Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Barack Obama may be the political equivalent of a rock star with his huge crowds and his celebrity endorsements, but his economic policies are simply the warmed over liberalism of the sixties and seventies.

Stale liberalism doesn’t have a history of success in America and doesn’t match his image of Hope and Change. This same old big government tax and spend liberalism is a far cry from a “New Politics.” So Obama has been forced into some creative marketing to sell his leftist ideology as post-partisan solutions to the country’s problems.

If you can cut through the hype and the rhetoric, his worldview is clear. Look at the way he talks about money. Tax cuts are “giveaways” and “wasteful spending.” Forget for a moment whether specific tax cuts enhance revenue or stimulate the economy. Instead, remember that tax cuts are fundamentally different from government spending because the money isn’t the governments to begin with.

This captures the liberal view perfectly; the government knows how to spend your money better than you do. Wanting to keep your own money is selfish and wasteful. Obama even made the ludicrous claim that it is only with his nomination that America can began to heal the sick and find jobs for the jobless. It is only increased government spending that can solve problems and only Obama who can lead the way.

Obama is counting on the fact that many Americans have a poor grasp of history. He is counting on the fact that high gas prices and a slowing economy might tempt them to return to a philosophy that has failed repeatedly in the past. Have we forgotten the legacy of Lyndon Johnson and Jimmy Carter?

It was Lyndon Johnson who waged the War on Poverty and initiated “urban renewal.” These crusades resulted in a system of dependency and family dysfunction based on the warped incentives of government welfare; in rising crime rates and destroyed neighborhoods; in bloated government bureaucracies and higher taxes.

Jimmy Carter brought this same attitude to Washington. His solution to America’s problems was more federal government control and spending. Is American education better off since Carter created the Department of Education? Is America more energy independent and secure since the creation of the Department of Energy? Did Carter’s policies jump start the US economy?

Obviously, the answer to all these questions is no. The Carter administration was a time of long gas lines and rationing, stagflation and rising unemployment. A general malaise fell over the country. Facing this crisis Carter famously called on Americans to sacrifice in the name of energy conservation. Rejecting the dynamism and innovation of America, Carter proposed that we simply learn to live with less.

Despite all of his charisma, Obama brings the same attitude. He too castigates Americans for selfishly driving the car they want or for using air conditioning too often. He too believes that the answer to our energy challenges is more federal spending. He too believes that domestic sources of energy must be off limits; that the desires of the environmental lobby trump our national interest and the pocketbooks of average Americans. He too opposes free trade and favors big unions over small businesses.

Obama’s record matches his attitude, if not always his seemingly centrist campaign rhetoric. Obama and his allies in Congress have tried to resuscitate the windfall profits tax strategy that failed during the Carter administration. In his first three years in the Senate Obama voted for increasing taxes 94 times (including taxes on coal, natural gas, payroll, and income).

Obama talks at length about only raising taxes on the rich but he voted in favor of increasing the 25 percent federal tax rate to 28 percent (this bracket covers income from $32,550 to $78,850 for individuals and between $65,100 and $131,450 for married couples). And his plans to end the cap on Social Security taxes means an increase for anyone making more than $100,000.

In order to get elected Obama is sure to campaign with centrist rhetoric. He will try to play on the weariness of voters tired of Washington. His fresh face and rhetorical skills will be used to convince voters he is different.

In reality, Obama is a traditional liberal who favors more government and less freedom. These policies have been tried and failed. Dressing them up with fancier words and bigger crowds won’t change the outcome.

Let’s hope voters remember their history.

JAMES B
Your Repub scenario appears to be an exact description of the Jimmy Carter presidency, except for the war part.

Jimmy didn't do wars, even in America's best interest. He just allowed communist expansion to run rampant without confrontation and pulled the rug out from under our staunch ally the Shah of Iran allowing the Ayatollah to take over and then hold hostages from the American Embassy.

It took that "warmonger," Reagan, to straighten out the economic and political mess of the ultimate Dhimmi-crat and also to have the hostages freed.

I trust you support the Jimmy clone, BO (Tea for two and mullahs too?), to make things better than under Bush? Dream on.

"Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it." - Santayana

The reason to be afraid of Carter 2
I wouldn't be nearly so jittery about Democrats giving us the second coming of Carter, if only the Republicans would give us the second coming of Goldwater. At this point, I'd be willing to settle for a second Reagan.

How about it, GOP - can we have a true conservative? Hello? HELLO?!?!

democrats and demographics
Think about it - many who will vote for Obama are too young to remember Carter. He left office 28 years ago next winter; many Obama voters are under 30.

JIMMY OBAMA
According to Ahmed Yousef of Hamas in his endorsement of BO: "President Carter, who is one of the few Americans to truly understand the Jewish problem, has told us that Senator Obama can be trusted to follow the same anti-Zionist path to peace that he has advocated."

Some may dismiss this quote as the ravings of a lunatic. Unfortunately BO's previous support of the Kenyan anti-semitic Muslim militant, Raila Odinga (his cousin) certainly makes the veracity of Yousef's statement worth exploring.

But ever since "Hanoi" Jane, the treason clause of the Constitution has not been applied to those Dhimmi-crats irrefutably "aiding and abetting" the enemies of the U.S. It might be revealing if Jimmy were forced under oath to comfirm the veracity of Yousef's endorsement.

McCain is now even more important
in being elected to appoint two/three more Roberts or Alitos to the Supreme Ct.

Kennedy, a lawyer? just gave reasoning for treating foreign, un-uniformed privage nationals who fought as partisans against us in foreign countries the privileges of private American citiznes.

The majority ruling is nuts AND DANGEROUS.

We already know over 30 of those released from Guantanamo have returned to fighting as terrorists. And those were the ones deemed safe enough to release.

Now, like dolts, we will spend MILLIONS PAYING FOR BOTH DEFENSE ADN PROSECUTION FOR THE TERRORIST MANIACS LEFT AT GUNATANAMO.

The military should re-empt the Sup. Ct., re-arrest the Guantanamo detainees under martial law and try them in tribunals under military law on a base overseas somewhere.

An Obama win in Nov. means 2 or 3 more Kennedys or Ginsbergs will be added the the SC for life. AAAARRRGHHH!!!!

Congrats, Minnesota MercMerc,
even though your diminished capacity has obviously overwhelmed you, at least your 'brilliant post' was finally legible.

First AA President?
There's a real possibility we may have the first Affirmative Action graduates in the White House, which should please the leftists and socialists. But four years of tax-and-spend Obamas may put this country back 10 years.

Liberal policies don't work; just look at the War on Poverty which we're still losing after LBJ inaugurated this monstrosity. Harvard graduate Obama is so dumb he doesn't even see the consequences of welfare on black families, leading to delinquent fathers, decimated neighborhoods, and a rampant drug culture.

The ironic point about the potential election of Obama is that most of the young people think an increase in taxes won't affect them so they're down with that policy. Of course, increasing taxes affect everyone, not just the rich and this is basic economics that Obama should have been taught at Harvard.

Sorry leftists
But this article tells it exactly as it is. The programs of the left do not work, have not worked and will not work even with your "Messiah" in charge.
And don't start yacking about the Bush administration and his policies and failures. Congress passes the laws, not the president and except for a few years the Dems were in charge of Congress. The Republicans when they were in charge blew their chance by acting like Democrats and spending money like there was no limit. The President does try to set policy and push Congress to pass certain things. Also note that many of President Bush's failings were when he acted like a liberal and added entitlement programs. He is not a true conservative.

I'm waiting
for O'Vomit to sit in his "Mr. Rogers" sweater in front of the White House fireplace telling us all over again that America's best days are long past - just like Jimmy Carter.

Some may dispute your assertion of Jimmuh being naif (as I know French, I'm "docking" you on that technicality) as his actions could easily be seen in pattern as a conscious attempt to undermine US.

As far as his being a fool, no disagreement.

renny
we got a mortgage during the carter years. I wish it had been 12%. Wew had one that started at 16%.

the terms of the loan allowed for a 1% increase/decrease per year with a maximum range of 5%. I don't recall anyone in congress claiming to come to our aid while mortgage payments took 50% of our net income.

In spite of reports how successful a flat tax rate has helped europe all we hear from b hussein is how we don't pay enough taxes to fund his socialist views.

