Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

An old political adage says, “He who sets the debate wins the election.”

If the presidential election was held tomorrow, it would be hello President Barack Obama because, so far, John McCain is handing him a victory.

McCain is better than the campaign he has run so far. Most people admit that McCain is an inspirational figure – even Obama has admitted that – so why isn’t McCain telling voters where he wants to lead them?

Instead, his campaign is all about his opponent.

“He himself is reinforcing that this campaign is all about Obama,” says Democratic strategist Mark Siegel. “His ads and his message are all negatives. The problem with that is, it is driving his own negatives up as well.”

GOP strategist David Carney disagrees; he says the McCain campaign has no choice but to do what it can to bring down Obama by constantly introducing him to voters through his flaws. “There is no positive that will help McCain,” he insists.

Obama’s critics say there is no substance behind his rhetoric – but McCain’s critics and supporters alike are wondering where is the rhetoric and the substance?

They know McCain is bigger than the campaign he is running, and wonder why he is acting so small.

Siegel points to Bob Dole’s campaign against Bill Clinton in 1996, when “the message that Dole was running on against Clinton was, ‘Where is the outrage?’

“Dole had nothing positive to say,” he adds. “He came across as a snarling, angry old man and, frankly, McCain is looking snarlier, angrier and older than Dole.”

McCain is very smart; his political instincts generally are very good when he is confident and on firm ground. But they are terrible when he feels things are out of control and when he loses faith in himself or the people around him.

Today’s close opinion polls have everything to do with Obama. He has not pulled ahead of McCain because he still is an unknown, he’s black – and pollsters have not expanded their universes to include the baseline of the new black and youth voters.

Another reason the polling should offer little comfort to Republicans is that the numbers mirror 1980’s closeness between Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan.

That race was not about Carter in the same way this race is not about McCain. Reagan’s biggest hurdle was passing the commander-in-chief test; while remaining tied with Carter, Reagan went the entire summer and into the fall passing threshold after threshold. By the end of October, it all broke Reagan’s way.

This race has that same feel to it for Obama.

Most of the game of a presidential election is mental; it is, literally, all inside a campaign’s head. To remain competitive, the McCain campaign should set the agenda, stop reacting to what Obama does – and let McCain be the bigger guy.

Hard as this is to implement, the McCain campaign should ignore the polls and allow a McCain narrative, with his kind of message, to run its course.

Traditionally, campaigns that are ahead in the polls can’t help but be smug. Once McCain actually has a message that is about him, it will force Obama to react to it and to McCain’s core values.

What the McCainiacs should stop doing is using their man as a prop in a supermarket, as if he is somebody’s grandfather in a suit and tie shopping for groceries. That is not who John McCain is to Americans.

And McCain just looks plain uncomfortable attacking Obama day in and day out. Isn’t that what a surrogate should be doing?

For his own good, he should stop talking about Obama. It’s like the first rule of Fight Club: Never talk about Fight Club.

As Democrat Siegel says, all that accomplishes is to trivialize the campaign.

McCain must get back to talking about reforming Washington and how that applies to average Americans and how he will lead the way.

McCain Reform can trump Obama Change. In fact, reform means change with stability attached to it, and stability is the one thing that can undercut change.

The choice right now is change with a guy who is running through the forest followed by blue birds and unicorns – and with a grumpy old man shouting at him.

Sort of like a Grimm’s fairy tale on steroids.

Obama is All Show and No Substance. You can dress up a Pig in pretty clothes, and you still have a Pig. The DNC miscalculated when they Picked This Puppet Obama to do their Bidding. Americans were supposed to just Bow To Him, because he Was Something New and Unique. What they missed was that their Puppet Was a Narcissist who loves himself more than Anything Else, and this Came Through Loud and Clear, and like Most Narcissists, he has spent so much time Admiring Himself, that he Became Delusional, and Now Truly Believes that "he is the man" and nothing else matters. He believes that all He has To Do Is Show Up and Smile and Say Hope and Change and Give His Arm Waves and Gestures and that people will Simply Overlook the Fact that He Knows Nothing of Substance, and Cannot Lead a Country. He reckons himself, a Rock Star. The DNC made a Fatal Error and They probably know this by now and are likely to Throw Him Under The Bus, the Same as Obama has done to All Of His Own Comrades when they brought Attention To Who He Really is And became an Eyesore and Liability to Him.

Besides his Narcissism, and Ignorance, this is Obama's third Worst Character Defects. Obama Has No Loyalty To Anybody and of, course we all Know He Has No Loyalty To The United States of America, as witnessed by his World Rock Tour Sponsored by the Mainstream Media. I am a Vet and This Man, Obama, is A Disgrace To This Country.

Reply to Pasadena Phil from SS of CA
Hey Pasadena. It is obvious that Nancy, Save The Planet Obstructionist Obama Cheerleader, Pelosi has gotten to you. You Californians have lived under Socialism so long, that you actually believe that that is what Democracy and a Free Republic are all about. Californians are regulated right down to What You are Allowed to Eat. And, Comrade Pelosi wants the Rest Of Us out here in the Real World to live under California Style Social Engineering.

Well, the rest of us, are saying No to Pelosi, No To the DNC Puppet Obama, and No To Socialism, generally.

As for debating Obama. Obama's handlers will Never Allow this Empty Suit, Empty Head Ignoramus to compete in an Actual Debate where Obama would have to formulate his own replies based on his own knowledge and understanding of issues. He has no Knowledge and Understanding of Issues. His DNC handlers know this, and that is why you Will Never See a Legitimate Debate. They may agree to some Staged and Scripted Statements Session Where The Media are Given a Script of Questions and Obama a Script of Answers, but this is not a Debate. Obama will never enter a True Debate on Issues.

And, of course, If he did actually have a Legitimate Debate With McCain, it would be life "Dueling With an Unarmed Man." Obama would be Dead in the Water without a Teleprompter with a Script. McCain would win by a KO in about the First Minute of Round One.

Obama Stooge of DNC--Is an Empty Suit
Obama has a huge War Chest that was filled by The Special Interests who want to Purchase His Influence to Complement His Liberal Democrat Legislators who have Been Bought and Paid for by the Same Special Interests. On top of This, This Media Gives Obama 24-7 Coverage and pass it off as Legitimate News. Programs, such as The View, regularly have Obama on as a Guest which they know Is More Free Political Advertising. Then, you have Oprah who does the same.

And, even with all this Free Advertising Disguised as News and Entertainment, Obama cannot and will not win this election. In fact, the more this Bozo is exposed to the Public, the More Votes he loses. His arrogance and narcissistic tendencies are so obvious when you actually see him.

And, on top of his Arrogance and Narcissistic personality, the man is an Ignorant Fool. Without a teleprompter, he cannot answer any question of substance. When asked a question that requires formulating a thought based on knowledge, he stutters, waves his arms and finishes with some inane remark such as "you know what I mean, we need change and I represent change." Well, with his Ignorance on basic issues, he is unable to debate anybody. So, naturally, he will feign and duck and will not sit down to a legitimate debate that would require that his answers not be posted by Script Writers who put it up on a teleprompter.

Obama's DNC and Hollywood Publicists know he is an Empty Suit, and they are never going to allow this Puppet of theirs to Enter into a Legitimate debate with McCain, who does have Knowledge and Understanding of Domestic and Foreign Affairs, and knows and understands the Interests of the Majority Populace out here who work hard, pay taxes, and struggle to survive while Obama and the Obstructionist Liberal Congress panders to Special Interests and Have as their Mission Right Now, to Get Their Puppet Elected at any cost.

ReCon-USMC
You are right but a lot of times the winner takes a lot of punishment during the earlier rounds. Hopefully he will come out of them un-scathed. Look at Ali now. He shakes, he can't talk above a whisper, and is in terrible shape. let's hope McCain takes just enough to see the light and become conservative, although I don't know if osamabama has THAT much fight in him.

Oboma a Late round TAP OUT ? Yes !
As Former very competive Neidon(second degree black belt ) in Judo 200 Lb. player and later a Mixed Marshall Artist and ReCon Marine .
Those with the most amount of Stamnia Win usually in the last two Five Minute rounds not who is the most skilled often . The Hot Shot blows their wad much like the Hare did against the Turtle in the early rounds . Or Ali Rope a Dope against poor George Foreman .
Oboma has had the most amount of Love and attention by the media ever by anyone running for President .Even with his God is here tour of Iraq and Europe. He is 1 point down in todays NATIONAL POLLS which is amazing . Remember Hillary Won 7 of the last 9 states and would have won Fla . and Mich. if counted .
We have seen his light weight Sissy game and will TAP OUT in the last Two rounds , Mac well knows and can Strangle SKINNY MAN out easily most common sense folks well know as well .
Oboma is all show time talk and no Go !

McMole
Just gotta love that one, right up there with McAmnesty and makes one wonder about the Manchurian Candidate could be either one of the sad choices we face but, alas, it is again the lesser of the evils we must chose unless we can figure out how to take back the primary elections to really reflect the people's choice and not the formerly smoked filled room party elite pow wows in DC (both sides)

Inspirational? McCain?
Creepy is more like it.

McCain and surrogates
"And McCain just looks plain uncomfortable attacking Obama day in and day out. Isn’t that what a surrogate should be doing?"

Two problems, First, McCain was using (abusing) surrogates earlier and then throwing them under the bus. "No one speaks for McCain. Only McCain speaks for McCain."

