Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is planning the establishment of a "select" committee on the environment and energy that would undermine the authority of Rep. John Dingell, the Michigan Democrat who was first elected in 1954 and is the senior member of Congress.

Dingell, a Detroit congressman closely tied to the auto industry, is reported by congressional sources to be furious about the Energy and Commerce committee that he heads losing jurisdiction to Pelosi's new creation. The select panel would also supplant the House Natural Resources Committee headed by Rep. Nick Rahall, who as a West Virginian is sympathetic to the coal industry.

The prospective chairman of the new committee would be Rep. Ed Markey of Massachusetts, one of the most flamboyant liberals and uncompromising environmentalists in Congress.

Gonzales's Judges

Conservative court-watchers were surprised and alarmed Wednesday when Atty. Gen. Alberto Gonzales, who has not said a word recently about judicial selection, delivered a speech saying that "the president and I" pick the persons who are named to the federal bench. Gonzales is not a favorite of conservatives.

Judicial selection had been in the hands of recently resigned White House Counsel Harriet Miers. Gonzales chose the interregnum between Miers and her successor, old Washington hand Fred Fielding, to speak to an audience of from 75 to 100 at the American Enterprise Institute.

Asserting that President Bush is looking for nominees who would practice judicial restraint, Gonzales declared that "I am charged with helping him find such people." Until now, that duty had been in the hands of Miers, who had to reject efforts by Gonzales to put his own choices on the bench.

Dick Morris's Appeal

Persons on Republican mailing lists this week received an appeal for funds from Dick Morris, President Bill Clinton's political strategist in 1995-1996, asking for a contribution between $25 and $100 or more to finance a critical film documentary of Sen. Hillary Clinton.

Signing the letter as "Former Clinton Adviser," Morris wrote: "If you liked how the Swift Boat Veterans turned the tide against John Kerry, you understand how a top Clinton aide can turn the tables and stop a Clinton-style liberal from becoming the next president of the United States."

Morris's appeal was made through The Presidential Coalition, run by conservative activist Dave Bossie. The letter described Morris as dedicated to electing presidents like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush. Since 1996, Morris has been an author, columnist and television commentator.

Down in Missouri

Missouri Republican Gov. Matt Blunt's prospective 2008 re-election campaign was not on the agenda of a recent meeting between him and his political team, leading to informed speculation that he might not run for a second term in the barometer state.

Republican fortunes in Missouri nose-dived after Blunt, at age 33, rode a 2004 GOP tide to victory. He was at war with his conservative base last year after endorsing a ballot initiative supporting embryonic stem cell research that was passed in the 2006 election. State Atty. Gen. Jay Nixon, the state's most experienced Democratic office-seeker, is expected to be a formidable candidate for governor.

A footnote: Blunt was the only governor present at former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's recent presidential fund-raising extravaganza.

Dr. Multimillionaire (cont.)

Rep. Steve Kagen, the self-financed freshman Democrat who claimed he insulted George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Laura Bush and Karl Rove at a post-election White House reception, called for bipartisan cooperation in his first legislative speech in the House Wednesday.

Democratic leaders were reported to have advised Kagen to cool off when he took the House floor to urge passage of a college aid bill. Kagen attracted national attention by telling peace activists in his northern Wisconsin district of his alleged taunting of President and Mrs. Bush. The White House called Kagen's story "ridiculous."

Kagen, who calls himself "Dr. Multimillionaire," is a rich allergist who came from nowhere to win the usually Republican district.

Be afraid, be very afraid
If we get Ed Markey in charge of anything to do with science we all need to be very afraid. This individual is without a doubt the stupidest moron to ever roam the halls of congress. He once sent out a letter to all the Nuclear Power plants ordering them to produce proof that spent fuel shipping casks could withstand a crash from a large aircraft and then burning when submersed in 300,000 gallons of jet fuel. Never mind that he did not have the authority to demand anything. Never mind the fact that it would be almost impossible for an experienced pilot to crash a large aircraft into something as small as a SFC. Never mind the fact if an aircraft were to crash into the cask most of the fuel would be scattered all over acres and acres.

If Ed Markey were to get his way in all things the entire country will be “Californized” for energy production meaning you’ll all have to learn to live with blackouts and shortages

vic
I agree completely, unfortunately. The whole business about Dingell's "close ties to the auto industry" and Rahall's "sympathy for the coal industry" is just one more example of the media types (and I include Novak, here) not understanding the situation. Markey is not only a "conservation/solar/wind only" deep-eco fanatic, he is also a hard-core anti-nuclear power activist. He claims he's only opposed to nuclear weapons, but he habitually shows up at rallies against nuclear power plants. He led the fight against the Nevada nuclear waste repository, in spite of experts testifying that waste enclosed in vitrified glass and put down a disused mine is about as harmless as any sort of waste product can get. Heinlein was in favor of that approach- enough said. (Want a real radiation hazard? Check out the tailings from a coal mine sometime. Coal seams are often colocated with pitchblende seams, especially in the hard-coal country of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and here in Ohio. This is one reason we have a radon-seepage problem in a lot of homes around the Ohio River Valley.)

