Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Well, don’t say she hasn’t been warned.

Sarah Palin cannot make even one mistake in Thursday’s debate or she will be cooked.

George Stephanopoulos said so Monday on ABC’s Good Morning America:

Picking up on what Kevin Madden said in David Wright’s piece: Number one for Sarah Palin, she cannot make a mistake. A major mistake particularly on foreign policy would be absolutely fatal to her candidacy.

Good Morning America, like NBC’s Today Show and CBS’ The Early Show, played clips of Tina Fey doing her mocking impersonation of Palin on Saturday Night Live. When did comic impersonations become news?

And what about Palin’s opponent, Joe Biden? What if he makes a gaffe, as he is wont to do? Last week, Biden said in a speech that, “When the stock market crashed, Franklin D. Roosevelt got on the television” to calm the nation. The stock market crashed in 1929, before TV and before Roosevelt was president.

No problem. The liberal media have Joe’s back and won’t make a big deal of it. Palin made no notable errors last week, yet she was still the one to be savaged. It’s a pity Saturday Night Live can’t remove their ideological blinders. What a great skit Biden might have inspired! Imagine Bill Murray coming back to portray Biden: “It’s just like when George Washington climbed up on a tank to rally the troops at Gettysburg…”

Back to reality. During Thursday’s debate, the press will be listening so hard for a Palin version of “macaca” that they probably won’t even hear what Joe has to say.

“Macaca” was the word that helped sink the re-election campaign of Virginia Republican Sen. George Allen in 2006. He had used the word, which means “monkey” in some African nations, jokingly to describe a Democratic operative tracking his campaign events. Allen said his mother used to call him that when he messed up, the equivalent of “rascal.” No matter. The media decided that because the Democratic staffer was of Indian ancestry, macaca was an openly racist term, just the thing a sitting U.S. Senator would say in a racially diverse state like Virginia. The Washington Post in particular beat up Allen with macaca for the next month, using the term dozens of times. Allen never recovered and Jim Webb narrowly won his Senate seat.

Here’s the rule of thumb:. When a liberal misspeaks, it’s a slip of the tongue. We all make mistakes. If you are a conservative, however, you commit an unforgiveable sin that must be revisited a thousand times until you are out of Purgatory – or office, whichever comes first.

On Friday, Barack Obama made two mistakes that the media would have used to crucify McCain had he made similar errors.

First, Obama misstated that Henry Kissinger would support meeting enemies like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad without preconditions. Even when McCain corrected him, Obama repeated the point. Immediately after the debate, Kissinger issued a statement that rebutted Obama in no uncertain terms. Gotcha! The media’s reaction? Snore. Bury that sucker in reams of copy.

Another suitable moment for carving into a media bat came after John McCain showed his metal bracelet worn in memory of Cpl. Matthew Stanley, who was killed in Iraq. Obama noted that he, too, wore a bracelet for a fallen soldier. Then he forgot the name of Sgt. Ryan David Jopek and had to look down and read it.

It’s not awful, and could happen to anyone, but can anyone honestly imagine that the media would have ignored this had McCain been the forgetful one? Another wrinkle: Jopek’s mother, an Obama supporter who had given him the bracelet, had e-mailed the Obama campaign and asked Obama not to use her son’s name in either speeches or debates. As Newsbusters’ Warner Todd Huston reported, the AP said Sunday that she had, indeed, asked him not to do this, but had been okay with how Obama presented it during the televised debate. Again, imagine what the media would have done had McCain been asked by a parent not to invoke a deceased son’s name and then done so?

CMI just released a new special report, ‘Character’ the Most Important Issue in the Presidential Primary Debates. One striking finding was that the media asked the Democrats nearly twice as many “softball” questions as they asked Republicans. Republicans got 25 percent softballs, Democrats 48 percent.

Being a liberal in a political campaign is a bit like being a cornerback in a fixed football game. He can take cheap shots at receivers all day, knowing the referees will never call him on it. On the other side of the ball, the quarterback can throw all bombs he wants, knowing that if one is picked off, the refs will find a way to nullify the play.

Keep in mind that the moderator for Thursday’s debate is PBS’s Gwen Ifill, who has just written a pro-Obama book, The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. As Michelle Malkin notes on her Website, the book’s promo says Ifill is “introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.”

Meanwhile the scribes are sharpening their poison pens and polishing their gun sights, otherwise known as cameras. They’ll be ready to draw more blood from Mrs. Palin than a bite from an Alaskan mosquito.

As for Joe, he can take comfort in the knowledge that his next gaffe won’t have a long shelf life, and that he can sit back, Biden his time.

this is real cute
Gwen Ifill's Vice Presidential Debate Questions

* Is it smart for a mother to abandon her young children and jet around the country with an older, married man?

* When field dressing a moose, you bleed it, break the bones, slice it, then gut it? Gov. Palin, how would that experience guide your Social Security policy?

* Joe, when you talk to Barack, does he ever mention me?

* Yes, I've written an inaugurational book titled "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama." But to be fair, I've also written one to be released if Obama loses — "The Breakdown: Politics and Race in the Age of a Cancer-Splotched Crank and a Stupid Moose-Hunting Whore." Too subtle?

* Should taxes be doubled or tripled? And, what about the second year?

* Gov. Palin, please briefly explain how Quantum Chromodynamics give rise to the physics of nuclei and nuclear constituents. And Sen. Biden, in response, what's your favorite color?

* So what salary range is Obama considering for his White House press secretary? Full medical/dental, I assume?

* Time for audience questions. Remember to limit the subjects to Delaware history, Washington cocktail parties and male pattern baldness.

"Macaca"
Sorry Sparky, et al. "Macaca" really just means "chickensh*t". It comes from the Battle of the Boyne, when the Irish Pretender was several miles back from the actual battle. In other words, he was such a chickensh*t that he couldn't even bother to be present at the battle for his own crown! From then on, everyone referred to him as "King Macaca".

It never had anything to do with race.

The Fountainhead
by Ayn Rand.

Ever read it? If so, you will recognize Ellsworth Toohey and his media influence.

