Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

If elected, Barack Obama might make history in more ways than one. He will be the country's first black president, but also -- perhaps as consequentially -- could be its first transnational president.

Obama's personal history defies categorization, which makes it so alluring. Born in Hawaii to a black Kenyan father and white Kansan mother and raised for a time in Indonesia, Obama embodies the crosscurrents of globalization and the remarkable dynamism of an American society open to people of talent from any background.

Obama tells his story to emphasize its quintessential American-ness, a tale of how an outsider -- like so many before him -- came to live the American dream. This is all to the good. But at times it's a post-nationalism that comes to the fore.

His overseas tour -- punctuated by his Berlin speech before 200,000 -- showed him to be a potentially powerful American emissary to the world. It also suggested that Obama styles himself the world's emissary to us -- a discomfiting role for a would-be American president.

In Berlin, Obama called himself, unironically, a "citizen of the world." The world, however, issues no passports, nor does it have citizens. The world in the way Citizen Obama imagines it -- as a global community to which we all belong -- doesn't exist. Only backpacking hippies, devotees of the Davos World Economic Forum and U.N. bureaucrats speak this way.

Berlin at times sounded as much like Obama's coming-out party as the candidate of a transnational progressivism -- in which global norms are more important than sovereign nations -- as his audition as commander in chief.

In Obama's telling, a triumph of American arms and will during the Cold War was transmuted into a victory of a united world. He railed against "walls" of all kinds, even though walls are useful in dividing hostile communities (see, most recently, Israel and Iraq) and, in the form of borders, are the most basic stuff of nationhood. He addressed "people of the world" and told them "this is our moment, this is our time," as if the impossibly disparate people of the world can ever have a common will.

Obama feels fit to speak for the world because of his background. Presidential candidates once relied on the myth of the log cabin to convey their connection to the common folks. Obama's log cabin has gone global as a symbol of his oneness with the world's majority.

This is why he brandishes his upbringing and family as a foreign-policy credential. In explaining why his foreign-policy experience outstrips that of long-serving officeholders who know foreign leaders, Obama said a few months ago, "When I speak about having lived in Indonesia for four years, having family that is impoverished in small villages in Africa -- knowing the leaders is not important -- what I know is the people."

Transnational progressivism is closely allied to multiculturalism. Both share a hostility to American exceptionalism and seek to rein it in, by imposing global rules on the U.S. and by transcending its traditional culture (as defined by history, symbols and language). Obama, who for so long painfully sought an identity and initially found it in a black-nationalist church, clearly has affinities running in this direction.

Consider his gaffes: The world won't stand for us driving and eating and air-conditioning our homes as we please. We should worry less about immigrants learning English and more about teaching our kids Spanish. Gun-owning, Bible-believing people in rural areas are bitter. The flag pin is an inadequate symbol of patriotism. When Obama briefly auditioned his own presidential seal, "e pluribus unum" got bumped.

These are all hints of Obama's instincts, but he knows he has to check them. He has restored a flag pin to his lapel, ditched the fake seal and in Berlin was careful to declare himself also "a proud citizen of the United States" and defend America's global leadership. He'd be wise to do more. In November, the world doesn't have a vote.

Does it matter?
On another (off-topic) subject. Does anyone else besides me find it odd that the two candidates we have been told to vote for are both CFR members and support their globalist agenda? So it seems to me it does not matter who "wins" in November. The only winners will be the New World Order complete with One World Government. Remember the European Union started out as just "free-trade" agreements between countries and now those countries have lost their sovereignty. America is being led down the same path.

What Mr. Lowry said
It's clear that Barack's trip gained him more frequent flier miles than foreign policy experience. I don't know what genius told him that his abbreviated world tour would fill the gaping hole in his resume, but it didn't work. For all Dubya's flaws (and even conservatives admit some of them), you always knew that his first priority was to protect this country and to look out for the interests of the United States. That's why Barack's Berlin speech struck the wrong note -- because it focused on how we as Americans can do more to make the Europeans like us. He was playing to the wrong crowd. He needs the trust of Americans, not the other citizens of the world....and the perceived premature victory lap was a bit much for me to swallow.

One other comment: I know we all have strong opinions about Barack Obama, and many of us are very much opposed to the idea of this man becoming President. But we should be focusing on the dangerous nature of his policy proposals and his inexperience, not on anything else, because this is the best argument against electing him President of the United States.

Great Internationalist.??.
.
This IS NOT even remotely a requirement for a president of the United States of America.