Second, the surrogates he DOES use are lame. Two weeks ago, it was Tim Pawlenty and Democrat Joe Lieberman making the Sunday news rounds. Yesterday it was the annoyingly effeminate and unctuous Lindsay Graham and Joe Lieberman. again.

If McCain is going to use surrogates, they need to be saying useful things and they have to be credible. All he is presenting are lame RINOs and his Democrat pals. And who is that smirking ever-present non-paid volunteer? Juan Hernandez? We can see right through the phoniness and pandering. Too mavericky and sleazy for me.

For Brickhouse
Two points:

1. McCain's position on drilling is a classic finger-in-the-wind flip-flop. Saying that "McCain is doing his duty as a US Senator by listening to the will of the people" is like tying a pink ribbon on a pig. The ribbon may be pretty but the pig is still there.

What you're not getting is that a great leader that is worthy of the Presidency would have foreseen $4 gas 5 or 10 years ago and lobied extensively to prevent it instead of saying whatever would get favorable reviews from the NYT. Instead of praising and attempting to redefine McCain's flip-flop you should be concerned about the next crisis we will face in 10 years because finger-in-the-wind idiots like McCain are experts on what the liberal media will praise but don't know squat about economics.

2. If McCain becomes the President the 40-odd remaining Republicans in the Senate will not be able to filibuster things like "green-fuel" subsidies and amnesty for illegals because the President who is pushing for these fiascos will be the head of their own party. And we will be stuck with as our nominee again in 2012, with a depressed economy.

It is bad enough that we have to fend off flaming liberalism with the Democrats' favorite Republican as our candidate. There's no reason why we should claim ownership over the disater we know is coming and tie ourselves to this poser for a second Presidential election as well.

Hi Former. I agree with you about the sell out of our National Identity and Sovereignty by both parties. This has been in the works for many decades, but never so much as in the past 40 years.

Kruschev, former Soviet Dicatator, told us Americans and the World way back in the early 1960's that World Communism would overtake the United States without firing a shot. Kruschev and the Communists had Long Range Plans.

The way that the Congress works is that in order for those in Congress to get What The Country Needs, They Have To Give The Liberal Democrats What they WANT. These Tradeoffs for Political Expediency HAS TO STOP. The National Security, which inclueds Borders, Illegal Invasions, Protection of the Food Supply, Air Safety, and Infrastructure of the Country are Needs. More Social Spending on Give Away Programs, Funding the U.S.Dept. of Education, The EPA, and all other Pork Projects are WANTS. This government Collects Enough Taxes to Take Care Of Legitimate Needs that Government is Responsible For, and Not Enough For the INFINITE WANTS that the Democrats Force The Republicans to Vote For in Order To Get The NEEDS Funds to run the Legitimate Government.

We Have To Become Fiscally Responsible if We Are To Stay A Free Nation. Satisfying WANTS OF The Liberal Democrats is Destroying us.

Well, take a look around 45 years later after the Great Society Revolution started by LBJ and see where we have come.

WHY NOT McCAIN?

In 2000 Conservatives were influential enough to get all Republican candidates to genuflect at their altar. George II thought conservative support so critical that he constructed an elaborate back story to convince the electorate that he wasn’t a Globalist invertebrate in the mold of his father. In 2004 the Bush mantra was, “hey, I didn’t lie, I’m just more compassionate than conservative, but stick with me were in a war”.
Now in 2008, McCain thinks so little of conservatives that not only ignores them, he openly boasts to the mythical moderate vote how he holds conservative principles in contempt.
If you not sentient enough to detect the downward trajectory in the relationship between Conservatives and the K Street Overlords of the Republican Party, your grandchildren deserve the socialist totalitarian state they will dwell in.

JFK was assassinated. LBJ became President, and immediately began Exerting Federal Power against states and Began Expanding Wholesale the Soviet Bureaucratic Model. Crate a Huge Federal Bureaucracy and Mandate States to Follow Suit with their Local Bureaucracies. Created the Welfare State. Destroy The Literacy of the Populace through The Mandated Compulsory Attendance Government Schools. Dumb Down and Indoctrinate the Populace.

Well, take a look around 45 years later after the Great Society Revolution started by LBJ and see where we have come.

Take off the Gloves and Fight
The DNC strategy for picking this particular Stooge and Puppet Obama to be their Candidate is working for The DNC and Obama.

The DNC want the Presidency. That is Their Objective, whether it would have Been Obama or Clinton, or anybody else that they, The DNC thought they could Con The American Citizenry to Electing.

They Chose Obama because he was Cute Enough, He Was a Man of Color, and They Knew He Was The Perfect Puppet. The Perfect Puppet is a Blank Page With No Agenda, No Thinking or Talking Points, but was Literate and Articulate Enough To Read Prepared Teleprompter Comments.

The DNC figured all they had to do was Put Their Puppet Obama Up, Pull His Strings, and Handle Him and What He Says and Does Not Say, and they, The DNC and the Mainstream Media and the Obstructionist Liberal Democrat Congress Would Do the Rest.

They, the DNC, knew that the GOP would be Hamstrung running against Obama, because the GOP knew that if anybody Tried To Go After Obama, His Past, His Lack Of Experience, His Lack of Intellect, His Lack of Integrity, His Lack of Loyalty, His Lack of Honesty, or anything else, that they, The GOP or their Candidate, and in this case, McCain, would Have To Tippy Toe Around for The Threat By Obama and the DNC that they Would Play The Tired Old Race Card. The Republicans have been too worried about Political Correctness, etc.

It is time that the GOP and McCain and go after this Impostor and Puppet Marxist Obama. Don't be timid. Tell them right up front that We Ain't Falling For Your Race Card Game. This is not about your Race, Mr. Obama. This is about your Ideas, Your Character, Your Loyalty, Your Backers, Your Lack of Genuine Experience, Your Lack of Knowledge in Domestic and Foreign Affairs.

The tired Old Race Hustling Game is finished. Nobody wants to hear this Excuse for reckless and Irresponsible Behavior any longer.

A WELCOME, CONSTRUCTIVE POST

While I'm not in agreement with the conclusion, J.HOWARD'S 8/4 6:06 AM insult-free, concise and well-stated post ("Please, McCain") provides a basis for rational discussion and should stand as an example to those of us on both sides hoping for a President to pull our conflicted nation together. Well done!

eastlake joe
You are right about the 'boil'. Some folks want to take a chance and let Obama win, thinking it will help rebuild a party. I say,we will never recover from four (or eight)years of Obama and the Democrat congress.

Seawolf
I agree with you on McCain. He MUST let as many people as humanly possible know about the shortcommings of Nobama. this scoundrel is a boil on the posterior of the U.S. He will ruin this country.

McCain is right to point out
the many flaws in obama and the danger of putting this fool in office.
Trying to get people to sit still and understand a policy discussion in this time of sound bites and Oprah etal is a waste of time.

McCain is a known quantity to most older people, make his heroism known to the young voters and compare his service to the nothingness of bambi.

Hit him hard on his commie tax plans, ridicule him at every turn....does he not know the oil companies have stock holders? His $1000 welfare payment idea will kill the co.s and therefore your IRA's.

He's arrogant to the point of being delusional, criticizing Petreaus is like undermining IKE on D-Day...just how stupid IS this clown.

Obama is a wimp hiding behind his smoke and mirrors, he is scared to death of a townhall scenario with JSM where he cannot control the questions and they will come from real smart citizens, not the stupid, fainting, children who show up to see this idiot.

Grumpy Old Man
I much rather have a grumpy old pro-American for president than an high-fallutin',air-head who is anti-American. This is a most important election.

John McCain should take advantage of all the miss-steps Obama is making. If he doesn't point them out,he looks weak and disinterested in his own campaign.

He would get much more support in his endeavors from conservatives if he would give us some indication he wanted our votes. he seems to be coming around, slowly.

Please, McCain
Surely many cannot deny the disappointment in the qualities of the candidates both parties are putting on our ballots next November. The suggestion by Rush that the Republican party is dead because McCain is the nominee is absurd. The Republican party is dead because Republican Senators and Congressmen and the President have failed our nation over and over. Spending by the Republican Congress has been out of control for years. George W. Bush had the veto power to change that but he was a total failure in that respect. We have faced an energy crisis for 40 years during which time both parties even with occasional total control have failed to address the issue. The same can be said for our health care costs. The same can be said for our income tax debacle. In each area of concern, rather than address the issues, for years the Republicans have contributed to the problems.

Fortunately for the Republicans, the Democrats have been equally ineffective. Has anyone considered the possibility that McCain might be able to address some of these failures? His most remarkable talent seems to be the assembly of opposing factions to accomplish a compromised goal. Isn’t this a reasonable basis for his election? The stated positions of all of the men running for the Republican nomination were far from perfect for me, but any one of them would look good by comparison to those from whom the Democrats selected Obama. That selection gave McCain the best chance of election for which a failed Republican party could ask.

I wish those close to McCain would persuade him to return to his old obstructive, compromising self. He might just raise the currently dead Republican party from its self dug grave. Stupid ads featuring Paris Hilton and Britney Spears won’t do it. A return to his own fundamental beliefs that may be in conflict with Rush, Ann and other always negative commentators would be refreshing.

IT DOES NOT MATTER
With only a few exceptions none of you get the fact that BOTH candidates are stooges for the CFR and their globalist agenda. Obama has been supported and guided by them his entire political career. McCain learned in the 2000 primaries that if he wanted to continue in politics he had better learn to play by the CFR's rules otherwise he was done.

