Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Well, there he goes again.

This week, that purported conservative in the White House slapped around his liberal opponents one final time by asking Congress to give the executive branch a huge pile of money. “I have talked to the president-elect about this subject,” George W. Bush told reporters. “I told him that if he felt that he needed the $350 billion, I would be willing to ask for it. In other words, if he felt like it needed to happen on my watch.”

It’s a coup for soon-to-be President Obama. Now that Bush has asked for the money, if Congress refuses Bush can veto that refusal and then turn the cash over to his successor. Before he even passes “Go” the new president would be sitting on $350 billion. That’s a nice nest egg.

What’s unclear is why Bush would want to help Obama get off to a successful start. He ought to say, “If you want the money, you issue the veto and take the heat.”

After all, liberals have spent the last couple of years slapping Bush around. During the presidential campaign he was blamed for failing in Iraq and for destroying the economy. That must be why Obama is retaining Bush’s Defense Secretary, and why congressional heavyweights Sen. Christopher Dodd and Rep. Barney Frank (at least as responsible as the president for the mortgage meltdown) get to write the next bailout bill.

Liberals called Bush’s administration a threat to domestic liberty and foreign relations. To sum up the tone of the fall campaign, “Vice President Cheney has been the most dangerous vice president we have had, probably in American history,” Vice President-to-be Joe Biden said during a debate. Exactly why should Bush want to help these guys again?

Furthermore, anyone who’s read a newspaper or watched cable news these last four years has noticed that George W. Bush is generally portrayed as a raving, wild-eyed, extreme conservative. Even before the Sept. 11 attacks, he was said to be driving a wedge between Americans.

Since then he’s supposedly moved even further right. “The president took on tyranny by embracing torture,” Rex Nutting wrote on CBS MarketWatch recently in summing up the Bush administration. “He fought a war for freedom by trampling human rights. He enriched the already rich, excused their excesses, and then bailed them out of trouble and handed us the bill.” Etc.

Any number of mainstream media reviews of Bush’s tenure would make similar points about his supposed radical conservatism. Would that it were true.

Conservatives aim to limit government spending. Increasing such spending may be “compassionate.” But it’s certainly not “conservative.” And Bush has done plenty to increase spending. Far from being a conservative on fiscal matters, Bush has been “Tony Blair with a ranch,” as columnist Mark Steyn likes to put it.

He laid out his governing philosophy during a visit to California in 2002. “America doesn’t need more big government,” Bush explained then. That sounded too good to be true, so he swiftly clarified. “Yet we cannot have an indifferent government either. We are a generous and caring people. We don’t believe in a sink-or-swim society.”

Well, that last part came true, at least. The federal government has already spent $350 billion (nobody’s exactly sure where it went) propping up businesses that made poor decisions. Now it’s getting set to double down with another $350 billion. A bad bet all the way around, and not conservative in any way.

This follows similar big-spending programs such as “No Child Left Behind” (which gave the federal government even more control over education policy), Medicare Part D (which created a massive new prescription drug entitlement plan), the partial nationalization of American banks and the steady growth of pork-barrel spending under a Republican president and Republican congress. Whew. That’s quite a “conservative” record.

The fact is that, while George W. Bush has frequently been painted as a wild-eyed extreme right-winger, he’s frequently governed as a moderate squish. Far from aiming to destroy his political opponents, Bush has often gone out of his way to help them.

There should be a lesson here for the next “conservative” who gets elected: You’re going to get knocked around by liberals and the press (but I repeat myself) no matter what you do. So you should go ahead and implement nothing but genuinely conservative ideas. They just might work.

AMEN
Bush has not governed like a conservative and neither than the Republicans in Congress.

While the press attacked and attacked for the last 8 years together with the rest of the liberal far left radicals, not a single conservative voice was firing back. Not one!

If the media had been fair, they'd have pointed out that there wasn't a single bill Republicans could pass alone. Not a spending bill. Not a war bill. Not anything. What's worse, we usually got a lot of pork injected into every bill by both sides of the aisle.

