Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

WASHINGTON -- Republican-oriented tax lobbyists are interpreting late campaign solicitations as a requirement for a ticket to enter the office of Rep. Charles Rangel as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee in a Democratic-controlled House.

Both freelance and corporate lobbyists have received telephone solicitations for Rangel's leadership PAC (political action committee), which distributes funds to Democratic congressional candidates who need them. Rangel is virtually unopposed in his Harlem district. The lobbyists, who give almost exclusively to Republicans, are told that the contribution would be "a nice gesture for Charlie."

Rangel issued a statement that in his 42 years of state and federal legislative office, "campaign contributions have never been required or even suggested as a way to get access to me."

FOLEY SCANDAL VICTIM

A Republican campaign operative with a reputation for accuracy has put Rep. Tom Reynolds, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, on the list of incumbent Republicans who are "gone" -- that is, sure to lose their seats on Nov. 7.

Reynolds's prominence as a Republican leader who was responsible for handling Rep. Mark Foley of Florida has dropped him 15 points below his Democratic opponent in his supposedly safe upstate New York district, according to a poll taken by John Zogby after the scandal broke.

Reynolds was slumping even before the Foley affair made news. Republicans and Democrats alike try to pick their campaign chairmen from House members who do not have to defend their own seats in Congress. However, industrialist Jack Davis, a self-financed former Republican, is running a vigorous campaign against Reynolds in his second try at defeating him.

AMBASSADOR HASTERT?

A question asked on Capitol Hill is whether the Mark Foley scandal will kill House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert's longtime ambition to be named U.S. ambassador to Japan.

Even if Republicans retain control of the House this year, Hastert is considered unlikely to get a fifth term as speaker. Hastert as a young man was a summer English-language teacher in Japan and would like to return as his nation's diplomatic representative. What is in doubt is whether the Foley scandal casts a cloud over his confirmation.

A footnote: Republican contributors in Washington were surprised Tuesday to receive an invitation from Hastert for a Thursday night $2,000-a-plate fund-raising dinner for Colorado State Sen. Doug Lamborn, who is running for a Republican-held congressional seat contested by Democrats. The GOP faithful were ready to show up at Charlie Palmer's Steakhouse in Washington to show solidarity for the embattled speaker only to learn that Hastert would not be there himself.

ADULT-CHILD SEX

The House page scandal has prompted Republicans to bring up the 1999 decision by Rep. Ted Strickland, this year's Democratic candidate for governor of Ohio, to abstain from a House resolution condemning an American Psychological Association (APA) study that said adult-child sex could be good for children.

Strickland is considered an ideological moderate but, as a psychologist, he joined 12 left-wing Democratic House members in not voting on the resolution. The final roll call was 355 in favor and 13 voting "present." Strickland assailed the House for voting to "condemn a scientific study." The APA later withdrew the study.

The latest poll shows Strickland leading Republican Secretary of State Ken Blackwell by 13 percent in the race for governor.

RUDY'S BURDEN

Prominent Republican insiders say that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani's presidential ambitions have sustained a blow because of his secondhand relationship to controversy involving Jeanine Pirro, the Republican candidate for attorney general of New York.

Pirro hired Bernard Kerik, Giuliani's friend and former police commissioner, to eavesdrop on her wayward husband. As Westchester County district attorney, in 2004, she hired the Giuliani-Kerik firm.

Giuliani leads national polls of Republican presidential possibilities and has indicated interest in making a run for the White House in 2008. Republicans feel Giuliani's connection with Kerik may be one piece of baggage too many for the mayor to carry nationally.

Gonna miss ya Charlie
Not really. Buh bye.

One of the
most frustrating things about the potential loss of the House to the dems on November 7th is that people like Charlie Rangel will chair vital House committees.

Rangel never saw a tax he couldn't embrace, and as the new chair of the House, Ways, and Means Committee he'll connive six ways to Sunday to get his hand in our pockets. Looks like I'll have to find some shady off-shore arrangement to hide my money - just like Michael Moore and George Soros.

giuliani's 08 plans
Novak must be "salting the mine" by indicating that an 06 JP domestic spy case would undermine a national run by Giuliani in 08. Look for Novak to try to kill Giuliani by "death by 1000 cuts" the little by little undermining over the next year. Nobody cares about JP or her husband.

