The Need for the RNC

Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

As a National Committeeman for the past 17 years, I can attest that there has been more public attention paid to the election of the next Chairman of the Republican National Committee than I have ever seen. And I think that’s a good thing.

This week, all the candidates, including myself, have been answering questions and presenting our plans for the future. We’ve had a public debate covering questions from all across the country and meetings where RNC Members raised specific issues. It has been an incredibly positive dialogue and sends a clear signal that there is no shortage of ideas and excitement within the GOP.

As I shared at the debate on Monday and with RNC Members all week, the question to RNC Members when they cast their vote at the end of January is not whether we need to make significant changes. We do. Some changes are needed because we no longer have a Republican President and other changes are necessary to improve our performance and win elections.

However, the real question is who has the experience, the knowledge, and the judgment to assure that we don’t make changes just for the sake of change. We need to have a higher standard than just shifting how we do things. We need to be smart and we need to get it right.

The very first step in moving forward is increasing the role that my fellow RNC Members play in planning our future and making sure that our plans are executed. Having served on the RNC when there is a Republican President and when there isn’t, I know firsthand that one of the keys to our success is empowering our members.

Next, we must earn back the trust of the entire public that we truly are the national conservative party. We’ll do this by regaining our mantle as “the Party of Ideas,” just as we did in 1977 and again in 1993. My idea initiative, The Center for Republican Renewal, will work with Republican elected officials and activists at all levels across the country to identify and promote public policies that advance the Republican Party’s core principles and sound governance. We’re not going to just say “no” to liberal proposals - - we’re going to offer the public better, conservative solutions.

With the power of our ideas, the Republican Party will engage in thoughtful discussion with individuals in every corner, island, and territory of our country. Coalition building will be a full time, intensive, and deliberate effort as we grow our Party. As we build our winning coalition, we will follow Ronald Reagan’s maxim that someone who agrees with me 80 percent of the time is not my 20 percent enemy. That person is my ally and my friend. We will be bold in asserting our principles while recognizing that a winning coalition requires broader participation than just our traditional base. We must grow our Party through the power of new ideas that emanate from our core principles.

We also will work with every State Party to have all the necessary plans and personnel in place to win elections. With the guidance and involvement of my fellow RNC Members, my Partnership 2010 initiative will place dedicated staff in every State and for the Territories, to focus on Victory plans, voter registration, and candidate recruitment. We will have the right people with the right skills working in each State and the Territories planning for Republican victories.

As I stated before, when we make the change, we must make the right change. That means not throwing out the baby with the bath. A lot went wrong in 2008, but we did not lose due to a lack of financial resources. An amazing team effort set a new record in RNC fundraising ($400 million) and number of donors (1.9 million) over the past two years. For the first time ever, our online fundraising surpassed our phone programs. I’ve outlined a fundraising plan that grows this opportunity as well as others.

Finally, we need to assure that we are conducting all our activities, most especially communications, using state-of-the-art technology. I’m proud that this RNC had the vision to move past beltway consultants and hire the best technologists from outside of Washington, D.C. In the next two years, we’ll be putting our money where our mouth is in our commitment to innovation and technology. We’ll also move to open source technology platforms that will allow every tech-savvy Republican to contribute their know-how to our success.

Over the past two years, I loyally and faithfully served, just as any Republican would do if asked by our President to assume a position of leadership. I make no apologies for my service because, in my family, loyalty is not a character flaw. But this election is not about the past, this election is about the future.

As we have seen this week, the future of the Republican Party is bright. As the National Committeeman from Kentucky who is running for RNC Chairman, I believe I have the experience and the judgment necessary to lead the RNC into a new era as the Republican Party again becomes the conservative, majority party that America deserves.

but FIRST and FOREMOST.....stand on PRINCIPLE and rid the party of RINOS.....they dilute true conservatism...and stop kissing a$$ with the libtoid Demo-thugs...their agenda will ruin this nation....and another thing....ADHERE to the Law of the land...the U.S Constitution....and this MEANS in your spending.....

