Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The absence of Oprah Winfrey from the frantic four last days of the New Hampshire primary campaign after her heavy schedule in Iowa backing Sen. Barack Obama may be traced to heavy, unaccustomed post-Iowa abuse of the popular entertainment superstar by women.

Winfrey did not publicize it, but her Website was swamped with complaints after she went to Iowa. The principal complaint was that she betrayed women by not supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton. The criticism was described as personal.

Several of these critics identified themselves as African-Americans, indicating that gender is more important than race for many people.

NO JOE FOR MCCAIN

Close advisers of Sen. John McCain say there is no possibility that Independent Democratic Sen. Joseph Lieberman would be McCain's vice presidential running mate on the Republican ticket.

McCain credits Lieberman's endorsement for president last month as triggering his turnaround in New Hampshire, leading to victory in that state's primary last Tuesday. In addition, McCain and Lieberman are friends who admire each other personally. Nevertheless, Lieberman still votes the straight Democratic line in the Senate on nearly all issues except Iraq, and McCain's advisers feel Lieberman never would be accepted by the Republican Party.

A footnote: When Lieberman endorsed McCain, Democratic friends called his office seeking reassurance that he was endorsing McCain only for the Republican nomination and not actually the office of president. No, they were told, this was a real presidential endorsement.

OBAMA'S UNION

The politically potent presidential endorsement of Sen. Barack Obama by 60,000-member Local 226 of the Culinary Workers in Nevada, announced just after his defeat in the New Hampshire primary, was vigorously opposed by union members supporting Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Obama had lagged behind Clinton and John Edwards in winning labor support, but the Culinary Workers may be the biggest union plum. This endorsement could swing the Nevada Democratic caucuses Jan. 19 to Obama, though the state's party establishment supports Clinton. Backing for her by Rep. Shelley Berkley, who previously said she would stay neutral, was unveiled immediately after the Culinary Workers acted. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is officially uncommitted but is regarded as a Clinton supporter, with his son, Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid, heading Clinton's state campaign.

A footnote: Sen. John Kerry announced his support of Obama Thursday, waiting until his friends -- Sens. Joseph Biden and Christopher Dodd -- had abandoned their candidacies. He did not worry about endorsing against Edwards, his 2004 running mate on the national ticket.

GETTING BERNANKE

When Chairman John Spratt's House Budget Committee announced Wednesday that it would hold hearings Jan. 17 with Ben S. Bernanke, it meant Spratt had won an intra-Democratic race with Sen. Charles Schumer's Joint Economic Committee to get the Federal Reserve chairman to testify about the declining economy.

Both Spratt and Schumer wanted to hear from Bernanke the first week that Congress will be back in session following the year-end break. Bernanke said he was not going testify on the same subject twice in the same week, and he gave the edge to Spratt.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has made clear she wants the House to get ahead of the economic issue in this election year, and the Bernanke hearing is the start.

POOR HUCK

Although Mike Huckabee is first in the polls for the Jan. 19 South Carolina Republican primary, the latest Federal Election Commission (FEC) figures show him not even among the top four Republican presidential candidates for fund-raising in South Carolina.

Rudy Giuliani leads the South Carolina Republican money game, followed by Sen. John McCain, Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson.

Huckabee is also not among the top four Republican presidential candidate fund-raisers in two other impending primary states: Michigan (Jan. 15) and Florida (Jan. 29). FEC numbers put Romney in the money lead in Michigan and Giuliani ahead in Florida.

Oprah and Obama
Oprah should hold the line in her support for Senator Barack Obama if he is her candidate of choice. Woman who think they should vote for Hillary just because she is a woman are as foolish as people who vote for a candidate just because he is white or those who vote for Obama just because he is black. There has to be some other reason related to the voter's wish that his candidate's vision be carried out once s/he is president.

I'm not thrilled that Oprah came out in support of Obama. She has tremendous influence with women through her TV show and her charity. However, she has as much right to support him as any politician who declares his support for a candidate or any other popular personality who does so, also.

Advice to Media Stars
should stay out of politics and making political statements for their own good. Take Oprah in this instance. Not only has she indorsed Obama, but she is actively campaigning for him. Stars, be they video or audio, depend on the popularity of their wares and the sale of said material to the public. If you actively take the side of the Democratic Party as most do, then you automatically aggravate 50% of your potential sales base.

When you go out of your way to trash your primary sales base as the Dixie Chicks did the results can be devastating. The best thing to do is keep your mouth shut, vote for whoever you like, and contribute to who ever you like. The key is keeping your mouth shut. Endorsements really don’t do much good anyway and all it can do is hurt you financially.

"Oprah women", and any followers
of celebrities regarding their politic should be treated like the children they are and denied the vote. Sent home from the polls with complementary pop corn and soda so they can continue the worship of television.

I've become accustomed to people with strong, almost rabid, political views based on the opinion and report of Jon Stewart, Oprah, their genitals- its all the same difference.

We all Know,...
if Hillary was black, Oprah would be on the Hillary stump right now.
P.C'ness has been so insidious that we don't even think to point these things out anymore.
Let alone, would someone like Oprah be introspective enough to see that in herself.

But, what do we do about the Oprahs and the intellectually shallow followers of popular opinion.

Well, as they say you can't kill them...but certainly lowering the voting age was a stupid thing to do. So, of course was the drinking age, the age of "consent", some of us think you should teach first graders sex education... some minds just never do reach the "age" of reason.

"Oldsocalworker'...if you were, when did you begin to see the difference between facts and fictions?

THE FIRST BROKEN PROMISE
More RED ink!

NYP– How about that Hillary Clinton: She’s already breaking her campaign promises - and she doesn’t even have her party’s presidential nomination yet.

Clinton yesterday reneged on her vow to explain how she’ll “pay for everything” she proposes when she pushed a whopping $110 billion “economic stimulus” package - and offered no fund source to underwrite its cost.

