Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Two weeks ago, Newsweek released a poll showing Barack Obama 15 points ahead of John McCain. Days later, the Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll showed a similar gap.

Yet over at Gallup, the daily tracking poll showed the two presumptive presidential nominees remain in a statistical tie, although early last week Obama did start to break a nickel ahead of McCain.

The question that arises for the average person watching this race is, why the zero to 15-point difference in polling data? Is one poll more accurate than the other?

“All polls are not created equally,” says Republican pollster Neil Newhouse. “How a poll is conducted and its attention to detail is extraordinarily important.”

Newhouse explains that accurate sampling is critical and the lack of it explains the wild differences in polling data.

“Senior citizens represent around 21 percent of the electorate, yet some polls include far more than that percent in their polling simply because seniors are easier to reach on the phone,” he says.

“Ignoring details like that can skew results from poll to poll,” says the Democrats’ legendary media consultant Dane Strother.

Another reason why early polls are all over the map “and downright suspicious,” Strother says, is because people don’t know what the “screen” is.

Simply put, a screen is who is or is not allowed to participate in the poll.

Without knowing the screen or the way that questions are phrased, Strother says you really can’t tell if a poll captures a true reflection of attitudes, “which explains why these polls are all over the place.”

Newhouse and Strother agree that the only polls that are truly accurate must have “likely voters” asked the question as part of the equation, not just the ambiguous “adults,” which are the easier of the two to sample.

Newspaper polls typically are described as “snapshots in time” that do not account for the ongoing flow of a campaign. Consequently, they can spike in one direction or another, depending on the news being reported during the survey period.

For example, a survey conducted on the Friday and Saturday of the “Unity” event in New Hampshire would be tainted by Sen. Hillary Clinton’s endorsement of Obama.

In contrast, the Gallup poll is a “tracking survey” that is taken nightly, reflecting the mood over a three- or four-night period -- and resulting in a more even view of the electorate and its impressions of the race.

Then there are “push” polls, which are not really polls at all. Instead, they’re a mechanism designed not to determine voters’ opinions but to disseminate negative information about a candidate in order to move voters away from that candidate.

One of the flaws in polls is how they are weighted and what makes up the sample; if a pollster oversamples a party or demographic, the result is misleading numbers. There also is the sticky situation of how a pollster determines turnout, a not-so-scientific exercise that requires being able to measure intensity among voters -- which is about as easy as capturing lightning in a bottle.

Newhouse and Strother agree that polls right now have zero value, expect perhaps for the guy on top who can send out press releases touting his lead.

This year, because Americans will have the option to vote for the first black president, race will be yet another factor in deciphering voter trends.

No one has done more research on blacks in political campaigns than Strother, who has consulted against former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke in Louisiana; he understands the complexities of polling during a campaign with race as part of the equation.

“No one wants to be seen as a bigot, especially someone who is not a bigot, but neither do those that are,” he says. “Sometimes there is a fear as a pollster that you are being told what people think you want to hear.”

He says one way to avoid that reaction is to ask, “I recognize that you would vote for someone no matter what their race is, but would one of your neighbors vote for someone who is black?”

That offers a good gauge of how someone will vote, he says, because “their answer is very telling about their otherwise closely held views.”

Yet for all the science that will go into trying to analyze what will happen, the answer may lie in one simple question: How badly do we really want change?

While that question seems to favor Obama, especially given today’s economy and President Bush’s unfavorability, “change” remains one of those tricky words that mean a whole lot of different things, positive and negative, to different people.

It’s all in the delivery -- just ask any pollster who has used it in a survey.

Did Sen. Obama register for draft?
Salena:

Has anyone checked to see if Senator Barack Obama registered with Selective Service (aka the draft) as required for all male Americans born after December 31, 1959 (Obama was born in 1961)? If not, why not? It is a felony not to register...

