Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--You just knew that when Joe O’Connell, former head of the local AFL-CIO, got on stage here with John McCain and Sarah Palin things were not going smoothly for the Obama campaign among union voters.

“I am a lifelong Democrat, an intelligent Democrat, who is supporting John McCain,” O’Connell said last week as a crowd of 7,000 waved “Another Democrat for John McCain” signs and roared its approval.

O’Connell assured the energized crowd that “organized labor will have a seat at the table when John McCain becomes president.”

It’s the kind of statement that Pennsylvania AFL-CIO President Bill George does not want to hear.

“It’s a problem,” George admits, “but we are in an all-out effort to educate our members that the Democratic Party is the only one for working families.”

He is not exaggerating when he says “all-out effort” – just try following him for a day and you’re exhausted by the events, focus groups and sit-downs in which he participates.

Democrats count on unions for get-out-the-vote efforts and for the support of members and their families. Without them, states such as Pennsylvania and Ohio -- which each have about 740,000 workers who belong to unions, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics -- would move into the Republican column.

George narrows the problem down to race. “There is no question, earlier in the primary campaign the racial issue was there, just like the gender issue was with Hillary for some unions,” he says.

“We in America like to think we don’t have any hang-ups or stereotypes. But because of our history and because of a lot of industrial psychology controlling the masses, people have innate prejudices.”

George says that the mind-set of some people in the labor movement regarding race is no different than it is in church groups, or in the Republican Party.

Joe Rugola is George’s counterpart in Ohio and he, too, is seeing a problem with race and his members. Yet he also sees another dynamic going on -- a respect among union members for McCain.

“There is no question that John McCain historically has had a cultural connection with our members,” Rugola says, “but the reality is that his policies are not good for working families.”

Frank Stricker, a history professor at California State University and a union expert, says race is a key to what alienates segments of the labor movement, especially in Ohio and west of Philadelphia in Pennsylvania.

Stricker says that other than people not voting for a black candidate, a couple of factors -- such as Obama's cultural style and pro-choice stand -- do not sit well with culturally conservative union members.

University of Virginia professor Larry Sabato is blunter: “There’s no question that race is at the heart of Obama’s problem with blue-collar white union members. You’d have to be pretty naive to think otherwise.”

Sabato explains that, normally, today’s severe economic dislocation would send union members flocking to the Democrats’ nominee. “Well, they are not flocking. McCain is their kind of guy. His biography and maverick nature are appealing.”

Yet for some labor members race does not factor at all in their voting decisions.

Joe Swistok, 62, of Southington, Ohio, is a lifelong union member who began working at Republic Steel in 1964; his father had worked there since 1936. He switched his party registration to Republican during the Reagan years.

“Reagan impressed me. That guy did a lot for this guy,” Swistok says, referring to himself. “This area is devastated for one reason: You can’t tax businesses and expect them to stay.”

Stricker thinks Obama “must make a strong economic-populist appeal,” one hinging on class warfare, in order to win Pennsylvania and Ohio.

To that end, both George and Rugola are engaged in huge voter-contact efforts -- door-knocking, phone calls, mailings, peer-to-peer efforts.

According to an AFL-CIO spokesman, 2.1 million registered voters live in union households in Ohio, 1.7 million in Pennsylvania. In a close election, every one of these votes matters for Democrats.

“Approximately a quarter of all American households say there is a union member in the home,” Sabato explains. “They are much more Democratic than average, but in GOP landslide years like 1972 and 1984, a majority has voted Republican.”

Sabato says that a third or more union members consistently vote Republican for president, despite their union leaders’ recommendations.

Part of Obama's problem is the contrast he presents: On one day alone last week, he spoke passionately about the country’s economic concerns, then zipped off to Los Angeles to raise $9 million from Hollywood’s elites.

That’s sort of like John Kerry windsurfing during the 2004 election: Union members in Youngstown or in “Little Washington,” Pa., just can’t relate.

Race and the Union Vote
"Will it really matter? The polls show Obama surging in MI, OH and PA. Or are the polls biased?"

There is an online analysis of the way th epolls are believe to by calculated by putting different "weights" on different segments of the population. Currently Democrats and/or blacks are weighed more heavily than Republican and/or white votes. For example, if you polled 100 people and 52 were for McCain/Palin and 48 for Obama/Biden, but you weighed the McCain/Palin voters at 90% (52 x 0.9 = 46.8%) and weighed Obama/Biden voters at 110% (48 x 1.1 = 52.8%) oyu can see how the polls get skewed towards one side or the other.

The above info was reported on WizBangBlog.

AN END TO SECRET BALLOTS?
Do most Americans even know that Obama has promised the union big-whigs that he would do away with secret ballots in organizing campaigns? Probably not, because the mainstream media is ignoring the story. Well, here it is:

http://colony14.net/id18.html

Perhaps if unions stopped taking money from union dues to give to candidates their members don't support the rank and file worker might be less angry. They want to be left alone to work and prosper, not fed socialist garbage.

The union voter will avoid Obama because of his socialism, not because of his race. If the media weren't in the tank for the candidate, it would have been Hillary versus McCain.

http://colony14.net/id18.html

SEIU Dues 4 Democrats-Obama bad 4 unions
I know being a member of SEIU in Pennsylvania means the union aggressively expects its members to vote for only Democratic candidates in each and every election. Then later after the elections are over and it comes time to provide the assistance we require, just like our union’s national leaders, who also use our union funds for their own purposes, all we are going to hear is things like financial resources are too limited or your not doing enough to help yourselves. That is the way the Democratic party treats union members; use the unions to get elected than go off and do as they see fit!
Only this presidential cycle, Sen. Obama is already doing as he sees fit despite union members’ overwhelming opposition to his beliefs and past actions. First before we even voted, we are being told we are prejudice because of his race. Second, how about limiting gun ownership and the rights of unborn children? I know the big money in the Democratic party supports the rights of animals from nasty hungry hunters, but doesn’t see the problem when unborn human gets cut up to pieces. Killing baby okay, killing animals bad! These are just two issues I can’t get past. I don’t have to even worry I am considering race as an issue, since I can’t get past issues number 3, 4, 5..etc. Who thought this guy would be a good president and why?

