Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Maybe President Barack Obama should go back to school. He seems overwhelmingly popular on at least one college campus.

“Wear a helmet. Barack Obama does,” reads a sign outside a Chapel Hill, N.C. bike shop. Another store offers comic books telling Obama’s life story and casting him with various superheroes, presumably to save the world.

And indeed, Obama seems convinced that he can save the American economy. “Each day we wait to begin the work of turning our economy around, more people lose their jobs, their savings and their homes,” the president wrote in The Washington Post on Feb. 5. “That’s why I feel such a sense of urgency about the recovery plan before Congress.”

Obama’s article goes on with the usual campaign-style rhetoric about how many jobs he’ll “create or save” (the “save” is a nice touch, since it’s impossible to put an actual number on “saved” jobs) in the years ahead. But when he tries to provide details, his “stimulus” plan loses its luster.

“This plan is more than a prescription for short-term spending -- it’s a strategy for America’s long-term growth and opportunity in areas such as renewable energy, health care and education,” Obama asserts. He adds the plan “will be implemented with unprecedented transparency and accountability, so Americans know where their tax dollars are going and how they are being spent.”

Well, National Review Online looked at some of the programs the bill would fund. It includes $15 billion to increase Pell Grant scholarships. Wait -- this bill is supposed to put people to work, not send them to school.

The bill would also provide $7.6 billion for “rural community advancement programs.” Maybe the idea is to get the unemployed out of the cities and put them to work in the fields? There’s also $6.2 billion for the Weatherization Assistance Program. Hopefully Old Man Winter won’t end up getting laid off.

“In recent days, there have been misguided criticisms of this plan that echo the failed theories that helped lead us into this crisis,” Obama warns. Those criticisms include “the notion that tax cuts alone will solve all our problems.” Ironically, though, this bill now features the worst of both worlds: The wrong sort of tax cut and an enhancement of the very policy that triggered the economic downturn.

Republican senators added a provision to the “stimulus” bill that would provide a $15,000 tax credit to anyone who buys a home this year. This ignores the fact that it was the government’s encouragement of home buying that led to the credit crisis our economy is now suffering through.

Federal policies helped create a bubble which, when it popped, brought down lenders and endangered the entire banking system. This tax credit -- which the bill’s proponent Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., admits would cost $19 billion in tax revenue -- could actually create another housing bubble.

Obama adds that Americans “voted resoundingly for change” last year. Thus, he writes, we shouldn’t “let Washington’s bad habits stand in the way of progress.” But the fact is that this bill, far from being a break with the past, simply represents liberal policies writ large.

There are the usual big spending programs aimed at permanently expanding the size and scope of the government. They include $4 billion for job-training programs, $1 billion for the Census Bureau and $4.5 billion for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (which already has more money than it knows how to spend). And the bill aims to expand the Energy Department and the Education Department, when a better approach would be to shutter both.

All this has been sadly predictable for years.

In 2003, for example, The New York Times magazine did a feature story on the Center for American Progress, a new “think tank” founded by former Clinton aide John Podesta. The group was supposed to develop liberal -- or as they prefer to call them, “progressive” -- policy prescriptions. “We’ve got to fill the intellectual pail a little,” Podesta told reporter Matt Bai.

The CAP turned out to be a marketing machine, not an idea factory. It focused on attacking President Bush (mission accomplished) and ignored the work of developing big liberal ideas. So today, to judge by this bill, there still aren’t any.

Look at it this way: Obama’s correct that people voted for “change.”

But imagine if he’d told us that that his first action would be to ram through a $1 trillion spending bill. Would people have supported that “change?” Would senators such as Mark Warner of Virginia been elected if they’d admitted that ramming through an unprecedented level of deficit spending would be their first action? It’s doubtful, at best.

The country needs a change -- smaller government and a growing economy. The current stimulus bill, however, would only take us in the wrong direction.

"Change" is what it will be !
Make no mistake,that'll be small change left in your pocket after this Trillion dollar porkulus fiasco.

Change
Unfortunately, no one asked what the change would be. We all listened as the MSM glorified this man until he himself believed he was the chosen one. People wept when he spoke of change and hope, he was treated like a rock star instead of the man that would be the head of our country. We dared not question him on his associations with Wright and Ayers and we never questioned why we could hear nothing regarding his time at Columbia University or Harvard. No wonder he expected that we would just sit back and follow when he now wants us to let he and his pals spend a trillion dollars on a wish list. For that past 18 months this man has not been questioned about anything. He is is shock that some of us have come to our senses and are not ready to blindly follow.