Gee, that was quick. Wasn’t it just a few weeks ago that the former first lady was an apostle of “fiscal responsibility”?

Yes they switched audience but had a nice long dry spell from 2002 until 2006 before an album made it back to the top 10. In addition, the album m making it to the top 10 did not make it in the country field.

Their anti-US speaking while overseas cost them big time at a time when their career was peaking and they have so far been able to recover only slightly.

What I said still holds true, it cost them big time.

Racial tensions roil Democratic race

Will this startegy backfire on Hillary?

POLITICO-A series of comments from Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, her husband and her supporters are spurring a racial backlash and adding a divisive edge to the presidential primary as the candidates head south to heavily African-American South Carolina.

The comments, which ranged from the New York senator appearing to diminish the role of Martin Luther King Jr. in the civil rights movement — an aide later said she misspoke — to Bill Clinton dismissing Sen. Barack Obama’s image in the media as a “fairy tale” — generated outrage on black radio, black blogs and cable television. And now they’ve drawn the attention of prominent African-American politicians.

One can not fault blacks for supporting Obama for president. This is the first black contender that really has a chance of being elected. H*ll, I’ll admit that I supported Jimmie Carter for president during his first campaign. I was in the Navy at the time and overseas. All I knew was that he was from GA and that was where I was from. I later found the error of my ways and voted for Reagan in the next election.

What I can blame blacks for is racially bigoted remarks and venom spewed at black candidates who do not toe the liberal Lamocrat line. To me this speaks to volumes of hypocrisy.

DISCRIMINATION
Voting for a candidate because of/or lack of gender or race is discrimination.

Americans should be focused on issues of responsibility and accountability, not gender, not race, not religion, but issues which cut across the states and unite us as a nation.

Certainly we all disagree with one candidate or another (find out your own here: http://www.speakout.com/VoteMatch/quiz.asp?quiz=Pres2008 )

Endorsing a candidate just because of gender or race is discrimination due to the disenfranchisement it invokes.

And if you're voting based on your "emotions", do us all a favor and don't vote. The last thing we need is a president voted in because he/she made us "feel" good.

Women Voters
As a woman, I find it shallow and disappointing that there are women who use their precious vote for a candidate based largely or solely on the candidate's skin color or sex. Far more important is how a candidate stands on all the important issues and whether they have the experience to head the most powerful nation in the world.
I cannot help but wonder if Oprah's endorsement is largely influenced by Obama's Black heritage and passion to help Africa. It disturbs me that women vote for Hillary without knowing her positions, but simply because she is a woman.
We shouldn't be encouraging everyone to vote, we should be encouraging only those who have educated themselves on the issues and the candidates' positions to go to the polls.

Vic
I challenge you to rethink your statement.

Hold Black people accountable for being responsible and voting for the issues not someone within their race just because he's Black.

Hold Black people accountable for rising above the rhetoric about race and its use in our politics and society as a weapon by looking at the issues and logically voting for someone who looks to unite ALL AMERICANS not just those of one race or gender.

One foundational characteristic in EVERYONE is the factor of ACCOUNTABILITY. This trait is in EVERYONE and affects EVERYTHING we do as a nation.

The ability to understand this concept leads to response-ability, being able to respond to life's challenges in a manner that is of no cost to others.

All is done within the power of individual choice.

If a candidate would understand this concept, and stood from this position he/she would never again worry about spin, getting caught, slips of the tongue, etc.

I'm still waiting for that candidate to show up.

We ALL are still waiting for that candidate to show up.

the stupidity of the clinton's concerning the dr king remark is unbelievable. Dr King holds a special place in the memory of most blacks for his courageous stands against southern dims for their approved policy of jim crow. Making light of what occurred during those years is unconscionable but then typical of the clinton's. They have always taken the black vote for granted and have taken offense at obahma possible taking this sector of votes from them. Perhaps now blacks will awaken to the closet racists the clintons truly are. There are numerous stories of clinton distain for blacks and the missus clinotn has been known to utter the "n" bomb on numerous occaisions. I recall that when toni morrison referred to bubba as the first black president it was not a compliment but rather that bubba exhibited some of the worst traits associated with black men. Bubba of course has used it as a badge of honor which must be insulting to most blacks as bubba is no more than a priviledged white using others to further himself and his wifes lust for a return to power

Spot on!

Great post and well said.

I'm one gal
who does not watch Oprah, believes that the Hollywierd nitwits should stick to reading scripts/following the music on the sheet in front of them, and has never believed that sex or skin color should be the defining factor in any decision regarding a vote for anyone running for public office.

Women who vote for Hillary "because" she's a woman ought to be denied the vote. Nobody can need a female President so badly it doesn't matter what her view of the role of President is. I hope.

Have you noticed that MLK has moved steadily down the ranks of the liberals.

They're finding out MLK was a "Traditionalist American" and a "Christian". This guy actually loved his country and liberals can't afford to have Black patriots.

MLK believed in freedom and equality... That is too far away from the White Democrat thought of "Plantation-Nation".

Today, MLK would be called an Uncle Tom by Democrats.

scooternyc
Hve you ever heard of the "favorite son candidate"?

What this means is that people tend to overlook the negatives in a candidate that falls in this category. It is the "ugly baby" syndrome, as in no mother ever thinks that her own baby is ugly.

This syndrome in particular shows up during a first time occurrence. It still shows up during later occurrences but it is not as strong or prevalent.

Sure we should all only vote logically for people who are true patriots, who only have the good of the country at heart, and of course, who are real conservatives that believe in following the Constitution.

If you believe people are going to do that I have some bridges for sale.

Wildwest
As was discussed in a column yesterday, I'm sure that Clinton thought she could get away with it because the media would giver her a pass.

Well the media gave her a pass, but the professional race baitors didn't so the media was forced to pick up on it.

As long as the media is going to give an open microphone to the Sharptons and Jacksons they are not going to get away with some of their old habits.