Oh, it's good to know what and how they think, but it's not good to join their crowd. Conflict of purpose and duty is evident when you do.

I am an Internationalist of sorts. I am bilingual and have traveled and lived and worked in many nations strictly as a private citizen, but I am not trying to become the president. Besides which I have no problem wearing the American flag nor in rejecting false political philosophies nor in standing up for my country when she needs me.

Semper Fi and Gung Ho dip sticks (that's some people).
.
.

Thanks Flagwaver
and Ohio will answer our nation's call....NObama will lose here!

Alot of hype
over nothing....

"God has wonderful plans for your life. Do you seek the counsel of others?

My child, listen to me and treasure my instructions. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding. Cry out for insight and understanding. Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure. Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. He grants a treasure of good sense to the godly. He is their shield, protecting those who walk with integrity.

Proverbs 2:1-7 NLT

These are WORDS of a TRUE leader!

The Messiah's Many Campaigns
The Great Barack will say anything he has to in order to pander for votes to the particular audience he's addressing at the moment. That's why he takes any position needed for right now. He has no "real" position because there is no "real" at all to The Great Messiah -- it's all smoke and mirrors.

The Great Messiah has no genuine feel for any audience other than the black racist criminal Chicago community in which he has traveled his entire life, except, perhaps, for the times he associated with the pointy- headed liberals of academe after completing his affirmative-action admission and "education."

The Great Messiah does not appreciate the hatred he stirs in real Americans when he ignores meeting with wounded military personnel, and only associates with them at all in order to gather photo-ops for his phony campaign.

All Hail The Great Phony! Pfffffffft!!!

One Dolt Hit The Nail on the Head
Opining...

What's wrong... with a President that appeals to people the world over, rather than to 50.1% of the American people?

Here we are as a country ALREADY having problems with keeping control of our borders & our sovereignty intact!

The Supreme Court has given Habeas Corpus to non-Americans...while some others on the court WANT to use laws established in OTHER COUNTRIES or in the World Court to decide US case law!!!

A man with a 50/50 shot at being our next president is speaking as "a citizen of the world"...

How long until we are hit with the idea that because OUR President is the Leader of the Free World OUR presidential (at least) elections should be World-Wide???
Maybe those votes WILL soon come from Rome, Mexico City, Frankfurt, etc...

This ONE ELECTION could very well determine how long before THAT happens!!

For God And Country
W/O=

1st Black President??
According to the "Nation of Islam," Lincoln was the 1st Black President. He was so Dark, that "Harper's" Magazine had a cartoon of him in "Arabian Nights" type garb, and the Caption called him "Abraham Africanus". I don't recall the name of his vice president, but he was a Quadroon [1/4 black], and it is reported that Lincoln was a Lot Darker than he. This Info comes from a Black Muslim pamphlet,[Nation Of Islam] titled, "The First Black President??" Several other Presidents are mentioned, that were most assuredly part "Black" [with footnoted documentation.] Sooo-- Obama can't even claim He is the first, --not according to Louis Farrakahn, His "Mentor." WHERE IS the Obamessiah's Father now, anyway? And, did Barrack claim Indonesian citizenship, as a Child?? Be Real Interesting to know.

the family as bona fides
I remember back in 1992 when it was accurately pointed out that Bill Clinton's foreign policy credentials derived entirely from his breakfasts at the International House of Pancakes. And now the Democrats are doing it again.

Barack Hussein's foreign policy credentials derive entirely from his immediate family's history. And the experience of the candidate's formative years has left him with a sentimental soft spot for our nation's sworn enemies.

Is that what America wants during a war with the God-cursed Mohammedans? A Mohammedan-loving president? I want a president who wouldn't even give them the benefit of the doubt.

Do you know what happens to leaders who love the enemy? I invite your attention to the examples of Andrew Johnson (1865-69) and Czar Peter III (1762).

Was four years of the Southerner-loving Andrew Johnson not enough of a lesson? Oh, right: most of Obama's supporters couldn't tell you who Johnson was, much less why he was hated by his fellow citizens.

Peter III inherited from his aunt an empire that was successfully concluding a war against his hero, Frederick the Great of Prussia. Peter promptly ended the war, gave back all of Russia's hard-won gains, and was subsequently murdered in a palace coup that put his wife on the throne.