Interesting article...
I've been following the Gallup poll rather than the others as the rest are all over the board. I think it's valid that there is a higher "dishonest" ratio this time around due to Obama being black. It certainly held true on the polls against Clinton...they were notoriously high for Obama in relation to the actual vote. Seems those who won't vote for Obama in the booth were disinclined to voice that in a poll, lest they be thought of as bigots, even if race wasn't the reason they didn't vote for him. I think the polls this season will be skewed. I agree with Art that we will all need to get the best information available and make our own decisions.

Oh well...
Are people really that stupid that they would be inclined to vote for a candidate just because he is way ahead in the polls. But then again I bet three out of five people on the street at this point in time do not know who the candidates are and if they are able to name one they wouldn't know what party he belongs to. Oh well....
Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.
H. L. Mencken

Here we go again!
In my 40+ years as a voter I have never been "polled" ever. Don't get me wrong, I don't WANT to be polled, ever. But it does make wonder where they go to get their data. As far as I can tell this polling thing is only for the media so they have something to say every night. Polling has little to say about reality. If this were the first presidential campaign in which polling came into play, it might be one thing, but this is a repeat of '04, '00, '96, etc and what was called polling. It is history repeating itself!

A great fraud
Certainly they want all to think that obama is unstoppable, thusly all the momentum is in obamas favor, so since obama is so popular, maybe we should all vote for obama since a vote for McCain would almost be a waste of time anyway. The fact that obama is the media darling is suspect enough! Isn't it?? So now, let's all stick our heads in the sand and vote for obama because he makes us all feel good and the media says that he's so wonderful and will win anyway..... It's so pathetic because it actually seems to be working. I'm beginning to wonder if we are as stupid as they think we are! I am constantly speaking out on this very subject and I feel that it falls on deaf ears, it's starting to get scary!! Oh well maybe the masses will get the government they deserve!!

Don't belive ANY poll
The only one that counts is the one held on Nov 2 and sometimes even that one is not accurate.

Polls
I have always felt that in general "Conservatives" do not respond to polls - most Repulicans are working too hard to take time to discuss their political views with a stranger. (how about that)!

Polls
The only poll that counts is the one at the voting booth.

It would be most instructive...
...for persons unfamiliar with these matters to review the Literary Digest poll of 1936. That poll, conducted by telephone by a high-toned literary magazine, predicted a masive landslide for Alf Landon. As matters eventuated, the election produced a massive landslide for Franklin D. Roosevelt.

What the Literary Digest pollsters neglected to consider was:
1. Are its subscribers -- the population polled -- demographically representative of the electorate?
2. Are its subscribers easier to reach by phone than the typical voter?
3. Are its subscribers -- remember, this was in the middle of the Great Depression -- likely to have the same political and economic priorities as the typical voter?

The answer was NO in all three cases, but the pollsters didn't even pause to consider the matter. Verbum sat sapienti.

The media
uses polls to formulate public opinion, not reflect it.They pound week after week on an issue till it makes critical mass and then poll about it,then act surprised when it reflacts their brow beating. This happened right before the '06 election on the Mark Foley scandal. This thing was on cycle for a solid moth and it depressed GOP trunout. If they can convice people that Obama is unbeatable through polls then it would surpress GOP turnout again. Liberals will always show up at the polls because they want money from government in one way or another. Republicans vote on values etc,a tougher sell that the Santa Dems.Being a liberal is the most gutless form of politician. They never hold anyone personably responsible for their problems, instead paper it over with free benefits.

Pools
Geez - without polls the Clinton's would never be able to make a decision.

The media takes polls and then reports
them as news. Whadda joke.

The Newsweek poll only contacted 22% Rep./cons. No wonder the poll produced a pro-Obama claim.

The media has been suspect in both recent pres. elections. The night of voting in 2000, Dan Rather, Tom Brokaw, and Peter Jennings all reported at 8 pm that the FL polls were closed. It took FOX to report that the panhandle vote was on-going for another hour (different time zone). The panhandle is supposedly much more conservative than the peninsular counties. How many people did CBS, NCB, and ABC deter from voting after 8 pm in FL?

