Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Strategists for Sen. Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign believe it is imperative to identify her high-flying opponent, Sen. Barack Obama, with the "McGovern wing" of the Democratic Party -- but they want to keep their candidate's fingerprints off the attack.

During the two weeks remaining before the important Ohio and Texas primaries on March 4, Clinton insiders want to spread the message that Obama represents the radical left-wing politics of George McGovern's 1972 candidacy, which won only one state. But they don't know how to accomplish this. When Clinton herself has launched past attacks on Obama, it has hurt her with voters.

The Clinton campaign is confident of winning in Texas because of the state's Hispanic vote. But it sees the need in Ohio to identify Obama as a leftist in the eyes of lower-income white voters, who often have supported Republican candidates against Democratic opponents they consider too liberal.

HISPANICS FOR HILLARY

Reps. Hilda Solis and Lucille Roybal-Allard, Hispanic-American Democrats from California, have been busy on the House floor lobbying uncommitted Democratic super-delegates to support Hillary Clinton against Barack Obama.

Hispanic voters have been the element in the Democratic coalition that has proved most resistant to Obama and faithful to Clinton. They were most responsible for Clinton's win in the Feb. 5 California primary, where non-Hispanic Caucasians broke evenly.

A footnote: The endorsement of Obama Wednesday by Puerto Rico Gov. Anibal Acevedo Vila gives him a big edge in the island commonwealth's primary June 7, despite a predominant Hispanic population, with 63 delegates at stake. The governor will put the Popular Democratic Party, Puerto Rico's most powerful political force, at Obama's disposal.

McCain and Huckabee

Insiders close to Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign have put out the word that there is absolutely no chance that his last remaining major opponent for the Republican presidential nomination, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, will become McCain's vice presidential running mate. McCain personally likes Huckabee, and McCain's campaign has not wanted to antagonize Huckabee's evangelical supporters, whose backing will be needed in the general election. But McCain's close advisers reject a place on the ticket for Huckabee, who is unacceptable to economic conservatives.

The immediate problem that Huckabee poses for McCain strategists is how to get him out of the presidential race without offending him. While Huckabee cannot possibly get enough delegates to be nominated, he worries the McCain camp by threatening to win an occasional state, as he did recently in Kansas. Huckabee attempted to upset McCain in Virginia, though McCain wound up winning the primary there by a comfortable nine points.

Arnold's Appropriator

Republican lobbyists and other campaign contributors were surprised this week to receive a $1,000-a-ticket invitation to join California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger at the Capitol Hill Club in Washington Feb. 25 for a morning fund-raiser in behalf of Rep. C.W. (Bill) Young of Florida.

A California governor raising money in Washington for a Florida congressman is highly unusual. As a senior member and former chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, Young influences spending important to California.

Young is a close ally of another Californian, Rep. Jerry Lewis, who succeeded Young as chairman and is now ranking minority member of the Appropriations Committee.

Murtha's Beneficiaries

The annual payback dinner by defense contractors who benefit from earmarks by Democratic Rep. John Murtha, chairman of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, will be held Feb. 27 at the Ritz-Carlton Pentagon City in Virginia, across the Potomac from Washington.

Murtha, a close adviser of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, is one of the leading earmarkers in Congress. The earmark recipients will be paying the $1,500 a person admission to "An Evening with Jack and Joyce Murtha."

Although the dinner is timed to coincide with the anniversary of Murtha's first special election to Congress in 1974, invitations for it were mailed just before the annual deadline for earmark applications.

Hispanics for Hillary?
You mean MEXICANS for Hillary. Puerto Ricans are citizens by birth, Mexicans are not, different incentives. Puerto Rico had many African slaves, there are many black Puerto Ricans, Puerto Ricans feel comfortable around blacks, they don't see blacks as completely foreign to themselves. There are very, very, few Mexican blacks, at most 1%, therefore Mexicans are not comfortable around blacks, they see them as other.

I don't know of any Cuban who would vote for a Democrat or a Liberal. There is no such thing as the Hispanic vote. There's the Mexican vote, the Cuban vote, the Puerto Rican vote, and so on, and look for more diverse voting patterns to appear among those groups as different generations becoming more assimilated or more ghettoized.