Put that on your mirror and snort it, Senator.

citizenship
Barack must be having a good laugh...He passed himself off as a citizen of the world and he hasn't even proved he is a citizen of USA..His REAL birth certificate and so many other statistical papers are not available for public view.. He is either hiding the fact he might not qualify as an American citizen or his own geneology which is rumored to be Arabian..not to even mention his senate fnancial records of Illinois that he "losT".The truth is Baracks loss of memory and loss of important documents and financial records makes me question his ability to govern himself let alone the Usa.

for everyones facts
everyonesfacts writes: "What does it mean to be a citizen of the world - it means that
events that happen elsewhere (in other states) have a direct effect on your life in a different national state."

WRONG.
And YOU need a dictionary.

The dictionary defines the word "citizen" as: "A person who owes allegiance to a government and is entitled to protection from it."

Last I checked, I did NOT owe my allegiance to "the world." I have pledged my allegiance to the flag of the United States of America. And to the Republic for which it stands.

And after 9-11, it should be obvious to even the most naive Leftist that Americans cannot count on being protected by "the world." They are more likely to be murdered by it.

Tell you what. If you're ever traveling abroad, and you are kidnapped and threatened by al-Qaeda terrorists, ask "THE WORLD" to rescue you. Don't ask America to help you. You wouldn't appreciate it if she did.

jnik
Your ignorance and hate of conservatives is showing:

Age and Citizenship requirements - US Constitution, Article II, Section 1

No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States.

John McCain, although not much of a conservative, is a natural born citizen.

What's wrong ...
... with a President that appeals to people the world over, rather than to 50.1% of the American people? Do you not see that having the world on our side will make everything, from the war on terror to resuscitating the economy, easier?

And William, Dubya said he believed God wanted him to be President. That's about as egotistical as it gets.

What's wrong with being different?
Tear down walls? Who would want to? I respect and admire; even celebrate, the cultural differences we enjoy here in America. America would be less if we were all the same; not to mention boring. Problems? Of course we still have problems. When you have the cultural diversification we have all under one roof only a moron would not expect problems. Show me one African American that wants to be Caucasian American ! Show me one Caucasian American that wants to be Asian American! Show me one Asian American that wants to be Latino American! Show me one Latino American that wants to be African American. Italian, Irish, and on and on. Is the world any different? Mistake a Chinese for a Japanese or a Korean. What? They all look alike? Ignorance is curable, stupidity lasts forever! Obama wants us all equal under one world community, never going to happen, who would want to give up their culture, their heritage and for what?

EGO
This man has got to be one of the most egotistical pricks this world has ever seen. Wake up America before its to late!

OBLAHMA
shoed himself to be nothing but ignorant about history, America, people around the world, the force of nationalism, foreign policy, argument from strength, and substance of content -AGAIN.

Even Germany’s Stern magazine wasn't fooled by Mr. Cardboard coat-over-my-shoulder kool-aid kid, carried the headline "Barack Kant Saves the World."

One of their columnists, Florian Güssgen, wrote: "The man is perfect, impeccable, slick. Almost too slick … Obama's speech [NOT DELIVERED IN GERMAN????] was often vague, sometimes banal and more reminiscent of John Lennon's feel good song 'Imagine' than of a foreign policy agenda."

Obama is an embarrassment to the USA, but a dangerous dissembling self-centered, self-interested, power-hungry Soros socialist.
Obama must be rejected by Americans. Obama is anti-democracy and will nullify the Constitution and deny us the freedoms we arte guaranteed by it. American have to rise up and fight for this country and that mean NOBAMA!

I hate to be argumentative
but Bill Clinton was the first black president. Remember? Taking into account the Motor Voter Act of 1993, which encouraged voting by noncitizens, and the rush to create 1.3 million new citizens in 1995 and 1996 (180,000 of them without background checks), one could argue that Clinton was also the first transnational president. Obama's only original contribution is audacity. Even Clinton, whose ego defies measurement, waited until he'd been elected president of the United States to start campaigning for Kofi Annan's job.

jnik
Why stop at McCain? We should disqualify ANYONE born to a military person stationed outside the U.S. Why should we allow ANYONE even associated with someone willing to fight FOR the U.S. to participate in our federal government. And the child of such a person? No way!!

Correction and comment
1. Correction: If elected (ghastly thought!), Mr. Obama would not be "the first black president," he would be "the first half-black president."
2. Comment: Mr. Obama's resume contains nothing of substance. He has allegedly written two books, both of which are about himself, and beyond that, all he has done is read speeches. And, given his abysmal attempts at speaking without prepared speeches, leads me to believe that someone else writes his speeches.

