Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Black people who say Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama "is not black enough" likely are talking about his race-neutral campaign and not skin color, veteran civil rights leader Ron Daniels said Tuesday.

"That question arises because of the unresolved question as to whether Obama is, in terms of the content of his platform, willing to address black issues," Daniels said during a forum at Community College of Allegheny County.

"He is excellent on issues that black people consider a priority, like heath, education, the war and the economy."

Daniels of New York is a former executive director of the National Rainbow Coalition, now the Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquartered in Chicago. Daniels ran for president as a third-party candidate in 1992.

The public discussion, "Obama and the Relevance of Race in the 21st Century," drew about 50 people to the community college's North Side campus, most of them young and white.

Daniels believes Obama's liberal voting record helps to address issues that concern blacks. By remaining neutral about race, Obama attracts a large number of white voters, he said.

Given the struggles of blacks in America -- from Reconstruction, to gaining voting rights, to affirmative action and other modern issues -- Obama's candidacy would not have been possible without Jesse Jackson's 1988 presidential candidacy paving the way, Daniels said.

This election is historic because of race and gender, he said, with Obama and Hillary Clinton deadlocked in their race for the Democratic nomination.

The danger of not emphasizing race is that some people might think race will not matter if Obama is elected, Daniels said.

"I suggest quite the contrary," he said. "Race still matters, and will have to be resolved no matter who the president of the United States may be."

Daniels said the ultimate challenge is to keep civil rights and human rights as part of any administration's agenda.

"Otherwise, we betray the long struggle of people," he said.

Daniels, a Democrat, said after the forum that he plans to vote for Obama.

"I could have comfortably supported any of the candidates that were running this year," he said. "But it is Obama that has my support -- in part because he is black, but also because he is correct."

OF COURSE RACE MATTERS
That is the bedrock of all things Democrat.
Race. Gender.'Sexual Orientation.' Yeeeesh!!! It is the most important issue 'we as a nation' have to confront.
I hope more of these guys like Ron Daniels crawl out of the woodwork.Another good thing would be to let his wife, Michelle, keep shooting her mouth off. I had a feeling guys like this hustler Davis would show up and the timing is perfect. If enough of them do slither out maybe it will put the brakes on 'empty suits' campaign and thrust Hillary into the candidicy.
Then you can be sure the Bolshifascistsocialists' will stay out of the White House.
Come on, Ron!!! While your at it, call up Al, Jesse, et al.

Why the huff
about blacks voting for Obama because he is black?

Same goes for women and Hillary.

They can vote for whoever they want for whatever reasons they want.

Why do think 90% of Utah voted for Mitt?

People will vote for candidates they can identify with. That's how Huck got the evangelical vote.

Who cares...Free country.

If we didn't ONLY have 43 white guys as presidents...well maybe people wouldn't be so excited about a change of scenery.

Just a hunch.

The Hillary Clinton “Laverne & Shirley”

What a Guy
Obama is wasting his time in politics when he could make a fortune joining a circus sideshow as he seems to be a unique physical speciman. Just think of this man. He is not black enough to satisfy black people but he is so black that he only got where he is because of Affirmative Action. He is an elitist smart-a** from Harvard and the University of Chicago but he is too dumb to be running his own campaign, which is secretly being operated by guilt-ridden white liberals. He was educated in a Madrassa (where the language of instruction is Arabic) but somehow is fluent enough in English to hold a crowd of 20,000 English-speaking Americans spellbound.

Obama : #1 Liberal Senator
Blacks are voting for the black candidate. Period. So much for the loyalty the Clintons truly earned for all their dedicated hard work on behalf of black communities. I am no Clinton fan, but even I will acknowledge that the Clintons truly cared for the black communities in the U.S., as evidenced by their actions over the past two decades. Nonetheless, blacks unceremoniously dumped their white benefactors the minute it appeared they had a legitimate black politician. Surprise, surprise. White politicians need to remember this for future elections. Wait until Obama becomes President....God held the United States.

What Obama record?
In the IL legislature he voted well over the 100 times mentioned by John Edwards of simply registering a "Present" instead of an actual commitment to an issue.
Now, after all of four years in the US Senate, he isn't even available to vote "Present" as he isn't present and has barely been for over a year on the pres. campaign trail.
So, what record of any kind does he have?
Has he ever sponsored any major legisltion?
What organizations has he been in an excecutive position, where he might have really led something?
What does he offer except 19th C. socialism and WW I pacifism?
So far, he's mentally created $600 billion, nearly a $trillion in "programs" he would sponsor from regulating drug companies (and who will make new drugs? Guam? Sri Lanka?), regulate health insurance (it's regulation that makes medical ins. sky high now), and raging union support, which means wherever there are unions, taxes and prices go up.
Obamanation is an empty suit that fills the tv screen. He no more offers change than my dog does. And for Am. defense and domestic security, he offers anti-war, anti-troop, and anti-self defense to us all. At least, that's a change. Most pres.'s want to protect the country.

lilly: Wow
Wow. Such candor from the resident apparatchik. This is either lilly's ham-fisted attempt at satire or she is experiencing a rare moment of lucidity.