The CFR and their globalist partners have done an excellent job of dividing the citizens of this country. Each side even has it's own "boogieman" to scare the population. The dem's have "man made global warming" and the rep's have "the global war on terror". Their ultimate goal is a new world order and one worldwide government. You can call me a tin foil hat wearer or whatever you like. It doesn't change the fact that if you clear your head of your partisan biases you will see that it is the only explanation that makes sense.

Sorry...
Repubs are not anti-negative if it serves an important purpose... I think we're smarter than that pipe dream. In fact, I'm sure it's completely necessary given the circumstances surrounding this race like DanNV#19 points out.

Hillary supporters were crying about not going negative, like only a Hillary supporter would...need i say more?

McCains solution...
...is simple. All he has to do to grab the conservative base is to put up a conservative VP. I'm annoyed with McCain for the same reason every other conservative here is, but a right-wing VP would be a acceptable showing of good measure.

Unfortunately none of the candidates running for pres this season were conservative, not Romney, not Gulianni, definitely NOT Huckabee. Only one I saw was Thompson, who unfortunately is not serious enough.

Jindal sounds pretty good, but my hopes are low.

Anyway, the point still remains.

OWiseOne: Part II
As much as you don't like McCain, we KNOW America can survive a McCain presidency. He's not going to go out of his way to deliberately shipwreck our economy and rebuild America into something socialist. You only have one choice, and to me, it's pretty clear.

Besides, I'm waiting for Bobby Jindall to make his play in 2012 or 2016. As long as there still is an America, Jindall can fix her, without a doubt.

OWiseOne: Part I
Assuming you're not supporting McCain led me to the conclusion that you're supporting Obama. Like it or not, those are your two choices. Any other vote or staying home only helps Obama.

I too am disgusted that McCain is the old horse the RNC and the cross-over voters in the early voting States saddled for us. I'm glad to hear Rush say the RNC as we know it is self-destructing; they pushed conservatism out the back door, proclaiming we need to be more moderate, as America supposedly has become. The RNC believes they don't necessarily need conservative votes. We all know that.

We also have known McCain for years, I remember each and every time he stuck a stick in the eye of conservative. That's why we've labeled McCain as the "Maverick." Does his own thing, regardless of the party; sticks to his guns if he truly believes he's right. I've never known McCain to be a finger-in-the-wind Senator; ever.

McCain has changed his position on off-shore drilling and nuclear because supply hasn't kept up with demand and something like 68% of the American people now demand it. McCain is doing his duty as a US Senator by listening to the will of the people. That isn't a flip-flop; the facts have changed and the solution is obvious.

Because Obama talks like he'd rather be POTWorld instead of POTUS and has an extremely socialist agenda, we can only assume Obama would turn the US over to the UN; probably because Obama would like to be the leader of the UN. Listen to his rhetoric on solving the world's poverty problems and people living on $1 a day. He's openly talking about redistributing wealth.

Cocaine Experimentation OBAMA
Security Clearance ?

Amplify McCain Advantages
Drown out the opponents existance by amplifying the McCain focus to direct America on the right course. Fade out the opponent by becoming the central key spokesman for the McCain agenda. Put forth positive brilliant ideas for managing America. Cast no light on Obama. Make the McCain theme the center of attention. The opponent is chameleon like and every time McCain will put forth new refreshing ideas the opponent will say ; " hey thats a good idea and he will try to steal the idea as if its his own. A little hostile internal hate of your opponent will spirit McCain to fight the good fight even harder. John McCain should continue to make himself the main star and let his opponent be discovered as the inexperienced immature flunky he is. John McCain ride this horse. Don't let it ride you. Business environments are subject to the flow of change. Be flexible. Continue to be creative. Amplify your strong points to preserve the American dream. Front and center Mate.

Tough Decision
In December 1966, when John McCain requested his first combat assignment in Vietnam, Barack Obama turned 5 years old and was enjoying the freedoms a child should enjoy.

As Obama turned 7, McCain had survived a burning jet fire on the USS Forrestal and had just flown his 23rd bombing mission over communist North Vietnam.

In 1973, as Obama reached age 12, McCain was finally released from a prisoner-of-war camp in the Hanoi Hilton.

At age 15, when Obama was still in high school, McCain became the commanding officer of a Naval Training Squadron in Florida. He turned a poorly managed military unit into a distinguished, combat-ready team.

When Obama reached the legal age of 21 and was experimenting with pot and cocaine, McCain declined an admiral promotion and ran for and was elected to Congress.

By 1987, Obama was a young man of 25 and McCain had assumed the office of senator from Arizona (after a successful four-year tour in the U.S. House of Representatives).

At age 36, Obama looked on as Sen. McCain was named one of Time magazine's 25 most influential people in America.

Whom do we choose as our next leader? Do we choose a man with proven military and political achievements, or a man with little experience other than a stint as a community leader and junior senator? Decisions, decisions!

Who wants McCain
Apparently nobody. I live in California and the Democrats have this state completely sewed up. Does anybody have the gall to nominate a real republican for president. Maybe Ann Coulter. All this politically correct Bull is really going to bite us hard. Can somebody ask some real questions about Obama. How did a child from a broken home manage to go to Harvard? Do you know what it costs to go to Harvard? What is the relationship with his family in Africa?

McCain seem to be doing nothing to try to persuade voters to vote for him. Is he for oil drilling. What is special about Alaska? We need the oil. The PC bunch thinks the caribu are more important then American people. And some people actually listen to that BS.

We need a Republican who thinks winning the election and doing something to stop unnecessary taxes and earmarks will be good for the country.

McCain has said he is not going to give up the war against the muslim terrorists.

But not lately.

He said better stuff during the Republican debates.

Please tell me that someone else can be the Republican nominee.

Where is Ann C when we need her?

The 1980 campaign
Zito says the '80 campaign was about Reagan. That's not the way I would describe it. Essentially the question in the mind's of many voters was “was Carter so bad that it justified taking a chance on somebody as different as Reagan”, who espoused an untried conservative policy. So the election could justifiably be said to have been about Carter.

McCain waffles
Two months ago McCain was against oil drilling and against increasing taxes.

Nowadays, who the hell knows what McCain is for. He keeps changing his answers as the polls change. Another good example was after the Guantanamo decision - he saw the polls somewhat in favor of torture, so he switched his position in favor of torture - and here is a guy who was tortured himself and long railed against the Bush admin for this policy. He was against it, and now he's for it.

Political pundits
There are political pundits who criticize aspects of a person's campaign and there are other pundits who think those aspects are wonderful but criticize other other aspects of the campaign. We'll find out when it's all over which critics were right.

The Straight Talk
McCain blows with the wind as does Mr. Obama. These politicians largely just tell us what we want to hear.

McCain Inspiring?
He's inspiring people to stay home in droves. His positions on every issue ispisre conservatives to avoid him like the plague.

More spending -- he's for it.
Bigger government -- he's for it.
Less liberty -- he's for it. (Remember McCain-Feingold?)
Amnesty to illegals -- he's for it.
Higher taxes -- he'll "make the tough decisions". Translated, he's for them.
Pouring billions more down that Iraqi rathole -- he's for it.

In short the only thing McCain inspires is for people to wish he would disappear before the convention so that a better nominee can be found.

Reach Out To Those Not Paying Attention
Most of us have come to the solid conclusion that Obama would be a major detriment to America and our way of life. We KNOW this with every fiber of our beings. Unlike us, who pay close attention to the daily political happenings and examine what they actually mean, lots of people really aren't paying attention beyond what they are told on the MSM: Obama is America's most favorite candidate, everrrrrr!

Talk to the members of your family, all the cousins you haven't spoken to in awhile, the young adults in your family and their impressionable friends, those who are disgusted with McCain and are opting to sit-it-out. Talk to your neighbors, everyone and anyone you come across. Calmly, rationally, logically, non-emotionally explain WHY Obama would be catastrophic to our country.

The Silent Majority might forever have to keep our mouths shut if America is gone and a new & improved socialist America is built. "Now is the time for all good men (and women) to come to the aid of their country!" We need to show up on November 4th and roar.

m.a.
You're absolutely right. Being a conservative, I look at these two and think "You must be joking!" So I figure McCain will escalate the socialism at a less hasty rate, and might not cave when the Muslims attack, and might possibly appoint better Supreme Court Judges. Obama stands for EVERYTHING that is bad for our country, and will incredibly hasten it's rapid decay. Judging by his voting record, anyway. As with most politicians, his word changes with the crowd that he's talking to. If I lived in a state that was heavily commited to one side over the other, I'd vote libertarian, since my vote would be inconsequetial to the outcome. If enough people did this, then perhaps the republican party would learn that to give us some good conservative leadership.

Buck
I don't agree with your assesment at all. I do believe he is a very lame choice to support in the conservative rolls and he will be bad for us if he wins. Do I believe he will be as bad as osamabama? not by a long shot!!! If that dem gets in watch out for taxes to rise like a tidal wave and social services to increase twofold. We will be pushed into a true depression if he is left unchecked. more and more buisinesses will leave this country for lower taxes and wages. Good luck!!!

Bipartisanship
When is Democrat Lite McCain Feingold ever going to show some bipartisanship by supporting a few Republican issues?

Vote for our guy McCain; he is not quite as bad as Saint Obambi.