Our first transnational...
Couldn't have said it better myself, Apollo

jnik,
..Hawaii can keep it's pineapples.

Mr. America Contest?
Barack Obama epitomizes the danger of Affirmative Action policies run wild. A product of a liberal program to, supposedly, correct past intolerance and racist policies he stands at the door of the presidency. He has no resume, no record of achievement, and no career achievements except for being the star exemplar of liberal Affirmative Action programs.

Contrast his resume with those of John McCain, Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, or even Hillary Clinton.

Com'on, Americans, are we stupid? Election of the president of the most powerful country in the world is a momentous decision, not a Miss, or Mr., America contest and certainly not a testament to the tolerance of Americans.

of course we are citizens of the world
whether you like it or not, or recognize it or not.

What does it mean to be a citizen of the world - it means that
events that happen elsewhere (in other states) have a direct effect on
your life in a different national state.

This ever happened recently?
Does it happen every day?
It does if you even have a small sense about how the economy
works. Or culture - especially if you live outside the U.S. I could
go on, but point made and imo proven.

sam
Your broken English is telling

transnational president
mr obama is a "citizen of the world", and the world swoons over obama. fine. let him be president of the world, but lets get an american for president of the usa

obama can be next president.

Barack Obama can be next president of U.S.A He is a cliché; he believes in good vibes and has no clue as to the task of leading the world's greatest economic and military superpower. Someone needs to force him to address that he is very hard working man. So every body wants to take oath of president in USA.

Barack Obama..Politician
So Barack,Michelle,Jeremiah,Phleagar and Farrahkan do not like America as it is. They have said so. Some in so many words. Some implied.

Soros & Co.can launder money from foreign places, add it to his billions and put on his little 'dog and pony'show. His star,Barry-o is rehearsed and the show must go on.

We must put a stop to this take-over. We cannot afford to give these people the reins of government to ruin what little freedom we have left. Obama wants to rule the world.Put him in the UN and kick them both out of the country.

Obama
"The world in the way Citizen Obama imagines it -- as a global community to which we all belong -- doesn't exist. Only backpacking hippies, devotees of the Davos World Economic Forum and U.N. bureaucrats speak this way."

Why hint around Rich? Obama is a globalist and for the NAU. He is for breaking the might of America and reducing us to just another province in the New World Order. Obama doesn't really like us or our country very much. He'll be happy to see to it that we do penance for our sins.

Only backpacking hippies, devotees of the Davos World Economic Forum and U.N. bureaucrats speak this way.????

If only it were so. CFR is the establishment. Rockefeller Republicans own the party now. Bush is on board and has been holding summits on integration under SPP.

The bad news is McCain is their stooge too. (But I'm guessing Rich already knows this.)

That's all well and good
It is great that Sarkozy was thrilled to see him, and it was great that the German people showed up 200k strong to hear him speak, but in the end it doesn't matter. What's the point of leading among European voters when you're trailing in Ohio? The people of Columbus have a vote in this election...the people of Cologne don't!

I think he was actually born in Africa.
Not Hawail. He is not a US citizen.

This is our moment? What - him?
The audacity of saying to the world, I am you moment, in effect. His books are so self promoting as is everything he does. He has an inferiority complex which he has been fighting all his life. The writer is right, "He has no clothes". I hope somone has vetted him to be certain he is a US Citizen. Would not surprise if her were not.
Don Jones

Obama has no clothes
Barack Obama stands for nothing. He is a cliche, he believes in good vibes and has no clue as to the task of leading the world's greatest economic and military superpower. Someone needs to force him to address that.

Dear Leader
History has taught us that leaders who seek to break down barriers between different groups and meld them into a unified global "we" inevitably end up with a problem. Not everybody wants to be part of the big lovefest; not everyone agrees with the philosophy of the elite leaders.

The leaders who have been successful in coming to power, and staying in power on a platform of unity have had to deal with those who disagree.

Stalin starved the Kulaks; Mao needed successive purges; Hitler achieved "one folk, one Reich, one Leader" at a tremendous cost; "Uncle Ho" put opponents in re-education camps.

It will be interesting to see what Obama is up to. My sense is that he will be very slick and smooth in implementing his totalitarian designs. He is perhaps the best at manipulating symbols and language since Hitler, but he is smoother. We will see.

Thanks, Mr. Lowry
Great article today!

That is the one thing most people forget: the world isn't voting for US President at all. I'm sure the world wishes it could.

And I thought the title of "The First Black President" was already taken?