Rudy the moderate
Rudy--sure he's a great manager and tough on crime--like there isn't a conservative who can also claim these traits? Rudy would chuck conservative principles out the window as soon as he needed his pet agenda to get passed.
No way on him--you can lump him in with the Clintons-McCain and whoever else is a liberal appeaser.
Rangel--sure he's already counting on his coming committee chair. So why wouldn't he be taking bribes so soon?
Hastert--he needs to go on a diet if he's going to be on TV--I think that's the enemies strategy. They just want even more Hastert to show his big blobby bespectacled face on the tube as much as possible. Who wants him to be the face of the Republican party? Democrats do it would seem. We are stuck with the poor guy though until after the election.
And the thing I heard about Reynolds was that he didn't come thru with jobs and money for the depressed upstate NY area--I do not believe people are that dumb to fall for October surprises anymore when 99% of them turn out to be MSM fantasies.

Reynolds as Collateral Damage
There are lessons to be learned:
1. Ethical standards must be adherred to. Exceptions for political expediency are short sighted and ultimately result in self-inflicted wounds.
2. The left will use any issue to discredit Republicans and conservatives no matter how hypocritical. Fortunately for the Democrats, the MSM and Republicans themselves have kept this story alive. Pelosi and Company only need to throw out a word here and there.
3. Welcome to the "Republican Big Tent." Compromising ethics for money and power will always exact a price.

(I am not saying Reynolds is guilty of anything)

Giuliani: No way do I vote for him
I even have an essay on my blog "Rudy?...For President?" detailing why.

If the Rep party wants to turn into Dem-Lite, they can do it without my help.

Babbling Charlie Rangel
If the Democrats take over in November Charlie Rangel will be the chairman of the Ways and Means committee. Is it better or worst for the Republicans. Of course when the Democrats win anything Americans lose in the long run. Has anyone wondered why theres a Black Caucus in the Democratic Party. Why should there be a Black Caucus at all. I thought the Democratic Party was one of equality. Has Charlie seen any of this equality the Democrats preach so much about in the streets, in the neighborhoods, and in the churches. Charlie knows what he got himself into when he got to Washinton. He put those bonds on himself freely. So did every member of the Black Caucus. He even went on Conservative talk shows and made a complete fool of himself and did so with an eagerness to please the Democratic Party. Charlie didn't care about his self respect or the impressions he made on other blacks. In his mind he was doing it for the Democratic Party. If Charlie does become the chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, in his mind he will be the first black President and not Bill Clinton. Charlie will then change the color of the Democratic Party forever. There won't be a White Democratic Party and the Black Caucus. It will be the Party the Democrats have told Americans for years they are. Becoming chairman is Charlie's chance to get off the plantation without the Democrats coming after him like they've done so many others and destroying them. The Democrats talk a good talk when it comes to fooling the blacks, because they use that one word which keeps those bonds on the blacks who vote for them. Racism. Charlie Rangel knows this, every member of the Black Caucus knows this. Becoming chairman is more for Charlie's regaining his self respect which he lost in his quest for love from the White Democratic Party. When Charlie speaks you can see and hear what the Democratic Party has made of him. If the Democrats win in November, their going to get exactly what they deserve, a Charlie Rangel without the bonds, no more plantation black and no more house boy of the Democrats. You won't get any donations from me Charlie.

Oh my
I can't be live Charlie Rangel would be soliciting bribes before it is a sure thing.

Oh they aren't bribes. They are tickets to get in the door, then he wants real money.

Jack ABSCAM Murtha, you wish you could do it like old Charlie don't ya?

I can't believe Mr. Novak would dare bring up a democrat, Strickland's support for pedophilia. I though it is only republicans who engage in or support child sex.

Oh my, It's just out, Gerry Stubbs D-MA has just died. To bad he is like Mary Jo, "unavailable for comment", about democrat sex scandals.

I think Charlie's office is next to William "Dollar Bill" Jefferson D-LA's office. Maybe Harry Reid D-NV has some real estate for sale?

As conservative as Hillary
Despite his many admirable qualities, Rudy Giuliani is a New Yorker through and through. His republicanism is more Rockefeller than Reagan. I believe he endorsed Al Gore in 2000.
He's good on talk shows and will be a good campaigner. Maybe his best bet is to stay out of the race and be tapped for the VEEP slot. The first Bush was able to win the nomination by serving as Reagan's VP and getting his support eight years later. Maybe Rudy should follow that script. The GOP rewards loyalty, which Rudy hasn't quite demonstrated to many conservatives' satisfaction.

Who do we vote for?
So far I haven't heard any names that get my attention. I certainly hope that changes in the next year.
