Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Former Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, a strong favorite to be elected to the Senate this year, has told associates that he is being considered as Barack Obama's vice presidential running mate. He did not indicate whether he would be receptive to such an offer.

Removing Warner from the campaign for the seat now held by retiring Republican Sen. John Warner (no relation) would turn a sure Democratic takeover to a question mark. Mark Warner is heavily favored against the Republican nominee, former Gov. Jim Gilmore, but no substitute Democratic candidate is at hand.

Although no Democratic presidential nominee has carried Virginia since Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964, Democrats see the state as being in play for the 2008 election and would like to see a Virginian on the national ticket. Both current Gov. Tim Kaine and freshman Sen. Jim Webb have been mentioned, but neither possesses Warner's prestige.

MCCAIN'S LOBBYIST

The embarrassing dismissal from Sen. John McCain's campaign of former Rep. Tom Loeffler as a top fundraiser because he is a lobbyist is blamed by political insiders on one of the many mistakes made when the McCain organization was put together.

Loeffler has been one of Washington's powerhouse lobbyists for many years, but he never has been renowned for fundraising skills. His most visible lobbying client has been the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Loeffler was a congressman from Texas in the 1980s and a major figure in the House as chief deputy Republican whip.

LIDDY IN TROUBLE

Sen. Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, who previously was thought to be fairly safe for re-election this year, has become one of the top Democratic targets among incumbent Republican senators. Only John Sununu in New Hampshire and Norm Coleman in Minnesota are considered more vulnerable.

Two separate independent polls show Dole leading the Democratic nominee, State Sen. Kay Hagan, by only five and four points, respectively. Sen. Barack Obama at the top of the Democratic ticket is expected to bring out a big African-American vote for Hagan.

Aware that she is in a difficult race, Dole has been traveling the state and spending no time in Washington when floor votes are not scheduled in the Senate.

SPECTER'S OPPONENT?

Pennsylvania's popular Democratic Gov. Edward Rendell is reported by party sources to be considering a race for the Senate in 2010 even if his friend and fellow Philadelphian, Republican Sen. Arlen Specter, seeks re-election.

Specter has indicated that he wants a sixth term in the Senate, but that may depend on his health. He is suffering from a recurrence of cancer.

Republican insiders believe that Specter might decide to run as an independent if conservatives launch another serious Republican primary campaign against him, as they did in 2004. A three-way election would all but guarantee the election of a Democrat.

WHY FOSSELLA STAYS

Hard-pressed House Republican campaign managers breathed a sigh of relief when disgraced Rep. Vito Fossella, the only Republican House member from New York City, did not resign from Congress this month, as it was widely reported that he would.

A Fossella resignation before July 1 would have enabled Democratic Gov. David Paterson to call a special election to fill the seat. Although the Staten Island district long has been held by Republicans, even more distinctly Republican districts in Illinois, Louisiana and Mississippi have been lost this year in special elections.

House Republican leaders did not want to conduct another special election, particularly in the wake of the Fossella scandal. When the six-term congressman recently was arrested for drunken driving in the Washington area, it was revealed he was maintaining separate households in New York and Washington. He satisfied what party leaders wanted by announcing he would not seek re-election but not resign for now.

Ray Nagin VP for BO.
I know it's not too likely but it is atleast possible.

Their campaign slogan could be "higher taxes for a bigger government."

Oh, the rage of the big business GOP elite who have throw social conservative values under the bus.

