Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

President Bush's political advisers are urging Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele neither to seek nor accept a Cabinet post but instead find a national platform on television or radio.

While losing for the U.S. Senate, Steele attracted favorable attention across the country as an eloquent African-American Republican. Bush political strategists have told Steele a high-ranking post in the administration's last two years would curb his independence and cramp his style. Instead, they advised, he could be "a black Rush Limbaugh."

Steele was interested in heading the Republican National Committee, but his independence displayed during the 2006 campaign was not what the White House wanted there. The decision had been made weeks earlier to name Sen. Mel Martinez of Florida as general chairman and Kentucky National Committeeman Mike Duncan as national chairman.

HOUSE GOP BREAKDOWN

The renowned House Republican whip operation was nowhere to be seen Monday on the first day of the lame-duck session when the Vietnam trade bill fell 32 votes short of the two-thirds necessary for passage, four days before President Bush's arrival in Hanoi.

House GOP discipline enforced for 12 years broke down with 66 Republican members voting against the president. They did not have to defy the party's whips. There simply was no effort to whip the troops.

The breakdown in discipline was reflected by a surprising number of senior House members among the 66 defectors. They included Reps. Pete Hoekstra, Intelligence Committee chairman; Duncan Hunter, Armed Services chairman; Joe Barton, Energy and Commerce chairman; and Bill Young, former Appropriations chairman -- all normally dependable in following the leadership.

CHAFEE'S LAST DEFECTION

President Bush's political team, after six years of tolerating Sen. Lincoln Chafee's irregularities, was enraged by his final defection following defeat for re-election in Rhode Island.

The national Republican strategists had excused Chafee's repeated deviations from party line voting on grounds that it was necessary for him to survive in his heavily Democratic state. But with Chafee a defeated lame duck after the election, there was no political justification for his declared opposition to John Bolton as United Nations ambassador. That killed any last hope for confirming Bolton.

The White House had made a calculated decision to support Chafee against a regular Republican in the GOP primary in the belief only he could be elected. The Bush aides felt Chafee owed the president the Bolton vote since he was leaving the Senate anyway.

MCCAIN'S PARTY

Immediately after the midterm elections, major contributors to George W. Bush's campaigns received invitations from prospective presidential candidate John McCain for an expensive Christmas party at the Corcoran Gallery in downtown Washington.

The invitation from Sen. and Mrs. McCain is for "a holiday reception" from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with "cocktail attire" specified. A free party at the Corcoran, providing valet parking, requires big bucks.

At about the same time that night a few blocks away, House members will be attending their annual White House Christmas party. Thus, Bush and McCain will be on receiving lines at the same time, one beginning a walk out of power and the other trying to start his way in.

DELAY'S SUCCESSOR

The last remnants of the resigned Tom DeLay's once powerful congressional staff on Tuesday walked out of the office of his temporary successor, Rep. Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, because of exasperation with her. Sekula-Gibbs, a Houston City Council member and physician, was elected to serve in the lame-duck session but was defeated in a write-in for a full term.

The last straw for the DeLay alumni was when they were instructed by Sekula-Gibbs to make sure President Bush and Vice President Cheney were seated in the gallery for her swearing-in. The word on Capitol Hill is that she must have been really obnoxious for staffers to give up two months of easy pay.

Sekula-Gibbs's conduct raises doubts whether she will be the Republican nominee whose name will appear on the 2008 ballot in the strongly GOP Texas district.

President McCain?
Great... Two Mexican presidents in a row... Pelosi, Hildebeast, (Sorry... That one was just TOO tempting to pass up) Boxer, McCain... All the same person. America has proven that it will lop off its nose to spite its face (Speaker Pelosi) will it really go all the way and slit its throat? Can't we just bring Reagan back? Please?

Probably McCain
I will not vote for McCain, Ever. Americans have become lazy. They want Socialism.

Steele, a man with a moral compass
needs to be deeply involved and meshed in politics, not on television or radio. We need men like him holding office and representing our party. Who comes up with this sh*t?

Info-mercial?
It seems to be a practical thing to puchace TV time on cable and broadcast outlets to sell everything from mattresses to exercise machines. There are tel-evagelists selling the idea of God.