Who is Obama really?

50%, 43.5% and 6.5% - Asian vs African....
Why is he linked to that wacko in Kenya trying to overrun the legally elected Pres. Obinga(Odinga)-Orange Democratic Party leader who wants to instill shari'a law immediately post take over of the country.

Who is Obarma ...part 2
Investigate Barack's Kenyan connections!

With Joe Klein in the tank for Barack and Dick Morris calling Odinga a client, the whole story has not been told and, for America's sake, it better unfold (very quickly, for Hillary's sake, not THAT quickly for McCain's).

Pamela Geller, Israel National News.com, January 9, 2008: "The recent revelations of [Barack] Obama's ties to Raila Odinga in Kenya are disconcerting... because Odinga is behind the terrible violence in his country. It was he who instigated bloody riots and killing after he lost the election. Obama's bias for his fellow Luo was so blatant that a Kenyan government spokesman denounced Obama during his visit as Raila's 'stooge.' And while there are few angels in Kenya, Odinga is the source of great unrest and turmoil; and the {Memorandum of Understanding] he signed with the Muslim Council to institute sharia [Islamic law] is a foreshadowing of a dark fate for Kenya."

Obama is not black!
His mother is white. his father is of mixed ethnicity.

so, why Ms Zito, are you calling him "black" ???

He is passing for black because of all the
benefits unavailable to all other anmericans which inure to him by virtue of his victimhood:

Like affirmative action placement in law school;

He also gets the undying devotion of adoring groupies who want to make "history" by electing the the first black" to be President.

Its kind of funny that they are actually electing the first white man who truly wishes he were black-in order to be elected President-assuming he wins.

Or for the younger black wannabees: the first wigger President.

(Hussein: all you need is a nice set of grilzzzz)

For Be Hussein Obangher, all things are possible when you can without question continually manipulate even the most obvious details of your life (like race) to fit the needs of the moment. and dont forget the side benefits such as automatically intimidating PC reporters like the timid Ms Zito who is is absolutely petrified to question and possibly "offend" a "Black man" .

Reparations like Roots
Salena are you kidding me? Ron Daniels! please, he has his nose so far up Jesse's butt, when Jesse's secretary pulled his pants down there is a tattoo with the inscription "Ron's lips were here".
Why did you think Jesse's diddlings became known?
the secretary was jealous.
What this boils down to is, will Mr. (O)prah be the reparations president, when Ron says at the end of your column he's voting for Obama partly because he's black and also because he's correct, that's what "correct" means reparations.
For veteran civil rights leaders it's their Roth IRA, do you really believe they love black people, they love "green" dead presidents.
Don't forget coming to a theatre near you
REPARATIONS: THE NEXT GENERATION....

Race Neutral?
THis is not a race neutral race. Both Obamas are pulling out the black/white card every time it will benefit them. THe media is the only ones who are not using the race card. And it only benefits Obama and hurts Hillary.

reply to cornpone harry
Hey, you can't diss Obama for getting an affirmative action placement in law schoo; black conservative icon Clarence Thomas benefitted from affirmative for both undergraduate and law school admission. I'll bet you don't mind that!

ANY PROOF THAT THOMAS WAS AA APOINTEE?
Could it be perhaps that his grades and performance got him into both undergrad and law school?
I am not sure of Obama's status on this either.
As far as Clarence Thomas is concerned, he paid for his seat on the Supreme Court by being subjected to a high tech lynching at the hands of 'The Emperor of Chappaquiddick' Kennedy and the 'Minister of Hair Transplants' Biden.
Aided and abetted by their black stooge, Anita Hill.

Gestell: Yes
Yes. It was Clarence Thomas' epiphany with respect to realizing the fundemental unfairness of institutionalized racism , i.e., Affirmative Action, that placed him on the path toward espousing his current "Conservative" Philosophy vice Mr. & Mrs. Obama's self-serving love affair w/ the hyphenated-American racial spoils system in perpetuity.

cornhole harry
I'm sure growing up Obama was identified by others as being "black"

If you had no knowledge of his parents ethnicity..

And the first time you ever laid eyes on the man..

How would you have described him?

I bet "black man" would have been part of it.

Get over yourself dude.

And by the way..what's up with this B. Hussein everyone keep writing.

I don't see you or the bigot writers talking about H. Diane Rodham Clinton?

Or J. Sidney McCain

OR G. Walker Bush

Got is C. Moron Harry!

Cornpone
just for the record his mother was a White woman from Kansas and his daddy is a black man from Africa. His stepfather was from the Philippines and he has a half sister from that man. Barack is half black and half white, but he does look all black.