But b hussein has yet to explain why we should turn over $890 billion to the UN in some hairbrained scheme to end world poverty. This the the same UN that stands by and watches the mugabes of the world terroize and butcher their own people.

Wew know b hussein has trouble picking friends and mentors. But should we trust his lack of judgement concerning the economy and who america can trust around the world.

Sen. Obama & the North American Union?
Barack Obama YOU HAVE SAID NOTHING about the N A U (SPP.GOV). You MUST know this “business deal” was done by Pres. Bush with his friend, confidant & past Pres. of Mexico, V. Fox. This quietly done "deal" was ORALLY solidified at the Bush ranch. It was never debated by the legislature or told to American citizens. We now see plans for a Super Highway, where thousands of acres of tax payer property will be confiscated through (the Kelo vs New London Court rule) eminent domain process. PRIVATE PROPERTY IS CENTRAL TO THE FREEDOM AMERICANS ENJOY. The N A U- “NAFTA Super Highway” deal negates this basic, American right to own, retain, safeguard and preserve property owned by families, in many cases, for generations. The NAU, surreptitiously done by President Bush in 2005, with NO debate or vetting by the legislature, completely disenfranchised Americans of any knowledge of or say in the matter. It is the equal of a virtual coup in surrendering U.S. sovereignty to a trilateral entity that, in the form of a N A U, could equal the European Union that dictates to the citizens of 27 European states. Senator, you need to tell American your position on preserving U.S. Sovereignty. The N.A.U., if actively denounced in your campaign, could win you the presidency. Your opponents have never talked of this vital issue - - meanwhile the Bush admin. is proceeding as thought this private scheme is a “done deal”. America is watching, listening & waiting to see how you stand on this critical matter. P.S. House Concurrent Resolution 40 states Congressional DISAPPROVAL of the NAFTA Highway & N A U. You are NOT among the 48 COSPONSORS of the bill. Why? Ron Paul introduced H.R. 5191, prohibiting use of federal funds for N A U highway projects. Back this bill & show you support the sovereignty, independence & freedom of America.

Comparing Barry O to Carter
is an insult to Carter! Carter didn't INTENTIONALLY try to destroy the USA.

Carter was simply a naive
fool. This guy is no fool, he is a marxist, controlled by the soros crowd and the other lefties who would destroy this country in their quest for a one world gov't controlled by them through the corrupt UN.

If he ever fools enough people to get elected, he'll stack the SC with lefties who will sell us down the river.....look what the "supremes" did yesterday, gave terrorists who want to kill us all and destroy our country, rights that aren't in the Constitution..These are enemy combatants, caught on the battlefield who should have been shot.Instead these animals are treated better than the Marines who guard them in our little PC world.

Try to imagine what a court would think up that was stacked with maxists and appeasers like obama.

Keeping such a thing from ever happening mandates a vote for Mccain, an American hero who dearly loves this land, unlike his opponent and especially the wife who hates this country and clearly wears the pants.

Carter gave us recession
Carter gave us years of negative GNP;

high inflation, double digit;

high interest rates, the 18% credit card was invented, mnortgages were 12% for people who could find one;

high unemployment, 7% nationally and 10% in NJ, which lingered in NJ well into Reagan's 1st term;

a stock market frozen at 750 and experts wondered if it could ever hit 1000;

the loss of the Shah of Iran and kidnapped Am. embassy staff for over a year, the return of Khomeini and radical theocritizaiton of Iran;

invasion of Afghanistan by the USSR, which surprised Carter, altho' 400,000 commy troops on the border should have been obvious to satellite viewing even in the 70s and rise of the Taliban and worldwide terrorism we face today;

then Carter gave us speeches telling us we suffered from ennui and malaise and weren't doing our part to bolster his administration.

Carter was abandoned by his own Dems. themselves in 1980 and trounced by Reagan, whose tax cuts started the boom in 1982 that everyone born since 1980 now thinks is a birthright.

Obama has already said he wants to raise taxes even if they bring in less revenue because it is more *fair*; that under his tyranny we won't be able to eat what we want or drive when we want or set our house temperaments where we are comforable; his wife has said we will have to sacrifice, because Obama knows what's best for us--he sounds more and more like Lenin every day.