This is a medium which should be exploited to 'sell' the ideas of conservatism. Do you think the population might want to see Mr. Steele selling freedom? He could have guests such as Thomas Sowell, Bill Cosby, Ann Coulter, even Britt Hume on a Tonight Show format discussing stem cells, gun ownership, tax policy, welfare and other topics of interest to the country. As a stunningly radical concept, they could showcase war on terror veterans to tell of successes. "Domestic spying" could be put into perspective. Attacks on Walmart might be discussed in in a free market perspective.
the possibilities are limitless, just ask Ron Popeil.

Of course, invitations would be extended to Hillary, Schumer, Pelosi etc. to actually support their moonbat claims and defend them against an informed commentator. This would be fun if any of these "champions of the people" would dare to show up. Maybe Rosie O'Donnell would give it a try.

For funds, the audience would be urged to purchase conservative tee shirts, bumper stickers etc.

Can't the RNC come up with the funds and organization neded for this?

We don't need yet another conservative radio talk show.

Steele on TV or RADIO???
YES, YES, YEEEEESSSSSSSS!

Steele, McCain
I want to see more of him. I think we need more like him.

Funny I didn't get an invite to McCain's little "get-together", guess he is only looking for the big bucks now, but I bet he'll be asking for my little chump change before it is over. I know I won't contribute, much less vote for him. My hope is that we have another choice in the primarys.

Side note...looks like the Dems will have plenty of choices.

From Illinois
Shortly after the MSM decided that Barak Obama could walk on water, I became aware of Michael Steele's existance. I thought then that he could be a viable solution to a BO candidacy.

I backed McCain in 2001 but he has become unstable. If Steele's slate is as clean as BO's is supposed to be, what an interesting race that could be!

Steele and McCain

.....My opinion...

.....Steele is a good man but he will always be an oreo cookie to 75% of the black vote...the race in Maryland proved that and I don't see a change in the near future...

.....McCain will not survive the primaries if he is challenged by a true conservative...he is a sell-out to conservative ideals and as demonstrated by the House vote on trade with Vietnam conservatives are furious over being betrayed by their leaders...they followed Bush over the cliff and lost their majority...I think Bush might be in for a rocky road with House Republicans for the next two years.....COLOSSUS

Avoid the Taint
He should consider it a blessing that the translucent moderates of the Bush administration consider Steele too controversial or too orthodox or whatever their problem is.

Steele.....
What a refreshing alternative to the usual "eggheads" pontificating on various issues. He should be front and center for the Republicans.....Oh if only some farsighted TV person could replace some of the outdated commentators with Steele!!!!

re: CHAFEE'S LAST DEFECTION
Jez, talk about the triumph of hope over experience. Add another name to the long list of people whose character Bush has badly misjudged.

Chafee's Betrayal
It appears the Bush team has trouble whipping "Republican" senators into shape. Excusing Sen. Chaffee's past indiscretions did not change the fact that he and many other politicians take calculated risks.

Yes, there is a sort of agenda in high political office. The longer you are in power in Washington, the more visible agenda items become. Voting records are a good place to start validating agenda policies.

Chaffee figured correctly he could do as he pleased and not suffer any real consequences. As far as not backing Bolton, he probably did not like the man, so he was not inclined to support him. Seen as Bush's spokesman, the media had it in for him. Bolton did nothing (for himself)to soften his public image. He came across as a hard-nosed bureaucrat(hack)doing the bidding of his boss.

Had Bolton projected a more polished image (seen a hair stylist for the more popular, Clinton blow-dry look), he might have gained some public approval. The White House could have released select head-shots (chromes), as is done at talent agencies. This is called image control. It sure beats damage control.

Image consciousness is never going to "come from within"- as all bureaucrats are accustomed to the organizational cultures and reward systems they were raised in. He had conformed a long time ago and was a "team player". That was fine on the inside.

Once in the public eye, however, the rules are somewhat different. Bolton did not recognize the differences in and out of the public arena. He had been a bureaucrat all his adult life and could not adapt on his own. As a matter of fact, his supervisors could not do any differently than they did either. From the beginning, Bolton was doomed.

I believe Senator Trent Lott would make a perfect ambassador to the United Nations, perhaps even a good Secretary General. Trent's leadership qualities are suited to a big organization such as the U.N.

Pearls before swine.....
Any message that doesn't begin and end with:

1. You are not responsible for your own circumstances.
2. You cannot do it without government.
3. You are a victim.
4. Whitey is responsible for your victimhood.

will ultimately fall on deaf ears.

