Can McCain really win Pennsylvania?

Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

The intelligent question thrown out among strategists for both campaigns is, can John McCain really win Pennsylvania?

Really win it, not pretend to go for it, as Republicans did in 2004, all the while closing the deal in Ohio when no one was looking.

The last Republican presidential candidate to win Pennsylvania was George H.W. Bush, in 1988 -- a win preceded by two Reagans but followed by two Clintons, a Gore and a Kerry. The Kerry win was narrower than the others, however.

Since this year’s Pennsylvania primaries, many people have been schooled on the mechanics of how Democrats win this state. Call it the “Rendell rule”: Stack up high numbers in the Philly collar counties, hold the losses to a minimum in the other 60, and try to win Allegheny for good measure.

Can Barack Obama pull off a Rendell?

Villanova University political science professor Bob Maranto says political undercurrents are playing against him. “This is an old state, demographically, and some older white voters will be reluctant to vote for a black candidate,” he explains, “but there is something more at work. Even if they call themselves independents, most voters more or less automatically vote either Democratic or Republican.”

Maranto calculates that the 20 percent or so of voters who really are up for grabs will use information about a candidate's background to make assumptions about his policy views.

Pennsylvanians don’t see McCain in the “failed Bush policies” category by which Democrats try to define him. Instead, they see a war hero, a brand that resonates in the blue-collar areas where their unions are trying to persuade them otherwise.

“He is a guy you can depend on,” said Tom Miller, 54, of Lancaster, a registered Democrat who is very comfortable voting for McCain. “He has had no problem bucking his own party and he does not ask me to make sacrifices that he isn’t willing to make.”

Add the stereotypes that some voters hold about black candidates and Obama dilutes the Rendell rule.

So, where can McCain offset traditional Democrat voting blocs?

In Allegheny, Bucks and Chester counties, where a large number of those voters live.

To win Allegheny, McCain must win the entire South Hills area minus Mt. Lebanon. He also must win the new suburban areas around the airport, as well as the Mon Valley, where poorer working white voters live. He can easily sweep the North Hills as well as the small river towns.

Achieve that, and McCain offsets Pittsburgh’s black and elite-liberal numbers.

McCain also must win Bucks County, where he should have Sarah Palin establish residency in the large churches in the northern half while he camps out in southern Bucks.

Chester County will be the hardest. McCain won’t win West Chester, but the rest of the county -- a one-time Republican stronghold -- is persuadable.

All three counties have healthy-sized veterans populaces, with lots of socially conservative labor-Catholic Democrats -- all voters that professor Maranto views as weaknesses for Obama.

Democrat analyst Larry Ceisler admits problems exist for Obama in counties like Washington, Beaver and Fayette, but he is not quite sold on the idea that McCain can win Allegheny, Chester and Bucks.

The unknown factor in Obama's favor is the latest statewide voter-registration number. Obama state director Craig Schirmer issued a statement last week touting 1 million-plus more registered Democrats than Republicans, double the lead of 2004.

Perhaps the bigger argument is that if McCain is posting Bush 2004 poll numbers in Pennsylvania in the waning days of this election, it indicates that Ohio, Indiana and Michigan are already lost to Obama. Pennsylvania is just that small percentage point more Democrat than her Rust-Belt sisters.

University of Virginia political science professor Larry Sabato says his tentative conclusion is that McCain should not allow the money to run in Pennsylvania unless he has unlimited resources, and instead should look west. His argument: If McCain is close in Pennsylvania, then he already is well above 300 Electoral College votes and won’t need it to win.

Yes, After the Full Biden Story From the Beginning of his US Senate Trail & Close Family PAYDAY's - Not So Clean, When You Step Back & Look. !!!!

2% Versus 13%

Currently, Obama holds a slim 2% advantage based on RealClearPolitics tracking poll in PA.

Hillary beat Obama by 13% in the DNC primary.

A McCain victory would only require a small percentage of Hillary voters & Reagan democrats to vote McCain....

.... you know... just some of those bitter small-town folks that cling to guns and religion to reject Obama.

The question is not CAN McCain win... but by HOW MUCH.

Biden's son lobbying work
Biden's son lobbying work Only a Third of the Money Trail to Pennsylvania!!!!

Michael, get some perspective
Obama started the mockery when he called Governor Palin "a small town mayor of about 8000 people'. Couple these remarks with 'bitter and frustrated small town people who cling to guns and religion'. Couple these remarks with 'typical white person who is uncomfortable when dealing with people who are different'. Obama is the one who has mocked ALL american values. Including insulting people who wear lapelle pins as 'false patritism'. He could have just said 'no I don't wear a lapelle pin as a matter of preference'. But no, he had to insult those who actually wear them. Mockery is not enough for Obama. He was called out for exactly what he is i.e. a non-accomplished senator who has written two biographies (all about him) and never one legislative bill in 15 years as a senator in IL and US Senate. BTW - what is a community organizer and where does one apply?

What exactly was Obama's Contribution?
This is the second time you've made the statement about Barry's family values. Could you elaborate and give concrete examples of such?

Michael - are you serious??

You wrote of Obama, " He's stuck to his word.."

Gee - I seem to recall Obama VOWING to filibuster FISA ... and then voted for it.

I seem to remember Obama PROMISING to work with the Republican nominee to run the campaign with public financing. And THEN refused.

Are you so impressed with the SAME Obama that declared to a CBN reporter that folks were "lying" about his opposition to Born Alive Legislation. And oddly his campaign later had to retract those statements when it was PROVEN Obama DID vote against the EXACT SAME BILL as was passed by Congress.

Is Obama so "honest" that when he was asked about a political survey where he supported gun control... but later blamed an "aide" for filing out the form?

Obama is slicker than an eel soaked in vaseline - but you keep on extolling his honesty.

(eyes rolling)

The reality
This article is realistic and right on the mark. Clearly the numbers in PA are close, but a number of other states are close to equally as close including Wisconson, Washington State, New Mexico, Colorado, Michigan, and even New Jersey!!!. If McCain takes PA he may very well also be sweeping through Wisconson and NJ as well.

Since this article is about strategy, we have to look at prioritizing. The first step has to be the lock down the states beginning to lean McCain, Florida, Virginia and of course Ohio.
Than go after the great lakes with Michigan and Wisconson as well as Colorado, New Mexico. After that goes PA. If McCain is trending up by even 3% in PA by election day the race is a blowout. If he is down 3% he has to lock down the other states.

My prediction though is that McCain takes Chester County. Just a hunch, but the last time I was out there I saw more support then I expected. Fuel prices have really got them rattled.

Catherine, Are “Comfort Rooms” a family
...value?

Obama’s “Comfort Rooms.”

Where born alive babies, not fetuses, as B. Hussein referred to them (by definition of law; “Life begins, when a fetus attains a state of viability outside the womb) should, in his opinion, be sent to die. “Comfort” for whom, Mr. Obama?

Make no mistake; B. Hussein qualified his position when discussing the Born Alive legislation, which he vetoed on three separate occasions. Obama speaking, “I think it’s important to understand that this issue ultimately is about abortion and not live births.”

Apparently, he didn't want people getting sidetracked, or muddying up their thinking about thoose inconvenient babies that refused to die.

Although this may be an Obama family value, it's not exactly the sort of thing one would describe as "A family value one can live with."

Catherine, Should have addressed Michael
with my previous inquiry. Sorry...

OBAMA CAN'T WIN PENNSYLVANIA
I wake up Sunday morning and that's when I usually read Selena Zito's column. I'm also in that Western Pennsylvania area that includes Allegheny County (Steeler Country). I have put 5 posts on this web site over the last 6 or 7 weeks saying Obama can't win Pennsylvania. I have to disagree with Selena when she starts out a paragraph detailing what McCain has to do to win Allegheny County, and Pennyslvania.

