Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

When it comes to racial issues, the 2008 Democrat primary has been lowered to the most politically correct campaign in history. So low that it has smudged the lens in the way we look at both of the Democrats’ candidates.

Political correctness or “PC” -- a clothesline tool typically used as a wedge issue against Republicans -- has backfired. To steal a phrase from the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, PC is “coming home to roost” for Democrats.

Purdue University political science professor Bert Rockman says we need to thicken our skins when it comes to race.

“Why did anybody take umbrage at Bill Clinton's remark about Jesse Jackson in South Carolina when it was patently correct?” he asks. Everyone knows that blacks are voting heavily for Barack Obama, he explains, and only a moron would be surprised.

Because of PC, race is the elephant in the room that no one is supposed to talk about, except to remark on how enlightening it is for America to have a black candidate for president.

Fair enough: That is a huge story. But at some point the lens should focus past Obama’s oratorical skills and his skin color to see who this man is who wants to lead our country.

Obama is black by heritage but also a product of liberal elitism, which appears to drive his thinking: Poor kid from single-parent home gets access to the best schools, the best opportunities, and is groomed for greatness.

Nothing wrong with that. Jack Kennedy’s father groomed eldest son Joe for the presidency and, when tragedy struck, turned his attention to Jack. That’s the American way.

That same “American way” led a young Obama to move to Chicago to become a community organizer and to join the church he chose -- to groom his political career. It is why he enlisted David Axelrod, strategist to the Chicago Democrat machine of Mayor Richard Daley, to handle his campaign; his bid for a U.S. Senate seat under machine-politics tutelage was won without any real challenge.

Political grooming also is why John Kerry picked Obama to give a keynote address at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.

To Obama's credit, he has met and exceeded expectations, has delivered in every sense of the word. However, his thinking hovers on liberal elite. That is why his comment in San Francisco about embittered Middle America was so revealing about who and what he is. Yet because of race, his political veneer was not scratched.

In ideology, is he different from Mike Dukakis, John Kerry, Al Gore or George McGovern? Probably not. He just looks really cool saying the kind of things once said by those four men who lost the presidency for the Democrats.

And why did they lose? In large part, because of a lack of connection with bread-and-butter Democrats.

Love him or hate him, give Bill Clinton his due: He fought for the presidency against all odds, from a small white Southern town; when he won, he delivered without ever embracing liberal elitism.

That is part of the price Hillary Clinton is paying in this primary: The party’s liberal-elite side resents Bill’s performance, especially his move to the right after winning the White House but then losing Congress in 1994.

Clinton did it to survive. But Kerry, Gore or even George W. Bush would never have compromised that way, because their elite upbringing does not allow them to think that way.

Compare this with two modern presidents who are widely remembered and admired: William Jefferson Clinton and Ronald Wilson Reagan.

Neither came from or had access to the elite system, though at times they brushed against it; when push came to shove, they rejected it for their own survival. Both deeply wanted people to like them because of their upbringings -- both came from poor families in small-town America with abusive, alcoholic fathers.

Democrats will be successful in November only if they pick a candidate who mirrors the successful tickets that won the 2006 midterm elections -- candidates who connected with average Americans.

If the candidate who emerges from this primary season echoes the liberal elitism of McGovern, Dukakis, Gore and Kerry, then Democrats should start bracing for a losing year, one they should have easily won.

Two Communists

Obama and Clinton is a single Black and White Paint Horse where no matter who wins the nomination, you still have a TROJAN horse masquerading as a soul who cares about the American people.

Both have close longtime friends who are felony criminals, and both worship Communism as their God.

Too late
if the Democrats can only win if they have a candidate who connects with Middle America, they're already Soldier Out of Luck. And have been since Shrillary and the Obameister became their front-runners.