Twenty years later
It has been twenty years since a conservative been in the White House, that is correct Reagan was the last true conservative in the White House. In reality of actual policy this is the order I place the last three occupants: The LEAST CONSERVATIVE George W. Bush 43, George HG Bush 41, and the most conservative policy only, William Jefferson Clinton, welfare reform, drug crime laws, don't ask don't tell, racial profiling can happen by minorities of the same race.

Its only the highly uneducated
that have ever thought bush was a conservative.

Sad to say that this the majority of the media and it appears of the voters too.

I'd drink a beer with him...But
At the end of the day the only thing conservative Bush did was injected the Military with equipment it should have had 16 years ago.
His last 4 beyond that F-

CONSERVATIVE
WHAT THE HECK IS THAT? THERE MAY HAVE BEEN SOME THAT RAN THAT WAY TO GET IN OFFICE,BUT I DARE SAY MOST HAVE RAN WITH THEIR TAILS BETWEEN THEIR LEGS AND RETIRED!

I'm
sick and tired of these lying nincompoops, it's enough. The are so arrogant the don't hide their liberalism anymore. The GOP Senators with a couple of patriotic exceptions, are in lockstep with the rest of the Club..expecting like submissive dogs rolling over for a belly scratch while peeing on themselves by the DemonRAT Traitors.
A red flag went up with us when we heard Compassionate tied up with Conservative. It really was an insult to every Conservative but we didn't have a choice did we? The fix was in for Bush, just as it was for McC. Algore and Lurch were enough to gag a barrel of maggots,
what would they have done after 9-11..i know
Algore would eat a lot more, get fatter and preach the religion of gorebull warming and Lurch would pontificate and opine the troops are too stupid to fight back cuz they didn't go to college! That's the only thing I have left
of my two votes for Bush, his response to 9-11,
that and a bogus bailout, and a second one on the orders of the not yet Prez. O.
Are ther others outside TH that are seething with anger as I am over the betrayal of trust by the politicians in both parties and the
betrayal of their sworn oaths to defend the Constitution? I know there are 47 million voters who didn't fall for the propaganda and
the idolatry of the Obamamystic.

Partial Agreement
While I agree with Mr. Tucker on matters of substance, I think it would have been at least as mistaken for President Bush to try to "destroy his enemies" as it was to conciliate them unduly. Consider the words of Abraham Lincoln on the matter:

"President Lincoln was once criticized for his attitude toward his enemies. 'Why do you try to make friends of them?' asked an associate. 'You should try to destroy them.' 'Am I not destroying my enemies,' Lincoln gently replied, 'when I make them my friends?'"

The path to proper conservatism in government is to adopt conservative policies, explain them carefully to those who disagree, and promise to review them if things should "gang agley." It's not to condemn, demonize, or otherwise damage those who disagree. Neither is it to concede to them on every difference of opinion -- but we'll be at the end of that road come Tuesday, won't we?

patrick
Not disagreeing with you, but want to remind you that Clinton didn't have much choice because of Gingrich and company, which is how it's supposed to work, Congress passing the laws and the President executing them. Now the problem is getting those in Congress to stop using the Constitution as toilet paper and instead as that which guides them in a binding way in law making, not any political bloc or business interests, or special interests group. Note Bushes words "we cannot have an indifferent government". NO, SIR, we cannot a government indifferent to the Constitution and imposing their own agenda, instead of having that agenda dictated to them by the Constitution.
Something to think about; The Enumerated Powers Act which would require bills to cite their Constitutional authority has not been passed. Why? Well we know why? This is something we should call on Cngress to immediately rectify.

more to think on
Going with the assumption that most here are conservatives I make an appeal. That is to consider that the Republican Party is not conservative and is showing no particular inclination to correct that, a la McConnell and Boehner among others. Let us no longer look to this party for Constitutionality but join ranks with others whose platforms seem to indicate that are not fringe but groups that truly are interested in getting elected people who will adhere to what the Constitution lays out as our form of government. This needs to be done en masse, so that these parties will swell and carry weight. I am giving 3 links to parties that look good, and I myself intend to join the America First Party.