No more pandering to the special interests or lobbyists..if this S--t keeps up...we're going to be in a sinking ship real quick. Da-- it, grow a set of courage, and stick up for the people in this nation.....

Everytime you reach across the aisles to Democrats....you get your noses bloodied politically.....Can't you realize that Democrats DESPISE anything conservative?

AND ONE LAST ISSUE:

ALL REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES CAN ONLY BE VOTED IN BY REGISTERED REPUBLICANS.....NO MORE DEMOCRAT OR INDEPENDENT CROSSOVERS.....THIS CRUD GAVE US MCCAIN LAST TIME....AND YOU SEE WHAT FRIGGIN HAPPENED....SO STOP THE DUMBS--T!

please respond
Mr. Chairman I write to you as but an ordinary citizen who of late has become concerned, greatly concerned about the decline in our government, and need to know what the intent of this Party is, and please bear with me in this letter as I attempt to get something of what I see as being very improtant across. I say this because in looking at the 2008 platform it appears schizophrenic in statements contained therein. To wit;Republicans will uphold and defend our party’s core principles: Constrain the federal government to its legitimate constitutional functions. Yet, you also have this"The job of modernizing Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid calls for bipartisanship, not political posturing. Now knowing that I lack any credentials that would carry weight, and am not a man of any importance, influence or any such, I am inserting something from Thomas Jefferson, a link actually

http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/bank-tj.asp

to his opinion on a national bank. Sir please contrast that to your statement on bipartisanship above. I merely ask you to reconcile this statements, No, I lie; I also ask you to consider whether or not this is why many are either withering in their support of this Party, or will not support it at all. To also consider, will this Party have the integrity to stand firm in seeking Constitutionality regardless. As one who is hoping for better things in the realm of governance, I thank you for any time and consideration you give me here.

School choice now!
If this party cannot stand for, and deliver, real school choice in 4 years, I and my entire extended family in 4 states, will bolt and never come back. This party is curtrently a disgace. Completely indistinguishable from the moderate and liberal Democrats. It is slightly better than the kooky, commie left, but,........c'mon! Are you kidding with this recent effort?

When McCain crosses the aisle this time. Tell him to stay there. What a disgrace!

No Need for the RNC
There is no need for the RNC. It's irrelevant. The GOP is a bunch of inept cowards, sellouts, perverts and communist appeasers. The RNC and the GOP need to be eliminated and I don't care how.

Why join and work for a party with no principles, no honor, without the will to win? Even with the monopoly we gave them twice they were too fearful to govern.

Anyone who joins or supports the GOP is wasting their time. How many times do you have to be fooled by these jellyfish cowards before you wake up and realize it's pointless to support them?

Non-communists have no option at this time. America will have to suffer a real economic and military disaster before its stupid citizens get their minds right and decide they've had enough of the one party with two names.

I refuse to have anything to do with the GOP or its candidates. I'll vote for local issues but will ignore choices for elective office other than those that have an A rating with the NRA, regardless of party.

F the RNC and the GOP. Drop dead you rats.

Dear Mr. Duncan
I like your ideas, but unfortunately, you are part of the old bath water that has to go.

The demise of the RNC happened under your watch. You must accept responsibility for this, which for me is a conservative creed.

Further, the RNC at EVERY level has been infested with liberal party people, who push anti-social or anti-fiscal conservatives down the throats of your own constituents, I know! I live in Lake county Illinois.

I've seen what has happened to our County and the State GOP, it ain't pretty.

I appreciate your service sir, but you did not hold your water. In fact, during a time of political arrogance and elitism, your very desire to "stay on" as Chairman, typifies why you need to go.

Creator of Dear Mr. Obama.

duncan is out of touch
As long as Republicans continue to put up weak candidates like both Bushes and McShame, there is no hope for this party. If you want my vote, become the party of opposition and confrontation instead of the party of accomodation.

Duncan, you've got to go, you pompous loser.