The "Rendell Rule" she gives is how Democrats win in Pennsylvania not how Republicans win here. Bush (41) never won Allegheny County nor did Rick Santorumn but they won Pennsylvania.

THE VOTE FOR THE DEMOCRAT WAS SUPPRESSED IN THOSE ELECTIONS. The rule of thumb in the Bush (41) and Santorumn wins was that no Democrat can win state wide unless they come out of Western Pennsylvania with at least a 200,000 vote lead. Obama will never reach that figure. Maybe the numbers have changed but not the theory. That's been proven over and over again during the last one hundred years.

Obama is not playing well in Western Pennsylvania with older residents as stated in the article. Rank and file union members have never jumped on his band wagon. Just yesterday the Zogby Poll moved PA from the Obama column to undecided. He's in free fall here. Maybe people are starting to pay attention and maybe their starting to tell the truth to the pollsters.

Hey Michael:
Family Guy: Obama
With Obama I've seen solid family values. He's stuck to his word on keeping this campaign as clean. While McCain and his campaign have gone off the rails with their sinful deceit, they really lost me when they openly mocked Obama's contribution the community he called home.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
Clean campaign? Really? Why don't you read the article on here by A. Carpenter, explaining what just happened with the leadership in the Palin "investigation". If you don't think Barry was behind or at LEAST involved in that most recent corruption, then you really are too hopeful for us.
Also, I JUST watched a video from CNN (on youtube) talking briefly about the way he knocked off his 2 possible opponents in his (first?) senate campaign in Chicago. This man is as filthy as they come. If he's already this good at 47, can you imagine what he'll have fineagled by the time he's 60? Yikes.
Michael
you say Obama is also a man of honor - on what basis do you make that assumption?
What does it matter if Obama....
understands the complexity of the problems America faces if his basic core is messed up.
Obama had no problem with born alive babies waiting to die with no medical treatment.
Obama had no problem leaving hundreds of thousands of kurds to get gassed to death by Saddam. Which would have happened a second time in 2003 since the no fly zones were going away and Saddam still had access to chemicals like mustard gas or dual use civilian chemicals he could dump on them. A citizen who owes his freedom in the US to 2% of the population dying for his freedom between 1861-1865, should care more about the people that don't have the voice to survive like the Kurds and aborted fetuses in this country. No amount of community service can make up for a bad core, and the executive experience a community organizer would bring can be no better than my asst. manager experience at baskin Robbins 20 year ago. Finally, Biden, what the heck is a pro choice catholic? There's no time off when being catholic between business and personal life. A life is either respected or it's not, and a person that can never receive communion because he is not right with the lord on life must only be considered a catholic for political reasons then.
Michael
You wrote, "I was very impressed with Obama at Saddleback."
Was that BEFORE or AFTER Obama responded to the CBN reporter asking him about his stand on Born-Alive Legislation - where Obama called conservatives "Liars"?
Later, his campaign corrected the record and admitted the Born-Alive Legislation DID mirror the federal bill.
Or were you so impressed with Obama's reply to "a baby's human rights" as being above his paygrade?
Oh Oh it HAD to be where Obama said Evil had to be "confronted" as though it were an annoying neighbor playing their music too loud.
I wonder - did you turn off your TV after Obama existed? McCain was AMAZINGLY much better.
JD2008, Johnny & Dan
I respect Obama's point of view with regard to pro-choice. I don't agree with it. The Supreme Court have made their decision. I respect that too. This matter isn't a holy war for me, unlike it clearly is for some other Republicans.
I have a different point of view on the matter and I'm free to exercise it.
As for Iraq, Obama did also state he recognized Saddam was a bad man. He was against the Iraq war because Bin Laden hadn't been caught, the terrorists hadn't been dealt with, and the evidence was suspect.
As for how I "assume" Obama is an honorable man... well why don't you ask JD2008 how he assumes he has a "bad core".
Michael, Why Do Muslims
consider Baraka Hussein Obama a Muslim? It's because he was born a Muslim and that means he will always be a Muslim in their eyes. He has Muslim names and even said he was a Muslim to George Stephanopoulos. Why lie?
Nobama
There are many,many questions about Obama's background that need to be answered. Why did he stay in a church for 20 years that was preaching hatred toward America? I'm sure everyones familiar with his pastors remark "God Damn America" His relationship with Rezko the convicted felon also sounds alarm bells, but perhaps most troubling was his relationship with William Ayers, leader of the notorious "weather underground" this group bombed Government buildings, robbed banks and had plans to bomb the Pentagon, yet Obama thought it was ok to associate with him on several projects. I'm sorry but for me there is way to much in his background.He shouldn't even be a nominee.
Re: Louiselouise
I agree with your analysis, especially with regard to BHO's statement to Stephanopoulos. I have a Ph.D. in linguistics and words like 'here', 'there', 'my', 'your', etc. are called deictic words. Deictic words are defined by situations: 'I' means one thing when I say it and another when you say it.
They are also hard to acquire -- anyone with small kids know how hard it is for them to learn them; also how many of us who have ever been abroad have noticed compatriots say 'here' in a foreign country and mean America (it's like we carry our country around with us in our head).
Sorry for the preamble, but the fact that BHO said 'my Muslim faith' is a powerful example of this. If you're a Christian, you could never expect yourself to ever say such a thing. It's as unlikely as saying 'my Martian forebears' or some other such false statement.
As a linguist, I was blown away by this 'mistake' (that never even got corrected by BHO, but by GS).
I explained why he has a bad core
He spent 20 years in a church that catered to only one group of people, and that same group of people owes it's freedom to people that made the ultimate sacrifice for them. When it's time to turn around and do the same for the next group of people that have no power or voice like trhe Kurds or the alive but not yet born, Obama leads his party and his race by over whelming majorities to not help them. No one Obama is advocating for in this election has suffered at the rate of the Kurds, and the unborn, in the past.
His ideas are all theory with no practical application, such as an energy plan where 10 dollar a gallon gasoline is more agreeable to him than using fossil fuels. we already know he's willing to sacrifice whole groups of people because they don't fit in his world view, so whats to stop him from playing ivory tower president for the next 4 years because the professor/senator is so in love with his own theories.
Bad Company corrupts good character
A HUGE RED FLAG for me is the mainstream (biased)media has been eerily silent on the likes of Obama's past associations, which in reality help to show who this guy is in an existential way. The fact that Paster Jerimiah Wright (G** D**n AmeriKa!), the creepy Tony Rezco(unethical personal land deals), Bomber 60s radical William Ayers(friend and fellow staffer), Saul Alinsky rules for radicals(Guru)---all this stuff is out there and is BEING IGNORED, I believe, on purpose. This is spooky and shameful. The American Right should boycot the MSM...stick to Fox news and other media outlets. God help us.
Theory of Barry's Fear
I believe Obama is afraid to take McCain's Townhall challenge because his past associations are more likely to "come out of the closet" for all to see with wonder and shock. This garbage about him not speaking well on his feet is a bunch of Horse Puckey! Geez, the guy is an Ivy League trained Orator! (I agree he could use some remedial training to stop with all those....uhs....).If he REALLY wants his "change" msg out there he would jump at the chance to become known even more. (RED FLAG) This logic does not pass the smell check for me. It's as if he's trying to hide stuff (and I believe he is) He knows the "debate format" with the MSM in his pocket won't bring up his past associations, so he can rest on his laurels. He OWES it to the American people to COME CLEAN about these past associations.....If he had any real courage!!!
Fork Tongue
Fork Tongue Oblahma-Bin-Biden - he has been "against" and "supported" diametrically opposed sides of every major issue. This denotes very poor "judgement" (if you can call it that) on his part and it reminds one of someone trying to sit on two chairs simultaneously, result: fanny hits floor!
fallout from reaction to Palin will stay
With only six weeks left before the election, the question is whether Obama can turn it around.
Peggy Noonan has a good article cautioning the GOP not to become overly confident...that there is still a long way to go before the election.