Wanted: A Real Leader
We need a shock-and-awe president like Lyndon Johnson, only a really conservative CIC who actually believes in the virtues of conservatism. W mucked it up but it started with his father and his idiotic remark, "Read my lips, no new taxes," just before he raised taxes.

LBJ was the liberals' SOB and we conservative Republicans need an SOB in the White House. I liked Giuliani after what he achieved in NYC but unfortunately he couldn't run a competent campaign or find someone who could.

I believe Obama will turn out to be a pawn of the left after first trying, and failing,to achieve control of Congress. One thing is for sure: Every decision he makes will be in line with his goal of being reelected.

Clinton signed welfare reform
after twice vetoing it, after it was thrice passed without a single dem vote.

Conservative Republican Legislators,

Obama voters have reduced your numbers to the point that the liberals don’t even need RINO votes to pass everything they want, and that’s bad. It’s at the point where Nancy Ex-pelosi-ve is eliminating rules that allow you to have any effect. We need to get Conservatives back in the majority in Congress

WHAT ALL OF YOU MUST DO FROM NOW ON IS UNANIMOUSLY VOTE AGAINST EVERY BILL AND TAX THAT LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT VOTE FOR ANYTHING LIBERALS PROPOSE!!! DO NOT GO ALONG TO GET ALONG WITH THE LIBERALS!!! DO NOT GO TO THEIR PARTIES!!! OPPOSE THE LIBERALS IN EVERY WAY!!! JOINING LIBERALS IN ANYTHING IS SELLING OUT AMERICA!!! THEY ARE NOT YOUR FRIENDS!!! THEY ARE YOUR AND AMERICA’S WORST ENEMIES, AND WILL DO ANYTHING THEY CAN TO DESTROY BOTH!!!

You cannot stop their bills or even slow them down beyond calling for roll call votes for them. Make everything they pass totally theirs. What you will be doing is getting on record as opposing all the destructive liberal bills.

When all these liberal actions make things much worse, as they will, you can point at the record and show the people that none of you had anything to do with them, and that you had no control over their passage, that all this destruction was caused by liberals.

Then you can tell the people about the tax elimination plan that you proposed that was kept from a vote by the liberals, and other bills that you proposed. You did not vote for the Algore hoax which multiplied the cost of everything many times, and made energy and home heating inaccessible.

Welcome Roland Burris into the Senate. Treat him well. Show him how miserably the liberals treated him. Maybe he will vote conservatively. It won’t hurt to try.

A Presidential Coup
Wouldn't any red-bloodied American wish to be in B.Hussein's shoes? To be as a king with a bank at your disposal.

What other president has been given the keys to the kingdom and a blank check at his fingertips? Given to him by both parties,so neither can carp if he tosses it out a window.

Whatever wild orgy he and his administration have with his largesse,no one can complain. It was a gift given to him by Republicans and Democrats. Talk about supplying the weapon to be be slain with.

conservative
"So you should go ahead and implement nothing but genuinely conservative ideas."

Conservative , conservative, ... Bush ain't no stinkin conservative.

GW, Identity theif !!
Like one of his beloved illegal alien guests Bush is an identity thief. He ran up a huge debt on liberal programs and left America holding the bill. In the process he has trashed our conservative credit rating with the American people. It is now laughable when anyone from the GOP tries to claim that they are the party of small government. Conservatives have taken the blame for every iota of his incompitence.

Being Conservative is Simple
Just keep your promise that you made to uphold and defend the Constitution.

Let's not fool ourselves about Reagan.
He quadrupled the national debt, made a mess of Lebanon and Iran/Contra, and gave amnesty to about 3 million illegal aliens.

Not much of a "conservative" to anyone except the scummy politicians (Dem and GOP) who invoke his name to get votes.