Democrats Wear Sign: Kick Me
This is like when Tawana Brawley covered herself in excrement and Al Sharpton tried to blame it on honest cops. Very clever of the Democrats to nominate someone they could use to smear everyone as racist or sexist in Hillary's case. Very clever, almost too clever. Do the Democrats have anything to offer other than abortion, higher taxes, class warfare, and group identity/victimhood? If they do I haven't heard it.

Hal Donahue #195 addendum
EXISTING DEMOCRAT TAX BILLS

45 TRILLION DOLLARS = Carbon credit Tax
1 TRILLION DOLLARS = Charlie Rangel’s Tax
845 BILLION DOLLARS = Obama’s To-The-UN Tax
76 BILLION DOLLARS = Obama’s gasoline tax
10 CENTS PER GALLON = Gasoline pump tax increase

WE THE PEOPLE PAY ALL TAXES, PERIOD!!!

Hal, Which of these taxes do you find not to be destructiive, and you will pay it for all 300 million other citizens?

I don't care if he's black or yellow or
red or purple! I am sick and tired of being told if I don't vote for Obama I'm a racist. I am not voting for Obama because he is a SOCIALIST and he is DANGEROUS! I disagree with what few policies he has actually told us about while on the campaign trail. I don't believe taxing the rich is going to do anything more than close businesses in the US and move them overseas. I don't believe he can create any form of "health care for all" without forcing the rest of us to pay for it. I think he has no clue when it comes to foreign relations....we cannot negotiate with people who want to kill us. I think the man is BAD FOR AMERICA. That is why I, a life-long union member, am NOT voting for Barack Obama...NOT because of his skin color.

Hal Donahue #195
In 1990, the democrat-controlled U. S Congress passed destructive tax increases and called them deficit reduction to tax tens of thousands of employers out of business and taxed millions of jobs out of existence, to make the people angry with Bush 41. That got us Slick Willy.

In 1991, the democtrat-controlle PA State government (House, Senate, & Governor) passed "Governor Casey's Highest State Business Taxes in the Nation" which destroyed much of PA's business and industry by taxing many thousands of employers out of business and many tens of thousands of jobs out of existence, knowing how destuctive these taxes would be, and knowing that reducing taxes would increase tax revenue.

You're trying to tell us that democrats don't pass destructive outsourcing taxes.

Questions
Some people ask these questions:

How much of the price of a GM car is salary for people no longer working?

How much of the price of a GM car is healthcare for people now longer working?

This is my question:

How much of the price of a GM car is taxes -federal, state, county, municipal, and school taxes? About 1/3 of it

I have a time share condo
I have been trying to get rid of. All you people who believe these polls need to talk to be about buying this condo.

Liberals and the Race card
White Liberals are the most Pathetic creates. Labeling Republicans as racists. They (Liberals) are so ate up with the White Liberal Guilt that they cannot help themselves. Liberals believe that by assigning the race card to others Whites who are not Liberal some how makes them a better, more tolerant, more Enlightened White person. Wrong, its just a very weak rationalization.

Plez do not bring race when....
Quote:

Pro-choice is far from a racist issue and the cultural barriers exist, which may drive a vote. Yet, is it racist when one hates your ideology of abortion or another issue? Maybe not.

Is it Racist voting?

even if a voter express their racismm to show there very strong distaste for the candidate position to abortion or some other issue that they abhore?

Racism can come out, but it was the issue that was driving the vote. How do the polls separate this factor?

I guess, I'm not one for the cult of personality we have in politics. It's interesting but disconcerting. I agree with Palin on her stated values, but the only crowds of supporters I care about are on Nov 4th at the voting booth. All this other stuff is fluff.

I asked the question you failed to answer

Sorry, Hal, you asked the question about landing on the moon as an answer to my statement that FDR and the New Deal with progressive taxes and redistribution to infrastructure and entitlements made him a Socialist. Sorry, you failed to read.

"LMAO reduced to name calling now?"

- What name did I call you? Methinks projection has set in, please recall when you called another poster a fool:"

"druggie the other poster was indeed a fool but I am not a druggie not even legal ones"

Got a quote for me calling you a druggie? Off your meds? IS that your idea of name calling? Seriously? You asked about the moon landing in reference to FDR being a socialist, o.k., so out of your gourd? Does that work? Didn't you lower the conversation for us all by referring to another poster as a fool? So I got comfortable with your standard of conversation, you want it better, start with yourself.

"Apparently your masters degree belies that you received a good education, and proving my point. It certainly is not evident in any of your arguments so far. (and Ut oh, LMAO makes you sound a bit infantile)"

"You extreme conservatives are laughable the LMAO stays."

Please, leave it, it makes it that much more laughable when you claim to have any education beyond high school. Teenage speak is about what I expect from your compelling discourse.

And regarding "extreme", please define that if you have the capacity. If not, please refrain from casual insults if you expect others to refrain from casual insults.

Same liberal do as I say, not as I do attitude ... what else would one expect.

But Ken, I just can't quit Hal
Ken,

On a whim, I checked the comments here, and lo and behold, Hal and Ranger are commenting away.

No worries, they just help refine our arguments (when they can stay on point and not wander into a non-sequitor about landing on the moon, eh Hal?)

Had a friend call from Orlando. He went to the to see Palin and said there thousands of folks there, pretty cool. Guess they're imaginary supporters too, right Hal?

When did you change your screen name to

But to answer one thing you said, Robert, we have a very large and very politically active gay communinty here in Utah.

But like most other Liberals/Democrats, they don't tolerate very well when members of their "community" stray from the doctrines that they're mandated to follow simply by virtue of being gay.

In otherwords, "You're gay so you live the way we tell you to, or else."

I've seen the way they abuse those who do stray firsthand. Iran's treatment of gays is almost as bad.

UNIONS DON'T HAVE MUCH LEVERAGE ANYMORE!
My father and grandfather were steel workers. They worked for U.S. Steel and belonged to the union. Back in the late 40's through the 60's the unions had alot of clout. Most of the unions and union workers were Democratic because they represented the "working class" American. They helped get better hours, better pay and insurance for their workers. Today, in this economy, the unions can't get their workers much of anything let alone help them to keep their jobs!

So when they tell their workers who to vote for...the workers do what they want because they aren't getting much for their union dues!

I just heard a report tonight where Detroit Automotive Union Leader Gettlefinger (Flim Flam Obamaman supporter) said that Senator McCain should be buying American. He, and his family, own a total of 13 cars...Lexus...Prius...etc. Senator McCain has said he always, through the years, bought American.