You're wasting your time.

Evidence:

1. Clarence Thomas - VILIFIED
2. Ron Elder - VILIFIED
3. Thomas Sowell - VILIFIED
4. Walter Williams - VILIFIED
5. Bill Cosby - VILIFIED

6. Charles Rangel - DEIFIED
7. Jessie Jackson - DEIFIED
8. Kweisi Mfume - DEIFIED
9. Bill Clinton - DEIFIED
(wondering why I included doughy white boy? - think about it)
10. Al Sharpton - DEIFIED

Steele is too good for those who choose to be enslaved by the left. Besides, he'll never cure the liberal victimhood politics of hate and envy. Their message is just too attractive and addictive.

Steele
in, McCain (gag) out.........no McCain, no way, no how

It's clearly evident
That the Republicans haven't learned a damn thing since the election and unfortunately it's back to business as usual on the Hill for both parties. I think Steele is a fantastic candidate who has never been given the credit he's due and in my opinion would be a fantastic VP candidate in the next election. The Republicans are making a huge tactical error by endorsing liberal ideas (minimum wage hike, illegal immigration amnesty just to name a few)to charm the minority vote in '08. I think the marginalizing of Steele shows that the GOP is not interested in asserting conservative blacks anymore, but is instead concentrating on what they perceive is the larges untapped voting demographic out there: Hispanics. This brings me back to my point about the liberal ideas I mentioned- by pushing for those things they hope to position themselves to win the Oval Office in '08. The Democrats will never get my vote, but increasingly the Republicans are doing everything they can to lose it too. How many conservatives will sit out in '08 because neither part cares about doing what's best for the country anymore?

The Republicans as a whole have sold out their principles in favor of pushing for Hispanic votes that they erroneously believe will bring them back to the majority. If we're given a choice between Guiliani and McCain, that's no choice at all.

We need seatbelts on desk chairs!
I just read an article in CNSNews where McCain states he wants to return to his Conservative roots.

That is a dangerous thing to spring on someone when they do not have space to lunge forward laughing and are not strapped into a swivel chair.

McCAIN / MURTHA LOOK ALIKE/ CAN'T WIN
McCain is not electable. This election highlighted the fact and I do mean the fact that a Repblican can not win without the support of all major factions of the party. And us ordinary people out here who vote Republican know this better that ever before. In the past when it was important to win we picked a "moderate" or even a RINO but in the recent election we have seen the problem with this. Significant numbers of Republicans stay home. Perhaps just as important even larger numbers of Republicans don't try to persuade their apathetic "independent" friends.

McCain is hated in a personal way by a large percentage of Republicans. He is hated as only a traitor from within the ranks can be hated. An argument can be made that he has done the trecherous things he has done because he can not trust his own Republican Party. Remember, he stinks like John Murtha and for the same reasons. McCain got very dirty in the Savings & Loan Scandal. Remember the "Keating Five". Our government had to go $500 billion in debt over that Savings and Loan Scandal. Dear John Mc was one of the Keating Five. Like Murtha he skated. Cleverly to protect his flank in the future he pledged himself to "campaign reform". He had to get some bill out so that he could pretend to be a goody two shoes. Hence the McCain-Feingold bill which stripped us all of our rights of freedom of expression. McCain did not care. As long as a fawning Main Stream Media attached his name to campaign reform he simply did not and does not care. This disgusting bill was McCain's way of showing that he had reformed and precluding anyone bringing up the "Keating Five". Wrong John. We haven't forgotten.

McCain put together the Gang of Fourteen to prevent a Republican majority in the Senate from approving Presidential appointments to the Federal Judiciary. McCain joined with his pal Ted Kennedy on immigration amnesty. He worked against the President in regard to the torture question. McCain is happy to flood the country with illegals thus diluting our citizenship and making our votes mean less and less. But he wants people who are trying to destroy us to be given the same constitutional rights that we do.

He has done everything that a Senator from a conservative constituency like Arizona can do to oppose the President's efforts Iraq.

The above are more than just reasons for Republicans to support some candidate other than JohnMc. Since he is a Republican serving as Senator from Barry Goldwater's old seat, these are reasons for Republicans to hate him. And unlike any other Republican candidate for President that I can remember many Republicans loath JohnMc.