American Conservatism
Bush is the quintessential American Conservative and was elected as such enjoying huge support from the Religious Right, AIPAC, Business Lobbyists, The Heritage Foundation, and other groups who want to marginalize Constitutional Protections for wcitizens. To argue that he is not Conservative is laughable.
Bush is true to form with the naked goals of Conservative Philosophy such as:

1:Reward the wealthy and punish the poor. Bush's tax cuts for billionaires, use of outsourcing to cut down unions and insourcing illegals (a Reagan trick) to impoverish American families has always been a goal of Conservatives.

2:Deny universal healthcare. Conservatives believe that health care should be managed in an exclusionary system run by overpaid CEOs for huge profits and the benefit of the wealthy. For those who don't have money..tough luck.

3:Violate the Constitution. Bush used signing statements to abrogate Congress, approved the use of torture to sully the reputation of our nation, suspended habeas corpus to deny citizens rights to a fair trial, and used illegal wire tapping as wire voyeurism to intrude upon the lives of innocent private citizens and violate FISA. Conservatives view American citizens as serfs and do not believe in human or Constitutional Rights instead they prefer theocracy.

4:Award $700 Billion tax payer giveaway to banks and Wall Street theives who looted shareholders and brought down the economy. (See point #1 about punishing the poor and rewarding the rich)
5: Use discretionary war to create an artifical emergency and seize greater executive power. The war in Iraq is an illegal war of aggression and a violation of our agreement with the Geneva Convention. Additionally, it has strengthened Al Quada, bankrupted our nation, squandered our military, and made America look weak and incompetent and immoral in the world. Conservatives almost always put their self interest ahead of national interest and feign patriotism to mask their motives.

Bush and Democrats
One of the reasons the Democrats have been so successful in criticizing Bush is that he usually doesn't engage in the sniping and partisanship. He makes decisions based on serving the country more than on serving his party. So, it is no surprise he would help Obama get a jump on his administration, as this serves the people.

Bush the 'Rovite'
Still some people cant get it right about Bush and where his politics comes from. Still the CINO crowd trys to blame liberals for what has happened to the GOP and the Bush Presidency. Who killed cocke robin?
Carl Rove killed G Bush, with some help from Cheney, Woolfwitz and Rumsfeld. Drove his credibility right into the ground and now Rove is off telling audiences about how it will work out if they stay tuned to drink the CINO cool aid. NEOCON lime. The 'con' stands for sucker.
Liberals just saw the crap a little before the rest of the country. Liberals could explain it better since they had been taking notes. Liberals knew where the bodies lie, and believe me, there are some more to be dug up. But you guys just keep on running into the canon (believe)of the enemy, keep on strapping on a bomb (lie)to take out a liberal. You wont see the forementioned ministers of Neocon doing the work. Just keep on drinking the elixir for CINO Carl Rove et al and be a marter. Be a good soldier.

First...
you summed it up for me. I Like the factuality of your argument. It was 2004 when those thoughts came to me.

Kermudjin
Yeah, Bush never played that poitical game.

Good thing that all the people from the Justice Dept. who had to pass "party" test and answer questions about their political loyalty didn't realize the above.

Because if they realized just how apolitical Bush was then thse US Attorney's who got fired would not have had to cost a great Attorney General...Bush pal Alfredo Gonzalez...to get fired and almost charged with crimes. Right?

Lenards' Links
Thankyou Lenard for those three links, which I will immediately check out; I truly believe that the Liberals are this countrys' most malignant and pernicious enemy by far - frankly, I would be up for a big ol' tea party any time! It's sad to see how so-called Conservatives have prostituted their core beliefs for their own self interest, and it is definately high time that those of us who genuinely love and respect our Constitution and Bill of Rights need to find a new home. I would be honored to play a part, no matter how small, to organize as many patriots as possible around your great idea!

Tea Party summed it up, nicely for me
First and No$, it's always interesting to get a liberal loon's perspective of conservatism, but you'll have to peddle your papers somewhere else, boys! I also agree with MR SHOUT IT OUT Ron from PA, we need true conservatives in the Congress to make a clear line between Repubs and Dems. That was the problem with Johnny McAmnisty. He was just Liberal Dem lite, and too old to boot.