It is not fair to chastise the Senator for this. Many of these foreign cars are made right here in America...either entirely or parts, etc. Even many of the American cars sold overseas are made over there. It is hard to buy a truly "American" made car. I know...a couple of years we were looking and had a hard time buying American. We settled on a Dodge minivan.

So Mr Gettlefinger...if you want Americans to buy American we will...just tell us which ones are totally made in America!

I will vote in November for President Elect McCain and Vice President Elect Palin because they were totally made in America!

IGNORANCE of ENGLISH LANGUAGE
Hey,Corinne, Dad, Hal, etc. What are you bickering fellows referring to? What the heck is a "gay". The word "gay" is an adjective, and a synonym for happy, exuberant, etc. Stop the PC crap, will you. It's not even entertaining to read. Good night.

great video here
here's an awesome video on Youtube about Obama's flip flops. please send to everyone you know. I'm jumping on a movement to make this video go viral, I think it's a very effective video for McCain/Palin.

Yes it was Corrine
And it was also "open minded, inclusive and tolerant" Democrats that also threaten to "out" ANY gay republican who dares to not go along with their herd mentality.

So answer me this Hal, if we Republicans hate gays so much, why is it that a couple gay guys I work with tell me that when they admit to being Republicans around other gays they're immediately subject to scorn, ridicule, and HATE on the scale of a lynchmob out to hang them. they were called Homophobes, bigots, gaybashers and all kinds of other names BY OTHER GAYS. And these guys aren't the first to tell me of this abuse from their fellow Gays.
and I saw some of the hateful emails they got from their "fellow gays" for this.
It was worse than how bad Democrats and other "open minded and tolerant" libs/Dems treat black who dare to leave their Massa's plantation.

Come on Hal, I'm waiting for you to explain this one away.

UNIONS
I would like to make a comment on the article. Unions in this country have been corrupt since about 1940, and have been steadily become more corrupt since.
Unions were interested in the well being of workers for about 15 minutes after their inception originally; think the separate entities AFL and CIO, which hated, and bitterly fought each other until it became evident that neither would become as politically powerful as each wanted until they joined forces. To do what, you ask? Increase the numbers, increase the dues total, increase the political contributions, increase the political influence, increase the propensity of the politicians to vote for favorable union bills, and merrily around and around we go, in perpetuity. The only thing that has changed since long ago is a steady increase in the power, influence, and corruption money merry-go-round. All unions are as corrupt as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were, and the vast majority of politicians are, and yes of course, they are all interconnected.
That Democrats count on unions to "get out the vote" of the 740,000 unionized workers in each of the states Pennsylvania and Ohio is rather telling, is it not?
What party do you suppose the union memberships are most cozy with when it comes to the merry-go-round, and why can't the union membership be allowed to "get out" their own votes as individual people, without coercion from the "helpful" union leadership?

845 BILLION DOLLARS-TO-THE-UN: Obama's tax
76 BILLION DOLLARS: Obama's gasoline tax which we-the-people will pay.

TOTAL: 47 TRILLION DOLLARS WHICH WE THE PEOPLE WILL PAY IN NEW TAXES. These taxes are written and waiting for dems to pass and Hussein to sign.

To a union member 2 try again
Remember that, in 1990, these Democrat-party federal-level politicians greatly increased these taxes to force tens of thousands of employers to put millions of Americans out of jobs, to anger the people and get President Bush out of office. In 1991, the democrat-controlled PA state government did the same for no apparent reason other than “they could”. How many union members lost their jobs? Did the politicians ask for union permission to destroy jobs? All union members are paying the politicians to cut union members’ throats!!!

You must get the membership to send the local union boss to the state union boss and to the national union boss. The state and national bosses should go to the state bosses and national bosses of all the other unions. All the union bosses should go to the state and federal politicians to tell them that they will not get any more money, support, and votes until they repeal all these destructive, union-job-destroying taxes and get rid of the illegal aliens who are taking union jobs. If they don’t repeal the taxes and deport the illegal aliens, use the primary election to give your support to another candidate.

At this time, the state and national bosses can give copies of “One Tax And Done” and “How To Get Rid of Illegal Aliens” to each politician. I’ll follow this letter with state and federal versions of it. You probably haven’t thought about it, but if all those taxes had been repealed by 1946, we would have one of the best railroad systems in the world, and you wouldn’t have to worry that Amtrak might go under and your job might not last for ten more years – a concern you’ve expressed to me. The money that these taxes take from Amtrak is needed by Amtrak to stay in business and provide jobs; and the jobs taken by illegal aliens are needed by you and your union brothers.

To a union member 2
You oppose my Total Tax Reform plan called “One Tax And Done”. Do you really enjoy paying much more for everything than you should have to pay; and do you enjoy seeing many union jobs taxed out of existence? There is something that you haven’t considered:

It is your duty to sell the plan. It is your duty and responsibility to your union, to go to your union meetings and remind the other members that they pay a lot of money to the union as dues, and that a lot of that dues money (how much?) is given by the union bosses to state and federal Democrat-party politicians to keep them in office. Your union bosses don’t give any money to Republican-party politicians.

It is also your duty to remind the membership that these Democrat-party politicians are constantly passing more and higher taxes, some of which are to be used to give an additional 845 billion dollars to the UN. These taxes have forced and continue to force many tens of thousands of employers out of business, out of the state, and out of the country, along with all the many jobs these employers provided. This is called outsourcing, and taxes are one of the main reasons for it. Hershey’s closing of the Luden’s Candy factory where Mom worked is a good example of this. Luden’s is a union shop, and the union jobs are going to Mexico, India, and Red China, thanks to all the destructive taxes the Democrat-party politicians passed and increased.

These same Democrat-party politicians are also trying to get amnesty for the many millions of illegal aliens, so they can take jobs presently held by long-term union members. Ask members of construction unions, who have already lost their jobs to illegal aliens, about this. The politicians you are paying to keep in office are taxing millions of union jobs out of existence, and are trying to get illegal aliens into others.