Like Kerry, Dukakis, and McGovern, either one of these two starts with half the potential voters guaranteed to reject them. Not because of gender or color, but because they represent "more of the same" from the Democrats. More elitism, more arrogance, and more contempt for anyone and everyone in "Flyover Country".

Hill and B.H.O. have never been nearer "Middle America" than the place they both started from; Chicago, under the Dailey machine. They "made their bones" in one of the most corrupt political machines in history, and one noted for treating everyone not "in the club" like dirt under their feet. Why would they be different? Up to now, it's worked for both of them- in the insular, hothouse culture of the party leadership. And it plays so well with the "party faithful", who really do think of the rest of us as peasants, and themselves as an "enlightened nobility destined to rule".

But as the old saying goes, it won't "play in Peoria". Or anywhere else.

Welcome to Democracy, Democrats. I hope the experience doesn't hurt too much.

Just enough to get you to wake up and smell the coffee.

cheers

Modern Elitism
In todays world it seems more and more likely that a person under the age of 40 will have lived his or her entire life in a bubble containing only people his own age, in his own social class, that have been thoroughly vetted by Mommy and Daddy (if any). Even those who travel, ears blocked by wires and fingers tappity tapping to these same people, they never leave thir cocoon. And when they take the family travelling, they belt the lumpen baby wireheads into their seats, tilt down the movie screen, and pop in the same DVD the kiddies would be watching were they seated lumpenly on their beds with all the curtains closed. The kids are decanted into the same restaurants they choose at home and the motel they stay in at the end of the day is exactly like the last one (and they draw the curtains and turn on the teevee and watch what they watch at home).

So the modern elite knows nothing at all about the world except what people who are his own age and just like him know or tell them.

Oh, and they are absolutely terrified of anything or anyone outside their bubble, because Mommy has taught them that the most frightening thing of all is to be Out of Contact -- not to have wires in their ears, not to have their BlackBinkie in their hands, not to have the wireless umbilical cord once they are too old to be leashed to Mommys hand.

P.S. I am not looking forward to four years of my every disagreement with Obama being branded YOUARACIST! If he gets elected I will clearly have to stay up here another 4 years.

incomplete list
The author offers us an incomplete list of elitist democrat candidates. She forgot Hillary. I wonder why?

Democrats' elitism
Whenever I run into an old friend I haven't seen in a while, they are flabbergasted to learn I now vote Republican. "How could you?" they exclaim, disdain dripping from their voice as they prepare to run in the opposite direction.

"It's because of the Dems' elitism," I explain. I first ran into it in academia. You're nothing if you didn't go to an elite school.

Now it can also be seen in the choice of candidates. When was the last time the Dems chose someone who didn't go to Harvard or Yale? 24 years ago! Incredible. Most "little guys" didn't go to Harvard or Yale, yet the Dems still think of themselves as the party of the little guy.

There's plenty of other evidence of elitism, but most liberals remain unconvinced.

redmanrt - Interesting Observation

Until you pointed it out, I didn't even notice that Hillary escapes all substantive attention in this very interesting article. This, at least for me, is telling -- both that Ms. Zito ignored her, and that I didn't even notice.

It raises an interesting question: Does Hillary have a persona that is her own, or is she nothing by a function of the roles that have been selected for her? Her performances in her current campaign, and in fact in her whole life, appear to be mostly in the nature of a cardboard cutout.

Ask yourself, if Ms. Zito were to include a paragraph in this article analyzing Hillary on a standalone basis, what would she say?

Is Hillary a liberal elitist? Yes, but only by reference to Ira magaziner and Harold Ickes. Is she a political hack? Yes, but again only by reference to Sidney Blumanthal and that Livingston creep. Is she experienced? Only in the sense that she was in the vicinity of her husband's administration (both in Arkansas and Washington).

You know, for the first time since the emergence of the blue dress, I actually feel a little bit sorry for Hillary.