I usually agree with Noonan.
Of course she is correct that too much confidence is a prescription for disaster.
But something extraordinary is happening here.
The reaction of the Obama camp, Democratic party and mainstream media to Palin is going to be a big factor in the election.
Democrats and the complicit media could not have handled the Palin selection any worse, even if they had tried.
And the fallout from that will permeate the political landscape all the way to November.
Obama and Biden's only chance to possibly turn this thing around will be the debates, where tens of millions of Americans tune in.
McCain and Palin would have to stumble badly on the debates.
And I don't see that happening.
On Zito's piece, I would be surprised if McCain won Pennsylvania.
But it won't matter.
He'll get more than enough electoral votes without it.
Michael
You don't think this man's (Obama's) associations say anything about his core values? Would you extend that same standard to teaching your kids how to choose their friends wisely?
Taking to heart Saul Alinsky's communism, as well as his "Rules for Radicals".
A self-avowed and unrepentant US terrorist not only being his friend, but actually HOSTING the event that got Obama on the campaign trail to the Presidency. Not to mention that community board they both served on.
A shady moneyman who is believed to have connections to the Middle East, helping him buy his mansion.
A wife who exhorts graduating students to aim for community service rather than serving through the "corporate culture". And who is none too proud of her country absent her husband's elevation to the Democratic nominee. Who thinks America is a "mean" country, in spite of the many and obvious blessings she enjoys. Further, she tells us that Obama won't 'allow' us to "sit around and not be involved" in our communities-as if that were his prerogative. I guess to you that means Hitler Youth was also a good idea.
Ah yes, and the Right Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who embraces and promotes Liberation Theology and thinks America ought to be damned for its flaws, past and present. Of course you believe it when Obama says he never heard any of that kind of stuff while he was in the pew. That's some piece of work, there.
He has the support of Hamas.
You are of course welcome to your own opinion. But not so much your own facts.
Michael are you on Ovomits payroll?
Good grief man open your eyes to the corrupted values that Ovomit declares as his own.
He wants to steal from the rich and give to the poor..(Robin Hood syndrome)
He wants newly born American citizens to die without medical treatment
He wants to bail out of dangerous hot spots where insurgents plotted and executed a plan that killed 3,000 people in NYC on 9-11
He wants to meet without preset conditions with that nutcase in Iran who would like nothing better than release nuclear destruction on Israel and the USA
He wants to indoctrinate our kids ages 0-12th grade into his marxist ways and take parental control away.
Keep those blinders on Michael and enjoy being on OVomits payroll case your job will be over on Nov.5th
Confusing part
There's a confusing sentence in this article:
"...Ohio, Indiana and Michigan are already lost to Obama. "
This could mean (a) lost by McCain to Obama, who wins them, or (b) lost to Obama because McCain wins them.
The author apparently means the second of the two, but it takes a few seconds of re-reading to figure that out.
I think McCain can take Pa.
Zogby has McCain ahead in Pennsylvania as of 9-13-08. My brother who voted for Kerry and Hillary is voting for McCain. My in-laws who are old time Democrats are voting for McCain this time around. They just don't trust Obama
Back to the topic
McCain will will PA only if the normal corrupt vote-stealing and buying machine in Philadelphia decides that Hillary was shafted and stays home. Otherwise, it will be election theft as usual. OF course, the Attorney General of the State and US could step in and get the voter rolls purged and enforce the laws so that Republican poll monitors aren't run off, but they never have the guts to do anything about it. Rendell is a criminal.
PA native.
Another thing I've noticed in my area,
which is an old steel town in Western Pennsylvania. I don't see any Obama signs around, I'm sure I remember in 2004 Kerry signs all over the place. My point is that there doesn't seem to the enthusiasim among democrats there was 4 years ago when John Kerry ran. Maybe its to early yet will have to watch to see if this changes.
Overlooking a key demographic
Zito forgot to mention that PA's deceased tend to overwhelmingly vote democrat.
She also failed to factor in the influence of the Pennsylvania mafia errrrr I mean labor unions.
ARE ALL THE VOTERS
in Pennsylvania in Philadelphia? And don't they remember Benjamin Franklin?
Guess so and guess not.
How sad for the traditional (bitter) 'gun toting, bible thumping' true Americans who live in Pennsylvania.
pittsburgh
People in allegheny county have much more in common with persons from weirton wva and cleveland ohio then with philadelphia. Yet allegheny county and its democratic machine continously votes along with the philadelphia machine from which philadelphia propers and pittsburgh becomes poorer, losing population and jobs while philadelphia area increases its population and workforce. Philadephia gets the lion share of collected taxes because of its powerful represenation in harrisburg while pittsburgh declines in population and influence. The only thing that will save pittsburgh from declining to the point where cities as el psao texas have a bigger and more robust standard of living is a complete rejection of the democratic party which its citizens have been faithful too for close to a century. The democratic party today is not the party of their fathers and grandfathers, and until they realize that fact, the city will continue to ship its tax money and power to philadephia.
No, they're not all in Philly, but
great-great grandfather still gets to vote there. Philly is probably second to Chicago for fraud. Voter photo IDs would kill it.
Ambrose, the machine in Pgh. is tough to buck. We used to keep our kids here, but now they go elsewhere for jobs due to the short-sightedness of the Dems. One-party corrupt cronyism rule since the 30s has killed us.
Did you know that in western PA, there are manufacturers looking for skilled labor in order to expand? I know them, and was present when they asked PA officials to put ads in Detroit papers asking the skilled to come home.
How Dumb Are Pennsylvanians?
I think a better question to ask is, just how dumb are voters in PA?
Are they stupid enuf to vote for more of the same when it comes to the economy -- more failed, "trickle-down" economics? More jobs sent overseas? Lower wages for the few jobs left?
Dumb enuf to allow the treasury to continue to be raped to pay for the War for Corporate Welfare in Iraq? -- just charge it, to Communist China's credit card, please -- the kids and grandkids will pay the bill!
Dumb enuf to keep the same con artists in charge at the WH? -- the same ones who wave the flag the hardest, while they're picking voters' pockets for their own greed?
Obama has faith that Americans are smarter than Karl Rove's Ministry of Propaganda thinks they are. For the Constitution's sake, I hope he's right.
No Third Term for Cheney/Bush!! NoMama! GoBama!!
In McCain's favor
is the Big O's sneering that PA'ers are bitter gun-toting Bible huggers.
I think that finishes PA for the Great O. Period.
Yes, McCain is very much in play in NJ, which hasn't gone Rep. since Reagan--because the working class in the N. counties can out-vote Jersey City and Newark when push comes to shove. The S. is solidly Rep. to start.
Mons. ago a former colleague and NEA'er told me Dems. in NJ meant to work hard for local tickets and skip pushing O.
Rep. candidates are now running on/with McCain, but Dem. candidates are often keeping their distance from the nat. ticket. Not a good sign.
ImprisonKarlRove Get a GRIP
ImprisonKarlRove, The voters, not just in PA but all across the country, are proving that they're smart enough to reject a slick-talking do-nothing, one-term liberal Senator from Illinois. Obama should be far ahead all across the country, but he isn't. Why? It's not hard to figure out. If you can't then who's the dumb one here?
You'd have to be REALLY DUMB to subscribe to your partisan world view. We have a 13 trillion dollar world economy, and it's a lot more complicated than you apparently realize. But like most lazy thinkers like you it's so much easier to "Blame Bush-Cheney."
Don't blame your party's free-falling, no real message, same ol more-of-the-same liberal tax and spend ticket on "Dumb Voters in PA."
Michael.."No Obama Signs"...
The same issue in Michigan. Obama signs are few and far between, particularly in the Reagan-Democrat area North of Detroit. Kerry/Cheater signs were, like you say, everywhere (like dandelions) in 2004.
Obama is pouring advertising cash across Michigan, whereas Kerry didn't need to spend a dime.
Problem is, the advertising is backfiring. People here as sick of hearing about Obama. They feel as though the guy has already served enough 'time in their face'...
We've seen more of Obama in the past year than we saw of Bush in both terms.
Overkill has killed Obama.
Paying Attention
