Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

It is the curse of Clintonism that it is associated with the Clintons.

A centrist-oriented Democratic politics that is pragmatic and economically literate is better than the alternatives: a fluffy politics of hope (Barack Obama) and angry politics of anti-corporate zeal (John Edwards). At least on paper.

For the champions of this otherwise preferable approach are Bill and Hillary Clinton. As individuals, they have their strengths and weaknesses, as do any talented, but flawed, politicians; as a team, they tend to be a roiling mess, with something to repel everyone lately.

Bill has supplemented Hillary's tightly wound discipline with his out-of-control ego, her off-putting devotion to script with his wild and dishonest improvisations, her inability to project warmth with his self-adoring affability. What they have always held in common is ambition and willingness to resort to any means -- sheathed in self-righteousness -- to achieve power.

Throughout the 1990s, their attacks were directed at people who were vulnerable by virtue of their status as allegedly self-interested women accusing Bill of misconduct, or as conservative politicians hated by the press, or as special prosecutors whose work was distasteful to the public. They all turn out to have been easier targets than Obama, a winsome African-American liberal.

The Clinton targets of the 1990s could be portrayed as aggressors. Obama's offense is opposing Hillary for the nomination, making the flailing attacks against him seem the product of an outraged sense of entitlement. Hitting Obama for a kindergarten essay is pathetic; knocking him by suggesting he once might have dealt drugs is pathetic and slimy.

The unbecoming broadsides against Obama can only remind people of what they disliked about the decade to which Hillary promises a glorious return. Along with the peace and prosperity that Hillary wants the public to associate with the 1990s came a "politics of personal destruction" (on both sides) that curdled into her husband's impeachment. All of that was the direct antecedent of the hate-filled and tiresome Bush wars. Hillary can't help being connected with the worst as well as the best of the 1990s, since she is married to them.

As potential first spouses, Obama has Michelle, an elegantly beautiful woman who would be the Jackie Kennedy of her husband's new media-conjured Camelot, while Edwards has Elizabeth, a combative cancer survivor. Hillary has Bill, a former president prickly about his legacy who will surely be tempted to try to make her presidency all about his vindication.

George W. Bush's presidency was made more psychologically complex by the fact that his father, George H.W. Bush, was one of his predecessors. Imagine if W. had had to try to run the government together with H.W. "Oedipal city," as his dad might have put it. A Hillary administration promises all that fraught emotional tension and more.

Even now, no one can quite figure out whether Bill is trying to sabotage her with his off-message bloopers, or is vesting everything in her victory as the ultimate vindication of self. What will his role be in her administration, how will it change with the vagaries of their marriage, and who will be right when they say conflicting things about policy?

Who knows, and who can blame anyone for wanting to think about something else? Clintonism delivered the White House to the Democrats twice in campaigns in 1992 and 1996 that hewed to the middle and made the party more appealing than it had been in decades. But no one else has picked up the mantle nationally.

Al Gore would have been the natural ideological successor in 2000, but angered by Bill's spectacularly irresponsible conduct in office, he distanced himself and lurched left. Since the left-wing base of the Democratic Party never liked the Clinton pragmatism, the only ones with support in the party strong enough to maintain a relative centrism are the Clintons themselves.

And so the devil's bargain: Clintonism comes only with the Clintons attached.

Hillary and Bubba
The Clintons disgraced the White House in so many ways that it still seems unbelievable. It seems that we never got to the bottom of most of the Clinton scandals thanks to the MSM. The MSM spun every scandal in favor of the Clintons and found it perfectly natural that Clinton had a 21 year old intern give him oral sex as he talked about national security on the phone. The MSM thought it was unbecoming to talk about Clinton's "private affairs."
The current rumor is that if elected, Hillary would appoint Bubba to the Supreme Court to get him out of the way.
Hillary is now saying how much she appreciates and honors the military. Talk about a 180,with Hillary and the draft dodger, they hated the military and probably still do. Bubba did his best to destroy it with his cut backs and chances are Hillary will pick up where he left off.
We should all be down on our knees praying that the Clintons do not get back into the White House.

Socialist, not Centrst, IMO
I dont' see any Centrist point of view in many of Hillary's statements over the years. It see her as more Socialist: "a million ideas we can't afford," A student of Saul Alinsky, etc.