Race is dwindling
This weekend my youngest sister said that she was helping her daughter (age 17) fill out forms to apply for a job, while the daughter was expounding as usual to teenagers that she was ready, willing and able to get out in the world and support herself and who needs Mama anyway.

Then she said, "Mama, I don't know what they want me to put in this space." She pointed. It said RACE.

My sister told her to put NA$CAR.

Obama:Hybrid Vigor
I'd say Obama is truly not black but African American, given his parentage. Which by the way, might explain his superiority in going so far for one so young. The Tiger Woods of politics?
Perhaps. Hybrid vigor we know results from cross-breeding livestock. Maybe it's true here also.
Whatever. He'll not get this old Republican's vote. But we may as well get ready for Inauguration Day as bands parade by the "White" House

reply to Demosthenes and Stand Tall
REad any biography of thomas, and you will learn that he got into Holy Cross (undergrad) as the result of a black recruitment program, i.e., an affirmative action program. He was admitted into Yale Law School on the basis of a similar program to increase the number of minority students in that traditionally white student population.

Both programs were classic examples of affirmative action. I'm not even raising any question here about Thomas's suitability for SCOTUS or even disagreeing with any of his judicial opinions, simply noting that he gained from precisely the sort of programs he opposed as a member of the Court. The question of hypocrisy is a matter between Thomas and his conscience.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!!
To parapharse Demosthenes, maybe, just maybe he did have an epiphany and felt that only the best and brightest among ALL races should be at the apex of higher learning.
Not being a mindreader, I have no idea how Thomas reconciles so called 'hypocrisy' with his conscience.
Again, to paraphrase another 'black progressive' to get rid of this racial spoils system that has been the focus of this nation for the last 40 years: "By any means necessary."

The traditional racial classification
Obama is black by the traditional American racial classification scheme: the proverbial "one drop of blood test." Conservatives should have no trouble accepting such a tried-and-true, traditional way to determine whether a person is black or white.

"One drop" (however we're supposed to measure that) means you're black. Obama passes this test with flying colors--no pun intended.

The leftist critics who are saying he's not black are basing their claim on a social constructionist view of race that conservatives aren't supposed to buy into.

So stick with tradition, ok?

Obama
His father is African.

His mother is American.

Put the two together....

AFRICAN AMERICAN!!

Moving along kids....

If you're going to write about somebody,
Ms. Zito:

If you are going to write about somebody, i.e. Ron Daniels, get it straight. "Daniels, a Democrat" is like saying "Joseph Goebbels, a writer" or "George Lincoln Rockwell, a civil rights activist".

Give me a break. Daniels is a communist, marxist, far-left socialist and if you researched his background you would have found this out long before I entered this discussion.

His record of communist/marxist affiliations include the CPUSA-front, National Lawyers Guild creation the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR); the old weekly "Guardian" newspaper, Maoist-oriented, once CPUSA/Moscow oriented; National Independent Black Political Party, a mixed black extremist nationalist and marxist group; Jesse Jackson's communist/sympathizer ridden Op. Push/Rainbow Coalition; and if memory serves me correctly, a sponsor of several Stalinist fronts of the Workers World Party (i.e. ANSWER and IAC/International Action Center). There are many other marxist groups that he was affiliated with but I don't have those documents/documentation in my office.

One might even check the CPUSA split off, Committee of Correspondence, to see if he is or was listed with them. Daniels hung around the Communist Party orbit for almost two decades, but being the opportunist that he has always been, he heads for the nearest radical cause that will give him a paycheck.

Also check "Transitions/Crossroads" publication and organization.

"Googling" is another way to find out about his background.

He is no more a spokesman for the civil rights movement than was Bull Connor, only Connor was more open about his true identity.

Ms. Zito: You are not the first columnist to believe the lies that your subject puts out to cover their real identity, nor will you be the last. But at least do some homework before you promote a fraud and a radical marxist.

more subtle, Madmax
Madmax, isn't there a possibility that Ms. Zito is much more subtle than you might have thought. Consider: perhaps she knew all about Ron Daniels. What better way to discredit civil rights workers than to identify someone whose leftist credentials are so easily found than to identify him in a seemingly neutral, beningn way?

I don't know if Ms. Zito is really willing and able to play nasty like this, but don't assume that she just didn't know any better. In other words, if somebody like Daniels is an Obama supporter, then clearly (as conservativs love to remind us) Obama is supported by all sorts of radical leftist enemies of America (who probably also don't like apple pie either).

Re Zito and Daniels real identity
Zito is probably too young to know much about internal security and the far-left. I experienced it starting in the mid-1960's and have stayed with it as a historian and columnist ever since.

You don't give people credibility at the beginning of a story and then try to play catch-up at the end.

I understand that PBS is doing a story on Pete Seeger, an unrepentant Stalinist and life-long communist. They will sugarcoat his record of supporting all kinds of communism, count on it.