Manipulating public opinion, all done in the name of caring for the people, and making the big, bad individualists look bad.

Same pattern in reality. MSM screaming long enough and loud enough and the sheeple start to believe them.

This time, if Obama wins, we won't get the government we need, but the one that stupidity deserves.

Tina "Traitor" Fey
FYI

The reasons Fey's impersonations are so funny is because she uses Palin's language verbatim.

Palin's statements are so surreal, they COULD be written by the SNL staff. That's what makes the skit funny; collectively we can't believe what is being foisted off on us.

Problem is McCain's judgement
Before the eve of the GOP convention, undecideds were looking forward to choosing along themes developed by both campaigns: experience (GOP) and change (Dems). McCain had the added fact that the current admin is GOP and that he has a record of being independent. For McCain, he had to convince people that experience is the most important consideration. Add to McCain the fact that he called social right wingers of his party 'agents of intolerance' in 2000, and he had a historical basis for being considered a true maverick, one that would appeal to undecided independents. He would simply attack Obama as not experienced enough.

For Obama, the theme of change needed to resonate most with voters. He needed to prove himself to be 'presidential.' He would attack McCain as being 'another four years' of Bush. Thus, the next President of the USA would be determined along how people felt about the above arguments.

Then came the gap between the two conventions.

In choosing Palin, McCain diminished his credentials of a true Maverick by choosing someone who would be the champion of those same 'agents of intolerance' that he derided in 2000. By choosing Palin McCain brings "Experience" to the forefront of every undecided voters thoughts while at the same time destroying any advantage in this area. With one pick, he destroyed his chances with undecideds.

Gotcha?
So right, all night, Ifil Good!

/sung to the tune of James Brown's "I feel Good" (goodness you people are square)

When the experience is against you, pound the personality.

When the personality is against you, pound the experience.

When the personality and experience are against you, pound the moderator.

McCain agreed to Ifil. The sudden flack is more smoke and mirrors from the Rove Wisdom Foundation has has served the McCain Campaign so well this year. Don't think Obama won't be sending you guys a wreath this year! Your efforts have been outstanding!

P.S. How is "What magazines do you read a 'Gotcha' question? There's quite a bit of intellectual dishonesty going on over on the far right. "Quick! Who's the Prime Minister of Bahrain?" That would have been 'Gotcha' Journalism?

Obama was kidding about saying...
he has been to 57 states!...he was trying to emphasize how much he has traveled all over America...whoever thinks he was serious is really IGNORANT AND STUPID!!!

Give me a break!
I can't believe anyone is excusing Palin's gaffes and trying to compare them to Biden's. They're not one in the same. Try all you like, you cannot justify the answers Palin gave to Couric. She is not prepared to be on the national stage. All she did was lower the bar so low that if she gives a performance that rivals Perot's runningmate, Jim Stockdale, she will look brilliant. Good ploy, but too late.

She's been locked in seclusion, and she's simply not trusted.

As for you, Kathy. How can you claim that God is with McCain and Palin? Heretic.

Robert you lie a lot
Ifill had been selected for months - even before Palon was selected and her book had been publicized since JULY and both camps agreed to her (obviously)...
and the dead soldier's mother was "ecstatic" and "honored" when Obama mentioned her son's name...
dude, stop misinforming people...

"REAL" issues
MKS wrote:

"Until legalized abortion on demand follows the same path into American history that slavery did, it will be a REAL issue to me. I trust it will be so to hundreds of millions of others."

Since there are only three hundred (and one) million Americans and every study ever done on the subject has found that the hard-line pro-lifers comprise only a tiny majority of the populace, I think you meant "hundreds."

terrible analysis
"Republicans got 25 percent softballs, Democrats 48 percent."

These were in different debates with different moderators - it would be a problem if Democrats had been debating Republicans. This is the type of garbage analysis that even Palin is above.

Biden makes normal people gaffes.
Biden makes normal people gaffes. Palin rambles on like a Tard.

And even when she is marginally coherent; she sounds like she running to be VP of the Talian and their ‘Allah created the Earth 6,000 years ago’ platform.

REAL Issues
The REAL issues are whatever the most voters say they are; not what any individual or media outlet asserts them to be.

Until legalized abortion on demand follows the same path into American history that slavery did, it will be a REAL issue to me. I trust it will be so to hundreds of millions of others.

Wolfgang missing the target
Wolfgang writes: "McCain chose her for one reason - to reawaken the so-called "culture wars" (which she has done) so the Republicans could avoid dealing with the REAL issues of the economy, foreign policy and corruption in business and government."

How do you figure when Sen McCain in large part chose her because of her reputation in Alaska for fighting Gov corruption? That is how she made her reputation on the state level. Also she has detailed knowledge of energy independance and energy both oil and natural gas production. Sen McCain himself has a reputation of fighting for all the things you mentioned at the national level.

Now you might not agree with Sen McCain and Gov Palin on issues of economy, Energy independance, foreign affairs, pro gun ownership and 2nd amendment, pro-life etc, but to claim they are hidding from those issues is completely foolish.

You also mentioned corruption in business and don't forget Sen McCain called for possible jail time for CEO's of Fannie and Freddie and Sen Obama has them as key advisors.

Nice try Wolfgang but Conservatives won't let that lie fly.

Policy Positions, texaschuck

Yeah he makes gaffee's but he is a known quantity and been in on a lot of major policy decisions and is a regular TV guest"

The problem isn't the gaffs Biden makes, although they are funny, it is the Policy Positions he takes.

Unfortunately the gaffs and SNL skits may be what sway some undecided voters but it is POLICY Positions that matter.

Sen Biden made many more foreign policy votes then Gov Palin. He didn't make "decisions" in the sense that he was not an executive and just one voice among 100. he just decided which way he would vote.

The problem as Renny at 9:49PM post points out is which way Sen Biden voted on those Positions.
All votes that Conservatives disagree with on SUBSTANCE.

As an EXECUTIVE Gov Palin made decisions to slash costs and cut waste where she could. Like any executive cleaning house she couldn't get every scarp of dirty up, but she definatly is headed in the right direction.