McCain's Problem...
is himself. He cannot secure the conservative base. We do not trust him. We know he'll kick butt if America is attacked again, but he has too many negatives with conservatives. He has changed his mind on immigration, taxes, guns. When he sopke to LaRaza, he said he was all about immigration reform-"amnesty" in the mind of conservatives. He's all about the farce "global warming" to the extent that he would implement another cap&trade policy. We simply do not trust him; that is why the race is about Obama. Who do we trust least. That, of course, would be Obama. This race has nothing to do with McCain.

Miracle In Minneapolis
The only thing that can save this election for the GOP is a convention that produces a different candidate.

Kudos to John from MA, Dave from TX and wiseone.

McCain Is Smart. McCain Is A Dem Mole
Sometime back in history McCain decided to go into politics. He had a philosophy that could well be described as democrat. but when he went to register as a democrat, someone, somewhere must have talked long to him. They told him to register republican and good things would come to him.
Only that explains his jumping in bed with Kennedy, Feingold et al.
Only that explains why he is so willing to "stick his thumb in his party's eye".

Or to continually intentionally alienate the conservatives in "his" party.
He is a mole. He has sabotaged the republican party in the primaries so there is no true conservative. Only him. Soros' other candidate. He has done well and his final assignment is top throw the election to Obama. Poetic justice, in a way. His final marching orders from Comrade Soros is to deliver his coveted Oval Office to Obama....

I could not disagree more
The McCain Camp has no choice but to draw attention to Barack Obama. Obama is not what he appears to be, he is politically weak, he has no vision, he is ultra liberal, he is pathetic in terms of strategy and strong on liberal talking points.

None of this will ever be communicated to the American people however, because the media simply does not report it. I suspect that the McCain folks are playing the media for all they can.

They (the media) want desperately to frame McCain in a negative light. They believe they are hurting McCain by highlighting his negative assessment of Obama. By so doing, they in fact ensure that the message is actually delivered, which I suspect is exactly what the McCain campaign hopes for.

Bottom line, the media is going to go hyper critical on McCain regardless of his message. If he switches to the issues as so many believe he should, they will simply trash his positions. Better then to pummel your opponent as much as you can before the campaigns begin in earnest after the party conventions.

I agree with you 100% on all of your comments.

Recall Pelosi and Reid
I didn't know who or what laws put Pelosi and Reid in control of the House and Senate until I was told in another column that their Democrat constituents voted them in, but it is time for Americans to keep them from stopping all forward movement in this country. They are the reasons for the 9% polling rate that Congress now has. I've been researching the hows/whys of recalling them for some time, and learned that only their constituents in Congress can start the processes. I've been emailing and calling.

If you agree with me, maybe you would be willing to contact your representatives too. Just tell them to recall these power-mad idiots or you will vote Republican in all elections. That might get their attention. It is time we stopped paying terrorists for oil and became independent by drilling our own wells.

As far as our automobile manufacturers going bankrupt--it is their own fault for refusing to do the research on alternative sources of power and start making our own type of Prius.

I have no sympathy either for people who bought homes they knew they couldn't afford or who continue to live above their means and then expect the government to bail them out.

I am a Republican and lost a lot of respect for Pres. Bush and McCain when he supported the failed Immigration "Amnesty" bill, and also because he has refused to Pardon the unlawfully convicted Border Agents Ramos and Compean. I also don't like to see him getting wishy-washy with Democrats just to get more Bills passed. However, I agreed with him on his 9/11 stance and still think he was correct, though he should have listened to the Officers in the field instead of politicians from the beginning.

One thing I feel really urgently is a sense of doom that our beloved U.S. will become another Socialist dictatorship under Obama.

the b hussein lost years.
for an even more startling picture of b hussein check stanley kurtz's artilce in the weekly standard. You can read it through a link on real clear politics.

The article covers b husseins years in the illinois senate and more of his connections with writght, farrakhan, ayers and dohrn.

It gives an apt description of his philosophy and what the country can expect should the nightmare of his election come true.

Fortunately, that unlike heinz/kerry there is a paper trail detailing b hussein and his political career in illinois as well as a full description of his associates and how they have influenced his thinking.

enjoying the show...
...I know how you feel about TH; I sometimes feel that way myself. but I keep coming back because despite some of the more looney commenters, I have found that this is one of the few sites out there that tolerates, if not encourages, different opinions.

as I wrote on another thread, I've sometimes posted at the liberal site TPM Cafe et al. and divergence from the party line is ABSOLUTELY NOT TOLERATED. I was called a "gutless idiot" there the other day because I dared to say that McCain's "Britney" ad might not have had a deliberate racist sub-text.

there are always going to be wackos who want to spout ad hominem invective, but I hope most of the townhall audience pays no attention to them.

how about it, TH readers?

Despite Everything........

McCain has a chance to win, prevent a left-wing take over and stop immense damage to our the country.

The John Edwards/George Soros/Dennis Kucinich/Barabara Boxer/Barbara Lee radical crowd have been waiting for an Obama to come along all their lives. They have dreamed about it. They just never thought it could happen. One of their own has a chance of being elected President of the country. Their dream has come true!!! The wait is over.

Think about it. GEORGE SOROS.

Think about it. JOHN EDWARDS.

Think about it! DENNIS KUCINICH.

Think about it! BARBARA LEE.

Think about it! BARBARA BOXER.

One more thing. If he WINS, John McCain will not destroy the Republican Party!!!!! However, if he does not win all bets are off.

I won't be a part of turning this country over to the most radical people in the nation. But I will be part of preventing that very thing by voting for McCain.

"Secure your BAse"!

Missing the obvious....
McCain and Obama can't close each other out. They have split the available voters who are inspired by leftist rhetoric roughly in half.

Obama has secured as many voters as is in his ideological sphere. McCain forget the real "first rule of politics" which is

Kudos to Jim from KY
I agree with your entire message. It is about our Freedoms. No one else seems to think about them. Maybe if we convince the voters to rise up in rebellion, we can force bills to be added into all elections that will stop political corruption. That means to stop earmarks, put term-limits on all politicians, stop all of our justice systems from bypassing the Constitution to write their own laws, and take away the powers from Congressional leaders that allows them to stop all voting by their constituents or even to hamstring the President.

The other message that McCain needs in his face is that if he wants to run as a Republican, he needs to be as loyal to their beliefs as he is to America. In addition to protecting us from terrorists, that means: closed borders (the promised fence and deportation of all criminals without hesitancy) and no amnesty or benefits to illegals that even our citizens don't get; no future earmarks for any politician; agree to drilling in ANWR, stop recognizing global-warming fear-mongering yet to be proven; and turn welfare benefits into Work-fare benefits for all able-bodied recipients. Mothers can work in day-care centers, where they can take their own children and care for children of other recipients. There is all kinds of work for other people, some that illegal immigrants are currently doing, while sending all their earnings back to their own countries. If law-abiding immigrants want to become U.S. citizens, let them come in the legal way, instead of jumping the line over those aready trying to do so.

Doc / Primus / Buck
Doc - you need to go for your own congessional / senate or local conservative (and McCain?)this year, I agree.
Primus - Cheers to you too! I'm just putting out what I think. Good luck to your candidates!

Buck - couldn't define ya, don't understand ya!

I'm thinking it might be a tough year for the right.

McCain - fight club by Zito
An old political adage says, “He who sets the debate wins the election.”

If the presidential election was held tomorrow, it would be hello President Barack Obama because, so far, John McCain is handing him a victory

DISAGREE: It was a couple weeks ago that Dick Morris said the best way for McCain was to get the focus on Obama and define who he is (what ever that happens to be????) and he is doing that and has moved up in the poles.

For dave
It looks like you and I are inalmost complete agreement.

The only difference I can discern is that you think McCain knows exactly where he wants to go (dead left) and is refusing to tell us because he knows he'll get no support from the right if he does.

McCain Wants to Lose
The Good Lord only knows why. And that's the bottom line.

Mac's more than half-way socialist as it is; he managed to eliminate Obama's real competition and is now just coasting along waiting to lose.

Who knows, maybe he has some terminal something that he isn't telling anyone about and sure wouldn't want his VP to take the chair and maybe reverse the socialist programs [pograms??].

Is there a better reason for his [in]actions?

Reply to Pancho and others
The "elites" my young nephew spoke of were the professional politicians and those who have come out of the universities having been brainwashed in liberalism. And that would describe him.

I am a woman married 50 years, wife, mother, grandmother, Church going Catholic, who has paid taxes, run a home and business, retired, raised a wonderful family, have kids who themselves now have good families and do the same, help each other. I support the pro life causes, and think that people should be responsible for choices they make, and try to make the best of themselves. I also believe in the virtues of charity and compassion, and just laws to govern a civilized society.

My nephew thinks I represent everything that is wrong about this country. He thinks the "elite" have more wisdom.

Somehow, I just can't bring myself to genuflect at the altar of Obama and the "elite".

I disagree..
...McCain needs to keep criticizing Obama in the even handed way he has so far...the major difference you ignore here is the levels to which the media is in the tank for BO unlike we've ever seen before. Sticking to issues is very important but so is showing your opponents colors and as the media won't, McCain must.

Oh, Wiseone
Re: "Does it occur to anyone but me that McCain doesn't tell us ... because he doesn't know where he wants to lead us?"