Ya think maybe Calypso Louis, and Jerry Wright, and Father Fagger (however it's spelled) might have had a bit to do with "blue collar" unease?
How about Jessie Jackson and his "Word of Whoopie" (see French "Word of Cambronne").
How about Whoopie and her "dear little friends"

Hal, actually it is congress that is helping the illegals, just as Obama has promised to do. This is a very important topic to me, as I lived in TX and saw what they did. And how much money it is costing us to keep them here.you seem to think you know about everything. No my husband is not competing with big carriers, he is a mover. I most def will not be voting for any of the current congress, unless I see that they have done anything correct. Time to clean house! And it was Clinton that dergulated the industry. And didn't make sure NAFTA was a fair trade. Deregulation was not a bad thing, but the cost of diesel, that Obama and Congress want to do nothing about def is.

Despite the endless bravado by Hal, the Obama people know they're in for very close election.

But let's hope Hal & Co. continue with this "I suspect they will call PA very quickly" stuff. The Dems. talked a similiar game four years ago with Kerry.

One of the greatest mistakes of the liberal left the last eight years has been their misjudgment of America's middle class. And they wonder why they can't win a presidential election.

TRUTH...Black America for Obama

The following Ohio poll shows a whopping 98% of Black America voting for Obama....because he is black. But the liberal media won't touch it with a ten foot poll.
http://blog.cleveland.com/openers/2008/09/ONOpoll.pdf

We cannot see beyond race
because Michelle and Barry keep reminding us that they are black. No one looks like me on the dollar bill, he said. Every time Michelle opens her mouth, that chip on the shoulder comes with the message. No wonder we don't see her much anymore. The Democrats are trying to shut her up. One gets the impression she just left the plantation, instead of having the privilege of an Ivy degree and making millions of dollars. Her constant class envy message is tiresome to the independent voters who are looking for someone to uplift them, not to feel guilty because of all the evil white people.

Summers
Did I leave anything out?

1 Trillion = Bush =McCain
I don't remember the last time a GOP administration bailed out the unions and they don't either. Obama will tie this bailout like an anchor around McCain's neck.Make no mistake the Bush GOP will branded as the sugar daddies for this financial implosion. The tax burden will be about $2,000.00 per person. Not a lot for a fatcat but a union guy.REVENGE!!

Racial Double Standard
The vast majority of blacks are voting for Obama because he is part black. The fact that he is also for abortion and has a liberal agenda is part of it but why is no one questioning the black vote as monolithic and lacking diversity of thought? It appears to go without question that blacks will of course support Obama because they identify with his blackness but whites cannot support McCain because they identify with him without being accused of racism. I see a bit of a black double standard at play.

Okay, Rowly,
you really do have to give spew alerts to us readers!

the thugs running the unions
these thieves been stealing our dues for years, living big and then telling us what to do.

But what would these thieves do if they actually had to work rather than spend our dues by paying the dems to keep them in power.

Hal Donahue
I did not ask for your imput to my post, but I will answer it. You are an Obama toady who is the laughingstock, along with wobbie,of townhall.

You pretend to know so much, but are so stupid as to spout the Marxists' talking points. How smart is that? Me lying? I can't tell you the lies I have caught you in and ignored them, because of pity for your stupidity. I pity stupidity. Even when it is the 'GREAT HAL'.

You said in another post you "know many Wall St. Execs". Are you a valet? Do they let you park their cars or drive their limos?

You are another afflicted with BDS and cannot see past your hatred. You lie about your record. You are an atheistic,un-American leftist and think if you carry enough water for the 'Great One',he will give you a handout. Fat chance!

BTW,You have LMAO-ed for all the months I have been posting. It must be REAL fat or you would have laughed some of it off by now. Freak!

Race vs. Ideology
I'm sick of the Democrats playing the race card in order to influence the voters. When I cast my vote for McCain in November, it will represent a vote against the socialist ideology that the Democrats are forcing on this country.

No Race, No Socialism, No Obama!

Country First!

McCain/Palin '08/'12
Palin/Steele '12/'16

Those silly Union
members not supporting losing a war, instituting communism, killing children, giving up their second amendment rights

It just has to be race because most patriotic, hardworking, religious Americans would naturally support Obams's policies if he wasn't black.

They are just trying to get their spin out for when they lose the election. And are hoping that if they convince enough voters that they are evil racists if they don't vote for the Marxist baby-killer they will go ahead and vote Obama.

President Bush and Obama

President Bush has done a great job protecting America from terrorists.

President Bush has been an abject failure on spending and fiscal responsibility.

Barack Obama wants to continue the Bush Doctrine of spending and add tax increases to the spending.

McCain and Palin want to bring reform to Washington to try and control spending and pork projects.

I voted for George Bush twice because of his attitude of keeping America safe from terrorism.

Barack Obama will continue the Bush spending NOT John McCain plus McCain will keep America safe.

If you want financial crises and more taxes and continue the Bush spending vote Obama.

If you want the safety for America without the Bush spending vote McCain.

Excuse Me, Mr Rugola
It seems to me, if John McCain is not for working families, neither are union bosses and organizers who appear to live rather well on dues paid by their members. The opposite vote would be worse for blue collar, working families when their taxes are increased, their social security is taxed more than it is today, and taking from the rich (oil companies..who get less money than our Federal Government for a gallon of gas) to help the poor smacks of communism/socialism. Tax levels maintained or lowered would benefit union's membership; payback of the Social Security Fund by all our elected officials would stop the bleeding and borrowing from the fund, primarily accomplished by the Democrats over the years, I believe. Americans are smart, savvy people who threw Republicans out for their mistakes, put Democrats in and only God knows when their mistakes will end, but socialism, taxes and promises that cannot be kept is not the answer, I believe, no matter what color the collar.

Hal Donahue: Politics like baseball ...

And John McCain - to put it bluntly - is MORE American than Barack Hussein Obama.

You are just spouting off Obama talking points and are in the end being used by Obama to sell out your country.

The bottom line is John McCain has served this country AND Barack Hussein Obama has only taken from this country, just like his African Daddy did when he took the FREE education and dumped his son Barack Hussein Obama - the socialist Golden Boy - on America.

Obama hates this country and if you cannot see this you either do not want to OR you hate this country as much as he does.

I suspect that you are a hate America first, last and always creep like most socialist pigs are.

Communist Party USA or Obama?

Theses are some of the planks of the Communist Party USA. Who copied who Obama or the Communists?
------------------------------------------------
Communist Party Immediate Program for the Crisis.

- Labor law reform to remove barriers to workers who want to join a union.
- No privatization of Social Security. Increase benefits.
- Universal prescription drug coverage administered by Medicare. Universal health care system.
- Restore social safety net. Welfare reform that includes job training, supports and living wages.
- Full funding for equal, quality, bi-lingual public education. No vouchers.