However, the fun will start Tues. Richardson (pay to play) for Commerce Sec is gone. The Treasury sec cheats on his taxes (and is in charge of the IRS) Pit Bull Emmanuel is not returning Gov Blago's calls, and Hellary (with Bill) is running the State (with God only knows skeletons ready to pop up world wide) And we haven't even got to Reid/Pelosi congress!
Grab your popcorn, sit back and let the fun begin!

Not a Conservative
I always love writers that use the word "conservative" in the same sentence as Bush. A true conservative believes in "conserving" the Constitution as written and as the founder's intended. That label has never, ever applied to George W. Bush. He is a globalist, and the reason he is willing to help Obama is because Obama, with his campaigns in Europe and his socialized "European" health care ideas is also a globalist. As are six of his top eleven cabinet members, all members of he Council on Foreign Relations, which is funded by the bankers on the Federal Reserve, the international banking cartel.

These columnists really need to fact check, and start writing truth not fiction.

Happiness
I recently had an online discussion with a liberal who was appalled that I don't see happiness as a reasonable life objective. I suspect that this is the real difference between liberals and conservatives.

Happiness is a nice feeling, but is hardly the be all and end all of life. To seek after it as your main goal in life is selfish and ultimately a fool's errand.

Some people are just naturally happy people, even during great strife. Others are never happy, no matter how blessed they may be.

I suspect that most of the problems in life, such as addiction, illicit sex, divorce, abortion, material greed and naked ambition, are based on misguided efforts to simulate the feeling of "happiness".

Am I wrong about this? It seems to anger a lot of people.

Taxation without representation
We are, folks, back to how it was when our country first began, citizens who are taxed to death and still have no real representatives for us in Washington. How do we get out of this mess? We certainly cannot leave it up to the president or the congress as it was these two entities that got us in this mess. Our first mistake was letting government take money out of our paychecks. Taxes should only be paid by personal check so that everyone can really see just how much of their hard earned money is going to Washington to be spent by people like drunken sailors on a two-day weekend and I don't want to disparage drunken sailors because at least they get something for their money. We the people are getting screwed and do not even get to feel good about it. We have not been represented well for a long time and as long as congress can raid our paychecks anytime it wants more money we have no recourse. Even when you vote for someone who says he is against more taxes he ends up raising them even higher. I am sick of it. I am for the Fairtax where everybody pays their fair share including illegals, travelers to our country and anyone who purchases anything here. We could keep our whole paycheck and use it as we see fit. Read the Fairtax book. Don't just say it won't work. We need something drastic and we need it soon. We are being financially ruined by people who do not know what they are doing.

Socialism does not work
By the way, socialism has not and never will work, but we will be inaugurating the most socialist president we have ever had in this country January 20th. Hold on to your wallets if you can. You aint seen nothing yet.

Capitalism's failures create Socialism
Capitalism is an economic failure if judged by the overall welfare and happiness of our nation and people.Capitalism's failures are systemic and uncorrectable and naturally create Socialism to correct for the weltering of abuses and inefficiencies and hardship it creates for the great majority of citizens trying to earn a living and provide for their familes.

If Capitalism worked our nation would have a balanced budget, (if not a budget surplus), jobs for all legal citizens to earn a living wage, affordable and universal health care, healthy food and safe drugs(not Chinese imports), and affordable heating and housing so citizens would not go cold or homeless.

If Capitalism actually worked America would not need to:
*import illegal aliens and pay sub-minimum wage in cash under the table and undercut American workers and their families,
*give welfare to those who cannot make it on $6.15 and hour while CEO's rake in hundreds of millions for incompetence and greed
*Require citizens to take on huge credit card debt to stay economically afloat
*Allow banks, hedge fund managers and Wall Street Thieves to fleece shareholders of their retirement and then reach into the American tax payers pocket for a $700 Billion bonus to pay off CEO bonuses and cover their malfeasance even as American wealth evaporates.

Folks, Capitalism does not work. Under Bush, most Americans have be reduced to "Citizen Serfs" and are much worse off than they were 8 years ago. That's not progress.