To put it bluntly, Markey hates nuclear power at least as much as he hates civilian firearms ownership, and he gets an A+ on that subject from Sarah Brady & Co. (Just what are they calling themselves this week, anyway? In recent years, they've been changing organization titles faster than the old NKVD/MGB/KGB crowd did.)

Ms. Pelosi said prior to her debut' as Speaker that any energy plan involving nuclear power was "dead on arrival" in the new Congress. It looks like Empress Nan has appointed Duke Edward her Lord High Executioner.

Yes, I do think this new Congressional "leadership" looks and acts like something out of Gilbert & Sullivan. (And I, personally, don't particularly like Gilbert & Sullivan.)

cheers

vic
"Be afraid. Be very afraid."

My sentiments exactly. If we have people from the two most liberal states in the country calling the shots in the congress we should indeed be afraid.

To eon
Yes, I am very familiar with Markey. I retired last year after 28 years in the civilian Nuclear Power industry.

Dick Morris Is So Unappealing
The only time he can get an audience is when BillO throws him a bone.

Govenor Blunt will not run for reelection in Missouri and if he does, he'll lose.

Gonzales picking judges! What does he know about the law except how to break it?

Rep. Markey a "flamboyant liberal"? So that would make Novakio a flamboyant conservative huh?. Why have an environmentalist dealing with the environment when auto and coal industry interests have worked so well.

"Kagen....came from nowhere to win the usually Republican district." Now there is some handwriting on the wall for those who choose to read.

The reason
The reason the Dems/Libs don't like Dick Morris is because he changed his views.
I don't always agree with him, but he is usually accurate about what Bill?Hillary are up to.

Morris never had any 'views' of....
convictions, only visions of consultant dollars from any politician of any stripe. Such as two clients, two former Governors of Arkansas, one dem, one repub, Clinton and Huckabee. He's an opportunistic bottom feeder.

Dick Morris is Honest and appealing
If the Clinton's close advisor Dick Morris is against them being in the White House again then I for one am listening. It's not like we already don't know of the evils of a Clinton White House or that we can't see that Hillary is the farthest thing from the center as you can get. But if he's willing to reiterate those things that are wrong with them and tell us some of the inside stuff we didn't know then I definately listening. We can't afford for them to desecrete the office one more time.

Energy
The only ways we're ever gonna be less dependent on foreign sources of fuel will be to drill more in the Gulf and off California and Florida, and of course to open up ANWR. Red Nancy is opposed to each and every one of these.

Make refining more efficient and more environmentally friendly? Build new refineries! Again, opposed by all on the left.

To get rid of inefficient and pollution heavy power plants, we need to build new plants, new nuke plants, and lots of wind farms. Will anybody on the left allow any of these?

Rep. Kagen
In a Jan 13 newspaper column, it stated that Rep. Kagen received a letter from the Food and Drug Administration saying his allergy practice is in violation of federal laws by selling allergy shots without a valid license. He is selling shots to his patients and in at least 24 other states. A special license is required to do this.

I heard a sound bite
on the radio yesterday regarding this new committee. Something to the effect that the Democrats were 'bringing democracy to the congress.'
Not the House of Representatives, but the Congress (which is both houses)
And my immediate thought was, so what has it been for two hundred plus years? She didn't say
'returning' the Congress to democracy, which would have been another swipe at the Republicans.
Nope she indicated with her own words that the Congress has not been a democratic operation, and needs to be.

If you liked the first 100 hours..
imagine the sublime time to be had in the next 2 years!

Poor Salesmanship
"The letter described Morris as dedicated to electing presidents like Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush."

The above sentence should have stopped after "Reagan". Morris should know better than to ask Republicans to elect presidents like George W. Bush. Four more years of him or his hand-picked successor and the GOP itself would be in the dustbin of history.

Is that Morris's true goal?

HEMP for energy self sufficiency
Hemp could put us on path to energy self sufficiency. Hemp would raise the standard of living for all in poverty.
We also need more drilling for oil in America. We need more alternatives to oil rather than destroying even further the only option we have really for energy now.

Competition and more choices is better than monopolies or government interference.

