Poll
Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Look. I understand the enormous outpouring of grief for Michael Jackson. Just as I understood the reaction to the death of Princess Di.

I lied. I don't understand either one.

In fact, I asked a group of people yesterday afternoon if they could explain to me the public's fascination with deeply flawed people who die prematurely. I got blank stares so, to lighten the mood, I said, "I have the 'deeply flawed' piece down cold, but I think I blew right past the 'premature dying' thing."

Hearty laughter all around. On second thought, it might have been nervous chuckles all around because everyone left right after that.

While every network except USA (which, in a delicious irony of counter-programming ran Law & Order: SVU episodes all day) covered the Michael Jackson memorial service, other things were going on in the world. One of the things going on was a luncheon at the offices of the Center for Strategic & International Studies featuring the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Michael Mullen.

Adm. Mullen had just returned from Russia where he had accompanied President Barack Obama on his summit in Russia for what was supposed to have been yet another outpouring of national gratitude like a nation full of 13-year-old-girls at a Beatles concert in 1964 for Barack Obama having deigned to spend time with them.

However, the New York Times of all journals, headed its coverage of the trip: "For Jaded Russians, Obama's Star Power Does Not Translate"

Reporters Clifford J. Levy And Ellen Barry, wrote:

Crowds did not clamor for a glimpse of him. Headlines offered only glancing or flippant notice of his activities. Television programming was uninterrupted [so] devotees of the Russian Judge Judy had nothing to fear. Even many students and alumni of the Western-oriented business school where Mr. Obama gave the graduation address on Tuesday seemed merely respectful, but hardly enthralled.

What? How great is this? My quandary of "where will I go when I leave the United States" is over. I can pack up all my cares and woes and move to Novocheboksarsk where men's eyes apparently don't roll back in their heads and women don't swoon at the mere mention of the name of Barack.

Whew. I can cross that off my to-do list for tomorrow.

It seems that the intergalactic love affair with Barack Obama may be cooling elsewhere, as well. A new poll by Quinnipiac University shows that Obama's approval rating has dropped from 62% in May to 49% in this poll.

Oh. This poll was taken in Ohio which, as you know, is the Novocheboksarsk of middle America.

On his handling of the economy, Obama's approval has dropped from 57 percent in May to only 46 percent now. That means that the "It's all Bush's fault" defense is losing credibility.

The most troubling numbers in this poll for Obama aren't how Republicans see Obama (19% approve, 75% disapprove) or how Democrats see Obama (85% approve, 11% disapprove).

The problem for Obama is those pesky independents among whom he trails in approval 38% approval to 48% disapproval.

As a reminder, as George W. Bush was leaving the White House in January the Washington Post/ABC News poll put his approval rating at 33%. In Ohio, among Independents, Obama is approaching Bush numbers.

Back to Admiral Mullen who really had important things to say about Iran. Not the least of which was his statement that his biggest worry is Iran getting a nuclear weapon which Mullen said "would lead to a de-stabilizing nuclear arms race in the region."

What can we do? He said that "all options are on the table." He paused, and then added, "including the military option."

A reporter from the Wall Street Journal picked up on that verbal underlining as I had and asked Admiral Mullen about it.

Mullen tried to blur the point, but he didn't back away from it. He said the time frame for Iran successfully developing a nuke was between one and three years. "The clock is ticking," he said. "The time window is closing."

Yikes!

I wonder how many Delta Frequent Flier miles it takes to get to Novocheboksarsk?

Thank you for clarifying
I think I get it now: you insist it CAN be done, but you have no plan as to HOW.

Are you a member of Congress, by any chance?

Reading 101 for Grumpy
Poor Grumpy, First he states that we cant put ground troops in Iran.

I say in my opinion we CAN put ground troops and take any ground we set our minds to. However I warn that once we take the ground what we do next would be key because we would get major pushback from the Iranians in an unconventional style to say the least.

I also point out that any plan would be joint in nature and use all 4 of our main services.

Grumpy takes me to task questioning the ability of the Navy forces and tells me to look at a map. I point out that Iran has two major coastlines. I never once propose using the Caspian Sea although it is there. Somehow grumpy reads that I have made such a proposal.

Then grumpy claims that you cant run ships through the strait of hormuz. I point out that we run ships through there all the time. I certainly proposed no plan to run an invasion fleet through there while we are under attack although i would point out that before we attack we could certainly preposition forces in the Gulf. I would not however put that forth as a PLAN just stating it could be done.

Grumpy seems to be stuck in old times. For Example he says "If you want to fight a ground war in Iran you first get a neighboring country to ally with you, then you start building rail lines."