Now if they had been talking bad about Condi or Thomas nobody would have uttered a peep.

wildwest
I encourage anyone reading your post to question your integrity as you seek to be offended which raises questions as to your full intent.

Clinton stated facts - Dr.King was the leader of the movement and the dream; LBJ supported and got the legislation through with the further support of Congress. Nothing more. Where's the issue? http://bourbonroom.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/01/07/clintons-c andid-assessment/

Unless Clinton speaks anything further to this and reveals herself more, her statement is not of concern.

No endorsement of Clinton on my part, as you may try to invoke. I watched and heard the statement made on Hannity last night and there was nothing to dispute in its fact.

Vic
So you reveal yourself as part of the problem and not the solution.

You're willing to continue the rhetoric and stale ideas of voting from the past rather than challenge others to stop thinking in old ways about the "ugly baby" idea and encourage them to step aside from that canard and vote responsibly.

say no to an oprahized nation!
If Novak is right and Oprah is getting alot of grief from women for "abandoning" Hillary in favor of Obama, she will drop him like a hot potato.

Oprah must have her adoring fans, and she will not jeopardize her fan-base to prop up Obama.

She has become accustomed to fame, despite possessing no discernable talent...obviously not a requirement in this day and age.

I am not necessarily favoring Huckabee(in fact I am tilting toward McCain at this point), but I think it too early to dismiss him. He won't do well in California or New York, but may be appealing in the south, midwest and corn belt, and mountain states. Neither Florida nor Texas are traditionally southern anylonger, but if Huckabee does well in those states, along with the areas I mentioned above, he will be in a strong position.

Still, New York, New England, Illinois, California all carry a big load of delegates. He needs to do well in some of them, at a minimum.

scooternyc
I think you are going off the deep end and making a mountain out of a molehill.

Vic
No, what I'm doing is logically pointing out to other readers the nature of someone like yourself that seeks to be offended and seeks to engage in victimization, both of which need to be diminished in our society.

You don't like the idea that who you are is being unmasked because you like to come onto sites like these and drop your emotional-Molotov cocktails to incite rather than speaking reasonably to people about important issues that are of concern to ALL AMERICANS.

I couldn't agree more.

One of the least responsible people in the "lexicon" of celebrity.

Oprah critics...

Are just bigots. Who can criticize a Black woman for supporting a Black man? Obama is closer to Oprah's political view than Hillary.

Hillary has claimed support for Black America for the past 40 years....

Prove it Hillary!

Get out of Obama's way! Step aside girl!

John Konop
Good points on fiscal responsibility.

You can't be fiscally responsible if all you're ever doing is spending money trying to make people "feel good".

Democrats are the least compatible with Americans who seek economic freedom.

Republicans get no free pass, they, too, need to get their financial house in order.

And no, I am not, have never been and never will be a supporter of Ron Paul. The man is unhinged.

Carlos
"Who can criticize a Black woman for supporting a Black man? "

EVERYONE.

It's not reasonable or logical, not to mention irresponsible, to think any person should be endorsing or voting for someone just because of race or gender.

It would be like you thinking it was okay to vote for a candidate just because he was gay.

Oprah-bama
Oprah's support was not policy driven, as there's little policy difference between Sens Clinton and Obama (at least as far as we can tell with either of them). Oprah was simply swooned by the utter rockstar charm of Obama. Jumped on the bandwagon like all the other swooning groupies. She is a passionate person and is given to acting on her passion--often there are consequences she didn't foresee, because she's also naive.

Scooter - -

And I think Bob Novak nailed it in his overall perspective.

Incidentally, read his book. "Prince of Darkness" is excellent.

"All Americans"??? Really???

I am not "equally complicit in worshiping at the altar of Hollywood and that power that we give them...through ticket sales and net grosses..."

Americans are not complicit in worshiping at the altar of Hollywood simply because they buy a movie ticket for a matinée. There is no specific endowment of power by virtue of one's becoming a celebrity. Celebrity commentary or endorsements mean nothing to me, and I dare say most Americans. By watching movies I do not convey the power of political endorsement to celebrities for good or bad. I contribute to charitable causes because I believe in the cause, not because Brad Pitt says its okay. I choose my political candidate for my own reasons, not because Chuck Norris, John Kerry or Oprah endorse them. How many thinking people truly accept political guidance from Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Tim Robbins, Alec Baldwin and Barbara Streisand? Well, I suppose a lot of non-thinking liberals...

Who's afraid of the Big Bad Wolf...

Republicans are missing the point...

Obama can not win in November. Hillary can.

And Hillary will be able to pass more garbage than Obama could ever dream of. Bill would be back in the White House, rubbing our noses in the doggy-do.

Would we rather risk gridlock with Obama, or have Hillary feminize our sons?

It is frightening to me
that we are debating the wonderfulness of a black or a female president when there are so many worrisome issues facing our country.

I am worried about financing of entitlements, terrorism, illegal immigration, earmarks and deficit spending, loss of freedoms through government curtailments of things like choice of light bulbs and cars, and finally drilling in Anwar and off the coast .

As a woman, I am embarassed by uninformed females who will vote for Hillary just because she is a female. I don't watch the frivilous View or watch Oprah because these programs don't inform or expand the mind. I wish they day time TV watchers would become absorbed in a program about political matters and the problems facing our country.

amen

Carlos, Loco
Like your posts.
I would add that passing legislation is the purview of congress, not the president. So one way to dilute the effect of whoever is elected to the WH, is to pay attention to who you send to congress. All that successful legislation in the 90's was not passed or even initiated by Bill Clinton. To his credit, he signed it (and took credit). We had a strong Republican congress.
Sens Clinton and Obama can't legislate all these entitlements from the WH unless they're talking to the current D congress. THEN we'd be in DEEP Sht.

People often choose a president based on some legislative agenda, and ignore who their congressman is. Dumb.