But in honesty if Obama did the smart thing he would nominate a conservative democrat in the mold of the democrats who have been winning congress seats like in Louisiana and Mississippi, as they are obviously on a winning streak. That would be the smart thing to do.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Many of us have suspected for a long time, that foreign money buys our destruction...I see. blame the president for our failed energy policies. O.K. they do deserve some blame.
Let me propose an alternative theory. Just for humor, mind you.
Scenario:
OPEC Members meeting...
If we spend a few million dollars in Great Satan's 'House of Lords' and brib-. wrong word, encourage them to vote against drilling for their own oil, and building nuclear power plants, they WILL become dependent upon us, and we can charge whatever we want.
Think about it. Their 'House of Lords' become rich and we become richer by a thousandfold.
Think about, and praise Allah. We spend a few million, and we get back TRILLIONS!
Praise Allah! Praise Allah! Praise Allah! Praise Allah! Praise Allah!
All in favor? I see the response is unanimous!
Mark Warner
Mark Warner did absolutely nothing for the State of Virginia. As far as I can see he makes his money through "non-productive means" like a landlord he sits on his purchased megahertz' purchased through his insider access.
As far as I can see he has no executive capability. He also has no legislative experience.
The only thing he did for Virginia was raise our taxes, increasing the regressive tax on the poor and putting us in a less competative position.
I heard him speak about Hurricane Isabel complaining about the bottles of water the Federal government was suppose to supply. I asked im what was the order of responsability, "He said local and Federal."
I said, "You mean local, State and Federal." and which point he said, "Right, local, State and Federal."
I said, "Don't you think the State of Virginia can and should be able to provide bottles of water for a localized limited catastrophic event?"
Apparently he didn't believe so - nor am I convinced Mark Warner has a very deep understanding of governement. The way he stayed out of trouble was to do presicely NOTHING but tax us.
Mark Warner is a windbag
Great! I hope he get's the nomination. Then when BHO gets clobbered in November, Warner will be off the political radar. Hopefully forever.
He didn't do squat for us in VA, and he's just an 8 by 10 glossy that will say anything to get elected.
A perfect match...two empty suits.
Mark Warner?
Well, if you like higher taxes you will love Mark Warner. His two major accomplishments were giving the state the largest tax increase in history and giving felons the right to vote.
He presided over a state with huge tax surpluses (turns out the tax increase wasn't needed) and watched the transportation infrastructure deteriorate while diverting transportation dollars to critical "give-away" programs and NEA bribes.
I still can't figure out why this guy is popular in VA.
VP
Who actually goes to the polls just dying to cast a vote for the VP candidate other than the candidate and his friends and family?
Sycophants
The Democrats are the elite wealthy in Virginia. They are the plantation party where no one can think for themselves.
They believe in utopia through government control. Their followers will say, yes Mark Warner raised taxes and isn't life grand.
Meanwhile small business men and women all over Democrat controlled Northern Virginia are down by an average 15% income plus the added cost of energy and wage inflation. The malaise is spreading in the high tax areas of Northern Virginia.
Virginia's Republican economic power is shifting to a State that predominantly makes money off the Federal government. This is why eventually we will become a Democrat State if we don't limit the Federal government.
Democrats know how to bride the right people to gain support and silence against the forced redistribution. They have cultivated the delusional "except for me" mentality in their followers. "We get "X" so the benevolent Democrat government will never hurt me.
They have programs that "reachout" to all segments of society for things like manufactured public "recognition" and awards.
They have Board and Commissions that review every aspect of society and tow the Democrat line, all based on the premise that they should be intruding on commerce and the private lives and rights of the individual except of course for deviant, bigoted behavior.
This was reinforced by Mark Warner's veiled illusion to him providing all for the State of Virginia.
Sycophants Part 2
The individual can't think for themselves so local government must think for them and control all aspects of how we live and do business. The most freedome exists on the State level which protects us to some degree from local government because we are a Dillon Rule State that says only the State legislature can make laws.
That protection will disappear with Mark Warner and the ever encroaching Democrat government dependence they favor. Mark Warner will help to further cripple the economy by bring the "pork" home and then we are well and truely caught. The Turkish Delight will enslave us.
This is how the Democrat royalty see things.