Make Corporate Giants Pay
- Repeal tax cuts to the rich and corporations.
- Close corporate tax loopholes.
- Restitution to workers' pensions.
- Strong regulation of financial industry.
- Regulation and public ownership of utilities
- Prosecute corporate polluters. Public works program to clean our air, water and land
- Aid to cities and states. Federally funded infrastructure repair and social service programs.

BUCK UNION LEADERS!
The belief that union members need to vote how they are told is a great example of Democratic Socialist Platform.
American's do not need to be told how to think for themselves. Obama's belief to keep people under his thumb, that he know's what's best, is insulting. He was taught by Saul Alinsky, a leftest radical. Obama follows the philosophy of raising himself up, (at all cost), to deep others down.
I sure hope that the Union Members exercise their right as Americans to vote their conscience.

It's been my experience..
..., having been around union auto workers all of my life, that many white members dislike blacks due to the latter's reported disdain for hard work, chronic complaining, and lack of dependability. As well, white auto workers I know say that a black can be gone for weeks at a time and then show up, punch in and be back on the payroll without questioning. That is at a Chrysler plant in Macomb County, MI.

One man I know well worked 35 years in a GM plant. He'll retire soon and told me that he's moving to Michigan's upper penninsula where there are few blacks. He simply said that he's "had enough of them", that he no longer wants to be around them, and that "they're lazy".

This isn't politically correct, but it also isn't racism. It's consciously choosing to associate with people with shared values to include acting adult in the workplace and working hard. To know that an Obama presidency will (or even might) give them greater latitude to milk the union system just rubs them the wrong way. They also believe that it will further damage the relationship between unions and their employers.

With unions' track record of corruption, I've never understood why anyone would WANT to just hand over their precious vote because the six people who showed up at the meeting say so.

Hal Donahue: Sorry pal...
I believe in country over union and...

Obama is BAD for America.

Barack Obama
has spent the better part of the last two years creating class distinction - pitting citizens against businesses and business owners, all Americans against those Obama has labeled as "rich" those earning over $250k - in some parts of this country a couple earning $250k with 2 or 3 children is not on easy street - not with property tax, some pay city tax, sales tax, etc. - there are couples earning $250k but that could be in areas where the cost of living warrants that type of salary. Making the flat statements Obama makes are simply aimed at getting the bulk of Americans to become annoyed at the smaller group of their fellow citizens - when in reality - it is the business owner, the higher income group that makes jobs, spends money in service establishments, takes trips, purchases goods. Obama is promising more social programs - there simple is no money in the entire world that could support the entitlements Obama is putting forth. In this country - we need to get our federal budget under control - we need to cut out pork barrel spending, earmarks, continue to give tax breaks to businesses that make jobs, and reform, reform, reform - it is sinful that in his two years in Congress Obama is 2nd on the "gimme" list for Fannie and Freddie contributions.

Unions and Race
Nothing like calling your constituents racists. And ignorant, to boot, since they aren't smart enough to know that voting for John McCain is not in their best interest. But, not to fear, the union leadership will "educate" these poor deceived bumpkins so that they will cast their votes for Obama the Messiah who will lead us all to glory. I thought this line was particularly illuminating: "George says that the mind-set of some people in the labor movement regarding race is no different than it is in church groups, or in the Republican Party." So, is Mr. George saying that church groups and the Republican party are all racists? Frankly, the real race-baiters I know are all Democrats.

Post 24 is correcto
"Democrats need to quit whining about everything but their own poor choice in picking a candidate. To put someone with such a background and absolute inexperience as Obama's at the top of the ticket and then claim racism is just the height of moronic stupidity."

Hillary/Obama would have been the strongest ticket. But it's not too late. Obama and the DNC can call for a do-over convention.

Otherwise it's hasta la vista for the Democrats in November.

race or identity politics?
There will likely be some Americans who won't vote for Obama because of his race alone. But it may not necessary be due to racial prejudice or discrimination. Perhaps on a subconscious level, people tend to view others more positively and have a greater sense of affinity for someone who appears to be like them in their appearance, lifestyle and/or culture. Thus, you may likely see a greater number of seniors, suburban housewives, and white blue-collar workers voting for McCain/Palin than for Obama. It kind of explains that saying, "birds of a feather flock together..."

"White folks greed runs ...
a world in need." So wrote the O'Bortion King - Barack Hussein Obama.

By the way ladies, his use of white folks includes you and your children.

Usually black racists attempt to pit the white man and the white woman against eachother by painting the white "man" as the evil force of nature - suppressing everything is sight - including white women.

But in this case Mr. Obama said "white folks" - that must mean white women and their children as well.

Also, in all honesty, who is the biggest sexist in town right now - Obama and his Dem cronies who humiliated Hillary and painted Geraldine Ferraro as a racist - or John McCain who just nominated the first Republican woman as VP of the US?

I told Teamsters to "Stuff it"
I'm currently a Teamster, and work with many AFL-CIO members.

A few weeks ago someone from Teamsters called my home and asked if I'd gotten their mailing - Anti-Bush, Anti McClain, Pro-Obama.

I told them yes and I tossed it. I told them just because I was a member of their union, and not by choice, didn't mean that I was going to support their candidate.

I told them I was voting Republican, so end of conversation, no way was I supporting the "union" pick. And quit calling me.

Found out that many of the AFL-CIO engineers that I work with also don't support Obama.

The Unions can spend all the union dues they want to try to shove Obama down our throats. We can vote for McClain PLUS vote to dump the unions in our state.

I think they know that, so their perceived "memberhip" voting for a certain party is a pipe dream and a media sham.

So far the Teamster agent hasn't followed me into the voting booth.

Union Members in America are fair....
They love their union and all the great wages and benefits. They also love a free America with the many other issues to consider.

Obama received the second highest lobbyist payout from Fannie 300 grand. That is upsetting.

Obama says change is coming, and jumps on Bush's bailout plan.

McCain/Bush say that regulation caused it. Like reintroducing stock mortgages that failed before.

A bill to require sub-prime mortgages or face government intervention.

A union that says no secret ballot.

These are very disturbing facts to an fair American, even in Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvannia.

Sometimes you have to give up to show your prudence to fair. Which has always been a union motto. Fair days wage for fair days work.