Then a look at her VALUES, and actions, suggest where we think she will decide on the vital foreign policy issues IF she should become President.

Crowds
To Crytal: LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obama pulled a crowd of 80,000 in Oregon and 200,000 overseas. His average is about 23,000 at his rallies. Palin/Mccain have been taken to task for overstating their crowds but EVEN THEY have not alleged a crowd of 60,000. According to city records in various jurisdictions, Palin's crowds are usually about 10,000-- so you used the old trick of stealing the other side's figures. Even funnier, before Palin, Repubs were so jealous of Obama's crowds, you told the lie that he offered "free food and free concerts" to attract the massive crowds. Now you're inflating your numbers and are suddenly 'proud' of drawing a big audience. Hypocrisy-- maybe. Another point: How pathetic is mccain that he has to campaign with Palin at all times in order to draw a crowd of more than 300? Reputable news outlets have reported that people start leaving after palin gives her "canned" speeches and mccain takes the stage. Pretty pathetic.

Get a life
So any criticism of Bambi Moosekiller is per se unfair, eh? You fringe right-wingers are really something else. The woman makes Dan Quayle look like Lincoln, Washington and FDR rolled into one. She's demonstrated in the few interviews given a provincial ignorance and capacity for avoiding giving a straight answer that is frightening. McCain chose her for one reason - to reawaken the so-called "culture wars" (which she has done) so the Republicans could avoid dealing with the REAL issues of the economy, foreign policy and corruption in business and government. Karl rove at his best - and the Floyd Turbo crowd has bought into it hook, line and sinker. Palin's supporters elevate mediocrity to something that is to be paraded around like a medal. all you've done is give a lot of worried Americans a real bad case of stomach gas.

Proof of Ifill's book
Ms Ifill may do a fine job of Moderating the debate. I recently reread her transcript from a 2004 VP debate with VP Cheyney and Sen Edwards and her debate moderation was fair, balenced, and Professional in my opinion.

However, to say her upcomming book is not Pro-Obama is just deceitful. Anyone with a brain who reads the books Promo knows it is Pro-Obama.

This is the Promo from the NPR website:
This is how the publisher describes the book:

In THE BREAKTHROUGH, veteran journalist Gwen Ifill surveys the American political landscape, shedding new light on the impact of Barack Obama's stunning presidential campaign and introducing the emerging young African American politicians forging a bold new path to political power.

Ifill argues that the Black political structure formed during the Civil Rights movement is giving way to a generation of men and women who are the direct beneficiaries of the struggles of the 1960s. She offers incisive, detailed profiles of such prominent leaders as Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, and U.S. Congressman Artur Davis of Alabama, and also covers up-and-coming figures from across the nation. Drawing on interviews with power brokers like Senator Obama, former Secretary of State Colin Powell, Vernon Jordan, the Reverend Jesse Jackson, and many others, as well as her own razor-sharp observations and analysis of such issues as generational conflict and the "black enough" conundrum, Ifill shows why this is a pivotal moment in American history.

Now it is beyond reasonable to argue that she doesn't stand to make a lot of Money if Sen Obama wins, or to suggest she doesn't support him.
Only tonight will tell if she was Professional enough not to let that effect her performance.

The Governor is going to a roast
I have to agree with talent scout.

The office of the VP has been to attend functions and funerals and take the pulse of the President once in a while. Only in recent years has the office of VP been shaped into something more by the occupant.

All the MSM and their ilk want is more fodder to yak about, there is plenty of material out there already but Dear Leader Barry is not to be held accountable for anything.

Sarah Palin, on the campaign trail drew a crowd of 60,000 in Florida. Dear Leader Barry pulls less than 10,000.

"Palin doesn't specify where she gets her news." Headline! Really important stuff.

Sarah Palin is a candidate who connects with the people in a way the disciples of Dear Leader will never understand.

SNL...
...has always done, and still does, a great job of political impersonations (R & D). The vast majority of them are in fun. IMO, Fey is different. She cannot hide her disgust of anything conservative...pure BDS. Watch re-runs of her on "weekend update."

Response
In response to one poster's comment about the media's obsession with "minutiae", this is the type of knowledge necessary when managing a complex economy or dealing with world leaders. If you needed heart surgery, would the doctor's medical training and experience in performing operations be "minutiae" to you? Of course not. You would want De. Debakey- the guy who could perform an operation with his eyes closed(and who would use GOOD JUDGMENT)--not the guy who came into the operating room with the intention of bluffing his way through the procedure, thereby putting your life at stake. Look at where Bush's ignorance has gotten us-- we are in a never-ending war because he thought we could simply go to Iraq, grab Saddam and say "mission accomplished". How many more stupid leaders do we need? What is wrong with this country-- that causes people to argue vehemently in favor of ignorance and incompetence when it comes to our leaders? Are we really that basic? One final point: Repubs are arguing that Palin is being bombarded with "gotcha" questions. Well, if she knew the answers, they would not be "gotcha" questions. This is what is known in the educational community as a circular argument. "Well, she doesn't know the answers so these must be gotcha questions". Go figure.

Syler: Meeting with Dictators
Syler claims Sen McCain was only half right. But if you watch closely he was totally correct.
Even the Secretary os State does NOT start by meeting with their HEADS of state. He/she starts with their Secretaries. This is a direct contrast to what Sen Obama stated in an EARLIER debate in his primaries.

Text is below.

MCCAIN: Senator Obama twice said in debates he would sit down with Ahmadinejad, Chavez and Raul Castro without precondition.

Obama: Senator McCain mentioned Henry Kissinger, who's one of his advisers, who, along with five recent secretaries of state, just said that we should meet with Iran -- guess what -- without precondition.

MCCAIN: Look, Dr. Kissinger did not say that he would approve of face-to- face meetings between the president of the United States and the president -- and Ahmadinejad. He did not say that.

OBAMA: Of course not.

MCCAIN: He said that there could be secretary-level and lower level meetings. I've always encouraged them. The Iranians have met with Ambassador Crocker in Baghdad.

What Senator Obama doesn't seem to understand that if without precondition you sit down across the table from someone who has called Israel a "stinking corpse," and wants to destroy that country and wipe it off the map, you legitimize those comments.