The debates will mean a lot to undecided voters - McCain speaks from his gut, using his years of experience and the thought process he has had to use over and over again when determining his country's stance on every single issue important to Americans. He does not have to think about his positions - he knows them cold.
Obama's can not use his gut - that would be too revealing - his candidacy is very troublesome - his past associations are mostly extreme (to say the least) people - one has to wonder - it is not only Wright connect that dot to Farrakhan, Ayers that is a long time relationship that connects to a significant list of other names,Rezko - the Rezko link leads to still many other people and on and on. Guilt by association, association, association, association, and association, etc. on and on - well yes - considering the scope of this sea of questionable indivduals.
ImprisonK.
You obviously don't know us in Pennsylvania..We have alot union people and an older population. I don't think these people are going to vote for an elitist like Obama. My brother is a strong union guy and won't vote for him..As bad as this might sound alot of people won't vote for an very liberal African American either, by this I'm talking about older folks.
Bradley factor
It's real. Many union democrats are reluctant to admit they are not voting for Obama. You never know who is on the other end of that phone line.
My son lives in Pa. and during the primary I called him. Why are you guys in Pa. old, angry, gun toten, clinging to religion nuts ?
He said we may be all that. But we're not dumb enough to vote for Obama.
Watching the polls I have switched to checking the individual states. There is clearly a swing to the Mccain/Palin ticket. Even in the blue states where Obama was 20% ahead. The lead in most cases is now down to 2-3%. Disastrous for Obama.
Looking at the national polls you might think this going to be a close election. Not so. Mccain/Palin have moved ahead in the Electoral college.
It will be a landslide. Mccain/Palin 317 to Obama/Biden 221.
This would have been closer before Palin. I still believe Mccain would have won without Palin. America just hasn't moved far enough to the left to elect someone with Obama's questionable background and liberal voting record.
But with Palin. It's icing on the cake.
Morning in Pennsylvania
It is morning in Pennsylvania. We have been accused of being small minded bigots by the effiminate and elite demoncrats. Maybe we are since we are obviously not all blinded by the audacity of hype the obaminator wants to pass along as "vision". It is morning in Pennsylvania just like it is beginning to be morning all across America. We are tired of being talked down to by people like Barry and Joe. Working people are not going to be fooled by the demoncrats this time. McCain/Palin 2008
imprisonkarlrove
I find it humorous when liberals such as you comment on Townhall, especially with your ridiculous pseudonym, and believe you will sway anybody. I have found many from the left who comment here to make good points and lend to the issues. What does Karl Rove have to do with McCain winning Pennsylvania? Why waste your time on Townhall when you can preach to the choir at the daily Kos.
Your comment says you are from Texas. Would it be the People’s Republic of Austin?
Can McCain win anything?
The shocker of this election will be if McCain actually wins anything. The past eight years of wasteful spending , police state tactics, and nation building will result in nothing less than a revolution. ...........
http://thefiresidepost.com/2008/09/14/americans-want-a-revo lution-2008/
Go McCain
Anything is possible. Stay on message and hope for the best. It amazes me that Obama can totally belittle the hard working people in PA and expect that they will come out and vote for him. Come on PA and do the right thing for this country. Now if he could just convince the great people of Michigan.
Axelrod under the bus
It's his first time on the national stage. Probably will be his last.
They are making bets in Vegas on how much longer for Axelrod.
Ohg Rea Tone?
Kind of a senseless comment.
Are you part of the planet Earth, or just Peter-Pan sitting in a tree, observing from afar?
Town v. Gown
This is the most open battle between Town & Gown that I have seen since the Original Sixties, and I am enjoying it.
As happened back then, the MSM have seized upon the small, loudmouthed cadre of Bratz and mistaken them for the whole demographic.
My nieces and nephews are in that cadre, and they and their friends are marrying young, having large families young, buying homes and settling into good jobs -- determined to turn their backs on the hippie values that by and large made their lives difficult and unpleasant. Like the people of PA they *cling to their guns and religion* but their friends include many people not like them in looks or background but like them in values...and that is what, as it did in the Sixties, the MSM overlooks.
The average age in the USA is now 40. Not 14. We should stop acting as if the Sixties Hippies are the majority voice and the 18-24 year olds are the majority demographic. THE BLOODY SIXTIES ARE OVER. The adults won.
.....No true Christian would ever say, "my Muslim faith" ...unless that person considered him/herself subconsciously, to be a Muslim ...when the subconscious emerges orally it is a Freudian slip ...deep down Obama sees himself as a Muslim and he has written in his book "The Audacity of Hope" that when it came to crunch time ..."he would stand with the Muslims" ...
.....In spite of his slip ups and his book the MSM still try to sell the public that he is a good Christian who just happened to belong to a radical church for twenty years .....I can't speak for others but I don't have to be hit over the head to see the light .....COLOSSUS
I live in Bucks County, PA which has traditionally been Republican but is getting less and less the case. One reason is that all the libs from NYC and Philly are moving to our beautiful, green area to flee the destruction they and their "liberal compassion" have produced in those areas. We have the distinct disadvantage of being within commuting distance of both of these areas and are being inundated.
As a life long resident of PA; I AM offended by the comments Obama made about PA and all who live, work and worship here. I recently attended the McCain/Palin rally in Lancaster,I didn't meet ONE PERSON who came across as "bitter" and I was impressed and encouraged by the Repupblican candidates! In regards to the comment regarding how Obama has kept his advertising campaign "clean"...really??? Do you really think Obama has NOTHING to do with the all out smear campaign against Gov. Palin? (saying "her family is off limits" in one breath, yet continuing to malign her to the press is something honorable???)Let's not be naive! Obama wants to tax "the rich" well, do you know who the "rich" are?? Anyone making over $200,000./yr. is considered "rich;" in Mr. Obama's world; that includes small businesses in this country. By substantially increasing taxes on the small business owner extreme hardship for these businesses will occur and could result in many small businesses closing; which in turn will result in job loss, increasing the unemployment rate nationwide! I work for a small business; the owner of the company I work for would be considered rich by Obama's standards...If Obama becomes the next president, I, in all reality, could be out of a job! Wake up people, Obama is NOT in this race for the people of this country, he's in it for the "celebrity status" and the opportunity to further his personal agenda! I'm not willing to take that risk...Are you? My vote will be cast for a man who leads from the front and has proven his commitment to his country, that man is John McCain!
GO McCain/Palin 2008!!!
Western PA
I also see no Obama signs in my travels thru the area...Exceptions being the ultra-liberal upper class area of Mt. Lebanon and the almost all black areas of Pittsburgh. Obama people are out on the streets in my town signing up voters and delivering the "message" of the great one. The people in this area still cling to the old-time saying that the "Democrats are for the working man"...That's all I've ever heard in response when I ask people why they continue to elect these criminals who tax us to death. They just keep pulling the "D" lever, even though the Democrats are now for the "non-working" person, to use for votes and to ignore the rest of the time.
But, all is not lost. Although most of the people I know are registered Democrat,they are not voting for Obama this time around, no matter what their UNION "suggests" that they do.
Howard Dean came to Pittsburgh a while back in a big bus tour to register new voters. As reported in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the tour was pictured signing up voters in the "Hill District", an almost 100% black city neighborhood. An area that the "elite" usually would NEVER normally go into for ANY reason.
The Obama campaign is also sending out post cards saying that McCain wants to take away womens "health care" rights. I scribble my response to him and send them back. This area is mostly Catholic and pro-life.
I myself, switched parties to vote for Hillary in Operation Chaos, but will stay registered as a DINO, so I am able to vote in our local primary elections because no one runs on the Republican ticket. They don't have a chance that way.