Oprah and her O-mentum
I can't help but use my female intuition to speculate that Oprah has insider's perspective on Mrs. Clinton that has caused her to make the risky, personal leap into the political arena by supporting Mr. Obama. Oprah is a lot of things but I don't think she's impulsive. She thought this through and had good reason to throw her weight behind Obama.

Seems this election, for both parties, is more about voting against
Mrs. Clinton.

Carlos
Why do you think that Hillary can win, but not Obama?

The general consensus seems to be that the GOP desires a Clinton nomination for an easier battle in November. I agree, believing that Obama has less baggage and greater appeal to the electorate than HRC.

loco...

I agree. Sadly, every worry you mention was passed by George Bush.

Republicans can easily lose this election, and the blame rests squarely on a "social conservative".

If we lose this election... the loss is deserved.

scooter said "Hold Black people accountable for being responsible..."

"How precisely is that accomplished? Is that done through re-education, legislation, social ostracism, denial of service, fines? I know you don't mean any of that, so what precisely DO you mean?"

The very nature of your question shows that too many people are under the idea that they, individually, are not responsible for their personal choices, which create situations for which they are accountable.

The best approach is to support others in learning how to evaluate personal choices – the approach of action to reaction to outcome. All done within the concept of “no cost to others”.

scooter said "Endorsing a candidate just because of gender or race is discrimination due to the disenfranchisement it invokes."

Voting for someone just because of gender or race disenfranchises others who do not belong to that particular sect.

scooter said "You're willing to continue the rhetoric and stale ideas of voting from the past..."

The blogger you’re referring invoked an old adage that you vote for someone because they are your “kin” not for any other reason. This is a stale idea from the past.

”I truly am interested in knowing what your point is on this thread and wonder if you wouldn't be so kind as to articulate it clearly and succinctly, without the distraction of arguing with demurrers. Thanks.”

I’ve made my points very clearly – be accountable – act response-able – understand the power of your individual choice and the outcomes of those choices – consciously.

I've read your answers quite clearly - perhaps you are unaware of your own personal agendas within your writing which slowly present themselves as you write.

Your emotions have spilled into your writing which itself is an invocation of instability and victimization. Victims always seek to be offended, which of course, you revealed in your latest post...

Contempt for the person making the observation which is itself being "offended"

Now you're offended that your credential as a regular blogger here isn't given a pass, respect, et.al.

All emotional responses which seek to be offended.

You can't help yourself...it's in your nature to be offended.

A vote for John Pelosi is a vote for the North American Union.
He keeps insisting that what Americans really want is the border protected. Did he miss the part that 85 % of America voted against amnesty. His home state now is under siege. They have lost billions of dollars in wages because of illegals working for lower wages, thereby lowering the wages of American workers. Ariz is fighting for their state and getting no help from government.
He tries to say he is acting out of compassion,as if the people against amnesty have none. Hillary and Obama say the furor over amnesty is caused by Lou Dobbs. Guess they missed the vote about amnesty too.
John Pelosi doesn't show any compassion about the illegals being exploited for years for slaves wages.

When I worked in corrections, the belief at the time (mid-late 80's) was that there were "no job opportunities", and beside an inherently unfair capitalist system, that was what caused the uptick in violent crime. Of course, this was blamed on Reagan; nevermind that we were actually seeing the inevitable fruits of great society policies- which flow from the educated higher class. Our "educated" class simply cannot/will not learn; it prefers dogma.

Racism was rampant in the prison- lighter skinned and darker skinned blacks had no use for each other, the latinos hated each other based on country of origin, and everyone seemed to hate the Puerto Ricans. Whites tended to straddle the various groups a bit better, but there was plenty of arbitrary hatred to go around. Funny- since many of the incarcerated are actaully victims of our white, male, patriarchal society, how is it that they found hatred within their pure and humble hearts?? His plan is to make illegals pay $5,000 and then they are citizens. Who is going to pay the $5,000? Evvery illegal over 18. Every head of household, which in that case we would find they are all related and only one head of household. When there are 17 illegals living in a 2 bed apt who is the head of household?
What is he going to do? Drive around in a truck and say "hey, you got your $5,000? No? Get in the truck you are out of here.
Or will he set up a tax paid agency to find out who paid it and who didn't? And then another agency to help the ones who don't have it. Either he didn't think this thru or he is hoping we won't.
I would like to know how he found out there was a soldier who's wife was being deported. Can the compassionate act and trying to lay a guilt trip on us. We know you're doing it for the Mexican vote

Huckabee
They keep telling us it is impossible to round up 12,000 illegals and send them home but Huckabee thinks he can get them all to go home and come back in a few days and be legal. Am I missing something here?
McCain tries to act as if building the fence is all Americans want. If they started the fence today it would be 10 yrs to build enough to have any effect. Since they will get amnesty they will pour over the border at an even higher count. And at the rate they have babies , there won't be a reason for the fence. By that time we will be a third world country. Who are the people voting for a candidate that supports amnesty? Where are the 85% that voted amnesty down. I am sending my money to Fred. Because if amnesty passes all other issues will be moot.

Huckabee
Huckabee's 18 yr old son while working at a boy scouts camp, caught and hung a stray dog. They stoned it and slit its throat. I realize that you can't fault parents for everything their kids do,but then he fired his Chief of Police because he wouldn't cover this up.
Huckabee has a bad record when it come to fighting for animals rights.

Oprah
When Slick Willy was running the Clintons were Hillarys darlings. But let a black man step up and that ends that. She is a racist. I was wondering why I hadn't seen Oprah with Obama lately. Is it because of the flack she is getting?
Why are Oprah and Obama for amnesty. They must be aware how many jobs illegals have taken from the black sector. The ones supporting amnesty ...oh excuse me ...comprehensive immigration for undocumented workers...are going for the Mexican vote and they will sell out America to get it.

Oprah
Gee Oprah may have to give away some more cars, etc to get her standing back.

ex-Wyomingite
Clearly you're not as well informed as you brag since you cannot understand the simplicity of the statements made.