These ideas alone would go much further than our lack of plans now.

It would definately be better than what the Dems did in first 100 hrs or the Repubs who love coddling big oil with special perks, priviledges, and corporate welfare schemes, to keep them in a monopolistic state.

(Repealing tax cuts for big oil is only going to make the greedy bastards raise their prices and shift the cost to the consumer.)

Get educated about this good plant intended for the healing of the nations.

Google "industrial hemp" for more info.

Big Decisions.....
Auto Industry....Labor Unions...Auto Industy.....Labor Unions. What a choice, huh?

For those that hate the Oil Industry
Everyone that hates the oil industry PLEASE, PLEASE boycott gas stations, heating oil suppliers, and disconnect your natural or propane gas lines. The reduced usage might just solve our supply problem. You might think I am being sarcastic but in dealing with the Left and organized environmentalists I long ago quit kidding.

Of course those to blame are not Fancy Nancy or Randy Reid but those that elected enough Democrats to give power to some of the most left winged politicians in American history. If you like what you see now then just think what it will be like if Clinton, Obama, Edwards, etc get elected president.

Of course we can allow people to be so nutty because we are spoiled thanks to the riches provided the country from our capitalist system. Of course in the minds of the Democratic base capitalists are still the evil oppressors of the world.

Let's face it, the Left hates the America we have been and hates the America we are. I am no longer quite sure what they would replace it with but I doubt I will wish to live there and as many Russian Revolutionaries learned neither will many of the naive ideologues on the left here in the USA.

Hey Kimberly
Markey's not an environmentalist. He's an envirowacko! I wouldn't mind seeing folks who care for the environment in charge, just not the extremists.

The power companies would LOVE to build power plants that are more environmentally friendly than what's out there now. Those plants would be much more efficient, more cost effective, and would produce much more than what we have now. Some would be nuclear (safe and environmentally friendly when done right), and some would be other types. Wind farms would help out considerably, but no politician wants them anywhere near their areas (see Sen. Teddythedrunk D-Chappaquiddick).

The 'environmentalists' like Markey and Red Nancy won't let that happen because they want to punish America into using the same amount of power that we used in the early 50's through taxation and higher prices.

hosekuervo opines:
..."Dingell's fury
Guess what boys-
That's what happens when you lose Congress."

I always suspected our tequila-drinking friend was partaking too much of his favorite beverage when posting here.

Hey Housekuervo! Dingell is a LIBERAL DEMOCRAT! His (your) party WON!

Thanks for the laugh!

Red Nancy
is not the only power player in this ballgame. Come on up to my blog when you get a chance and vent over the Hillary bid for power.
We've got big hurdles to get over coming up to 2008.
Disaster in the making with the dems in total control if it happens in 2 years.

Gaylord
appears to post as a liberal. Notice that NONE of his posts present substantive arguments; instead, they are ad hominem attacks against various conservatives.

Typical of the left: why argue when you can defame?

It's a whole lot easier on liberals' meager intellect to present criticism (but no ideas) and to attack the person, not the argument. That's why leftists are such lightweights.

I took lessons from Atwater, DavidMac.
Besides how do you discuss with unhinged frenzies on the fringe. That moron Tabor advises y'all to heat up the phone lines. Why, to greatly increase the stroke rate? You're only preaching to each other and the audience is dwindling. I spend most of my time while on this board laughing, at you.

To Crawfish
The power companies would love to build some base load power plants. No one has built any in a long time for a number of reasons and it looks like those reasons are now going to multiply. The only thing people have built in the past 10 or 15 years is IC Turbine and Combined Cycle Gas. These plants are very expensive to operate but cheap to build. The Public Service commissions pretty much got this into place back in the late 70s and early 80s by only allowing some of the cost of new power plants into the rate base. The utilities then just quit building anything of significant size. The IC Turbine and combined cycle plants use natural gas. This is why they are so expensive to operate and why the cost of natural gas has gone up so much in the last 10 years. These plants are typically about 200 MW and are used for peaking power. The added generation has not kept up with demand increase which has caused a lot of the problems you see with the blackouts.

My old utility tried a wind turbine up in the NC mountains a few years ago. At that time it was fairly expense to build and produced a relatively low amount of power. It also made a LOT of noise. Neighbors complained about the noise for miles around. It was also pretty hard on birds. The bottom line was that at the current rate structure, it is not economically feasible and it had a lot of other negatives associated with it. The other source that you currently hear about from the enviros and libtards is solar. In Southern California, where the last I heard, normal rates were about 0.15 cents a kw-hr with added penalties for “excessive use”, solar finally become cost competitive. There should be some other things to keep in mind about solar. (1) it only works during the day so you’ll still need the grid there at night. (2) The expected lifetime of the collectors installed on your roof is 10 years so at the end of 10 years you have a waste disposal problem with hazardous waste that has a half-life of infinity. (3) Solar will never become cost completive in areas that do not have a lot of sunshine.