This is dangerous. It isn't just naive; it's dangerous. And so we just have a fundamental difference of opinion.

one other point
Knight is in keeping with a lot of pundits in thinking that Palin needs to avoid a gaffe. But I think this is a mistake. The problem with Palin is not the large number of gaffes, is the too small number of non-gaffes. Except for the convention speech, in which too many of the popular lines turned out to be inaccurate, what has Palin done to counter the gaffes.

To defend Palin from the gaffes, the natural thing to do would be to point to the other answers which show insight on important issues. And they are not in abundance to put it mildly. She is probably best when talking about abortion, but that is mostly because she has learned how to avoid actually saying anything of substance.

Did you know that in the case of a girl raped by her father Palin would counsel her not to have an abortion? That is a much better answer than that she would make it illegal for that girl to do so. But even on the Roe question, Biden ran rings around her in terms of showing knowledge of the issue. (Not that his answer was not open to criticism but it was clear he understood the issues involved and gave his actual thinking on it).

It is true that Palin can win the debate by simply not making a fool of herself, a pretty low bar. But I don't think she can turn around her drag on the ticket without actually showing some understanding of an important issue. If she answers a few questions well then she can afford a gaffe or two. So in that sense playing it safe is probably a mistake.

interesting
Reading Knight one gets an eye into the bubble in which conservatives exist. He suggests that paying attention to the SNL satire of Palin is something new. Apparently he missed the attention paid to the earlier satire of Clinton. They have tried but failed with Obama and McCain so far. But when did it start? Probably Chevy Chase as Ford in SNL's first season.

And Biden's gaffes have gotten more attention than some of McCain's. (Do you remember the problems on the Iraq Afghanistan border, or the confusion of shia and sunni?.

And while it is true that Virginia as a whole is a diverse state. The part of Virginia in which Allen made his macaca remark is not. To pretend that Allen meant to be talking to a diverse audience is either silly or deceptive.

And the media never repeats liberal gaffes? How silly is that. Gore never actually claimed to invent the internet, and yet that fictional gaffe was repeated ad nauseum. You all remember "I didn't inhale" because it was also repeated ad nauseum. At least that one was accurate.

But conservatives have an amazing ability to see themselves as victims however myopic they have to be to support the idea.

the blame game
Wow-- this is like the Twilight Zone. This editorial is chockful of inaccuracies and all-out lies. For example, one newsstation actually SHOWED the tape of Kissinger agreeing with Obama. If you people could stand back and listen to yourselves, you sound like a bunch of paranoid schizophrenics. Conspiracy theories about Obama negotiating with Iraq to extend the war... theories accusing the 'liberal media' of causing Palin's verbal dyslexia, when this woman cannot put a cohesive sentence together-- as if English is her second language. You also make the assumption that Ifill's book will be favorable to Obama-- when the chapter on Obama has not yet been written. This amounts to a misrepresentation. You seem to depend on readers being uninformed and simply accepting your broad-brush assertions and omissions. Question: If Ifill asks a question and instructs BOTH candidates to answer THE SAME QUESTION, how can it be unfair? Is the argument that the questions are too difficult for Palin and should therefore be dumbed down? If so, what does that say about Palin? You guys seem to be admitting that Palin is a lightweight when you become defensive at every question asked of her? What are journalists to ask her-- just biographical questions? Is this the same standard expected in interviews with ANY OTHER POLITICIAN? As an educated female, I am greatly offended by the 'tokenism' involved in the defense of Palin. There were NUMEROUS qualified female Republicans and a win-at-all-costs mentality is the antithesis of "country first." Simple-minded people may align with this article, but you guys come across as a bunch of immature, whining juveniles with no critical thinking skills. It is simply not attractive. (Let's see if you actually post this.)

Nice try
George Allan called the Indian person in question Macaca, as if that was his name, not a "macaca". Big difference, it was clearly racial.

Go Sarah! Go Sarah!
I'm rooting for you. Remember, you don't have to answer the stupid questions, you can point out how they haven't been asked of Obama.

syler,

Obama said he (obama) would meet with these evil dictators without pre-conditions. Of course, he later backed away from that statement and started to modify it. That proves he is capable of learning. But, his original statement proves he is not ready and does not have the experience to become POTUS.

It is a pretty sad state of Democrat affairs when their POTUS is not as qualified ast the GOP VP candidate.

That is the primiary issue of this campaign. Qbama, Jr.'s lack of experience and qualifications to be POTUS. His inexperience will lead us into war faster than any of the other three running for national office. In addition, his lack of experience will cost America more in lives and wealth than any of the other three running for national office, if by our misfortune he is elected..

Ifill stands to make a lot more money

from her book if Obama is elected in November. She has every reason to try and sabotage the GOP ticket. Success in doing so could mean many thousands of dollars to her personal financial situation.

What Palin should say to the gotchas
"These are the kind of questions that life-long politicians like to bandy about so that their constituents hear how pretty they sound as they stick the knives in their back. I'm sure that by the time I've been on the national political scene I too will have a smooth answer that says nothing and offends no one.

But the reason I was brought into this campaign was to look at ineffective, dishonest and wasteful policies inside the Beltway, and then call a pile of horse manure just what it is."

Scott, some clarification
"Thanks Knight for pointing out that Obama was dead wrong when he misquoted Kissinger."

Scott (& Knight), check the facts before posting...

Here's what Kissinger said during the CNN forum with other secretaries of state at George Washington University:

"Well, I am in favor of negotiating with Iran....I actually have preferred doing it at the secretary of state level..."

"...I do not believe that we can make conditions for the opening of negotiations. We ought, however, to be very clear about the content of negotiations and work it out with other countries and with our own government."

So, Obama and McCain were both half-right. Kissinger didn't think the president should meet with Iran, just the Secretary of State. But, Kissinger also didn't think there should be pre-conditions.

Re:Palin is Failin'
We should be asking those questions even more earnestly to Obama. Being an active senator of 140+ days is not enough experience to be POTUS.
Yes, he has been in the senate longer than 140+ days, but he's been running for president most of his term.

