Howard Dean's empty hand

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Americans have a stunning visual of what political “owesies” can be, thanks to Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s bleep-filled pursuit of political paybacks.

Yet there is a more reasonable side to rewarding individuals who help a candidate to win.

Two of the more deserving outside of Barack Obama’s Chicago network are Sen. Ted Kennedy and outgoing Democratic Party chairman Howard Dean.

“While Kennedy provided Sen. Obama with the imprimatur of a legitimate Democratic candidate, one in particular who was more liberal rather than centrist, Gov. Dean was more important for Sen. Obama’s campaign,” says Villanova University political science professor Lara Brown.

Brown believes Dean’s stridency regarding the nomination calendar and punishing the “rogue states” of Michigan and Florida was critical to Obama's win.

Add to that Dean’s “50-state program” (putting political workers and cash in every state), his awakening of the progressive movement, and the “net-roots” Internet blueprint he created during his failed 2004 presidential run, and you’d think Dean would be welcomed by the new administration.

So far, not so much.

The perfect place for Dean, Democratic insiders argue, would have been as Health and Human Services secretary, which went to the Democrats’ former Senate majority leader, Tom Daschle. Word is that Daschle was reluctant to take such a bureaucratic position, so a czar-like power was added by having him oversee a new White House health-reform office.

“Daschle is much better-suited,” says Franklin and Marshall College political scientist Terry Madonna. “He knows senators … and has the experience it will take to work with the Congress” on such issues as universal health-care coverage. “Dean has been too much of an outsider to help Obama here.”

Madonna argues against rewarding Dean for doing the right thing. “Do we give him credit for upholding his own party's rules -- he gets a reward for doing what's right? This is not a profile-in-courage here.”

Yet Villanova’s Brown is unsure, based on all Dean has done, why he does not appear to be moving into the administration.

Republican strategist Kent Gates theorizes that this reflects “a total Rahm (Emanuel) block.”

The clash between the two party chairs during the 2006 midterm election is legendary: Emanuel ran the party’s congressional arm back then and divided bitterly with Dean over cash. With Emanuel now Obama's right-hand man, it makes sense that Dean’s name is not being circulated.

Gates says that not putting Dean in the cabinet shows Obama places a higher premium on unity than loyalty, adding: “Dean does his own thing and has too much power with party activists to keep around.”

Dean made his share of enemies as party chairman, but progressives -- and out-of-work Republican officials -- will argue that he was more right than wrong about the party needing a presence where it previously had little.

High-level figures often don’t initially land significant positions in a new White House. Ronald Reagan had no room at first for George Shultz; Charles Duncan lost out as defense secretary under Jimmy Carter; Averill Harriman and Richard Holbrooke had to work their ways back under JFK and Bill Clinton.

Political scientist Bert Rockman cautions that not all cabinet positions have been picked yet, so there is still time for the good doctor to cancel his train ticket back to Vermont.

CNN political analyst and former Democratic operative Donna Brazile counts herself as a Dean fan: “As chair, he brought with him a compass, a flashlight and a strategy to basically plant seeds of hope in all 50 states.

“He deserves some credit for this new season of possibility.”

RECIPROCITY
Surely, if the good Doctor wanted a particular position in the OBAMA administration, all he need do is request...and it will be done.

NATURE'S WARNING
Nature has a subtle way of warning us of impending disasters, tsunamis, earthquakes, tornados, etc. Is nature trying to warn us today? See the evidence at, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com

And the point is?
Who gives a flying fig about Democrat inside gossip? Instead of focusing on liberal political stategy, wouldn't it be more appropriate to put that energy to use on discussing conservative strategy?

Can anyone suggest a conservative website? This one no longer fills the bill.

DanNV,

I agree with your thoughts about the lack of Conservative posters here.

However, from the 'Rules Of Warfare', 'If you do not know your enemy and his strategy, you are at a distinct disadvantage', ( paraphrasing here. )
For that, this article is interesting.

This article IN NO WAY addresses how we get Conservatives nominated.

I will NEVER support a RINO or CINO, regardless of who they are running against.

Now! How do we get Conservatives to give up good paying, rewarding jobs, and compete to get elected to the SEWER of Washington D. C. ?

HOW ?

DanNV,

I agree with your thoughts about the lack of Conservative Columnists here.