Except for this campagin
and for private behavior, I am growing to appreciate Bill Clinton as president, more and more. He was compromise. He was more the practiconer of what could reasonably be accomplished ideology aside, Few extremes one way or another!!!!Never thought I would say this.

Elitism
The elites don't get it whether they be Democrats or Republicans. While some intelligence is necessary we don't want Albert Einstein for President. Did the experience of Adlai Stevenson losing twice to Eisenhower teach nothing? I don't care that the President may not know who the leader of some small obscure country is off the top of his head. He has people to research and tell him these things. I more care if he has the wisdom and street smarts to lead in a capable manner. It is ironic that the Democrats have become so elitist at the same time they claim to be for the "common man".

Racist
Get over all the racists crap and look at the best person to do the job and save our constitution. Someone that hasn't flipped flopped depending on what people want to hear at the time.

Alan Keyes has always stood for "We the People" and not the special interest or elites.
http://www.alankeyes.com/pledge.php?signers=1

This country is paying for the poor morals & choices we have made and it shouldn't continue we need to keep our Constitution for the younger generation.

Obama is an inexperienced, cynical
politico from Chicago who engraciated himself with the Chicago hacks to get to where he is today. He and his wife look down on "regular people" who drink beer or own guns. Michelle is a nightmare who took advantage of affirmative action and now bites the hand that fed her. She and her husband would be a disaster for America - two arrogant elitists who know little of the real world except what their lib professors told them. Heaven help us!

Wilson54 wrote:
"Did the experience of Adlai Stevenson losing twice to Eisenhower teach nothing?"

Yes. It did.

The lesson learned is (or at least should be) that a fortunate majority of voters can see the flaws of pretense.

Stevenson was a featherweight masquerading as an intellectual elitist. This was also the carachter flaw of Gore, Kerry, Dukakis, and Hillary. Bubba squeaked through by camouflaging his intellect behind a personna of boyishness. And B. Hussein tries to hide his pretense behind his blackness.

My prayer for this round is that enough voters will see through the pretensions of HllaryHussein and vote for the most acceptable Democrat in contention. That would be McCain.

Troglodyte
I agree.

We should go back to the old conservative traditions and not allow negroes to read or write - THAT would keep them from thinkin they're
better (or even as good) as the rest of us.

Keep the faith

Hussein Obama
Will get his votes from the following sources:
The pc crowd, hippies, hip hoppers, groupies and the very dumb.
Though each of these groups are different, for the most part they are the same in that they spell disaster for the country.

AND,---they produce children!!!-EGAD!

Many of you
There's absolutely nothing of which to be ashamed when one, such as I, has the qualities to be deemed Elite!
Nontheless, you who have blogged heretofore have demonstrated a level of Cacography that is awe-inspiring!
Take the time to learn how yer werds ar spalled before putting tham on pepper!
Gud Greef!!
Yer Elitist frand.

Wilson54
I don't know where the liberal left gets the idea that our president has to be whip smart. I point out to these people that when I was young, I was the smartest kid in the neighborhood, but I was also a terrible leader. They have nothing to say in response.

loco
You're right about compromising. I had all these leftist friends a couple decades ago, and every one of them excommunicated me because although we agreed on just about everything, we would disagree on one point. I would then get called racist or sexist or fascist because I didn't agree with them on everything.

I'm laughing now while watching these same people who cannot compromise, who can't stand the thought that someone might disagree with them on one thing, engage in this behavior on each other, destroying the Dems' chances in November.

Ha, ha, ha. Vindication.