He is not electible.

chafeeeeeeeeeeeeee
chafeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
steppppppppppppppppppppppppppy
stunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnk
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the Republicans are dumb enough...
To put McCain out there as the candidate in '08, I'll just go ahead and tell you how the election will come out: Democrats will be in the White House and gain new seats in the House and Senate. The Republicans need to bring in some new blood with new ideas and divest themselves of the hacks like McCain and Frist. Guiliani is never going to be president because the only thing conservative about him is his handling of 9/11 which is great, but eventually we need a president who can run the country and Rudy didn't do so well in NYC. Why is it that the Republicans are trying to do what the Dems did- put up candidates who have platforms closer to the opposition than their own party? If that's the way to win elections nowadays then the Republicans are sunk because conservatives will sit out- this one included.

If McCain is the nominee, I'm voting for
Hillary. Seriously.

Strength and Honor
Well said.

I have already been wondering and debating just what I would do faced with a choice of McCain/Hilary. Having to choose between 2 evils or not vote at all and letting others decide for me which evil we will tolerate.

The only thing I can hope is that over the next two years someone truly conservative will emerge and take center front.

There is still time and two years can change a lot of things. Just look what happened over the last 2 years.

I just saw Mississippi's governor speak on C-span yesterday before the Federalist Society and I was very impressed with his conservatism and he has been given the governor of the year award.
Now, I'm not saying he would run or that he's electable, but what I am saying, there probably more jewels out there than McCain and others like him. Perhaps they will be revealed prior to 08.

Black Rush Limbaugh?
How insulting, "You can be a black Rush Limbaugh". Not insulting because of the comparison to Rush, he's awesome, but rather insulting because it's qualified by Steele's color. What would have been wrong with simply imploring him to stay independent of a political position for now to be a loud and influential voice?

I like what I have heard from Steele. Of course my question, when speaking of republicans who are black, what ever happened to JC Watts? Man I loved that guy! He was awesome, why did he retire from politics so soon? I was hoping to see him at the top someday, I'd have voted for him in a heartbeat, he really spoke to me.

John McCain will never get my vote for president, he is duplicitous, unstable and no conservative, I'd hesitate to vote for a ticket with him as VP as well.

Newt
Gingrich and Condi Rice would be a winner.

Clinton's Pearl
Ray,
You were right to include Billy Boy. After all, he IS the first black president. (Will that make Hillary our second black president?)

2008
Condi for Pres.- Michael Steele for Veep.- God I would love to see them debating Hillary and John Edwards.

Only one reason to support McCain
The man is old. He's spent a lot of time in that Arizona sun and he's had the skin cancers to prove it. Depending on whom he taps as VEEP, maybe - just maybe, he'll get some votes because we'll all be voting for the guy who will be president within two years of the election.

McCain & Hillary Similiar
Operating procedures. I like the label that Czarownica put on McCain "unstable." Has anyone noticed how McCain and Hillary both operate from the same platform, it's either rotating or changing daily, but mostly appears to be on automatic, and changes on a as needed basis. There was a time (at least i thought there was) when McCain was a person who was believable solid representative of the Republican party, but somewhere down the line something went wrong with his processor. If McCain is the strongest representative of a Conservative Republican that the party can come up with for 2008, holy crap Batman, were in deep trouble.

Trulib - reverse the order
Put Condi as Veep and Steele up front. I'm not sure Condi is that hot a choice, either. She's still living in the Cold War. All she knows is Russia.

Jerseygirl
It's all fantasy - No real quality individual will put themselves or their families through the meat grinder the MSM has waiting for a conservative candidate. That is why McCain is so well positioned.

How About a Gingrich/Steele Ticket??
The Congressional Godfather of Conservatism and The Man of Steele!

____ Is anybody forming an exploratory committee to help get this bright, articulate, decent, conservative find a ladder to national prominence? He's got the goods and the resume. He deserves our support. He seems to be more delineated as a social conservative. Does anyone know his small government credentials?

____ Not my place to advise him, but I think he should follow Newt's lead and write a serious book. As a sample idea for subject matter, might I suggest that, having been a teacher, he makes the case for school vouchers. It's a subject on which he has personal experience, including his work as Lt. Governor of Maryland. Such a book along with a focused Radio Talk Show would give him an ongoing national dialog with parents and students alike. It's a debate that deserves to be heard in every living room.