There are plenty of Conservative POSTERS here.

Sorry Conservatives, still early here.

Sad Rat

This article leaves off
any fact that educates conservatives of democratic strategy.
Matter of fact it leaves out one very pertinent fact. Barack Obama has yet another campaign promise broken.
He promised "no lobbiest in his cabinet"...
What is Daschle?

Deaniacs
Dean helped Obama fake his religious beliefs, postulating - (for several years now) - that Christians can be fooled by faux-Evengelicals.
That's also why Obamessiah opponents failed: they spent so much time claiming that he was a Muslim, when they could have made a lot of his willingness to butcher already-born babies.

So Dean was right, and many Evangelicals sat at home or voted for the black guy making history - (the latter was a reason many Christians voted for him, and I don't care how that sounds, since it is reality.)

Dean, however, is deeply unpopular, reminding one of the father of Robert the Bruce in Braveheart; better he keepself locked in the tower, pretending to be away: his visage only inspires those who suffer from the same disease.

Dean
was why BHO won. His strategy was correct. He will move onto the next phase of his life. Maybe just being a doctor is all he wanted. And he sure got the last laugh on conservatives. Did any of you think you would see him after 2004? Weeeeehaaaaaa!

Good job Dr. Dean, good job!

Dean's next job
He partnered with the criminal elements of Chicago politics to deliver -- an act of revenge for his own failure and that of Gore's and Kerry's. His delivery is presented as a "black relief" where in fact BHO is bi-racial of radical background, religiously, ethically and politically. Given Dean receives credit for this revenge, let him enjoy the fruits of participating in the coming moral and financial bankruptcy of the United States.

Dean
He didn't need to tell Hussein how to lie.He was already an expert in the art of prevarication

DEAN WAS A NON FACTOR

.....Obama won because McCain was a weak candidate ...GW had betrayed his Conservative Base with fiscal irresponsibility and the economy tanked weeks before the election ...

.....The election was a "perfect storm" for a "change" and Obama was the beneficiary ...Dean had little or next to nothing to do with Obama's success ...

.....After the honeymoon period is over America will come to its senses and buyer's remorse will set in ...Obama will have a tough go in 2012 and nobody, including Dean will be able to save him .....COLOSSUS

I think you’re thinking about Sun Tzu quote “Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.” That would explain why Obama offered Hillary the job of Secretary of State and why she accepted the offer. I believe that should either one of them slip or make a bad decision, the other one will lambaste the other in the press, of course to set themselves up for the 2012 election.

But, one of my favorite quotes from Sun Tzu is this one in which I believe fits in more closely to democratic strategy. “All warfare is based on deception. There is no place where espionage is not used. Offer the enemy bait to lure him.” This may be the strategy that Obama and Emanuel used to get Rod Blagojevich off their backs by promising something to him they were never going to give him. Some insiders are claiming it was Emanuel that tipped off the FBI and Patrick Fitzgerald off when they refused to appoint him to Obama’s cabinet. They had to know his personality of greed by possible prior behavior. I think they wanted to nail him by exposing his greed to the public. The greed of Blagojevich and his wife was well known as well as their limited vocabulary. He played them like he has played so many in his past, he gets their confidence and then bam, and he takes them down.

I also believe that Obama used a different strategy on Hillary based on another Sun Tzu quote “Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formlessness. Be extremely mysterious, even to the point of soundlessness. Thereby you can be the director of the opponent's fate.”

Howard Dean
I'd say it's time for Howard Dean to crawl back into the woodwork from which he came.
I'll be glad to see "the screamer" go and wish him well.

Democat goals and ideals
Can ANYONE tell me what the democrats want?
(Besides power) What exactly are the democrat goals?
I frimly believe that they are unwilling to divulge this information. Could it be that it is so dangerous to America that it must remain hidden?

Please.
I really want to know

Dean of Education?
I think Education is still open. Maybe Dean ought to land that job.

Perhaps many of the conservatives who might otherwise post on these blogs are intimidated by the persuasive arguments made by the liberal posters. Hmmmm?

A Tale of Two Screamers.
He is getting credit enough. It is likely his services will not be rendered further owing to the other screamer, Hillary. Dean kept her and Bill (the Don) from steam rollering the primary process. It was her turn. As you can see, she would have won as Bill guaranteed, if she had had the nomination.