In 2004, Dan Rather tried to promote a series of articles on Bush' lack of National Guard record. (It's amazing how the *press* says it's *for the troops* but constantly disparages the National Guard--i.e., Bush, Quayle, yadda). Although, those papers Rather claimed as sources were quickly revealed to have been created on a modern word processor, Rather refused to recognize their inauthenticiy and lost his anchor position in the end for the controversy.

In Nov., 2004, for the entire morning CNN reported exit polls showed Kerry ahead almost 2-1. When Bush won, CNN's Paula Zahn looked near to tears.

The MSM simply cannot be trusted in political matters as it is 92% registered Dem.

Don't trust the polls!
The left leaning media is using the polls to make McCain look competitive. They cannot show him ahead, no one would be stupid enough to believe that. They just show him as competitive to keep the republicans from dumping their hand-picked dupe at the convention, and replacing him with someone who could actually beat Obama in November.

Weighing the Polls
Anyone who pays attention to polls when making up their minds to vote, are not too smart. ESPECIALLY polls put out by the news media.

Anyone with an ounce of brain knows the media is for Hussein, and they skew all their polls.

Obama moving center poll
I wondfer who they polled, what questions they asked and where. Urban areas only?

Obama's taxation plans, down size the military, no border security, no using domestic oil in a two part energy policy, now he is hinting at another 16 months in Iraq before he starts getting out troops, not addressing the trade agreements with Nafta and the WTO, which are totally unfair with regard to the working people of this country, these subjects should worry every American. My very first Presidental election was for JFK. There, dated myself. He was a Excellent Democrat, who Championed the working people. Who do we have now that champions the working people? No one.

Remember these words, "Those people who live in small towns in apathy, but have religion and guns". Obama's words. In Frisco. That did it for me. What a slap in the face at America's working folks that just want jobs, not hand outs. What is he going to do about the cost of heating oil? Millions are now facing eat or heat. Those on fixed incomes, lower paid and some middle class Americans. Nothing thats what. Our economy is sliding down slowly. Nothing the feds can do will stop it till we start drilling and producing domestic resources which have been blocked 35 plus years. yet Democrats, instructed by the policies of the DNC voted in the last two votes, not to develop our own oil. 1 nillion barrels a day from Anwar, will not even help? Ya sure. At 149 dollars a barrel, 1 million barrels a day comes out to 50.4 billion off our trade defict.

Better wake up America. McCain. I don't really like him either, but he is the lesser of the two evils.

Polls
Polls are what the pollsters want to make them.
I firmly believe that the source of the pollsters has a huge bearing on what the results will be.
When I see the poll as being conducted say by NY Times, Newsweek, ABC, CBS, NBC, I am automatically turned off as to its validity. Those ultra liberal, anti-American, pro-Democrat sources will produce a poll that is highly favorable to the Democrat candidate, philosphy or goal. I sometimes suspect that a poll from those sources that originates in Washington was most likely conducted right there in that bastion of overwhelmingly Democrat residents of the black community. I also feel that the results would be so unrealistic that the pollsters would be inclined to tweak the numbers they come up with so as to make it look a bit more "balanced."
Similarly, polls taken by pro GOP sources in areas of high Republican voter density will be skewed in favor of that party's candidate, philosophy or goal.
Gallup and Zogby "SEEM" to be fair in their reporting, but as the Shadow says, "Who knows what evil lurks in the minds of men" (and women.)
The moral is: Don't get your knickers in a bunch over ANY poll you see. Take it with 2 aspirins and call your guru in the morning; OR, wait until the event is over and get the REAL poll: the voters choices.

Call Screening
I wonder how many pollsters take into account how many of us are out there actively dodging any unknown unsolicited calls to our homes--caller ID weeds out a lot of pollsters, and poor homes are less likely to have it. Does that cause some Democratic leaning to some of the data?

Fred @ reply # 2 (Obama draft reg.)
Good question! Is the draft register public information?

On the other hand, Socialist-Democrats can commit felonies all day long and their kool-aid drinkers won't bat an eye.