Uppitty
when one doesn't play with a full deck, one just
throws up the race card. Can't you read, someone posted Alan Keye's name, the man is brilliant and his pigmentation is much darker than Obama and Michelles combined. But he's a conservative,
and a brilliant man. Micheal Steele, called
Oreo and uncle Tom.. It's not about uppity, it's about qualifications. Those two elitist
arrogant, angry bigots have no place in the White House. What a shallow argument, he spouts empty words, of Hope with out elaboration; pouts when he's called on his questionable associations with known communist domestic terrorist, unrepentent to the day of 911; and a racist bigot mentor, father figure pastor for 20 years; in a church who demands loyalty not to Christ, not to this country but to Africa. I have a bit of a problem with a president whose first loyalty is to a continent in chaos, whose
cousin was responsible for a killing rampage in Kenya against the people, mostly christians even burning alive some in a church; rather than appreciating the country he was born a citizen in. He needs to be totally repudiated by loyal Americans. He's a fraud and con artist and marxist.

Yes We're Bitter. But Why?
What happened to the message of "Hope and Change"? I think it is dead and BO killed it. His false promises have filled people with sense of doom and gloom, not hope and change. Where is the hope in telling people that they live in a crappy country?

Just think about this, BO's pastor is building a $1.6 million dollar house, with a $10,000,000 dollar line of credit, in a 98% white development. Kind of funny for a men that rants adjust "rich white people".

Some people will ask why does this matter? It matters because, BO used this anti-American, racist preacher to advance his political career. I feel BO didn't attend TUCC for the preaching. He told us all, that he never heard Rev. Wright's offending words and I believe him. But I also believe that BO worked closely with Rev. Wright to gain the street cred to get elected to the State and Federal levels.

What bothers me is that BO used far left pols to move along in the system. The same people that hate our way of life. If you were wondering where the "bitter" remark came from, it came from BO's orbit of friends. The far left looks down on us because we don't understand that they are here to save us from ourselves. So they get frustrated when we "cling to our guns and religion," instead of turning our futures over to them.

The Role of the Left in the Big Picture
The far left Democratic base should never control the Executive Branch. They should have influence in the Congress and some sympathy from the Courts as part of checks and balances. But the weakest people should not run the country. If they do, they will just replicate nationally their own social failures. Sorry if that's not politically correct.

Upscale left wing elites exploit the poor for their own power. It's no surprise the Weather Underground sponsored Obama's early political career -- manipulating blacks is a basic strategy of radical white leftists. This left wing coalition is important as a check and balance in the 'grand scheme' -- they need to keep right on screaming about civil liberties, corporate mistakes, military mistakes. But Underground Weathermen, New Black Panthers, anti-nationalists, liberal eggheads under foreign influences, and anti-war protestors should never lead the nation --with the exception when the Republicans run George Bush.

I do think we should amend the Constitution to give the President less power to 'pack' the Supreme Court, since the Democrats can't seem to win the Presidency anymore. Maybe we should include the House in Supreme Court confirmations, or require a bigger margin (say 54 votes) in the Senate.

Sorry for the double post...
Who says Mac's don't screw up. The Safari browser does not always put posts up so you can see them. Therefore, you end up sending the same comments twice. Does anyone know why this happens?

Kanaan
What do you think about how the left reacted to BO getting tough questions from Charlie G. and George S. to other night?

Excuse me people
But all three of the candidates are wealthy members of the one of the most elitist organizations on the planet, the US Senate. Do you really think any of these people has the interests of the common voter in mind beyond election day.

I will say this however, to conclude that the member of the trio who grew up in marginal circumstances and after leaving Harvard worked among the poor rather than at a high priced law firm, seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

Please bear in mind the GOP candidate grew up the son of an admiral, and today does his personal travel on the family private jet.

M Coupe
This leftie isn't much concerned, especially when the GOP candidate actually advocates deepening the national debt to make permanent the tax cuts he previously characterized as a sop to the rich.

ROFLMAO
"vote for the most acceptable Democrat in contention. That would be McCain." It's the massive kernel of truth that makes it so funny.

bryce
I know attacking the "rich" is one of the favorite pass times of the left. It aways amuses my how some people buy into this idealogy. Its a total red harring.

The Clintons made $107 million dollars since 2000'. That's $41,000 a day for seven years. The Obama's made $1.6 million dollars last year. McCain made $409,000 last year. All of the candiates are in the top 1-2% of the population.