Change
Of course, given his past, the media didn't want to report that his brand of change would bring the US in line with Stalin, Mussolini, Pol Pot, Hitler (The Socialist Nazi Party).

Transparency & accountability stupid
President Obama sure knows how to use power words to make the stimulus package as attractable as possible. It must be a rule to include we won't be like the Bush administration when President Obama wants the critics to love him. I guess the stimulus package goes down the throat smoother if words like transparency and accountability are used. Does Bidden's daily record have anything to do with that. I want everyone to recall the first time you went to buy an automobile. Remember seeing those in sales walking around at such a fast pace, as if they're so busy selling automobiles with no customers in the showroom. Thats what is happening with the stimulus package. President Obama is walking around at such a fact pace to get the stimulus bill passed, reminding everyone we do our own financing, that what he's selling is not a lemon.

the delusions of the messiah
when he started running for president the economy was humming along. He thought his message of hope and change and his watermelon grin would get him elected where his only job would be passing out money to all the victim groups the dims need to get elected.

I am sure that his primary goal was to seek reparations for all the blacks that his mentors wright and farrakhan told him needed to be paid.

But giving piglosi the responsibility to write the porkzilla fiasco shows a lack of leadership and no understanding of the economy or basic economics.

And still the msm and the trolls are cheering him on

What a maroon!!
Youth and inexperience galore!! This is what we are seeing now and it is not a pretty sight, is it? Enjoy your little boy president, leftist liberal morons and the rest of you airheads who voted this disaster into office. Shame shame shame on you!!

Rants
Hussein rants at republicans for not bowing down to him.

Collins, Specter & Snowe just SOLD OUT..

BREAKING NEWS:

Senators Collins, Specter & Snowe just sold the United States out. Calling them "RINOs" is an insult to RINOs.

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=D966EEQ80&show_arti cle=1

WASHINGTON (AP) - With job losses soaring nationwide, Senate Democrats reached agreement with KEY REPUBLICANS Friday night on an economic stimulus measure at the heart of President Barack Obama's plan for combatting the worst recession in decades. "The American people want us to work together. They don't want to see us dividing along partisan lines on the most serious crisis confronting our country," said SEN. SUSAN COLLINS of Maine, one of two GOP senators who signaled support for the bill.

Officials put the cost of the measure at $780 billion in tax cuts and new spending combined. No details were immediately available, and there appeared to be some confusion even among senators about the price tag as floor debate continued late into the night.

The agreement capped a tense day of backroom negotiations in which Senate Majority Leader HARRY REID, joined by White House chief of staff RAHM EMANUEL, sought to attract the support of enough Republicans to give the measure the needed 60-vote majority.