But your 4th paragraph is a jewel at describing these two neurotic individuals.

Let's Hope
that the puffy man form Hope doesn't end up back in the White House. The two of them belong in the Big House. We should be ashamed that this county has produced these two people in politics.

Obtuseangler
You are wildly optimistic if you think anything, including an economic collapse, will dissuade these idiots from their headlong rush to a socialist workers' paradise.

I`ve posted this here before but we need to do more than write emails to each other and watch Lou Dobbs daily rant. The Republican Party is NOT interested in saving this nation and we must have a legitimate third party that will restore the supremacy of the Constitution...the real one that says the powers of the Congress are highly limited, and that the PEOPLE are endowed with unalienable rights.

Hillary My Favorite
Here are the "isms" associated with Hillary, Socialism and Communism. There is no question about her political ideology--she is a Marxist. That puts her solidly outside the ideology on which our Constitution is based and positions her diametrically opposite anything that can be read or gleaned from the Federalist Papers. The purpose of the Federalist Papers was to serve as a primary source for interpretation of the Constitution, as the 85 articles clearly outline the philosophy and motivation for establishing our system of government. No where can Hillary's ideology or her political convictions be supported by the intent of our Founders in creating this Republic. Hillary is clearly a whore that has been bought, groomed, and nourished by the people on the Communist left like George Soros.

Carefully ignoring her senate record with 100% approval from liberal groups, they are redefining her for the nomination for the presidency by planting her in the middle as she also is doing. Nothing can hide even for the casual reader how very liberal is her actual record.

It truly is amazing that ADA and other leftist voting groups can give Shrillary 100% approval, but the MSM helps her feign a move to the center because they love the Clintonistas. Black leaders KNOW that she is a big entitlement government lib, so she is very popular among that herd. She surreptitiously supports more ILLEGALS getting licenses, etc., because that is subterfuge for voter fraud. Even liberal New York recoiled at that shell game attempt 3:1. The ILLEGAL alien crisis will be pivotal in this election IF the electorate correctly smells out the tacit conspirators like Regularization Rudy, Shrillary, the Huckster, and Sen. Juan McQuisling.

"The people" had better wake up and consider what they're wishing for. Because sooner or later, like any household which, on credit, spends themselves into bankruptcy, the United States economy is going to come crashing down.

When that happens, "The People" will blame everyone but themselves for their own idiocy."

Well said, Bob. I'm starting the think an economic crisis in this Country may be just the cleansing event we need to remember what is, and is not, important. Sort of like a family experiencing a power outage and having to talk to each other. Ecomonically practical policies will be a necessity for survival, and the socialist direction we are on will have to be reversed. Also, we will have to curtail the huge foreign aid programs we engage in. (Money to Mexico and the Palestinians?) The tax revenue to support it will evaporate.

Arcman and Wildwest
Excellent posts. As I have posted in the past, this country just might survive the 60's. Hopefully, Hillary is the last gasp of that self-centered, leftist elite generation. They have already taken control of public and secondary education, most of the court systems, the mainstream media in the country and established PC as the new state religion, yet as a nation we have managed to keep from lurching into socialism. It would be best if Hillary fails to be elected, but if she becomes POTUS (as I believe she will), we can probably survive 4 or even 8 years of her "rule". She is a proven failure as a leader or an administrator and her gigantic ego will prevent her from "hiring" any really intelligent people to assist her socialist, far left goals. I doubt if she can really accomplish anything, she never has! Hell, we have survived 8 years of the incompetence of the Bush Admin with the likes of Cheney, Rumsfield, Bremer, Gonzales and that FEMA guy, etc. (some good SC picks, however); we can probably survive the final Clinton act.

I look forward to the end of the hangover from the 60's - of course, it looks like the ignorant and greedy baby boomer financial wizards may destroy the country with no outside help. Yep, I hope I live long enough to see the end of the 60's and the decline of baby boomer power and the end of the era of the "arrogance of ignorance".

lest any forget the clinton's have always been the 60's hippy's last chance at getting their agenda enacted. The 60's crowd gained power prior to clinton getting elected and still think their view opn life should be enacted. With the missus clinton it is their last chance to impliment their pathetic reworking of society. The hiipy's believed that society needed to be reworked but had no clue on how it could be done. But unlike bubba who merely wanted to be loved his missus is a true believer. She is fully in tune with the idea tyhat socialism is the answer to all of societies problems. Just listyen to her speak and one hears more taxes, more govt and more govt direction and all will find happiness. Ability no longer matters only allegiance to the clinton's and their view on how life should be. Thbus earners get punished for success and the great unwashed can look forward to more handouts as a reward for being losers. But all accomplished under the divine guidance of the clinton's and their enablers