So, if you think that any of these candidates relate to the average American, you are just kidding yourself. The real issue is what would these candiates do to help the economy?

The fact is that the so called rich are a moving target. Obama says one time that he would rise taxes on those making $250.000 dollars per years, then later he says that people making $97,000 per year would pay more taxes. The truth is that if the Dems end up in power we are all going to pay more taxes.

Gee Whiz
It seems to me that maybe we should refer to
Hal, Boutte & their tripe as insurgents or
rebel insurgents. Or what an anti American should
be called.

the size of the debt
it is amazing the trolls always complain about the cost of the ioraqi war. But they remain silent on the $40 trillion spent to end the war on poverty. At what point will congress admit they have lost this war. But still the oblahma is saying that with more entitlement funding and his wise guidance the poverty programs will finally produce the desired results. Both were wars to save people but with the dims and the entitlement battles they can't even sote any progress with there many surges of increased taxpayer dollars

elitism
the only consistency with the elitist libs and socialists in this country is their refusal to admit or come to terms with their many failures. They always maintain their plans should work but it it either the people failed to respond tyo their leadership or else they didn't latch on to enough dollars from the treasury to fully fund their plans.

It would seem that after 40 years the libs/socialists could cite with pride a vast myriad of successes. Or is it simply that the elites can feel disturbed about the injustices they imagine seeing but lack the ideas how to correct them.

But that doesn't stop the elites from continued raids on the treasury to fund their failed programs

We liberals have to face facts
We liberals have to face facts--John McCain will be our next president. Neither Obama nor Clinton will be able to defeat him. And the pundits were correct: this election was given to the Democrats on the proverbial silver platter. This should have been a no-brainer, but the elitists in my party screwed up. There is almost no voice in the democratic party for any sort of liberal than the kind who took over the party in 1972. They have made sure the Democrats will lose.

Obama may not win in Nov.
if other shoes keep falling.

He has another rev. looming over the horizon. The Rev. Weeks who thinks Mayor Daley is a slave owner and makes Rev. Wright look like a Presbyterian picnic.

Obama gets more and more truculent as the press actually asks him real questions. His disgruntled, pinched replies looked veritably Snob Hillish in the last debate and will look worst as we go on.

The truth is Obama is not seasoned, not ready for prime time, and surely not ready for a presidency.

Americans at heart tend to be more cons. than liberal because of our agrarian and republican roots. They likely will in the end judge who is more believable and who isn't.

McCain is not Bush, and part of his conflict with cons. is that McCain would not support Bush in many areas because McCain and Bush had a very bitter primary season in 2000, and McCain felt Bush' aspersions on his honor were unforgivable.

McCain is the only honorable person in the current campaign. Hillary is smart, she has lived near the center of exec. power for years, but she has never wielded it, and she carries too much negative baggage for people to trust her. Obama is untested and the pres. of the US is too great to give him to see if he really has the ability to command the military and lead the most powerful nation that has ever existed.

M Coupe
The tax cuts for the rich characterization was made by McCain. His own words will be replayed this fall reminding the public that the characterization is not unique to the Dems.

The tax hike on earners above 97k is a payroll tax kike. A CEO earning millions in cash compensation only pays payroll taxes on the first 97k. I seriously doubt the vast majority of Americans who see every penny they earn being ravaged by the tax man will feel much sympathy for those not bearing their fair share of the payroll tax burden.

great article!
this article is absolutely spot on. somebody should email it to Howard Dean.

A bit off subject, but
one of the last comments reminded me of my strong desire to see a new law stating that ALL members of Congress who desire to run for president RESIGN as soon as they file their papers! We would be better off with these three out of Congress regardless of the November election results! Certainly they are not earning their pay - nor have their constituents been served well these past several months.