Being a gifted speaker does not make a person experienced to become president. But then, dems and liberals usually prefer style over substance.

Don Juan
"rather, they revealed shocking unfamiliarity with the essential body of knowledge that she would have to have mastered to be qualified to sit in the Oval Office."

Are you kidding me? Not being able to name all of John McCain's 'reforms' over 26 years is considered necessary to master the nuances of the Oval Office? Not having at least 10 unpopular Supreme Court decisions on the tip of your tongue raises some sort of red flag? Palin is being held to a different standard than Carter, Reagan, Dukakis, Clinton, and GWB. The fact remains that she's still a more qualified politician than Barack Obama. As far as your 'fairly full passport', congratualtions. Now stop patting yourself on the back and run for governor of your state and win, like Palin did. And, good luck with you Couric interview...

Palin is Failin'
Sarah Palin is a good mother but she should not and will not ever be President of the United States. She should not even have been put in the position to be so in the first place. She should be asking herself, who am I? What am I doing here? Good Lord, is John McCain on crazy pills?

How the Dems Wrecked the Econ
This video recaps how the Dems, including Obama, created the Freddie and Fannie subprime mess, then fought off Republican efforts by McCain and others to impose reform.

WAKE UP AMERICA OR DIE IN YOUR SLEEP!!

all palin has to do is answer wisely
And all Gwen Ifil can do is ask questions. The candidates will get the same chance to aswer the same questions,

So put away the hankies.

It doesnt matter who Ifill is pulling for. By the way, all moderators have a favorite-get real.

Anybody interested enough to postion themselves into a career position where they could be consoidered to moderate a VP debate has strong views one way or the other.

This is a ridiculous issue
This victim mentaility is embarrasing to true conservatives.

Bob Barr is principled man; McAmnesty is a waffling weasel rino who will say anything (or do) to be POTUS. Remebr David Souter, folks

whichever of these 2 clowns wins, will be a one termer in any event.

I will vote for Bob Barr, and go home and sleep well.

Kathy-
Kathy, I think your divorce lawyer was on to something....
Anyway, the "lefties" are doing the responsbile and democratic thing. They are challenging Palin and asking questions about her political history as all candidates should be required to do. Palin is WAY over her head and everyone (including TH readers) know it. She is looking bad all on her own.
But because you (TH readers) are followers rather than leaders you will vote for whoever Rush Limbaugh tells you to, even if is a gigantic mistake. So really Kath, there would be no karma in this scenario, because those dirty liberals are doing the right thing and in fact conservatives who are selling the country short by supporting Palin are going to get the ugly end of karma.

A word for the lefties:
I had a divorce lawyer who once told me, "You've got one thing going for you...everyone hates you!" It was true and things turned out OK for me. That's the way it is with Sarah Palin...everyone on the left hates her with a passion. They are making history with their venom, smears, and contempt. Well, I've got news for you lefties, "There is a God and there is karma...and you guys are setting yourselves up for big time disappointment". Now I can just anticipate your reply, "Oooh, we are so scared!" Well go ahead...mock God...make my day!

Go Sarah! God is with you and John McCain!

Waiting for the gotcha!
The moderator has total control of the questions and follow ups on this deal. She will be watched closely since her little book deal has been exposed and she can't afford to look too biased but I will be waiting for Ms. Ifill's "gotcha" questions. SteveL, the moderator is an Obama supporter so no matter what Palin says, it will be spun to the maximum benefit of Obama/Biden. It's a sad day for America when a "regular" person is not thought to be good enough to hold a high office.

Chuck writes: "I am old enough to remember Ferraro's run as well and she got nowhere near the treatment that Palin is getting."

Because the Internet didn't exist back then!!!

Most of the most vicious stuff against Sarah Palin isn't coming from the MSM. It came from the left-wing blogosphere (the Huffington Post was one of the worst offenders). It got so bad that even Daily KOS didn't want to touch some of this material. The stuff they were making up about Sarah Palin was obscene in some cases.

Bloggers have no standards of journalistic ethics or credibility. It's all tabloid stuff: Any rumor, no matter how wild, can get circulated. With Photoshop, pictures can be faked or altered digitally to the point that only experts can detect the forgeries. And with the Internet, this crap flashes around the world at the speed of light, before anyone can issue a denial or debunk it. In less than a week, some FIFTY different wild rumors about Sarah Palin were flashing around the Internet. In the end, they were ALL proved false, but by then, the damage had been done.

The problem is that once the bloggers get ahold of it, it's going to become widely known anyway, so the MSM then has to decide if they want to at least acknowledge it. And it leaks into the MSM.

Sometimes a legitimate story emerges that way (e.g., CBS's forged National Guard documents on Bush; the faked wire-service photographs from Lebanon). Bloggers had them first and only later did the MSM admit they were right.

I think that if the Internet had existed in 1984, Geraldine Ferraro would have been clobbered by the bloggers, just as Sarah Palin has.

Have you ever seen how Sarah Palin debated in Alaska?

The trouble is, no matter what question you ask her, she personalizes it into an anecdote about herself:

"What do you think of drilling in ANWR?"
"It's important because Todd has to fill up the gas tank of his truck every few days and it's costing us $100...."

"What do you think of the decision to go to war in Iraq?"
"My son is going to Iraq. I pray every night for him to come home safe soon."

That ploy may work with the good folks in Alaska. But if she tries it tomorrow night against Biden, she's going to get nailed. These moderators are NOT going to accept such evasions as real answers.

They're going to keep pounding away demanding more than that. And she had better have more than that.

my2centsplus claims: "Now I know it's petty, and it sounded 'cutesy' BUT just simple math tells me 30 years ago, she was 14. "

Biden came to the Senate 36 years ago, not 30.

Do you remember the 1970s?

Will Chavez be 'fair'
In his dealings with the next Veep? Or Putin? Or Kim Jong Ill?

This is a job interview. McCain, Obama, Biden, they've all done theirs with dozens of debates and countless press conferences and interviews. The voters have made up their mind about them.

Palin's handlers have very unwisely restricted her access to the media, allowing it to define the narrative, and that narrative is distinctly un-Vice Presidential.