Denny
It is always a pleasant surprise to find an article on Townhall that is informative rather than slanted. Good for Zito for writing one.

On the comments it should be noted that Obama's new plan is to have combat troops out of Iraq in 16 months, not to start pulling them out in 16 months.

That happens to be his old plan as well. He first gave it more than a year ago. It is true that REpublicans hvae been calling this a flip=flop. But that is because Republicans see their best chance in the election is to lie, or possibly they are involved in a curious form of self-deception in which they believe what they wish is true rather than what is true.

Obama Stands For Socialism
If all americans knew what Obama issues whould do to this country then i'm sure these polls would weigh rather heavy for McCain to win the presidency. Most major newspapers and major news networks will not question or talk about any thing that will put the Obama presidency in doubt or jeopardy and unfortunaley too many americans are to busy to look at the other side of Barack Hussein Obama FOR IF THEY DID -I'm sure these polls would be different.

Obama is the sum of our...
..incompetence. He is a fraud, a liar and a racist..but the most terrible thing about this charlatan is that so many Americans would vote for him.

Too many journalists
are hoping that they can claim they helped elect the "first black president".

It's the typical self-centered, "I changed the world" mentality endemic in the field of journalism today.

Dan Rather is a good example. With completely phony documents, Rather charged ahead anyway and attempted to subvert the national election.

There are a LOT of Rathers out there . . .

Weighing the polls>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
McCain has been shackled with two, yes two heavey burdens to carry through out the election and BO has only one slight acceptable one, he is a young black candidate of Muslim background.
While John has suffered from the following two disatrious SUPPORTERS of his run. One the open and most often verbal onslaught of derogatory reteric from his own party affillates. And second the burdon of now openly carrying the very platform of his predissor, who buy no means is a plus in any port of call.
We the Party have hinderd Johns hope of getting elected POTUS, not the Dems.
Because so many of you outspoken, very zealot, and demanding Republicans attacked and refussed to support him until he openly supported your idealogies, that The Democrats are pounding the issue of a GWB third turn, instead of running on a ballot of principals and agendas.
Look What You Have Done.
In WWII the message was `Loose Lips Sunk Ships'.
The message here should have been, `When the Horse that got you their dies, let him lay and ride another!'

Butcher:
McCain brought this on himself. You cannot reasonably blame voters for adhering to principle and refusing to support a man who has no principles

Polls
Polls are designed to steer the uneducated and uninformed towards one candidate - obviously, the "radical and socialist" Left-Wing media will do what is necessary to swing the vote left. Thanks to the Internet, Talk Radio, etc., it is certainly not as easy as it was in years past - thank God!

r
d

Yea, but
in 2006 the poles suggested the Republicans would lose big. The conservative TV and radio hosts waved it off as propaganda. Then what happened? The poles were right.

It's so hard to get excited about McCain. Particularly because he is an anti-conservative who has alienated much of the base. At the same time, the Democrats are worshipping the second coming of Christ. I think the poles are going to be right again this time.

McCain is not perfect
BUT he has never voted for a tax increase, never had an earmark, is ready to be commander in chief, won't promote defeat and humiliation in the Middle East, and has now started urging oil drilling and nuclear. He's pro-life and won't appoint another Ginsberg or Souter to the Sup. Ct.

If he is soft on immigration, Anwr, other social issues, Reps. could use some Latino/Hispanic votes and middle of the roaders.

Cons. on our own cannot win national elections. We need Dem. crossovers (Reagan's Dems.) and independents (now up to 40% of the electorate).

Obama has blacks (but only 12% of pop.), maybe youth (if they remember to vote but only 7% of electorate), and academics/press.

No matter what the polls say, I doubt Obama is going to get the working class vote, the older women who supported Hillary, or the suburbs. If there is any accuracy in polls, you can go back and look at the poll numbers supporting Obama and then the actual primary vote. He only took one big state: IL. He won on heavy caucus emphasis, Dem. primary proportionality, the superdelegates, and many pro. Dems. (Kennedy) not wanting another Clinton pres. And the press turning on Hillary.