Race & Sexism
The "democrat"(communist) party has proven without a doubt they are the most racist & sexist party.

This should be a big issue, but won't be, because the MSM is that parties no one backer.

Obama '08=McGovern '72
Barck Obama is the George McGovern of the first decade of the 21t century. As soon as people figure out that Obama is as left wing as he is, then, as high as he may be right now in the polls, Obama would lose a general election badly.

Hillary Uses Bush Style Diplomacy

Politco-Putin vs. Clinton

When Hillary Clinton said, way back in New Hampshire, that Vladimir Putin “doesn’t have a soul,” I figured that would be the sort of thing the Russian wouldn’t be pleased about. But when I called the foreign ministry the next day for comment, it was Orthodox Christmas, and I let it slide.

He was asked about the remark at his press conference yesterday, however, and indeed wasn’t pleased.

The former KGB lieutenant colonel appeared to lash out at U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton — a leading Democratic candidate for president — when one reporter quoted her as saying that former KGB officers have no soul:

“At a minimum, a head of state should have a head,” Putin said.

Hillary Clinton's "souless" accusation..
...falls under the catagory of "It takes one to know one".

Protect Me Hillary
Thank God she is there to stop that evil leftist Obama from instituting such things as socialized medicine, gun control and higher taxes.

Political Pundits
Thank God for writers like Robert Novak. Novak brings us straightforward, accurate, and intelligent commentary unadorned with quips intended to entertain and shock us. Isn't it time that Townhall.com drop the hysterical commentary of comics such as Ann Coulter?

Huckabee didn't attempt to upset ...
... McCain in Virginia. McCain attempt to upset McCain by arrogantly dismissing the concerns of conservative voters after the Florida primary.

McCain only won by nine points, a pitiful margin for a presumptive nominee.

Swamp er man
Don't like Ann??
Truths are pesky things aren't they.
Did Barney leave you?

My favorite anti-McGovern cartoon was
when he was running for President, and he kept saying he would raise taxes.

The cartoon showed McGovern holding a flag that said "More Taxes" while standing next to a flag pole.

The caption read "let's run this baby up the flagpole to see if anyone salutes it."

Behind him were standing a couple of people giving a 5-finger salute, with the thumb to the nose!!!

See Kincaid Column on Socialist Obama
See Cliff Kincaid's recent column on the Accuracy in Media site in Barack Obama's socialist connections. Obama is more left wing than Clinton. For us GOPers, we may think that there are the known Hillary Clinton negatives that could help us, but I am starting to think that what may held us more will be the as yet understood left wing positions of Obama.

To pandm
pandm: Snide remarks do not change the fact that there are plenty of us who once liked Ann Coulter despite her excesses, but do not anymore. I think she has jumped the shark in supporting Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton is an anti-military socialist, who will increase government spending and thus taxes, accept defeat in Iraq, pursue appeasement policies in foreign affairs, seek outright amnesty in immigration, promote pro-abortion policies and nominate left wing judges to the federal bench. So that is someone whom Ann Coulter supports? In contrast, John McCain is a pro-life fiscal conservative who served his country as a Navy combat aviator and P.O.W., who has been a fiscal hawk and will cut Government spending, who has been right all along on Iraq and will insist on victory in Iraq, who has been and will be a hawk in foreign policy, who will cut the corporate tax rate to spur business, who accepts the judgment of the majority of American people that law enforcement in immigration must come first and who pledged to the Federalist Society in January 2007 and thereafter that he will nominate strict constructionists to the U.S. Supreme Court. And that is someone whom Ann Coulter cannot support? She has lost it.

There is one prob with your statement about Mexicans: if they are born on this side of the border, they are US citizens, whether or not their parents are here legally.

If they would assimilate, there would be no problem, but there are many barrios in the Southwest that are dedicated to reminding kids that they are Mexicans.

When Mexicans do break out and assimilate, they are just like every other American but the have to go against the tide to stay in school, study, stay off drugs, learn Engish, and develop ambition, they can get white collar jobs and live in the suburbs.

