as a leader? Please, he's okay with a stimulus plan, just not as big a one. Tell me Mr. Cantor by what invested power will you do this? I urge all to carefully read the Constitution, study history, read the Convention debates, and the ratification debates, and the ratifications themselves, and stop accepting this false narrative.

Wrong message
We need to oppose the liberals at every turn, not work with them, this is madness and the main reason we are in second place because they have no interest in working with us, they want to defeat us and to dictate what our role in the new order is to be. The Republican party has just slashed its own wrist with the nomination of a moderate (dimocrat) to run the republican party, this would seem to be the end of the Republican party. We need a two party system not liberal and liberal light, we need a conservative party to oppose the liberal Dimocrat party anything else is contrary to progress and common sense.

Alternative
Im begining to think i might have to change my affiliation before the next election, im not to sure the Republicans want conservatives anyway with the election of a moderate to run the RNC. Im thinking at this point the libertarians look pretty good.

up and coming
Good to see some new names that have future potential. Also good to see Republicans stick together and send a message--while it still is not going to be what we want, there actions will significantly improve the bill in the Senate. Also, running against Pelosi at this point must be the strategy

40 years of Democrats

We do know what the country looked like when the democrats last controlled congress and the white house.

Jimmy Carter and stagflation.

NOW
Now is the time for Republicans to take aggressive, loud, and clear stands on issues to send important messages.

They MUST. They are our only defense against the destructive force of socialism.

26
Yes, time will find you or me right! However, why is it that, for many years America itself, was in bed with evil Saddam; with America happy that he would eventually overthrow the Iran regime that kicked out from Iran, the American oil boy, that of deeply corrupt Sha of Iran?

There are pictures where Rumsfeld shakes hands in Baghdad, with this Saddam fellow who already was a terror to his own people including the Kurds who were actually in cahoot with Iranians.

On the other hand, how smart is it with borders treated by America as none-existent as now millions upon millions of illegals have settled in with its language now respected equal to English?

Additionally, as recetnly reported by the FBI, that America is now sort of happily or so one has to conclude, harboring 900,000 gang members with 147,000 sitting in jail. No question many of these illegals are part of these gangs. While America has messed around in Iraq, etc., the report indicates since 2005, 200,000 more gang members joined the "party".

So, I say, sort of to hell with saying that America is the most benevolent nation ever! Yes, while allowing gangs to terrorize America's own and costing perhaps millions of dollars of damage, with the taxpayers stuck with the bill! Yes feeding 147,000 of them in jail while at the same time, hunger in America has increased by 50%.

But you, whosoever you are, if you are happy that America acts now fully in tune with Imperialism, I say: God have mercy upon America?
I will not respond further!

Something to think about
Do you know a Dimwit has sponsored a bill to repeal the term limits on the president, it is a way to get the dictator what he wants, to be dictator for life. Fortunately, at least so far no one else has signed on as co-sponsor.

Welcome to Hell
Welcome to Hell

It just gets better and better doesn't it?

Ben Stein: Half of Stimulus Goes to Unions

Sunday, February 1, 2009 1:01 PM Article Font Size

Columnist Ben Stein has taken a close look at President Barack Obama's proposed $820 billion stimulus package, and made some eye-opening discoveries.

Writing for Spectator.com and NYPost.com, Stein calculates that:

• The House of Representatives debated the bill for eight hours, or roughly $102 billion per hour.

• Only 10 percent of the stimulus funds would be spent in 2009.

• Almost half of the $820 billion would end up in the pockets of Democratic-controlled unions, such as the Service Employees International Union, and federal, state, and municipal employee unions.

• At 680 pages long, neither Obama nor any member of the House had enough time to read the entire bill before the House voted.

• The $820 billion would be enough to give every unemployed American $75,000.

Says Stein:

"There has been pork-barrel politics since there has been politics, but the scale of this pork is beyond what had ever been imagined before -- and no one can be sure it will actually do much stimulation. ... This has been a punch in the solar plexus to the kind of responsible, far-seeing, mature government processes that are needed to protect America."

Soli Deo Gloria!!

We need to keep being obstructive
As well as picking fights with Liberal/Fascist Pelosi, and calling her on her house corruption.