WHAT DEMOCRATS WANT

.....SCRAP IRON @ 1:11

.....Maria Cantrell, Democrat Senator from Washington State said "that it was the plan of the Democrats to "wean" America off the use of fossil fuels" ...

.....My guess is that the Democrats want to destroy the Capitalist System and bring all industry under Government control which is Socialist Fascism ...MARX wrote that the the means to take over the government is by taking over the means of production (through the unions) ...first will come Nationalized Health Care, then the utilities and then the energy companies .....COLOSSUS

Sorry?
When I first read this I thought it was "Howard Dean's Empty Head"! I apologize for my reading goof; but wonder if my goofed reading actually is factual! Oh well, another story for another day!

DanNV has a point!

I couldn't agree with DanNV more. Without a vision, the people perish. Where do we go from here? Columnists need to be addressing that issue.

Dean's Main Duty Failure
The good doctor put through a candidate who is ineligible. Which hospital was BO born in? Nobody seems to know, not even a DOCTOR!

first Doc on the moon
After the Dr. Dean personally over sees national health care, puts Al Franken in the Senate, confiscates all guns and ammo, puts a friend in as Gov of Il, has New Hampshire declared eligible for TARP, I think that he will ask to be made a Supreme Court Justice. This should take about six months. The next years he will ensure that any one can marry any one (Denny Crane), and he will spend the rest of his life dedicated to making America communist. All of this success will make Obama an 2 term guy and a Rushmore candidate. Piece of cake.

Just in-
Obama wasnt born, he was hatched. Thats right - they have found pieces of eggshell in some old papers that were found in a rent controlled apartment near Columbia University. The apartment is owned by The Kennedys. The apartment was vacant for years and years and then Obama moved in. There is no record of him paying any rent.
The egg shells seem to be a mixture of African eagle and Russian osprey but LARGER.

Obama's birthplace = Unlawful presidency
Churches burning, socialist flags waved on the white house lawn, they placed a crescent moon on the NY Christmas tree, a 2-bit wantabe mob is running what's left of the Chicago outfit from back in Giancana's day...

Look, Obama's not a natural US born citizen and therefore not eligible by OUR AMERICAN CONSTITUTION to be president in the first place. And the longer we ignore the BIG GORILLA IN THE ROOM, and this farce and imposture is maintained, the worse it becomes.

So far Obama’s only provided a Photoshop forgery of a birth certification. The fact is that the Hawaiian officials refuse to answer if the original certificate of live birth they hold in a vault is from Kenya or Hawaii. The burden of proof is on Obama. For $12 he could prove himself, but instead he’s spent over $10 million dollars trying to get around it.

Unlawful occupation of the Office of the President means no new valid legislation. No valid nominations, including to the Supreme Court. No valid Executive Orders. No lawful commands as Commander in Chief. Such a situation paralyzes legitimate government.

The American Independence Party is holding a press conference tomorrow to address just that.
http://aipnews.com/talk/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=1323&pos ts=3#M4410

**********************************
But don't take my word for it, check out Obama’s forged birth certification for YOURSELF (all it takes is an 8th grade education and a year of Photoshop [or even Corel Draw for that matter] and you can see it's fake).

http://moniquemonicat.wordpress.com/2008/12/04/%E2%80%A2-la test-update-on-obama-birth-certificate-case/

There is only ONE reason Obama would post a forged birth certification on his website, and why he's spent $10 million dollars trying to avoid having to: he doesn't have a legitimate one to show the American public because he WAS BORN IN KENYA.

Dean's probably more content than Zito.
Maybe Dean did not want a position within the Obama administration.

I saw an interview on television recently of Dean, and he seemed quite content...did not think he got stiffed by the Obama campaign.

Dean was vindicated on his "50-state strategy" that so devastated the GOP.

GOP may become viable again..if it shucks the neocons, and limits the social conservatives to ceremonial positions.

Ratas y Ratones, I think there are lots of GOP posters and columnists on this forum.

That is a far, far different creature than thinking there are lots of conservative posters and columnists.

Genuine conservatism and the GOP are like oil and water.

When mixed, they will invariably separate out into their distinctive properties...one has nothing to do with the other.

comical
Dean's a hoot, when he let out that scream I almost fell off my chair laughing...what a guy.