Elitism, what bull
The biggest bull ever spun on the american people is that the dems are the party of elitism. So if the Republicans hate elism why elect a frat boy yale grad late GWB from one of the most elist and well connected families. The Republican party has always been the Party of elists hiding out under the umbrella of average folks. John McCain comes from a elite naval family and his wife is an hairess. John Kerry's wife Teresa Heinz got her money from her late husband a member of the elite Heinz family. Fancy country clubs are chock full of card carrying Republicans. When FDR created the new deal he was called a trainer to his class, that was the elite upper class who were all for Republican Herbert Hoover.

The Republican party has and always will be the party of the White Upper Class and who is more elite than them. Can you say the Republican and Conservative William F. Buckley was not eliist.

JMO51
Please shed the delusion that Republicans elected Bust to be president.
PEOPLE LIKE YOU ELECTED BUSH BY DEFAULT!
When you ran treasonous garbage like this as his opponent;
http://sweetness-light.com/archive/john-kerry-gained-fame-t hanks-to-phony-soldiers

And you have whimpered and complained about this self inflicted pain for the last 3 years!
And typical of Democrats, if you find something stupid to do, you will remain consistent!

Democrat crossovers voting early & often are what made McCain the Republican candidate!
AGAIN, Democrats have failed to produce a viable candidate.

YOU have elected McCain BY DEFAULT.
Don't make the mistake of complaining about him now unless you want that rubbed in your face.

MyOpine
Yes, their were Reagan democrates who voted for Bush and the Republican attack machine was very successful in characterizing John Kerry as a wind surfing flip flopper. So you are right if you voted for GWB in either election you deserve to blame yourself for any buyer's remorse. By the way, all of those conservatives who now also have buyers remorse should take responsibility for their votes as well.

As to John McCain, all of the other Republican Candidates were flawed, that is why McCain inspite of his baggage is the Republican nominee.

Where was that perfect Repubican Candidate that all of the factions of the party could embrace?

JMO51
So the only thing you could find wrong with Kerry was "Wind surfing flip flopper"
Either you are very naive or you are putting on a dumb act for me.
Did you browse the previous link?
This one is somewhat more enlightening.
http://www.kerrystreason.com/index.html

Just how does a Democrat come by the insane arrogance as to assume HE knows who is the best choice for a Republican candidate?
Who would I choose?
ANYONE OTHER THAN McCain!
All of the MSM picks for Republicans were RINOs.
McCain is the worst of the lot.

As to "Reagan Crossover votes" electing Bush.
I understand how Democrats have a learning impairment but try just a little harder.
Kerry was unacceptable to the people.
Bush was elected by DEFAULT!
Do you understand what DEFAULT means?
There was no viable candidate running against him!
Democrats do not presently have a viable candidate now.
The Republican candidate is WILL BE ELECTED BY DEFAULT!

Democrats have deliberately messed their own shorts!
It is self inflicted pain. Don't whimper about it!

The Right Wingers
sure know how to take a tag and pound it into the
ground, hoping against hope that something will
win them this election.

Nobody seriously believes that Barack Obama is
an elitist. Just like nobody seriously believes
that the Democratic party has espoused
socialism/marxism/communism/fascism. But it sounds so wonderful to accuse them of it because
maybe someone will actually believe it. If you
were trying to appeal to the thinking person,
you would know better.

Kanaan
"Maybe we should... in Supreme Court confirmations ...require a bigger margin (say 54 votes) in the Senate."

???

Where have you been the last few years?
The Dems have ALREADY made 60 the Number needed to get a Justice confirmed...

UNCONSTITUTIONALLY I might add, but there it stands...60!!

Just in case you don't recognize it...or don't know what "elitism" is, I'll spell it out for you.

"If you were trying to appeal to THE THINKING PERSON, you would know better."

Uhhh...would YOU be THAT person?

Fact is...nobody is trying to appeal to you. The prospect of doing that just seems too UN-appealing to a thinking person.