Also, like Vic, you like to be offended as such as your post reveals.

It can't be any more simple than stating the obvious:

For every action is a reaction

You are accountable for your actions

These actions are your personal choices

Your accountability is based on taking ownership of the facts that face you

Being response-able is being able to respond to that reality

You think Townhall folks are all that responsible and accountable, but you're not. You engage in the same victimized rhetoric, albeit not as much, as the liberals of this world.

Your emotional response and attempted insults to me (no use as I'm never insulted or offended by anything said - I welcome the revelation of others emotional instability through angry responses) reveal your lack of ability to even engage in simple dialogue, ideas and thoughts.

Hillary's November...

Hillary will pull a majority of these Democrats:

*The White Women's vote
*The Latino vote
*The White-trash vote
*The White Union man's vote
*The White European immigrant vote

Obama will never pull any of the above.

Hillary is electable, Obama is not.

Simple subject
Oprah said she was building a school in africa because the American children did not deserve one.
Hillary's flip flops back and forth on issues leaves one wondering where she stands .

"Discrimination: Voting for a candidate because of/or lack of gender or race is discrimination."

That is an extremely clumsy sentence, but we all get what he is gleaning. Scooter feels voting for a woman "because she is a woman" or an african-american "because he is an african-american" is a form of discrimination.

However here are the numbers showing how many african-americans were elected into Congress during the last 100 years:

Senate:
democrats: 2 (Carol Mosely Braun & Barack Obama)
republicans: 1

OK. Not such a disparaging difference there.

Let's look at the House numbers:

democrats: 88
republicans: 3

Republicans are not electing african-americans into office. Calling republicans the party of "priveleged white men" is not entirely without its truth.

Democrats have their racist past to be sure, but conservatives are the party of "tradition". Traditionally, women & blacks have been discouraged to run for public office. Traditionally gays have been discouraged from being open about their sexuality (don't ask, don't tell) & this a still a proud tradition of the republican party (Mark Foley, Larry Craig, former chairman of the RNC Ken Mehlman. Mary Cheney having a baby with her life partner drove conservatives up the wall).

I find it impossible that republicans can't find a few good blacks , openly gay or latinos to represent them in Congress, I find it impossible that republicans can't find ONE good woman to run as a presidential candidate.

Please remember that while voing for a black candidate simply "because he is black" may be a form of discrimination, voting against a black candidate because he is black or not offering up any black candidates at all for extended periods of time is also a form of (obvious) discrimintion. I hope republicans can redress this inequity in the future.

“That is an extremely clumsy sentence”

Not at all, it’s efficient, unlike the loquacious explanation you proffered.

And much like the rest of your post.

If you’re voting for someone on anything other than the issues that are germane to ALL AMERICANS, you’re simply not paying attention.

Hillary's November
More racist remarks from Carlos. Good for you.

No offense.

But post after post after post from you responding in your semi-belligerent fashion suggests you have serious issues that a forum like TH.com might not be able to alleviate.

Actually you give yourself too much credit. I am never offended by simple ignorance. I would love to sit here and type responses to your inane posts but I have better things to do.

Oprah has a crush on Obama...
Can't you guys tell the REAL reason Oprah has been campaigning for Obama? (somebody gotta crush!) Anybody can campaign for their favorite candidate. She doesn't have to support Hillary because they're both women. Women don't have to vote for Oprah's favorite candidate or Hillary either! Vote for whoever would make the best President instead of 'having a cow' over the sex or race of the candidates.

"That is an extremely clumsy sentence, but we all get what he is gleaning. Scooter feels voting for a woman "because she is a woman" or an african-american "because he is an african-american" is a form of discrimination."

Nice twist. No, that is more like affirmative action. Of course you don’t mention all the blacks (R's or conservatives) in leadership positions. Bush tried that idea in nominating Harriet Miers to the Supreme court. What crashed her was not being a woman.(discrimination) But that was the rationalization for her nomination.
See the difference?

Empty promises....
Obama's campaign is a duplicate of the campaign of Deval Patrick, MA Governor. They are friends & talk often.

Patrick's campaign slogan was "Together We Can" and the sheep flocked to an open promise of what?? The more intelligent voters asked "together we can do what?" Obama's slogans "Change We Can Believe In" and "Yes We Can" - well I have to ask a question again...." We can do WHAT"??? Both campaigns have no substance to them just empty slogans which draw people who don't want to do the research but love the "feel good" message. We're in a Oprah/Dr. Phil/Girls Gone Wild society where people no longer have to or care to take responsibility for themselves.

I believe Romney has the best chance to beat a Democrat - he's intelligent, a proven businessman and leader, and has a plan for everything he speaks about. He's presidential!! The MSM & radical conservatives have been biased and untruthful with regard to Romney.

McCain - I won't vote for because of his Amnesty Bill with Kennedy and he's too old! Huckabee is a one hit wonder and I won't vote for someone who runs their campaign from the sofa on a late night TV show.

I believe this is THE most important election we will partake of in our lifetime. We can't return to a Democrat POTUS. The Republican party MUST come together and sooner rather than later!!

Racial tensions roil Democratic race
Will this strategy backfire on Hillary?

The Clintons Plan...

*Split the Party into Black vs. White.

*Take the nomination.

*Blame the Republicans for the whole misunderstanding.

BHO won't win
The Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Junior had a dream.
It was for equality for all people.
He probably hoped that his dream was on the way to being realized with the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

The liberal democrat politicians were not about to let the Reverend’s dream come true.
They had a plan (correctly called reverse discrimination) which would pervert the dream and cause an increase in racial animosity.

They imposed this plan on the people, and created a wall in the form of a bureaucracy between them and the beneficiaries of reverse discrimination, so the victims of this injustice could not trace it back to the liberals in Congress, only to the beneficiaries.

