Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

WASHINGTON -- Republican insiders, puzzled by the sudden rise of Mike Huckabee as a serious presidential candidate, are overlooking the role played for him by actor Chuck Norris.

Called "Huckabee's Oprah" in Hollywood, Norris is helping the former governor of Arkansas in much the same way that Oprah Winfrey boosts Sen. Barack Obama's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. Huckabee began his ascent from the depths of the second tier of candidates after his endorsement in late October by Norris, called the "marshal of martial arts."

Norris's endorsement is featured in a Huckabee TV ad, which his money-short campaign has run mainly in Iowa and on the Internet. Norris may be no big deal in New York and Washington, but he is a folk hero with ordinary Iowans and has helped push Huckabee ahead of Mitt Romney in polls forecasting the Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses. The Norris endorsement may be a bigger factor in Iowa than evangelical support for Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister.

PRO-LIFE W?

George W. Bush, who has been repeatedly described by his staff as the "most pro-life president in history," again will miss the annual anti-abortion March for Life in Washington Jan. 22 and instead make a live phone call to participants.

This time, President Bush will be in the Middle East the day of the march. He has called the pro-life demonstrators from Manhattan, Kan., from Camp David and from Roswell, N.M., in recent years. That the president usually ends up out of Washington is annoying to thousands of pro-life activists who take buses to the nation's capital.

"President Bush is the most pro-life president in history," was one of the talking points sent out by Bush headquarters during the 2004 campaign. Tim Goeglein, the White House liaison with religious groups, has said: "George W. Bush is the most pro-life president in American history."

BOXER'S REVENGE

Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, a personal friend and political ally of the Clintons, is behind a nearly year-long blocking of California Superior Court Judge Jim Rogan for a federal judgeship because he was one of the 13 House impeachment managers of President Bill Clinton.

President Bush in January nominated Rogan as a district judge in Los Angeles. Ordinarily, district court nominees do not experience the confirmation difficulties of an appellate judge. Boxer has prevented Senate action on Rogan, informing this column he is not in the "mainstream."

A former Democrat, Rogan served two terms in Congress representing a heavily Democratic Southern California district but was defeated for re-election in 2000. He was named as a Superior Court judge in 2006 by California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

RAHM'S REPUBLICANS

Rep. Rahm Emanuel, chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, won private praise Wednesday from several conservative Republican senators when he launched an attack on Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

Emanuel attacked McConnell's plan to keep federal spending at President Bush's recommended level but find room for individual earmarks by cutting everything across the board. Emanuel said McConnell is "fighting for earmarks over funding for cancer cures, the veterans' health care crisis and 50,000 new American teachers." He charged that McConnell's "own re-election campaign would come first."

That is precisely what anti-earmark Republicans have been saying in private but do not want to say publicly for the sake of party unity.

THOMPSON'S CONSERVATIVE

The endorsement of Fred Thompson's presidential candidacy by Morton Blackwell, longtime Republican National committeeman from Virginia and a prominent conservative activist, was announced Tuesday a silent month after it was made.

Blackwell's support had been sought by Thompson. After due consideration, Blackwell decided Thompson was the best conservative who could be nominated. He so informed the Thompson campaign of his decision but then heard nothing until Tuesday's announcement.

The intervening month was a time when Thompson could have benefited from good news. Several Republicans trying to help Thompson have found their overtures rebuffed.

You're kidding, right?
Chuck who??

Listen, Huck would've done better with David Hasselhoff in regard to credibility. The only reason the Huckster is polling better than the others is that HIS lurid background is only just now catching up to him. Rudy's crashing and burning, and rightfully so, Mitt's flipped on a few too many issues and proceeded to flop as the snake oil salesman, and Thompson's never fully arrived at the party - he's a big snore as it turns out. So Huck was the final Hope for the Pious at Heart - only now it would seem Huck's a huckster. Too bad, because he looks like my dad (but not nearly as nice, nor as Christian).

The Tough Guy Vote
Mitt Romney should announce that he's got the support of all the other 80's tough guys:

Sly Stallone
Hulk Hogan
Mr. T
Clint Eastwood, etc.

Honestly, if who Oprah or Churck Norris is voting for affects who you vote for - you are an ignoramous. Who knew there were this many idiots in America.

Look out America!
One might also say that Oprah is Obama's Norris. But there is no comparision - Oprah is in it for herself, I think she fancies herself as some sort of history making influencer. Norris OTOH is supporting Huckabee not because Huckabee might make Norris bigger or more influential, but because Norris truly believes that Huckabee is the best man for America.

But all that aside, Huckabee's rise resulted directly from his speech at the Values Voter Convention, and his appearance on the Glenn Beck Show. Add to that his strong performances at the debates and videos of those were heavily promoted at the grass roots level over the internet via youtube. Huckabee was already surging in Iowa and the other early states because of his old-fashioned on the ground campaigning meet and greets - when people meet and/or see and hear him they like him.

Norris did do a tremendous job of assisting Huckabee with getting some name recognition among average folks who tend not to pay much attention to politics - so his first couple commercials were outstanding marketing successes that helped to create additional buzz/attention, but the bottom line is that Huckabee's authentic character, his leadership experience, and his positive message are really motivating his support, not his endorsers. Obama may have Oprah, but Huckabee has Chuck Norris AND Ed Rollins. Look out America!

huck will destroy hussein obama
remember 20% of tlib democrats who pretend to be so tolerant have been proven to lie(according to frank luntz and william schnieder) when they tell pollsters they will vote for a black candidate.

Hillary is done, and the dems are too stupid to nominate edwards who outpolls all repubs.

Hussein Obbama is unelectable-even romney could beat him-in fact anyone clothed and in their right mind (which eliminates ron paul)can beat obama.

am I the only one....
Who sees Mr.Huckabee as the Republicans version of Jimmah Carter?I'm probably way off base here, but it scares the heck out of me......