Mackie told us ad nauseum where he wants us to go - and it all but sunk him last summer (2207). Now he doesn't tell us for the same reason. He hopes conservatives (not rinos) have forgotten his past betrayals of GOP ideology and he is carefully refraining from remionding us.

At the same time, he is looking like a wussy! He even condemns "friends" who exposes Barack Hussein Obama. WHY??????

Cant resist
one more post here… the real “war” is against the middle class… Wake up folks, or your kids will not inherit their own country, they will inherit the third world.

People who only see
everything in extremes have lost any argument before it even starts. I regularly see conservatives on TH define Obama as a communist, pederast, junkie, muslim terrorist and marxist who is hoping to get elected so he can confiscate your pick-ups and Rush Limbaugh tapes.

Is there anybody who posts here who can even grasp the concept of not-all-black-and-white? Are you ever able to see life as something that is not always written in absolutes?

Even more awesome is the apparent fact that you seem to inspire each other to become more and more simplistic and reductive. I don't get it, but I'm done with TH after today and will try to find a conservative site elsewhere that is actually a forum among grownups who can find pleasure in ideas and true challenges and don't confuse true debates with anti-Americanism and food fights.

For Brickhouse
I have been posting on TH for more than four years. I defy you to find one statement I have ever made in any post that can even be construed as supporting any liberal for any reason.

The fact that McCain makes me want to puke does not mean I support Obama, or that I believe in his "messiah" persona.

What it means is that I agree with Rush, who said "If McCain or Huckabee gets the nomination it will be the end of the Republican Party as we know it."

The McCain nomination constitutes the single most willfully suicidal act of any political party in this country's history. It has been perpetrated by a bunch of selfish, weenie RINOs who will be perfectly happy to live forever as a permanent minority party as long as they get to keep their own Senate and House seats and their own positions of power in the GOP.

Take a look at Sasparilla's post at 1:55 PM. The same elitism he describes in that post is alive and at work at the moderate-run GOP.

If you want a good grip on what I think, I agree with John in his 4:45 AM post. Dump McCain and let's have an open convention where only Republicans have a say-so in who we nominate.

BTW - I notice you didn't bother to refute the charge that McCain is a soulless finger-in-the-wind political hack who is only a Republican by accident. Is that because you have no defense for it?

O WiseOne Supports Obama?
All of these things you find fault with McCain are very level-headed issues. Applying your same standard of measure, apply these to your Messiah; McCain suddenly looks competent, experienced, patriotic, sincere, and qualified.

I heard yesterday that Obama was born Barry Dunham. Why would he change his name to Barack Hussein Obama. Sort of like Casius Clay changing his name to Mohammad Ali. What would prompt Barry to change his name to something Muslim, unless he became Muslim? Isn't the Nation of Islam providing body guards and security for Barry?

Lastly, how on earth can you defend Barry's great plan to deal with our energy problem: properly inflating our tires? Your guy is a joke, a scary one at that.

We aren't voting for him. Period.

He doesn't know where he wants to go.
"...why isn’t McCain telling voters where he wants to lead them?"

Does it occur to anyone but me that McCain can't tell us where he wants to lead us because he doesn't know?

This guy is just as clueless as Obama. That's what comes from having no firm political ideology other than "I want to get elected again."

How can McCain claim to be a conservative when he admits he knows little about economics; resulting in this so-called conservative voting against tax cuts (three times)?

How can this so-called conservative lead when, just like the weenie RINOs and moderates who gave away Congress by supporting amnesty and deficit budgets, McCain chooses what he thinks will be the PC position instead of the moral, ethical, useful, or conservative one?

Opposing drilling in ANWR may please the NYT, but it is not the conservative position. The same goes for all other policies based on fear of global warming, amnesty for illegals, McCain-Feingold, and high taxes.

McCain has offered no plan to balance the budget (vetoing pork, which he won't have the stones to do as Prez, won't balance the budget when the main budget bill presented to the Prez by Congress is already $4 billion in the red). He has only agreed to build the fence in bitter reluctance. He has only agreed to drill the outer continental shelf AFTER gas hit $4/gallon. Where was McCain's wisdom and LEADERSHIP in preventing this fiasco?

He has none. He is a shameless, finger-in-the-wind politician, just like Obama and Clinton. He is a Republican by accident of birth and convenience.

He is the candidate least deserving of his Party's nomination for President in my lifetime. He and his weenie RINO buddies at the RNC make me want to puke.

Let's examine
Elite -

> My jaw dropped when he declared to me that the elite must run things, because ordinary people have no knowledge. He also let me know that the ELITE shouldn't be influenced by petitions from constituents. They follow their OWN idealogy. The scary thing is that he actually believes that!<

The word elite defines a person who has excelled in their field to the point that they are placed in a category above the average or even the better in whatever categorization is being used.

Examples of elites are Tiger Woods, Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, Barry Bonds, Steven King, Tom Hanks, the Bushes, the Clintons and Tony Hawk. Who is your nephew referring to, specifically? Politicians in general?

>the ELITE shouldn't be influenced by petitions from constituents<

Words
The leaders of the "liberals" want to be the new aristocracy. The ideology is only relevant as a tool.

The worst thing (of many bad things) anyone can say about McCain is that Obama has a solid chance to beat him. Look at what a pile of dung Obama is.

How much of this is Soros working behind the scenes? Is he behind such a weak candidate as McCain running for the Republicans?

The dumbist?
Typo or self-identification?

Pancho
Are you for real??? You gotta be kidding or the dumbist dunce ever!!!!

ok...
I thought the Paris/Britney ad was stupid but I got the point and I agree. Obama is as vacuous as these pop princesses. on the other hand, the "The One" internet ad is hilarious and spot on.

So now: McCain's given me plenty of reasons to vote against Obama. but when is he going to give me even ONE reason to vote FOR the GOP?

(from a typical, bitter, white former Hillary supporter)

Words that mean nothing
in this thread:

Elite
Marxist
Real conservative
Dictator
Freedom

Words used in a hysterical context, without benefit of logical analysis, become meaningless ploys of propoganda, which, ironically, is what most posters using these words are accusing others of.

Sasparilla
My simpathies as I have a niece who has fallen prey to the indoctrination of the liberal academia and believes all that socialistic crap as well. Our only hope is getting out the message that truth is denied and it is mostly evil men that seek office for their own gain and we the dummies let them vote on their own entitilements of everlasting perks, life long politician recieving life long welfare at our (the people's) expense. Term limits would at least rid us of our poor choices, removal of perks would not make it a career but we all know that can never happen even if the people want it to, they for for themselves not us

Agree with Madashell Grandma from AZ
You are right on. This agenda is outlined in the Alinsky training and Obama is using it. Worse yet, the so called Social Justice community organized groups have their plans in place for the coming election, at least here in TX, heavily in your state and throughout the USA.
A nephew of mine is a paid campaigner for Obama. My jaw dropped when he declared to me that the elite must run things, because ordinary people have no knowledge. He also let me know that the ELITE shouldn't be influenced by petitions from constituents. They follow their OWN idealogy. The scary thing is that he actually believes that!

Obviously, the campaign is conducted simply to exploit segments of the American people and get votes. After that, the dictator takes over and everyone belongs to the state, handing over our earnings in taxes and receiving whatever the "great one" deems to be "socially just".

Not a pretty picture for America, the land of opportunity, freedom, life and .iberty

To Ken, right on
Glad to hear there are those of us aware of the enemy and the CFR is worth a look see by every voting citizen to see how we are being railroaded not to mention the EU and the Lisbon Treaty. The New World Order is merely changed it's name to the EU soon to be "The Untied States of Europe" with it's constitution being the renamed Lisbon Treaty so long and complicated as to insure the unthinking among us won't read it much less understand it. Yup 27 member nations are willing to sign away their country's sovereingty and Ireland being pressured for not doing so, God help Ireland they need all the help they can get!

America on its finald death march!
If the Founding Fathers have any credibility left by America, her actions presently more and more prove them nothing but idiots! Yes, while constantly invoking them for support for all that is going on in America and what America is doing with its inhumane and horrendous war machinery circling the globe. America not Empire, how so?

Most certainly it includes the fact that presently America is the mass grave of over 52+ million of unborn American babies, actually murdered in the wombs of America mothers, most certainly including so called Christian mothers, for no other reason than convenience and for the sake of the mighty dollar.

This, by the nation under God and claims to trust in God Almighty; the one who ispired some young, non military fellows to kick the behind of the brutal British Empire.

Enough said for now, to rest my case! Ron Paul will remain my man, as a legal immigrant of 52+ years and a staunch conservative Christian Republican! My prayr for America: God have mercy a little longer upon America, per chance she repents and return to the pass God intented for her to follow in the first place, yes, dear God, please, Amen!

With Obama, say goodby to FREEDOMS
Obama is self destructing. If a man has set himself on fire, and you want him to be destroyed, get out of the way and let him do so. McCain however does not need to wait too long to start punching with the positive message. Here it is: "Let us stand together for FREEDOM: FREEDOM from terror by staying on the offensive, FREEDOM from dependency on mideastern oil, FREEDOM from excessive taxation that ruins individuals, businesses, and the economy, FREEDOM from judicial tyranny from legislating judges, and FREEDOM from tariffs that destroy the economy. LET FREEDOM RING! As soon as more people realize they will lose freedoms under Obama, he is toast.