There was one major detail that had to be handled: The Reverend was a man of honor and integrity.
His dream was not for reverse discrimination which would cause racial animosity.
He would not sit idly by as the liberals used his good name to pervert his dream and jam reverse discrimination down the throats of the people.

TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, THE LIBERAL DEMOCRATS HAD THE REVEREND DOCTOR MARTIN LUTHER KING JUNIOR ASSASSINATED, SO HE COULD NOT SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE LIBERALS’ PLAN.

Because of this perversion of his dream, over the last forty years, we have had four decades of racial animosity instead of progress toward racial harmony.

Think about it! It all fits! His widow, Coretta King, believed that the government, which consisted of a democrat-controlled House, Senate, and Presidency, caused his death. The Reverend wanted equal opportunity for all: but the democrats killed him, and gave the people Welfare that was like the slavery abolished by President Abraham Lincoln.

The hate-monger democrats blamed the victims, and promised benefits to the Black Americans, and political correctness if they kept them in office. They are doing this now that they are back in the majority.

Once again you want to focus on issues of non-importance.

BTW - no candidate scares me, whoever gets into the position will come and go just like the others before him.

You're probably a person who thinks everyone else should pay for "rights" of others, like healthcare, rather than you working a job that affords you healthcare, or no healthcare and you taking care of your own health and perhaps only holding "emergency" type insurance.

There are lots of options and choices, but no one needs to pay for any of them but the individual. If you can't afford it, you can't have it.

If you want it, get a job and pay for it. That's how it works.

Whatever you have to say, bring it. My position on any issue will always be freedom and choice above all with the foundations of accountability & responsibility of each person.

Yourself and others are under the idea that personal issues rooted in personal agenda are what unite people. They are not. They divide people.

Government politicians would better be employed to seek those issues which ALL AMERICANS are able to understand and desire.

What American doesn't want freedom?

What American doesn't want choice?

Now ask yourself which candidates or even bloggers on this thread want to impose their own narrow point of view onto others.

Freedom is for all.

Choice is for all.

Each person should have the choice to live life as he/she sees fit at no cost to others. This allows our foundational roots in FREEDOM to flourish.

But you go ahead and keep being part of the problem. At some point you'll be left out to pasture as more intellectuals come forth, realize the ideologues who seek to stultify our nation, and take action.

Obama plays race card
Please, Obama! Play the race card. I want Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Cornell West, and other extreme left wing racist separatist nutcases to come out of the woodwork. Fill the TV screens! Hit the airwaves! The more that Americans sees race-mongers moaning, whining, holding hands in public marches, and screaming "racism" into the cameras, the greater the chances that B. Hussein Obama loses. Lose, Obama, lose! I stand by my belief that the GOP nominee will beat Hillary much easier than Oparh's friend. Its all strategy, my friends. Just like the Daily Kos loons screaming for voters to screw up the GOP Michigan primary. Liberals...even the word makes me ill.

C'mon out and play, Al!!!Bring Jesse and Cornell!!!

Gender/age/race
Certainly gender is more important than race. Age should not be forgotten. What I understood was that older women have supported Billary, while younger women support Osama.

I saw that same sad "quiz" and you're correct, it should make us pause in contemplation about the criteria for which people are utilizing in assessing which candidate to vote for this election.

Carlos
I find it interesting that you apparently feel threatened by someone who speaks intelligently.

Typically those that are victims and who enjoy suffering are those that like to see others suffer.

You place your focus on me personally, instead of directly speaking to the issue(s) or the concepts and aspects of personal accountability and responsibility.

You're much like those men/women in Washington. Good for you.

Tampa Dave
You make a great observation about the "race card". Too bad it has to be a strategy and not a genuine level of intellectual development beyond playing racial and political games.

The Folly of Oprah’s Gambit – Part I
I think 2007 will be remembered as the year Oprah's power peaked. She has seriously overplayed her hand by entering partisan politics.

People like to illustrate her power to influence by citing her ability to create instant best selling books merely by recommending a title to her audience. I cite the same scenario as evidence of her political problem.

An author can place a title on the NY Times best selling list with as few as 50,000 in sales. You can make or near #1 with maybe 100,000 in sales. Let’s be generous and assume Oprah’s advice results in a 500,000-copy bestseller (and who knows, maybe some of her recommendations have). Oprah has an audience of roughly 8.5 million people. This means that 94% of her audience chose NOT to take her advice. This may not mean anything when you are recommending books to read, because there is virtually no downside involved for Oprah when 4 or 5 million people DON’T rush out to buy a book on her advice. Her audience will continue to worship her whether or not they don’t buy a book.

To be continued…

The Folly of Oprah’s Gambit – Part II
It doesn’t work the same way in more serious matters such as politics or religion, because people have a way of taking it personally when you speak ill of their choices in politics and religion. As opposed to book recommendations, a recommendation to vote for one candidate is automatically interpreted as a recommendation not to vote for any other candidate. And if Oprah feels so strongly about her candidate, what must she think of those who are considering other candidates? Modern-day politics is so polarizing that to even identify yourself as having a party preference is sufficient to set 40% of the public against you. What must the Hillary and Edwards supporters, much less the Republican supporters in her audience think of Oprah now that she has decided to use her notoriety and influence in such a way? Is it unreasonable to wonder if more than a few in her audience will begin to question whether Oprah is really speaking to them anymore?

Knowing it is inevitable that many will be put off or outright offended by her ham-handed entry into partisan politics, the interesting question is “How many people in her audience will need to be positively influenced by or approving of her choice of candidate in order to offset the alienation that is certain to occur? If you assumed that 80% of her audience is already Democrat and 80% of those were or will become Obama supporters, that still means more than 3 million (35%) of her 8.5 million audience is not going to approve of Oprah for having meddled in their personal interests as they see them.

I think I'm in LOVE!!!!! GREAT COMMENTS! ;o)

Ladyx
It’s interesting that you would endorse people who spew rhetoric, act on their own victimization and display their lack of confidence and insecurity by using insult rather than dialogue.