Guess I'm...
A day late and dollar short....Just viewed Ann Coulters Fox interview.....glad to see that's out there....

@Bunky
Carter and Huckabee alike?

1. Huckabee pro- Iraq war
1a. Carter anti-all war

2. Huckabee pro-life
2a. Carter pro-choice

3. Huckabee pro-death penalty
3a. Carter anti-death penalty

4. Huckabee anti-gun control.
4.b Carter pro gun control

5. Huckabee anti gay rights
5a. Carter pro gay rights

6. Huckabee pro fair tax, anti irs
6a. Carter: pro progressive income tax, and pro irs

7. Huckabee conservative republican
7a. Carter liberal democrat

8 Huckabee supports fencing the borders.
8b Carter against a border fence

9 Huckabee supports troops
9a Carter doesnt support troops

slick mitt's supporters, like mitt himself, will say absolutely anything with no regard whatsoever for whether it’s true or not

But it’s going to backfire badly when he begins his last ditch ad campaign in Iowa.

But what mitt sows he shall reap in spades.
He is deteriorating in Iowa, and is now totally desperate-and that’s when he is most likely to shoot himself while aiming at others.

Face it. Huckabee wins the Nomination!
The Shift in Momentum IS FOR PRESIDENT HUCKABEE in 2008

Mike Huckabee is presidential material and is alone able to defeat Hillary & Obama. I am now convinced that those wealthier donors to Romney's, Giuliani's, and Thompson's campaign have wasted their money and if they continue, are wasting their hard earned money on candidates who do not have voter appeal or substance. As a member of the younger generation, I will tell you point blank, Romney, Giuliani, and Thompson DO NOT connect with us.

ROMENY has run out of gas. He has been the worst investment money could buy. His persecution complex make him so defensive that he cracks under pressure. BOTH Romney's and Giuliani's flop flip past makes them a liability and not an asset for republicans in 2008.

Every time Huckabee is heard his approval amongst Republicans and Democrats increases even WITHOUT major financial support. Just imagine what would happen if he got the major financial support. He is the Republican's secret weapon in the 2008 election. Huckabee's proven leadership can help bring America together as a team.

Novak just doesn't get it
Novak: "Republican insiders, puzzled by the sudden rise of Mike Huckabee as a serious presidential candidate"

Yes, REPUBLICAN INSIDERS, who Novak represents are puzzled. Miracles are hard to believe aren't they?

But, THE PEOPLE aren't puzzled at all, Bob. We've got it figures out. We've listened to Mike Huckabee and read his position papers.

We see how the "Republican insiders" are distorting his record and his positions. He scares you. He inspires us. And, we're all Republicans! We're all conservatives! How very strange that must seem to you and the Grand OLD Party.

Just relax, Bob. Everything will be OK. Four years from now, you'll start to catch on :-)

Why Huckabee wins the Nomination!

Huckabee is the candidate because he can not only attract republicans but also democrats to his side without compromising his principles. Both side support is needed to win this election in 2008.

The "Norris endorsement"
The "Norris endorsement" - I can't type that with a straight face.

Contrary to Internet lore though, Chuck's special powers will probably gain Huck about 42 extra votes, which I guess is "in much the same way" that Oprah's recommendation will be helping Obama - I can't type that with a straight face either.

Chuck!
He's really good for teens! I love Chuck- there's a great Chuck Norris poster hanging in my office. As for Mike Huckabee; nice guy, but is not going to win .

Norris
Norris is a regular columnist at World Net Daily. His articles reflect a strong belief in personal values and Christian faith and therefore he'd be attracted to and taken in by the message of a preacher/politician con artist which is what the Huckster is.

Norris ignores the bigger picture of what the Huckster actually did as Governor of Arkansas where he raised taxes, undermined conservatives and otherwise governed like a liberal democrat. In his endorsement, Chuck has ignored the first rule of politics: listen not to what they say but examine what they did.

Another chautauqua tent pop messiah from Hope, Arkansas is just what we don't need. I may be a Norris fan but I'm real disappointed that he picked this phony to put his reputation behind.

old saying proven by Paul Money Raising
Rep Paul will raise a lot of money soon. This proves an old saying "A fool and his money are soon parted"

Of Course IF Gov Huckabee wins with his big Gov ways and his record of raising taxes the same could be said for the rest of us.

cheap shot - violates 11th commandment
"United we stand, divided we fall"

This cheap shot by Novak is the kind of thing which can lose elections. This breaks Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandment, to not criticize another Republican. In fact this is exactly what Reagan wanted to avoid, the East Coast Republicans & (Mid)West / Southern Republicans personally attacking each other.

Novak A Bit Out Of Touch?...
Oprah is the absolute A Lister of ALL A listers!

Chuk Norris is a has been, celebrity nobody who never got any further than being a C List celebrity in the first place.

Furthermore. The demographic Norris appeals to is already voting GOP anyway. Norris aint gonna bring any indie voters to Huck. Norris, like Huck himself, has a small, niche audience, as opposed to O's mainstream appeal.

Novak. Please don't go work for the E network. You are painfully out of touch with pop culture and celebrity.

As I recall, they tried doing that to Dubya, who was far less articulate. It didn't work. The media would much rather have Giuliani as the nominee. What scares them is not someone who utters socially conservative platitutdes. What scares them is someone who utters such platitudes *and means it.* (Take a look at his support of covenant marriages for instance)

Huckster and Boxster
"Called "Huckabee's Oprah" in Hollywood"

I work in the film industry and live in the Hollywood film community. Chuck Norris is called a joke and a has-been if he's thought of at all. He surely doesnt have the pull of an Oprah, even in the rural outback. Huckabee's surge is due to the fact that he is the only vocal champion of those who count the 'social conservative' issues as the most important.