Outline of Where McCain want............
to take the average American and this great nation has be spelled out and given to the people.
Unfortunately you have hundreds of belittlers on this sight. in the press and other media calling him McShame, McLamo and the alike, that they and others cannot here where it is he'd like us to be in the next 4-8 years.
People like Dancing Bear from AZ, a DEM no doubt but still a distractor, Anne from VA is another, as is lumberjack7293 from TX and many many more.
All they do is whine about how much gas is and the cost of oil. We need people like myself and Sasparilla from TX, who hear him and are working to get him elected.
But in fight club you have several modes of attack, one is the direct over power him aproach, another is the big swing one punch assault, and one more is the bob and weave till your opponient it tired and everyone that has heard him is shaking their head as to what is it he is saying, then clear the air/or room with him.
Obama sways left right back and forth so much his supporters cannot tell you where he stands or where he is coming from and going to.
In the end it will be no where.

What this election is really about is the rate at which we will surrender our freedom. Your attention is invited to "An Introduction to Modern Political Theory",3rd ed., Norman P. Barry where he states that governments in the 20th century have been in swaying between a collectivist and individualist premise. The election of Johnson tipped the balance to collectivization (although Barry doesn't mention Johnson by name but does designate the year as early 1960s). Collectivization is the surrender of individual freedom and is the thrust of Fascism, Communism and Socialism. Each of which has been shown to be a fiasco but is continually resurrected with a new vocabulary to delude the population that is being continually dumbed down. The phoenix that has arisen from the ashes of ignorance is termed "Communitarianism" and its driving force is Global Warming and the Green movement.

There is no doubt in my mind that this scenario is succeeding and in a true Orwellian sense, succeeding generations will be calling slavery freedom. The only criteria are the policys expressed, and the previous actions of the candidates as perhaps a murky crystal ball as to their future actions. Indeed, Both candidates have shifted in varying degrees from previous positions in an obvious to some and not so obvious to others to stances designed to win the election.

Oh, by the way, Obama's comment that illegals need not have to learn English we should learn Spanish I find egregious! While I am very much in favor of individual multilingualism, All citizens of a nation must speak a common language!.

Best regards form the 18th century,

More in line with Jeff reply #8
The way it works in this country is that a Democrat win represents the two steps and the Republican wins the one step back. This serves to confuse the great unwashed whose mind is diverted with sports, reality shows, vapid talk shows (Oprah, The View,) news that isn't news or is heavily biased and a whole mélange of single issues designed to keep the electorate's eyes off the ball of the elitists agenda. In this vein, McCain represents a very weak step back.

Instead of focusing on the alleged differences of the two candidates, carefully inspect those issues where they seem to agree or those issues that are very much on the mind of the population, e.g., illigal immigration and credible border security that suddenly have dropped below the radar in campaign rhetoric. Does this signify that basically open borders will occur regardless of the electoral outcome?

What is the difference?
The CFR must run both of these guys. Ovomit has never had a thought of his own, McNasty is so busy telling us how he admires B. Hussain Ovomit that he just might vote for him. It is a secret ballot.

McNasty buys into the global warming scam, the oil shortage scam, has initiated unconstitutional legislation to protect the incumbants and restrict speech and will surrender to Mexico but not the muslims.

One is a marxist, the other is a democrat with an "R" after his name.

Whig Party R Us!
God Help the USA!

Jeff you are so right Reply #8
Most liberal forget yesterday's History? Hmm? How's it go? "Those who are ignorant of the Lessons of History are condemned to repeat them??"
Be advised, political parties are merely mechanisms to procure the votes for power. The underlying philosophies of those who control the mechanisms determine where the power takes us. In a 1962 article in "The New Republic" Walter Lippman stated that the best way to control a Democracy was to control both parties (aka mechanisms) and give the people the illusion of a choice.
The way this works is that the elite that controls the mechanism apportions its agenda so that regardless of the electoral outcome, the agenda is advanced. Consider NAFTA, both Bush and Clinton supported it. McCain supports it openly and Obama rhetorically opposes it. However, awhile back, Obama's staff was in contact with Canadian officials saying that the NAFTA status quo was not really going to be changed and may even be improved. NAFTA is part of the Globalization infrastructure which is very much the desired objective of the Elite (of all nations) because it is a euphemism for World Government. My nephew who is a bartender/waiter in Arizona was very recently working at a NAACP convention in Phoenix and he said that the main topic was "Globalization" how desirable it would be; how Obama would take them to the promised land. Mao Tse Tung had the population of China doing the Communist 3 step which is "Two steps forward; one step back" which is a metaphor for political progress to Socialist utopia...Or control by the elite, aka the vanguard of the proletariat.

Better a third term
for George W. Bush than a second term for Jimmy "Malaise" Carter!

Zito is stoned
Yes, what foolishness. I think McCain should ask Obama out on a date and then love him up some.

The real problem with Dole was that he was so POOR in pointing out Clinton's negatives.

At least McCain is taking a shot at it. And though I despite the old fool for being a RINO (a bit like Zito), I can assure you that he will likely not be the disaster Obama is.

Still, it will likely not make a difference anyway.

Let's get behind our Warrior!
McCain is a warrior. He must to fight to win in this election. And WE need to get into it big time. Fighting to win should excite his side, instead of all this equivocating about who is conservative enough. C'mon folks, our country and future is at stake here.

Obama says McCain will try to scare people.. Heck, Obama scares me all by himself. He is making light of the real concerns people have about him (it is a tactic) which are exactly the things Obama will conceal until after the election. His mentors, his Alinsky influence, his Marxist ideas, his arrogance, his pompous self righteusness, his tone towards others, his lack of experience, his unnsound ideas, his lack of principles, his liberalism, etc. I could go on and on.

In spite of this, if WE conservatives continue to end every statement with some negative hint about our candidate McCain, then we are the ones to blame when Obama and his Marxist ideas are crammed down our throats; more abortion on demand, euthanasia, same sex marriage, racial divisions, finger pointing, more and more taxes, less and less human freedom.

We can and must pump enthusiasm and our strength into McCains campaign.

Tell you what! It will scare the h___ out of the Obama camp if we really get behind McCain and seriously gave more than lip service to this election.

Hand wringing won't do it, but activity and enthusiasm will!

I hope the readers will agree.

Republicans Lose - Nothing to Offer
I stopped listening to Laura Ingrahama because all she does is play Obama's speaches & then criticize.

Obama is an anti-european racist and a marxist. I get it. Stop giving him free campaign coverage.

What does McCain have to offer other than 4 more years of Bush? Amnesty? Big government programs? Trashing the Constitution to protect incumbents? Appeasement of the liberal fascists? Selling out european-americans for a handful of Mexican votes? Bending over to pick up Ted Kennedy's soap? Glomal warbling strangulation of our way of life? Making moon-eyes at Hillary? Barf me out.

I know what Obama is. What the hell are the Republicans?

The EIB Network
> Rush Limbaugh is on the EIB Network. It's not part of the MSM and has a interesting story behind it.<

There is no EIB network. Limbaugh's show is owned and operated by Premiere networks which is owned by Clear Channel which is most definetly the MSM.

The first rule of putting a column on TH: You need to tell posters what they want to hear.

McCain has figured that out which we can see by his adolescent ads that focus on white media tarts instead of issues. One thing about Karl Rover, he may not have scruples but he understands what makes conservatives tick. He understood it when he got them all to elect a president - twice - who gave us virtual bankruptcy, a war that will last forever, a crumbling infrastructure, a disastrous school
system and rising unemployment by convincing his conservative constituency that it was the only way to discourage gay sex, and its powerto bring down western civilization as we know it.

McCain and Obama
Both these guys are going to sell us out even more. Both want to give amnesty to all the illegals which I am strongly against. I am still only going to vote for either Tom Tancredo or Angus Young.

We play in the leftovers.
We talk around the permanent residual effects of cocaine; amorality, overt narcissism.

Sadly, whomever gets elected come November will have no supporters by the end of 2009. The 2 identity candidates i remember, JFK and Peanut Jimmie, had to have been elected by ghosts, because within a couple years no one would admit to having voted for them. McCain and Obama voters will take the same route, no matter who wins. I'm looking for a bumper sticker that says don't blame me, i voted for Donald Duck.

Forget REAGAN !!
Nobody under 35 remembers Reagan, those over 45 are remembering a fantasy. STOP mentioning the man. It accentuates the age of McCain like of bunch of old farts at the home talking about their youth. STOP IT!!!

McCain Will Lose

Not because of poor campaigning but rather America is sick of Bushism. At this point the electorate fully understands what Bushism, originating in George I’s reign, really means.

1. Unlimited illegal immigration

2. Eradication of the middle class

3. Big government meddling in every aspect of daily life

4. More quotas and set asides

5. Cynical waste of military resources to further the globalist agenda

6. Denigration of the Bill of Rights

7. Ongoing sellout of Conservative principles

An Obama administration will be bad. However, if we wish to pass some elements of individual and economic freedom on to future generations, we must reclaim the Republican Party by rejecting John McCain and his K Street handlers.

BAD READ ZITO

.....Turn in your political pundit card ...you've flunked ...

.....This election is not about McCain at all ...he might as well be a cardboard cut-out ...this election is all about OBAMA ...

.....The reason the polls are so close is not because of what is "unknown" about OBAMA ...it is close because of what "is" known ...his radical background ...his Marixist ideas ...his shady associates ....