If conservatives can look at principles as supporting what's better for the country and not just what's strictly important to values conservatives, McCain can win.

But he and the RNC need money. If you want Obama, then just sit back and let the Dems. take the White House and Congress. Then there won't be enough space on TH to print your howls.

Where is the story?

Liberal rags post skewed numbers to promote leftist agenda.

This is about as revealing as stating, “liberals lie”.

Obama, the Post Turtle
Appropriate story going around the email circuit:

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.

Eventually the topic got around to Barack Obama and his bid to be our President.

The old rancher said,'Well, ya know, Obama is a 'post turtle'.'

Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a 'post turtle' was.

The old rancher said, 'When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle'.'

The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain.

'You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he is up there, and you just want to help the dumb cluck get down.'

Salena
Will you in the future, tell "US" how unfair the polls were to Mr.McCain?Only one poll matters and that is to happen in November. It is most difficult to understand, all the political pundits and their need to contribute to the process. Also, the people of Australia want their word(Pundit),back.Originally the word was designed to signify experts, the 8,000 mile trip has changed the word 8,000 times.UNFORTUNATELY....

OBAMA
ANYONE WHO VOTES FOR OBAMA WILL REALIZE IN ONE YEAR OR LESS WHAT A HORRIFIC CHOICE THEY HAVE MADE. THE DAMAGE TO THE UNITED STATES BY AN OBAMA PRESIDENCY ARE SO PROFOUND AND THE IGNORANCE OF THE ELECTORATE SO PERVASIVE THAT WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THE INCREDIBLE IMPORTANCE OF THE ISSUES AT STAKE.

that analogy's unbeatable

Dear Voice of Reason:

You get the gold for that one. I've only seen one other gold medal in Toon Hall over the last month. Retired Geek took it for "Obama Postage Stamp"--

He says US Postal Service issued the Barrack Obama memorial postage stamp: His complete jobs resume is printed on it.

VOTING
ANYYONE WHO VOTED FOR BUSH HAS REALIZED IN ONE YEAR WHAT A HORRIFIC CHOICE THEY MADE. THE DAMAGE TO THE UNITED STATES BY BUHS ARE SO PROFOUND AND THE IGNORANCE OF THE ELECTORATE SO PERVASIVE THAT WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS THE INCREDIBLE IMPORTANCE OF THE ISSUES AT STAKE.

Butcher
Spot on. You nailed it. We have blown a hole in the bottom of our own ship and now complain that it is sinking.

I hope your message resonates and makes SOME people THINK.

VoiceOfReason
You or someone else changed the post turtle story. The last line was/is

"and you just wonder what kind of a dumb idiot put him up there to begin with.'

change
I think we need change. We need to reverse course on a lot of the liberal programs the last three presidents have put in place.

I also think our real enemy is Iran, not the Iraqi insurgents, and we need to change our foreign policy to reflect that.

Of course, neither candidate is offering these changes. But we do need them.

My poll
The result of my poll is that either ultra-liberal Saint Obambi or moderately liberal McCain Feingold will win, and that is bad news. As the proverb states, when a small man casts a long shadow, it is close to sunset.

Insighting Truth
Subject: Don't trust the polls!
The left leaning media is using the polls to make McCain look competitive. They cannot show him ahead, no one would be stupid enough to believe that. They just show him as competitive to keep the republicans from dumping their hand-picked dupe at the convention, and replacing him with someone who could actually beat Obama in November.

AMEN to that!!! There were other candidates that were way better choices than McCain!! My question is WHY are the republicans throwing the race?? OR is this crap much deeper than any of us "average citizens" know.... Face it, both parties bicker and fight on the surface, but high five and pat each other on the back behind the scenes, they're in bed together.

For Reni (Part 1)
Re: McCain

"BUT he has never voted for a tax increase..."

This is tantamount to a lie. He voted against all of the Bush tax cuts, which is the same thing. Not only did he vote against them, but he very publicly denigrated them with language that mimicked brainless DNC talking points.