His whole stump speech about how they're going to try and scare you... and his funny name... and did you notice he's black ...

That whole speech is race baiting and an attempt to get votes by guilting people into voting for him because he is black.

This is pathetic. He is now sending out his minions to get in the face of others and to badger people into voting for him.

This tactic is a veiled threat tht if he loses there will be violence from his supporters.

Race is their distraction
I think they are playing this card too early. It's a shield to block the accomplishments question. Keep asking what he has accomplished. Show me what he has done in the past to help the people of this country and then I can tell what he can do to help them in the future. We laugh at the community organizer title because we know he didn't make any significant lasting change for people. OBAMA, WHAT HAS HE DONE FOR ANYONE, EVER?

Race again
Well, each election, the Lefties try to make race an issue whether the candidate is black or not. The GOP is just RACIST, according to AP, Yahoo, the DNC, the NYTimes et al. But, odd that AP puts out a poll showing normally Dem voters, as , you guessed it, racist. Now this is silly. 85% of Dems said they would vote for Obama. OK, that leaves the Reagan Dems and of course , Indies to decide the election. It is not race that people look at when they view Obama, it is the fact that he is a socialist pacifist and incompetent in economic and foreign policy questions. The MSM loves to bring up race , for one, get white liberal guilt stirred up and to cow other voters into voting for a race, color, ethnic groups whether the candidate is a boob or not! Vote against Obama because he is bad for America, capitalism, our war against Islamofascism, and our culture ala abortion, capital punishment, and slideing values. If you read between the lines of the Democrats you will see that they are hoping that because Obama is black , his background will be ignored.

Look at how they are treating any black politician caught with their hands in the cookie jar...they are treated like royalty while white Republican politicians are found guilty by the Democrats and the media before they are forced resign. Re; Tom Delay etc.

I see a crooked Democrat Party that has gone too far to turn back into reasonable people with reasonable ideas.

Unions Have Destroyed Themselves
Union workers especially in the auto industry has destroyed themselves through higher pay for no reason but to get higher pay because they think they deserve it. Add the regulations put on by the Democrat sponsored environmentalists and the car prices get higher and higher.

This has happened in every union oriented business in the country.

There are non union businesses that give their employees fair pay, insurance and retirement.

They are not hard to find all you need to do is to be a good hard working employee.

I truly wish
a leader would arise among the African-American community who could view his fellow blacks as brothers and sisters who deserve true respect and who would not use them in such a cynical manner as so many of those within the Dem party have done since the days of MLK. They need to be educated; they need to strengthen their families, their neighborhoods, and so much more. I, too, would happily vote for Michael Steele. He's a good and honest man. Any black who has respect for him should find out how to contact him and get his ideas. I do hope McCain can bring him into his administration. Obama claims to be both white and black. I submit is that he is neither. He's just another Dem slimy snakeoil salesman in a long list.

I am NEA, the teachers' union
whose biggest push now is for k-12 sex ed that includes homosexuality in all grades.

I have to belong so I can still coach, altho' retired, as they *bargain* for me.

But 40% of NEA members are not Dems. And that figure for voting outside the NEA box might be much higher this year, as many I know as retired educators are voting Rep. this election for the first time in their lives, and the reasons are:

O's promise of higher taxes, esp. the cap. gains--he seems to have no idea that nearly 100,000,000 Ams. have involvement in the markets through direct and indirect investment: IRA's, money market funds, etc.;

O's remarks on gun-hugging bitter Bible readers;

O's non experiene in foreign affairs when we are still in a war;

O's record, such as it is, is even more radical than almost all Dems. everywhere.

O's in a dead heat with Mac in NJ, which has a 3-1 Dem. registration. If O isn't 15-20 pts. ahead here, he is in trouble.

The lib. MSM is now harping on racism because they are looking for an excuse for an election defeat. I think that was always the plan: they could bully Am. into voting for a nonentity based on race alone--it was a nonstarter and shows how idiotic both Dems. leadership and the newsy's are.

Working Class
The Democrats have virtually no accomplishments over the past 40 years to improve the economic well being of working middle class Aemricans.

Instead of looking out for workers, today's Democrats are looking out for radicals, misfits, goof offs, Hollywood elites, Move-On-Dot-Org members, and so on. Democrats have forgotten about workers. Their actions (or lack of actions) demonstrate their intentions.

Democrats are creating their list
of excuses for losing by constantly harping on race. I think it is true that some people won't vote for Obama because he's black - just like some of that 90% of the black vote he's expected to get are voting for him because he's black. I wonder why no one seems to have any problem with that.

The Obama campaign played the race card early and often but now they appear upset that people resent their effort to guilt voters into picking an unqualified empty suit. Like children they think "this was our year because you all hate Bush" so if you don't vote for us - you are the problem - not our poor candidate.

polls in PA
Hm, Timothy where is there a poll that shows Obama way up in PA? I sure haven't seen it and being here in PA don't believe it for a minute. On the union vote I know my son who is an union worker in TX has said their union was backing Clinton and most members were in agreement with that, but not so with Obama. A big problem there is the illegals taking their jobs and Obama's views on amnesty, plus his comments regarding small town people, and his associations have kept them from backing him. As far as in PA, I think most are seeing what voting for their unions pick has gotten them. Obama might still win the 7 counties by Philly that he took in the primaries, but I doubt he will take PA from what I see and hear.

I have been a union member for over 50 years. In my area most union members don't attend union meetings,so they don't see or hear the officers that push for the dems.I think it is shameful to put your union or any other organization ahead of your country.

Obama
has been described as postracial and has done more to invoke race, class and/or wealth as divisive issues in this campaign. I will not reward this divisiveness with my vote. My vote will not depend on race or class envy. In my view, Obama has tried his best to negate all of MLK's work to overcome color of skin as an
indicator of a person's value and Americans do not want to go backward in racial/ethnic relations. I want someone with experience, who demonstrates good character, judgement and honesty no matter the outward appearance. As an American, I want someone who loves our nation as much as I do.

Democrats & Unions
It seems funny to me that neither one has figured out that the Government & the unions are the ones mostly responsible for the jobs going overseas.Companies can not compete in this country at $60 per hour, when the same job can be done overseas at $3.00 an hour.

Troubled times? Play it safe!
I cannot imaging putting a young inexperienced intellectual (good at talking; not much record of "doing") into the Presidency in a time of unprecedented financial turmoil and war.