Since Capitalism doesn't work and creates far more problems then it solves, why should'nt Socialism replace it? Why stick with a system that demonstrably ruins our nation impoverishes 90% of working people and only rewards wealthy elites who neither need nor deserve an extra billion in their bank account?

cleverness
isn't what you are describing the basis of ayn rands' philosophy?self interest to the detriment of the weak?social darwinism?lassaiz faire capitalism?in other words the platform of today's republican party.

Stunned with blinders...
Disagreement qualifies as adversary. Typical attitude for life as sport position. Nothing that I said contradicts what happened. Most of what I said occurred right in front of the nations eyes and R\Pres Bush mentioned very recently as regretful, without naming names. That will come later in the books. Capitalism will out.
I am not a liberal, but if it makes you feel good to swing with the put down, fine. Habits are difficult to check. Just remember, the sand into which you place your head is only so deep.
And I am certain that the windmills to slay are only limited by the curious imagination promulgated by the 'Rovian' mindset so well intrenched into the 'rightista' soldiers that yet survive.
Take some comfort that the true liberal get no pass or break from my take on the situation. Extremists at both poles have much to learn and much to regret. Striving for improvement by applying disparate methods is one thing - making the opposition a pinata for bashing like a ten year old is another. The Dems have some of them too. The leaders of Senate and House have some growing up to do. My prediction is that they will, or will be put into 'time out' (game over) by the voters that matter.

Success?
"What’s unclear is why Bush would want to help Obama get off to a successful start."

You have got to be kidding me. If Obama succeeds - we succeed. If he fails - we fail.

Perhaps it was not the intent but, if we define success as getting the economy out of the crapper, then wanting Obama to fail for partisan political reasons is downright unpatriotic.

David ...
R Reagan said " you would surprised what can be accomplished if you don't mind who gets the credit."

The neocon crowd loves to quote the guy, but forgot to include this one.

reply to First
An exceptional and concise summary of some of the most glaring features of American conservatism. For TH conservatives: this is what concervatism is in the real world, not the world of your ideological imaginations. Conservatism is about the powerful keeping power, about the rich getting richers, and about all of the policies of government that facilitate these goals. The 'conservative' espoused by TH readers is the fantasy creation of ideologues who studiously ignore how the world works. If you want to consider yourselves real conservatives, you've got to have the stones to stand up and defend what First (and I) are criticizing.

Bush was NEVER a conservative
Was not, is not, and will not be...Just like his daddy before him. "W" is one of those neo-conservatives with a dash bit of "national greatness conservative" for flavor.

Neocons are nothing more than liberals who like their babies live. Like Democrats, Neocons only like guns when they're used in the furtherance of empire and the quelling of perceived "rebellions."

There hasn't been a conservative in the republican party for so long that no one knows what "conservatism" means.

Sure, you can throw out Buckley's name, or even Reagan's.

Just remember it was Buckley who claimed we need a "totalitarian bureaucracy," and Reagan who claimed we should export democracy and freedom around the world.

Forgetting for a moment that these United States were founded as a REPUBLIC...NOT some piddling domocracy (what do you think we are...a bunch of greek savages?)...
...
...It's STILL not my job to pay for the care, feeding, clothing, housing, education, health care, retirement, sexual gratification, or infanticide on demand of my neighbor, much less someone living in some other state...and MUCH less, someone living half a world away.

Leave me the eff alone! Let me succeed or fail on my own merits. Let me take care of my family...NOT yours. You wanna give all your money away to some freak who thinks poop in a bucket is art, or some unemployed $1ut who wants to be a repository for every dead-beat aspiring father in the neighborhood...
...Go ahead, I'm going to keep my money.