Well I do agree that a neighbor to ally with is useful but "rail lines" Really?? Did we use Railroads in Kuwait or Iraq? What about Afghanistan? Did we have a lot of neighbors helping us stage forces before we took over Afghanistan?

lastly I offered no plans for an Invasion of Iran but somehow grumpy thinks I did. I merely stated we could which is totally different then saying HOW to do it and that we SHOULD do it.

Oh, for crying out loud
Okay, credit where credit is due: congratulations on abandoning your original plan to put supply ships in the Caspian Sea.

As for the rest...

Can our navy launch a missile attack from far, far away? Of course, but I refer you back to my original post: "Bomb it, sure, but boots on the ground? Look at a map... "

Yes, we can and do run ships through the Strait of Hormuz all the time. It helps that Iran is not firing on them as they go by, but I suspect that would change if we were at war. Your plan involves moving troop ships and supply ships through a known location less than 30 miles off the enemy coastline.

If you want to fight a ground war in Iran you first get a neighboring country to ally with you, then you start building rail lines.

I have tremendous respect for the men and women of all our Armed Forces (and I would like to thank you for your service), but I think your proposal is tactically unsound.

No problem
I am not concerned whatsoever if weirdos die young, so what? Obama's popularity is dropping like a rock in the new polls. Not news though, because the slobbering loving press doesn't report the truth about Obama, just about his "One"ness.

The Iranians want Nukes?
Let's give them one, right on their centrifuges!

premature death
I doubt that Jackson's death was premature. He chose a high risk self abusive and self indulgent lifestyle. I am surprised he lived as long as he did.

What ultimately happens to Iran...
...is of no concern at all to the terrorists, least of all the grand-daddy of ALL such groups... the Muslim Brotherhood. Sacrificing one or two countries to win a war falls right in with their way of thinking.

A nuked Iran would be the perfect excuse to start a worldwide jihad in earnest. Within hours of our bombs dropping, an estimated 500 million Muslims worldwide... nearly one-third the total population... would pledge themselves to jihad body and soul.

Are we at all ready to face that many
"hostile combatants?"

Grumpy history 101
Grumpy

first we used the Persian Gulf during the first gulf war and the recent Iraq conflict. We currently have navy vessels in the Persian Gulf. Getting in and out is something they do constantly. So yes, we can and DO move through all the time.

Here is a strategic hint for grumpy, Move your ships in like you do now without firing a shot, when they in place, launch your aircraft and missiles and support the Air Force long range bombers, and you have immediate air suppression crippling effect on the enemy Command and Control.

Just how close do you think our Navy has to be to play an important part in any operation?

poor Obama
Deprived of adulation Obama had to settle for substantive accomplishments instead.

You know when I saw the headline I thought Galen would be talking about the continued resistance to the stolen election. Instead he seems more interested in what the US can do to help the mullahs end the resistance to the stolen elections.

It is understandable that Republicans do not think in terms of how revolutions play out since their policies in office make it unlikely that any of them will pan out.

Fortunately with the adults in power now, the Iranian resistance movement has a fighting chance.

Thanks for the giggles
Tinsldr2, "Iran has huge coastlines on its northern borders with the Caspian Sea"

Glad you like joint operations, since the Air Force will have to be involved in parachuting supply ships and aircraft carriers into the world's largest lake...

Tinsldr2, "...more usefull is the huge coast along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman." Pffftt... Huge coast, narrow entrance: did your intensive study include the Strait of Hormuz? You really think you can move an invasion force through one the world's nastiest naval choke points?

This is why
the Pentagon WAS developing LOW-yield DEEP-penetrating nukes. Once the Mossad pinpointed the dozen or so locations of the most critical elements of the Iranian nuke program SUB-kiloton yield weapons could be dropped by stealth bombers.

Two planes would be more than enough to send their plans back to the drawing board. The moment such plans for these weapons were even floated the Left had a collective cow. NOW we may HAVE to lose a lot of lives where the equivalent of 3-500 tons of TNT, strategically place, would solve a lot of problems.

The "peace through weakness" lobby will NEVER learn.

Soli Deo Gloria!!!

Here's your laugh for the day!
WALK NAKED IN AMERICA DAY

Don't forget to mark your calendars. As you may already know, it is a sin for a Muslim male to see any woman other than his wife naked. He must commit suicide if he does. So next Saturday at 4 PM Eastern Time, all American women are asked to walk out of their house completely naked to help weed out any neighborhood terrorists. Circling your block for one hour is recommended for this anti-terrorist effort. All patriotic men are to position themselves in lawn chairs in front of their house to prove they are not Muslims and to demonstrate they think its okay to see nude women other than their wife and to show support for all American women. Since Islam also does not approve of alcohol, a cold 6-pack at your side is further proof of your anti-Muslim sentiment. The American government appreciates your efforts to root out terrorists and applauds your participation in this anti-terrorist activity.

God bless America !