In addition to COLLINS, Sen. ARLEN SPECTER, R-Pa., said he would vote for the bill. Sen. OLYMPIA SNOWE, R-Maine, remained uncommitted." (cap emphasis mine)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thanks to these three SELL-OUTS (Collins, Specter and Snowe), a few years from now, our country will be forced to default on its debt obligations.
That’ll be after hyper-inflation has destroyed the value of our currency.
These 3 Traitors have enabled the Leftocrats to BORROW nearly a TRILLION DOLLARS, and flush it down the toilet on wasteful pet pork projects.
A trillion dollars.
That’s 1,000,000,000,000.00
If any of these three American Traitors (Senators Collins, Specter and Snowe) happen to be YOUR Senator, please, FIRE THEM.
Disgusting
What they are doing in Washington, D.C. is probably going to lead to a civil war. This is disgusting! The Obamabots and the rest of the sheep that gave Obama the benefit of the doubt are going to have a rude awakening.
Passed down from generation to generation, they just sold their Daddy's farm and got to pay for the priviledge of doing so. They've just indebted our offspring, down to probably the 3rd or 4th generation. Jackazzes, all of them.
Why all the whining?
These comments so far are simply absurd - full of falsehoods, paranoia, and whining.
Face the facts and accept responsibility: Your conservative economic model (cut taxes for the rich, deregulate, and drive up the deficit), which has been in effect since Reagan, has been shown to be a disastrous failure.
Your policies have crippled economies around the world, and will cause immense suffering to millions of people. So stop whining.
What's that, "Dr" Douglas?
Why don't you get YOUR facts straight, "Dr" Douglas? (Is that an earned doctorate? Apparently not in economics it's not, "Mr" Douglas.) Reagan was handed a far worse scenario than Obama and proceeded to turn it into the greatest peacetime economy in US history.
It's your liberal buddy Slick Willy who first led the charge to pressure lending institutions to relax their restrictions. THAT'S when the current crisis started, not during the last eight years, as your Messiah would SOOOOOOO like us to believe. (Speaking of whining, did you hear the Anointed One last night, moaning over the audacity of anyone to question a spending bill he himself doesn't even have a full grasp of? I hate to hear how he's going to react when he has to handle a crisis.) And I'll whine all *I* want to, as well, thank you very much, when those of us with a brain are forced to endure 4 years of hell because of an ignorant electorate.
Education
Oh how we allow our "leaders" to obfuscate: Pork is now "stimulus", Welfare is now "tax refunds", pro-abortion is "pro-choice", leftist is now "progressive", etc. How ridiculous does it have to get before we wake up and insist on reform of the absurd education system? I'm afraid we've already lost the battle but I must admit that the fact that 46% could hold their nose and vote McCain (as bad as a candidate that he was) rather than accept the socialist that was elected is a sign that there is still hope for us. Home school your kids before we get too lost.
Scott
The GOP moderates did the GOP a big favor by caving.
The DEMs would have had political cover if the GOP had been able to mount or credibly threaten a filibuster.
As Obama like to point out, "they won". This bill sucks, but the idea that the GOP could block something similar, when the DEMS hold such a monopoly on power, is ludicrous. In fact, any subsequent bill (if this one failed) would likely be a lot worse, because the media and DEMS would be able to pressure the GOP.
As it is, the GOP has now forced the majority DEMS to actually govern.
If this bill had been blocked, then all we would have heard is that the economy didn't recover because the GOP was being irresponsible by preventing Obama from tackling the problem.
All of the blame would have been on the GOP, and under pressure they would have had to pass something similar, and probably a lot worse.
As it is, the GOP has now made it very clear that this is a DEM bill. If the economy recovers, because of or in spite of this, all credit will go to the DEMS. That would be the case regardless - there's no upside to this for the GOP.
If the economy tanks, or slogs along, then the GOP stand to gain politically.
Dr. Douglas
Oh my, you have no idea how ignorant you sound do you? This whole fiasco was purposely designed and engineered by liberals in powerful places like Dodd, Frank, Pelosi, and Reid. Any student of economics knows that all major recessions have been, in part, caused by banking excesses. It was a no-brainer to scuttle the economy by pressuring and "urging" banks to take on sub-prime mortgages. Hey, they assured the banks that Freddie and Fannie Mac would cover the loans! So, the banks figure, what the hey, free money...why not? The planners of this scheme knew full well that these thousands of mortgages would be forfieted. The housing market expanded, or I should say, exploded to accomodate the easy credit situation. It was a well-orchestrated man-made recession that was designed to do exactly what it accomplished -- a liberal white-collar-coup. Brilliantly done, I might add.
Dr. Douglas
Doug says: "Face the facts and accept responsibility: Your conservative economic model (cut taxes for the rich, deregulate, and drive up the deficit), which has been in effect since Reagan, has been shown to be a disastrous failure".