____ It would help Steele come into focus accross America as a serious and engaging man of ideas. The electorate is damned tired of "Issue de Jour" politicians. They want some steak with the sizzle!

____ As a small aside, in 1967, I and a lot of college students - mostly white, conservative and idealistic - helped elect America's first popularly elected "black" US Senator: Edward Brooke (R-MA). We did it with basic precinct politics in Massachusetts (home of Splash Kennedy, Flipper Kerry, Blarney Frank and Jerry "I love to turn the Pages" Studs). We won with 58% of the vote. Ed served two terms.
____ It can be done. Not with TV ads and campaign mailers, but door-to-door outreach. We knew the man and could give a personal reference. It made all the difference. I think the key to keeping America free, is outreach to the students and selling them on Liberty and our heritage. Then let them sell candidates that reflect reason and small government perspective.

____ The Declaration of Independence begins: "We find these truths to be self-evident..." Those enumerated truths were self-evident to educated, well-read men in a culture that required self-sufficiency and independent responsibility. That is not as true today. Neither the schools nor the MSM can be counted upon to educate our youth in the verities of civilization and the responsibilities of freedom. Rather they pave the road to serfdom with pablum propaganda and rock candy mountain Marxism.

____ Wouldn't it be nice to have some adults in charge who can talk-the-talk as well as walk-the-walk? Whose words inspire, just as their deeds reassure. We are becoming a remote control society. Leaders do not keep us in the loop until they want our vote or need to deflect blame. The issues are reduced to 20 second sound bites by talking heads that assume we are too dumb or preoccupied to care.

____ I don't know about you, but isn't this the right time for the music to well up to cue the appearance of THE MAN OF STEELE?

Trulib - it's all fantasy
We need fantasy. We have to hope that there are better people than McCain out there. We have to hope that traditional Republicans are willing to deny McCain the nomination, even though he's next in line. Unless we imagine better things ahead, nothing will change.

Gingrich / Steele is an interesting choice. Gingrich is a great speaker, but he might just have too many skeletons in his closet for independents to vote for him. How would Gingrich be at the UN? A schmoozer and a patriot. Who could ask for anything more?

Jerseygirl.....
..... moves to the head of the class.

McCain
I spent years on the AOL Vietnam board defending John McCain's actions as a POW -- and will still do so if needed. But, I would find it very hard to support him for president. Not impossible to vote for, but very hard.

Clyde9

Geronimo
posted, "Bolton did nothing (for himself)to soften his public image. He came across as a hard-nosed bureaucrat(hack)doing the bidding of his boss."

And here I thought Bolton's job was to represent the USA in the UN!

So it's all about PR, huh? Forget that the president runs foreign policy for the country. Bush should be advising Bolton to change barbers because that's what's important. (sarcasm is dripping from this paragraph)

Geronimo, do you actually believe that or do you just hit the keyboard randomly?

McCain
After what McCain has done to the Constitution I could not vote for him. My nightmare is a race between he and Hillary. What kind of choice is that. I don't care if the thinking is it's his turn. That mindset gave us Dole as a candidate, a decent and honorable man, but with too much senate baggage. A governors mansion is where we will find the right person.

John McHURL!!!
McHurl is enough to send me packing to Germany.

I am more than impressed with Steele.
I do think that a Romney/Steele ticket would be great. Romney had to give a lot of ground to the jackasses to get ANYTHING done. Living in California its obvious how hard it is to get anthing done. Schwarzenegger was off to a pretty good start but the donks did everything to screw him over. When he tried to get the people to stand behind him to get some common-sense laws through too many backt down so he had to move left to get anything through. Since Massachusetts doesn't have as good a state (or commonwealth) constitution as California Romney had no recourse at all.

baseballdoc, I told you so
I said it a couple of weeks ago. Bush scuttled his own party to the Dems in return they will give him his amnesty/citizenship legisaltion.

Open Boarder Chairman Martinez GOP?
http://www.controlcongress.com

The GOP base was sent a shock wave by picking a pro-amnesty Mel Martinez as the Republican Party Chairman. It seems clear now, that President Bush will push his open border agenda with the help of Nancy Pelosi lead Congress. Mel Martinez job will be to control GOP Party decent from Congress, with the promise of new Hispanic voters.