It is your patriotic duty to pass this on. If you don't send this to at least 5 people, you're a terrorist-sympathizing, lily-livered coward and are in the position of posing as a national threat.

Geography 101 for Grumpy
I have studied maps of the mid-east intesively. Iran has huge coastlines on its northern borders with the Caspian Sea but more usefull is the huge coast along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. In fact it has a much larger coast then Iraq.

The navy support comes in the form of ships moving supplies (for Iraq we built up supply lines mostly in Kuwait) and offensive attacks from Naval Aircraft, and missiles. naval attacks were devestating in the invasion of Iraq and Navy seaman continue to serve inside Iraq. Examples are Navy Explosive Ordinance personnel and Seabee's. (or they were in 2008 when I left). Not to mention the legendary Navy Seals (remember Lieutenant Michael Murphy the Seal that got the Medal of Honor in Afghanistan).

The Navy capabilities are not the Navy of Admiral McCain where destroyers fired large cannons, then drifted back into the ocean while Marines hit the beach.

Now come November I am no fan of the Navy and proudly chant GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY! but as much as I hate to admit it, they do play a valuable role in all our military operations. We call it Joint Operations.

Invading Iran
The_Shaddow: You might want to talk to some Iraqis about (A) how much fun they had trying it, and (B) if they'll politely allow us to mass our troops and supplies in their country.

Tinsldr2: You're more sensible, but still mistaken. "Naval Support"? As I said before, look at a map...

Depends on the goal
Depends on the goal as to whether an Iranian military action would be successful.

The US military can take and occupy ground anywhere in the world we are directed to. Overwhelming air superiority over any enemy, Superbly trained, equiped and led ground forces and Naval Support that nobody can challenge. Holding that ground we take can be a bloody affair but it can be done.

If the mission is to take out Iranian Command and control facilities and Nuclear Sites we can do it and they can't stop us. Taking out their C+C centers and Nuke Facilities will ONLY DELAY their aquiring Nukes however.

If the mission is Regime Change the way it was in Iraq then we have a whole different ball game and the mission is incredibly more challenging.

having said that, the US better be ready for an unconventional fight if we take out their facilities. We are already in a low level war with these nut jobs and an overt attack on Iran will seriously escalate the mess. More attacks by nut jobs in America and attacks worldwide for starters. Iran has resources that Al-Q does not and would escalate the use of those assets against us.

On the other hand allowing them to get Nukes is unacceptable and talking with them won't work.

Just my opinion.

A McLaughlin Group parody: Moderator--*Head Mullah, when will the healing start?*

MH--*The healing will start when the protestors leave the streets to the people, when the legal president is installed, and when all demonstrators have been beheaded.*

Iran is planning a nation-wide strike. Soon, we will hear of those leaders being beheaded. Pray for their revolution.

Here, tea parties are meeting at local representatives' and sens.' offices on July 17th. I'm going to John Adler's office in NJ.

I went to his *health seminar* last Tues. and confronted a gang of AARP clones ranting about *free* medical care and how their lives will be improved.

When I asked why we couldn't just pay the $1658 paid by hospitals annually to the uninsured who use ER care or how the feds. planned to pay for the King Elect O's plan, I got lots of smiles and thanks and then let's hear the next comment.

We are being run by idiots and Chicago thugs.

O is really stupid, and we are the laughing stock of the world, something that never happened under Bush, or even Clinton.

Speaking of Polls
I see where the Rasmussen daily tracking index of those who strongly approve vs. strongly disapprove of Obama’s job performance is now at -5.

I suspect that between his serious stumbling on the economy, his tacit approval of the elections in Iran, his giveaways to Russia in disarmament and missile defense coupled with his complete misread on Honduras, that index may not see a positive again.

Obama's nonsense deal on nukes
Russian tactical nuclear weapons number in the thousands and no reductions are planned. The Russians are making NEW nuclear warheads and these are not included in the 'reductions'.

Obama got face time but only he cared. Putin knows what Obama is made of. Putin has to believe Obama is 'pliable'.

Stop Iranian nukes!
No one wants to invade Iran. The goal is an end to the Iranian nuclear weapons program. No Iranian nukes!

I couldn't even watch ESPN without
coverage of MJ!!! Heeeeelllllpppppp!

Rich, you're kidding that other things were happening, right? I thought that the whole world had stopped to say goodbye to the accused pedophile.

It must have been made to order for the One, to keep our eyes off of the surrender he so masterfully accomplished in Russia. The slight of hand was as brilliant as sending a missile or 2 to take out an aspirin factory. Can we be sure that the One did not kill MJ just for the diversion?

Yes we can...
invade Iran! Yes we can!

With the troops currently in Iraq, we are halfway there, simply go east and acpture Tehran.

How many do not realize
How many do not realize that we can't invade Iran? Bomb it, sure, but boots on the ground? Look at a map...