See my blog 6/25 on Conservative Battleline.

Another Similarity
Like Carter, Obama seems to have cozy relationships with anti-Semites. I suppose it goes with National Socialism. McCain is going to carry the Jewish vote (and contributions). That will swing New Jersey, Florida and possibly New York.

History
I forgot who said it, but they were right:

"The most important lesson to be learned from history is that people do not learn from history."

Get ready for Carter II.

Carter Redux?
Barack Hussein is not another Jimmy Carter. I know Jimmy Carter,Jimmy Carter is (not) a friend of mind and Barack Hussein is no Jimmy Carter.

Carter was weak. He had no heart to take on the hard things. He wanted to make everything better. Just like LBJ's poverty programs it did not make it better. He was not anti-American.(He may be now,though).

No, Hussein is not Carter.He is not weak.He and whoever is programming him,know exactly what they want. Total government takeover. He is an anti-American proxy for the left. A puppet.

Are you ready for domination? Support Hussein. A vote against McCain is a vote for Hussein. Search your minds and hearts. This may be our last chance for freedom.

carter second
are you suggesting, way down deep in what you are saying, that you equate Carter with Christ? wow.

Collins has a point.
The point about Jimmy Carter's characterization of a deep "malaise" affecting America, and Obama's insane view that other nations may not be OK with Americans driving their suvs, or with the amount of food Americans consume, or with Americans setting their thermostats at 72 degrees, certainly is valid.

O-Vomit
needs to put on a fruity sweater and bleat that Americans MUST put up with less!

That will complete the Carter-Obomination picture.

Check out the ANTI-LIBERAL ZONE for the 18 reasons why we MUST vote for this empty suit or MDogg will call us racist whiteys clinging to their guns and religion.

Tom Hayden is Reborn!
Look for their Manifesto from the 1970s and see how much of it Obama has co-opted. He is preaching to a generation that simultaneously believes the Boomers (their parents) Ruined Everything, and that they Owe Us Big Time -- and that the Boomers had more Fun than their Generation Whiner offspring will ever have. This makes them long to create an ersatz Sixties and pray that their parents will finance it and still have enough left when they die opportunely to hand off a big wad of cash to their offspring.

McCain’s Tax Plan Aids Wealthy, Says Gro

What plan helps the economy?

WP-A detailed analysis of the candidates’ tax plans confirms one of Barack Obama’s top arguments against John McCain: the Arizona senator’s proposals would offer substantial benefits to wealthy Americans.

An analysis of both campaigns proposals by the Washington-based, nonpartisan Tax Policy Center found that for people with incomes between $66,354 and $111,645, Obama’s proposals would cut their taxes by more than $1000, compared to around $300 under McCain’s plan. But for Americans with incomes above $603,402, Obama would raise their taxes dramatically, by more than $115,000 a year, while McCain would cut them by $45,000.

“The Obama tax plan would make the tax system significantly more progressive by providing large tax breaks to those at the bottom of the income scale and raising taxes significantly on upper-income earners,” the group concludes. “The McCain tax plan would make the tax system more regressive…. It would do so by providing relatively little tax relief to those at the bottom of the income scale while providing huge tax cuts to households at the very top of the income distribution.”

Wake up!
Obama says:
1 You can't eat as much as you want
2 You can't drive as much as you want
3 You can't put your a.c. on 72deg.as much as you want
4 If you work extra hard (nights, weekends, holidays,etc.)to make a life for you and your family, you have to PAY for people who refuse to work because you have the AUDACITY to make it on your own without the help of government(

THIS MAN IS DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He makes it up as he goes along.
Like a rock star, his songs do not have to make sense at first because the fan's keep on coming. Then his advisors come on board and they design something that the man can preach like a sermon. White guilt. youth, and a great talking head are his base. Wise folks are leaving. A vote for McCain is a vote against Obama. That is the killer program. He will knock himself off.

Carter rehashed
Mr. Collins, I'm so glad that someone realizes this, because it appears we are heading for a bumpy ride with Obama. Carter is the worst president that the USA has ever had, but we might be about to get a worse one.