Liberal Elites
Have stopped teaching history in schools across the country.
A brilliant man once said something along the lines of...

If you forget history, you are doomed to repeat it.

Little wonder the Dem-Libs keep running losers for President.

So you see...'MyOpine' is correct when he says -"It is self-in flicted pain"

For God And Country

Face it......
the only one that has a chance at beating McCain is Clinton. And I don't like any of the 3 contenders. At least she makes an attempt to pander to conservatives.

I hear the same old tired stuff re the economy every 4 yrs (for the past 36 yrs) and no one comes up with a truly innovative way to provide more transparency and simplicity to taxes. Until this yr. And he's currently out of the race.

JMO51
"The biggest bull ever spun on the american people is that the dems are the party of elitism. So if the Republicans hate elism why elect a frat boy yale grad late GWB from one of the most elist and well connected families."

Saying that the Dems are elitists doesn't mean that the Republicans can't also be elitists. And vice versa.

What is striking is the way that the Dems have gotten more elitist in recent years, and yet still think they represent the little guy. I don't know whether that's the biggest bull spun on the American people, but I know that I don't like it.

her premise is flawed
"Obama is black by heritage but also a product of liberal elitism, which appears to drive his thinking: Poor kid from single-parent home gets access to the best schools, the best opportunities, and is groomed for greatness."

this sells obama WAY short. give the "poor kid from single-parent home" some props for embodying the American Dream. agree with his politics or not, but the man definitely EARNED what he achieved, rather than merely "get[ting] access" to the best schools and opportunities. saying he got "access" and was "groomed for greatness" makes it sound like was just some privileged kid that was given everything.

and, how is it that bill clinton isn't a product of elitism (by her logic), given the fact that he went to georgetown, oxford, and yale?
so bill clinton didn't have access to the elite system, but barack obama did? that's pretty ludicrous!

let's be for real when talking about all this "elite" stuff with regards to obama. the guy definitely has achieved "elite" status, but got there on his own merits, which is what most americans strive to do. reagan did the same. nothing wrong with that. hillary and dubya are otherworldly when it comes to being elitists!

the little guy
the truth is NOBODY represents the best interests of the "little guy" anymore. republicans think trickle-down economics is the best way (which is stupid) and dems think that gov't handouts are the way (equally stupid). in the meantime, the middle class is getting killed at the pump and the grocery store and the hospital and it's getting worse...

Hey, Michigan Ruth
I have a cousin named Ruth, who lives in Michigan. You wouldn't be her, would you?

Mom in Wisconsin

Elitist Obama
It is no wonder Obama's true colors are showing through-he had the audacity to run with two years of experience under his belt. He is a socialist who hates America. http://www.stopbarackobama.net

Was Clinton an elitist?
Zito writes about Bill Clinton and Reagan:
"Neither came from or had access to the elite system, though at times they brushed against it;"
Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar. That's pretty elitist.

Isn't it fortunate for us
that neither Hillary or Obama are elitist.
We are going to win, gang. Get used to it.

M_from_Idaho: "Clinton was a Rhodes Scholar. That's pretty elitist."

Is your point that elitists actually can win or
that it is bad to have a smart guy in the White
House?

Random observations
Obama has some important differences from McGovern, Dukakis, Gore, and Kerry to help him stem charges of elitism. First, he comes off as optimistic ("hope," "change"), which matches the American sense of life. The others projected angst and negativity. Second, Obama is more alpha male than those losers. (Among liberals, alpha male is a relative term). Obama is emotionally self-contained (remember Gore's sighs and Kerry's whining bitterness?), he is not apologetic, and he is not obsequious in his interactions with the public. This makes him seem like a leader. If Obama did not have those aspects of his personality, he would be toast by now. One Republican strategy will be to try and bait him to get him to lose it. The Dems would then complain about racism/picking on Obama, thus turning off independents.
