Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Despite assurances to the contrary from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, Democratic insiders are certain Sen. Joseph Lieberman next year will be kicked out of the party's caucus and lose his Senate chairmanship if he addresses the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., as planned.

Lieberman's Democratic colleagues willing to accept his support of Sen. John McCain for president consider speaking to the GOP convention as the last straw. Lieberman was re-elected from Connecticut as an independent in 2006 after losing the Democratic nomination because of his support for the Iraq war.

After his 2006 election, the Senate Democratic leadership agreed to give Lieberman the Homeland Security Committee chairmanship if he provided the decisive vote to make the Democrats a 51 to 49 Senate majority. However, with additional Democratic senators likely to be elected this year, that agreement is expected to be null and void in the new Congress.

OBAMA OUTSIDE

Old Democratic hands believe Sen. Barack Obama's decision to deliver his presidential nomination acceptance speech at the 75,000-seat Denver Broncos football stadium Aug. 28 ignores a lesson from 48 years ago.

The last presidential nominee to deliver an outdoor acceptance speech was John F. Kennedy in 1960 at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. That diminished the impact of one of his best campaign speeches, in which he unveiled the "New Frontier." The then-100,000-seat Coliseum was only half filled, and the sound was imperfect.

Technical advances in sound projection have been made in the last half-century, and Obama has been particularly effective in large outdoor venues. Nevertheless, Democratic pros feel the safer course for Obama would have been to give the speech in the 19,000-seat Pepsi Center, where the convention is being held.

SAVING MCCAIN

The nine Republican senators who switched positions Wednesday to pass the Medicare bill were taking their presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, off the hook to avoid the wrath of senior citizens and doctors.

McCain, who was on the campaign trail, was absent June 26 when the Senate fell one vote short of the 60 needed to pass a bill stopping a cut in Medicare payments to physicians. With his Democratic opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, present when the bill came up again Wednesday, Republicans feared that McCain would be blamed for blocking the measure.

The absent McCain was still opposed, but the nine Republicans switchers made his position moot. Three of the GOP converts are up for re-election this year and were under heavy pressure from the American Medical Association.

MCCAIN WITHOUT MURPHY

The possible return of political consultant Mike Murphy to help Sen. John McCain's campaign is definitely off, with the Republican presidential candidate's aides putting out word that Murphy will not be back. He has signed with NBC as a campaign commentator.

McCain was interested in returning Murphy, a key strategist in his 2000 presidential campaign. But it was determined that Murphy would cause too much friction within McCain's staff.

Murphy was not involved in the battle for this year's Republican presidential campaign. He had been close to both McCain and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, and did not want to choose between them.

Barney's Retreat

The House Republican minority scored a rare victory over the usually masterful Rep. Barney Frank, when he pulled from the House floor Wednesday a bill to protect as a "scenic wilderness" site the Taunton River at urban Fall River, Mass., in his district.

Such measures are routinely approved when sponsored by a powerful committee chairman such as Frank. However, Republicans launched a campaign contending that the bill was intended to block a liquefied natural gas terminal opposed by Frank. A surprised Frank indicated he was not prepared for a floor fight.

"It'll come back," Frank was quoted by Congress Daily. Congressional sources later said Frank might try again this coming week, with a possibility that the LNP terminal would be carved out and not included in the protected scenic area.

These people are disgusting. If we clean house in coming elections, there will be no one to represent the citizens in the Congress or Senate.

Hey, that sounds like a good idea. Time to take these elitists out of commission. I'll sit in for my reps until some real people who understand that we are the customer !!

This is depressing. Our choices are NOT choices !! They are all fools.

Just a thinker
Ditto

Yes it is absolutely
disgusting. The commiecrats will feel safe in ejecting the last "Scoop Jackson Democrat" because they are certain they will have a large majority in the Senate. What if Lieberman had decided to go with the Republicrats this Congress? It would have been the same when traitor Jeffords switch parties except Joe had a good reason.

As for the McLame wheeling and dealing to avoid votes, that is why you have to really keep track of what they do over the long run. These rating agencies like the ACU are all well and good but they do not tell the whole story. If you look at the way things went this year you would not know that McLame supported Cap and Trade.