The Junior Senator from my home state (California) is blocking a decent judicial nominee out of spite for the Clinton Impeachment,eh? When are the Repulicans going to figure out how vulnerable that screeching hag is and run a properly funded, moderately conservative candidate against her and take back a seat in the Senate that should be ours. She's wrong on immigration, taxes, national defense and the judiciary. If the Reps would stop running Neanderthal social issue zealots and pick people a little more in tune with the majority of the voters we could be rid of this Marxist harridan for good.

We need Huckabee. Wake up people.
If you want a president that will be pro-life and stand up for you against the oppression of the militant homosexual agenda to force their sexuality in your face then you have three choices for President. It is either Huckabee, Tancredo, or Hunter. Thats it folks. There may be others that are somewhat conservative, but none of them other than the three I listed see the militant homosexual agenda as an important issue, and none of them support a marriage amendment. Because of the alliance of liberal democrats and liberal or moderate republicans, California starting in January will now have gender based off of feelings, rather than biology. This means your children are going to live in a world where boys will be on the girls basket ball them, be a cheerleader(in the girls uniform) and be homecoming queen. And that is not all. Starting at that same time, children will not longer be able to refer to their parents as mother and father. That is simply too offensive. And don't think that this is the end of the line. It will go futher and futher. There has already been gay marriage legalized in America in the Northeast. Which has grown and expanded to New Jersey and is still spreading. So if you continue to speak against Huckabee, just remember that you must be a very pro-homosexual person, as well as someone who doesn't care so much about the abortion issue. I am telling you that if you do not acknowledge that these issues are the most important issues we face today, then just give it some time. More and more you will begin to see.

Jimma
Does anybody else remember when Jimma Carter, the "father of the Iranian revolution", was wet with anticipation over Ronald Reagan winning the GOP nomination?

I heard
Screech, Alf and Ricky Schroeder are endorsing Huck as well, look for a huge swell in the polls! hahahaha This Huck thing is the height of idiocy, I'll be glad when he crashes and burns in a couple weeks.

Romney, Thompson, McCain and Paul.
What do they all have in commen? They are all activists for the militant homosexual agenda. Just check their comments and voting record.

So if you think that gender being based off of feelings for kids in school, kids prohibited from refering to parents as mother and father, and the forced acknowledgement of gay marriage is a great and progressive and wonderful thing then these guys are your man.

If you would like to prevent this and much worse from being forced on you and future generations then your choices are Huckabee, Tancredo or Hunter.

ex-Wyomingite/ Right on
ex-Wyomingite you hit the nail on the head.

One huge fact that the MSM overlooks in its zeal to protect the Clintons is that Arkansas has been virtually taken over by organized crime. Bill was clearly captured. Once Huckabee is annoited top tier status he will be revealed as yet another compromised hypocrite in the tradition of Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker and Senator Larry Craig.

What the Sheeples can't seem to understand is that as these "Christian" hypocrites manifest their immorality, organized crime is waiting in the wings with cameras and tape recorders (now digital of course) to make their silly sexual escapades immortal. Once these twits are captured on tape these office holders and candidates are owned. Their owners then proceed to protect their new property from critics and challengers.

Check out the history of Arkansas starting from the time Bill became Attorney General. In Arkansas is highly unlikely that any candidate who is not owned could ever win an election more important than School Board.

Huckabee the strongest cannidate.
All of these fools who are saying that the MSM wants Huckabee to win because he would be the weakest cannidate are either utterly against any cannidate other than their own, or they are people who do not think for themselves and they let the MSM think for them. It is your fake conservatives that have been saying this. Wake up people.

Think people. Please think.

They are the same people who have been saying that Huckabee would not win anything, then when he was doing well in Iowa they said that he may seem to be doing good but he has no chance of winning, then when his chances got a lot better and he became strongly favored they said that he would win nothing but Iowa if he did when, and Huckabee keeps proving them wrong.

Think People. Please think.

If a cannidate can overcome the odds and can do that well, then don't you think that such a cannidate is the strongest cannidate? Ofcourse he is.

ex-Wyomingite.
You proved my point. You apparently think that the militant homosexual agenda of forcing themselves on the public is a progressive and wonderful thing. I hope your children enjoy growing up in a world that has boys on the girl basket ball team, and a boy homecoming queen. If fools like you get your way anyways. And rest assured it will get much worse than that.

As far as your comments against me, I'm actually quite sober and these are things that are happening rather if you are paying attention or not.

Please wise up.

I'm convinced that...
The only reason people can support Huckabee in the G.O.P. is religion. It can't be economic or foreign policy issues.

He increased spending from 6 to 16 billion.

He increased the tax burden in Arkansas by 47%.

He supports scholarships for illegal immigrants.

He speaks class warfare like John Edwards.

He gave out 1033 pardons and commutations including 12 murderers.

He talks about "reaching out" just like a liberal when it comes to foreign policy. What's more important Huckabee? Keeping America safe or pleasing the rest of the world.

He supported lifting the embargo on Cuba.

The guy is a disaster and his record is HORRID!!

Local control
Republicans have always favored local control of schools, including things like homecoming and cheerleading. Hopefully all Republican candidates including Huckabee will continue to allow cities and states to run their schools without interference from Washington DC.

I'm convinced that...
The only reason people don't support Huckabee in the G.O.P cannidate is religion. Well atleast judging from so many peoples comments against him saying that they do not want a minister or someone who quotes the Bible to be President. Most of these other accusations against Huckabee are not true and they know it, but yet they still keep saying them, just because they do not like him.

If you hate someone for being Christian and believing in the Bible, then that is your choice, but what I really don't get is why these people are claiming to be conservative. The far leftists agenda is much more close to their views.

Scrooge.
I saw a Christmas Carol play the other day, and the story of Scrooge kind of made me think of the way that so many of the fake conservatives are talking and acting. They have abandoned the noble pro-life cause, they have gone soft on the issues of the family and pro-family causes, and it seems they have been taking up a greed is good mentality.