They take $200k of our money to tell people to walk with off course a local politician. They'll spend almost one million of our money to "market" our business location with a community event by one of the prescribed non-for-profits in the City.
So we pay the highest amount of taxes and get told what to do, what to say, what to eat and what to drink and it takes all our discretionary spending to do so.
They don't believe in the middle class because they cling to their guns and religion - so Democrats take from them until they are forced to leave town or take a government job or a form of subsidy. They can bring in like minded Democrats that like and want to be told what to do. They will subsidize them to ensure compliance and cooperation. After all they should demand their loyalty in return. There supporters are bought and paid for. They are willing to surrender to the State their minds, bodies and assets. What narcotic or mental illness could lead them to be so delusional?
This is how the polorization physically takes place and ultimately Mark Warner is the final nail in our conservative coffins.
Mark Warner and the Grateful Dead
Now that I think of it, he reminds me of the skeleton from the Grateful Dead.
He is stepping out and will walk all over Virginians as he spreads plague and pestulance.
Cake for a pint
I imagine life under Mark Warner will be like eating cake and having a pint of blood taken at the same time.
Mark Warner
And of course he'll smile while he's doing it, reassuring you that your early death is actually for the best.
And doesn't the cake taste good
And, "Doesn't the cake taste good?"
Obama-McCain
Obama is a Negro with an Arab name. McCain is a corrupt idiot. The turn out will be small for the general election because most american's realize the media picked these two darling's of the network. Chris Mathews and Tim Russert were demanding Hillary quit from day one. We know nothing about Obama except he is a closet racist, and we know to much about a corrupt McCain. Rob Lominac in Va Beach, Va
Warner?????
Who is he?
Center of Attention
What ultimately redistribution means is there will be no incentive to innovate because those in power can and do steal it.
It means there is no extra income to give away. No money to support independent civil institutions and life.
So the walk with the local politician become the focus of the community. It is the only thing happening.
They become the center of everyones attention and life. They are all important and so the American dream is dead, only the illusion will remain with the coming wave of redistribution already instituted through inflation.
So the valued traits will be theft not invention, cow towing not ingenuity, aquiessence not independence. When someone is commanding your life it is ALWAYS someone elses fault and one will always look to the government to solve ALL of their problems.
And so, we will live among people who are selfish and in perpetual want no matter what they control or how much of it they get from you and me.
Mark Warner is just another fly, eagerly rubbing his hands together, readng to fly to washington to gorge with the swarm on the carcus of America.
Webb??
You must be kidding. This man has so much anger in him, he could not successfully make it through a long, nation wide campaign.
Webb is vindictive and vengeful
He never forgets a slight - real or perceived.
He gets to satisfy that through power.
Virginia
The GOP needs to get as smart as the DEMS (hopes run eternal) and start encouraging, if not subsidizing, any and all GOP supporters of the DC area to relocate to northern Virginia (don't see why any should reside in DC and/or Maryland); the politcal landscape of Virginia has been changed by its DC suburbs.
Webb doesn't support the Constitution
Under the "Exept for me" syndrome he is willing and able to stop the Executive from staffing judges so we the people don't get timely justice.
He wants activist judges like in California who manufacture the law he wants because he, above all, know what is best for us.
Arlen and PA
This RINO needs to go Independent! I can only hope that the GOP in PA is able to put forth a true CONSERVATIVE who beats Arlen in the next GOP PA US Senate primary!
Arlen is elected by the very Independents and Democrats he would retain and deny any DEM candidate and the CONSERVATIVE GOP candidate would be elected. Bob K calls this scenario completely wrong.
dem v.p.
I say he will pick Richardson to try for the hispanic vote.
Warner? Webb?
Wasn't it Webb that was asked by the President
how is your son doing? And Webb shot a smart a**
comment back and the president said I didn't ask that...and Webb later said he came close to punching the President! A real head case!
City of Vallejo
In a San Fransisco suberb yet another California town has filed for bancrupcy because they promised unsustainable benefits to government employees and it was tose government employees who brought the City to bancrupcy.
My town has plenty of unfunded liabilities for government employee benefits and they aren't putting sufficient funds aside to pay for them.
I wonder what my town or Virginia will do once it has drained the reserve accounts for overbloated promises. Can a State file for Bancrupcy?
What does the Federal government do when it no longer can fulfill it's obligations? Can the US government file for bankrupcy to avoid social security and medicare/medicaid benefits?