Yes, it is time to clean house, but it will never happen. IF you vote for a Democrap or a liberal Republican YOU are the problem.

lieberman
i dont care what you think of this guy as a senator, good or bad. he certainly deserves to be kicked out of the democratic party and also to lose his chairmanship. you can make an excellent case for the idea that lieberman would have left the
party a long time ago, which he had every right to do, if he wasnt the greedy selfish thing who allowed everything to rise above honesty. he stayed in the party because he knew the dems couldnt do without him and he wanted those chairmanships. if he goes to the reps he shaould go to the bottom of the seniority list in that party in determining who will be ranking member on committesrs. i predictr that he will not run afain whenever his next election is. there is probably principle here on his part but it lies buried =so far uner a blanket of selfishness and false pride that you cant see it. he in efect blackmailed the dem party which some of you may enjoy until the next time when parties and roles are reversed ., and this is a common enough event so thet you can bet it will be.

Goodbye,Joe?
Joe is just another liberal,no matter what letter follows his name. A leopord cannot change it's spots.

The only reason he is even civil to Republicans is his support of the nation of Israel. On every other subject,he is just another liberal.

I often get a chill when I read Novak.
I already know it, but it is still chilling to hear how cut and dried politics are. You do this and we'll do this. There was a time when men of honor would have taken great offense at being asked to do other than vote their conscience. How have we come to this? Allowing ourselves to be ruled by elites. And look at the example set by some of these leaders when 1 of their number(Lieberman) does vote his conscience.

He differs only on that one matter of national security, and he has been proven correct. Yet this is how the democrats "appreciate" dissent. A lifetime of loyal and illustrious service to the party and country and he is ostracized for having a conscience and integrity. What a horrible example that sets. Horrible!
It's time you Americans with integrity stopped listening to the pretty sounding words of the democrats and look at what they do.

Goodbye,Tony
Tony Snow has lost his battle with cancer. We will see how the left pile on . It will be nothing like the respectful obits for Tim Russert from conservatives, and it is a shame.

Having
grown up in Bristol County, near Fall River I'm
wondering what's so scenic about Fall River's waterfront. The Taunton River has scenic areas, but this bill was designed to stop the
LNG terminal. If I remember correctly that area already has huge oil tanks on shore, it's not that pretty a place. In fact, Fall River isn't all that pretty, it's an old textile mill city that could use some economic input. My sister
lives across the river from the proposed site, that she was concerned about the safety of having this brought up river via ships. I don't think the section of the river in Taunton
called the Weir is all that scenic with old
mills on the river's edge.
Re: Medicare bill, it's business as usual, and
as usual, medicare is a mess, as with anything
government tries to take over from the private sector. I agree, dump them all, cull out the bad ones, send the good ones back with other good new ones. Since the good ones now are few and far between, we would have almost an all new Congress..well we can dream can't we.

Democrats
Joe will be kicked out? So much for the BIG TENT the dems are always bragging about

I hope Joe
who is the only dem I have any respect for, comes over to our side and Mccain appoints him Sec of State.
For the dems to treat this good man as they have done is a disgrace and shows them for the vile anti-American scum that they are.

When you look back over history and the men who served in the congress from either party, most were patriots who simply differed. This bunch aren't worthy to be in the congress and are in a word despicible.

I respect him but do we need another
Neocon Scoop Jackson Democrat in the Rep Party?

A war hawk (as long as it is the mideast) and liberal for everything else. Don't forget McCain-Lieberman's cap and trade swindle.

Vic
He is as liberal as they come. He supports the military because we support Israel. If (and when) that discontinues,Joe will be nowhere to be seen. He is certainly more liberal than even McCain.

It wont matter where Joe goes...
because he wont get re-elected in connecticut, not as an independent, or conservative...he's finished.

Secondly, Lieberman is no patriot...he's a tipical politician who after losing a democratic primary pulled a "Zoe Miller" on his state.

More importantly, Joe Lieberman has proven that his support for the Iraq war is based exclusively on this nations support for Isreal. In fact everything he does in terms of national security is centered around Isreal.

Should this country change it's position concerning [Iraq] or the amount of finacial support given to the state of Isreal, there's no doubt in my mind that Lieberman's "Patriot" view of this country would also change.

Further would Republicans tolerate someone within their own ranks who outwardly supported the other parties candidate, particularly if that support was not based on principles...I dont think so. Just look at what Republican's have done to all those who have come out and written books critical of the Bush administration. They've been called un-patriotic, un-american, turncoate's, traitor's and yes...liar's.