Please urge the Republicans to spend LOTS of money and time in PA. What you miss is that the veterans are NOT in McCain's corner. McCain's record clearly shows he doesn't support the troops or veterans. Guess what? We know it; the new GI Bill is a classic example.
Second, western PA folks (many female) I know who were rabid supporters of failed Senator Santorum say they will not vote Republican this year. When asked why one woman said "Republicans have messed up the country and need quiet time". That really says it all. The Philly burbs are now all Democrat especially now that the McCain/Palin ticket has resorted to telling outright lies. I guessed what worked in the past doesn't always work in the future?
PA Native Insight on rural PA voters
For the first time I can ever recall all of my blue collar, labor union, Democratic, gun- toting NRA, pro-life catholic family is untied behind one candidate -- and it ain't Obama.
I've seen people on other sites try to paint Obama's support in rural PA as a racial issue but I maintain it's cultural. Patriotism is rampant in rural PA. Regardless of what the unions push, those hopeless gun and God clingers can spot a phony from miles away.
McCain/Palin is the perfect rural PA ticket -- a state that embraces pro-life Dems (Bob Casey) and celebrates the first day of hunting season an official holiday. While, it remains to be seen if McCain can gather up enough votes in rural PA to outdo the Philly machine, I do believe at the close of the day his showing will be impressive.
for Michael
Michael writes: "Some of the extreme liberals have gone too far of course. Obama has tried to reign them in on several occasions, but ultimately there is little he can do. They make their own choices."
Just ONE WEEK after 9-11, Obama said that such an atrocity "grows out of a climate of poverty and ignorance, helplessness and despair."
Obama has been touting his "judgment." Well, his "judgment" sure failed him there.
Osama bin Laden isn't in "poverty," he's worth about $300,000,000. Mohammed Atta, who flew a jet into the World Trade Center, is the son of a lawyer and earned a master's degree in urban planning at Hamburg University. Ayman al-Zawahri is an eye surgeon.
They're neither impoverished, nor ignorant, nor stupid. Obama's reflexive reaction to 9-11 was to *empathize* with the *terrorists*.
My reflexive reaction to 9-11 was to retaliate against the enemy by total extermination if need be. If that meant using nuclear weapons, then by all means, do it.
See the difference?
Yes! We agree and they are now seeing exactly what liars McCain and Palin really are. I cannot tell you how many fence sitters jumped for Obama this past week.
McCain simply is no longer a patriot even if he once was a patriot and has actually admitted that he has put party above country. Palin told the Alaskan Independence Party they were doing a good job. Face it Hal, your Marxist/Socialist candidate does not reflect the values of the mainstream, even within your own party. You can't and won't win an election without them.
The libs are running scared and the attacks (especially against Palin) will get more desperate and vicious. McCain threatens the libs for an election, Palin threatens their power for a decade or more.
Yes - McCain can win
It will be tight and difficult to do, but McCain can actually win Pennsylvania, particularly if he reminds them that Obama was talking specifically about PA when he spoke of people who were "bitter" that "cling" to guns and religion, and who basically dismissed Pennsylvanians as racists.
The way the electoral college works according to Rasmussen, the "toss-up" states are New Mexico, Virginia, Colorado, and Nevada. The GOP leaners are Florida and Ohio, while the Democrat-leaners include Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and New Hampshire, all of which are states that I think McCain has a good to great chance of winning. Additional possible pickups for McCain include Iowa, Oregon, Minnesota, and Washington state.
I see McCain getting a minimum of 200 electoral votes, and a maximum of 352 electoral votes. All-in-all the election's too close to call, but McCain's prospects look good.
As a resident of Chester Co....
Chester Co. is still a Republican county...
Chances are McCain might not win West Chester, but then West Chester has a HUGE Hispanic population... Most of the fast food places have menus in both Eng. and Spanish.
But the rest of Chester Co... McCain!!!
All things being equal, Obama will get the monolithic black racist vote and the 20% marxist vote-33% max. Nationwide, I expect a landslide for Palin.
Truth is
Taking a "side" on these issues is just stupid.
Republicans recently have spent too much, and democrats continually keep the poor - POOR - for votes.
Neither party is good for America, in fact our forefathers warned us about factions.
Americans need to put party aside and vote on the candidates character, associations, honor, integrity, and record. Facts, not rumors. Every citizen has the obligation and duty to be an educated voter.
The destruction of the family started when we funded lazy groups of people instead of holding them accountable. When we denied the freedom of speech (religion/prayer) in schools. When we allowed teachers to teach theory as fact in a obvious effort to PROGRAM our young. When we allowed politicians and unions to make the financial climate so uncomfortable that we chased jobs over seas. When we allowed medical insurance, to somehow become less affordable than any other insurance we must have.
And most of all the family suffers when we the PEOPLE who whine about dead end jobs, government, our happiness and financial conditions yet DO nothing to improve our own personal existence.
*We* are why we suffer, not government. WE need to change government, not allow them to change us. To coddle us. Acceptance of PERSONAL responsibility and blame - is the key to a better future.
Total Garbage. Obama has run the nastiest, most hyper negative campaign in history. All the garbage smears being pushed about Palin are coming from the Obama campaign. They merely push it to their stoodge bloggers to give themselves deniablity.
Obama has yet to clearly state a position on any issue. He merely scream slogans like "I am going to cut taxes for 95% of Americans" BS. He cannot increase Federal Spending by $1.4 trillion as he has promised, and cut taxes for 95% of Americans. So either he is lying about the spending or the tax cuts. "Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, "Universal Voluntary Public Service."
"Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they'll be brainwash ed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of 'social change.'
"The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn't seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year "community leadership" positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They'll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats."
* * * * * * Now watch donahooye go NUTS!! * * * * *
"So we're going to provide a $4,000 tuition credit, every student, every year, but, students, you're going to HAVE TO give back something in return. You're going to have to participate in community service. You're going to HAVE TO work in a homeless shelter, or a veteran's home, or an underserved school, or join the Peace Corps." - Barack Obama
Does "HAVE TO" sound like "volunteer?"
Caral Ann re: Sen Casey
Backing Casey as pro life represenative was a mistake for those pro life pennsylvanians. Casey is backing Obama rather strong and who we all know is the biggest backer of abortion to the extreme. Casey had a chance to speak out against abortion at the democratic convention but said nothing on the subject. He is a coward and belongs in the same group as kerry, kennedy, pelosi, biden, etc, all those professed political catholics that use their faith to collect votes but work openly against the catholic teaching on abortion.
If I was nazi, supported nazi politicians for office and judges, but at the same time I would claim I was against exterminating jews you would laugh at me and rightfully so. Casey disgraces his father whos good name he rode into office on.
McCain blow-out
Obama gets California,Oregon, Washington, Illinois, D.C., and the far northeast states (except for New Hampshire).
McCain gets everything else, including Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. (I might allow that Obama will get Michigan, but I don't think so at the moment.)
McCain 348 electoral votes
Obama 190
I've been watching elections since 1960 (when I was 10 years old) and I've never been wrong. I've wished I would be wrong a few times (especially 1976), but never have been.
I might be wrong this time, but I can make this promise: if Obama wins in 2008 he will certainly NOT win in 2012.
There are lots but no where near a majority
"They understand that the economic policies of Omaba will wreck this very fragile economy which, by the way, the deomoncrats have done nothing to try and fix in their desire to get back into the white house."
The Senate has blocked every effort and most military and union guys realise this faltering economy was created and underwritten by the conservatives. We need systematic change and voting Republican will not provide it
"Haditha Marine prepares to sue Murtha over smear"
http://hillbillywhitetrash.blogspot.com/2008/06/haditha-mar ine-prepares-to-sue-murtha.html