For your information Doug, Bush cut tax rates below the levels of the Clinton years for every income group. The result of that action was an increase in revenue from the top 1% of income earners. They are now paying 39% of the federal income taxes; up 2% since Bush became president.
The cause of the economic collapse is too complex to explain away as deregulation. I'm sure you must have heard the term "subprime mortgage crisis" used to define the current economic meltdown. Well, it was the Clinton administration who pressured HUD into authorizing Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac to purchase subprime mortgages from lenders. That move, more than any other, caused the housing boom that supercharged the "Clinton economy" and led to the bubble in the housing market. It was the loosening of regulations on Fanny and Freddy that triggered the collapse.
I have no argument with your comment about driving up the deficit. So, I'm assuming that you will agree with me that the plan of Obama and the Dems to add an exorbitant increase to the deficit is a really DUMB idea.
Many Who Voted Obama
Did NOT vote for "change".
They voted for a black man, because they
were black.
Obama must now concede that the "change" he
promised is NOT why he was elected.
The American public who care about legislation,
outnumber the ones who did vote for the change.
Mr Douglas
Name ONE country that has managed to tax and spend itself into prosperity, never mind about 'hope' to 'change' itself into the world's most powerful economic engine.
Can't do it, can you?
Obamanation or abomination?
Liars, cheats & idiots
When I borrow money, I know the terms. They are misleading us that the cost is 800 billion. They have to borrow the money. Who are they borrowing from? What is the rate? How long will we be paying it off? How does it cut into the "discretionary" budget? How many generations will be burdened by this debt?
When you get a construction loan, money is not released until certain conditions are met. The idiots in Congress didn't even think to put that in the TARP legislation, or the current Obamanation. They are either complete idiots, or they need to destroy this country in order to remake it consistent with their socialistic, tyrannical ideals.
Why can't our generation sacrifice now to save future generations from our mistakes?
Getting Wet
Junior belongs on a college campus with the smarmy, uninformed, and functionally illiterate. I love his little tantrums. His snarling, vicious, anti-American wife was complaining to school children that she and the pretender just had to get away from the WH, then he was griping the other night because he was 'tired.' He made a ridiculous fist to shake at the Republicans and has whined repeatedly about radio talk show entertainers and most recently, the 'chattering cables.' Between insulting old women, using mocking language to one-half of the nation, flipping people off, calling the men in uniform 'guys,' and throwing hissy fits about toys like blackberries, this creep is a real no-class act. I guess it is hard to adjust when one has never had a real job, has always gotten his own way, and is accustomed to acting out. He is behaving, alternately, like a truculent child and a petulant adolescent. I think it is hilarious to watch the maggots who supported him during the campaign continue to try and carry his water now. It looks to me like they are all getting very wet.
Taxes are Voluntary
Tom Daschle, Nancy Killefer, and Timothy Geithner, all tax cheats (in our terms). But, what's the big deal? They just knew something that most of us don't. Taxes are voluntary. Just ask Harry Reid.
Change?
During his, Hussien Obama's Campaign, we were not priviledged to much info regarding his Stimulus Package. In addition, many kept reporting, "We just don't know enough about him or his policies".
Is this CHANGE for the better or WORSE?????
Stimulus resulting in Millions being provided to to ACORN, is not stimulating anything but the pockets of those whom put him, Hussien Obama, in the Presidency.
O NO!
It Is Not Too Late - Part II
Treasury Secretary, Henry Morgenthau, angry at FDR's Keynesian spending, confided to his diary May 1939.
I was raised believing that America had not seen it greatest day, but, now, I am beginning to believe that our future fails to hold any hope for sunny days ahead.
Please, on behalf of my children and their children, do not vote for this stimulus package. Pres. Clinton tried to pass a meager $35B, which was rebuffed by Republicans, and the 1990s were pretty good with out it.
The only way that Goverment will be able to pay for our debt, including unfunded programs like Social Security and Medicare, is if 99% of Americans follow the Jim Jones theory. Perhaps, if we drink the suicidal Kool-Aid, then what is left the Government will be able to garner enough money from death taxes to pay off our debt.
I beg you. No, I IMPLORE you.
(signed)
"The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not." Thomas Jefferson
It Is Not Too Late - Part I
I spent about 90 minutes this morning emailing every member of the Senate. This is the first part of my email. Use it, if you want, and make whatever changes you like:
Dear Senator XXX:
According to the rosiest polls, only 37% want the current stimulus bill to pass. 45% are against any stimulus and the rest want a smaller package with significant cuts to pork and increases in real TAX CUTS.
These percentages reflect Democrats, Republicans and Independents. So, not even a large majority of Democrats are buying the need for this large stimulus package. The overwhelming majority of Americans are against more spending, even in the guise of a Compromise Stimulus.