I hope and pray that they turn their lives around like Scrooge did in a Christmas Carol.

No More Ex-Ark Govs
TN- take your Thorazine and behave yourself.

The 'social conservative' issues are a sure way to lose every independent and moderate swing voter in the country. A fifty-state landslide for the Dems. The last thing people want is the Federal Government dictating what they can watch on TV, forcing their daughters to abandon any career plans so they can give birth to a baby fathered by some long-gone creep, or teaching creationist mythology in science classes. They would rather put up with all the Democrat's idiocy than have a bunch of zealots interfere with 'Gray's Anatony' or 'Dancing With The Stars'. The social conservatives can only advance their agenda in coalition with the other elements of the Republican Party-- who will desert Huckster-Bee in droves if he is the nominee. I will never vote for an ex-governor of Arkansas even though I have never voted for a Democrat.

skep41
They have a name for the people you are calling independents and moderates. It called a liberal democrat, and they already have a party to vote for, so they will not be voting GOP regardless.

TN You're Wrong
Ronald Reagan won two landslides because the people you think are Democrats saw that he had their best interests at heart. The social issues are electoral poison. People dont want to give government that kind of power. They do agree that taxes should be lower, government should be smaller and defense should be stronger. They agree that the courts should not write law (which makes Roe vs, Wade unconstitutional). That's how we win. There is no merit in losing elections by excluding your potential allies. The California Republican Party has been doing that for a decade and is now almost extinct.

What would Huckabee do differently?
What would Huckabee do differently from President Bush or any of his opponents? The answer is "not much because there isn't anything he could do".

The reality is that the President has very little power over social issues. The President appoints judges, can veto spending legislation, and has input on military policy. President Bush is already a social conservative on all of those.

Would Hucakbee try to take control of all the textbooks from Washington DC like Hillary wants to? If so, he would need the approval of Congress. He would not get Republican support because Republicans want parents to be in charge of their children's textbooks, not Washington DC.

Chuckabee?
Still just a big government CINO/RINO. No vote from me. No way, no how.

Wu Wei
What Huckabee would or would not do if elected beggars the question, which is can he be elected? The answer is no. He's too liberal for the neocons and business Republicans and he's too militantly religious for the vast center of swing voters. The attitude of TNboy, that the center are irredeemable sinners best left to the Democrats, is a sign of what would happen in a general election.

Carlos Ray "Chuck" Norris supports Huck?
I wonder how much government will be enough for Huck. He wants to put Internet poker players in jail, yet pardons convicted rapists!!

If Tax Hike Mike wins....
will we have to press "2" for English instead of "1"?

Hey sam,
Such a mouth on you. Easy to see that you're a lib just by the immediate resorting to name calling and personal attacks. I do believe hill and bill could use you. You're just the type they like.
Do you eat with that nasty mouth??

Yes, I agree - Norris isn't the name he once was and his fan base isn't massive but it's still pretty loyal. But it can also be said that celebrity endorsements, in general, don't go that far anymore, particularly since information dissemination decentralized via the internet. Can you imagine someone voting on a Stallone recommendation?

You are a conservative in the film industry? My take is that, the conservatives have to hide their views - otherwise, H-W has its own way of blacklisting you. If you're a lib, you can yap your nonsense all you want.

For that matter, there's blacklisting going on everywhere, in all kinds of organizations. And the fascist libs aren't fair or tolerant of these people, with careers being destroyed everyday by them.
_______
TNBoy strike me as a leftist plant disseminating misinformation - no one on the right could be as stupid as he is.

Huck and Chuck
Unfortunately don't understand irony.

Yes, Chuck Norris is something of an Internet icon, invoked constantly by all sorts net denizens as the ultimate bada$$. Yet what Norris clearly doesn't understand is how ironic most of the references to him are. Not surprising, considering how few Americans even understand the meaning of ironic.

The fact is, Norris and his movies are pretty cheesy, so invoking him as the ultimate bada$$ is largely a joke. Norris has made comments on several occasions that show that he severely misunderstands his real standing with people.

Boomers don't comprehend Xer humor. You old folks just don't get it.

Grubby
Yes, I am a conservative in the film biz and I keep it very quiet. TH is where I go to rant. I have actually lost jobs because of my views. The funny thing is, because I'm not gung-ho on the social issues I'm not really kosher with most of the people on TH. But in the end if you can observe that the Laffer Curve is true (raising tax rates lowers revenues), you can see the damage that handout programs do to society, can observe that the liberal foreign policy of negotiating with homicidal maniacs leads to mass murder and war, see the shaky, inaccurate data behind the idea that human activities cause Global warming and that its just being used as an excuse to implement discredited social planning theories and all the rest of the hogwash pushed by the People Who Care than you have no choice but to be a conservative. It was what I observed as a hippie and radical in the 60's that set me on my path.

Novak gets it
Robert Novak doesn't really believe that Chuck Norris "has helped push Huckabee ahead of Mitt Romney". Saying so is Novak's way of insulting Huckabee's supporters, and his sarcastic response to people who say that Huckabee's surge came from something besides "evangelical support".

This seems pretty clear. It would be insulting to say to someone on the internet, "You only support so-and-so for President because a movie star supports him". Yet if Novak is serious, that's what he did to a large part of his own political party. If Novak thought Norris could really single-handedly decide a presidential election, then he'd write a lot more than one paragraph about it.

TNboy has a mental disorder.
Every comment TNboy makes is filled with a sense of panic over gays. He's ever so filled with great fret that the "militant homosexual agenda" (a mythological creature created by conservative media) is coming to get him with pitch forks and torches.