In observation it can only then be understood that you are a person who has suffered and feels victimized, which drives you to want to align yourself with others you perceive as powerful, when in fact, you and they possess none of the traits of an individual who has strength or individuality. You exude the exact opposite and you’re constantly trying to “feel better” through this empty behavior.

Your time would have been better spent understanding personal accountability and personal responsibility rather than reading the emotional ranting, feigned as political intellectual writing, of your two listed partners in mediocrity.

You'd be better served by controlling your emotions rather than just dumping them on a blog and getting a "hit" of your addiction to victimization - it's quite a jolt of chemical reaction within the body when imbibed in.

It’s unfortunate for you and them that no one in any of your lives along the way educated and showed any of you how to evaluate one’s personal life in order to be a good contributing member of society instead of spreading their disease of fear, lack, and weakness.

Our nation's future of success relies so much on solid intellectual progress that the emotional-unstable individuals of such seem to want to eliminate. It appears that you've signed their petition. Good for you.

Germane to the article

It’s important to understand the exchange on this blog is a microcosm of greater society that wants to entice emotional instability over intellectual understanding. It seeks to distract in order to manipulate and control.

Personal accountability is about taking ownership of your reality; observations of your actions and desires of outcomes.

Being able to respond to these observations that endorse freedom and choice in our democracy is most important, they are the foundations by which ALL AMERICANS and all others are inherently born with.

As a nation, in our desire for freedom and choice, having succeeded and emancipated ourselves, we take on the added responsibility of supporting those that come after us in being able to live free, as well.

Your individual vote is important and knowing which candidate endorses freedom and choice throughout his/her policy is the candidate who desires for ALL AMERICANS to enjoy their lives and not driven toward personal agenda.

Freedom and choice cannot be understood from a candidate who is not accountable and responsible. Don’t be fooled by emotional rhetoric that attempts to “connect” with you, it’s useless. We don’t need a candidate to “connect” with us, we want a candidate who is responsible and accountable and endorses the foundations of our birth – freedom and choice.

We all have “ways” of living our lives that don’t agree with others, asking a candidate to morph him/her self to your specific way of living is ludicrous.

Better that the candidate merely endorses fundamentals that ALL AMERICANS and ALL HUMAN BEINGS can live – freedom to live and choice within that freedom to live.

I guarantee if you apply this formula to all issues you will immediately see who wants your freedom and choice and who wants to control you and other.

And it should be mentioned...
Freedom and choice,responsibility/accountability is built on the concept of "at no cost to others".

Hey "Scooter!"
... I could hardly make it through your pompous blathering! -- the only thing that prevented me from falling asleep was my own laughter, while reading your ATTEMPTS to sound intelligent and "above it all!" I noticed that it took you about five hours after my post to respond with your drivel -- I'm assuming that's how long it took for you to delve through your dictionary and thesaurus, looking up words which you thought would impress and intimidate me. I won't take the time from my day to critique your misspellings and grammatical errors -- that was the job of your elementary-school teachers and your parents -- but if you were trying to impress me, I do want you to know that you HAVE succeeded -- in conveying to me the impression that you are an insecure, self-righteous, self-aggrandizing jackass!

The point is made...
...yours is an emotional response and not one of observation: " I noticed that it took you about five hours after my post to respond with your drivel"

Clearly reading time is not one of your gifts. Unlike you I'm not sitting in front of my computer awaiting response from other bloggers.

And once again, you prove the point that you're want of indulging in emotion rather than addressing the core issues are what are of importance. Just like a liberal to behave as such.

Lastly, apparently my post plucked a string of sting within you of truth, otherwise your anger would not have revealed itself as attempts to insult rooted in your stance in life of victimization and lacking personal responsibility and accountability.

Again, good for you. I'm sure you must be enjoying your life as a result of delegation.

"...and another liberal blogger just took another hit of victimization...congratulate her folks on her continued addiction to emotional instability..."

ex-Wyomingite
Such a coward you are to hide behind a woman - you're weaker than observation revealed previously.

If you were so sure of yourself you'd address the issue of personal accountability and responsibility instead of continuing your emotional tirade.

But, like all liberals, they are and you are, anything but.

Oprah prob. should've preserved
the purity of "non-partisanship" by not going to Iowa, but her choice is perfectly understandable.
Obama must be very appealing to minority voters, altho' decades ago when Shirley Chisholm ran in 1972, she had better credentials, even if her run was prob. early even for Dems. But she was the first black woman in Cong. (of West Indian descent), a 4-term NY assembly woman, and a teacher in early childhood ed.
However, since Bill claims to be the first black pres., maybe Hillary, whose entire assertion of exp. comes from her vicarious knowledge of Bill's, could also claim to be the second black woman running for pres. and make Oprah's mis-choice seem less egotistical but more opportunistic.

Ex-Wyomingite --
...i.e., my "partner in mediocrity" ;o):

I've never watched that movie, but it sounds like a "must-see" to me!

You'll have to excuse me now... I'm heading to the Amazon website to try to find some books which will "educate" me on "personal accountability and responsibility," and on methods to rid myself of my "addiction to victimization," so I can focus on evaluating my personal life, "and become a good, contributing member of society."

What a condescending twit! That has to be the biggest, steamiest pile of horse-pockey I've ever had thrown at me! :o)

I'll be looking forward to reading more of your posts on these boards, Ex-W! -- and a Happy Sunday to you, too!

LadyX
And to think all of this started when I posted that I could understand why blacks supported Obama after he showed electability.

LadyX
You are one terrific breath of fresh air -- and your posts are great reading!

It's amazing to me that you post a one-liner to Ex-Wyomingite and Carlos, and then Scooter posts 6 paragraphs analyzing you. Were you aware, when you posted, that free analysis from strangers is one of the glorious benefits of being a regular reader and commenter here at TH?