Smart and Bill
Smart and Bill Clinton usually don't do together well, but one thing to be said about Bill is he was a masterful politician. The Hildabeast is not. Bill's presidency was successful because he actually did just enough to make it look like he was doing something, and just little enough to not screw things up too badly. Bill is a politician. Hillary is an ideologue. She actually believes the drivel she talks about and that is much more dangerous. The problems is that if any of the three Dem's get elected, we will find ourselves sliding on the slippery slope of socialism without even realizing it is happening.

"The People" deserve
Well said Bob C. I only hope that "The People" wake up and realize the decline toward socialism to which this nation is sliding before it is too late.

"The People" deserve
Well said Bob C...I'm hoping that "The People" wake up soon to the slow and calculated socialization of this nation.

the clinton's
with the clinton's it will always be about them. These two self centered egoists put themselves and their ambitions ahead of everything else including this country. But with the missus clinton running for office it is more akin to another pig in the poke. With bubba he delivered very little in the way of directing the country and his missus talks only of oncreased taxes and huge govt growth. The country survived bubba and will certainly survive his missus. But will americans like what the clinton's leave behind. The drfive for power is one thing but with the clinton's there has always been the feeling that it is always about them and their belief in themselves and not what is best for america. Do we really nned someone as potus that doesn't believe in how great america is and can be. This is one message conspicuously absent from the missus clinton.

JD's handsome son
I think there is a typo in your post above.

You write of the Clintons, "...cheap, sordid, without merit, phoney, shallow, corrupt, ..." So far so good.

But then you have a typo. "...fake white trash."

You should have written, "...fake, white trash."

These people are authentic, ginuwine, real-deal, dyed-in-the-spandex white trash.

Barry

"The People" deserve...
...the government they get.

"The people" whine about big corporations leaving America and taking their jobs overseas or south, yet at the same time they vote for candidates who promise to come down hard on corporations, close all their tax loopholes and, as the economic genius, John Edwards threatens, ..."take their power away from them." If corporations are so damned bad, why not just ban them outright?

"The people," are willing to sacrifice the economy of the United States for short-term entitlements which they now believe they have a "right" to. With a nine trillion dollar national debt hanging over their children's heads, they vote in candidates who promise to be the most fiscally irresponsible.

"The People" are so incredibly stupid that they are voting into office hordes of politicians, like Bush, Kennedy, Pilosi, Reid and hundreds of others, who're actively and consciously trying to make the United States of America a second or third rate hellhole like Mexico, France, China, Korea or Venezuela.

"The people" had better wake up and consider what they're wishing for. Because sooner or later, like any household which, on credit, spends themselves into bankruptcy, the United States economy is going to come crashing down.

When that happens, "The People" will blame everyone but themselves for their own idiocy.

Centrist????
“A centrist-oriented Democratic politics”; that phrase demonstrates how far to the left the Republican elites have become. Personally, I know of no “centrist Democratic politicians”. They ran all of them out of the party years ago. Shrillary is left of Karl Marx and the rest of the candidates are even left of her. This is because the Republicans have moved so far to the left that they occupy the old Democrat positions of socialism lite, so the Democrats of today must go even further to the left.

lodestar
Good post, preaching to the choir in my case, though.

Shrillary not wearing well
When her people say, "When does running for President qualify one to be President?" to mock Obama, I reply: When did being a power-hungry, self-aggrandizing, animal who simply stood by her man (what was she gonna' do otherwise?!-- would Shrillary MATTER AT ALL w/o Slick Willie?!) only to snag a sympathy-vote Senate seat qualify a leftist, phony witch to be Prez?!

Shrillary chose trained attack dog Wolfson to be her key campaign guy-- it says a lot. The crap coming out against Obama is CLEARLY calculated and it reveals that the carefully fabricated patina of a "softer" Shrillary is belied by that Clintonista dirty tricks mode coming out. How cheesy is it to talk about an essay he wrote in kindergarten? Heck, if he could write an essay at age 5, maybe he deserves to be Prez!

