Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

In responding to criticisms Obama has developed a pattern: his policies spring from only the purist of motives and are, despite abundant appearances to the contrary, completely consistent with his previous statements. In contrast, his opponents are motivated by deception and greed or worse.

Obama has gone so far as to claim that the campaign ahead is sure to be based on fear and smear tactics rather than a debate about the issues. At a fundraiser in Florida he claimed:

We know what kind of campaign they’re going to run. They’re going to try to make you afraid. They’re going to try to make you afraid of me. ‘He’s young and inexperienced and he’s got a funny name. And did I mention he’s black?’

Notice how he quickly connects a legitimate concern, youth and inexperience, with nefarious accusations and racism. In Obama world, any criticism is prohibited, any characterization suspect, and any attack based on fear.

This was comically illustrated when Jon Stewart joined the rest of the media in mocking Obama for creating his own presidential seal and his self-serving explanation for refusing to participate in the public financing system.

No sooner had Stewart declared that “You're Allowed to Laugh at Him” did the liberal Huffington Post decry Stewart’s humor as “playing right into the Republican line.” In Obama’s world even a joke is inappropriate, as it might tarnish the image of the political messiah.

Obama likes to portray himself as the candidate of hope, openness, transparency and civil debate. But he is the one who quickly questions the motivations of anyone who dare criticize and who labels huge swaths of issues off limits or distractions.

This attempt to portray his opponents as out to smear him is deeply disingenuous and meant to stifle debate, not encourage it. The campaigns have spent the last few weeks debating energy policy, the proper strategy for the war on terror, and significant Supreme Court cases among other issues. I don’t recall the RNC sending out press releases about Obama’s middle name or his race. I don’t recall John McCain giving major speeches on these points or talking about them in interviews.

Instead McCain and Republicans have been working furiously to pin Obama down on his policy positions – not easy with his ever shifting answers – and show how these are to the left of most of Americans.

In fact, McCain challenged Obama to travel across the country holding townhall meetings so that voters could meet the candidates and ask them questions directly. This is not exactly the strategy for a campaign of fear and smear.

When this proposal was first broached Obama reacted positively, but when it became clear that his vaunted speaking skills were far less impressive without a teleprompter and adoring crowds, Obama quickly abandoned the idea. Instead, he proposed four debates only one of which was a townhall format and that on the fourth of July! Is Obama afraid voters might “smear” him by asking a question unfiltered by the campaign or its acolytes in the media?

I will not deny that there are people out there spreading rumors and half truths about Obama. But the same can be said of McCain. Leftist bloggers have gone so far as to question McCain’s service and his need for medical benefits as a result of his time in a Vietnam POW camp. Gen. Merrill A. McPeak, Obama’s senior military advisor, referred this week to how McCain was “a skinny kid,” “fresh out of jail,” on his return from Hanoi, but that he had “done very well at the dinner table in Washington." Nothing but class from the Obama campaign.

Despite his youth and inexperience, however, Obama is a shrewd politician. The media may not have bought his lame explanations surrounding the decision to refuse public financing but he knows there are few story lines the media like more than the secret racism of Republicans. He is hoping the media will pick up his accusations and return to their former role as Obama cheerleaders and the scourge of Republicans.

The truly sad thing is how much rides on whether the media decides to give into this temptation or continues to hold Obama accountable for his past statements and positions.

Given their past history, it is likely that voters will have to learn the truth about Obama despite the media. The good news is that the world of alternative and online media has made this possible.

So turn Obama’s campaign against him and “fight the smear.”

Thank God for the Internet!
Without the Internet and talk radio, would we have even an idea of what Obama stands for? Would we get a word of his position on policy from the media that gets shivers up their legs when he speaks, or who equate his speeches as on par with the soaring sermons of Marin Luther King and John Kennedy?

Thankfully the alternative media exists for those who want a more unfiltered version of "Hope and Change" and who want to see what Obama is really about!

If President
this man is going to raise multicultural political correctness to a new art form. Hello Fairness Doctrine. Goodbye to Sean and Rush. Meet the cultural wasteland. Got something bad to say about gangs? You are a racist . . . don't believe in affirmative action? Get reeducated in a sensitivity class . . . see the point? The guy is beginning to get very, very scary indeed. But McCain? I don't know . . .

I have
yet to see anything I like come out of Chicago.

The true racists
What I noticed quickly was how Obama projected racism onto his opponents--when in fact liberals are the primary racists in this country. One need only read Obama's autobiography of his own family to see that.

It is no accident. Collectivism makes racism inevitable. To the extent that an individual accepts collectivist ideas, he/she will be racist.

What I thought was a hoot was
Obama thinking his opponents were going to use his blackness to scare a black audience!

Hey POT, FEAR the KETTLE!

Backwoods WVA Redneck Peckerwood Cracker Audience maybe--but Hussein wasn't talking to them.

That's what made the whole thing so disqustingly black racist! Only black racists COULD think an White Opponent would attempt to smear a Black Candidate by threatening a Black Audience with his blackness!

Morons!
Still gonna vote for Labamaba if I can't vote "none of the above". Mac the Knife is a vote to destroy Reaganism. See my blog, click the underlined name.

Dancing BEAR!
Howdy from Capt. Kangaroo and Mr. Greenjeans too. Mr. Moose, and Bunny Rabbit and Grandfather Clock.

And none of us voting Mac the Knife.

See my blog for some VERY cogent reasons why a vote for McAin't is a vote to DESTROY conservatism.

OBAMA IS DIGGING HIS OWN GRAVE
Does anyone else notice that the more Obama talks, the more his percentages fall? McCain doesn't have to say much of anything. Obama is talking himself out of victory. And it's all good with me.

Vigilance
Flagwaver....Yes thanks for things like the internet and talk radio. BUT, the libturds latest via nanny Pukelosi is the REAL and almost immediate raising of the fairness doctorine. They know that if O'Vomit wins they will have to silence or at least mitigate the voices of the right so that they can get their MARXIST and SOCIALIST programs thru the legislature. Elected officials are supposed work for us. Instead they are trying to enable their agendas without the public knowing. Sane people in this country have to continually be aware thru talk radio and other formats so that we can bring all this liberal crap to the light of day where it shrinks and withers. It is fortunate "we the people" can legally keep our weapons now. We might need them in the streets in the not too distant future.

The media loves Obama
No question about it. The mainstream media looks at Obama as "Obama Dalai Lama". If they truly listened to his ideas then he would be referred to as "Obama Lama Ding Dong"

re: Apollyon67
That is exactly why they call it the "Windy City"! It's got nothing to do with the weather.

Interesting
I was curious how far into the comment section of a column claiming that Obama is being ridiculous for thinking that the attacks in him will be attempts to make him seem foreign and dangerous it would take for a comment designed to do so.

It took 4. Impressive.

my 2 cents
If ANYONE is surprised by Obama's strategy he sure ain't smart enuff to be ritin' in th. It's completely predictable and smart - even I could see it coming from a mile away.
