Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Is Senator Barack Obama the next John F. Kennedy or Richard Nixon?  This may seem like an odd question given their party affiliation, but simply labeling them Democrat or Republican fails to get at their personalities and styles.

In terms of style Obama clearly wants to emulate JFK; as the next young, handsome intellectual, with the fashionable wife and adoring crowds.  Like the young Kennedy, Obama seeks to rise above mere politics to iconic status.

But despite his rock star status, Obama shares some of Nixon’s personality and style: a touch of paranoia and a tendency to stretch the truth in his own defense.  And if you get Obama away from a teleprompter, and the large adoring crowds, he is far less eloquent and a great deal more combative.  There is an arrogance and obsession with secrecy that is Nixonian.

As I have noted before, as soon as he became the presumptive nominee Obama immediately accused his opponents of racism and smear tactics. And it wasn’t long before the campaign created a web page to fight these alleged smears.  They even went so far as to diagram what they called “Smears, Inc.” the nefarious individuals and groups behind these smears.  Unfortunately, the information on the site is not only inaccurate, it does the very thing it is claiming to stop, namely smear campaigns.

This paranoia, and lack of a sense of humor, is pervasive in the Obama campaign.  When comedian John Stewart mocked the campaign for creating its own presidential seal Obama supporters argued that he was promoting “right wing talking points” merely by laughing at Obama.

Say what you will about the recent New Yorker magazine cover, but it was clearly a publicity stunt and a poor attempt at satire.  Obama could have brushed it aside as just that, but instead he took great offense and tut-tutted that he was disappointed that the magazine would fuel such offensive stereotypes.

For Obama and his supporters his image, some say brand, is too important to be sullied by satire.  The bitter and unsophisticated voters he needs to win over wouldn’t get the joke anyways.  And if the public complaints weren’t enough, Obama refused the New Yorker a place on his press plane for his trip abroad.  The message was clear: anger Obama at your own risk.

Obama extends this defensiveness to his wife Michelle.  Despite being viewed as one of the candidate’s most effective surrogates, and as having played a key role in the campaign, Obama insists she is off limits no matter how controversial her statements.  He rebuked John McCain for not immediately denouncing the latest rumor (started by Hillary supporters) surrounding his wife.   Obama haughtily plays the chivalrous husband while his own surrogates question McCain’s military service and fitness for office after his time as P.O.W.

When Obama’s attempts to limit criticism fail he simply blocks the media from access.  Michelle is increasingly kept under tight control to avoid any more controversial statements.  Obama himself barred any foreign journalists from accompanying him on his recent trip.  Don’t want any awkward questions from those pesky journalists.

The pattern continues at home.  Write something the campaign doesn’t like?  You might find yourself the recipient of any angry late night call or wake up to find the campaign is sending out attack memos at your expense.

Just this week more evidence of this paranoia persona surfaced.  When asked about his visit to bases in Iraq and Afghanistan, Obama complained that the TV’s always seemed to be tuned to Fox News.  Not content to question the soldiers’ choice in news Obama went on to insinuate that President Bush had somehow commanded the military to watch Fox News.

In Nixon’s worldview the liberal establishment was always out to get him and everything he did was justified in fighting that enemy.  In Obama’s equally warped view, anything that gets in the way of his success is by definition racist, a smear, or a distraction from the issues that matter.  He is always, and has always been, consistent and right; and if you feel otherwise you must have misunderstood.  Oh, and it is always President Bush’s fault.

But for those that haven’t drunk the Kool-Aid what is increasingly clear is that the only issue that matters to Obama is his getting elected.  Everything, and everyone, else are just props on the stage.

The question you have to ask yourself is what happens when the show is over?

"Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed." -- Michelle Obama, UCLA Speech, February 2008 --

Thank you for posting this! I saw this somewhere else, but when I mentioned it to some of my friends they expressed doubt about "her" quote.

Now I have the source of the quote and can let my Obama supporting "associates" read it for themselves.

I am very concerned about this couple; they seem to have taken lessons from the Klingons and have improved on their method of gaining power.

As one who does not expect to live long enough to see the end game, I worry greatly for my grandchildren; I have been blessed. I also love all the innocent children who may have to live in a world of slavery.

And may I remind all readers; when the government can take away your money, they also add "leg-irons." It is another form of slavery.

Now, it is necessary to fund legitimate government projects. We have to depend on our representatives to make sure that it is legitimate. Unfortunately too many do not have the best interests of their constituents as their primary role.

As a small business owner I have been subjected to unreasonable regulations that I have to obey; and, by the way, I have to also pay for someone else to satisfy the regulation.