Palm Beach Post

Signaling a new direction for the Republican Party, which had heavy losses in the Hispanic community in last week’s elections, Florida Sen. Mel Martinez appeared ready Monday to become the party’s new general chairman while retaining his Senate seat.

Martinez thrust himself into the contentious debate over immigration, helping craft the Senate version of a comprehensive immigration bill that would offer a route to eventual citizenship for longtime illegal residents while requiring others to leave the U.S.

Michele Waslin, director of immigration policy at the National Council of La Raza, is hopeful Martinez and his GOP allies will make the right moves.

Is the GOP selling-out the Base with pushing an open border agenda? Does anyone think that the GOP lost the election due to the immigration issue?

R.A.D. Dad
I don't think being a "Black Limbaugh" would be demeaning or condensending. Rush's audience is around 85% +/- white so a conservative who could hold that percent of the black voters would surely be a "Black Limbaugh". Or, how about calling Rush a "White Steele"? Or maybe they are a couple of Scottish Terriers on a Whiskey Ad.

Immigration Could Have Carried the 'Pubs
But Bush does not want to either curb illegal entry or go after employers who hire illegals so the Party suffers.

Bush lies to the American people about these illegals and does everything to divert attention away from these illegals and turns on his own party to obtain his goal of amnesty/citizenship for these illegals.

Folks in my part of the country are PIZZED about the way the president has mealy-mouthed on the illegal problem. I think it is probably that way a lot of places.

A strong stand up until almost the last minute could have saved the House and Iraq be damned.

Clyde9
What actions of McCain needed to be 'defended'?

No to McCain
I will never ever vote for McCain. And, if Bush pushes amnesty on the US, I'll let the libs impeach him. Condi, Steele, Gingrich, any of those three would be perfect.

Condi for President??? NO-O-O-O-O
Frankly I will not vote for any candidate who buys into the "Replacement Theology" garbage that God has replaced Israel with the church today. Main thing to recall is that God, our Heavenly Father God, the Creator God, is not one who ever takes back His Word---- He has a covenant with Israel--replacement theology says that He replaced them with 'Us'---a covenant is not easily broken. Look it up in your "Funk & Wagnall's"--...Seems to me that Mz Condi buys into this faulty thinking and it shows as she continually trots over there to tell Israel to keep giving up the land---the land that God gave to Israel, without condition!!! The real reason that George W. has lost favor and is in danger of being a viable anything, is that he too seems to buy into this. Each instance where he has forced Israel to concede, mounts up and he will go down in defeat. Do I want this???NO NO NO--but there is the point that if he does not listen to those who are crying out at the gate, for his attention, the bad days will just increase. Course, this does not only affect him--as you can plainly see, it affects us and puts into play these fearful demoncrats who are champing at the bit to bring down our country!!!!

McCain is so far gone as a viable candidate he is off the radar completely,
I too pray that somehow, somewhere, there will be a conservative Republican whom I can vote for. If not, then I would be forced to leave that slot un-voted for. Sad reality, but true.
I pray for us all.............

Where did you hear that?
elliea, where did you get information on Condi and "replacement theology"? I have never heard such things as you write.

Intended to refer to a spot for excellent coverage and opinion of the White House and the situations in DC.. Bill Koenig--White House Reporter has a site--- watch.org where he tells the latest. He explains how the very acts the administration takes against Israel show up in the downfall of George W.
Highly revealing and demonstrative of the connections is his book "Eye to Eye" by William Koenig. The newest edition has several updates. Worth reading.

TROUBLE WITH CONDI/IT HAST TO BE NEWT
THE TROUBLE WITH CONDI IS WE DON'T KNOW WHO SHE IS. SHE IS UNTESTED. POLITICS IS A SKILL AND I SEE NO EVIDENCE THAT SHE KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I ALWAYS WANT TO KNOW IF A CANDIDATE KNOWS HOW TO BE A TEAM MEMBER AND A TEAM LEADER. TEAM SPORTS ARE A GREAT INDICATOR. IF YOU HAVEN'T LEARNED THROUGH SPORTS TO BE A TEAM MEMBER YOU PROBABLY NEVER WILL LEARN. THAT’S WHERE WE DO IT. IN HER YOUNGER YEARS CONDI WAS A CONCERT PIANIST AND AN ICE SKATER. A LONER IN OTHER WORDS.