He then gives as proof of his made up gay conspiracy theory, examples of stupid, silly things like boys being homecoming queens and vice versa as examples of THE WORST possible things that could happen in this world. His posts are filled with absolute pannick that girls and boys might play on the same basketball team! Oh my! Say it ain't so TNboy.

Violent crime? Unafordable Health Care? Unafordable Prescription Medicine? Poisonous Food and Goods from China? Our enormous trade imbalance with a Communist country? Social Security? Rising energy costs? Illegal Immigration? Rising rates of obesity and diabetes?

Pshaw! TNboy says Pshaw to all of these things and more!

TNboy would like to direct everyones attention to the real threat to everyones life. GAYS! It's the gays people! Come On! The gays are comin' outta their closets! Call out the national guard!

TNboy would like to remind everyone that out and proud gays are the greatest threat to the people of this nation. Lock your doors! Lock your doors! The gays are coming! They might break in and redecorate the place, throw away half your wardrobe, and replace your drug store toiletries with salon brands! YIKES!..........

budbud
Lock your doors! Lock your doors! The gays are coming! They might break in and redecorate the place, throw away half your wardrobe, and replace your drug store toiletries with salon brands! YIKES!..........

Wait a minute. They're going to redecorate my house? Do I have to pay for the paint? And they're not throwing out my t-shirts, I have enough trouble keeping my wife from doing that (hey, maybe she's ONE OF THEM. She is glued to HGTV all the time...).
You think my old lady's buying toiletries at Costco?
I just use what's there. This homosexual agenda stuff is confusing.

Huckabee will win the nomination.
You are underestimating the Christian population which is the vast majority.

Huckabee's rise is because of evangelical Christians and the important thing to remember is right now he only has PART of the support of the evangelicals. Now that he is a leading candidate and has a chance all of the rest of the evangelicals will switch from Giuliani and Romney and Thompson to Huckabee and he will win the nomination...better keep all of your insults to yourselves.

Hagar: You could be right!

I just don't know at this point. Still too far out.

But, I'm willing to concede that you could very well be right about this....

Skep41. I know how you feel.

This homosexual agenda stuff is confusing

I know. It is very...confusing. You'll have to ask a straight, homophobic social conservative what's on it, as they invented it.

As a gay man myself, I have yet to recieve my copy. To my knowledge, none of my gay friends have recieved their copy yet either. Strangely, all the people who would never associate with gays seem to have the only copies of this agenda. I often choke on my bottled water when I hear right wingers claim YET ANOTHER thing suposedly on "the gay agenda". I think to myself...really, I didn't know I was supporting, seeking that!?

Just remember. It was only people like Henry Ford and Hitler who had copies of the alleged "Jewish Agenda", otherwise known as The Protocalls of Zion. Turns out, there wasn't a single Jew involved in its creation. I suspect this "gay agenda" is something similar.

budbud
I live in LA. Straight homophobic conservatives are a little out of step with the community ethic around here and keep a pretty low profile. People around here are Huckster-phobic. He plays right into their stereotype of the RedNeck Right Winger. We cant win with that image. The funny thing is that people who get the majority of their political news from The Daily Show and think that they're leftists sometimes arent. The reaction to the immigration bill was amazing. Also, when you are making a six-figure income the Tax The Rich slogans are a little hard to chant. Schools are an issue. If the Republicans had some candidates in this state that would drop the social agenda and address themselves to people's lives this would be a Red state again. I think this state would be in play with Thompson or Giuliani.

budbud. We are not that stupid. Sorry.
Just because your gay and not supposedly a part of the homosexual militant agenda doesn't mean that there isn't one. Come on man. How stupid do you think people are? You are trying to say that there is no militant homosexual agenda.

Who is passing all of this pro-homosexual agenda laws? Did ENDA never happen or was never attempted? Has there never been an attempt to add hate speech and hate crime laws to bills? And just wait until January when in California gender will be based off of feelings, and kids can no longer refer to their parents as mother and father.

I know, you are probably trying to progress your agenda and one of the best ways to keep people from trying to prevent it is to deny anything is happening. It is either that or you just have no idea of what is going on today.

skep41
I am sorry but it is you who are wrong. I know that you will argue and argue, but you are simply wrong. People who are pro-choice, pro-gay agenda, anti-family and against most of the social conservatives values already have a party and that is the liberal democrat party. Are you trying to tell me that these people voted for Bush in 2004?

Your comment about not voting for someone just because they are from a certain state reflects the fact that you are just a bigot and probably an unhappy leftist.

The people are coming out and speaking, and what they are saying is that they do not want a GOP cannidate that is not a social conservative.

What's wrong with this?
TNboy. I don't deny the existance of ENDA at all. What I deny is the conservative allegations that ENDA is part of some diabolical scheme by gays to control the world.

All the Employment Non Discrimination Act does is protect gays and lesbians from losing their jobs simply because they are gay. In 38 states it is perfectly LEGAL to fire someone or non promote someone, or pay someone less JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE GAY. Do you support this? You don't find this unjust?

About ten years ago, when we first met,my partner was a fireman for the state. He had been a fireman for TEN years. When the house found out he was gay, he was demoted, his office was moved to what was LITERALLY a closet. Really, it was a closet! They were trying to make a "get back in the closet" statement. On top of that, anonymous various firemen left obscene, insulting, harrassive messages on his desk every single day. That was on top of the obscene and violent things some would say right to his face.

We went to FIVE lawyers, one of them gay. They ALL told us we had NO legal leg to stand on since sexual orientation is NOT a protected class in my state! There was NOTHING he/we could do. His boss could actually put it in writing...I am firing you because you are a F*G, and he still wouldn't be able to do a thing about it!

Do you find this treatment acceptable or fair in the least? This is the case in MOST states! All ENDA did was try to remedy this injustice everywhere with a comprehensive federal bill, like the ones that protect all the other minorities.