Watch for my rebellion on other threads; I am not going down without a fight.

I love the United States; it's the greatest nation this world has known that we know of.
If you know of a better one, please go there.

Michelle
If Obama wants to protect his wife from criticism, then she should shut up and stay home. As long as she is campaigning and criticizing McCain, Bush, and America she is fair game.

ok, panic!
Just wanted to check with the folks who live in Fairfield County, CT, if they have experienced similar problems: today in the morning, AGAIN there was no sound on Fox News Channel on our TV's which had no cable box. All other channels worked but the Fox News. I called OPTIMUM, and the guy was puzzled by the fact that just one channel had been silenced. It had happened in then past as well, but not for such a lengthy time period, at least an hour; and since it sounded strange even to the OPTIMUM employee, I wonder if someone is listening to Barack Hussein's complaints about FOX News channel popularity.

Oh, so Fox news is fair and balanced.
No need to worry that Fox is lying. Is that what we're hearing? It is paranoid to believe Fox is partisan. Well, sorry, that is clearly a lie. Fox prides itself on being partisan and "kicking a**".

And no, you're wrong. Obama DID NOT take personal offense to the New Yorker cover. He simply said it was wrong to create an image of muslims as terrorists.

How would you cons feel if someone put on the cover of a magazine an image of a "Christian", meaning someone wearing and obvious cross, etc. and having all the bomb making ingredients that many christians have obviously used over the years? Think of the state terrorism in Guatemala, which was used by the CIA to overthrow Arbenz. Is it right to equate that with Christianity??

"0bambi is Nixon with 2 parts Jimmy Carter, 1 part Alec Baldwin and 1 part Tiny Tim".

Actually, I'm going to revise that as Nixon was actually competent despite of his crookedness and arrogance. Net result: Jimmy Carter with 3 parts Jack Layton (current leader of Canada's Numpty-Dhimmicruds), 2 parts Joe "Who" Clark (erstwhile Canadian PM who didn't figure out for over 20 years that the people of Canada had had enough of him the first time), 1 part Lloyd Axworthy (aptly-named Canadian cabinet minister under Trudeau and Chrétien) and 1 part Alec Baldwin (only so I could get back to including a Yank). ;)

NO WAY!!!
"....an after-dinner speaker remarked that he was proud Harvard had never graduated an Alger Hiss and even prouder that it had never produced a Joe McCarthy, JFK exploded in anger. Rising at his seat, he shouted, "How dare you couple the name of a great American patriot with that of a traitor!" JOHN F. KENNEDY, by Joyce Milton page 89-90J

Joe McCarthy has been proven right about communists in high places in the FDR and Truman administrations by the declassified Verona Project and KGB files. This information is now public knowledge.

The use of the term mccarthyite to describe the Clintons, with no objections from BO, by his campaign handlers in the primaries clearly indicates their candidate is no JFK. His 2006 campaigning for Kenyan Marxist Raila Odinga isn't kennedyesque either.

For further information about Odinga see:

Jayhawk in Aotearoa, dude, next time you find yourself out and about stop at the Library and check out a grammar and elementary spelling book. The past-tense of "pay" is paid, not payed...after you brush up on English, check out a philosophy book. There you will find lessons on how to construct LOGICAL arguments.

Michelle told us what to expect next . .
I generally do not place much emphasis on what a candidate's spouse may say during an election campaign. However, a statement by Michelle Obama continues to cause me great concern about her view of what U.S. citizens can expect of her husband as POTUS:

"Barack Obama will require you to work. He is going to demand that you shed your cynicism. That you put down your divisions. That you come out of your isolation, that you move out of your comfort zones. That you push yourselves to be better. And that you engage. Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual, uninvolved, uninformed." -- Michelle Obama, UCLA Speech, February 2008 --

REQUIRE -- DEMAND -- NEVER ALLOW -- What is this .... Change you MUST believe in -- OR ELSE?

Can you say demagogue?
Obama demonizes his opponents to elevate his 'brand'. It's an effective but familar ploy. H. L. Mencken defined a demagogue as, "one who will preach doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots."

Right is right
Mr. Collins you hit the nail on the head with this one!

We in trouble now.....
If B-HO is elected, he WILL have a clear mandate-
“Change” – the definition will be up to him alone.

He and the Social Democrats & Rinos will be pro-tax,
pro-big government spending, pro-UN, pro-globalist,
anti-energy, anti-military, anti-freedom, and anti-USA.

The signs are there for those who will see.
He would not be the first Post-Racial President,
He would be the first Post-American President.

Like Nixon, those who criticize him will be “enemies,”
and for B-HO, they will also be “racist” to boot.