CONDI WAS GREAT AT SCHOOL AND SPENT A LONG LONG TIME IN SCHOOL. SO SHE IS AN ACCOMPLISHED SCHOOL GIRL. SHE READ A LOT OF BOOKS AND TALKED TO PEOPLE WHO READ A LOT OF BOOKS AND ON THAT BASIS ALONE PROBABLY THINKS SHE KNOWS A LOT ABOUT THE WORLD. SHE WAS GOOD AT IT OR AT LEAST SHE GOT GOOD GRADES FOR A LONG TIME. A LOT OF KIDS THESE DAYS ARE IN SOCCER, PIANO LESSONS, TENNIS CAMP AND ON AND ON. UNLIKE US, THEY NEVER HAVE TIME TO JUST HANG AND GET TO KNOW WHAT HUMAN BEINGS ARE. THAT IS KIND OF WHERE I THINK CONDI COMES FROM. SHE IS NOT LIKE ME AND VERY IMPORTANTLY, SHE HAS NO BACKGROUND IN BUSINESS. NO BACKGROUND OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL AND GOVERNMENT.

CONDI'S CLAIM TO FAME IS THIS. SHE IS A TOADY FOR PRESIDENT BUSH. I'M CALLING THEM THE WAY I SEE THEM. THE FIRST THING I THINK OF WHEN I HEAR CONDI'S NAME IS "PROPORTIONAL RESPONSE". CONDI HAS MADE SEVERAL COMMENTS COMPLIMENTING THE PEACE LOVING MEMBERS OF HAMAS. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF SHE SUPPORTS AFFIRMATIVE ACTION? I THINK PRESIDENT BUSH DOES. SO CONDI PROBABLY DOES TOO.

DICK MORRIS HAS BEEN THE ONE FLOATING THE CONDI CANDIDACY. THIS DELIGHTFUL GENTLEMAN ABSOLUTELY DESPISES HILLARY. AND IT IS A FASCINATING QUESTION. CONDI WOULD TAKE BLACK VOTES FROM DEMOS AND EVERY BLACK VOTE TAKEN EQUALS TWO. BUT WE REALLY NEED TESTED PEOPLE FOR THIS OFFICE. OUR TV SET IS JUST TOO OUT OF FOCUS ON CONDI. WE CAN'T AFFORD ANOTHER REPUBLICAN NUT IN OFFICE. AS THE TAMMANY HALL POLITICIAL GEORGE WASHINGTON PLUNKETT ONCE OPINED, "ONCE WE KICK THE DOG HOME, WE NEED TO KNOW WE'LL GET THE CABBAGE."

MY FRIENDS, NEWT IS ALL THAT'S LEFT. NEWT THE PHILANDERER. NEWT THE GREAT DEFENDER OF THE AMWAY PONZI SCHEME ($50,000 DONATION), NEWT THE DEFENDER OF HIS PAL JESSE JACKSON. IN A TRUER KINDER MORE COMPASSIONATE WORLD THERE WOULD CERTAINLY BE SOMEONE ELSE THAT WE COULD BELIEVE IN AND FIGHT FOR. BUT THIS IS THE WORLD WE GOT. GOD DEALS THE CARDS. TELL ME WHO ELSE IS THERE?

WHEN I HEAR THAT NEWT HAS BAGGAGE I SIMULTANEOUSLY HEAR THAT NEWT IS A KNOWN QUANTITY WARTS AND ALL. MORE THAN ANYONE ELSE NEWT GAVE US A CHANCE. HE GAVE CONSERVATIVES A CHANCE. HE IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT HAPPENED AFTER HE LEFT. HE IS CLEARLY AS SMART AS HE EVER WAS. I TRUST HIM OVER ALL OTHERS AS THE MAN WITH HIS FINGER NEXT TO THE NUCLEAR BUTTON. I TRUST HIM TO NOT PUSH THE BUTTON UNLESS IT IS NECESSARY. AND PERHAPS EVEN MORE IMPORTANT IN THESE TIMES. I TRUST HIM TO PUSH THE BUTTON IF OUR NATION'S WELL BEING REQUIRES IT.

NEWT IS OUR MAN. AND UNFORTUNATELY THERE IS NO ONE ELSE. IF ANY OF YOU FOLKS OUT THERE KNOW OF ANYONE ELSE. PLEASE TELL ME NOW.