This controversy in fact only increases the stakes for Palin, because the majority of the public that has yet to settle on her will watching anxiously to see how she handles a biased journalist, with Putin, Achmadeenajab, Castro, etc...in mind.

Micro managing the Palin threat

The libs stand in danger that Palin will deliver a clear conservative message.

Their only hope is to try to micro manage her. Gwennie is in place, and Biden will be TOTALLY out of character, as Obama was (no "uh, hold on, uuuhhh, aaand, aaaand, y'knows"). Yes it is set up.

My best hope is that she will take opportunities to speak to the voters. The liberal mediator, in turn, will try to keep her focused on minutia.

PS, They may offer one deliberate inconsequential Biden Blunder, just to cause a storm in the wittle conservative talk radio tea pot. And conservatives will be such stupid newscycle-chasing puppies, they will be occupied for days.

Truth
This author, like all of the professional pundits and commmentators, does not understand the reason why GOP guys suffer for their sins while democrats do not. It has nothing to do with mistakes, or even misdemeanors and felonies.

GOP officeholders and candidates for high office are condemned not for the offense, but because they are cowards who wilt and grovel when they're caught. They therefore allow their enemies to have power over them. They have the ability to deny their enemies that power.

All a GOP guy has to do is simply stand erect and stand by their words and actions. Macaca? So what. Sen. Allen should have simply laughed at the condemnation of that word and said, "Yes, macaca. Look at that kid. Look at his hair. (It was a spiked mohawk at the time of the statement). He looks like a macaca. I didn't make him look stupid like that."

And when the media continued to press him on it, he should have used it again. Yes the media would have been shocked and wounded, but the people in Allen's district would have admired his strength. Sure, they wouldn't admit it. . . until they got behind the curtains in the voting booths.

McCain is falling because he's acting like a gelded eunuch just as much as his bungling of the bailout. Does anyone remember those wack jobs in the Heaven's Gate cult 10 years ago who killed themselves so they could hitch a ride on the Hale Bop comet? The men had castrated themselves some time before that event and they morphed into weak looking androgonous freaks, speaking softely and acting timid just as McCain is doing now. It's unnerving the citizens. We can't blame them for shunning McCain. It's weird.

Until GOP guys evolve from being squids, invertebrate gutless jellyfish, they will continue to give their opponents the power to crush them.

Someday they may figure it out.

BIDEN BETTER BE CAREFUL
No not a gaffe. Even if he states that King Henry the IIIV was govenor of Texas, the press will give him cover. But more people will be watching this then the first McCain/Obama debate, thereby going over the presses head.

Biden is mean spirited and is going to try to make SP look as bad as he can. All I can say is that the black guy's surrogate better not un-fairly attack the white woman with all of those people watching.

Suffering

No doubt, Bandu, if Obonzo the Fraud wins, the people like Chickenhawk (as a Kansan, I deeply resent his misuse of the name "Jayhawk") who vote for him will get exactly what they deserve.

The only problem is that a lot of good and decent people will be forced to suffer terribly and unjustly for the stupidity and foolishness of Chickenhawk and his ilk.

jayhawk in aotearoa
You are using very well the method employed by the media criminals in this country. First they - or you - make statements either slightly factual or completely false, the point is to denigrate the character or intelligence of their (your) target (See your "The brilliant etc etc" sentence offending the candidates's intelligence.) Then the media - and you - knowing they (you) have provoked a "certain" reaction (if the victims don't respond they remain branded by them -and you - as not only stupid but weak, so when they react as they should, as they must, the media - and you - ATTACK them, cover them with ridicule (Awww, poor Palin, she's upset, if it wasn't for the bad media she'd win the race.)

This is an old extremely effective trick the criminals in control of the media have been using for ages to destroy people. They can't be held accountable, all they need do is bury a retraction somewhere and they're scot free.

BUT.

You are as much a victim of the marxist media criminals as Palin is, the difference being that you and millions like you have been so completely brainwashed by the criminals in the back rooms of the MSM that you can't discern anything anymore, you are sheep in their hands, they manipulate you by means of sheep dogs with names like Oldbegman and Madcow.

Come January 20 you'll have your socialist government in place, I honestly hope that McCain concedes and declares Obama's victory
by this weekend. Only an insane, self obsessed moron would want to be the president of a country at the moment in its destiny when it instantly slides from a first rate world power directly into a third world irrelevant backwater. You Wish!
Daniel scrawls left-handed with his pink crayon on yellow paper:

"And in Ohio, Obama is up eight points, 50 percent to 42 percent, after having led by 49 percent to 42 percent before the clash in Mississippi.

"it's over"

YOU WISH!

First of all, Danny Boy, those polls are totally irrelevant.

The ONLY poll that ACTUALLY COUNTS is the one that's going to be taken in voting booths all over the nation on November 4th.

I'm going to go out on a limb here. Unless your boy Obonzo the Fraud carries a lead in the polls of at least fifteen points nationwide going into Election Day, there's an eighty percent chance that he will lose.

Ever heard of the "Bradley Effect"?

It's named for Thomas Bradley, the black mayor of Los Angeles who, in an episode of political history that totally baffled pollsters and political pundits, lost his 1982 bid to become Governor of California despite enjoying leads in the pre-election polls similar to those your boy Obonzo the Fraud allegedly has now.

It seems a lot of poll respondents were lying to the pollsters. The respondents told the pollsters that they were voting for Bradley, even though they had no intention of doing so. The respondents lied to the pollsters because they didn't want them to think that they were "racists" for not voting for a black man.

Moral of the story: Polls are unreliable. In the first place, people lie to pollsters all the time, as Tom Bradley found out in 1982.

In the second place, a media that can color its coverage of events and issues to reflect a certain worldview can certainly rig polls to reflect that same worldview. In fact, rigging a poll is one of the easiest things in the world to do.

SO IRAN AND SYRIA

The real irony . . .
is that despite the media's actively campaigning for him, Obama leads by a measly 2 to 6 points or so in the polls. In the end, the American public will not be duped by this charlatan.