However, in Mexico, there is a severe caste system that keeps people self-identifying as peasants, maids, and ditch-diggers. There is also a corrupt governmental system that makes them have a distain for authority. In addition to this, there is a lie about the United States "stealing" California from Mexico, that makes them continue to wave the flag for Mexico and consider US the gringos.

The truth is that after the Mexicans kicked the Spanish out, there was only a space of about two decades where Mexico owned California, and then the US took possesion. Therefore, California was not really a Mexican state ever.

But in Mexico, they are teaching lies to their children, as if they deserve to own Alto California, and there is a plan to take it over by filling it up with Mexicans, who move here and breed like rabbits.

I PREDICT that if nothing is done about this situation, it will only take a couple of more decades where the Mexicans will outnumber "Whitey" and they will start screaming "aparteid" and take possesion of the region.

If John McCain and his buds across the aisle have their way, you can say goodbye to the Southwest as we know it.

To techreck
techreck: Nine points in the Virginia primary has been generally described as a comfortable margin of victory for John McCain in the Virginia GOP primary where there is a fairly conservative Republican electorate. More importantly, it is time now to focus on beating the Democrats, whose candidates may fairly be called anti-military socialists, with Obama farther left than Hillary. To Mitt Romney's credit, he stepped forward this week in endorsing John McCain. In my eyes, the best endorsement of John McCain this last week was from Colonel Oliver North, and his reasons resonated with me because my older son is a U.S. Army First Lieutenant (with Ranger tab) who until last October served 15 months as an infantry platoon leader in Iraq, earning a Bronze Star and an Army Commendation Medal for Valor for actions under fire.

Augustus McRae
I thought your post made a good point, that Hispanics are not a monolithic block. Good luck getting that point across to those who have so often confused an insecure national border with their rage at living with Hispanics in this country. "When I hear 'Press One for Spanish' I get angry" and "When I see Spanish signage on a grocery store window I get sick" has nothing to do with border security.

I am not Hispanic, and I do not look even slightly Hispanic, but because I speak Spanish (from childhood residence in a South American nation where my Dad's job took us) I have experienced anti-Hispanic prejudice. Not long ago I was speaking Spanish on the bus to a friend who is an Argentine physician here legally for fifteen years; another passenger, overhearing me, commanded me to speak English or go back to my own country. And several times when hearing me chat in Spanish with building maintenance staff, other residents have asked if I had any free days available to clean their apartment. There is huge anti-Hispanic prejudice, so don't be surprised that many folks expect all Hispanics to vote alike (after all, they all eat tamales and wear big sombreros, no?).

I'm votin' Obama :0)
I live in Texas and I'm votin' Obama! I will NOT EVER EVER EVER vote McCain. Nope! Let the Congress fight with the likes of Obama rather than more dysfunctional, confusion that Jorge Bush began. At least most of the weak-kneed GOP SHOULD have a clear enemy to fight, rather than a wolf in sheep's clothing.

lilly
give the world and for sure the TH crowd a break!
to castigate one side of the INVASION/Border Defense debates because there exists "fringe" elements on that side who do harbor bigoted views of Hispanics, but not mention the loonies on the other side who are just as bigoted toward Caucasians and call openly for the "reconquest" of a portion of the United States because Mexico lost it to the US after having siezed it from Spain is just like you.
As for the move which continues unabated due to the betrayals of "leaders" like McVain and Teddy to make this nation bilingual, English/Spanish, it has always been counter to the "melting pot" concept which has favored this nation since its inception. A bilingual nation is a divided nation, and this was once fully understood, and the USA has come as far as it has by being a UNITED nation, bound by the common language of ENGLISH. Divided is weakness and this serves the desires of the Liberal establishment. "E Pluribus Unum", one out of many; it has always been an unwritten requirement of US Citizenship to gain fluency in English because until the last three decades of the last century, it was the ony way to come to these shores and survive; one had to become a common part of.
In the Texas hill country, there are still communities in which the German language has been passed on and is still spoken at ceratin meetings and in homes, but the official language of business and government is English, although now these same decendants of immigrants are forced to accommodate the Spanish language. It's, ironic.