First & Gestell
What 1st describes is not Capitalism but the application of a certain ideology to capitalism. See my previous posts today. The Rovian notion of survival of the fittest aka Neocon & AynRand in the 21st century, has been implanted into the mindset of many of the leaders and business management in this country. One of the identifiers of those who have installed and run this program is the MBA degree. MBA = my bank account. (Pres 43 is not a lawyer but has an MBA. And not being a lawyer he doesnt know good from bad, but will in short order.)
First's post supposes too many normative arguments that, by definition, are unknowable. Meaning, the 'theory' that if capitalism worked we wouldnt have the stated problems. Truth is-there is no way to verify that statement.
Capitalism is not the system that I understood and worked for 20 years. Starting in the late 90's IPOs sprang up from no where. Companies had no plan to make a profit, they existed on the sales of stock. Then the dotcom crash of 2001. Still the companies carried on with the same modus operendi of the Ponzi scheme of raising money to pay previous investors. The rest is recent history. This explains why there is no confidence in the markets - the banks are dishonest and do not trust each other. DUH! They each know the secrets.
Capitalism must return to the model in the fifties and sixties. The value of the stock reflects the business model that the company has its assets under control and is paying operating expenses out of income, not stock sales.

First & Gestell cont...
Finally, the world enjoys what success it has because the American system worked. All other systems depend upon American success. The greed and opportunism of the MBA boomer generation has temporarily suspended that belief in American productivity. It is the job of the next generation to take from the boomers the best they offered and leave the rest behind. The change we can use isnt what Obama has been talking about, it is far more meaningful and powerful. It is the EXCHANGE of generational ideas and fortitude.
Ladies and gentlemen - keep your fork, the best is yet to come.

The Following Are NOT Conservatives
despite all claims to the contrary by the GOP:

1.) Rush Limbaugh
2.) Sean Hannity
3.) Ann Coulter
4.) Newt Gingrich
5.) Bill O'Reilly
6.) Michael Gallagher
7.) Many of the pundits on TownHall
8.) George Bush
9.) George Herbert Walker Bush
10.) Karl Rove
11.) George Will
12.) William Kristol
13.) Charles Krauthammer
and many others.

Here are some True Conservatives for the most part - those who "get it" or are starting to "get it":

1.) Ron Paul
2.) Lou Dobbs
3.) Chuck Baldwin - Constitution Party Presidential candidate
4.) Darrell Castle - Constitution Party VP
5.) Former 12-year GOP Congressmen from Indiana, Hostetler - WHO VOTED FOR THE CONSTITUTION PARTY CANDIDATE, CHUCK BALDWIN!
6.) Glenn Beck
7.) Pat Buchanan
8.) Tom Tancredo(although he voted for the bailout???)
9.) Duncan Hunter
10.) Senator DeMint
11.) Senator Shelby
12.) Michael Savage

True Conservatives do not compromise American Sovereignty, would never under any circumstances support Illegal Immigration, would not under any circumstances support the bailouts ad nauseum, and do not believe in endless, un-Constitutional nation-building and policing the world, would withdraw America's troops from all occupied countries which is un-Constitutional, do not engage in un-Constitutional foreign alliances, NAFTA, CAFTA, GATT, the North American Union, or immoral, pre-emptive wars, but do believe in maintaining a strong military and protecting our nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic.

The GOP has completely MIS-DEFINED this term because the GOP really NEVER was a Conservative party EVER; it has always been just a ploy to get re-elected off the gullible, un-educated American electorate.

Take Back the Government
reminds me of the Western movie where the drunk cowboy gets thrown off the coach for bullying and screams at the fading vehicle, " But I bought a ticket! "

TBG you sure did buy the ticket. Now what? No horse, and no home to go to.