Do you not think gays are discriminated against? Oh. By the way, at my urging, he quit, went back to school, and now makes three times the money he made as a fireman working much better hours in an administrative capacity. The icing on the cake is that the state just consolidated a bunch of services and got rid of that department. All his fellow fireman lost their jobs. Karma I guess.

TNboy
I'm saying that a lot of people that didnt want the terrorists to win the War On Terror, didnt want their taxes raised, are upset that courts are passing laws without being elected to do so, are worried about the government mismanagement and failure voted for Bush. Not caring about some 'homosexual agenda' or whether abortion is legal or not doesnt make somebody a Democrat. In day to day governance those issues have very little importance. There is a conservative side to taxation and defense and a liberal side. Lets not drive people away by being extreme on issues that dont matter to most people. In California adding a constitutinal amendment making abortion legal got over 70% of the vote. Bringing that issue to the front burner means that you lose and not only does abortion stay legal your taxes are raised. Does that make sense?

Just Because...
TNboy, unlike you assumed, I do indeed support all of the things you consider part of the "militant homosexual agenda". I just don't consider wanting to not lose your job for NON JOB related reasons a "militant" or "radical" thing to desire.

What you call "militant", I call mainstream or common sense. What you call "pro homosexual", I call "pro fairness" or just "fair".

Remember. ENDA doesn't work ONE WAY. ENDA would protect straights from job discrimination by their gay employers, managers and bosses too, just like laws against racism don't just protect blacks from white discrimination.

Would you like to lose the job of your dreams because the guy or gal in charge is a homo with a chip on their shoulder and an axe to grind against straights? I guess you'd be o.k. with that since you obviously think it's good for people to be discrimated against because of their sexual orientation.

You seem to think that laws in favor of equal treatment, or as you call them, "pro homosexual" laws are by default "anti-heterosexual". This is not a zero sum game. You shouldn't be thinking in these "it's us against them" terms. Remember, most of the people gays have as friends and family are straights, so you really shouldn't take this attitude that gays are out to take something from or get one up on straights.

Your paranoia is completely unfounded.

walker texas ranger endorsement
You people realize you look like idiots to 92% of the nation . . . don't you?

budbud.
To answer your question, no I do not support ENDA, because I don't think that people should have to hire people they don't want to.

I don't want to work for someone who does not want me working for them. That doesn't sound like a very good thing to me.

There are plenty of places that do hire homosexuals and most every time I've seen a homosexual working somewhere or have worked with them, they have been managers or bosses of some sort.

Much of the homosexual agenda tried to get ENDA rights expanded to cross dressers. So if you got a man in womens clothing, and makeup and all that, then you can't do anything about it.

I think that employers should be able to decide who they hire or not. If someone refused to hire me because I'm conservative I might not like that place of business, but I would be happy not to work with them anyways. I probably would buy from them either. Basically the ideas of a free society.

Ironically?
Skep41 writes:

I couldn't agree more. Many truly traditional conservatives might argue that passing laws banning abortion and gay marriage are the EXACT OPPOSITE of what the GOP traditionally has said it stands for. The GOP used to be the party of LESS GOVERNMENT and the party that wanted GOVERNMENT OUT OF PEOPLES LIVES. A party that supports telling consenting adults who they can marry and what elective medical procedures they can have on their own bodies (abortion, euthanasia) is not a party that TRULY believes in getting government out of the peoples lives.

The Christian right side of the GOP wants government all involved in the absolute most private aspects of peoples lives!....

Traditional conservatives would never have come up with such ridiculous notions as "family values", faith based initiatives (giving public tax dollars to churches) etc., as traditional conservatives would never suggest that it was governments job to promote a certain set of "values" or give tax dollars to churches.

Traditional Republicans have always supported abortion rights and have never been hostile to gays. I'm talking "Traditional" conservatives, NOT the Southern Redneck Biblecrats who have taken over the GOP and given conservatism a completely different definition.

skep41
The majority of the people in California are not exactly the same as most of middle America. What I am saying is that just because California has a majority of people who think a certain way does not mean that the rest of America does. There is a world outside of California where there is a majority of conservatives.

And even the left coast has a pretty good amount of conservatives though they may not be in the majority. Just imagen how it is in the rest of America.

If you think that most people despise the social conservatives views and only want to be conservative for the sake of money for themselves and defense for themselves, then why have so many states passed marriage amendments? And as far as your thing about abortion, there are many states where it would be banned, as the pro-life movement actually has gotten pretty big and the pro-life movement has grown over the years and continues to grow with time.

One wonders where Mike Huckabee
would be without the dazzling star power Chuck Norris brings to his campaign. Could it be he'd be right where he is now, going nowhere? Novak should be embarrassed to write such tripe.

Should that extend to everything?
TNboy writes:
I don't think that people should have to hire people they don't want to

So...you think people should have their job options limited because of some interviewers prejudice about something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH THE JOB? So...if you were the worlds best engineer and I was advertising a job for an engineer paying a million dollars a day plus benefits, I should be able to NOT hire you becuase you're...a Christian?

Oh, that's right, we have laws protecting you against such discrimination. We have laws that protect people at work from religious discrimination, even Christians. Are you against these too. Are you against laws that protect women from being discriminated against by men and vice versa. Are you against laws that protect racial and ethnic minorities from being unfairly denied a job, housing, or credit due to their race or ethnicity?

Are you pro discrimination?

If you are, I sincerely hope that one day you realy, desperately need a job and you find a positon that you are immensely qualified for. I hope when you get there, the person doing the hiring is a black, gay, jew. I hope they make it very clear that they wont even CONSIDER YOU becuase YOU are a white, straight, Christian.

Let me know how it feels, o.k. There's a little thing called Karma. Be carefull what you wish for. It would be poetic justice that YOU came back as a black, gay, jew, in a world of TNboys.

budbud, again.
Its not about being hostle to gays. The gays have been hostle to americans who disagree. They want to make it legally impossible to disagree.