Mountain Rose
"if they are born on this side of the border, they are US citizens, whether or not their parents are here legally."

this is only true due to (primarily a single) a gross misinterpretation of a post-Civil War Constitutional Amendment. For the life of me, I don't know why someone or some state government has not challenged this US Supreme Court error.
How can it be that Foreign Embassy staffers who give birth in the United States, or UN personnel of foreign services, are not afforded the automatic "birthrights of US Citizenship" for their child that those who have NO legal residency herein are afforded?

Huckabee can't "possibly" win?
Funny, last I checked, McCain didn't have 1191 delegates yet. If Huckabee were to take every state from here on in with 100% of the vote, he'd win the nomination.

Simply because this won't happen doesn't mean that it is "impossible." The odds are such that Huckabee doesn't have anything remotely resembling a 'plausible' chance of winning. Regardless, I voted for him and continue to support him not because of his electability, but because I think he is the best candidate the Republican field has.

The rumor that McCain is unwilling to put Huckabee on the ticket in order to court economic conservatives is unfortunate. They tried giving us Giuliani, and he got subsequently pasted. They tried giving us Romney, and he lost on the matter of authenticity, and were that not bad enough, on the matter of his electability given every general election matchup poll badly.

Some of his supporters being nutjobs who can only cry "bigot" (particularly the punditocracy of talk radio) at Huckabee when the economic conservatives felt they had done what they needed to do to appeal to the social conservatives was further disincentive for us to congregate towards Romney. But after giving us Giuliani, was that supposed to win over our trust?

To his credit, Romney did gain the support of many social conservatives who were also economically conservative, but not those social conservatives like myself, who prefer a populist. Come 2012, assuming McCain doesn't win the White House, we'll see if the economic conservatives are in a less belligerant mood and can deal with the SoCon-Populists in a rational manner.

Phil Byler
My remarks to swamper were made because of his snide remarks made in other posts against all things conservative.

I have serious doubts about Ann really supporting hillary.
And, I would prefer McCain over hillary or obama.

lilly
I can't believe how obnoxious people were when you were speaking Spanish. That is just ridiculous. It's also ridiculous to assume that you must want to clean houses because you speak Spanish. I hope that was a joke, not a serious comment! However, I think it is caused by ignorance, not adherence to a particular political party.

I am against ILLEGAL immigration, and I am for English being the official language in the US, but that doesn't mean people can't speak Spanish, or Laotian or Hmong or Greek or whatever else they like and it doesn't mean Mexicans stay pigeonholed in particular occupations. The whole point of America is that it's a land of opportunity and a place for dreams.

My only concern is that we need a COMMON language so that we can all communicate, and a COMMON culture so that we all consider ourselves AMERICAN. However, that doesn't mean that people can't also speak other languages or celebrate their ancestry.

I don't like the hyphenation of Americans - we shouldn't consider ourselves African Americans, Mexican Americans, etc., but simply Americans who happen to have different ancestry but who are all now fully vested in this country.

I love to participate in events where I learn more about the background of different people, whether it's going to a Passover dinner with my Jewish friends or watching a parade on a Saint's Day in an Italian neighborhood in Boston. And I think it's great if Mexicans, Cubans, etc., can teach their kids about their heritage.

But they also must learn about why AMERICA is great, what makes this country special, and they must all learn English so that they can fully participate and assimilate.

Phooey....
.........this entire election stinks to high heaven.

Lilly: The first thing of yours that has a ring of truth about it. I can at least sympathize with your principal concern, speaking Spanish. Bilingual is OK. Monolingual for foreigners is not OK.
=================================================
The big problem is WAY TOO MANY Hispanics especially from a highly nationalistic and racial country like Mexico. They, as someone pointed out, do not like Blacks and are natural enemies as any black who has dealt with them extensively will tell you. So the feeling is mutual there.

Besides which they trust socially oriented politicians, socialism, which the illegals grew up with and consider natural and right. Points made earlier as to their mistrust of all authority are also correct. They have been lied to and had to bribe their way to get ordinary and extraordinary services all their lives. Mexicans are good workers as long as they are illegal and/ or first generation. That will come to a screeching halt when most of them get papers.