"With most of the eight Marines charged in the Haditha, Iraq, incident now EXONERATED, the highest-ranking officer among the accused is considering a lawsuit against Democratic Rep. John Murtha, who fueled the case by declaring the men cold-blooded killers.
"In an interview with nationally syndicated radio talk host Michael Savage, the lead attorney for Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani said he and his client will look into suing Murtha and the Time magazine reporter, Tim McGuirk, who first published the accusations by Iraqi insurgents.
"But the attorney, Brian Rooney, said nothing will happen immediately because he wants Chessani, described as a devout Christian and the father of six homeschooled children, completely "out of the woods" legally before any action is taken. The government, through Lt. Col. S.M. Sullivan, today filed a notice that it would appeal the case to the next judicial level."
Hal Donahue - The "Uncertain" Certain
Despite Hal's bloviating predictions of an Obama victory in November, it is best to keep in mind two things:
1. Old Hal virtually guaranteed the U.S. would be in an official recession by this past July. (This from someone who supposedly majored in "Economics").
2. I've several times offered to wager a "Ben Franklin" with Hal on the presidential election outcome - but all his so-called "confidence" would allow him to offer was a "George Washington". (This from someone who claims a veteran's pension and having "run several businesses", but who is "too cheap" to put his money where his mouth is).
Actually, charges being dropped against some of the Marines showed that the prosecutor did not have enough incriminating direct or circumstantial evidence to go forth with a trial. As a man is presumed innocent before a trial, this does reinforce the innocence in which the law clothes him.
Where'd they go?
Where'd all the libs go? I'm used to seeing the regular liars supplemented by several drive-by lib liars. Now the unpaid segment of libs seem to be in short supply. Is it a marxist holiday or something?
Summers: Thanks. :-) I seemed to recall
something about that, but not enough solid detail to post accurately...
But hey... must be the prosecutor didn't consult with Gurtha Murtha, since he had these Marines "cold blooded murderers" already tried and convicted!
Murtha is as much of an embarrassment to PA and the US Congress as donahooey is to PA, and the military.
If you want to be embarrassed for someone, read Hal's latest column on Huffington. He could not resist a description to make Obama's birth sound messianic. It goes basically: 'He was born on a small, remote island to a single mother...' He makes it seem more like Howland Island than one of the larger Hawaiian islands. The basic purpose of the column is to stress McCain's age and say that he is too old. Along the way he states that McCain has embraced the religious right. I am tempted to send a copy to John Hagee. 'A small, isolated island....' Maybe he should write a column on babies who live after late term abortions and are left to die. His poetic license could loom large on such a piece if he so chose.
After reading Hal's piece, I am away with the thought that the Dems are very nervous.
Michael
You confuse Christianity and politics. With Obama, you confuse 'black liberation theology' with Christianity.
Lest you don't remember, not all Christian conservatives are Repubs and not all Repubs are Christian conservatives.
Lest you don't remember and were not trolling TH at a time not so distantly past, many conservatives divorced the Republican Party.
Lest you are too naive to play the odds, I wouldn't pick the bet you want to place, and I know odds.
Lest you don't understand Christianity, you better read the column in todays TH about the Psalms. Jesus was never a doormat and did not tell his followers to serve in that capacity.
Obama "Polls"
Every time someone calls regarding the election I have consistently told them my choice would be Obama (Never had the slightest intention of voting for this Marxist Con man)just because I was mad at McCain's amnesty and the Feingold fiasco and wanted to inflate the opposition's numbers.
Today I had some pollsters knock on my door, I got "even" : I said - I was for Obama before the appearance of Gov. Palin, but since she has come into the picture I was voting for her...they simply couldn't believe it !
I wonder how many people out there screw around like this ? New Hampshire polls indicated Obama was way ahead of Hillary yet they were all wrong...Bradley effect anyone?
Michael – Lest you've forgot.
Your moral standard, precluding McCain from running for President because he was divorced from his first wife, would have disqualified Reagan – arguably the greatest POTUS of the last century.
From a standpoint of morality I’ll take John McCain with his singular failed marriage over B. Hussein’s repeated support for infanticide, hands down.
The question I would ask you. Can you honestly believe John’s decade's old failed first marriage is a greater moral conundrum than Barrack’s present day continued unwavering support for Infanticide?
The outright Cowards
The media is so afraid to offend the blacks they are willing to sit back and go in the tank to get obama elected, the media have not asked one question about William Jefferson in the last year, if they ever did and now we have another criminal in congress called Charlie Rangel.
Harry Reid.
Las Vegas is going broke because people can not afford to buy gas to put in cars to go see the place, people can not afford plane tickets because of the high price of a ticket based mostly on the higher cost of fuel.
The moron Reid sits back and watches millions go down the drain in his own state and is opposed to oil independence. Pelosi is the same.
People will be hurting in Les Vegas before long and they can look at the lunatics they elected in 2006 and say thanks. It is a sad fact but, President Bush is not our problem, we have a crazy congress and the poll numbers in this case don't lie. 9% approval is shall we say an American tragedy.
One last thought
Lets assume for some insane reason the people had a spell cast on them my an alien and they voted Obama, would that mean we would become friend with Chavez and Putin, they both are Marxist.
You did know Obama is a hard core redistribution of wealth Marxist did you not?
Michael
Lest you forget...
McCain has good points, too, and Obama has bad points.
And lest you forget, we are capable of seeing, and remembering the good points and bad points from both sides.
Neither campaign is perfect. Both teams have warts. But since it's one or the other, let's compare warts with warts. Let's also remember:
Obama's associations with Rezko, Ayers, Wright, Pfleger, Hamas, Alinsky, the Daley political machine. Having these people as friends says a lot about him. Or had you forgotten them?
Sabato - has no credbility
He is, I have on authority here from people in Charlottesville and UVA , naturally moved more and more left over the years due to "lifestyle issues".
More directly, he should have no credibility in any event due to the flat out lies he told about George Allen in the 2006 election - alleging Allen used the N-word. Naturally he got a pass since he is a leftist.
He is a total loser and any advice he gives a Republican should be taken with a LOAD of salt, or discounted entirely.
YES HE CAN...YES HE CAN...YES HE WILL!
President Elect McCain and Vice President Elect Palin do not only appear to our party as being the winning team. Americans in general, know that they are the winning team. They are finding the Flim Flam Obamaman wanting...wanting...wanting!
Will it still matter...?
If your Pastor/mentor was Rev Wright - who has - does preach - anti-American views?
If you have a 20 yr membership with a church deeply involved with the black liberation movement where allegiance is to Africa - first?
If your friend/neighbor/ fellow Woods Board member/known Weatherman - is terrorist Bill Ayres - who admitted bombing the US Pentagon - who also said he would have done more - if he could?
If another friend is - Louis Farrakkan of the Nation of Islam?
Americans now realize that all are - still - in opposition to the government of the United States of America.
It is not that the Flim Flam Obamaman...
Is young and inexperienced!
It is not that he is half black!
It is his tendency to align himself with individuals who consider the US government as their enemy!
America is waking up - we cannot afford to have such a man elected to the highest office in our land. The Democrats should be ashamed of selecting him as their candidate and Joe Biden should be ashamed of running with him on the ticket!
Based on his history of choosing friends that are enemies of the United States - he is unqualified for the office of the presidency
AND THAT SHOULD MATTER TO ALL AMERICANS!
"Flim Flam" : deception, fraud, double dealing.
McCain Loses.
If democrats vote for a pro war republican who has also stated many times that there will be other wars, then we will see the largest showing of hypocrisy America may have ever seen.
For democrats to do that after pushing the war as their main anti-republican argument for over 5 years then that would be pretty much unbelieveable.
Now we see a whole lot of wishful thinking by the McCain supporters.
But lets be honest.
