Hillary and Obama: Peaches & Herb?

Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Perhaps if you had been in an isolation chamber since the day before Sen. Hillary Clinton's first loss in Iowa, you would think that the poll for tomorrow's contest in West Virginia made sense. Until that moment she was inevitable.

Now, not so much.

Still the numbers are the numbers and here is what they say about Tuesday's West Virginia primary and next week's contest in Kentucky:

Suffolk is giving her a 36-point lead over Barack Obama in West Virginia (poll was in the field May 10-11):

• Clinton 60

• Obama 24

• Undecided 8

She appears to have a similarly commanding lead in neighboring Kentucky. A Research 2000 poll (in the field May 7-9) has her up by 27 points.

• Clinton 58

• Obama 31

• Undecided 11

Both polls were taken after the press and pundits wrote, sang and contemplated her obituary.

So much for news media's influence on the voters in those two states.

While the death by a thousand pin pricks keeps coming via superdelegates, who are falling over themselves to back Obama, voters in West Virginia and Kentucky are not budging from their support for Clinton.

So what do these numbers mean for the almost-but-not-quite-there Democrat nominee Sen. Barack Obama for the general election in November?

While no one wants to say it -- because apparently in this country we cannot have a reasonable discussion about race without being called a racist -- race matters.

Just look at the exit polls, in which one in five voters say so.

So is that why Obama is not campaigning in West Virginia? (No, one visit with Sen. Jay Rockefeller does not count as a barnstorming of this key state). Why the concession to Clinton without trying? Is it the downscale white voter 'thing'?

As one high ranking Democratic strategist said privately Obama is only there for one campaign event because he knows she's way ahead and is going to win, and doesn't want to legitimize her victory by making it look like it was truly contested.

University of Virginia political science professor Larry Sabato, who is 95 percent sure that Obama is the Democratic nominee, says the Illinois senator "already knows he is not going to carry West Virginia in November -- or Kentucky."

"(He) has a very different electoral path to the White House--although," Sabato cautions, "in the end, it all may come down to the usual handful of states."

To put this in perspective Obama is probably doing what is politically right from his point of view: pursue the general election strategy and let her exit on her own terms, in her own way, on her own time. In the end, maybe as early as Tuesday night, probably more likely within seven days thereafter he believes she'll do the right thing so that he can have "the reconciliation" be the "huge" story.

You know, pictures of the two happy couples together leading every newspaper front page, all electronic media, etc. strains of Peaches and Herb "Reunited, and it feels so good" playing in the background.

Barack Obama begins and ends his campaign today in Charleston with a speech in front of 1,000 invited guests. He then heads to Missouri Tuesday for a general election campaign stop.

West Virginia polls close at 7:30 p.m. Look for the race to be called for Clinton by 7:30.01.

Peaches and Herb?
More like Ike and Tina Turner, without Tina's talent and sexiness (mutual dislike only). Jesus, is there any hope that Ron Paul could somehow emerge from this sideshow as a viable candidate? while O'Bummer casts himself as connecting to all the disenfranchised, his very limited political career has shown very little but the ability to say eloquently what the particular audience wants to hear. The Clinton lady has shown the same ability (without the eloquence.) To quote Dave Van Ronk: "You take Sally, I'll take Sue; Ain't no difference twixt the two." And THAT'S the thinking up here in Appalachia.

Cool duo?
Peaches & Herb? I've dug them for years. But I don't see them as running mates -- or getting my vote. I'm writing in Tom Tancredo.

Will Obama Win in November?
I hope Hillary wins really BIG in WV & Kentucky. Not that I am a Hillary fan, but I'd like to see the Democrats possibly realize BO isn't everyone's 'promised child', as they seem to think. I read a review yesterday that stated that people will verbalize support of a black man in the polls(so as not to seem racist) but will vote differently in the privacy of the polling booth. The only group that continues to VOTE 90% for BO is blacks. I personally would not have a problem voting for a black man for POTUS, but NOT THIS MAN. If people who are opposed to abortion, gun control, illegal immigration and self-destruction of the United States would get off their fannies and vote AGAINST those issues, we would see an entirely NEW candidate emerge - out of necessity - for BOTH parties. I can only hope!

OK, racism does exist
However, with 92% of BLACK voters going for Obama, perhaps the real culprit is black racism?

60% of white voters are going for Clinton, on average. Given that the two candidates are very similar on issues, a 50/50 split might be considered "race neutral". Therefore, it seems whites are less racist than blacks.

No offense...
...but couldn't referring to Obama (as would be indicated in the title of the article) as "Herb" be a bit inflammatory considering his past marijuana use?

I realize it probably wasn't intended, but it was something that ended up being unintentionally quite funny to read.

Why Comrade Obama will win.
"While no one wants to say it -- because apparently in this country we cannot have a reasonable discussion about race without being called a racist -- race matters"

The charge of white racism remains, as it has been for the past 40 years, a sword hanging over our society, paralyzing rational discourse and obstructing sensible action in areas ranging from crime prevention to education to anti-terrorism measures to immigration control.

And that's why Obama will will the presidency.
Such is the enduring power of white guilt.

What a fiasco.
Boy, if we Americans aren't in a helluva mess for the presidential election this year. We have a couple of Marxist clowns on the democrat ticket, and on the other side, a poor old guy who doesn't know what he is, at least part of the time. He's been on both sides of the isle too many times for lots of us to trust him completely. We do know that he is a patriot, however, so we'll just have to pull that lever for him, even though with reservations. Let's pray that he'll select a VP choice who has some sense and perhaps give us consdervatives some hope