Will it hurt? Of course, but consider what the CBO said:
"President Obama's economic recovery package will actually hurt the economy more in the long run than if he were to do nothing, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said Wednesday.
CBO said the House and Senate bills will help in the short term but RESULT IN SO MUCH GOVERNMENT DEBT THAT WITHIN A FEW YEARS THEY WOULD CROWD OUT PRIVATE INVESTMENT; ACTUALLY, LEADING TO A LOWER GDP OVER THE NEXT 10 YEARS THAN IF THE GOVERNMENT HAD DONE NOTHING.
And...
"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and now if I am wrong somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosper. I want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We have never made good on our promises. I say after eight years of this administration, we have just as much unemployment as when we started. And enormous debt to boot." ...
After Odumbo
closes Gitmo, brings the terrorists here, has one of his liberal traitor judges release them, gives them free college educations, and the 250 of them attack nation-wide, killing thousands of Americans, what will be the reactions of Odumdo voters?
"Scamulus-Porkulus"
Sheer imbecility! An insult to even the dumbed down US electorate.
Why is it that, with so many college grads, "experts" giving their "savvy" opinions on every news and business related TV show, they don't explain the root of our economic problems to the people at large ?
1. America is at a tipping point, where tax consumers are outnumbering tax payers.
2. The "Jobs" that government "creates" are also tax consuming jobs and add insult to injury, government meddling into private enterprise and individuals' lives to justify these redundant "jobs" hinders efficiency at all levels.
3. America needs jobs created by private enterprise, these are the only tax paying jobs!
4. Of course we need significantly lower marginal tax rates for business, but foremost, if we want to be competitive, we must drastically reduce government meddling.
5. They keep mentioning the high cost of healthcare insurance. Of course it's high, frivolous lawsuits is at the root of 90% of the high costs. Let doctors practice medical medicine instead of legal medicine!
6. Our problems are really quite simple, yet nobody seems willing to bring basic common sense up to debate.
7. Regrettably, the solution will eventually have to come through rebellion and force.
The Good News.......
We have discovered that there is no secret conspiracy by banks to control the worlds money supply.
The Bad News: There is no effort on the part of the government to control the money supply.
Many
Obama: 119,000,000 Americans unpatriotic.
Well, it’s like this: When you compliment three Republican Senators for planning to vote for your debt bill, and you make that compliment using the term "patriotic" it then follows that you are implying that the people who aren’t voting for said bill are UNPATRIOTIC. From that, it follows that the people who don’t support the bill are UNPATRIOTIC, TOO. There are roughly 300 million people in this country: CBS News told us that 39% of them (and rising) don’t support the Democrats’ debt bill. That works out to 119 million people who aren’t patriotic enough for the President of the United States.
Note that I’m being nice in my choice of polls, here. Rasmussen reports that Obama’s unpatriotic list would be somewhere around 129 million; Gallup has it at 51 million outright traitors, and 111 million of doubtful loyalties. And that’s just this week; how many traitors will there be the next?
Since bin Biden claimed that it is "patriotic" to pay taxes, how many employed by the O'Ad. are unpatriotic? I mean, just think, of all of the Cabinet Secretaries, with tax problems.
Rural Community Advancement Programs??
Well, as is almost Par for Obama's ideas, Not a lot of detail there..But I've got a couple hundred acres of GOOD, very Rural Farmland that I would LOVE some help with, depending on what sort "advancement" He has in mind..
Could he be talking about *Share Croppers*?? I don't think I can handle an URBAN sharecroppers.. Just Kiddin!! That's what this WHOLE Dam83d thing is anyway, SATIRE, right??
Buyer Beware & of the Buyers Too
I have been and am always suspicious of snake oil salesmen/women and TV ads for $19.95 items that must be bought NOW!
Who buys this stuff anyway? Liberal Democrat Obamaniacs of course.
Isn't this cartoon
great and so true?
Wanna Bet?
In his first 17 days on and since Jan. 20 Obama has not gotten anything right yet, but he has been going at it like a squirrel on cocaine. I have never seen a grown man at such a frenetic pace.
I am beginning to wonder if he knows his lack of eligibility for POTUS will be revealed sooner rather than later, and his poseur status in the Office be ended quickly.
I am still seeking a Lib Dem Obamaniac (LDO) who can name one thing and be prepared to defend it that Obama has done right on or since Jan. 20.
Some of us have multiple betting pools going on when Obama's term will end, when it will be as difficult to find anyone who voted for Obama as it was for Clinton at a point in his Presidency, and other similar pools. I am putting up my stimulus check against anything the LDOs have to offer.
Real Deal !!!
Having been born and raised in Chicago, I know what a Chicago street thug is.
Living now in the Detroit area, where our great mayor was just released from jail, I know what a Detroit street thug is.
We now have in the office of President of the United States, the most prestigious in the world, a street thug.
Believe me, he is the real deal.