If we want to say that McCain has a chance of winning Pennsylvania, then we must also accept the possibility that McCain may lose Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina, and many people are saying maybe even Texas.
It's not his color IT'S HIS PASTOR !
I disagree with the writer. She claims Obama's COLOR is a problem for the folks in PA.
I disagree.
No one had a problem with him until WE SAW WHERE HE WENT TO CHURCH FOR 20 YEARS:
CAN YOU SAY G*dmn America?
And THAT is what's keeping folks away from Obama, not the color of his SKIN. And the other thing is his obsession with INFANTICIDE.
Bad combo for a presidential candidate.
Color means nothing compared to the above and to say it would be a factor in PA is a LIE.
PS
The poll on the front of this site is fake. Surprised none of you have ever noticed.
the only thing you remind us is that you are an idiot.
The only thing you have posted is that anything that comes from your messiah's campaign is the truth.
But explain away his association with acorn and the various haters of america he has used as father figures and mentors.
Perhaps phleger, farrakhan and wright don't bother you, but it shows your hero has very faulty judgement in who he chooses to associate with.
Plus clear up the lie the messiah tried to use when he said his kids went to school with ayers kids. Kind of hard to do when ayers is old enough to be your messiah's daddy.
pa and the messiah
since the missus clinton won the primary, it is evident his message has little resonance amongst those in the commonwealth.
But after the primary man of the messiah's bootlickers claimed that other than pilly and pittsburgh the rest of the state had more in common with alabama.
My guess is that those embittered folks clinging to their guns and bibles will have trouble with the man from the black liberation church and the one who advocates for unlimited access to abortion and murdering baby's who survive the abortion process.
Perhaps the messiah can't understand the sanctitity of life, but I am sure the citizens of pa fully understand this simple idea
TnConservative
You make a good point. However, everything is premised on polls and we can't forget the Bradley effect. Many are afraid to say they would not or did not vote for a black man, as MoniQue correctly points out, even though the reasons are matters other than color. I would be happy to vote for Michael Steele.
I warned of a problem long ago, it seems, when conservatives were saying they would not vote for McCain even if McCain were the lesser of two evils. Many of them are still there. The race may be close or may be a blow-out for one or the other. The only thing I know is that a third party vote may make a difference.
Oh Michael, Get a grip! Somehow John
"Heinz" Kerry's divorce wasn't an issue when HE was running for POTUS!
And you must have missed the "Showdown at Saddleback" when McCain admitted... not just publicly, but in front of one of the biggest audiences in the country, that his divorce was his biggest personal failure!
What do you want now, for him to cut off one of the arms that he cannot raise above his shoulder as a result of the beatings and torture he endured while a POW at the Hanoi Hilton?
Probably shouldn't have brought up the "divorce" issue... Bad move on your part.
Mac and the Harley plant
Near I83 and US 30 in York is the Harley plant. The last time I drove by was 4 or 5 years ago, however before that we drove by 3 or 4 times a year for 12 years going to Amish country. The plant had two flags, the US flag and the black and white POW - MIA flag. Yes a blue state. Yes union members. I think perhaps though, John McCain voters.
17Summers.
Thanks for the reply.
I think that there is a lot of wishful thinking on the part of the McCain supporters.
I also think that republicans and people who are calling themselves conservatives have gone the wrong way.
A third party vote does count. So does a write in vote. The point that they will not win, only further shows the problem with them going in the wrong direction. Its not always about winning. Especially win both sides are wrong.
Two wrongs don't make a right. Or rather should I say, two lefts don't make a right.
I re-read my post and now see that it is subject to interpretation not meant. What I was pointing out that third party voting may give Obama the election. Four years and two or three SCOTUS appointments can entrench socialism into our government that would do irreparable harm no matter how vigilant Obama's successor is.
Lehman Brothers will declare any moment now that it will take bankruptcy. Our banking system, as well as all of medicine, will be socialized under an Obama presidency; and, that is just for starters. I could elaborate longer but will spare you.
Just think of your life under a socialized government and a plan to 'redistribute' wealth. Think Jimmy Carter on steroids. I lived through Carter and would not want to do it a second time, especially in an empowered mode with socialists Pelosi and Reid in charge of Congress.
While I will love to see the shock and awe some of the wealthy leftist loons will experience, I may prefer to see it from Costa Rico.
Obama charges and game plan
What infuriates my hubby and I, kgk, is that inevitably , the DNC and Obama will use RACE as their ace in the hole.The Media will drip every outlet with it. The Times, Post , all the MSNBCers on every other TV Network will charge Pubs with hangings, smears and of course, the great word lies. They will never ,never ever deal with the Messiah's lies, the Dem 527's leftist socialist pacifist prevarications that for 7 -8 years they have been supplying. Think of the Moveoners, Kosites, and now the Reid-Pelosi-Murtha-horrors about our military and perhaps Pa. will indeed remember just how really an empty suit this faux Messiah really is. McCain will protect all states not just Red States. Hard working families , single moms, may see the McCain-Palin ticket as one which will really deal not only with economic problems Penns. face but will assure citizens that this nation will also face all international problems without blinking, as the Sarahacuda avered.
Which family value allows your relatives to live in poverty, while you make millions of dollars writing books about yourself? I for one, do not want anyone telling me that I must make sacrifices, while one of our wanna-be presidents is not willing to help his own family
COLOSSUS,
Obama has zero chance of winning Georgia?
Care to explain?
Considering that Clinton won Georgia, and Dole only won it by less than 2 points. It has a large black population that is supportive of Obama.
It also is the home state of Bob Barr which might get many Georgia republican votes.
McCain did not win Georgia in the primary either.
McCain got 258,854 votes in Georiga which he did not win.
Obama got 484,037 votes in Georgia which he did win.
Maybe McCain will be able to pull it out.
But I think to say that there is zero chance Obama will win is ignoring a lot.
Maybe the third party vote will cause McCain to lose. That would be a pretty powerful statement.
As far as the SCOTUS appointments go, this is another empty promise by McCain.
Congress appoints justices, not a president. A president gives a nominee which is then either appointed by congress or shot down by congress.
So if you believe McCain that he will appoint the 5th conservative which will give us a majority conservative Supreme court, and the majority democrat congress will appoint this, and appoint a conservative to replace a flaming liberal justice then I think you might be in for a suprise if McCain actually wins.
Personally I think there has been a lot of empty promises made.
Salena does not mention the bigoted slur
The single most important element of this election in Pennsylvania was the unguarded slur that Obama got caught with in his soire in San Francisco...This should not have been left out...Otherwise, the article is sharp, especially the Sabato conclusion, which ought to have led the piece.
Million new democrats
What the pollsters are for getting is that tons of republicans changed their registrations to democrat to keep the hildebeast in the race in the primary. This happened in many states, not just Pennsylvania. What looks like millions of new democrat voters will be a big surprise for the forgetful elites.
GET MORE AMISH REGISTERED TO VOTE
After talking to my wifes family in Ohio, they told me how important they thought it was that the Republican Party paid close attention to the AMISH VOTE especially in the swing states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan and Missouri and elsewhere. Holmes county Ohio has the largest population of Amish and Mennonites in the world, then next I believe is Lancaster, Pennsylvania and then Northern Indiana. The last election most of the Amish who voted did vote for George Bush. The Amish and the Mennonites are very much opposed to abortion...I believe Sarah Palin and some republicans who have ties to the Amish community could help to energize a surge of Amish Voter Registrations before the deadline which I believe is around October 4th.
In addition, the Amish are always looking for raw land to settle and to farm...I believe Gov Sonny Perdue should try to encourage them to start settlements in Georgia too. There numbers double every (16) sixteen years because they average between (5) and (6) kids per family. It would be nice to encourage their numbers in states that have a shortage of conservative voters. They would be an asset to my home state.