There are a few other power sources out there. They are all very expensive when compared to the current mix. That may change though since the current generation mix relies on fossil fuel burning for about 70% of the generated power. If you come up with a big “carbon trading” penalty you could make solar and wind competitive nationwide, as long as you don’t mind rolling blackouts periodically. You wouldn’t be cost competitive by making it cheaper either. Of course since it would now cost so much that low income people (< $50k a year) couldn’t afford it, you would have to have a multi-tier pricing system where the larger your income, the higher your electric bill. So at the end of it all you will have what the libtards want. A massive increase in socialism and a massive increase in the misery index. (remember that one from the Carter years)

gaylord
gaylord has verbal diarrhea
( running off at the mouth ) .

Peloski Power? Dimo/Lib power??
Here is perhaps a prime example of what to expect from these #8%&^5# Liberals! God I hate Liberals!

The Minutemen are now being set up to be "Domestic Terrorists!"

Go here to read the details.

http://wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=53857

To Goshawk
How did a liberal member of the Green Party get elected in Az? I had to realized that Az had gone over to the dark side. I have a sister-in-law there. I think I'll forward this to her and ask if she thinks it has a chance of passing.

vic
I have know idea. I spent several years in Tucson and was always proud of their independent stance. This shocks me as much as it does you.

Goshawk
Never underestimate the idiocy of the pro-crime Left element, but if WND's poll means anything, Kyrsten may want to rethink this particular piece of legislation. Anyone thinking of voting for it might want to think twice, too.

I'm sending the link to my gun-owning brother, who left California for Arizona a couple of years ago, in part because they didn't seem to hate the Second Amendment in Arizona. He loves Sheriff Joe and was thinking about joining the Minutemen. Maybe he should start a protest instead.

Kimberly- I am really glad that the
extreme Left that is now running the Democratic Party is moving so fast and revealing all of their kookie ideas the moment they get power.

I think the moderate Dems are beginning to realize "this ain't your daddy's Democratic Party!"

I mean, how nutty can you be to try and legislate away spanking? To try and silence talk radio? Pull the troops out of Iraq, resulting in a blood bath and national disgrace?

What else do they plan to do tho alienate their constituants?

What ever it is, I hope they announce it in the splashy they have been doing: it will make our job easier in electinga sane President in '08- and it won't be Shrillary or OsamaObama.

To Mountain Rose
It doesn;t appear like the Demos are alienating their base from the people whon are posting here from the KOS and DU. Maybe their constituents get alienated but they get voted in some way or another.

vic
Aw c'mon, the people who are posting here are the ones the Dems play to when they're trying to get the nomination--the real loons. You can't judge the REAL Democrats by these people.

On the other hand, somehow that broad got elected in Arizona....

Polly
I think your brother made a wise decision moving to AZ. Arizona has always been a state to respect and protect the 2nd Amendment. Unless something has drastically changed. I remember one time I and my son were heading out to do a little target shooting at 7 am. We stopped at a convenient store to get coffee and snacks. But I forgot, or didn't even think about it, that I was wearing my fast-draw western rig with a loaded 44 mag Blackhawk on my hip when we went in. The girl remarked as we paid. "Out to do a little shooting eh?" "Have fun!" And that's the way it was all over AZ.

Re: Morris
While Dick Morris is unappealing to some, if anyone knows the Clintons, it is he. He was the insider who blew the whistle on Bill Clinton's disinterest in terrorism and said Clinton didn't speak to his C.I.A. chief for TWO YEARS. Dick knows where most all the skeletons in the Clinton's closet are buried, and probably help put some of them there.

dick morris
Why would any one listen to you? you come off so arrogant. Maybe you aren't. Remind us why you have this hate for Sen. Clinton. She's out in front while you slither in back. Stop talking, just for a while.

When Morris starts writing about the
Clintons he needs to start looking over his shoulder and change his routine. They won't be happy.

I can't believe that a Liberal would accuse Republicans of dirty politics. Another example of accusing everyone of doing the very thing that they are doing.

I think that Nance, Hill, Harry, and Gore need to be spanked.

Imagine all the Liberals who ran as moderates. Moderate? No way.The libs have taken this country so far to the left I feel as if I live in the Netherlands.

We get what we deserve.