I agree with Michael
no one who has presided over a disaster like we just witnessed should even have the "audacity" to run for re-election.

Content anyone?
I just read this article, and while a superficial reading makes it sound very nice and encouraging, it is actually very vague. "Conservative ideals" sounds good, but without a definition behind it, the words are meaningless. McCain did not promote conservative ideals. Bush did not promote conservative ideals. Having organization in place does not put a compelling message in place. Duncan might as well have pasted the words to "We Shall Overcome" in place of this tripe and said about the same thing.

Need for the RNC
Mr. Duncan,

Yes, we need an RNC, just not one headed by the likes of you.

Were you an honorable man, you would immediately resign as RNC Chariman and stop your campaign to pursue re-election to the post.

After your disasterous leadership into the world of Democrat LITE and RINO policies, the Republican Party suffered embarrassing, but deserved, defeats on EVERY FRONT.

Do all of us a favor. Go into the sunset, quietly.

The real problem...
I am saddened to see that the Republican Party leaders still don't "get it". Were you guys sleeping during the last election? Did you somehow miss it that millions of people, normally disinterested in politics, took an active part in electing Obama? I am a republican but I am saddened by the elitist attitudes of the party leadership. Write a letter to a republican elected official and a democrat at the same time. The Democrat will respond and the Republican won't. You see, once they are elected, the only time they need you is if you can send a check. I'm not wrong about this..Kennedy, Kerry and Frank could get re-elected if they were dead rats... because they are incredibly responsive to their constituents, and that makes the constituents loyal. Obama was smart, he made people feel like they would have an important part in his presidency... he made everyone feel that way, not just those bearing big checks. Maybe you guys should think about that before we all decide that we don't have time for you either.

RNC Chairman
Mr. Duncan and Mr Saltzman, should have had the dedication necessary to head the RNC, and not have even considered running for the position.
Having watched the candidates debate and taking notes, two things were evident everyone agreed the old way didn't work and more diversity was needed.
Mr Duncan is the old way, and Mr Saltsman is out of touch with everyone.
I personally like Michael Steel. He gave the best speech at the convention, he gave a great speech at the "Take back our State Rally" and he has the ability to connect with the individual. Not to mntion he had the best ideas.
Call, write, email those voting and let your wishes be known---today before the election

You've Got to be Kidding
This was the biggest defeat for the Republicans that I can recall in my 30 year voting history. Why in the world would we want the person currently in charge of the RNC continue? Get some new blood more up with the times, maybe someone who will listen the the Republican voters. McCain was a fiasco and most of us conservatices saw it coming.

Duncan Must Transcend Political Speeches
I tried to read Duncan's article with an open mind and give him every benefit of the doubt, but all he gave were the tired cliches one finds in those dreadful Republican fundraising letters, which ask your opinion about various issues and then ignore all the responses (except for cashing the checks). Duncan appears too fearful to say anything of specific substance, but at the same time he calls for ideas from Republicans. I hope he read the thoughtful letters on this post, and I add a few more thoughts for him to consider:
1. Republicans are sick of their leadership advocating amnesty for illegal aliens and being called racist intolerant by the Party elite for oppoosing the free ride and bankrupting effect of the invasion of the 12-20 million illegals in this country, who get to break the law without consequence, because of their race.
2. The out-of-control spending by the Republican Congress has not been addressed. To start, I suggest Duncan promote legislation that would immediately rescind and call back the agricultural subsidies, Medicare entitlement increases, earmarks, Congressional pay raise, benefits for illegal aliens and the $50 billion Congress recently sent to Africa as foreign aid.
3. The Republican Party would stand out by calling for the attachment and confiscation of all property of those who drove the financial collapses in this country, including CEOs and Congress members who allowed the situation to develop.
Posting a standard campaign speech on a conservative Web site will not help anyone's cause in this political climate, nor will it save anyone's job.

2008 wasn't Enough
Duncan get out of the race or I will gladly help us lose in 2010.

You want us to lose so much so I will help. You are too stupid to understand my polite letter, so you better drop out now.