TnConservative
I just watched the History Channel program on 9/11. If you would take a chance on Obama, you have forgotten. You have forgotten a day of terror when innocents were killed. You have forgotten the faces of the firemen looking up at the towers as they ran towards them knowing it was their job but it was hopeless. Still, they tried and gave their lives. You have forgotten Fr. Michael who was giving last rites as the building came down around him.
You are not a conservative. You are a stupid coward who thinks he is making a point.
Hal Donahue
Is your remark about destroying the Catholic Church your attempt at humor or outrage?
McCain missed the Texas ballot?
Apparently McCain delayed picking a running mate for so long that he missed the deadline to be on the Texas ballot. Obama did too.
So apparently it is actually illegal for either McCain or Obama to be on the Texas ballot in 2008.
Just something I saw on the Bob Barr site.
I'm not a Barr supporter, but I found it very interesting. Apparently there will be legal action if McCain or Obama trys to get on the ballot after missing the deadline.
The Barr supporters should be talking a lot about this.
17summers, go on and get mad.
If your dependant on a political party to save America then thats your choice.
Personally I don't give them all the credit that there has been no further attacks.
I make one point about the supreme court and McCain, which you cannot disprove so you go off on me.
Thats ok.
BTW I'm no coward. Voting for McCain doesn't take any courage.
You go ahead in your government dependance and dependance on a political party and vote for McCain if you want to.
I'm just a person, an American trying to speak for people for Americans who do not approve of either party candidate this time. Our thoughts on this are being supressed by the media and everyone else.
TNConservative
I am not 'mad'. I don't rely on a political party. I don't believe any political party has prevented an attack. I believe there will be subsequent attacks.
Maybe you are not a coward. Maybe that was the wrong word and you are really just a fool to give your vote to a socialist and apologist. Apparently, you have never gotten politically active at the grass roots level and taken it up from there. Obviously, you spend no time contacting elected officials. I do. That does take time and courage. I am damned mad and I am taking no more of it. I will speak up and out; but, I won't sell out to a socialist state. The media can ignore me as a person but it cannot ignore the people with whom I am of like mind when they speak up. I am not 'just a person'; I am a person responsible for and to the generations that have and will follow me.
Your thinking process is self-centered; but, it will not, ultimately, be self-serving.
TNConservative
Winning Pennsylvania
When it comes to honest government, Philadelphia is like a big chancre sore on the face of Pennsylvania.
The big problem with those one million "extra" registered Democrats is that they can all be counted on to vote--especially if they're dead!
Edward!
How dare you point out the truth! In several states the dead vote early and often.
I may vote often. My identity was stolen and the jerk registered to vote in North Carolina in a DUH moment. Not all states check that.
17summers, you don't know me.
And thats fine.
I don't think that voting for McCain is going to serve myself and future generations.
If I thought that like you apparently do, then I would probably support McCain also.
But I don't. Because I think a McCain win will prove that a left turn pays. And it will be a slippery slope. And McCain will reach arcoss the aisle with democrats.
More over than that, it would make 2010 much harder to win any congress. Especially if there are more wars like McCain says there will be. The mandate for 2010, then may not happen.
No, I don't think a McCain win will be good for future generations. I think just the opposite to be honest.
I'm not happy about this.
But two wrongs don't make a right. Or two lefts don't make a right.
TNConservative
I simply want McCain to hold the place for four years or until he dies, whichever comes first. We don't even have a Dem who will play moderate like B. Clinton to a GOP Congress.
There are many capable people in the GOP who are ignored. I feel it incumbent upon myself and others to promote them. I do not mean a born-again conservative like Romney. I, specifically, mean conservatives like Kasich, Steele, Jindal. There are more on the list. For the time being, I think Palin can hold the course.
I am really not attempting to be argumentative as I am trying to get you to reconsider. My spouse is a self-described 'recovering psychologist' and swears we will swing from the left back to the right if we can just hold our place in line.
In the meanwhile, I am working like mad on Congress from here. I work on our state legislature. I live in two states, but longer in one so that I can vote in that one. I do political campaigning in both for legislation and ethics.
I am one of those who can't wait to see Bush in the rear-view mirror.
Yes , McCain can win with Palin there and the last three polls show a 4 point GOP pickup in the last two weeks leaving McCain 2-3% behind Obama. Catholics , an older population and white protestants can make Obama work in Penn.. If Obama loses there he is toast. Watch how much time he campaigns there or sends the Clintons there. The more they hit Penn. the more they're in trouble.
The Real Question is About Iowa
For some reason, despite being double digits behind in the polls there, the McCain camp keeps trying for Iowa. McCain and Palin are making a stop in Cedar Rapids and commercials that play only in swing states are playing in Iowa. Why can't the McCain camp admit it's lost and divert resources into a state it has some chance of winning (like PA...or Washington state or New Jersey)?
Can McCain win PA
Well, from my point of view here in NW PA. It is a big YES he can and YES he will. Everyone I talk to and hear are going McCain/Palin. All my relatives in the Pittsburgh suburbs are saying the same there. Looking very good, Philly will be the problem.
Don't understand...
Why McCain can't win the entire South Hills of Pittsburgh (I live in the South Hills area). Mount Lebo is no different than the borough that I live in.
Pittsburgh traditionally votes democrat and it has never served us well. Our taxes keep raising higher and higher, our city schools are an absolute mess, and our roads are out of control with construction plans that never see fruition.
Philadelphia...Rendell left that place the mess it always was. The crime in Philadelphia has steadily risen in most categories since he left office as Mayor before becoming Governor. His last year in office, robberies, murders, and vehicle thefts went up...most are up even still today.
Allegheny County is aging -- young people are leaving -- and should vote a lot less Democrat than usual, with McCain's strong support among the elderly.
Rich D at 7:21 AM is correct about vote fraud, but that only really affects Philadelphia County. It will go heavily for Obama even without fraud, that's a given. This year, however, it will be neutralized by the Bradley effect, which will produce larger-than-normal margins in Washington, Berks, Bucks, Delaware, and most of the central counties, and a smaller victory than usual in Allegheny County.
I've been saying Obama was in trouble in PA since the PA Dem primary. Obama got Bradleyed, big time, and it's going to happen again in the general. I'm not proud of this, but it's a fact.
Ms. Zito: WHAT big churches in northern Bucks?
(My location says "MA," but I spent most of my life in PA.)
I hope that you are right - the fraud generally brings the total up to the point that it can't be overcome in the PA "T" area, if you know what I mean. An honest vote there would have meant more R office holders over the years.
guns and religion
Let Big John and Sarah crisscross the state clinging to their guns and religion, and Pa. will fall like a ripe plum into the Republican column.
Remember this
Governor fast Eddie Rendell and the dem-party legislators officially made PA "The Voter Fraud State.
We have to hope that so many Pennsylvanians vote for McCain-Palin that the fraudulent votes will be greatly outnumbered.
Ambrose #99
Sen. Casey's father is the "Governor Casey" in "Governor Casey's Highest State Business Taxes in the Nation", which destroyed much of PA's business and industry. He was a tax-and-spend democrat who did not have a good name to ride into office. Both of them are equally bad.
Are you sure
That Obama is half-black?
Are you sure that he isn't half Arab, Muslim Arab, Muslim arab Terrorist? Think about it.
Obama a muslim/terrorist?
What happened to the Patriot Act? Did it go defunct when Obama began campaigning for the Senate? Where has our FBI and CIA been hiding to not investigate this "terrorist" "muslim" for the past 10 years? How has Barack Obama slipped through the cracks? I know that I gave up certain Civil Rights so that terrorists could and would be caught. Even home grown terrorists are investigated. Only one problem, most of our home grown terrorists have been registered Republicans.Did terrorists give up the Republican party for the Democratic? How many other "terrorists" or "muslims" have infiltrated the House or Senate or government in some way that the FBI or CIA has totally missed or ignored?