Just imagine his reaction to a tiny fraction of the abuse
and lies heaped upon Bush for the last eight years.
He cannot handle the presidency, and we will all pay
the price for what he hath wrought.

What happens next?
Why he told you himself - a national police force armed and equipped as well as the military.

What color shirts do you think they'll wear?

JFK or Nixon
I read 9 replies and several readers hit on my conclusion, that, if elected Obummer will be closer to Carter than to either Nixon or JFK.
There are of course remarkable similarities in comparing Obummer and JFK, beyond the obvious "young, mesmerizing, Harvard-educated" mold.
If Obummer gets elected, he, like JFK, will arrive with no clear mandate and very little bipartisan support. His proposals (whatever they are) will meet strong opposition from both sides of the aisle. Most of the great ptograms associated with JFK were enacted after his death, when LBJ, who knew how to handle Congress, merely had to say: "This is what Jack wanted".
Obummer's campaign slogan of "Change" will mean little in the firmly solidified cesspool that is Washington today.

You cannot buy publicity like this!
"Obama complained that the TV’s always seemed to be tuned to Fox News. Not content to question the soldiers’ choice in news Obama went on to insinuate that President Bush had somehow commanded the military to watch Fox News."

==========

The FoxNews ad writes itself: "FoxNews: the American news source chosen by those who choose to defend America."

Sweet!

Does anybody have a link to where Obama made this complaint?

And a follow up...
One thing that has struck me is that Obama does not seem to me to be a very smart man. He's more of an idiot savant: incredibly able at working the teleprompter, but otherwise just plain dumb.

So that leads me to wonder, who's running the show, who's calling the shots? What foul group of vermin behind the scenes is playing Obama's strings, telling him what to say and when to say it?

It reminds me of the Philip Green character in the movie "Casino." Is Obama the meek and stupid figurehead taking his orders from the party "bosses?"

Well, it has to be Nixon
Despite what he might like to think, Obama is no JFK. JFK was a decent, though perhaps not great, president. He served honorably in the military (and that should be a constitutional requirement to be president). He was a great speaker (like Reagan). And he kept his cool and navigated us out of the Cuban Missile Crisis, perhaps his most important accomplishment (though it could be argued that his own lack of experience lead to the crisis in the first place).

Yeah, I guess it would have to be Nixon. But you'd have to add 2 parts Jimmy Carter, 1 part Alec Baldwin, and 1 part Tiny Tim. What a dreadful concoction that is. Yuck.

0blahma neither JFK nor Nixon
He actually emulates one of (pick any one):
(1) George McGovern
(2) Fritz Mondale
(3) Jimmuh Carter

LOL

Obama who ??
Is Obama a citizen ??

This question popped up a month or so ago then disappeared with no answer.

As a United States citizen and a former Naval Aviator I would like an answer other than the one the Obama campaign will give labeling me a bigot.

Obama new who ?!
No way you can compare Obama to Nixon! I would say - Carter - both socialists and both are incompetent.

Obama can be compared to
Hurricane Katrina
A very destructive force
Destroying everything in its path.

Watching this wreck of politics coming from this destroyer is like watching a hurricane destroy your home.
Just as painful.
But when Judgment comes, it brings pain.
Natural law of the Universe brings destruction through wars and famine.
War looks different than famine, but both are designed to destroy.
Far as I am concerned the two party system of today are both being used to destroy everything this nation is Founded in.

Last chance to save America.
Get rid of democrats and republicans

quote:
"As I have noted before, as soon as he became the presumptive nominee Obama immediately accused his opponents of racism and smear tactics."
====
This is what Obama and his racist supporters are hoping happens.
They want an excuse to use their own racism.

There is no greater racists in America than Obama and the Church he went to for 20 years.

They thrive on racist ideology, and promote is as if its part of the Gospel of Christianity.

They mock the very teaching of Jesus Christ and are enemies of everything this nation is Founded in.

The answer to your
question is "no way".....Proverbs 14:7 tells us that we should stay away from fools if we are looking for wise counsel.

You Can Teach ...
A dog new tricks. Collins would seemingly prefer his Democratic POTUS contenders to do it the old way: sit back above the fray, not responding to character attacks, not fighting "fire with fire". Sorry Richard, Obama's playing by his own rules, and he has payed attention to the last 2 elections. No longer will he "trust" the mericn public to see through such scurrilous and grave issues such as who invented the internet, purple hearts and French ancestry. The mericn people just aren't that smart. Obama understands that to beat the Rethuglicans, he must occasionally get in the sewer with them. You reap what you sow.