In Mexico they are poor workers and underpaid if they have a job. They are accustomed to bosses who spend little time working and fire them if they make a decision on their own and screw it up. Mexicans are given little training and again fired under any pretext. Little wonder then they carry a chip the size of a baseball bat on their shoulder when they come to a land they little understand and see instead as an opportunity to get theirs.

Too many all at once is the problem. There is no or little assimilation going on, period. I have no idea where our politicians heads are. They are either totally ignorant or paid off or both.

As a side note. Almost every home in Mexico builds tremendous fences and uses iron gates to protect their property. They even have in some cases big fences between poor and rich neighborhoods. What.??. We shouldn't build a fence too.??.

A Wonderful McGovern, WWII Story

George McGovern was a B-25 bomber pilot during WW II. Here is a story that all should know.

McGovern recalled one flight where they were returning from a bombing mission (Vienna) when a crew member called on the intercom and said one bomb was stuck on the rack, dangling out.

"I said, ‘Get rid of it.’ I wouldn’t land until it was off."

As the crew attempted to dislodge it, McGovern flew the bomber lower so they could work without their oxygen masks on. Then, in the middle of an Austrian farmyard, the bomb dropped.

"It blew the farmyard to smithereens," McGovern said. "I felt terrible knowing that farmers eat lunch around noon and that we had probably blown up a family. That bothered me for a long time."

But 40 years later, McGovern was a guest professor at a University of Austria and was on television one night. He repeated that story, and before the night was over, a farmer called the television station with a message for the South Dakota politician.

The man said: "Tell him it was my farm. We saw the bomber coming and knew it wasn’t in formation. So I got my wife and three children, and we hid in a ditch and no one got hurt. Tell him if bombing my farm made this war one minute closer to ending, it was fine with us."

Hispanics vs Blacks
Does anybody else watch Lockup? Doesn't every episode, in every prison, in every state show a black/Latino fight or riot either happening or being prevented from happening?

The Mexican police were pretty nearly all corrupt when we were there in 1973, trying to get them to arrest the guy who grabbed my wallet. A friend told us later that we should have crossed their palms with a few pesos and they might have been friendlier. What must it be like now, with smugglers of people and drug runners rampant through the country?

It must be like someplace out of which 20 million decided to get. And yes, they do take jobs from African Americans who have lived here for many generations. Working for less money and showing up for work every day makes them a desirable commodity, I guess.

Evil Republicans see them as Cheap Labor; Dems see them as a Voting Bloc. But if the Mexicans follow Juan Hernandez's edict, they'll forever see themselves as Mexicans and will never assimilate ... and will never realize the potential of being real Americans who can make themselves better than roofers or hotel cleaners.

Young African American males are worried that if they speak English correctly they'll be thought of as "being white." Mexicans, too, don't seem to realize that learning to speak English correctly is a prerequisite to success in America.

Good luck to all of us no matter who of the Big 3 wins the Presidency.

Hillary lies about NAFTA Support?

Hillary falsely claims she never supported NAFTA
As Obama points out to rust-belt voters that Hillary supported NAFTA, she’s crying that it’s just not true. Why would she bother lying in the internet age?

DavidSirota: Hillary Clinton has made statements unequivocally trumpeting NAFTA as the greatest thing since sliced bread. The Buffalo News reports that back in 1998, Clinton attended the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and thanked praised corporations for mounting “a very effective business effort in the U.S. on behalf of NAFTA.” Yes, you read that right: She traveled to Davos to thank corporate interests for their campaign ramming NAFTA through Congress.

On November 1, 1996, United Press International reported that on a trip to Brownsville, Texas, Clinton “touted the president’s support for the North American Free Trade Agreement, saying it would reap widespread benefits in the region.”

Lilly, and the rest of you

No one hates the Mexicans because they are Mexican. When you see a Mexican, or hear the language, that is just an identifier for all the things your have heard, or experienced from people reported to be Mexican.

Race, color, sex, dress, hair style, and on and on, are identifiers, your response is then based on what you know or have heard of people who look like that.