This election is about the media!
How many people out there have been waiting a long time to spank the liberal-biased media? For me, it has been an eternity. When Sarah Palin made her acceptance speech, she sparked everyone to take on the media and make a statement. This election is a referendum on whether or not we want a Cecil B. DeMille character in the oval office. It also gives us the chance to slap the media silly. I can't decide which one I am going to enjoy more!

Cam
Long time no see, but you're wrong. I too remember Geraldine Ferraro's running for office but if I remember correctly the big deal then was the use of the Willy Horton ads.

To amend Kevin's excellent post I might add that the FM/FM scandal is far bigger than Enron or WorldComm ever were but the coverage has been abysmal to say the least. Barney Frank should resign both his finance chairmanship and his seat in the House-but funny how the Dems who get caught with their hands in the cookie jar are never reprimanded, much less slapped.

A bit hypocritical, wouldn't you say, given that Newt Gingrich was drummed out of his Speakership for accepting an advance on a book-just as Hillary did but did not lose her seat over!

Biden has been on the wrong side
of every foreign policy issue he's ever encountered. The great astronomyer Ptolemy was brilliant & regarded as the ultimate source of astrophysiological information for 1500 years, but he promoted the earth was the center of the univers, & he was dead wrong.

Biden opposed Reagan's tax breaks that broke Carter's recession with inflation, high unemploy., high int., & started a boom that lifted the stock market from 750 (under Carter it wasn't believed the market could ever hit 1000) to 15,000.

Biden opposed Reagan's battle to end communism. He opposed the Pershing missiles in Europe. He didn't foresee the uprising among the Poles & didn't see the fall of the USSR or the collapse of the Eastern bloc.

Biden did nothing under Clinton to pursue terrorism thru' the Foreign Relations Comm. He was interested in treating terror like street muggings and ignored the tainted campaign money Gore & Clinton grubbed f/the Chinese in 96.

Under Bush, Biden voted for Iraq (the Sen. voted 87-12-1), but since has carped & wailed like a banshee. He voted against the surge in 2006, & for years, espoused the idea Iraq should be abandoned & divided into three nations. His concern for the 24,000,000 Iraqis has been disinterest & outright hostility.

Now, he thinks FDR was on tv in 1929, which is a good fit for the Great O who thinks he's visited 57 out of 59 states (missing Hawaii and Alaska). If Americans really think this pair is more fit to govern the most powerful nation in the world, they are truly hopeless & could well live to see the country become another second-class nation like most of Europe, BO's enduring, elite model.

cleverness of me
I had to read it twice to get the point but I agree. John was toast until there was Sarah. Clever.

Sacrificing profits to win
John and Cindy McCain took one for the team with the choice of Sarah Palin as VP. You see, Cindy runs a beer distributor, and now that Palin is John's running mate, conservatives won't have to get drunk in order to vote for John. The money they could have made...

Palin Is More Qualified
to be president that Obama, Biden and McCain. I'll be voting for her regardless of her performance in the "debate".

Biden's been around 36 years!
Yeah he makes gaffee's but he is a known quantity and been in on a lot of major policy decisions and is a regular TV guest. And you will notice how the right has not found any real dirt or scandal on Biden. You have to go back to 1988 when he plagirized a speech.Palin new untested unvetted unknown and now a sitting duck all in prime time.

So what do we do about it?
This is just one more article that points out the obvious; we have a one-sided, politically motivated liberal media. The example typically used to communicate their lopsided perspective is "imagine if a Republican candidate had said that."

It doesn't matter what Republicans say, it can and will be used against them by the media. Even "fair and balanced" types will not speak ill of the obvious agenda of their uber liberal colleagues.

Watching the Fox News folks wet themselves with glowing assuredness that in spite of the fact that the VP Debate Moderator, Gwen Ifill, had a clear conflict of interest in this election, she would still do "just swell" as the debate moderator, exposes their claim of objectivity.

The greater question then, is when are we the people going to take the media to task? It is not OK for an unregulated medium to act in a role of political advocacy.

So, save your calls to congress, they are in such deep doo-doo over their complicity in the financial debacle, that it will be months before they crawl out of the hole they have dug for themselves. Instead, call the media.

If they get the same pressure as has put on congress of late, they might get a clue. If they don't, we put them out of business. That is something that even the MSM will understand.

Georgia Gal
Sorry for putting it this way, but you are full of it.

I am old enough to remember Ferraro's run as well and she got nowhere near the treatment that Palin is getting.

And speaking of unknowns, who's that guy running for POTUS on the Dem ticket? A short while ago, his acolytes hadn't even heard of him.

Section 953 of the penal code and Ovomit
Also known s the Logan act
His code pinko groupies went running to the Iranian crackhead whats-his-name and tried to negotiate with out set pre-conditions
His buddies have raked in the cash thru CRA and ACORN
His other buddies are known terrorists and convicted felons...
MSM should crucify him instead of running in fear and distorting every syllable spoken by a classy woman running for VP
There is NO integrity in MSM and I'll not be watching the debate I'll read the transcript so I'll not bolster MSM's ratings.

Questions
The next question I expect Governor Palin will get is, " What is the airspeed of a coconut laden swallow? "

No Cam.....
You've gotta be kidding us. Nice attempt though.

Have the media even touched upon the fact that Obama's current economic advisors walked away from Fannie Mae with ninety million dollars in their pocket? No, they're too interested in Bristol Palin's pregnancy.

Have they mentioned that Obama took a nice fat chunk of lobbying money from Fannie Mae? That's a bigger scandal than "troopergate" don't you think? Well obviously the media doesn't because they're all still in Alaska dspite the fact that this story--like all the others; book-banning, rape kits, adultery, secession party, Todd's twenty year old DUI--has absolutely no merit.

Charlie Rangel, tax crimes from the Ways and Means Chairman. Where's the coverage?

Barney Frank in a sexual relationship with one of the Fannie Mae execs? Any mention?

Chris Dodd, the biggest receptor of fannie Mae money. Still waiting for some questions.

You know, maybe you're right. This isn't bias. It's journalistic malpractice.