Do we want to go through that? This is where we are going when people vote Democrat or really most of the Republicans?
I Hope So
That might mean we don't end up with two Democrat Senators.
The police came through
The police came through the neighborhood about a month ago and opened up all the unlocked cars and left a note saying they should lock their doors. Or in vans, notes on the windheild saying they shouldn't leave peronal property in the van.
Next they'll be trying our front and back doors of our houses to help - of course.
Police and Sheriff's Dept
As the Police and Seriff's office are run by Democrats and as they socialize quite a bit it is rather easy to informally pass on information that perculates up from the street about its citizen's.
Nothing like a strategic presence for intimidation, notice of ordinence violation, parking violations in front of certain stores, or delay on approval of reasonable development to discourage or drive out descent.
There are just so many ways to hamstring a population from resisting local government intrution and control.
Local Papers
Our two local papers as of this November are in Democrat ownership..so beside the internet, local Democrats have full control over information.
We have a pamphleteer and for that I am grateful.
We have a fairly nuetral regional paper but it doesn't stray far from the socialist policies Democrats advocate or their dysfunctional elite soap opera that assures them they are superior beings endlessly fasinating to the world, like Narcissus gazing at his reflection and saying "You're so wonderful.
Ex-Wyomite and King Liberal
You must like having your lives managed. Don't have much initiative accept when it includes gravy.
Webb must appeal to you because you equate his character with manliness.
Warren Buffett
Warren Buffett has done his analysis. I bet he thinks a Democrat will win or at the very least a Congress and Senate controlled by Democrats.
Apparently he understands that they beleive more government will fix it. Right along with Webb fixing justice the way he thinks it aught to be "fixed".
He is anticipating a crippling "well-intentioned" regulatory environment which will make it a LONG AND DEEP RECESSION.
Just like FDR they will prolong our suffering in the need to grab the last of our savings, invention and energy so they can redistribute it to the unproductive, their voters.
Perhaps we'll even have another three term president because everyone will be so grateful for the crumbs.
Government workers think they are exempt
Government workers are exempt in their mind of course according to the "except for me" creed and will rabidly work for Obama or Clinton subconsciously thinking this will save them.
So of course are the wealthy in their gated communities and the vaulted elite "creative class" cities protected from the malaise they helped create for a while - 2012 according to one study of crime trends.
Which is why the survivalists are disappearing into the hinter land.
Don't forget the bankrupcies at the local level - oh, sorry - did you think there was a guarentee? The unlimited ability to tax the American people will always be there you say? You thought it was an infinite resource?
Note to Liddy Dole
The American people when presented with a choice of a Democrat and a Democrat will choose the Democrat every time. Good Luck
Her is my prediction
Grading McCain’s veep prospects
Who should McCain pick?
Politico-It may not quite be the “Summit in Sedona,” but the Memorial Day weekend trip of three potential running mates to John McCain’s Arizona get-away cabin is certain to bring renewed attention to the presumptive Republican nominee’s hunt for a vice-president.
McCain aides caution that there is less than meets the eye. The get-together is all pleasure and no business, they say, where the only grilling done will involve charcoal and an open flame.
But Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney surely aren’t jetting out to McCain’s Hidden Valley Ranch to sample the senator’s rib recipe – and the candidate himself will certainly use the opportunity to get a better feel for three politicians who have already made a name for themselves in national Republican circles.
John Kasich
John Kasich
I Cant Understand it
"Only John Sununu in New Hampshire and Norm Coleman in Minnesota are considered more vulnerable."
OK, you love high taxes and illegal immigration,think the collapse of America's position overseas will lower gas prices and want the medical system run by the same geniuses who have destroyed our educational system then go ahead, vote for that shrieking Marxist harridan Jean Shaheen. You're an idiot but pretty much in the mainstream of our national idiocy at the moment. But please explain to me how ANYONE would consider voting for a piece of angry, incompetent, thieving, lying, foul-mouthed, vile piece of human garbage like Al Franken? Did all the Democrats in Minnesota go outside in this brutally cold winter (caused by Global warming, of course) without their hats on and get their tiny socialist brains frostbitten? When people compare the American electorate with lemmings the National Lemming Anti-defamation league should sue.
John Warner? But ...
... Isn't Virginia's other Senator, Jim Webb, preferable?
I find Jim Webb to be so!
John Warner? But ...
... I prefer Jim Webb, Virginia's other Senator!