Remember when she fired the career W.H. travel staff? Or her sailor-vile language and throwing lamps when angry at Slick Willie for letting Little Bill out to play with Monica? You can try to put lipstick on this vindictive pig, but Shrillary is one cold, MEAN, calculating witch under the patina... like Nixon, the meanness and disingenuous artfulness (see squirming over licenses for ILLEGALS) simply oozes up to be visible. And feigning moving to the center has not hidden the stench of a statist core waiting to try to impose the Big Brother (Sister) nanny state to assure the hegemony of the power elites who know what is best for you.

Its called connecting the dots.....Pt 2
BTW, what is the stupid war that I got us into, is it the war of words between you and me? If I remember correctly:
1-A President Clinton stated that the official US policy toward IRAQ was regime change.
2-A Senator Clinton, and her colleagues in the Senate authorized the President Bush to go war.
3-We would not have had to attack IRAQ if the United Nations, Germans, Russians, French, Chinese and others made Saddam live up to the cease fire agreement that he signed after the GULF WAR. All the while cheating the sanctions and robbing the IRAQ people out of there medicine and food that we humanitarianly offered for oil (AKA OIL for FOOD).

Liberals/Socialists/Communists have a terrible problem projecting their own character flaws on to their enemies. They are right Iraq is a War for Oil. If the United Nations, Germans, Russians, French, Chinese and others who stole the IRAQ OIL had nipped Hussein in the BUD, we would not have had to go to WAR.

Its called connecting the dots.....Pt 1
Robert writes:” to suggest something like that which you don’t have any evidence for..."

"Haven’t we had enough of people like you saying "You can’t prove what I am saying without any proof is wrong".

Actually Robert I am tired of people putting words into my mouth, and ignoring history.

Do you know that there is no evidence of Obama selling drugs?
I pointed out the Clintons have a large and active smear machine, and wouldn’t be surprised if they have a file on you and me both along with Obama.
I’m sure there were Clinton apologists who 10 years ago who suggested that it was wrong to accuse Billy Clint of having an affair with an intern when,
"to suggest something like that which you don’t have any evidence for... it forces (Clinton) to disprove a claim that you have made with no evidence to make the claim."

Just because we haven’t seen the "Blue" dress yet, it is my opinion that the Clinton smear machine is aware that there is one and they possess it. I don’t know that as a fact, but when someone uses drugs, it is very easy to imagine the scenarios that I stated above, and believe that it possible, if not probable, that he sold drugs. Just as it was possible, if not probable that Clinton DID have sexual relations with that woman Monica.

You are only half correct on this point.
"Hitting Obama for a kindergarten essay is pathetic; knocking him by suggesting he once might have dealt drugs is pathetic and slimy."

What I don’t get is how is it "slimy" to suggest that Obama "might" have sold drugs. I don’t have a dog in the fight, but as Obama already stated that he has used drugs, it is not that far of a logical leap to believe that he sold drugs. That could mean that someone used Obama to get them drugs, or Obama may have sold some of his own personal stash to a friend when they were in need. We all know that the Clinton slime machine is at work 24x7.
Then again,if elected Obama would be the third President in a row who is an admited drug user and the second cokehead. Hilliary knows that America has sympathy and forgiveness for admitted drug users, but there is little to no sympathy for drug sellers.
I believe the Hillary is screaming "smoke" because she is fanning the embers, and knows that it will become a full fledge inferno when the time is right.

Virtually nothing Hillary
or Bill says can be trusted.

He just announced he had never supported the Iraq War from the beginning, altho' there is tape and transcripts of his early endorsement.

No domestic politician or foreign representative could ever believe anything she says.

She's a proven liar, who as a lawyer and officer of the court hid IRS records in the White House safe and "lost" her Rose Law Firm records for years while under subpoena, and should be a confirmed crook.

But if the Dems. want to nominate her, more power to them. She'll be their cross to bear. Oops. A Biblical allusion.

Centrist?
Nicely written article, with one exception... where did you get the idea that Hillary is centrist? Center of what? The Communist Party?

Universal healthcare, $5000 to every new baby, Universal pre-K indoctrination...on and on. Even she says we can`t afford all her ideas.

She is a far left Socialist, vindictive, domineering, femi-Nazi, pandering witch...with a "B".