"...never had an earmark..."

He never refused to vote for a bill because it was loaded with pork either.

"...is ready to be commander in chief..."

Says who? Every Senator thinks he should be Prez. Just because McCain has an ego doesn't mean he's "ready".

"...won't promote defeat and humiliation in the Middle East..."

But he has supported trials in civilian courts for terrorists (and still does). Thanks to SCOTUS we now have civil law suits in civilian courts from terrorists held at Abu Ghraib. How many other unintended consequences are there of the policy Mccain supported?

"...and has now started urging oil drilling and nuclear."

He still opposes drilling ANWR and he still supports the idiotic "cap and trade" policy which is a total sellout to liberal global warming nuts. He still fails to acknowledge that his steadfast and repeated opposition to drilling ANWR over the last 13 years (at least) was WRONG and has contributed to the $4 gasoline we are 'enjoying' today.

For Reni (Part 2)
"He's pro-life and won't appoint another Ginsberg or Souter to the Sup. Ct."

How do you know? Souter was not known to be a liberal weenie when President George H.W. Bush appointed him. McCain doesn't have the stones to push a solid conservative through a Democrat majority on the Judicial Committee or through a Democrat Senate majority.

"If he is soft on immigration..."

McCain is not "soft" on immigration. He is a traitor, to both is party and his country. "Soft" is when a Senator doesn't oppose illegal immigration strongly enough. When you write an amnesty bill and become angry with the people you took an oath to serve because they oppose it you're a traitor.

"Reps. could use some Latino/Hispanic votes and middle of the roaders."

Why? The Democrats don't seem to think they need these fence-sitters. They nominated the most liberal crackpot in the Senate. If you really think we can't win with a solid conservative running on the principles of Reagan and other solid conservatives then you have joined the moderate weenies in the party who keep trying to tell us that conservatism is a thing of the past.

McCain is a traitor to conservatives and conservatism. He cares only about becoming President and will say or do anything to make it happen. Once he wins (if he wins) he will say or do anything to (1) be popular with the media and (2) win a second term.

No candidate in my lifetime has been less deserving of his party's nomination than John McCain. He will not get my vote.

Polls Apart
Dr. John Robinson, formerly a sociologist and survey methodologist at the University of Maryland, wrote a book called "Polls Apart" which compared polls taken over the years that were attempting to measure public opinion on the same topic and found 10 point or larger differences between results due simply to seemingly minor differences in wording of the questions. These differences combined with poor samples can produce questionable information. Also, unfortunately, some polls are taken in such a way these days that they are attempting to influence opinion as much as they are attempting to measure it.

Obama plan to reduce gas prices
The Law of Supply and Demand says that that the price of a good reaches equilibrium when the demand for the good matches the supply.

If there is more demand than supply, the price goes up. If supply exceeds demand, the price goes down.

Obama will increase taxes on oil and not allow any new sources by drilling or Nuclear Power.

Obama believes that increasing taxes on the oil companies is the only way to guarantee an adequate supply of oil.

This is 'Change you can Believe In' to bring down the price of gas.

Obama and Gradual Gas Prices
“I think that I would have preferred a gradual adjustment. The fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing.”
Barack Obama

The utopian Democrats think that if gas prices get high enough, everyone will move back to the cities where they are in control, the unions run all the public transit and utilities, and they get to tell us how we get to work and where we live. It’s a dream come true! Empty out the red states and the suburbs that vote Republican!

Poll your Pocketbook
Instead of worrying about what others think from some poll - poll your pocketbook.

All experts I can find think that gas prices will top off at $7.00 a gallon - that is based on the 'faith' that Iran or Israel will not start a war in the Middle East.

That is a 75% increase in the current prices.

Groceries will go up. Clothes will go up.
Home heating and cooling will go up.
School supplies will go up.
Garbage collection will go up.
Obama promises increased taxes on SS and personal Income taxes.
The number of Government employees already exceeds Wal-Mart at 1,800,000 and Obama promises a huge increase in government.