But Joe Lieberman...well he's a patriot!

Who cares about Lieberman
For him to switch to the Republican party is just having another uber liberal like McCain in the wrong party. They are both Democrats who will push the liberal agenda from "across the aisle".

cuttyshark1
Who is 'Zoe Miller and what did he do?

THE ENEMA
Would it could happen, a cleansing, a sweeping out of the trash, a major political enema to rid us of libs and RINO's in both houses. Partisanship can be understood, obstructionism for the sake of an agenda is destructive and I believe our present state of the nation could attest to this.

Would it not be a desired thing to actually see real leadership, commonsense, persuasive oratory and actual agreement to do the best possible to solve issues and fix problems? This would beat the decay caused by the endless nosensical bickering coming from the extremes in both parties. As it is now, the government is nothing but in the way and the goldbricks, losers and charlatans have a hand on the reins, time to break their grip and kick them out.

The party that touts itself
as bipartisan will throw Sen Lieberman aside because he dared side with Republicans on an issue.
The candidate running as a uniter has never participated in any bipartisan legislation or action in the senate. Never.
All about lies.

R.I.P Tony Snow
The author of the AP article announcing Tony's death displayed obvious restraint, only becoming snarky in two or three paragraphs, not throughout the article.

Can't wait to read the sober, sincere messages on the lefty blogs. Such nice people.

Good Bye Joe and John and Ed and . . .
Congress creates one mess after another. The taxpayers bail them out -- the mortgage debacle, bank failures, energy costs, the Farm Bill, immigration reform, Social Security, Medicare, etc.

They think we're an ATM machine.

Dump McCain or back Hillary
Look McCain cannot beat either Snob-bama or Hillary. For Pete sakes he cannnot even get more than one article a day on Townhall or any other right-wing web site.

The Republicans have got to notify McCain that for the good of the party he needs to step aside and let someone run who can actually run a campaign.

Either we - Dump McCain now - or everyone should back Hillary's PUMA group and get her to oust Snob-bama in Denver.

With McCain tanking this campaign we are going to get a Snob-bama in the White House.

So ask yourself, who do you want putting curtains in the First Lady's Mansion - Michelle Snob-bama or Bill Clinton.

Personally, I'll take Clinton over Snob-bama anyday beacause I want "Corruption we can beleive in" versus "Corruption we aren't sure about" - which is what you will get from Snob-bama.

So let's dump McCain or back Hillary 'cuz I don't want Snob-bama. Do you?

BTW: Have you heard that Hillary supporters have raised over $10,000,000 in jsut a couple of weeks and plan to have her entire campaign debt retired by this weekend so that they can dump Obama at the convention?

This is great news for everyone who is sick of SNOBAMA!

If you read the medicare paragraphs you can see what myself and others have been saying. If you make these people worry enough about their jobs, you can get them to do anything. McCain didn't even have to vote because the cross-overs were up for re-election and were worried about their job. Now, I will concede that the bill passed was liberal but the effect is just the same.

good riddance
Just like a Republicant to take to slurs of one's name. How juvenile! If you cannot make lucid arguments to support your "views" youshould read and listen to views that may not parrot your own. That is the way to come to a valid conclusion. Sorry to use such big words. Hope you understand. Georgia

You have GOT to be kidding...
Joe Lieberman spoke at Reverend Hagee's little get-together. Hagee is the man who praised Hitler as doing God's work by terrorizing the European Jews (those few he didn't manage to murder outright) into fleeing to Israel so the conditions of the apocalypse would be met. And here's an Orthodox Jew, Joe Lieberman, comparing Hagee to Moses and Miriam.

Geez Louise, Lieberman has finally gone psychotic enough to be a good fit with the McCain/Republican crew. As far as the Democrats are concerned, I'm sure there isn't a single one who isn't thrilled to see him go. I have no doubt that Reid is just waiting the November massacre to tell Holy Joe, "Don't let the door hit you on the arse on the way out."

After reading some of the - at best - semi-coherent posts on this site, I wonder how some of these posters manage to keep on writing, given the buildup of drool on their keyboards.

You guys certainly deserve this wackaloon. Maybe you can mate him with Ann Coulter and produce something along the lines of a two-legged pit viper.