.....McCain doesn't have to do anything to win ...he is a known commodity ...the onus is on OBAMA ...he has to convince enough voters to ignore his radical roots and to believe that he is a patriotic, loyal American that would be good for the Country ...a tough sell in my opinion .....COLOSSUS

Rules of The Fight? Club
One thing i haven't seen much of from McCain is "fght". In my humble opinion Carney is blowing it by concentrating his attack on Obama. He should elevate the issues to the Democratic party in D.C. Namely Pelosi, Reid, Murtha, etal, AND Obama thereby making the attacks less personnal. They have given McCain plenty of ammunition over the last 2 years, from the Irag war, taxes, oil drilling, ad infinitum. He should be highlighting all of their obstructionism and nay saying and link it to Obama the fellow traveller. After all, isn't that the same tactic the Dems use against their opponents when they constantly refer to he links to Bush? Carney had better wake up.

If your desire is that no conservative wins the presidency in 2008 - then you are correct - you have already won.

I thought you were an "Obama or bust" kind of guy.

I stand corrected...

Cheers.

Messing with the Calendar

SALENA ZITO writes: "If the presidential election was held tomorrow, it would be hello President Barack Obama because, so far, John McCain is handing him a victory."

And if the presidential election was held tomorrow, Christmas would be September 25.

Like I have always said, you RWcons have already lost. That's what I care about primo!

This is only partly true. We have only lost in the way of McCain being the presumptive nominee. So it will come down to how many of us cons hold our nose, hope for a conservative nominee for VP. He already has the dim votes he will get from billary, so the election will come down to independents and the cons that are willing to hold their nose. He does stink. But the other guy stinks much worse of elitism and socialism.
So the libs with slogans like, he has already lost or he can't win are like the BDS they carry around, it is all in their heads.

gofer, good post at 1:25. But I have to
dispute one thing you said:

The GOP "adheres to the Constitutional principles."

That may have been somewhat true with the GOP in congress under Clinton (1995-2000). But the GOP's record on constitutional principles since Bush took office is abysmal:

- no consideration of enumeration of powers (spending out of control).

- trample states' rights (NCLB, medical pot, Terri Schiavo).

- Trample the 1st Amendment (McCain-Feingold). True, 38 GOP senators voted against it, but the current GOP POTUS signed it, the current GOP nominee created and pushed it, and the SCOTUS with 7/9 justices appointed by the GOP approved it.

The GOP adheres to constitutional principles when it agrees with what they want done.

Oh - and don't confuse me for a liberal - I am as pro-life as they come (although I differ with the Pope on the death penalty for the clearly guilty). I think the Terri Schiavo situation was wrongly handled by Florida. But there is nothing in the constitution that enumerates to the federal government the right to interfere in that situation, so by the 10th Amendment the right to decide that question is reserved for the state and/or people.

I'm already celebrating the election of a non conservative, non right wing candidate as president of the USA. I will be here well into the next admin. if you would care to wager?

JERABAUB, PISTOL, PHIL BYLER, OTHERS

jerabaub: Fine post! Agreed! Obama IS the key for a McCain victory.. "The more folks learn about Obama, the more problems they have with him". The Obama staff knows their are more "Rev" Wright types out there. And they hate it when Wright, William Ayers or someone like this depraved, sick rapper, Ludacris are mention in the same sentence with Obama.

All of which brings us to the MSM, the entertainment and the cultural media. Liberals own it. They run with it an iron hand. But they don't own Fox News, Conservative Talk Radio AND....... Townhall!!!! The best part? The liberals and the Obama camp can't do a thing about it! They control everything else but they can't stop Rush, Sean, Bill O, Michelle, Ann, Laura, Fox News and Townhall. Thank God for that!

Pistol: If Obama was a serial killer suspect the left would still vote him.

Phil Byler: Agreed! "The Obama campaign has to make Obama an issue." Hey. Who are we talking about here? We're talking about a kid who has had a cup coffee in the senate and has voted one way on every single issue. The left-wing, hardcore, liberal way. This is what the Obama staff does not want mentioned! Obama IS a left-wing, hardcore, liberal and IS supported by some of the most dangerous, far left radicals in America today.

wrightsrong52
I am going to thoroughly enjoy listening to you whine on November 5th after Obama's sound defeat - that is, if you have the guts to show up here on that day.

More likely - you will "lose" your bookmark to Townhall - never to grace us with your presence again.

Get out of the way...
There is an old axiom that goes something like this:

"When your opponent is making a fool of himself - don't interrupt."

It is clearly evident - after all the swooning media hype about Barack's summer presidential internship world tour - that the electorate is quickly tiring of the messianic act.

Obama has "misunderestimated" the backlash most Americans have whenever a so-called "leader" goes abroad and essentially "apologizes" for our imperfections.

Obama should be polling at 60 to 70% - but has never cracked the magical 50% number.

And he's fading fast...

Barack is unelectable.

sam the sham
The article pointed out that D. Cheney in a meeting with his members and considered the idea of killing Americans in order to start the IRAN war. It was rejected however.

do you or this “alternative media.” Have any real proof? Or you just going to stand around and slander the man and accuse him of the murder of Americans? Iran does not need any help with that, they have been doing very well all on their own.

I am still waiting for McCain
to act like he is friends with Republicans, and the oponent of the Democrats.

He goes out of his way to be courteous to the nation's worst socialists, and talks tough to those of us who are supposed to be his allys.

What is wrong with this picture?

It's not 1980, it's1917 in Russia
The media and barack Obama have defined Obama for more than a year without hindrance.

McCain and the Media pretty much defined him, too. But McCain's image of choice portrays him as super patriot, military hero, "maverick", stay in Iraq forever, amnesty for illegals, and chief promoter of the WW II/Cold War world view.

Trouble is, rhat image ain't selling too well with voters, and the media has deserted McCain. The moment McCain was assured the nomination, hia age surfaced in the media along with new pictures of him walking slow, whispery voice, and with wrinkles and doubling chin.

But the media is still with Obama.

Perhaps the main task for McCain is to change the Image of Obama from super positive to really negative. McCain has no choice but to expose the real Obama and change the public's mind about the candidate of "change".

No reason to believe McCain will be able to do, or even has will to try.

The worst two presidential candidates in history--brought to the american voter by the Main Stream Media (and campaign consultants).

Oncea marine
You are exactly right.Johnny Mac should keep the O on the defense.

Zito
no one wants a grumpy old man. But it is starting to become the theme of the republicans, tho! All of you RWcon TH posters come off as angry oldsters! esp Apollo Speaks, what's your story?

If it were today
The election is McCain's to win or lose. Now is the time to step up. Tell us what and how you plan on getting thins done. I don't care what Obama has done or can not do. It is about issues and answers. Not words and empty promises.

Loyal Democrat
was my favorite poster, but OncealwaysaMarine is moving up fast. Clear thinker.

Offense or Defense..
Carney the strategist has misplayed one very important aspect. There could be dozens of minions to cover McCains flanks (names like Hannity, Zito, etc...) And while he calmly stays on offense, they could react ferociously to anything they choose, without smearing McCain, who acts as the 'great peacemaker' if things get too hot in the press, and need a calm mediator (e.g., Obama after Rev. Wright). It's also a good way to test the waters on certain topics(e.g., Michelle's rants).

Right now, McCain looks like a little bulldog, yapping at Obama's heels, and has lost all dignity by playing this role... and one would think dignity comes with age and wisdom....

This may be why Obama often leads or ties in the polls, without ever saying anything the same way twice!

Wrong Analysis
Wrong. The chief problem that John McCain has is the high negative that the Republican brnad has right now. Separate from the Presidential race, which is back to being even, the Democrats are far ahead of the Republicans.

The McCain campaign has to make Obama an issue. McCain has been telling people for over a year where he wants to lead; so it is not a matter of McCain not outlining a vision. McCain's heath care plan was and is by far the most innovative in terms of using a market approach as opposed to state oriented Hillary- care or Obama-care. But for McCain to win, people have to realize the consequences of electing an inexperienced, anti-military socialist in Obama.

Nothing wrong
with calling out the negatives. God knows BO has been doing it for months. No criticism there? This article sounds like the 'stop picking on obama' msm theme.

Not knowing where McCain stands or his vision for the future? As if we know where Obama stands? Yeah, sure, BO has been crystal clear on that one. McCain should trash BO one more time by bringing up Mr. European Union, world citizens', refusal to do even 1 townhall debate against McCain.

Jerebaub
Obama has set new standards for flip flops, but so far i haven't seen any indications that this fact has bothered any of his supporters. Maybe the far left envirodolts don't like his new drilling stance, but if so, they haven't protested in any media i monitor. His moves to cater to basic public opinion have shown how far out of the mainstream he and black liberation theology are. Apparently his ideas don't really matter to his core supporters. Identity is all.

McCain must make Obama the issue.
This past week has been a bad one for Obama.

His lead in the polls has pretty much vaporized.

And just yesterday he was compelled to change his position on domestic drilling.

I don't think McCain is inspirational at all.

Not in the classic sense of a politician speaking eloquently, enthralling people with his speeches.

His past is a source of inspiration, replete with courage.

But running for president is about offering a vision for the future.

I don't know what McCain's vision is.

I don't think he has one that is all that inspirational and uplifting.

But that does not matter.

The more folks learn about Obama, the more problems they have with him.

Just pointing out Obama's positions, referencing his past comments, is not going negative(NOT so much Obama's associations...people already know about them and for McCain HIMSELF to dwell upon those associations might be seen as a bit tawdry).