So, you "want to align yourself with others you perceive as powerful," do you? And were you aware that "you ... possess none of the traits of an individual who has strength or individuality?" Hmmm, that sure is a lot to tell about a person from a one-liner, eh? I wonder how he did that? Could it be -- a supernatural gift???

Ah, but then, you know what they say about free (and unsolicited, no less) psychoanalysis from an online poster, don't you? You get what you pay for. Don't be a stranger.

Yes, yes, yes
...you seem to go on and on but you dare not address the topic brought to challenge initially yesterday to Vic and others which is that of understanding personal accountability and responsibility, especially when it comes to voting for gender, race, and/or those who attempt to invoke their narrow view of life on ALL AMERICANS.

You must not have anything worth saying or you would have met the challenge at this point.

Arby, you miss the point - the evaluation based on her observed writing is showing the level of irresponsibility and lack of accountability on those particular bloggers part, including her own. They want to be emotional rather than rational and logical.

If, as Vic stated yesterday, that these individuals are representative of Townhall and others like them, then great concern should be had by our nation about the direction for the next 4 years.

These individuals want to engage in liberal yapping and nothing of substance while voting for candidates and not knowing how to evaluate them; "I'm voting for _______ because he/she makes me FEEL good".

If any of them had any substance they would have addressed the subject placed before them, but none have even ATTEMPTED to do so.

Yes Vic
This all came about because of your statement:

"One can not fault blacks for supporting Obama for president."

And when someone challenged your viewpoint and challenged you to rethink your position and hold Blacks accountable for NOT acting with such irresponsibility as to vote for someone who was simply Black or women to vote for someone who is simply female...

...apparently this challenge drew your ire as you came back with an emotional retort and attempted insult rather than addressing the challenge head on, stating through adult dialogue your ideas and being OPEN to rethinking your position.

So, who is "responsible" for the issue drawing emotional response from others - the guy who made the challenge or the one who got emotional and went off on an insult/tirade and couldn't manage his emotions and be open.

Most reasonable intelligent people will see and understand the emotional liberal is the one who went off into distraction. Yes, that would be you, Vic.

Perhaps...
...the aligning with Woody Allen is more understanding of the level of your intellectual disease since we all know the salacious background of a man otherwise considered a borderline personality with borderline pedophile tendencies.

If you wait long enough, slowly the bad news eeks its way out to reveal itself.

Please, by all means, keep blogging to reveal the nature of what you're all about - those reading and not writing, are learning much in the subject.

We all await your pathos as entertainment.

Hey Ladyx
You've been analyzed twice now -- and apparently by someone who is out to compete with Robert.

So, what are you planning to do about that addiction to victimization that you seem to have???

I guess Scooter thinks people are actually reading what he posts. Oops....

I came to this article in the middle portion of this afternoon, Sunday, and I thought it was a pretty interesting article. But you -- as a quick scroll from the top down shows -- came to this article at 8:24 A.M. on Saturday morning. It's now 6:25 P.M. on Sunday and you are still at it -- and you have been commenting on everything and pontificating for 34+ hours. Vic is right -- all because he said made a comment about blacks supporting the election of Obama.

34+ hours -- and I might add, 35 individual comments and counting. Am I the only person who think that is a trifle overdone?

For the record, I don't care what Vic said. He's entitled to his opinion, and I didn't think it was an offensive one or one of concern. I thought he expressed it coherently, even though I may or may not agree with it. You presume that because people don't wish to get into an online sparring match with you that they lack "the ability" and that is quite a presumption. I would guess the reason is a different one.

There is a clinical term for the behavior that you are exhibiting here, and because you are quite the armchair (or keyboard) analyst, I'm sure you know what it is. You might want to think about it as the reason for people being unwilling to engage with you as several here have indicated that they are.

It seems you make many nasty and insulting comments about people you don't know simply because they disagree with you. Your behavior with LadyX, who wasn't even addressing you, should make you ashamed. It was highly disrepectful.

Awwwwwwww......Arby.....

Well, off to work I go... Hey, Scooter! -- you now have 12 MORE hours (plus commute time, which brings it to almost 14) to try to convince everyone -- with no interruptions or retorts from me -- that I'm a poor hapless sop, who is in need of psychotherapy, by a "trained professional".... like yourself.

I think I see where NYCScooter is coming from. He wants logic to rule and everyone to accept responsibility for their choices and actions without exception, starting right this second. He reminds me of Mr. Spock.

I don't mean this in a negative sense, as Mr. Spock was my hero when I was a teenager. I learned a lot from him about how to think and act logically--which has always been very difficult for me as a woman of middle years who has been socialized to react emotionally rather than logically. Mr. Spock is at least partly responsible for my becoming a conservative as opposed to my very liberal parents.

Unfortunately, while we should certainly work to be responsible for our choices and actions, as well as help other people (especially our children) learn how to be responsible, we're still a very young species, and we all too often act like it. There are really very few true adults to model adult behavior on a continuous basis for our children. It has taken seven to ten thousand years just to get to the point where at least a few of us amid the billions of people have recognized that adults accept responsibility for their choices and actions.

While demanding accountability and responsibility may sound like a virtuous way to act, the key word is "demand," which has connotations of coercion. Our only responsibility is for our own choices and actions. None of us has any business "demanding" accountability and responsibility from anyone other than ourselves as individuals.

When the poster above said "blacks couldn't be faulted for voting for Obama," he mainly meant it wasn't really surprising that they did so. Yes, it would be great if each of them would grow up and be accountable, etc. But as asked by another poster, how do you even begin to persuade people suffering from victimitis to grow up when the short term "rewards" for victimhood strike them as far better than the rewards for accountability?

And before you ask, nyscooter, I am happily married and fully employed. I admit that when I feel (physically and/or emotionally) bad, I sometimes give in to self-pity. It's hard to be perfect, after all. But for the most part, I accept Reality and my place in it and I try to treat all others with the respect with which I'd like them to treat me. Is there some reason you're having trouble doing likewise?