To No$
Yes, a Constitutionalist seems to have no home in American government anymore, sad to say, but there will be a new day when all of the riffraff is cleaned out of DC. I do not think the American People will have enough sense to educate themselves on this matter, and it may already be too late anyway. I'm convinced America is under God's Judgment, but America is too ignorant - even her churches are too ignorant - to know this. It is written in Ezekiel that if you muck with Israel, you are mucking with the Lord God Almighty. God specifically makes no idle threat when He states that "if any nation divides my land, Israel, I will seek to destroy that nation."
It also clearly points out in Ezekiel that Gaza is part of the land of Israel despite what the UN idiots and the blithering idiots with the Mickey Mouse Journalism degrees in the MSM may say. America's Judgment began in 1991 when American foreign policy toward israel was changed to pursue a Palestinian State. The Lord God Almighty was so incensed that on the very day George H.W. Bush gave his speech announcing this policy to the world in Madrid - October 30th, 1991(see link below of actual speech) that on the same day the so-called "Perfect Storm"(see link below showing date of storm and NOAA account of Bush's house being attacked) which completely defied meteorological science hit George H.W. Bush's house hard in Kennebunkport, Maine. That was God's stern warning to George H.W. Bush, but George H.W. Bush paid no heed. Soon, Hugo, Andrew, & Katrina followed as Clinton and his son pursued the policies even further. We also had the enormously massive multiple tornadoes in the Midwest, the massive floods in the Midwest, and the earthquake in Northridge. These were all related to US dividing the land of Israel. 911 was also a judgment on this land, and so has been the situation with Wall Street and the election of this Socialist, anti-American nutball.

God's Judgments cannot be undone with prayer if they are pronounced already in Scripture; God cannot lie. The American churches are foolishly tryingto pray this all away - not even realizing what's going on. Therefore, I'm just waiting for the terrorist suitcase nukes to go off in DC, NYC, LA and other cities; that really may be America's last hope to redeem her future. Until then, I bide my time like The High Plains Drifter knowing one day there will be justice, and it sure won't be pretty. Heaven help the nation that no longer fears the Lord God.

As America Has Done to Israel
is an excellent book out that shows how America is under God's Judgment ever since we pursued this policy of dividing the land of Israel. The author shows side-by-side headlines in the New York Times and in USA Today newspapers showing American foreign policy maneuvers against Israel and God's Judgment REPEATEDLY in most instances on the very same day! This is not coincidence though many of you will choose to believe it is. Among others, this is precisely one of the main reasons wh ywe should elect CHRISTIAN Presidents and Congressmen and Senators WHO KNOW THE WORD OF GOD - not the Bushes, Clintons, and Obamaniacs who just carry Bibles on Sunday for politically expedient photo-ops!

You really don't understand conservatism if you believe that it is Social Darwinism, and Ayn Rand's Objectivist philosophy is very different than conservatism, which is based on a Judeo-Christian ethic that Rand despised.

Social Darwinism: everyone ought to sink or swim on their own merits. No help for anyone, since it would enable to weak to dilute our gene pool. There is no actual morality, only survival.

Objectivism: no man should work on behalf of another or receive anything which he has not paid for. Helping is futile, and self-interest trumps all. Selfishness is a virtue. Believes in an abstract morality based on treating everyone and everything as what they are.

Conservatism: God is the source of all morality. We are all beneficiaries of His grace, and should pass that grace on to others as our conscience dictates. No man should be forced to give charity under compulsion, but rather should do so freely and cheerfully.

Liberalism: all men have the right to receive the necessities of life. Those who produce more than they need should have their wealth appropriated by the state and distributed to the poor according to their needs. Charity should not be necessary, and poverty can be eliminated by government.

It seems odd to charge people who generally reject Darwin with "Social Darwinism".

My point is that capitalism in the real world necesarily morphs into the system you're criticizing. Remember, the changes you're opposed to were made by people seeking profits. Capitalism is morally neutral; whatever allows people running companies to make money, that is not prohibited by the legal system of a country, is OK. The financial structures that have developed over the past 20plus years represent capitalism at work. The system conservatives so often celebrate is unreal; it is a creation of theory that doesn't fit what's really out there.

cleverness...
Yeah, you may be correct about that "happiness" thing being way over-rated.

Maybe we need to remove that "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" nonsense from our nation's Declaration of Independence. What did those guys know about it anyhow. Right?

Bush was never conservative
George was the single biggest threat to the American economy in the past eight years, not the "past two years." The changes in this country over the past eight years aren't capitalism at work, it has been greed at work. Now that Washington insider fat cats have made their pile at the expense of American savers, American homeowners, and American workers (if any Americans still have jobs that haven't been shipped to China), we can start deciding how we are going to survive in our new socialist country (the new capitalism described by Gestell from Taxachusetts).