Speak Up
I'm not sure who will be our best choice for President in 2008. I strongly suspect that the Republican leadership will give us more of the same if we don't speak up LOUDLY.

My Interpretation. . .
Novak says. . .
"President Bush's political advisers are urging Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele. . . "

This is some kind of oxymoron! These so called GOP political advisers advised so poorly. We got the results on 11/7/06! They should be called Political Saboteurs. Their advice should be listened to so that Michael can then do the opposite or something other than what they say. We keep blaming the politicians/elected personnel. The "villains" in this soap opera are the so called advisers and strategists. Thats who needs to be canned.

Novak says. . .
"The breakdown in discipline was reflected by a surprising number of senior House members among the 66 defectors. They included Reps. Pete Hoekstra, Intelligence Committee chairman; Duncan Hunter, Armed Services chairman; Joe Barton, Energy and Commerce chairman; and Bill Young, former Appropriations chairman -- all normally dependable in following the leadership."

This is not a breakdown in discipline, this is the Republican cream starting to rise to the top. (Ha! just as I predicted see Cautious Optimism at http://streetlevel.townhall.com ) These folks are breaking away from the Rino's. Sad to say our President is a Rino. We have to face that. The true Republicans will spend the next 2 years blocking and obstructing all bad legislation thats being pushed by Rino's and Dems. By the end of 2 years, hopefully, we'll have all of the scoundrels out of the RNC and some "winning" strategists in place. DD

I share your admiration for J.C.Watts. I've met him and supported him financially. He quit a very successful political career to make more money , is what i heard. This only makes me admire him more, but it would certainly be nice to have him back in the game. I'd vote for him any time, any office.

.....my dream ticket...Newt/Romney in '08.....COLOSSUS

Steele could replace a certain
unnamed radio talk show host I know of who contributes to liberal causes.

It would save the effort of changing the channel after Hugh Hewitt goes off the air in the Los Angeles area.

...and I want to take this opportunitely to shamelessly plug my newest post on my blog called "Lefties Use Babies as Political Footballs…Again."

It is all about Lefties Gone Wild.

Chafee's betrayal?
That's a good one. How could Chafee betray Bush when he never supported him in the first place. Chafee merely played Bush for the fool just like Arlen Specter did. For reasons that are still inexplicable to me, these left-wing GOP senators were able to rely on the naive sellouts in the White House to neutralize their conservative primary threats, all the while promising nothing in return, other than to keep doing things the way they always had. I knew when Bush's bully-boys put the knife in Toomey's back that the Bush team lacked not only honor but political sense. For them to have seriously considered the likes of Specter and Chafee to be the salvation of the GOP speaks volumes about their political competence. Steele would do well to steer well clear of any association with the Bush White House, if he has any aspirations for higher office.

What actions of McCain needed to be 'defended'?

I defend his actions as a prisoner of war, and I emphasize "only" as a prisoner of war. As a politican, I am no fan of John McCain.

Among other things, he has been called a traitor and a hero to the North Vietnamese with a statue in his honor.

These is a plaque regarding John McCain, but it praises the NVN who shot him down -- not John McCain -- and can't even get his service branch correct. He was Navy, the plaque said Air Force.

Did he talk? Yes, as well as all other POWs, yet he and virtually every other POW resisted to the best of their ability, according to the Code of Conduct. There were a few who towards the end of the war did cooperate with the NVN, but John McCain is not one of those.

One method of torture seems to me to be impossible to resist. The NVN would lay the POW on his stomach and tie his feet together, then tie his arms together at the wrists behind his back. Then they would take a long piece of rope and wrap it around his arms pulling his elbows closer together and continue this until the elbows were tied together. (Try touching your elbows behind your back) Then the remainder of the rope would be thrown over a beam and the body lifted up and tied to the man's legs. They would let him hang until he agreed to talk -- or whatever the NVN wanted him to do.

To put it simply, John McCain and the vast majority of American prisoners of war in NVN did nothing to be ashamed of.

steele speaking out
I would definitely vote for Steele/Powell/Rice to run the executive
branch of our country. We need true-to-
heart black leadership instead of black democrats who are paid
by white democrats to incite racism, invoke false hysteria, and run to rob their own people blind. Republicans have always supported civil rights, equality and justice while Dems take the credit.