Morris is probably the smartest
political operator out there. The lefties loved him when he got bubba elected and hate him now for exposing the clintons for the trailer trash they are.
It was Dick Morris [a Jew] who exposed the hildabeast as an anti-semite a few years ago, I hope he beats that drum louder for the next 2 years, it didn't get heard in NY.

The thought that this women has the chutzpah to run for president makes me sick, Just what makes her qualified? Hanging around the WH for 8 years with bubba?
If the libs are stupid enough to elect her, it will be the start of the downfall of this country, but that is what they really want isn't it?
Liberals are ashamed to be Americans IMO, they cannot live up to the classic American image, so they run it down.

Dick Morris
I expect every candidate for POTUS to be given the once over by political foes. Best to have these folks vetted in every possible way before they are voted for or against. Whether its Borak HUSSIEN Obama being raised as a radical islamic fundementalist for a period in indonesia or hillary lobbing anti-semetic remarks around with the same verve and proficiency as the president of iran, it's good to know.

Dems jumping the shark
Not all us Dems are agreeing with the more leftist wing of the party. Pelosi's Big 100 hour agenda is done ? How much of it is going to get thru the senate and to the President's desk? The minimum wage bill..Yes. hmmmmm How much else? Embryonic stem cell? DOA on Bush's desk. Most of the other bills are going to get tied up in the senate. I don't think you will see too many pics of Reid and Pelosi together in the future. How about that tuna company Nan? Headquarters where? Ethics? Please, cut me a break. Some animals more equal than others? Markey, Watch how fast organizations like Stratus consulting line up for federal funding.
The faster they show their beliefs on the national level the faster Dems like myself see them for the subversive individuals they are and try to wrest control of the party from them.

To NJ1DEM
I wish you luck. Nothing would please me more than to see the return of the party of Zel Miller and Sam Nunn. I use those names only because I, being from Ga,am familiar with them.

Tricky Dicky Jr.

Every time I see Dick Morris on FOX, the only station who'll have him, I can't help but remember the footage of him years back, reclining on a balcony at some hotel with an unnamed woman. Another republican moralist whose credibility ranks just below that of 'Honest Ernie's Used Cars'.
Rant on Dick, as you fade away......

Bolshevik Bill Jr!!
Hey Danny Del!!
Better start looking for that blue stained dress to save your Zipper-in-Chief!! No, come to think about it he already got saved just like another hero of yours Sandy Burglar!!

Morris
Yeah I'm going to listen to Dick Morris. Is'nt he the guy who the Clinton's fired for sucking prostitutes toes and have fathered a child he chose to ignore? How stupid do you have to be to pay attention to a bottom feeder like this, who lasted one year with the Clintons

AGAIN, HOW FAST THEY FORGET...
1. About Dick (sic, very sic) Morris - remember this headline: Dick Morris Back on the Mexican Campaign Trail? - and his articles boiled down to " most of Americans want illegals"...
2. only a myopic imbeciles do not think about unforseen consequences - e.g.
Spanking. Say,
a dad and a mom have spanked 1 year old; both go to prison for a year.
DCFS walks in, takes the child, finds foster parents.
After a year, the real parents are out of prison -
and a child do not want to go with "strangers".

Child/parental trauma, anyone??? Anybody CARES?????

To Vic,
I'm working on it :)I clapped when Miller spoke at the Repub convention.
As for " Pelosivich " Absolutely Gold!

Dick Morris and where bodies are buried
Dick Morris may well be a less than appealing and morraly upstanding guy. But he still knows the Clintons, their people and all their games better than any one. So it seems only to be expected that if any body , or group of people are going to be able to get to the ugly truth about the Clintons and all of the things they did, it is him. It would seem they are not above any trick or tactic to get into power, and keep power. They are one family that seems to be unafraid to intimidate any one over anything. Sexual assault, and hiding evidence all seem to be acceptable practice with this family. Remember the Rose Law Firm papers that turned up over a year after being sought under subpoena. Remember where found on the second floor of the White House, the residece floor! All the while this stalling is going on, Democrat party people are complaining about how the investigation is taking too long!
I do not see her as somone to be trusted. Too much time spent covering up for her husbands wrong doing!

Morris carries some baggage,
but who connected to the Clintons doesn't? I suspect that his film will be promptly dismissed as sour apples or simply as another Clinton smear job.

Nevertheless, Morris has an absolutely brilliant political mind. He sees underlying trends long before they ever sprout. I am much happier with him on our side of the aisle (for as long as that lasts).

As mentioned earlier, Morris has the goods on the Cs and they know it. He is one person who will not need a pension plan if he shows too much of what he knows. Perhaps he would be wise to squirrel away some of the film donation for security.