Cam is right
The split is known/unknown rather than liberal/conservative. I'm old enough to remember the reaming that Geraldine Ferraro got in 1984 by the MSM ... and she was the Democratic Vice Presidental nominee. She was also almost as unknown as Palin.

You guys just don't get it
When you pick an unknown quantity for VP (as Bush 1 did with Quayle), the immediate assumption is that the newcomer isn't qualified to lead the free world. Surprise, surprise. It's not liberal/conservative, it's known/unknown. When McCain said Iraq and Pakistan shared a border and Iran was supporting Al Qaeda, did that story last two days? No, because everyone knows McCain and will allow him a gaffe on foreign policy. The same is true for Biden and US history. As for the liberal media, you gotta be kidding me. Have you ever watched George Stephanopolous or Tom Brokaw grill Obama or Biden? They don't cut them any slack, as they shouldn't. Now compare that with Hannity's interview of Palin where he basically said "Hey Sarah, here's the mike. Tell about whatever you feel like saying." In other words, anything that's not squarely tilted to conservatives is considered "biased".

My pet goat.....
and many others have condescendingly referred to Governor Palin as "Caribou Barbie" though I suspect that most women would have quite the rush of ego to be compared to Barbie. Ironically enough, the feminist harpies are again probably projecting their own feelings of inadequacy, since while they wished they looked like Barbie dolls, they more closely resemble Cabbage Patch dolls.

Best gaffe of all
is when Obama said that he had been to 57 states and he had one more to go. I wonder which state that was?

Sarah Palin will
do just fine...she is a class act and can weather the storms caused by the MSM. I wish Katie Couric would have asked her questions about how she will serve as VP...questions on energy production, her vision for becoming energy independent. Instead, she asks her gotcha questions about John McCain's voting record and Supreme Court rulings. A governor would have no need to know those things...she is busy with the executive business of her state. I used to admire Katie Couric but her gotcha questions show she's just like the rest...in the tank for Obama. Guess we should have known that when she joined Gibson and Williams to puppy dog after Obama in Europe and the Middle East. Oh well. We'll just see how Sarah does...I have a feeling John Kusich is right and she'll do a marvelous job.

bill....your treason claim is a lie
Bill #1 comment....this story has been thoroughly debunked by none other than the Republicans who were there at this alleged treasonous act. Repub sen Chuck Hagel, Repub sen richard Lugar, Bush's chief aide Ryan Crocker....they were there and this did NOT happen. One iraqi guy said it did, one, and rather than talk to the people who were there at the meeting, the right wing paper printed the story. So, keep onn screaming treason...that is why people like you have no credibility. There are plenty of real reasons to not want to vote for Obama...please don't talk about the lies! They actually make it harder.

Not answering Couric's 'reading list' question was the right move.
This Iffel thing is unreal. Fox News couldn't get a debate from the dems and we're supposed to trust this woman's objectivity. Not even Juan Williams is trying to sugar coat this one.

Scott
Not much to praise. She's the albatross around the anchors chain.

Gwen Iffel
is a professional, and I serioulsy doubt she'll risk her career on tanking this woman. Palin is quite capable of doing that herself.

This week in I woa she said about biden: I am looking forward to debating him! I've been listening to him speak since I was in second grade!.

Now I know it's petty, and it sounded 'cutesy' BUT just simple math tells me 30 years ago, she was 14. Second grader who is 14? I know she is dumb, but really, 14 and in second grade? I have a second grader. She's 7 and losing teeth.

this truly is the party of low standards and expectations. 4 years wandering might do us some good, in getting our collective GOP act together.

McCain camp should fully praise Palin
Tomorrown morning,

Someone from the McCain camp (or John McCain) should strongly support Palin. She has actually done a great job considering what she was thrown into.

She has done so much better than Biden!!!!

Can't believe some of racist and stupid comments that Biden has made over the past couple of weeks ... that have been ignored by the media.

Thanks Knight for pointing out that Obama was dead wrong when he misquoted Kissinger. And of course, not a mention in the media.

Gee.. to the liberal trolls
that are out in force today on TH.......the "moderator", gwen for the VP debate has written a book about the "era of Obama" and is set for release on inauguration day of 2009. It is a possibility that Biden already has the questions in advance to put Palin at a huge disadvantage!

Personally, I would advise Palin to open up the debate comments with wishing Gwen good luck with her book promoting Obama, and reveal the obvious BIAS this "moderator" has for the Demo-thugs!

To My Pet Goat
You know, maybe you might realize that calling people freakazoids because they express an opinion opposite of yours might, just might, make it harder for your Messiah to govern once in office.

The Governor is going to a roast

If she just mentions a generic word like weather, she will be accused of wearing a beanie with a propeller on top by people who work for ABC, CBS, NBC, or CNN.

On the other hand, Joe Biden could talk about past lives and is now a reincarnated maggot, and get praise for his worldly knowledge.

She of course will shine, because she is a real person, not one of the slimey hypocrites of Washington DC and the media

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww.....
Wrong, again.

You people on the freak-azoid far Right have managed to set the bar SO low for Caribou Barbie, that if she is able to even put together one single sentence, you can claim a triumph!

OBAMA COMMITTING TREASON
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/
2008/09/19/opinion/main4460105.shtml?
source=RSSattr=Opinion_4460105

Thanks to reporting from Amir Taheri, the gist of which the Obama campaign has confirmed, we now know that while Obama is telling the American people he wants an end to the war, he has secretly negotiated with the government in Iraq to extend the U.S. military mission there. That is a black-and-white violation of federal criminal law.

Yet, during Obama’s heralded trip to Baghdad in July, he asked Iraqi leaders to ignore Bush and delay resolving the legal status of our forces until next year - by which time the Senator hopes no longer to need a phony presidential seal.

Under the “Logan Act” (now codified at Section 953 of the federal penal code) it has been against the law since the late 18th century for U.S. citizens to carry on “intercourse with any foreign government” that is aimed either “to defeat the measures of the United States” or to influence the foreign government’s dealings with the United States. Being a senator is no immunity from this statute - as any Republican senator would find out in a hurry if he dared to pull a stunt like this during an Obama administration.