School taxes will rise because of heating and cooling schools and the gas to bus them.

State and Local taxes will increase to meet the demands of the new Obama 'solutions'.

Would you rather listen to polls or look in your wallet?

Obama and a Democrat congress will ensure a 'Change' you might not want to believe in unless you are very wealthy.

wiseone
Wiseone, your comments may be accurate. I ask only two questions: Is it possible that McCain might sign a national energy development bill? Is it possible that Nobama will not cause higher taxes, unemployment, gas prices, foreign oil dependence, costs to maintain your standard of living?

Now, go vote for which of the above options you think will make America a better place.

You posts are spot on. Go to PBS web site and check out their report on 5-17-2001 regarding Bush's energy plan. Then look at where we are today. BUSH WAS RIGHT ON TARGET. To bad 9-11-2001 took his focus off the energy crisis.

Can you imagine the liberal media drone, he took us to war for oil. Even if he had the time away from defense of the homeland, liberals in the Senate would have continued to block any part of the plan.

The liberals will lose election after election as long as gas stays over $ 4.00 per gallon. This send the economy into the tank.

Who can beat Obama?
Saw Chris Wallace's show, hosted by Brit Hume, a short while ago. The panel discussed the polls and possible VP choices for GOP and Dems, also.

I'm just sorry Retired Geek wasn't on there to give his polling thoughts. He makes more sense than anyone. Mr. Geek, you need to cut, paste, and post those thoughts on a daily basis!

Jeff, I didn't see anyone running an overwhelming campaign in the primaries. I saw a couple, including Duncan Hunter, who had too little name recognition, money, and coverage to get consideration. I remember McCain being flat broke about a year ago and everyone getting a big laugh out of that. Do you think the GOP was behind him all the time? I must have missed that.

Better question
Short of suggesting the absurd, impractical, unlikely or ridiculous, how can Obama be beaten?

McCain Hits Obama In Spanish Ad: He “Just Discovered” Hispanic Vote

Will this work?

Atlantic-John McCain’s college roommate, Frank Gamboa, says in a Spanish-language radio that “the other candidate has just discovered the importance of the Hispanic vote…”

Obama is unbeatable
The simple truth is that McCain is an extremely weak candidate and Obama is probably the greatest liar to ever seek high office in the US. That is quite an honor, but true. He makes Bill Clinton look like a saint who has taken a lifelong vow of honesty. He will say any and everything that will get him votes. The stupid people outnumber the intelligent by a wide margin in any country and Obama appeals to the stupid like honey appeals to bears. They cannot lap him up fast enough. Resign yourself to having a lying socialist for president and start planning how to deal with that.

Speaking of polls...

The last poll I saw on the Hispanic vote was 58%-Obama, 28%-McCain.

I think McCain is wasting his time.

Re "Obama is the sum of our incompetence..." Bravo! You said it all -- clearly, correctly, and concisely.

I agree but I think McCain is pro-open borders!

For Republicans, the Senate outlook is b

How bad is it?

LATIMES-Mississippi, one of the nation’s most conservative states, has not elected a Democratic senator in a quarter-century. It has voted for Republican presidential candidates in the last seven elections.

But this year, there is a real chance that the state will send a Democrat to the Senate.

That prospect is a window onto a remarkable political trend that has been eclipsed by the fireworks surrounding the 2008 presidential contest: Democrats are running strong Senate campaigns in states such as Mississippi, Alaska and North Carolina that Republicans have long taken for granted.

McCain is a middle of the road, go along get along politician.... To me, from a conservative point of view, there were much better choices than McCain. I do respect the man for the sacrifices he has made in serving his country, but lets face it, he's pretty old, many voters aren't sure he has another four years in him

THE TRUTH ABOUT POLLS.......
.....is that they do not reflect public opinion. Instead, polls try to SHAPE public opinion. I'm with Art and others. DO NOT TRUST POLLS. The goal of polls is persuasion, not information. Case closed.