IF gasoline prices get down to say $3.50 a gallon between now and the election, it probably will help McCain.

But Obama is doing much better than expected among Hispanics, and they are decisive in a few battleground states.

I think it's gonna be a closer election than some think.

Ditch McCain; Open Republican Convention
Dear Ms Zito,

When the DNC and the NYTimes put together a focus group to test various slogans, to see which slogans resonate best with the electorate, they look for a certain personality type: a person who is somewhat uninformed; somewhat pretentious; a person looking for a way to appear superior to other people; attracted to counter-intuitive positions; a sense that he or she is not shown sufficient deference by others; a need to inconvenience others to demonstrate their own superior enlightenment and sensitivity.
McCain is the prototypical personality those who put together a focus group are looking for.
He is the archetypical Dope.

He is the type who will sign on to the Global Warming Hoax without questioning it. He won't see that it is more than a way to inconvenience us. It is a way to institute complete control over our lives and rights.

He will advocate Open Borders and Amnesty so he can sneer at us as "racists." He won't consider that allowing into our country huge, unassimilable numbers of people who don't like us, are illiterate and untalented, and think we stole their country in the first place is a plan to turn us into a third world dump, but a special one: a dump divided against itself. And it will guarantee a permanent democrat party domination.

On two issues that guarantee the destruction of America, McCain is on the wrong side. Worse, these two issues have been removed from public discussion and debate. The campaign should be all about those two issues. Democrats on one side, Republians on the other side.

It is pathetic to read conservative columnists constantly trying to advise and encourage McCain to actually wage a winning campaign.

There is a better way. It is the only way to survival: Encourage McCain to withdraw his name from the nomination process and encourage the pledged delegates he lied and connived to obtain to refuse to vote for this pretentious liberal democrat.

Make Obama
the issue. He is so weak, he will not be able to get his negatives down. Look how fast his "presidential tour" bump evaporated. It seems to be dawing on people that he stands for nothing but his own political ambition. At the end of the campaign, McCain should remind people of the kind of man he is. For now get people to focus on the fact that the messiah has no clothes.

Grumpy Old Man?
Grimm's fairy tale on steroids? Bluebirds & unicorns? Fight Club?

Zito as 'political analyst'?

This column sounds like a sixth-grader's attempt to punch-up the school newspaper.

Label it Goofy.

This Ain't No Popularity Contest!!
I'm glad Ms.Zito is NOT advising McCain. She writes: "He himself is reinforcing this campaign is all about Obama" says Democrat strategist Mark Siegel,"His ads and his message are all negatives. The problem with that is, it is driving up his negatives as well."

SHE QUOTES A DEMOCRAT STRATEGIST TO MAKE HER CASE?!! It seems that she is the only one "Forgetting the first rule of the fight club"!!

RULE NO.1-NEVER TAKE ADVICE ON HOW TO WIN FROM THE ENEMY!! Duh

Listen lady, this campaign is ALL about Obama. The Mainstream media has made damn sure of that!! They follow his every move here and abroad lapping him up one side and down the other. McCain IS NOT going to win a popularity contest in the media!

You ever hear of Judo or Ju-Jitsu? The ONLY way McCain can beat this media darling is to expose his many & myriad faults for ALL to see.

You'd do well to stop listening to DEMOCRAT STRATEGISTS, and start commenting on what's WRONG about this erstwhile Messiah, yourself!!

McCain verus Obama
McCain and the Republicans need to quit being so weak and giving into the Democrats. Congress and the House of Reps were elected to represent the people that elected them. They are so out of touch and could care less what the people want. Our country is slowly being led into Socialism because they think the American people are stupid. Quit wasting our monies on pork barrel spending. Get the Social Security monies that has been used for everything but Social Security back and quit taxing the people for everything. Follow the law and get rid of the illegals. I for one resent having my tax monies going to pay for their hospitalization, schooling and anything else they seem to think they are intitled to. They should speak English and ballots should be in English only.

What Planet Is Zito On?
How is McCain handing Obama the election? I don't know where this columnist has been for the past week, but McCain has got Obama stuttering all over himself with his exposure of Obama's playing the race card. Obama's so rattled that now he's FOR DRILLING!! Not to mention this insane NEW proposal he came out with Saturday to TAKE oil company profits to "put into people's pockets!"LMAO

Homey is DESPERATE!!

It' not McCain who is running from debate, it's Obama. McCain should call him out, everyday!!

Starting TODAY McCain should goad Obama relentlessly in the media, at appearances, in campaign ads on the Internet & on TV telling the American people that Obama is dodging debate on the ISSUES THAT CONCERN THEM MOST. He should CONTRAST Obama's claiming racist intent in his personal campaign appearances, while carefully seeking to avoid HONEST or SUBSTANTIVE DEBATE.

McCain should then lay out a LIST of the serious issues facing this country and say that it is a afront to the voters that the presumptive nominee of the Democrat Party will not provide them the TRADITIONAL FORUM to allow each candidate to have to defend his positions in a face-off with his opponent.

Judging by the "deer-in-the-headlights" look Obama had on his face in that last debate with Hillary Clinton, it is obviously clear why he is running from McCain's challenge now!!

If McCain can SHAME him into agreeing to debates he clearly is afraid of, Obama's body language (after having been forced to debate & with his extreme reluctance to do so) will surely betray him as being a weak candidate with untenable positions on each one of the serious issues facing America.

...an empty suit who flip-flops on every issue.

...changing his position on each of them from one day to the next.

Whigs and socialists
Sam, (Previous comment). If the republicaans are the whig party then it's fair to say that the democrats are the new socialist party, for now even the late John F. Kennedy (D) was more of a conservative than George Bush (R) is today.... It's my firm belief that the first comment hit it right on the head when he said America is being destroyed by design. Both parties are in bed together and it's the democrats turn to run things, per gentleman's agreement (made in some back room in Washington DC) so the republicans are running (or have nominated) one of their weakest candidates trying to insure a loss to the democrats, so the democrats have another turn at getting richer off of us. We all know there were much stronger, better candidates to run against ovomit... Why was mccain selected??? The trouble is, ovomit is self destrcting so we may have a republican continuing the dirty work after all, not that it really matters! We're just given the choice that "they" want to make available to us, as if it were a choice!! (just like in '04) so just remember you are going to elect who's gonna sell us out in this next election, like bush is so brilliantly doing right now, but don't go hating Bush for that, they have been selling us out since before the Clinton era, it just became obvious when slick willie was in office. So you see it doesn't matter which party, they're both guilty...
My (our) "Sweet land of Liberty" is being dismantled and sold out like an old automobile carcass, after awhile, there will be nothing left to salvage and what happens after that?? It goes into the crusher for scrap.... Tell me folks... What can we do??

What Choice?
McCain could be running away with this campaign if he was a conservative but alas he is not.He is a democrat in Rino clothing still favoring amnesty, praising Nancy Pelosi, saying no tax increases while having taxes on the table, supporting UN global warming,no drilling in ANWAR,ENOUGH!He is just like BUSH1,DOLE,FORD,NIXON,and more liberal than BUSH2.OsamaObama is a socialist at best, but actually a communist. No more pretending give it to the communists.

Hersh?? (Sam)
Do a some research on Hersh. He is a self-proclaimed liar and none of his fantasies have ever been corroborated. Rush Limbaugh is on the EIB Network. It's not part of the MSM and has a interesting story behind it.

Politics will always be partisan unless one side decides they want to agree with the other and since their basic tenets are far removed from each other, that's not going to happen. Obama or nobody else can lead people to non-partisanship. Somebody is going to lose everytime a compromise is made.

One party wants to "progress" us into Socialism and the other adheres to the Constitutional principles. Where do you want to compromise??

Say What?
Ms. Zito wrote;

"McCain is better than the campaign he has run so far. Most people admit that McCain is an inspirational figure – even Obama has admitted that – so why isn’t McCain telling voters where he wants to lead them?"

Maybe because he is NOT better than the "Campaign he has run so far?

Also maybe most people DON'T think McCain is an inspirational figure.

And finally maybe McCain is not telling voters where he wants to lead them because he knows they have sense enough to REFUSE TO GO .THERE

Republicans are going to be wiped out
November is going to be a massacre. Screw the Republicans they are the WHIGS.

You have leaders in both parties that hate freedom and spread lies...

Sam, instead of basing your displeasure
with Cheney and the rest of this administration on a wild conspiracy theory based on the unsubstantiated word of one man from a website that thinks 9-11 was staged...

Why not look at what they've done on the record. I'm thinking of clear abuses of the constitution such as Bush signing McCain-Feingold when he knew it was unconstitutional.

Also, a question for you: Just for grins, let's say that Rush Libaugh is, as you say, playing the right-vs-left game due to working for a fascist media, and he is lying to the American public every day.

What's criminal about that?

America is being destroyed by design
The Republican and Democrat parties and their media pundits are criminals. Rush Limbaugh, Andrea Mitchell, etc. are run by the same criminal facist media that play the "right" vs. "left" paradigm.

Example:
There was an article that came out in the alternative media.

The article pointed out that D. Cheney in a meeting with his members and considered the idea of killing Americans in order to start the IRAN war. It was rejected however.

The You Tube clip points out that this was proposed by D. Cheney however it was rejected.

The leaders and congressmen you elect are criminals. The media that you listen to are criminal psychopaths.