I think Obama is a decent intelligent man, but he's quite far to the Left and I'm terrified he'll surround himself with Far Left advisors (and a very Liberal Senate and Pelosi led House).

Will the Dems help out the Lower Middle Class in the short run? Yeah, they probably will. But IMO the nominal "help" they'll provide will be offset by a huge leap toward european style socialism with terrible consequences for GDP growth, unemployment, etc.

The Union and Independent Vote
While Union members and many independents usually vote Democrat - here is a reason for you to vote for McCain:

Americans love to complain about politicians in office. It's the "American Way". Kind of like being a soldier in the Army.

If he gets elected, we KNOW that McCain is going to tick off every last one of us at some time or other - liberal, conservative or otherwise.

When it happens, you and I will be able to complain to our hearts content and no one will think the worse of us for it.

However,if Obama gets elected and does something you don't agree with - disagree loudly enough and you WILL be branded a racist. Just look at what's going on now and the goober is not even in office. It happens over and over in many places including the place I live.

McCain is not the messiah - just a decent man who has experience and has served us all in a tangible way. Not pefect but muh less troubling than the alternative. No president is going to bring the "hope" and "change" that will bring heaven on earth.

Voting for McCain insures you another 4 years of guilt free griping!!

Pennsylvania!

Myself and fellow PA conservatives are amazed that our state is in play for the GOP. If you consider the lock the Democratic Party has on this state, it's nothing short of astounding!

It can not be overstated and tells much about what's really going on. WHITE WORKING CLASS VOTERS here have not forgotten "Rev" Wright or those remarks made in San Fran. Both Obama mishaps occurred during the PA primary and were, and continue to be, a huge factor.

truth:
I'm not voting for Obama. It's NOT because he's black. It's because he is a far-far-far left, radical, marxist, socialist/communist that is TRYING to pass as a centrist. Any doubts? See for yourself how he has been indoctrinated with and adheres to radical marxist theology:

i didn't make this site, but holy crap is it telling. you must see it if you haven't already

Larry Sabato nails it.
Salena Zito(I really love that name!)has written an article here that touches on what will probably be a critical issue in deciding the election this fall.

There is not much I can add here, except to say Zito's inclusion of Sabato's quotes pretty well reveals the problem for Democrats.

This article, along with some conclusions I had already formed of late, is causing me to think Pennsylvania may be much closer than I had earlier envisioned...that it may be in play for the GOP, a position I would never have thought possible.

Consistent with Zito's theme, there is a revealing article today on Drudge pertaining to an AP/Yahoo News poll of white Democrats.

Card Check Bill
If I was a still in the workforce, I know what would sway my vote in this election - Obama promising to sign a bill (the card check bill) that would deny workers a private ballot when they vote for or against unionizing. McCain opposes it. Workers know what kind of intimidation they would be subjected to, if they didn't vote to unionize. I think if I was asked by someone, I might lie and say I'm not voting for Obama because of race, too. It's safer than than telling the person asking that I'm afraid of union organizer pressure.

Sorry for the multiple
posts. The system is even clunkier than normal today.

pt 2
What the Bradley Effect is is the effect on polls because people are reluctant to answer questions by pollsters that may make them appear to be racists (besides being another liberal press coined term). In other words, in the aforementioned race between Sowell and McCain assume the pollster is questioning a member of the liberal wing of the party about his preferences. Although he can not stand Sowell because he is conservative and he intends to vote for McLame because he is a liberal RINO, he tells the pollster he is for Sowell because he doesn’t want to appear racist. But when he gets in the booth and draws the curtain where no one can see him, he pulls the leaver for the RINO.

The Democraps own pollsters say that in some of these States the effect may be as wide as 10 points. If this is true, then get ready for a landslide for McLame and if that happens all of this race posturing by AP and others in the far left press is just going to stir the pot even more.

So why are they doing this now? Two reasons; first it is in their interests to create controversy to sell news. Second, they think that a significant portion of the white liberals will be even further influenced to vote for the “articulate one” through a feeling of “guilt”.

Read the Party Platforms
Out of touch. . .Democrats are out of touch with the American citizens who work hard each and every day, only to see more and more of their hard-earned money going to fuel a government that can't even effectively manage itself.

Give the American citizens credit--we can read, and smart people go to the trouble to at least familiarize themselves with the platforms of both the Democratic and Republican parties.

We vote on which party platform reflects our true values. Just read the platforms for yourself:
Republican Platform, 2008: http://www.gop.com/2008Platform
Dem Platform, 2008: http://www.democrats.org/a/party/platform.html

Read and compare the platforms for yourself. It's NOT about race.
M. Doorstop

Race
Yes race is an issue in this election and has been so since the very beginning. That being said, it is not the issue that this column makes it out to be or that the so-called AP poll makes it out to be,

The fact is, as Geraldine Ferraro said months ago, if O’Bambi had not been black he would never have been nominated to begin with. The press anointed him with being “articulate” while at the same time his running mate gave him the “clean and articulate” label. The Soros financed nutroots crowd pushed him for the same reason they pushed Lieberman’s opponent, he was and is an anti-American; anti-war far left liberal.

And now the press is screaming about not voting and the “Bradley effect”. Folks, the Bradley Effect is NOT people who will vote based on color. In this day and age almost all people vote based on perceived ideology and not race. If the Republican primaries had boiled down to a contest between McLame and Thomas Sowell, Sowell would have won in a landslide, and this is those supposedly racist Nixon strategy conservatives!

Greatest Threats to America
The greatest threats to America are not the Islamists at this stage, it's:

# 1 - Democrat Party
# 2 - Failed Education
# 3 - Trial Lawyers
# 4 - Illegal Immigration
# 5 - Political "Correctness"

It's time for a no-nonsense approach and Sarah Palin seems to be THE ticket for our future.

Term Limits for Congress would indeed be the best way to start!

Race is NOT a Factor
No matter how you try to spin this, "Race" is definitely not a factor, perhaps less than 1% of whites would care about Oblahma's "race" (1/2 White, 3/8 Arab, 1/8 Black)- on the other hand, 97% of Blacks DO SEEM TO "CARE"...7 Years in Brazil : NO NAACP, NO Black Caucus, NO "affirmative action", NO Black churches and the list goes on. You go to Church by religion and then you encounter a rainbow of colors and races...What I like best is their Mainstream Media, they never, ever, badmouth Brazil.