Just look at the ACLU.

When people are attacked they basically have the choice of either having their rights taken away and being walked all over, or they can try to stick up for themselves. That is what the social conservatives are doing, sticking up for themselves.

You bash the conservatives and say that they are trying to put government in peoples lives and expand government, right after you talk about how much you support ENDA.

Thats ok, you support what you want. But I also have the right to say that I disagree.

TNboy. Not very informed.
TNboy. I know Social cons like yourself hate that the states with the largest populations are very liberal on social issues, but numbers matter. There are easily more liberals in ONE CITY in California than there are citizens of ALL stripes in TN! Same goes for New York.

N.Y, CA., NJ, MA aren't just any other states. They are places where MASSIVE AMOUNTS of citizens reside. MASSIVE AMOUNTS. How many people live in conservative places like Montana, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Nebraska? They have more cows than people in most of those states! Land doesn't matter. Land doesn't vote, people do.

Furthermore. Most Americans support abortion and anti abortion measures have failed in even conservative leaning states. Secondly. Arizona voters rejected a gay marriage ban just this year.

Last time I checked, Arizona wasn't considered a conservative state. The majority in N.J. Supports gay marriage and a majority in MOST states supports some kind of legal recognition, as long as it's not called marriage. The "majority" is much more moderate and tolerant than you would like to paint them.

If you want majority rule, please support getting rid of the electoral college. Do this and ALL the libs in CA,MA,N.Y.,N.J., would have a reason to get out and vote.

The opinions of conservatives in middle America would become completely irrelevant overnight. Why do you think it's always the two bit conservative states who oppose getting rid of the electoral college? They wouldn't matter any more. Los Angeles, N.Y.C., Chicago, Boston, Miami, Newark would decide EVERY single presidential election. Densely populated, urban and liberal.

You Didn't Answer.
You didn't answer the question TNboy.

Should someone be able to openly not hire YOU JUST because you are Christian?

McCain "least bad"?
Interesting that the Boston Globe and the Des Moines Register have just endorsed McCain. Given the problems of all the Republican front runners, I kind of suspect he'll come out on top as the "least bad" choice.

budbud yet again.
Yes, I think that organizations should not be forced to hire anyone.

Did you not hear when I said I wouldn't want to work for such a place. I would be happy to find out there position and would not buy anything from them again unless they changed their position.

Basically the ideas of a free society.

For your information I have worked for a place that did not like me for some reason, and this place was run by very progressive people. They told me it wasn't working and I said ok, and was actually happy not to work there. I'm not going to buy from them either. I might even tell others not to buy from them.

Again basically the ideas of a free society.

This is America and there are lots of oppertunity for people. And the people have the ability to not buy or boycott these businesses and take their business elsewhere if they disagree with anything that is done by them.

I'm sorry if you have so much anger about this issue, but I just don't think that anywhere should have to hire anyone. Should the NAACP have to hire a skinhead? Should an organization for native americans have to hire someone who is against their causes?

I once for a counseling class voluteenered for an abused womens selter. They didn't have much of anything they could let me do, because I was a man and the people they are trying to help would be troubled by a man. I understood. I didn't get mad.

Wu Wei - its the president,
senate leader and the leader in the house - if conservatives think a Romney, Reid and Palosi ticket will implement a conservative agenda - then Romney should be nominated BUT most conservatives know that this group of leaders would be hostile to implementing ALL CONSERVATIVE ISSUES and expand our role in the UN and make america the united states of europe.

Ron Paul TNboy?
I just remembered. Ron Paul is against all laws that protect against discrimination. He even wants to get rid of the 64 Civil Rights Act!

As you can see TNboy...such ideas are percieved to be "on the fringe" to most people, as Ron Paul is seen as a fringe candidate. Do you see ANY legitimate candidate in ANY party supporting the repeal of ALL anti discrimination laws? No, because it's lunacy.

Are you supporting Paul? He sounds like your guy, extreme and WAY...out there.

Oh well. It's 9:30 over here. I gotta get dressed to go out. I probably shouldn't torment you like this but I'm going to a mostly sodomite Christmas party tonight. Realy, I am.

Bye for now.

Budbud what you are saying is biased.
You would have people believe that only low population places are against gay marriage. I would not call TX,VA,OH, and MI small populations. The simple facts are that most states don't want it, and over half the states already have amendments to define marriage as between one man and one woman. And there is likely to be more and more. Even places that tend to be somewhat leftist like Hawaii have state marriage amendments.

Yes, AZ did fail to pass an amendment, and it was just barely. We will see if the people try for it again next election and if it passes or not.

Sorry if you disagree and are angry about it, but people do not want to have homosexual marriage forced on them.

As far as the pro-life thing, I think that it is much stronger than you are making it out to be, and the numbers of the pro-life movement do tend to grow with time.

budbud, ron paul
No I'm not a Ron Paul guy. I like Huckabee and plan to vote for him. I also like Tancredo and Hunter.

A company being forced against their will to hire someone that they do not want to hire is not a civil rights issue, it is more of a special rights issue.

In America there is plenty of oppertunity to work for a place that you want to work for and who wants you to work for them. And people have a right to boycott a company and tell others to.

Most Ron Paul supporters seem to favor anarchy, which is something that I do not favor. Nor do I agree with him on quite a few things.

Chuck Norris
The Chuck Norris series, “Walker, Texas Ranger,” was a very poor cops and robbers drama and Chuck displayed his total lack of acting chops there week after week for all to see. He was the "star," but every other member of the cast was a much better actor than was he. I was in the series myself about four times here in Dallas and saw everything up close and personal on those occasions.