Not possible.
It's not possible for GOP Congressmen to "...use the stimulus package to strengthen the role of state governments because self-described "non-partisan" Nancy Pelosi decreed that House Republicans couldn't participate in writing the bill.

There's no reason to think she'll permit them to participate in writing amendments or riders to reconcile it with whatever gets passed in the Senate or to participate in negotiations or compromises to provide a bill that get support from a wide spectrum.

The Democrats have been longing for a liberal dictatorship for 8 years and it took them only 8 days to show us why.

For H. D.
"...why is it that, for many years America itself, was in bed with evil Saddam; with America happy that he would eventually overthrow the Iran regime that kicked out from Iran, the American oil boy, that of deeply corrupt Sha of Iran?"

America was never "in bed" with Saddam.

Prior to the disastrous Carter Administration the US piad off the Mullahs and Ayatollahs of Iran so the Shah, who was our ally, could remain in power. Under Carter's naive policy of "morality in foreign policy", these bribes were halted.

So the Islamists overthrew the Shah.

This upset the balance of power in the Middle East with respect to the Cold War. While Iran was our ally and client state they balanced out the fact that Iraq was an ally and client state of the USSR.

Iraq, under Saddam, seized the opportunity of the break-up in US-Iran relations to start a war of conquest against Iran, but Iran, using the superior weaponry they got as a US client state, quickly drove them back

Reagan, who inherited this foreign policy debacle from Carter, sent Rumsfeld to be "Special Envoy" to Iraq and advise them on defending their country because Reagan was concerned that world's 2nd largest oil reserves would fall into the hands of the America-hating Islamists in Iran

Rumsfeld was a "Special Envoy", not an "Ambassador", because the US had NO DIPLOMACY with Iraq at the time. No Embassy, no treaties, no formal trade agreements, nothing; contrary to your grossly inaccurate and over-generalized description that we were "in bed" with Saddam.

The photo you describe was taken while Reagan and Rumsfeld were trying to clean up another train wreck caused by Carter.

THE GANG OF SEVEN

The Senators listed below are NOT doing the work of the original 'Gang of Seven'.

The seven Republican signers were Sens. Mike DeWine of Ohio, Susan Collins of Maine, Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, Lincoln Chaffee of Rhode Island, John McCain of Arizona, John W. Warner of Virginia and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine.

They, more than likely, will add to the 25 government entitlements in the stimulus scam rather than cutting the stinking PORK!

I read the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The only jobs I see in the scam are thousands of government lifetime jobs in Washington, D.C. and a few thousand jobs for the corrupt ACORN enterprise, with their headquarters in CHICAGO, ILLINOIS at the cost of $400 million.

I think this ploy is the beginning of the new president's national security force, PUBLIC ALLIES, who will be as equally strong as our military and a budget to match.

During all this 'payback' spending the new Commander in Chief is not spending any money on the military! The military still has not recovered from Bill Clinton's 8 years in the White House.

The new Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and Senators Schumer and Kerry are leading the Socialists to pass the United Nation's Law of the Sea Treaty, You must read and heed! This is the ‘NEW WORLD ORDER placing our country’s ships, planes, fishing and drilling et cetara under the rule of the UN!

Maybe a few more thousand jobs will be created for the tree huggers and global warming socialists. Soooo where does the 3 to 4 million jobs come from? I know the infrastructure stuff included will create thousands more, but this will not happen until 2010 to 2012. NONE of this is 'shovel ready' either.

So to clean up Carter's mess it is warranted and honorable to use a fellow like Saddam, who was already terrorizing his own people, and killing, God only knows how many men women and children, and this by the Nation under God?

God have mercy upon this kind of thinking! Besides I can only wonder whether Ronald Reagan, who was not a dirty politician was really aware what Rumsfeld was doing behind him?

But, lets let time be the judge as to what America is all about, at home and abroad. I will say no more. I guess the first responder has quieted down after my first response to his response to my very first comment.

Isn't John Campbell a jihadi-sympathizer who has very close ties to the CAIR gang?

Stand
Republicans must return to liberalism. Forget the nightmare of the last eight years. Start the steady attacks on every Democrat move that violates our party's planks. We have a lot of bad policy and publicity to overcome, but it can be done. Think of how far down the Democratic Party was 12 years ago. I just hope it doesn't take that long for us.