Insulting our Intelligence
Is what Dems are doing in their quasi total desperation. Union members know darn well that it's high taxes and excessive regulation that causes the flight of companies to less hostile environments.
We moved our farming operations to Brazil 7 years ago as it was either go out of business or move for us. Originally our intent was to bring the products into the US. Well, we have found out that we don't need this market as we have a vibrant and growing economy in Brazil and we do better by selling our products there.
You can blame our many alphabet soup bureaucrats for this.

Race is an issue?
The only issue about race is the one coming from the Dems. They keep saying it's there but where? They're make this up out of thin air and I AM OFFENDED BY THAT - I AM NOT A RACIST and am sick of hearing that whine.

THE SIGN SAYS WORKING FAMILIES FOR OBAMA. YES, ABSOLUTELY. IF OBAMA WINS YOU'LL BE WORKING NO ONE ELSE BUT OBAMA - ALL YOUR INCOME WILL GO TO HIM. The sign should say Families Working for Obama!

I'm voting for decent folks - McCain and Palin who those slime bucket Dems aren't decent enough to clean their shoes.

It's NOT racial.......
Even though everyone tries to make it seem so. I guess what they're attempting to do is shame us into voting for Obama just to show we're NOT prejudiced. How stupid can they get?

Obama has insulted the working class people, both white AND black. He's told us that he's raising taxes and that it's patriotic to pay them. Obama has foot-in-mouth disease when it comes to the working class, even though it's this same group that everyone claims is prejudiced.

Do you really think people are so stupid as to not see the Black Liberation Theology for what it is? Or that William Ayers isn't very patriotic? Or that more taxes will hurt the very companies that employ these working-class people?

Obama has more reasons to NOT vote for him than he does reasons to vote for him. To say that it's race alone is belittling the American people and it needs to stop.

Democrats need to quit whining about everything but their own poor choice in picking a candidate. To put someone with such a background and absolute inexperience as Obama's at the top of the ticket and then claim racism is just the height of moronic stupidity.

race and votes
I'll bet you if Obama was a gun lover and belonged to a conservative church (not a "liberation" outfit), and was against abortion, he would get a lot of blue collar votes as well as others. These factors along with his elite Hollywood image, and not his race, turn off people. They can't relate to him. They can relate to McCain. Race probably will work a lot more for him than against him. Nevertheless, we'll all be accused of being a bunch of racists if he doesn't win, while the truth is that he is simply a tired out-of-date orthodox liberal like Dukakis, Mondale, Gore, and Kerry. And so the self-delusion of the Democrats will continue, to the delight of the Republicans who will keep getting away with murder. Hey Democrats! Remember Bubba Bill? He won two elections. He was smart.

Socialist Sweeney/BitterFitter 2:22
Union members do have rights about directing the use of their dues for political activities.

Google "union dues Beck" and find out what you can do in your state.

Your union should have told you about your options, but I'm betting the information is buried deep.

I believe...
The McCain campaign would have a strong argument to start pointing out how Democrats try to "divide and conquer" the American people. That is, literally, what they do. Democrats divide us into groups, to which they can sell one plank of their platform, while trying to get us to ignore another plank. They try to sell Democrats' support of unions to union members, while trying to get the vast majority of those same union members to forget about, or ignore, the Democrats' stand against unborn children or for higher taxes and redistribution of wealth. They divide us into blacks, whites, hispanics, working-class, middle class, rich, poor, educated, uneducated, women, men. They do so because they cannot sell their entire platform to anyone except the most left, liberal people, and there aren't enough of those people in this country to elect a President. On the other hand, the Republican platform works, as a whole, for a majority of Americans, many of whom, were they not being divided by the Dems, would vote Republican. Republicans need to get out the message that we should not allow the Democrats to slice us into constituency groups. We are, in fact, all Americans, and we must not ignore the parts of the Democratic platform with which we do not agree, simply to advance our own causes.

Race and the Union Vote
This article is pretty much right on. My big problem with unions is the self serving teachers union which is largely responsible for the lousey public education system. The agendas of the teachers, their poltical bias and closed minds is dragging our country down. Union members need to start thinking of themselves outside of the unions in political matters. We don't need union leaders being petty dictators telling people how to vote. The democrat party needs a good strong enema to cleanse itself of the radical left nuts. Go Sarah Palin and be an inspiration to millions of school girls. Caio!

Unfounded Loyalty
"George says that the mind-set of some people in the labor movement regarding race is no different than it is in church groups, or in the Republican Party."

Welll, is that so. I suppose he's thinking of "white" churches. And, now we can add "racist" to "pushing Granny out of the rocking chair." How ignorant.

If race is such a factor, then the book "Unfounded Loyalty" by Wayne Perryman should be required high school reading. Mr. Perryman is black, and his books explain how Democrats have historically used black people for their vote.

http://wayneperryman.com/

It's not about race...
This is the 21st century, very few white people that I know vote race(not so for the 98% of blacks behind Obama). This is a red herring, Obama is a Marxist/radical at heart, though he is good at hiding it through is charismatic presence and slick ioratory skills. Anyone whom reads his early books or researches his past can come away with no other conclusion. His whole political career he has been surrounded by radicals, racists and anarchists. He refused to salute the flag during the national anthem(seen on youtube)and refused to wear a flag lapel pin...oh, until he became a presidential nominee.
He claims to be a Christian but supports the gay lifestyle and abortion. His comments caught on tape and off the cuff regarding the tenedncy of rural middle calss to "Cling to religion and guns" out of a bitterness and xenophobia gives us a glimpse of the real Obama.
I have been a union man all my life but could NEVER vote Obama. There are more urgent issues, such as the survival of our Democracy and constitution which supercedes all others.

Race and the Union Vote
People who are union members are no different than those of us who are not. They work hard, try to do the best for their families, and care tremendously for their country. Many of them have served the United States honorably as members of the military, and find it tought to relate to someone like Obama who has worked for the government in one capacity or another, but has never really served the country. There is a difference. Whoever is going to get elected to the Presidency this year will have to earn the trust of the voters. It is about character and sacrifice, not race. Which candidate has really learned what serving the country means vs. having just shown up everyday? We need a leader, not someone who pretends to be one. Don't think union members will mindlessly follow someone who is untested. Give them more credit than that.