Stephen Baldwin says Chuck has become a fine Christian man recently. His conversion is probably the reason why he has endorsed Huckabee, the former Baptist minister. The truth of the matter remains, however, that just because a man is or claims to be a Christian or a Christian minister does not mean he knows anything whatsoever about the principles of national governance. And just because a man is a popular marshal arts actor does not mean he knows anything about who is the best candidate for president.

We should base our choice of a candidate solely on their demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to obey the US Constitution to which they will have to swear solemn allegiance when they are inducted into office. Everything else must of necessity be secondary if our experiment in government founded on supreme moral principles is to continue much longer into the future.

Chuch Norris (continued)
Mr. Huckabee may or may not be a man of personal integrity, I don't know; however, he has displayed a lack of wisdom and clear thinking in dealing with a great variety of issues up to now. Those of us who actually understand the main issues in-depth as Dr. Ron Paul sees them, know beyond the shadow of a doubt that, because of his immensely strong Constitutional foundation, Dr. Paul is the only man who can lead this nation out of the gigantic tar-pit of wacko lunacy into which we have stumbled during all the years of my long lifetime and well beyond. Serious Christians would honor their Savior and God tremendously more by supporting Dr. Paul than Mr. Huckabee. Like it or not, fellow believers, that’s just the way it is.

budbud
Good comments but there is a catch

Sexual Rights protection will eventually include others YOU may not like in the future.

POLYGAMY, BESTIALITY, INCESTRY, PEDOPHILIA.

All of these could (according to a judge in the future) also get protection just like Gay rights.

1. Polygamy, consenting adults who also have a religious tradition. This one is more explanable than Gay rights.
2. Incestry, consenting adults. This also is more explanable than Gay rights.
3. Pedophilia, The current age of ADULT in AMERICA is just as likely to be changed in the future for PEDOPHILES as SODOMY was for Gays. When an adult is changed to AGE 10 by a JUDGE then yesterdays pedophile is todays very YOUNG adult catch.
4. Bestiality, PETA and animal rights are well on the way to defining Consenting Animals and all benefits that other species will gain by NON-DISCRIMINATION of other species. Who are you to say I cannot marry my dog?

Each of these is different. Each has adherants that claim to be BORN THAT WAY. Each is on a different time scale as to when a JUDGE will feel they are an oppressed group, like gays.

I suggest we take the power AWAY from activist judges (that gave us gay rights) and give it back to the people.
The 1968 civil rights act was the appropriate way to acknowldge rights,,, NOT JUDGES RULINGS

A society is only as good as the majority of it's citizens.

And NO,, the 1968 ruling for civil rights did NOT include GAY RIGHTS. It took 30 years and changing of laws (that the congress of 1968 had on the books) for a JUDGE to determine that GAYS were SUPPOSSED to be included way back when...

Apparently he thinks society will NOT pass a CIVIL RIGHTS law for GAYS.

Give these LAWS back to the people, thus a judge will never be able to ram polygamy, pedophilia, incestry, bestiality, etc... upon YOU.

Unless of course you have no problem with these other sexual rights. If you don't then be happy with the current process...

Chuck Norris

BEFORE THE BOOGEYMAN GOES TO SLEEP, HE CHECKS HIS CLOSET FOR CHUCK NORRIS.

CHUCK NORRIS IS SO FAST, HE CAN RUN AROUND THE WORLD AND TOUCH HIMSELF IN THE BACK.

CHUCK NORRIS DOESN'T DO PUSH UPS, HE PUSHES THE WORLD DOWN!

Glad to see a mainstream icon is actually showing his conservative pride!

ColinCody.
If Ron Paul is the guy that you feel Christians should support then good for you. Personally I disagree. Ron Paul seems to promote lawlessness and anarchy. Some of his followers even own up to anarchy as the best form of government.

Many Christians do not support Ron Paul because they do not want lawlessness. The most ignored law in this nation is probably drinking and driving. Every night a whole lot of people come home drunk. And they get drunk at the bar then drive home. Most drunks think they can drive drunk and its fine. Go check out MADD. Besides all that you probably know plenty of people who do it because it is so wide spread. If we already do not have the laws enforced for the safety of society, then what is Ron Paul going to do? More over, a lot of alcohalics and drug addicts think that Ron Paul is going to work to legalize drugs. Thats just what we need.

Ron Paul's non-intervention foreign policy would have done nothing about Hilter. If you agree with it then you agree with it, but just making sure you understand.

As you can tell, there are some things that I like about Ron Paul and some things I do not. If he is your man, then that is your choice. Ron Paul has a right to his views and I'm glad that he is able to express them. But do I agree with all of them? No. Some of his views I think are very unfortunate and not what we need.

Hard to believe
I've been a conservative all my life. This will be the first election -- if Huckabee is the nominee -- that I will not vote.

My reasoning: If Huckabee were to win, in four years, he will have screwed things up so royally that we would inevitably loose the next election to whoever the decocrats run.

Huckabee is another Jimmy Carter waiting to happen. I respect his religious views, but he is absolutely inept on foreign policy, on taxes, on economics. His degree in theology will carry him so far. He record on pardons is so pathetic as to be embarassing.

Surely conservatives want someone who's intelligent and has good judgement? Have you Huck supporters really examined his record? How do you justify pardoning killers? Incredible!

HUCKABEE
The only real thing that is different about Huckabee that nobody wants to pick out is the FAIR TAX. Need I say more.

huckabee - 1/3 of a candidate
huckabee is great on the social issues.

huckabee is bad on fiscal issues. he is mandated by the arkansas constitution to balance the budget.
he did.
but not by cutting programs, but by raising taxes.

he is also endorsed by the NEA, another red flag. it is almost automatic to oppose any entity like the NEA or ACLU that have inflicted so much damage on our society.

he wiggles around the issue but some of his policies are pro illegal alien. sorry, but giving illegal aliens breaks over US citizens is arrogantly wrong.

if you give out of your wallet, that's charity. if you do it out of mine, it's stealing.
